and starting to see all the mistakes

prongswhatthefuck2  asked:

What are some good tips for getting started with writing a book? I have a concept but i can't put it into place.

Getting Started with Your Story

There’s no one way to start writing a book. For some people, it’s enough to just jump in and start writing to see where the story takes them. If you’re not too keen on that idea, then here is one process (as in, not the only process) that might help you move beyond your concept.

  • Concept ≠ Plot

Many writers mistake concept for plot, but they’re actually two very different things. A world where everyone grows up with superpowers is a concept; the plot is what you decide to write about within that concept - the specific characters and what happens to those characters; who your antagonist is and what conflict arises when that antagonist goes after what they want. All of these things contribute to your plot.

So first, define what it is you actually have at this particular point. Do you just have a concept? If so, you’ll need to take the necessary steps to develop that concept into a plot.

  • Concept >>> Plot

If you’ve decided that all you really have is a concept, then how do you take it and turn it into a plot? You brainstorm. All brainstorming really amounts to is expanding your ideas. All you’re doing is asking questions about the concept and delving deep into the answers.

The most simplistic way to start this process, especially if you’re struggling, is to ask one of two questions (or both, if applicable). These two questions: What could go wrong? What could go right?

Going back to my example about a world where everyone grows up with superpowers. If I were to ask the question “what could go wrong,” I’d end up with a whole list of possibilities.

  • The powers suddenly disappear
  • People start abusing their powers
  • Someone figures out how to steal powers
  • A hierarchy of strong vs. weak powers develops, creating superiority/inferiority dynamics
  • Someone is born without a superpower

There are many more possibilities I didn’t even think of here, but any one (or more) of these could become a plot. Choose one that sounds interesting, and then ask yourself “and then what?”

Say I choose: Someone figures out how to steal powers. Then what does that person do? Do they recruit people to do the dirty work for them? Do they work alone? Do they hoard these powers and barter them for other goods? Do they attempt to enslave people? Do they attempt to take control of institutions? What do they do?

Your goal is to take your ideas and turn them into actions taken by characters. People doing things. And each piece you add will usually lead into another. If you went with the idea that this character is stealing powers and essentially selling them for other goods, you’d have to ask yourself follow-up questions. First, who are they selling to? Why would anyone buy a new superpower if they already have one? What uses would they have for additional ones? What is the key demographic that this person is trying to reach? Secondly, what are they selling them in exchange for? Money? Favors? Souls? What is this character getting in return?

Now that you’ve examined potential actions that the character takes, you’ve also exposed potential new characters.

  • People they’re stealing from
  • People they’re bargaining with
  • People that try to police these crimes
  • People that try to copy this character’s process

At the beginning of this section, I talked about using “what could go right” as another optional jumping off point. This is a good path to follow if your concept is already really negative. For a concept where someone is killing people for some pointed reason, you might ask “what could go right” and explore ideas where the killer is caught and brought to justice.

The point of all this is to think about change as a means of taking your idea from concept to plot. A concept is static - it doesn’t move, evolve, or change. By developing a plot, you’re forcing the concept to be challenged in some way. If you think about it that way, you’ll be able to formulate conflicts, and the people that orchestrate and fight against those conflicts.

On that note, I think we’re ready to move onto the third piece of my graphic above.

  • Plot = Character Actions and Consequences

At this point, you have sketches for characters. You’ve got this nameless, faceless person that is stealing the powers, and all these other nameless, faceless people that I listed above. In essence, we have character concepts. And just like we turned our initial concept into a plot, we have to turn these character concepts into actual characters.

The basics are the easiest way to start. You figure out their name, their gender identity, their age, their appearance, some brief backstory and personality traits. I personally prefer the simplest questionnaire that I put together back in the early days because it hits on the poignant pieces of a character without overwhelming you with 100s of questions.

Now that you’ve given your character concepts names and faces and potential behaviors, you start to consider how one character’s view of the world inspires them to take certain actions, and you then think about how those actions affect your entire story.

We already kind of talked about the motives of the power thief in our example, but definitely delve deep here. On the surface, this character seems bad - stealing from people and then selling what they steal. But depending on what it is they’re getting in return, could we not argue that this character is a supernatural Robin Hood? Maybe instead of selling, they’re giving, and maybe the characters they’re stealing powers from are people that abuse and misuse their powers. Character motives can take a plot and turn it on its head, forcing you to reconceptualize everything. And that’s okay! That’s part of the process.

