and she just gave me an unamused face

[Bff/N] - Best Friend Name [H/Bf/N] - Her Boyfriend’s Name

_____

You were out this fine after noon with your best friend. It was just a simple lunch date you both scheduled. But the moment you saw her, your stomach turned.

She had a black eye and a bruise on her wrist like someone grabbed her there. You knew that bastard [H/Bf/N] was hitting her but she wouldn’t admit it. Jason often heard you ranting about the asshole.

You stood up and strode over to her. Taking her wrist gently in your hands and looked at the black eye. “Did that bastard do this?” you asked softly. She stayed silent, “[Bff/N] please tell me the truth” sitting down at the table as she sat across from you.

“H-he promised not to do it again.” She whispered. You let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding. “[Bff/N] he said that the last time too didn’t he?”

She just nodded. “Please you can’t stay there. You can stay with Jason and I until you get on your feet. But you can’t stay there” you pleaded in fear for your friend.

“No I couldn’t impede on you guys. I know you and Jason need your couple time.” she shook her head vigorously. You chuckled, “Trust me, we live together, we get plenty of couple time” a teasing tone in your voice.

“I can’t leave him.” She murmured, “Can we just not talk about this now?”

You sighed, “Fine, but we’re not done here”

You spent the rest of the lunch just talking about life and random events. She especially liked asking about you and Jason. She always found you guys to be a perfect couple, but you knew that she hasn’t seen you two butting heads.

It was a nice lunch until her phone rang.

“Hey [H/Bf/N]” she answered shyly

“Where the hell are you?!” you heard his yelling from where you were sitting.

“I’m just getting lunch”

“Well get home now you should’ve told me first”

He hung up the phone after that. You felt your blood boiling. That asshole had the nerve to call, yell at her, then hang up on her.

“I have to go” she spoke, her voice was fragile like it would shatter if she spoke any louder.

“I’m walking you home” you insisted. “N-no [F/n], I-its —”

“No arguments, I’m walking with you” standing up and picking up your jacket.

She gave in and the both of you payed before exiting the small cafe. You were going to give that piece of shit a piece of your mind.

She unlocked her door when you got to her apartment. Immediately upon opening the door he was storming toward her but stopped when he saw you.

“What the hell are you doing here?” he spat. “A pleasure as always asshat” you gave him a unamused grin.

“What’d you call me?” he stalked toward you. “I think you heard me just fine by the amount of smoke coming out of your ears” you mused.

“You bitch” his face was red with anger. You knew you were poking the bear here but you had to get a point across.

“Me a bitch? If you ask me only a cowardly bitch would hit his girlfriend. What was wrong this time, couldn’t get it up?” you stepped up and got in his face.

Before you could react he had risen his fist and connected it to your jaw. You stumbled back, hand gripping your jaw. [Bff/N] ran over to make sure you were alright. He brushed by the both of you, “I need a drink” and out the door.

“Are you alright [F/n]?” she asked concerned.

“Yeah. Yeah I’m fine” you stood up feeling a bit of blood on your jaw. ‘Shit Jason will kill him’ you thought.

You went into her bathroom and cleaned up the blood. She brought you a bandaid and first aid kit. After taking care of the injury, she spoke up.

“I think that you should go, he will only be angrier if you’re here when he gets back.” she instructed. You nodded before heading to the door.

The walk home your jaw hurt like hell and you had to think of a way so that Jason wouldn’t up and shoot the bastard. Long story short you walked slow to gain more time.

Putting your key in the door, before pushing it open you took a deep breath. Mentally preparing yourself for the bombardment of questions you were just about to receive.

Pushing it open you walked inside. Hanging up your coat and setting your bag on the table next to the door. Making your way to the bathroom.

Looking in the mirror you examined the forming bruise. Peeling off the bandaid and cleaning it up with rag.

“I thought I heard you come home” hearing a familiar voice. You looked at Jason and his grin dropped.

He strode over lifting your chin up with his finger, “What happened?” concern was laced in his voice, as his expression mirrored it.

“It’s nothing, just got mugged” you shrugged before turning back to the mirror.

“Mugged, during the day. You and I both know that’s not what happened.” He crossed his arms. Why did he have to be so damn intuitive?

“Come on cough it up.” He waved to you.

You sighed knowing lying would be no use. “It was [H/Bf/N]. I stood up to him and he slugged me” keeping your eyes from his.

