and spend less time on tumblr

Considering (again) moving my main SWTOR legacy over to Ebon Hawk from The Red Eclipse. Just weighing up the pros and cons.

  1. My whole legacy would be on one server finally, not just Quinton, so no annoyance about getting achievements on EH that I don’t have on TRE.
  2. I’d be with my guilds more. I feel like I haven’t been spending enough time on them and we have things to do like the flagship and SHs.
  3. Less unpleasantness in chat on EH. TRE is suffocating sometimes.
  4. Transfers are still cheap.
  5. Generally nicer community and I’d see more Tumblr people around.
  6. I’d actually get around to leveling my Agent

  1. I’d lose 4 of my character names so I’d have to use surnames, and it still puts those in lower case in chat which looks crap.
  2. EH isn’t as populated if I did get more into end game I’d struggle to group and do things like old group achievements.
  3. The time difference between my UK time and EST makes the above point worse. I go to sleep when things start getting more populated there.
  4. There’s a risk of losing one of my current names as they changed the rules on what’s ok on the blacklist, an incidental part of my name is flagged so if I transfer over it may reset it.

I’ll add to this if I think of any more.

Thank you for the case study. That really reminded me that I need to brush up on my clinpath before exams... which is next week... which means I probably should be spending way less time on this website

Probably just a bit let time on the website. Maybe limit it to a strict half hour twice a day? Everything on Tumblr will still be here after your exams are finished.

10 Easy Changes You Can Make To Your Lifestyle To Be Happier And Healthier Almost Instantly

I’ve been having some issues lately with staying positive and pushing myself to build healthy habits. At times I get too wrapped up in work and friends and my education that I forget that I’m a human being and that I need to put myself higher on my list of priorities. I have a major problems with articles that claim they have “easy” tips for being happy and healthy overnight. It’s really not that simple, and I’m not going to lie, the ones below aren’t a cakewalk for everyone, but I thought they were useful in my own experience and wanted to share them with you.

  1. Every time you reach for a soda or an extra coffee, switch it out for water. It provides a healthier and more long term boost of energy by clearing out those mentally depressing toxins from your body.
  2. Meditate once a day. Even if it’s only 30 seconds in the morning after you’ve finished getting ready, take a step back and devote some time to becoming calm and clearing your head to increase focus and encourage a peaceful mindset.
  3. Exercise. Don’t create a hardcore 2 hour daily workout routine right off the bat after months of little to no activity. Start small, maybe 10 abdominal exercises, 10 leg exercises, and 10 weighted tricep curls on each arm paired with a 15 minute walk around the block. There. That’s only roughly 30 minutes of your day and you’re not even sweaty enough to have to shower afterwards.
  4. Use natural ingredients as skin care. Moisturize with coconut oil, make your own essential oils and charcoal face wash, soap, and bath bombs, and maybe devote 1-2 days of the week to wearing no make up (if you wear it every day) in order to let your skin breathe.
  5. Keep your space organised. When you’ve just changed and that sweater you wore today is on the floor, take the two extra seconds to hang it up or fold it and put it away. When you’re done with your meal, rinse it and put it in the dish washer. It’s not that difficult to prevent your home from becoming a pig sty.
  6. Make your bed every morning. It’s a good habit to have, it makes your room look nice and clean, even if there are some things on the floor, and it makes it look even more appealing when you look over at 11 PM and decide whether to watch another episode of your Netflix obsession or get some beauty rest.
  7. Speaking of sleep, do it! Regularly! It is essential to your health and happiness to get a good amount of sleep every night. 7-10 hours is the recommended amount of nightly rest you should fit in, so set a bedtime and your alarm and get that shut eye.
  8. Spend the time to treat yourself. If you think a 20 minute sheet mask or some extra time to have a cup of tea and read your latest pick from the library shelves, set that time aside to enjoy yourself and wind down. You need the time to recharge, so keep that high on your priority list.
  9. Keep a planner. It may be something you’re already doing, but if you’re not, this is a life changing habit to have. Every morning, write down your to-do list, your schedule, and any reminders. Save some room on your calendar for any plans that may pop up and your life will instantly be more organised and you’ll be way less likely to forget that really important due date.
  10. Don’t push positivity if it isn’t there. Nobody is happy and bubbly and super motivated all the time, so don’t spend all of your time reblogging positivity quotes on Tumblr or trying to ignore every emotion that is “negative”. You’re human. Life happens and sometimes you’ll be just plain blue. It’s healthy to acknowledge the feelings that make you feel hopeless and unmotivated and seem all too frequent. The sun will shine tomorrow and you will find more and more reasons to fill every moment with meaning every single day.