But separate from that idea, if we have a character concept of someone whose powers were stolen, and after developing their basic backstory, we discover that person’s name is Rose, and she has an especially close relationship with her brother. So when her powers are stolen, how does this affect her life? Was she using her powers to keep her brother alive and protected? What she using them to keep a roof over their heads? Was she using them as part of her job, as a means of providing? What happens to her life when her powers are stolen? And what will Rose do about it? Whatever Rose does will impact the story. If she does nothing to get her powers back, how does she solve her problems and does that make for a good story? If she does decide to act, then you’ve moved onto a new plot point to dive deeper into.

My point is, character concepts come from plots, but characters themselves often create plot, as their decisions and mistakes and successes create new outcomes. So if I could modify my original flow chart:

Before you develop something, you conceptualize it. You have a concept, then you make it a plot. You have concepts for characters, then you make them characters. And those characters end up driving your plot, to the point that this happens:

Plot inspires character. Character inspires plot. And it just keeps going around and around and around. Breaking it down into these pieces helps organize the process, but developing a story is rarely this neat and tidy. You’ll get ideas that don’t make sense, ideas that aren’t cohesive, characters you don’t need, characters that piss you off, problems you can’t solve, or plot points you’ve committed to that you no longer like…it will be messy. But it’s your mess, and the more you work on developing your own process, the more it’ll make sense to you. And it’ll become easier to know how to go about fixing it when something’s not right.

Have fun with this process! It’s supposed to be fun. When the pieces start to become clearer, you’re able to put them together in a rough outline. And once you have a rough outline, you can start writing, and really see it take shape.

Writing, Neil Gaiman, and Kon Satoshi

I almost gave up writing altogether after reading Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.

I didn’t read it as it was coming out in comics, but later, when it was published in collected volumes.

It was too perfect. Too complete. It seemed like it had sprung fully-formed from Gaiman’s head, and he had to spend years waiting for artists to catch up.

It was overwhelming. Unattainable.

I wasn’t reading the book’s post-scripts, though, because I wanted to avoid potential spoilers. I wanted to experience the material, not the author dissecting it.

I did read them on a second pass. There’s a story on Dream Country, the third volume, about a writer keeping a muse captive so she can give him ideas. It’s a piece with characters that tie into Morpheus’ past and who will come up again, woven into the larger narrative. The book also contains a post-script on how the story came about, where Gaiman states it was at first about a succubus, before moving on to talk about his process for working with the artist.

My eyes kept moving forward, brain storing words from the original script, but my consciousness had taken a step back.

Wait, back up, what was that character again?
Who?
Calliope.
Originally a succubus, replies brain, let me keep going here.

Yes, stupid me. I had assumed Sandman had been gestating inside Gaiman from the start, waiting for an opportunity for the entire story to burst out. He didn’t transcribe a long epic he had already come up with. He wasn’t born with the tale. He worked at it for years, sometimes throwing away material and replacing it with things that fit better. Like a normal human being.

I keep making the same mistake. I wrote about a similar mental bug when talking about Kon Satoshi and Dream Fossil.

We only see the finished product. We don’t see the author sitting down at the typewriter and bleeding.

It’s all work. Some people have more potential and have it easier, others have to work harder at it, but in the end it’s only work. If you want a chance to get better at it, you should treat it as such.

Can I just say I have a lot of opinions about JJ, especially from a Westerner’s point of view? Specifically, the way he’s treated by the other skaters in YOI? JJ is loud, boisterous, and toots his own horn at every chance. Does this make him a bad guy? No way. In fact, all it does is paint a picture of how the rest of the world views people from America. Now, I’m from the US, so I can’t really speak for Canada, but I have quite a few Canadian friends and we are all, by definition, “North Americans”. I notice that our cultures aren’t really that different- specifically our social culture. Most Western young men act A LOT like JJ does- making jokes at other peoples’ expenses, trying to one-up everyone around them, be it verbally or otherwise, being really competitive and thriving in a competitive atmosphere, and generally just being very loud and obnoxious.

  • Snape keeping you after class because you were one of his best students until you started seeing Fred and he’s “disappointed”. Fred kisses you as soon as you leave the class, which gets a very disapproving cough from Snape.
  • Fred meeting you outside each and every class, often surprising you by grabbing you and pushing you against the wall to kiss you.