“The son of a bitch did what?” He growled. His eyes darkened and his demeanor changed to vigilante rather than boyfriend.

“Jason please don’t, you know, murder him” you followed as he walked out of the bathroom. You knew where he was going, straight to his gun safe.

“Jason” you stopped him as he turned around. He looked at you, he was pissed off.

“I’m not going to let the bastard get away with it”

“I know and we shouldn’t but I think the police might be the best way to go on this one. Maybe we can make it so she won’t lose the apartment or anything. I have a friend in the police force, let me reach out” you persuaded, slowly removing the firearm from his grasp.

His tense body relaxed. Setting the gun back into the safe and turning back to face him.

He examined your face, gently brushing his thumb over the bruise. Then leaned and rested his forehead to yours. “You know I’d never hit you like that right? I know I have a temper but I’d never take it out on you”

“I know Jay. I know” brushing your nose against his.

You and Jason headed over to see [Bff/N] to try and convince her to talk to the police. She had told you he was out so the both of you left that minute. It didn’t take long to get there.

“Hey, how are you feeling?“ you questioned as the both of you walked into her apartment.

“I’m fine, what’re you guys doing here? Is something the matter?”

“Yeah, something is. We’re not letting you live like this anymore. I’m begging you, will you please talk to a police officer. I’ve reached out and a friend of mine is more than willing to talk with you” you begged as she began to think.

Though you all heard the door open, “I’m back.” You flinched slightly at the voice. Jason wrapped your hand in his when he noticed your flinch.

“Who the hell are you?” he questioned upon seeing Jason.

“I’m [F/n]’s boyfriend” Jason answered simply. He laughed, “Sorry for you man”

“Excuse me?” Jason stepped toward him. You kept a grip on his hand, keeping him from getting too far.

“She’s got a mouth on her that one, but I bet you keep it busy with other things huh?” He chuckled.

Okay, yeah… he’s a dead man.

Letting go of your hand he punched [H/Bf/N] right to the jaw” He fell to the floor within the instant.

“Agh, shit” he groaned, getting to his hands. When he stood up Jason pinned him to the wall, “Don’t ever tough her again. You do and you’ll be leaving in a body bag”

The two did not know how serious he actually was. You put a hand on his shoulder, “Bastards not worth it Jay”

At that he let him go before punching him again, knocking him out. “[Bff/N] how about you go grab somethings, you’re welcome to stay with [F/n] and I for awhile. Until you’ll be safe from this douche.”

She nodded and quickly ran into her bedroom. Grabbing some clothes and necessities.

Turning to him, you wrapped your arms around his waist and laid your head on his chest. “That was hot”

You felt his chuckle vibrate in his chest, leading to a smile to grow on your features. “I’m always hot” he teased, making you punch his arm lightly.

You ended up taking [Bff/n] back to your place and convinced her to talk to the police. [H/Bf/N] was soon arrested and received a guilty verdict for assault.

She moved back into her old apartment, you and Jason gave her a hand with getting rid of [H/Bf/N]’s things. She thanked you for everything before you returned home.

Both collapsing on the couch you nestled into him. “Who would’ve thought, Jason Todd’s a hero during the day and night”

He chuckled, “I think you deserve the credit for helping her”

“Yeah but you knocked him out”

He smiled down at you. Before softly kissing your forehead, eliciting giggles from you.

“You’ll always be my hero though” saying it into his chest. Muffled by his shirt.

A smile grew on his face has he wrapped his arms around you tighter. How could anyone ever say they love someone and end up hitting them? He would never dream of hitting you. He just loves you too much.

Meddlesome Magical Cookies (Carlos/Reader)

Hi…. So I don’t know what to say other than I’m even deeper in this hole than I thought, so I found myself writing this and now I find myself posting it. I don’t know whether anyone could want any more of my rambling writing, but just let me know if you do, or if you have any ideas you’d like to suggest,

Summary: Mal’s revenge plot doesn’t go to plan, Carlos is the sweetest person in all of Auradon, you find the whole situation emotionally draining, and nobody deserved to pass Goodness 101 because they’re all evil masterminds.

***

Mal maintained that Carlos had it coming. That little shit had been ruining her and Ben’s dates all week for no apparent reason other than he was bored. She figured the least she could do would be cast a little teensy tiny spell on him in return. It was just your luck you got dragged into it.