Here’s to future health and happiness for you all. Cheers! x

5 Tips for Staying Motivated

1. Reward as you go. You should be proud of everything you accomplish along the way, not just the destination itself. So be happy when you complete one assignment or find sources for an essay, don’t just focus on the overall grade at the end of the year.

2. Set goals. Early in the semester, you need to establish what you want to accomplish this school year. Whether that be study more or go out less, you need to make and write down a plan right off the bat.

3. Don’t get discouraged. We all mess up. We all get behind in school work or break one of the rules we set for ourselves. That’s just a part of life. DO NOT use this as an excuse to give up though. Just start doing it again the next day. It won’t be the end of the world unless you give up complete.

4. Do things sooner rather than later. Try to get your work done as soon as possible. When you get home from school, take a short break, and I mean SHORT, and then get your assignments done for the day. That way, you can just relax and chill until you go to bed, rather than pulling an all nighter if something ends up taking longer than expected.

5. Procrastinate with other work. Let’s say you don’t want to read a chapter of a book for a class. Well, before doing that, go ahead and clean your room and practice your violin. If you’re going to procrastinate, do it with something worthwhile, rather than spending hours on tumblr. At least that’s a few less things you have to do later on.

How to study effectively
  • Set yourself achievable goals.
Never try to fool yourself into thinking you will read 10 chapters every day, run at least 5 miles, clean the whole house and manage 1 huge assignment in 1 hour.
This won’t work, you know that and you’re just fooling yourself.
Be realistic. Read 1 chapter, but actually read it, not highlight every word there. Read it again, make a summary of it, close the book, explain the material to somebody else or just write it down in bullet points. Do a 20 minute work out. Clean your table. Write 500 words of that 2k essay (or write 100 words, or 50, hovewer much you can actually write)\
  • Take breaks frequently, but not longer than 20 minutes.
I am a big fan of pomodoro technique when studying because it gives me a sense of a timeline that doesn’t allow to check on my phone, on my email- anything. Once you decide to ‘i’ll rest for a bit’ that bit turns out to be 5 hours on tumblr and bam - you’re not sleeping at night because your deadline is due.
Set a timer for yourself. 25 minutes of reading, 5 minutes break. After 3 cicles make a big 15 minutes break. After another 3 cicles take half an hour. Set yourself the exact amount of time  you will work, and the exact amount of time you will rest.
  • Turn off your Tumblr/Twitter/Youtube.
    No explanation necessary
  • Understand what you’re reading.
I can’t stress enough about this one, because in my 4 years of studying in med school i realized just how many people try to memorize exactly what is written instead of understanding the concept.
Listen, your memory will fail you. You’re not a perfect database that can reach for any data file that you need any time. People forget  things, this is how our brains operate.
Logic will never fail you. This is so important to understand to all of you in medicine, that if you understand the basic you can always draw conclusions from that.
For example, it is no problem for me to answer the question like ‘Clinical manifestation of pneumonia’ because i understand the pathogenesis, and just draw logical conclusion. This is what clinical thinking is based upon, basically
  • Don’t do things just because everybody do them.
Make notes for yourself, not for a pretty tumblr post. I used to spend a lot of time and money on those but they were less effective than messier quicker not very photo ready notes that i made, but those were actually more helpful.
Notes are here to help you, not to make an appearance of studying.
A lot of my classmates spend hours taking notes but once they come to class it’s like they just mechanically copied the textbook without actually realizing what they wrote. Which is why my point of understanding what you study is important in note taking, notes are just a quick summary you can go back to, some details you might have troubles remembering, they are helping you revise not read from when you are asked a question.

Hey tumblr. I’m going to spend a lot more time back on here with you all for a bit. I’ve let go of instagram but have chosen to stay with you all for the time being, as I have such a great support system on here! Plus, it’s just waaay less egocentric here. (to me at least.) I feel free to be myself; to show myself. Without judgement or 50 people unfollowing me because they found out I wasn’t “thinner” than the originally thought. Well here I am!!! One plump faery ready to kick some ass and become one with my current body. Stretch marks and all.