  • Both of the twins are incredibly protective over you.
  • If you play Quidditch, you’re a Chaser. If you’re on their team, Fred and George fiercely protect you, but if you’re on the other team (maybe you’re a beater), it’s war. “Whoops sorry Honey didn’t see you there.” As a bludger goes sailing past your ear.
  • Joking and confusing people who don’t understand your relationship; Are you dating? Enemies? Friends?
  • Fred getting jealous at little things when he’s in a mood. You have to hold him back from getting in fights.
  • Fred asking you to marry him a week before Bill and Fleur’s wedding. The two of you try and keep it secret until after their wedding so as not to not steal their thunder but Molly finds out and is so happy for the two of you. (George already knows)
  • Dancing at their wedding until your feet ache and your cheeks ache from smiling so much.
  • After a few drinks Fred lets it slip to Ron that the two of you are engaged. Ron loudly exclaims “What!?”.
  • Fred loses you in the crowd and drunkenly screams “Where is my wife?!” Then everyone knows.
  • You and Fred end up getting married and Fred is just so happy he can’t stop smiling and he is running around excitedly telling everyone he’s going to spend the rest of his life with you.

MASTERLIST

Aliens huh?

I’m the verge of being awake for nearly 20 hours and I had a thought since I’ve been reading those awesome aliens and human interaction stories. Apologies if I ramble.

What if

Aliens in general, they evolved as their cultures grew with or without technology far more advanced than ours could ever be, they have amazing feats in engineering and maybe they had no wars or they are the most violent beings in the world, but I suggest to you

What if they could draw, but they would stick to this specific style, like for example, we humans would exclusively only draw in the ancient Egyptian style and literally NOTHING else? That’s just the way it was for them for their entire species existence? Diversity in art wasn’t a thing since what they were drawing wasn’t advancing since it didn’t need to for them and never had a thought to change it up.

So when Humans eventually get their little creative butts off our small planetoid of a space pebble and begin to mingle with all these fascinating aliens and celestial beings, some artsy people begin to board on all these fleets and space ships and tankers and take their sketch books and pencils and whatnot with them because hey, a long space boat ride some wheres gonna be boring sooner or later so might as well get that cool idea i have out on paper before i loose my urge to do it! Then a few passing by alien folks of different origins spot this little human doodling away and are intrigued at the fact that they can draw too, let’s see what they do for art. Maybe its similar to Xe’s or Xer’s planets artisans.

Then they get friendly with the arty human and after these alien folk show some of their home worlds artistic feats, they slowly get the shy human to show more of their work they have stashed away for references and such (because how many of you art folks show most if any of your book to people without getting friendly enough with them, I’ll rip someones arm off before they even touch my books gawd XD) And as they see all the art the human has, they’re stunned to the core with how they can do so many different types of art! Its like this human managed to replicate another planets cultural abilities without hesitation!

Naturally there curious and how this small being from such a lower technological class can do so much? Did the human get these difference pieces from their other human sub classes that specialize in this preferred style?

And the little human just blushes shyly and says, “No no no, I’ve just been experimenting with some realism lately, this is better now since i started to lay off with the anime works and looked more into stippling, impressionism, some animation on the side, and don’t get me started with exaggerated proportions! It’s so fun-”

“Wait, human Fran, you…. you did all these with your own hand? And how in the galaxies did you make the pictures move???”

“Well, yes, how else would you learn and build up your own way of drawing things? I draw usually what fits my mood and have fun experimenting”

Next thing you see in years to come is a artistic explosion from sooooooo many planets as all these single styled alien cultures go through renaissances and eureka moments with their art.

Then the alien anime becomes the biggest mistake in the galaxies

Not sure if you had this come your way or not @space-australians but how would this play out in your head if the scenario happened? :3

I happily blame you and your blog for even generating this idea in my head, love all the space stuff you reblog for everyone to read and imagine~!

A cry for help: The Arch of Steven’s Mental Health.

Brace people, this is kind of dark. Honestly, the only wild ride I’ve been seeing in SU is Steven’s deteriorating mental health and self perception. He’s only 14, he’s been asked to be way too mature for his age, and some insane expectations are placed upon him- most likely accidentally- by his elders. That he’s in some way the person fated to continue his mother’s work (even if no one has told him what it was, exactly), that he is his mother, and therefore he’s to blame for all the shit she did, and no one has told him otherwise (i mean, Bismuth did, but we all know what happened there). Of course Steven’s not to blame on this. As much as I love Greg and the Gems, a lot of Steven’s current mental caos is on them too. They did the best they could with what they had, but when raising a kid and dealing with a teen, that’s often not enough.