Jay was an awesome person in your opinion, you hadn’t known him well a month ago, (hell it was only a week before that that you’d joined Auradon Prep in the first place), that was until you were paired together for a school project. You’d discovered he was a good guy and a great friend. It hadn’t mattered to you in the slightest who his parents were, and you had speedily become close friends with the Rotten Four, even declaring yourself their official parent after observing through their telling behaviour and rushed stories how awful their lives had been so far. You knew better than most that someone’s family had no effect on who or what they were, curtesy of your own parents.

You had been lifted out of school for the past week in order to visit Olympus and spend time with your parents (you really loved your parents, your Dad Hercules would relive you of your studies so you could spend the day together, and your Mother Meg would simply bail you out because she knew how much it sucked), and Jay had been nice enough to compile all the notes you needed. You were only annoyed at yourself that you’d forgotten to pick up the notes yesterday evening like you’d both planned and now had to drop by Saturday morning. It was comical really; how were you to know Mal had fed Carlos an altered batch of love potion cookies the night before, leaving adequate time for the spell to take effect by morning (it was a different recipe to the one she’d used on Ben, she had after all wanted different results). This one decreed whomever the affected saw first became the object of their unbridled affections. To put it simply, Carlos would fall in love with whoever he saw first that morning.

You knocked on the door.

You found yourself fidgeting as you waited, regretting not making more effort this morning, you didn’t care at all what Jay thought of your appearance, at least no more than anyone would care around their friends, but Carlos… Let’s just say you had a borderline unhealthy need for him to find you attractive. It was just, he always looked so goddamn attractive and his freckles were unfairly cute and his smile was lethally beautiful so you just, sort of hoped, that he might feel the same kind of way about you. Well. You thought that slim possibility was now nonexistent.

You knocked on the door again.

Jay, ever the heavy sleeper, didn’t emerge from underneath his mound of bedding. Carlos, ever the light sleeper, was unceremoniously awoken. He shuffled towards the door, opening it while rubbing his eyes and letting out the most adorable yawn fathomable.

“Hey Carlos- oh sorry, did I wake you?” You winced studying the boy’s sleepy disposition.

He watched your beautiful eyes scan his face, the concern for him in them making you all the more attractive. You were only wearing super causal clothes (in fact you’d slept in the shirt) but you looked incredible, mildly nervous at his prolonged silence and dark circles were visible under your eyes, but incredible nonetheless.

“Carlos? You okay there?”

He coughed. “Yeah. Yes, I am- I’m fine.”

You smirked dubiously. “You sound it,”

“So, uh, what can I do for you Y/n? I mean, how can I help?”

“I haven’t been here all week, and Jay had a bunch of notes to give me.” Your voice lilted at the end, the statement coming out as a bit more of a question as you peeked into the room.

“Well you can come in, if you- if you want? We can look for them, and, um, we can wake Jay up and make him help,”

“Awesome. Thanks Carlos.” He didn’t know whether his heart swelled at the smile of relief that spread across your face, or at the way you said his name. His heart always missed a beat when you spoke it, but now the effect seemed amplified somehow.

Your smile turned wicked at the sight of Jay soundly sleeping. You dropped your bag as quietly as you could on the floor, and crept forward. “Wake up Jay,” you exclaimed painfully loud, jumping on top of the slumbering boy.

The boy in question groaned loudly. “Y/n? Is that you?”

“Yeah, I’m really sorry I couldn’t resist.” You explained impishly.

“Don’t worry about it, it’s not a bad way to wake up.” Jay tugged down the duvet and grinned lewdly up at you, nodding at your straddled position over him.

You rolled your eyes at his innuendo, and moved to climb off of him when you heard a noise behind you.

Both you and Jay turned around curiously. “Carlos. Did you just, growl?” Jay asked disbelievingly.

“Don’t touch Y/n.” Carlos was stood with his fists clenched, his chest heaving and the rage practically rolled off him in waves.

“What did you just say? Did you just tell me not to touch Y/n?” Jay clarified bemusedly as you carefully slid off the bed.

The younger Isle boy didn’t cease to look distressed and you approached him, your confusion evident.

“Are you okay?”

“I don’t-” He stopped, stretching his hand out towards you. You took it immediately and then Carlos had his arms wound around your waist, and his face nuzzled in the crook of your neck. What. You looked at Jay, who was trying not to laugh and failing miserably.