Body positivity for the wiiiin.

*Shirt was upcycled by myself, and both the skirt and leggings were purchased on etsy.*

i feel like the narrative on women and makeup has become so muddled and confused and misguided. there is honestly an industry at this point based on denying that makeup has anything to do with patriarchy in any way, shape or form. despite the obvious fact that, no, the vast majority of men do not wear makeup–and yes, we still consider many of them beautiful without it, and without even thinking about it.

the beauty industry has become attuned enough to the change in culture and women’s increasing liberation over time that they can no longer get away with marketing all their products as “fixes” for your “flaws.” no, they’ve actually co-opted feminist/activist rhetoric to sell their products to you. this imbues their product with a significance and a weight that, without this language, it simply does not have. sadly a lot of this language is similarly used by makeup blogs/vlogs/instagrams/etc without understanding that the capitalist machine has pushed this nonsense on us for years to dupe us. let’s actually take a look at some modern advertising in the beauty industry:

wow! it’s almost like “having it all” sounds familiar? hm, where have i heard that?

this is just one of dozens of products that compare their makeup to a revolution.

the beauty industry has been steadily using rhetoric to suggest that cosmetics bring women power and the like, such as:

but when all else fails, don’t convince women that beauty products will empower, change, enliven them, or make them assertive. just tell them it’s a part of who they are!

because how could the real you shine through without the help of some new foundation or lipstick?

there is such an absurdity to these slogans and such a sexism to the idea that these products are going to change women’s lives, bring them confidence, give them power or anything else. these products, nine times out of ten, are going to paint women’s faces in order to make them more appealing to the patriarchy.

it’s even gone far enough that women online have recently created a hashtag #thepowerofmakeup (?) to insist that makeup is not due to insecurities or a desire to please boys, but simply a personal choice and pleasure that exists in a vacuum and has nothing to do with anything else ever. this is the extent of the brainwashing. i don’t condemn these women in any way because their lack of understanding is not their fault and is a product of growing up in the society they have. to make myself perfectly clear, i do not condemn any women who wear makeup in any context. however the hashtag creator’s notion that “nowadays…it’s almost a crime to love doing your makeup” is literally baffling. makeup has never been more popular or beloved than it is right now, and the small group of people criticizing its misogynistic origins are nothing compared to the millions of women who feel compelled to spend hundreds every year on these products. it’s incredible to see women who do wear makeup portrayed as the outcasts, while women who don’t wear makeup know that they’ll have a tougher time getting jobs, be consistently assumed tired/upset/having a bad day, and be generally considered less desirable and inadequately feminine on the whole.

speaking of the growing prominence of youtube channels, instagrams, tumblrs, etcetcetc centered around makeup and makeup products, i want to make a point. can makeup be art? absolutely! can makeup be fun? absolutely! can makeup exist totally separate from male dominant spaces? i’m not positive, but i think it’s possible. however, it is the dominant culture’s obsession with and need for these products which is harmful to women and girls. many will proclaim that, “i like how i look without makeup too!” and “i can still leave the house without it!” but, as someone who once constantly reiterated these phrases, unfortunately i know them to be denials in many many cases. i felt myself, over the years, insisting that i could leave the house without makeup, yet found myself doing that, at most, five times in an entire year. i told myself i liked how i looked without makeup, yet after two days in the house without a drop, i looked in the mirror and felt ugly, dirty, incomplete. and i know i am not alone. sure makeup makes you feel beautiful, but why?

if we want to talk honestly about makeup and the enormous influence it has on women and girls, we have to rid ourselves of patriarchal notions and delusions that makeup “just makes me feel good!” and embrace the idea that we can feel good, all the time, be beautiful, all the time, no matter what we look like, without makeup in any form. our choices do not exist in a vacuum, and there was a reason i cried hysterically to my mother at 13 for not being allowed to wear mascara. all women are beautiful, all the time. it’s okay that women wear makeup. we just need to start examining why we want to, and patriarchy’s role in that “choice.”

PSA – Tumblr’s common roleplay courtesy.
                                                  Aspect: Stealing

Tumblr is supposed to be a fun place where we all feel comfortable to write and share our thoughts – but it really gets problematic when we can no longer do that due to negativity and fear.