So, we can examine Steven’s character AS IT IS NOW, with some specific factors:

  • Teenagerhood: We’ve all been- some of you are- there. Steven is 14, as I said, those years are chaotic, confusing and weird, you’re figuring yourself and your identity, slowly coming to terms with the changes in your life and body and starting to discover what you want of life. And that’s without being your own mother and having the impending end of the world on your shoulders, just imagine what teenager years will do to someone as kind and traumatized as Steve(v.Book 7 Harry). Of course he’s bottling everything up and not trusting anyone, he’s in a confusing period while the world is demanding him to keep a straight face and a clear mind, of course he developed unhealthy coping mechanis, which brings me to:

  •  Missplaced guilt and Individuality: The big, mayor issue I see here is Steven subconsciously crying for help in the form of “this mess is all my (my mother’s) fault, it’s my sole responsability to fix it haha”, and NO ONE is fucking correcting him. Steven developed this fixation with self sacrificing because he lost himself at some poin. Not hard to do being a teen with horrible expectations hanging over you, but somewhere along the road, Steven kind of gave up trying to assert his own identity actively and settled for being a less messy extention of his mother. He seems to have embraced the whole “i’m my mom” narrative, and thinks the only way to repair his mom’s awful mistakes (hang on with that one) is to offer himself as a scape goat for all the pain she has caused. That way, he kills two birds with a stone: Offers reparations and saves the earth, AND puts and end to Roses’ existence and shenanigans.
The Steven we’ve been seeing lately is packed with self blaming and self loathing, between thinking of himself as a less-than version of his mother, and the heir to all of her consequences. He knows he isn’t like her in the good ways, but he’s started to think he is like her in all the bad ones.

  • Distorted Perception: Steven’s judgement is clouded. He’s his own unreliable narrator. He’s not being able to process things objectively (or as close as one can get to actual objectivity), and I think the gems really should step in here. He keeps getting bits of the story, and Steven’s already traumatized mind can will fill those gaps with worse-case scnearios. He’s an optimistic at heart, but he has seen too much dark shit already, and too many of his childhood perceptions of the world have been shattered (Monsters are really gems; gems can get corrupted; his Mom started a war; his Mom hurt other gems in said war; Betrayed her friends; allegedly killed a living being; etc.) for him to even know what to think anymore.

He can’t stand the fact that his mother betrayed Bismuth and “killed” Pink Diamond, he can’t even process new information because of the disgust he’s feeling for his mother’s actions. In the trial, he was provided with evidence that Rose in fact didn’t shatter Pink Diamond, and it went ollimpically over his head. He’s confusing facts and time periods (Rose never used The Breaking Point) without stopping o rethink it, he’s fixated in the version of the story he put together and again, no one is fucking challenging that view.

  • His family: Steven’s journey with Identity and self assertion is coming to a halt, he’s forgotten th fact that he is loved, wanted, and worthy. Beyond Rose Quartz, the gems, or his powers. Steven, along the way, has forgotten that he is an individual and not an exchange coin, even though he knows deep down that his family loves him, he’s keeping these feelings to himself because he doesn’t feel like he deserves any of it. And that’s truly heartbreaking. I’m surprised at how absent they’ve been of Steven’s emotional world lately, but more than that, I think they have to let go of Rose Quartz, and breack the vow of secrecy. They are painful memories, I get it, but their kid is tearing himself appart here. I think is long overdue that this family just sit down, and has a serious conversation.

So pease somebody sit him down, make him spill the beans, and fucking hug him because he needs to get out his head, and can’t do it alone.

When Jack picks up the phone, his first thought is that something has gone very, very wrong. Bitty is crying, nearly sobbing, to the point that his words aren’t coming through clearly. He takes a shuddering breath in and only manages a feeble “J-jack” before breaking down again. Jack doesn’t know what happened but he is so certain that he has to fix it.

“What is it?” Jack asks, picking up his car keys without even thinking. “What happened?”

“I-I-I-” Bitty tries. He stops, takes a deep breath. “I’m the captain!”  He dissolves again into a sort of chuckle sob, half laughter, half crying. “Th-they all voted for me.”