The boy currently wrapped around you let out a noise between a hum and a sigh, obviously contented. You felt his warm breath fan your exposed collarbone and you tried really really hard not to blush as red as Ariel’s hair.

“Carlos?” You questioned. No response. “Honey,” you implored, the word rolling off your tongue far smoothly than could be expected, and he finally lifted his head with a dopey smile. “Have you been feeling… weird lately? Maybe because you drank something, or you met someone strange?” Jay nodded his head at your assumption something unnatural had happened to Carlos to make him act this way. He looked thoughtful.

“He wasn’t like this yesterday,” Jay offered, his lips twitching unbidden. You knew why he was fighting a smile. You could practically feel Carlos staring at you intently (read: lovingly).

“Carlos what did you do last night?” You probed but it fell on deaf ears. Carlos had began to fiddle with your hair idly and yet again you resisted the compulsion to let a rosy blush consume you.

“I want more of Mal’s cookies.” Carlos murmured absently but with surprising determination.

You and Jay shared a look.

“Mal’s cookies?” You both said in perfect time together.

“They were really good,” The freckled boy muses, more to himself.

You conspire silently with the older VK yet again and know exactly what you have to do.

***

“Mal.” Nothing.

“Mal!” Nothing again.

“Mal, open the door right now or I swear to Hades I will-”

The door swung open.

“Jay it is a Saturday, what is wrong with you?”

“What did you do to Carlos?” Jay asks assertively, leaning against the door frame. Her smirk is delightedly cruel (some things never change) and she goes to answer him when she spies you. And Carlos. Who had refused to let go of your hand as you journeyed over there and now in addition held your waist and was he- Yes. He was now smelling your hair.

“Oh this is much better than I planned.” Mal sniggered, crossing her arms. “Hey Y/n.” You quirked an eyebrow. “Having fun?”

“Mal.” You said sternly ignoring Carlos’ breath which tickled your ear. This boy was going to be the death of you. “What the hell did you do to Carlos?”

“Well considering this turn of events, I’d say I’ve helped him act on his feelings.” You didn’t think to much on that, you weren’t sure you could handle that at 8:48 on a Saturday morning.

“Mal just tell us what you did.” Jay stood firm, crossing his arms and looking protectively over at you.

She sighed, “you’re no fun,” she strolled over to her bedside table, casual as you like and grabbed something from it. You all stepped into the room. “Here.” Mal tossed the item at Jay who caught it effortlessly.

“You didn’t.” He said upon seeing what it was.

“I didn’t. It’s a different recipe don’t worry.”

“What’s going on?” You asked.

The purple haired girl turned more somber as she caught onto how confused and unamused you were. “I’m honestly sorry you got pulled into it Y/n, I figured he’d see Jay and it would be really funny-” Mal actually looked kind of contrite and you squeezed her hand.

“Just tell me what you did,”

“I gave Carlos a love potion. One that worked by making him fall in love with whoever he saw first this morning.” Her face was mostly impassive but her eyes looked worried. Auradon was fast giving her a new moral code.

“Love potion?” Carlos himself questioned, his grip on you tightening.

“Why?” Jay queried.

“He’s been messing up my dates with Ben all week. For no reason. I thought this would get him to lay off,”

“Can you make an antidote?” You interjected trying not to seem too upset. It wasn’t because Carlos was now in love with you, that was pretty much a dream come true, but you wished it wasn’t induced by a potion and spell.

“Sorry, you kind of have to let it run its course,”

“And how long will that be?”

“I’ve no idea,” You glared at her. “Whoops?” She tried.

“You’re so lucky I love you.”

***

It had been a week. And you were an awful person. A truly reprehensible excuse of a hero and you parents should be ashamed. Why? Because you had loved it.

Carlos pretty much hadn’t left your side. He had arrived outside your room every school day at 8AM, accompanied by some kind of breakfast treat he’d been persuaded into buying at the bakery and, obviously, Dude. You had established a routine of him being adamant you couldn’t pay him back, and you trying to outwit him and sneak him the money at some point in the day. He always won (thievery and its trappings had been Jay’s speciality sure, but that didn’t mean Carlos was bad at it) and you always pretended like it wasn’t adorable.

He walked with you to every class and tried to meet you after every one concluded. On the few occasions he hadn’t been waiting for you when you got out, you only had to listen for thudding footsteps and know he was racing to arrive before your lesson ended and hadn’t quite succeeded.