Stealing people’s efforts, even if they are just non-existent things in the internet, specifically on Tumblr, like someone’s own icons, headcanons, theme codes, phrases for certain muses etc. is simply not okay.
In most cases, if not all, people end up getting hurt. Deeply emotionally hurt.
And not only the party who got stolen from but also the thief since from my long Tumblr-experience, in most cases, thieves will always be found out.
It’s a stressful situation for anyone, even people who have nothing to do with it when then drama starts, so I beseech you all to simply not let it happen to begin with.
In the worst case it also makes people leave their blogs, their beloved fandom or writing/roleplaying altogether. And this should not happen.

Naturally people always will have different opinions and views; I personally know of a few people who are feeling rather proud to be ‘stolen from’ than actually being angry, but this is NOT the majority. And everyone on Tumblr should be simply aware of it that the greatest majority of roleplayers are not fond of it. From my experience more than 80% of all Tumblr-users would be extremely angry if they were stolen from.

I explain this in more detail now:

I do know of quite many roleplayers who take their time and put over hundred of hours of work for making their icons. Testing shades and styles, finding art and also cropping it by themselves – and this naturally takes time.
Of course there is also a second type of it, people like me, who spend less time on it and are fast in finding art and cropping without thinking about editing for too long.
But it does not matter whether someone has put 100, 50 or only 5 hours in making their icons – they have still put some time in it.
Personally I’d say cropping icons is what takes the most time.

Borders can be prepared and made beforehand, usually people also use the same border for several roleplay-blogs they run; and mostly if people use a specific icon style, they have the PSD for it so that they can easily reuse it for several blogs as well.
Cropping icons is like finding the art, putting it into psd and then ponder about what part of the picture you even want to use.
How much should be seen? What shouldn’t be seen in it? What do you want to express with the icon? It often depends on how you crop it.
I personally spend the most time preparing my icons for the actual editing; and this step is the one of cropping.
If you simply save someone’s icons, these aren’t meant for you. They are not your style, not your interpretation of your muse. These are not your muse.
Even if you spend some hours in putting layers over it and changing lightning effects etc., these icons will never be yours. They don’t contain your thoughts. And it is like a slap to someone’s face who has put so much effort into making it as well.

There are roleplayer who simply write for fun or because they like the character they roleplay – but on Tumblr there are also many passionate writers like I am, for example, who try to give their muses a soul. A life, a backstory. Emotions, qualities and flaws.
People write it down in headcanons – these are personal views, a personal interpretation of someone and should be respected as such.
To simply claim these ideas as your own will not help you to write your muse better or even understand it better.

I usually spend more than a hundred hours to shape my muse’s portrayal; I think about it when listening to music or when I simply do nothing. And I know many who are like I am.
Headcanons are often viewed extremely personal; and simply stealing them is just wrong.
If you have seen an idea and truly like it, try not to copy someone’s portrayal completely. Taking aspects is usually fine – and to be on the safe side, just mention the roleplayer you got this inspiration from. People will appreciate it if you put credits for someone’s thoughts, for someone’s soul rather than simply stealing it.
But I repeat once again, simply stealing a whole portrayal by taking all headcanons is simply no-go.
The biggest fun from roleplaying comes from giving your muse this soul; and if you just steal your muse’s parts from different blogs this muse is not yours, but just a broken fragment.

Not everyone is talented or even good at coding, especially those who do not roleplay for too long.
Taking open resources, like editing a theme which the creator intended to be taken from people to enjoy it, are totally fine. But there are also those who code their themes from scratch; who put some thought into it and even developed their own complete style in creating them.
I don’t personally code a lot, but I know of people who coded their themes from the scratch, without any base code, and I do know how long it takes. Especially if people seek perfection and want to add all of their ideas they often take more than ten hours in creating it.
Copy pasting such code and stealing it, without naming from who it was, is like stealing someone’s creation in reallife and claiming it as your own.
Think about it for a moment; do you want to be praised for something which you haven’t even made yourself? Would you claim an award in reallife as your own for something you have stolen?
I know the views of a few people who are coding their themes for many years already – and for them themes are extremely personal as well.