Jack feels so many emotions at once all he can do is sit down. “Bitty- Bits. That’s amazing!”

It’s amazing, but it’s not surprising. He always knew Bitty would make a captain. Bitty was the glue that held the team together, anyone could see that. He’d improved so much since he started, and he worked hard to get to where he is. No one else got up at four in the morning to fix their mistakes. No one sacrificed their free weekends wrangling up the frogs while cooking brunch for twenty.

He wants to tell Bitty all of this, but when he tries to talk his throat constricts, and his eyes blur, and what comes out is more of an undignified squeak. He clears his throat, blinks the tears away, and leans back into the couch, smiling harder than he has in a long time. “I’m so proud of you, Bits.”

“Thanks, Jack,” Bitty says, calmer now. “I’m proud of me, too.”

Just some fic recs...

I’ve read a lot of really good fic this year and I just thought the best of the best deserved some recognition.  I tried to weed out the super popular fics, but some still show up because I love them that much.  Also, the ships are numerous and varied.

Running on Air–eleventy7; Drarry
Draco Malfoy has been missing for three years. Harry is assigned the cold case and finds himself slowly falling in love with the memories he collects.
*I would murder people to protect this fic.  It’s beautifully written, well-plotted, original, and it reuses certain sentences, making them more poignant the later in the story they’re used.  Like, fuck me up*

the ghost of you–kissmesexybatman; Klance
When Keith goes missing without a trace, all his family and friends are able to do is move on with their lives. When he shows back up after a year, they have to convince him they still want him back.
*I may be slightly biased because the coolest person in the world wrote this, but let me tell you, it’s emotionally heartwrenching, wonderfully written, and gives you a happy ending without sacrificing the needs of the characters*

My soul is an empty carousel at sunset.–dawnstruck; Otayuri
Yuri grows up and grows older and grows into himself. Otabek helps. It just takes a while to get there.
*I’m demi and this fic described exactly what that experience has been like for me, as it features a demi!Yuri.  Beyond that, it was sweet and genuine and I adored it*

question: how does Dean cycle through like 20 expressions in the space of a second and a half. explain.

That man’s face is a treasure; so many expressions so little time. It’s a lot to do with the vast well of emotions he’s always sitting on and also his sensual (tactile is the word I use when I tag it but sensual is what I really mean) because not only does he use his hands to express himself, he uses his face too–his eyes his lips, the eyebrows. Look at his shoulders in that one too. He just uses his entire body to talk. One of my favorite scenes is from The French Mistake because he does this in the span of a few seconds:

He just has so much in him all the time and it just all comes out in some form of facial expression and I love it. This scene too in 5.01 when he’s so shocked to be on the plane:

Or here, in when his entire face tells a story from start to finish:

Or those times you can literally see him thinking something through:

He wears his emotions right there on his face and that’s why it’s impossible not to know what he’s really feeling even when he doesn’t want to talk about it.

Day One Hundred and Thirty-Four

-While clocking in, I heard my coworker mention “busting a move in the bathroom.” My legal team has advised me to disclose that this is an entirely unrelated fact, but I have finally found the title for my upcoming debut ska EP.

-A child was rolled away after his mother’s purchase, and not a moment too soon. The forty-something woman behind them had some constructive-adjacent criticism for him and began to aggressively mock his inability to tell apart characters from Thomas the Tank Engine. I aspire to be like this woman, such a strong authority on a subject as to shamelessly school a toddler for such an elementary mistake.

-Today, I am confronting an entity I despise nearly as fervently as the Minions. At the start of my shift, I found myself stationed next to a Boss Baby display of unsettling proportions. I came to terms with this at 11:33, a fact I took note of, as I began a timer to see how long I could go before punting the arrogant entrepreneur all the way to electronics.

-A full roll of stickers was delivered to my lane. I am glad my brand is known enough that my coworkers know what to do when faced with fresh stickers. However, not to look a gift-manager in the mouth, I do wish I had options other than Christmas designs in July.

-A sweet grandmother was very excited about her purchase: a cozy onesie of a bear for her grandson. She raved about how cute it was, and how it even had a small top hat. I am very pleased for her, but I am unsure whether or not it is my place to break the news that she is dressing the boy up as a grizzly demonic animatronic from a franchise decidedly not meant to be marketed this heavily to grade-schoolers.

