and so far we've seen him be human in ways that are good

  • I think everyone has a right to like and dislike characters, as a writer I sympathize with like everyone so it's hard for me to dislike a character so passionately.
  • I've just seen so much Scalia/Malia hate, more Malia hate than anything, and I'm trying to figure out why that is.
  • When Malia was introduced I was impartial, when Stalia happened I was like hell no, and I didn't like Malia for the simple fact that she was barely given screen time before heading into a romance with a main character in the most delusional/unhealthy (from a writer's standpoint aka mine). I saw the #AntiMalia posts and all I could think was I don't like her but that's way too far. They really don't have anything better to do with their time?
  • When season 5 came along and Malia actually got real serious development instead of being a comic relief I took notice. I appreciated what she was going through, I connected with her character. After her Tracey and Theo car ride moment I knew that I really liked this character and that there was no reason to hold the writer's piss poor job of her entry and relationship with Stiles against her.
  • I may be one of the only people on this world that didn't ship Scallison and Scira. Scallison was wayyyyyy too rushed. The first episode? Come on dude. I didn't get a choice if I wanted to see those two together the show said these two are going to be together, here you go, figure it out along the way. Scira was better for me because they had time to develop a friendship before but I have so many issues with Scira.
  • So I've never really successfully shipped anyone with Scott, which made me kinda sad over the seasons, it was always Stiles I was shipping people with. I DO NOT SHIP MALEO.
  • Once I realized how much I loved Scott and Malia as characters on their own without being romantically linked to anybody else I was more okay with the idea of them getting together. At first, like a lot of people I was weirded out because of Stiles BUT STILES DID THE SAME THING WITH LYDIA SO THERE SHOULDN'T BE A DOUBLE STANDARD.
  • By the rules of the show, which I don't recommend going off of lol, Scott and Malia can totally get together because we've seen it happen without any drama with Stydia. HONESTLY WHY PEOPLE ARE SHOCKED BY THIS IS A MYSTERY TO ME LIKE HAVE YOU NOT SEEN A SINGLE EPISODE OF ANY TEEN DRAMA WHERE THEY ALL DATE EACH OTHER MULTIPLE TIMES?!
  • I digress, my point is that most you only hate the idea of Scalia because of three reasons. You hate Malia for reasons people don't like to share. Saying you hate because there's something about her is a BULLSHIT argument. If you can't give episodes or specific details why look at yourself and ask why are you being malicious. Or you ship Scira. I get it. I would be salty too. BUT WE ALL KNOW KIRA ISN'T COMING BACK. STOP USING KIRA AS AN EXCUSE FOR YOUR HATE FOR THE SHIP. ARDEN MADE THE GOODBYE VIDEO LAST SEASON, LAST YEAR, YOU HAVE NO REASON TO BELIEVE SCIRA WILL BE TOGETHER OR GET MORE SCREEN TIME. IF THEY DIDN'T BREAK UP ON AIR HOPEFULLY THE WRITERS WILL EXPLAIN IT. KIRA WILL BE GONE FOR WHO KNOWS HOW LONG YOU CAN'T EXPECT SCOTT TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE THAT MAY NEVER COME HOME IN HIS LIFETIME. Or you have the mindset that Scott and Malia are the only two left single so they shouldn't be together just because that/boys and girls can be friends and nothing more.
  • GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE WITH THAT. If you think Scalia is happening soley because there the only ones left you haven't been paying attention or reading context clues. Posey and Shelley are really great friends which is why Scalia works and has a standing ground. Scalia is developed in much the same way. They have a BASIS OF FRIENDSHIP FIRST. They're both loyal to each other, protect each other, and kick ass together. They're iconic. And I still don't understand why people hate the friends into something more trope. That's a great trope. Just falling into a romance without being friends with a person is the trope I hate. BUILD THAT FRIENDSHIP YALL! MAJOR KEY ALERT.
  • https: //
  • I MEAN, LIKE YOU CAN SEE THAT THEY'VE HAD THAT TUNNEL SCENE AND THE ONE IN DEATON'S OFFICE, AND THE PORCH SCENE, AND ALL OF 6A!!! I suggest watching the Pennig vids first(Home, Soldier, and the This or That vids and the cutest upbeat scalia vid is And Your Smile Shining Bright)
  • PLEASE JUST GIVE THE VIDEOS A CHANCE, GIVE THE IDEA OF THEM BEING HAPPY A CHANCE BEFORE YOU WRITE THEM OFF. This vids at the beginning are a little AUey and are more manipued that the older ones because I made the playlist and they came out before 6a was released, the further you go down the list the more actual scalia scenes are used. I doubt any of us would be happy that Scott got a random new love interest for the last ten episodes that we know nothing about or care about and that wouldn't be in all ten episodes.
  • And lastly, Scott turned Malia human again. We all know that. If there hadn't been Scira or residual Scallison do you think you would've shipped Scalia then? I was blind to it until after 5b. He changed her back, she protected him from the Berserkers, from Enis at the hospital, he took care of her when she was drunk, helped with the Desert Wolf/Belasko talons, he told her he was still there for her after the Stalia breakup, if Peter hadn't bitten Scott none of this would've happened and obviously Peter's her dad. Like can yall see the lines here? And all this doesn't mean they have to be together, but if you really look at them and watch Shelley and Tyler together and Scott and Malia then hopefully you'll see what the rest of us see. Two amazing people that have come so far that care for each other they just so happen to figure out how much at the same time. : D
  • I LIED. LASTLY, PENNIG BITCHES!!!!! OHHH MY GOOOOOOD! THEY ARE LIKE LITERALLY SO IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER, TYLER MORE SO PROBABLY BUT IT'S SO OBVIOUS. THEY'RE SOCIAL MEDIA GIVES ME HEART PALPITATIONS. SHELLEY IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND SO FUNNY! LIKE PENNIG HAS PHOTOSETS OF THEM POOPING, EATING PIZZA, AND JUST BEING WEIRD AF. "I could eat you" Come on, if Shelley didn't have a boyfriend I think Posey would be on that like white on rice. To be fair, I think he already is kinda. It's so obvious he's head over heels for Shelley.
  • BITCH I LIED AGAIN. Lastly, at the very least, the idea of them is adorable. Take out Stiles for a second. If it was just Scott had turned her back and she eventually found her way to the pack but Scira still happened and ended, the idea of them wouldn't be so yuck to some of yall I would think. He's good to her. She needs that after her first relationship that wasn't great in my opinion, but also wasn't as bad as some stydias like to say. I say stalia is all wrong from a writing standpoint not a shipping standpoint. He "tames" her in some ways when she was still learning and she could bring out a wilder side in him. Hu Anita's King and Lionheart Scalia vid on that playlist showcased them perfectly. Like Scott's the King and Malia is his Lionheart. Iconic Duo.