General writing (also phrases for muses) etc:

Okay, this is my bread and butter. So this will all be written from my point of view.
I am writing for 15 years already, novella that is, and I also aimed to be an author in reallife. So much about my ambitions.
I carefully think about how I portray a muse – how I describe their thoughts, their actions and also how I actually portray them as whole. I often imagine to touch a part of them which is only visible for me and make it be visible for anyone else. I try to let their soul shine.
And I make it happen due to my long writing experience. I have learned how to write to make it appealing for people (at least in my first language, in English I’m still rusty) and I write every muse of mine differently. Of course people will probably always recognize my ‘signature’ whatever muse I’m writing – but this does not change that my writing slightly differs because I also have different thoughts for different muses.
This whole aspect is extremely personal for me as well; and if someone were to steal it I’d be extremely mad.
In the past duplicates literally tried to imitate my whole writing style; even going as far to take whole paras without changing a single word of it.
Writing is my true passion and I literally put heart blood in it; if someone steals my writing I do not view it as ‘hey someone likes what I write’.
If you like someone’s characterization, you don’t go and simply take it. Or at least attempt to take it – because I am honest with you, you can’t steal someone’s writing style.

The conclusion:
Everyone has their own style. Their own views and also their own focus when roleplaying.
But it always involves passion and especially effort.
Taking any of it and claiming it as your own is never okay.

Once you have your own style you will have more fun on Tumblr and can actually be proud of it.
And you know you don’t end up hurting someone’s feelings, even your own, by stealing.

Don’t get me wrong. It is not okay to send in hate, even to little thieves.
You rather have to try to open their eyes so that they don’t do it ever again and so that they can actually reflect on their doings.
Sending in hate is a complete different aspect I’d also like to address at one point – because it is never okay to send in any hate. Never. Not even in stealing-cases.
HOWEVER; stealing should not be tolerated.
People are allowed to do mistakes, of course; but they have to realize what they did was wrong. And in this case they have to apologize. Whole-heartedly, not vague and also in public, about what they had done and that they won’t do it again. Otherwise they don’t learn.
Moving on, ignoring those cases does NOT help anyone. Even not the thieves.
For example, I personally do not interact with thieves who have yet to apologize for their doings. I give people second chances, but they have to earn it.

So I beseech anyone who roleplays on Tumblr to not steal to begin with. People end up getting hurt. People will lose their interest in roleplaying. Keep this place fun and safe for everyone!

yo sorry if this OFFENDS any of you nerds on the FILMMAKING side of tumblr but I’m just gonna come out and say it:

Your medium-wide shot WISHES it was an over the shoulder shot and the only reason y’all use it is because your lazy ass doesn’t wanna handle framing an over the shoulder! Like uhhh maybe spend less time on setting up your oh-so-precious dolly zoom (which by the way has been done by every student filmmaker since Jaws), get your DP away from the damn crafts services table, and put their ass behind the viewfinder so you can properly convey the relationship between two characters through the language of the camera!

Sorry to be #rude but someone had to fckn say it!

Hi. Another ADD person here (also one trying to be a teacher), I actually encourage people to mess with fidgets, mainly cause of some studies that show some people even without ADD/ADHD perform better in school if they can keep one hand occupied. Like that way, one hand is free to take notes and the other is messing with the fidget. and plus, way I look at it; more people having fidget toys, less teachers yelling at people for being 'distracting' or when they doodle or write on their notes. byee

Makes a lot of sense to me. Like, for me, I tend to spend a lot of time on my phone while doing other things. But if I had a fidget toy, I might just mess with that instead… Like, the phone just gives me something else to do. At any rate, the more people who use fidget toys, the more normalized it will be, which is good, because then people won’t bother others about fidgeting!

Sorry for the general inactivity and lack of original content lately. It’s a combination of several things.

-general depression plus depression over Solstice’s loss. I always miss her but sometimes I get a fresh wave of absolute misery and that’s been happening.

-work business

-trying to reduce my computer time/be more efficient with it. I’m terrible about sitting there refreshing Facebook/Tumblr over and over, as well as wasting time reading dumb shit. So I’m trying to spend less time on that and more time on other hobbies and important-er things.

-just generally trying to get life together?

-started working out and increasing my activity to lose some pudge. Slowly making healthier food changes and learning more about diet/exercise, neither of which is easy for my couch potato nature. But it’s time to be done with excuses and delays.

-renewing our rental lease, I’m in a cleaning/decorating frenzy. We’ll see how long it lasts, lol. We never expected to be in this rental more than a couple years, and now we’re working on year six. So shit needs to get cleaned and purged.

Now that Chandra is back to activities again (for now, at least, hopefully for real) I’ll try to post more stuff.