-It is no secret that I take great joy in riding our motorized shopping carts. Today I have been blessed with enough opportunity to hone my craft into a true art. I organized the cart return area without once dismounting my trusty steed and even took to the untamed wilderness of the parking lot to retrieve an abandoned one. All of the smooth maneuvers I have nailed today are proof that I would make a perfect getaway driver, and I am just one killer track away from being the Baby of shopping center heists.

Jin ➳ He usually felt pain when people insulted him, only shrinking as he tried to hide away but when your grip tightened onto his hands as you soon began to charge towards the insulters; he was rendered speechless. “It’s better to let someone think you’re stupid than to open your mouth and prove it.” You sneered, standing before the two men and although you looked like a smol hamster compared to them — the fire blazing around your build had them apologizing immediately. You were seething, but Hoseok only smiled while ignoring them, and you knew it pierced his heart whenever the smile would grow smaller and smaller.

Suddenly, you turned around and walked towards the men who began to whistle in happiness, only to be shut down immediately. “If you really want to know about mistakes,” you growled as they all became quiet, “then you should ask your parents.” Hoseok would be laughing so hard, dancing and asking them if they wanted some ice for that burn as you tried to drag him away.

RapMonster ➳ You were all eating dinner with the boys when they all started to make fun of Namjoon, having nothing else to speak about and only finding amusement in ruining his pride in front of his girlfriend. He only smiled softly, not wanting the one he loves to see him in a different light as Jimin would squeak and giggle in various ways with the younger ones while they roasted their leader. The way you were gripping your fork went unnoticed, soon clearing your throat as you gained everyone’s attention once the waiter had placed the food down.

“Oh hey,” you smiled, looking to the green peas, “Maknae line, it’s your balls.” Namjoon would scream ‘oooh’ in the background, finding what you did in his defense the cutest thing ever.

Jimin ➳ Jimin was suddenly pushed into you, and he would laugh nervously as he gave you a skeptical smile. “It’s fine.” He murmured, trying to push you along to keep you protected and from harm’s way but you wouldn’t have it in the least. The boys were laughing, calling Jimin various of names before they began to inch closer to the two of you once again and you were too quick for Jimin to react, suddenly pushing him to the side as you instantly karate kicked one of the men in the balls.

“That was just the appetizer,” you began to rub your hands and Jimin could only stare to you in aloofness; wondering if the one he loved oh so much was suddenly in the arms of a demon, “who wants the main course?”

V ➳ If anything, one thing he knew you hated was seeing him be awkwardly quiet. You two have been playing at the arcade for a while, and although you both started off having a blast; Taehyung was slowly sinking into his emotions as he looked down. You were confused at first, until you saw a group of men laugh out loud as they were roasting him from afar.

It was abrupt, but once you left the man with an assuring squeeze on his hand, you sped walked towards the group with a cup of dippin dots in your hand. “I just wanted to return your balls.” You told what you assumed was the leader, dropping the ice cream as it fell all over his lap; his supposed friends began to giggle and Taehyung was suddenly struck with pride at seeing his own girlfriend defend him.

Jungkook ➳ You two were walking down the park, his fingers interlaced with yours as he swung it side to side with a smile playing against his lips. He already heard those guys talking crap about him, saying various mean things that stuck his heart but he only wanted to have a great time with his precious girlfriend — so, he pushed his feelings to the side. What he didn’t expect, though, was you abruptly letting go of his hand so you can stalk your way to the men and bring out a very colorful vocabulary he didn’t even know existed within you.

He was shooketh, his eyes wide as you got the men to frighteningly apologize to him. “No one messes with my man.” You murmured, and Jungkook was still in shock. Although it was hot in his eyes, if anything, he should be protecting you.

I’m just trying to recall the last time we actually saw Dean do anything sexual with anyone. Because in 12.11, we know he had the hots for Larry, and after going for his ride he “blew off steam” with the waitress. But what does that mean? And the fact that he was supposed to meet her after her shift but never showed… for what? Round two? To finish what they started? It is a mystery. I mean, she didn’t seem all that invested, just pissed that he blew her off when she finally did see him again.

And ALL of that technically happened BEFORE HE WAS HEXED!

So, sound mind, consenting adults, and all that. And when she realized that he couldn’t remember because he’d been “roofied,” she was immediately concerned that she may have taken advantage of him and apologized.

I mean, that’s fantastic.

When the heck has Dean ever gotten an apology like that?

This is pretty far removed from “mistakes were made.”