what's the worst anti-kylo ren claim you've ever seen? (i'm really frustrated right now and kind of need to hear you vent. but you can wait until you're in the mood.)

I think the worst one is that he’s a fedora-wearing Nice Guy MRA school shooter misogynist. These traits are always lumped together in a nonsense mad libs attempt at media criticism, the kind of scattershot, inaccurate thinking that weakens any power those words may have once had. Because this reading of Kylo Ren isn’t just going a little far; it’s based on nothing. Brain synapses twitch helplessly in people’s brains as they watch a male character experience the feeling of anger, and they can’t help but reflexively ascribe to him characteristics of every person or strawman they’ve ever hated–even when absolutely none of those are present in the film or even in the subtext of the film.

So the version of Kylo Ren people get in their heads is that he’s a whiny (WHERE) entitled (HE HATES HIMSELF) mansplainer (WHAT) who cries too much. Emotions + man = ??????

And it’s just–very obvious that some people just do not have experience with complex characters. And I’m not talking extraordinarily “complex” in the sense that we need all day to unpack his layers; I’m talking about a character who simply has two traits that don’t ordinarily go together. A Dark Jedi who feels like he has to beat the Light out of him to be evil. Someone who tortures people for information but who shakes in sad ominous lighting as he watches planets burn, regretting his inability to save them. Very, very basic storytelling pulses that tell us that this isn’t the final form of Kylo Ren, that we must see the boy where the man now stands, that we must hold him in sympathy even as we’re horrified by how far down the bad path he’s gone. Narratively, there is no way any of us viewers can write him off yet. That’s all anyone is asking. But the never-ending waves of hatred and dismissiveness and repulse that his non-fans feel isn’t rooted in the text. It is a thing that exists outside of him–he’s just the latest vessel that they can use as a repository for things they hate in the real world, and they can mold him into that, ignoring any textual cues that might tell us he’s not totally into this whole Dark Side thing. And this gives them the opportunity to pursue soft targets, teenagers who were introduced to the great villains of Star Wars through him, Girls on the Internet, fans who would maybe like to see him hug his mom before the series ends. It is easy to impress your views on such people if you are loud and angry enough. You risk nothing by demanding that they please shut up about Kylo Ren, don’t you know that he’s horrible, unworthy of sympathy or even attention, he’s a literal fascist

These arguments are an embarrassment. I know it is easier to fight misogyny or whatever by creating these fake enemies in your mind and attacking people you can actually control somewhat, running someone off their blog or making them nervous about voicing even a vague interest in a character who has these contradictions at his heart. But doesn’t it embarrass you that that’s what you have to do to feel secure in your moral tastes? Don’t you have any concept of your fellow humans as people capable of holding two ideas in their mind at once, that characters like Kylo Ren invite us to find ways of resolving the darker and lighter parts of our soul? That people can think about his place in the narrative and even genuinely like him as a character without being planet-killers themselves? The hyperbole is ridiculous, and people will start tuning you out because it’s clear you don’t have a damn clue what you’re talking about.