This is for anyone who wants to get started / is just starting out in the langblr community. having a langblr has improved my outlook on learning languages and it has inspired and motivated me to work even harder trying to make progress with my target languages and I will always be grateful to this community and the amazing people I’ve met :)

What is langblr?
Langblr is just a combination of the words ‘languages’ and ‘tumblr’. there are many other communities such as “studyblr”, “booklr”,” weblr” and many more.

Getting your first followers
Like any social media platform, it’s fun to have followers and get tons of likes on your posts! I’d suggest making an introduction post and letting people know who you are, what you’re interested in, and the languages you are learning and make sure to mention your native language.

Be sure to add #new langblr to your post! Speaking of hashtags…

Finding blogs to follow
To be honest, I didn’t really put much effort into searching for the “perfect blogs” to follow, and I managed to find some great ones just by searching “langblr” on Tumblr, following a bunch of the recommended blogs! and following other langblrs back.

How to use hashtags effectively
Unlike Instagram, where a hefty use of hashtags can come off as spammy, Tumblr hashtags are a necessity and totally okay to use on every post! Of course, you still shouldn’t add hashtags that are completely unrelated to something you post (that pretty much ruins the point of hashtags), but here are a few that I use on all of my posts:

  • #langblr
  • #polyglot
  • #language learning
  • #languages
  • #new langblr
  • #your target language

Some other tips for getting started!

  • Talk to people! If you stumble upon a blog that you really love, let the owner know. Or if you find someone with the same target language as you, ask them what their tips are for doing well in it!
  • Have your native and target languages written somewhere on your blog.
  • Make your own pictures and give advice when you can. Followers will think of you when they see your URL pop up instead of just a jumble of words, and this is honestly the best way to get new followers!
  • Don’t spend all of your time on Tumblr, but fit in a few minutes throughout the day to take a break and see what the people you follow are up to. You’ll be less likely to binge scroll during prime study time if you let yourself get on for shorter times more often!
  • Have your ask box open so that people can contact you and ask you questions.
  • Post your own resources, vocabulary lists, grammar explanations, pictures, advice or whatever comes to your mind that you think other langblrs would find it helpful.
  • Communicate with other people in the langblr community: tell them you love their blog, ask them questions, offer to help them if they’re studying your native language or a language you’re proficient in, comment on their posts, take part in langblr challenges and events, etc.
  • Be friendly and respectful to everyone and avoid unnecessary arguments and drama.
  • Pick the right name and theme, Like any piece of design work, first impressions count.
Consider choosing a blog name that describes what it’s all about.
  • Post Regularly.
  • Have fun!

~ I tried to gather my own tips and  tips from other langblrs in this post, I hope this is helpful for someone new to the langblr community :)

Having class at 10:45 means that I am going to arrive half an hour earlier or 5 minutes late. Today I am 30 minutes earlier and I am spending my time scrolling on Tumblr, watching the empty class and writing this haha.
I am still kind of tired and anxious because I have been sleep deprived for over a week. Fortunately this week is less stressful than the last one, so I hopefully can cook something by myself to bring with me to campus and not to eat everyday sandwiches or pasta with tomato sauce. Also I am willing to take up working out because lately I gave up this and it is what makes me feel good during the day.
I am trying to write more here, because it is an excellent site to practice English to be honest and learn more.
Aaaand, today my team have to give a law presentation so I have to be there to reply answers in case the professors or students ask questions (I hope nobody asks tbh xD).
So, hey, I hope everybody has a great day!

2017 (a motivational post)

So here it is. Seventeen habits and goals for this new year, things to live by for the next 12 months. We’ll see how it goes.

1. Eat Healthier. I mean, you’ve been working on your distasteful eating habits for years, girl, and it gets better ! So keep up and do your best.

2. Run. Run more, run faster, run longer and further. You like it (well, most of the time) and it helps you to deal with your unmanageables stress levels. Put on these trainers and go running.

3. Do what you like. You’re going to graduate this year, and you’re still not the down-to-earth, responsible, and pretty dull adult everyone told you you’d become eventually. Maybe you’re just like that. So don’t try to be someone else, stop pretending you actually consider working in a big company and sit behind a computer all day so that you can afford a nice flat and expensive shoes. You don’t even care about decoration and shoes. So be brave, and go for what you are actually passionate about.