Before this, he had some sort of success in 11.13 before then striking out later in the episode.

And before that was 11.04, where those mistakes were made, whatever that means.

But even with his memories removed and therefore no burden of guilt, we didn’t actually see him hit on anyone the entire episode. He was polite and smiley with people, complimenting Rowena’s hair for being “bouncy” oh my god. Being friendly with the waitress, even smiling at Sam when he had no freaking clue who HE was, let alone who Sam was. Dean’s default without his memories seems to be cheerfully pleasant with a zest for life (and waffles) (and Larry).

So, not a womanizing jerk dudebro.

He thought his own damn life hunting monsters with their angel best friend sounded awesome. He noticed people, but he didn’t have that performing persona. And he unashamedly admitted to loving A DISNEY CARTOON FISH. I mean…

This was all just so refreshing in a really twisted and terrifying sort of way…

Derek x Reader

Requested By @dontyouwishyouhadlove

You smiled at the little gift Derek had sent, it was a picture of the two of you, a few Hale siblings and cousins were squished in as well, you could never remember all their names. It was just like Derek to add to your hoard of photos, in fact you wondered if he sent you the pictures so they’d survive, he was forever bending or accidentally washing photos and bits of paper so it wouldn’t surprise you.

When you pulled up in the drive your front door swung open and your brother launched himself down the porch so he could yank open the door.

“I’ve missed you so much!” Scott sighed and you chuckled as you ruffled his hair.

“You saw me at gradation.” You chuckled and he rolled his eyes.

“Yeah and then we’ve had to wait for months so you could finish up there and come back home.” You groaned as he yanked you out of the car and into the house.

Kaneki and Toukas child will live

(DISCLAIMER: This is my own opinion regarding the survivability of Kaneki and Toukas child. There’s no actual proof that anything i’m saying is in fact true, and there’s a possibility Ishida might just punch me in the gut and prove me wrong.)

Following the release of the latest chapter of Tokyo Ghoul:re, chapter 129, we receive confirmation that Touka is indeed pregnant, and with Kaneki as the father, the child is either a half-ghoul or half-human (im working on a meta on the genetic implications which ill post later on). While everyone has been theorizing about the possibility of a pregnancy since Ishida’s drawing of Touka with a bloody belly and the burnt-womb poem; having finally received its validation, the fandom seems sure of one thing: the baby will die. Whether it will be through a natural miscarriage or during some kind of combat, the baby will certainly die. And with reason, after all, its our first time experiencing a ghoul pregnancy,of a hybrid nonetheless, and considering what we know (the ghoul mother absorbs the child, the child dies of malnutrition, etc), there’s no hope for the baby. And yet, here I am,saying that I believe the child will live. Why? Well for various reasons:

xaldinlance  asked:

Are you fucking insane?! Ladynoir

This one gets a LITTLE sinn-ish… nothing serious or explicit but I figure I will still put some of it under a cut ^_~

“Give me one good reason why we shouldn’t,” Chat said crossing his arms and leveling her with his most determined stare.

“Oh, I don’t know, how about because I don’t even know your actual name?”

“So we tell each other, it’s been long enough.”

“Are you fucking insane?” Ladybug hissed. “We can’t just-”

“Can’t just what?” Chat interrupted, “can’t just be honest with each other? It’s been three years Ladybug, and I for one am tired of putting my life on hold for some maniac and his color changing butterflies.”

“But the risks,” she tried weakly, even as her blood began to race when her partner stalked towards her.

“The risks will always be there. Why can’t we face them together?” he said softly, his hands reaching out to gently stroke up and down her arms.

“We already do,” Ladybug said stubbornly, “we have a great partnership just the way we are, why should be change that now?”

She knew why, of course she knew. It was her own fault after all. She had been the one to start this whole mess in the first place.

He leaned forward, ducking his head so that their eyes were level. She could see the conflicted feelings dancing in his eyes- frustration, hope, amusement, and pure unadulterated want.

She swallowed heavily.

“I am a pretty patient cat,” he said with a slight smirk, “but there are only so many times we can make out in back alleys and on darkened rooftops before we have to admit that this isn’t some mistake.”

Black Paladin lance headcanon...au?

I have seen a lot of black Paladin lance head canons and idea of how it will work, so I thought maybe I’d share my own ideas.