I watched the new trailer and there are some things that intrigue me, and other things that put me right off. Where on earth is this Draeden relationship coming? We've had no scenes between them and all of a sudden we get a shot of this badass mercenary sobbing over his unconscious body? Why do relationships on this show have to be so rushed? A rushed relationship with Derek of all characters is never going to be popular.

ahhhh, the new trailer…. i must admit i at first had trouble seeing anything aside from naked and unburnt parrish, poor melissa and scott with kali eyes covered in blood… but i’ve recovered somewhat from that and am now ready to discuss other stuff.

Draeden…. well this is another potential minefield. the first trailer gave us Stalia and the fandom went nuts and now Stalia is hitting a “rocky road” (jeff davis, sdcc 2014) and there are no “romantic” scenes in the trailer. But of course instead we get Braeden and Derek and the fandom goes nuts again.

and don’t get me wrong, i get the reactions. But I also know that trailers are hugely misleading and i have this sneaking feeling we’re reading more into this than we should.

My reasoning is like this:

  • If we’re shown Derek in mortal peril, Derek will not die
  • If we’re shown this much “romance” in the trailer, it’s probably not that important

why? because the TW PR team is lying liars that lie, and they always twist the scenes to make it look like more than it is or something else entirely.

But, you might ask, this can still mean that Derek and Braeden is endgame.

Sure, but i don’t think so. Because we’re already about halfway through the season and so far we’ve had next to no interaction between them, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned in TW it is that rushed relationships never ends well. Scallison was go after one episode and seemed cute as a button, but looking closely at it it was not all that healthy, especially scott was borderline creepy (and no i don’t hate scott, but that doesn’t mean he’s perfect either), jennifer and derek ended badly, heather and stiles was supposed to be a thing, but she was killed before it began and so on.

And i’ve been looking at the trailer and i have this headcanon that Derek goes to Braeden for help. They need help with the deadpool and she seems to be on their side (paid to maybe but what the hell). Also Derek is losing power and needs to learn how to defend himself the human way - meaning guns and weapons and who better to ask than a mercinary? When they make out we see he has a bandage on his side, so clearly he’s been hurt and not healing, and this might spur his need to learn. We know Braeden likes what she sees and i’m guessing this is one of those typical ‘hot people in a sexy situation in mortal peril leads to sex’ kind of things.

In fact i wouldn’t be surprised if all of the Draeden stuff we see here is from the same episode/day. I’ve seen a lot of people saying that it’s weird that Braeden would care so much for him and be crying when it looks like he’s dead. I don’t know about you, but i’ve been in a couple of situations where people were hurt, and some of them i didn’t even know and i still was an emotional wreck during and after. It’s not that farfetched. Remember Stiles was pretty emotional as well all the way back in 1x04 “magic bullet” when he thought Derek was dead - and he  didn’t really know him all that well and supposedly hated him…

So i’m not too worried about this. But what i do know is that relationships usually serve some kind of purpose - we usually don’t see “romance” just for the sake of romance, and i’m not really seeing the purpose here, aside from braeden teaching/helping him (and being paid for it which is somewhat icky). But if this is just a roll in the hay, then good for them. just because people hook up doesn’t mean they need to get married, and we certainly shouldn’t shame them for it.

Let’s wait and see where it takes us. in the meantime you can share my little headcanon on what is happening:

we need to make our own deadpool ppl

and badass braeden is gonna help

and also help me because i need to learn how to use a gun

look i’m not even healing like i used to. i have bandages and stuff…

weapons training is sexy stuff - being human is scary and hard - come comfort me

oh no! sexy time interrupted by intruders in the loft! get your guns!!

oh crap, human!derek is hurt and unresponsive. braeden is upset (proving she is human after all under her tough girl persona)

(after this she immediately calls Stiles who comes to save the day. Someone write me a fanfic?)

We've never really seen any of the homeworld gems outside of stressful situations. Do you have any speculation on what their personalities might be like in an environment where they feel safe and relaxed?

Well, looks like my time is come. Long post, so it goes under the cut. (This kind of turned into “Homeworld crew integrating into Beach City” a bit)