4. Learn how to play guitar. Come on, you own two of them and you’re not even able to properly play Wonderwall. So get off your ass, stop fantasizing about being a rockstar and teach yourself a song of two.

5. Learn a new language. And don’t expect to be bilingual by June. Be consistent and maybe one day you’ll be able to have a conversation with someone in Italian or in Russian.

6. Knit the Doctor Who scarf. Yeah. It’ll take a while so you might as well start now.

7. Move abroad. This is the first year of your independent life so DO IT. Don’t be scared. Be the adventurous person you want to be !

8. Be organized. Get yourself a new bullet journal and have som discipline. You’ll be less stressed out all the time, you know it. Consider opening a studyblr, whatever works. You’ve been getting better at this in 2016 so you know you can do this.

9. Chill out. Set your priorities and stick to it, and stop worrying about useless shit. It’s ridiculous.

10. Travel more. You love it, it makes the best memories, and it makes you spend quality time with your family and friends so explore the world, go on adventures and take lots of pictures !

11. Write. Write articles for the magazines, write articles on your blog, write here on tumblr, write in french and in english, write about the things you love, about music, art, write about your life. Try a bit of journaling everyday, maybe a bit of fiction ? Use that bullet journal of yours that always end up being half empty at the end of the year.

12. Take care of yourself. Pretty self-explanatory but yeah : pay more attention to your well-being, your feelings are important too so maybe take some time to reflect on your life. Pay attention to your appearance, wear the clothes you want to wear, clean your room, spend some time alone, go for a walk…

13. Document your life. So this is linked to 10. and 11. but yeah : take pictures, keep movie tickets, write a journal, write a blog, leave a trace. You’ve been wanting to make a travel journal for years so maybe this year is the time to start.

14. Draw. Try to improve your skills, maybe put your art on here ? Or draw in that badass journal / travel diary you’re supposed to start ? Learn to draw buildings, take lessons if you find the money.

15. Tell stories. So maybe this one is the most important of them all : tell stories to the world. Keep on taking notes for that book you want to write. Document your life, your travels. Make videos. Get better at photography. Instead of talking endlessly about stupid things to your friends, focus on telling good stories to the whole world. It can and it will work, I’m sure.

16. Be creative. Don’t be afraid to create things that are different, that make people look at you like you’re some kind of weirdo. You are some kind of weirdo, darling.

17. Try new things, meet new people. Don’t be afraid of what people think (you’re too old for that shit anyways), be fearless in what you do, and go out in the world (or on the internet) to meet people who are different or similar to you, interesting humans with interesting stories to tell and a world of their own living inside them.

You have one year, future me. I’m watching you.

my concepts for my modern olympian sets explained (part 2)

This is just my explanations for all my Modern Olympian Greek God aesthetics series. The concepts I had in mind while making it, and the story behind each one. If you haven’t seen it, the link is HERE.

A man who accomplished all that he had done merely for being exceedingly charming. Dionysus is an investor of hedonism. If it makes you drunk, stoned, dance, or horny, Dionysus has his hands in it. He owns several dance clubs, and rave venues across the nation, as well as has his own line of hard liquor and elite wines. On the downlow, he is also a drug lord. Pushing everything from weed to ecstasy; the only thing he won’t touch are prescription pills. He has homes in many countries, but his favourite is his mansion in Miami. A gorgeous luxury beach home where he hosts many Gatzby-level parties almost every weekend. Dionysus is a little person, and one of the more successful of Zeus’ bastards. Despite his birth, Dionysus had built a huge following for simply doing what he loves: partying.

One of the most driven of Zeus’ daughters, Athena had reached her position with little help from her father. Started as a traffic cop, Athena rose up the ranks in a considerable short period of time for someone as young as her. She went into homicide, detective, and then found herself as an FBI agent. However, she did not stop there, as her talents and ambition earned her a high ranking level in the CIA. Athena is an unstoppable force and an immoveable object; she is intelligent and lethal. Only briefly had she thought about joining her brother, Ares, in Military, but thought better since her talents suited something more political and sophisticated. Still young, it is only a few short years before she is running the entire show in the CIA headquarters. More often than not, Ares and Athena butt heads like rams on who is more badass. Athena usually wins.