To start of, Shiro is in the Astral plane with Black looking over him, and Shiro isn’t really sure how to get out, and Black won’t tell him how to get out, only that he needs to rest, and he can’t talk with the other Paladins to tell him where he is. But he can see and can hear them through Black.

Shiro sees everyone trying to figure out what happened to him, but after weeks of them fleeing battles with the Galra and trying to find Shiro, they all agree that until they find Shiro, they need to have someone be the black paladin. Keith of course reveals the fact that Shiro wanted him to lead, and approaches Black. Shiro is obviously very supportive of this (cough cough-bias-cough) but Shiro is surprised to see that Black is apprehensive about Keith piloting him. but Black allows it since it is Shiro’s wish for Keith to lead.

So Keith is the black Paladin, and Shiro is very happy to see that Keith is leading the team. Only that, he isn’t leading very well. Many times he runs off on his own in battle and leaves the others with half baked directions and no real orders or a half baked plan that he usually abandons to go off. Shiro sees that more times than not, one of the Paladins is always heavily damaged and spend days in the healing pods. Now Shiro is starting to see that he might have overestimated Keith’s ability to lead, but he still trusts that Keith will get the hang of it. But as time goes on, Keith still is doing his own thing. That’s when Shiro notices that Lance, who is always questioning Keith’s decisions, has been giving orders whenever Keith runs off , and his plans have some real form of orders, and not just that, but they work with the skills of Pidge and Hunk, even Allura when she joins in the fight. It’s his plans that gets everyone out of a battle in one piece, it’s his plans that even wins some of the battles. But it’s not until Shiro sees Lance going to the hangars to talk to Blue about how mad he is at Keith, not because of him being the leader, but at how he leads the team. He tells her about all the times Keith has left during battles to ‘follow his instincts’ and leaving the team with no clear idea of what the plan is or what to do. He’s mad that even though it’s clear that Lance has been the reason that they win a battle, he doesn’t get any recognition for his plans, that Allura and the others just assume that Lance knows Keith’s plan when Keith goes AWOL, they assume that it’s Keith plan and not his own. But most of all, Lance talks about his insecurities about his position on the team, and how he misses his home. Shiro’s starts to understand that he was wrong with Keith leading the team, and because of his favoritism, he didn’t see that there was another option in his team. A better option that everyone has more or less been taking advantage of. Shiro tells the Black Lion that he was wrong, that he shouldn’t lead the team if he didn’t see how Lance was struggling. Black tells Shiro that it’s ok to make mistakes, as long as we make an effort to correct them. Black then asks again, who should lead Voltron while Shiro is stuck there. And Shiro doesn’t even hesitate to say….“Lance should lead.” At first, Keith is not happy with being kept out of Black. He’s even more furious that Black let Lance in and not him. But he can’t say that he isn’t glad to back with Red. And after awhile, he realizes that Lance is a really good leader. Yes, he doesn’t lead like Shiro does. He leads his own way, helping others see their full potential, putting the other’s strong points to use as well as listening to their ideas and being able to create or change his plans at a moment. Lance is a great leader, because he doesn’t just lead the others he relies on them. While Lance is in charge, they never lose a battle, and have gained more allies in their fight against Zarkon. One such ally is able to help them get Shiro out of the astral plane, and the first thing he does is give Lance a huge hug and thanked him for leading the team in his absents. Lance is happy to be back with Blue, but even more so now that Shiro includes him in strategy meetings, relies on him more during diplomatic meetings. But mostly glad that Shiro’s talks with him and Hunk more, getting to know them so that he’ll be able support them better. So there’s my idea about how black Paladin Lance going down. I hope you guys liked it!

Update: I am actually writing a fic on this on AO3. If you haven’t read it and want to, it’s called ‘rose colored glasses make it hard to see’.

‘’Failures, mistakes, learning, and new beginnings are all a part of life. If I had taken my need to go to rehab as a sign of failure, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Instead I made the choice to start over, deal with my problems, and get back up again. Believe me, it wasn’t easy. There were times when it would have been easier to give up and stay where I was. But sometimes we need to hit rock bottom to see the way out. Our failures don’t define us; they shape us and we are all better for that… You are here for a reason. Use your gifts. Whatever gifts you’ve been blessed with, use it to make the world a better place. Nobody else has what you have so apply your thoughts and ideas to help change the world. You never know how you can impact this world unless you believe in yourself and try to make a difference. Take the causes you feel strongest about and do something to help or benefit them.”