Apollo has many talents, though he is mostly known for his music. He became a famous musician quite quickly, and soon after his artwork thrived as well. In almost every medium of art, whether it was music, painting, sculpting, or theatre, Apollo is good at it. What he is also good at is falling in love. He can’t help it, when he sees something beautiful, his heart gives in. They become his muse, and he obsesses over it until the next beautiful thing walks by him and steals his heart as well. His heart is nondiscriminatory; he will fall in love with any beautiful soul or face regardless of gender identity or sexual preference. He will write songs about them, paint a picture, or write poems, etc. It is plainly that Apollo wears his heart on his sleeve. Because of his charm and his beautiful talents, Apollo has many fans, and many vying for his affections. There are some, though, that dont always fall for him, and it sometimes…doesn’t end pleasantly. A few revenge songs here or there happen quite often. Apollo is very friendly and keeps his friends close, but his strongest friendship is with his twin sister, Artemis, who is the very opposite to him. While he is the sun; shines brightly and demands attention, Artemis is the moon; distant and mysterious, and sometimes disappears for a day.

Artemis is a completely independent woman. Also, the complete opposite of her twin brother, Apollo. She doesn’t open her heart so easily; the last time she did that, she got her heart broken. Therefore, romance isn’t something she is interested in, and being an Asexual, neither is sex. Artemis focuses on things that make her happy, which is taking care of wildlife. She volunteers at shelters and rescue centres, and does her best to defend urban animals in the city where they are often treated like vermin. Artemis has taken many strays in her time, and nursed them back to health and returned them back into the wild. Artemis prefers to be alone, though she has a close knit small group of friends that support her and her life choices. In fact, they practically live with her. She actually doesn’t have a standard job; she isn’t a fan of conforming, and picks up jobs for quick cash, but ultimately, she isn’t one to live for materialism. Artemis wouldn’t consider herself ‘homeless’, but she has couch-hoped, and slept in subways before. But, she is happy because she is doing what she loves, which is being the silent guardian of animals. And if you are ever caught abusing any of them, she will probably have her dog castrate you. Artemis prefers animals and nature overall more than people. Being an activist, she attends many rallies, many of them for environment issues, and for animal rights. The environment is a big one, and one of the ways she makes money is by picking up cans and bottles and selling them for pocket change. She would also fight you if you litter in front of her, so…. don’t. Additionally, Artemis is a fierce feminist, and will defend the virtue and honour of women if she saw injustice in front of her. If she had a computer and internet access, she would have a tumblr, let’s be honest.

This seasoned traveller is easily likeable, and knows many people thanks to his job. While he does live primarily in Vegas, and spends a lot of time being lucky in casinos, Hermes’ primary job is a courier. This is how he gets to travel so often and at such a cheap rate. Though he wasn’t always a courier… He had less socially acceptable careers, such as a thief. A thief who had a massive gambling debt that he owed the Mob Boss, Hades, and in order to pay it, he stole some money from his friend Apollo. Though all was forgiven after he repaid everyone (and let’s be honest, his “luck” at the casino isn’t luck at all). Even if Hermes has a tendency for trickery and most people wouldn’t trust him with their credit cards, it’s hard to hate him, because he does keep his allies and friends close. He knows how to pull strings to bring opportunities to his friends and family, and anyone willing to pay him. Especially since he has traveled all over the world, he’s met many people from different backgrounds and different talents. Hermes’ primary client in his courier career is Zeus, where he hand delivers important papers, packages, etc, to certain people that he doesn’t want to risk using the mail for.

Ares did not follow his father in business or politics. He was a difficult child to raise, even Hera’s coddling did not soften his edges. In school, an all boy’s school, he got into so many fights that he got expelled more than three times until they decided to send him to military school. That was the beginning of Ares’ career. It turned out the military life suited him perfectly… Probably not the best idea to allow him near fire arms, but it turned out he is very good with them. He still got into trouble; his easily triggered anger would get him into fist fights that would end up in broken noses and bruised eyes. However, with his father’s name, and his natural talents in warfare, his rank rose to Master Gunnery Sergeant after a few years. Though he shows promise to raise to higher ranks, his youth and his hot-headedness has been keeping him where he is. Besides, he works better on the floor than he does with political-side of the military with the lieutenants and generals. More often than not, him and his half sister, Athena, always butt heads on who are better, the CIA or the Military. They also often find themselves on opposite ends of every argument. Ares’ always comes off more emotional and Athena more logical, so it is no wonder than his older sister wins every argument.

next up: Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Persephone, Hebe, Eros, and Pan