He was glued to your side at lunch, and you were required to taste every single item on his plate to affirm it’s deliciousness, even when you had food yourself (“mines better, just try it”). Even in general he was very big on sharing things with you and didn’t care about displaying his affection for you in public. Thankfully, that eased up after the first day otherwise you would have gone round the whole time looking like a tomato.

Your friends thought the whole thing was hilarious. Evie would constantly coo and remark on how cute a couple you were which would have Carlos grinning like a fool and you shooting her deadpan looks. Jay was amused by the whole affair and hadn’t stopped teasing you for even a second. Ben (arguably your closest friend) was at once concerned about Mal using disruptive magic, confused by the strange dynamic, and oddly smug in his insinuations that hinted he knew how this would pan out. Lonnie and Jane had reactions that best reflected the general consensus at Auradon Prep. They hadn’t even realised Carlos was under a spell. On Tuesday Lonnie had made an innocuous off hand comment; “I’m so glad you and Carlos finally got together, the suspense had been killing me,” to which you had spluttered out an explanation before making a hasty departure. Jane had been the same, but this time you were calm as you informed her of the situation and she was the one sputtering. By the time a week had passed they all acted as if they knew something you didn’t. It was infuriating.

Mal’s reaction was… Bizarre at best. She had been avoiding you, you assumed out of guilt, but an inordinate amount of times in a day you would catch her staring at you and Carlos. Her expressions ranged from surprise to glee to mischief to amusement to worry. Whatever it was, you knew Mal wasn’t great at ‘touchy feely’ stuff, so you maintained you would wait for her to come to you.

As for everyone else, you wanted to scream. No one had batted an eye, not even blinked. And it wasn’t like Carlos was subtle, sure you wouldn’t let him kiss you (the lack of consent would make your skin crawl), but he had been fairly happy with finding other ways to be obscenely romantic and adorable.

You were incredibly shocked when nobody commented or seemed surprised as Carlos positioned himself half on top of you in the Cafeteria and tried to ply you with fries. Surely someone should be surprised by these developments? This wasn’t Carlos’ normal behaviour, he was under a love spell for crying out loud. But still, not a single person seemed confused by this turn of events.

All in all, you were in far too deep and didn’t really want to dig yourself out. However, your father had one of the best moral compasses in the world, and you knew what the right thing to do was.

Enough was enough. Despite how much you had guiltily enjoyed Carlos being in love with you all week, it was wrong. And you told him as much.

“Y/n, wait,” He pleaded as you all but dragged him to Evie and Mal’s room. “I don’t want to lift the spell.”

You faltered for a second but continued climbing the ornate stairs. “You’re not thinking straight. You don’t know what you want.” You could see the girls’ door at the end of the hallway and strode towards it.

Carlos ran ahead of you, walking backwards as he tried to stop you getting to the door. “I know I don’t want to stop feeling like this.” You avoided his eyes. “Y/n,” He tilted your chin up, forcing you to look at him. “I love you.”

This had started as a joke but it didn’t feel very funny now.

“No you don’t.” You said firmly and he tried to argue back but you kept talking. “Carlos. You have been so amazing to me this past week, and I’ve loved you loving me, but this isn’t right. There is someone out there who can make you feel this way, without a love potion, and I can’t keep you to myself and deprive you of being in love for real.” You felt stinging tears form and you willed them not to fall. Since when were you so emotional? God, this whole thing was so dramatic. You turned away from Carlos, who looked painfully crestfallen. Your only solace was that you weren’t the only one who’s eyes were swimming with unshed tears.

You rapped on the door twice.

Evie answered it, looking bubbly and chipper as usual. However she immediately seemed to understand how distraught the two people knocking on her door were and so sobered quickly.

“Are you two alright?”

“Is Mal here?” You asked insistently.

“Yeah she’s right- Mal, Y/n and Carlos are here to see you.” Evie interrupted herself, summoning her best friend.

“Well if it isn’t my favourite couple,” she smirked as you entered the room, emerging from the bathroom herself.

“Undo the spell.” You ordered.

“Y/n I need-”

“I know you said it wasn’t possible but there has to be an antidote or an anti spell or some vodoo pendant to make this go away, I mean half my family are gods I’m sure there’s someway we could-”

“Y/n, Y/n listen to me.” Mal cut you off, grabbing your shoulders and halting your rushed expulsion of words. Her eyes flicked to Carlos who was moping in the corner. “I have to tell you something about the spell.”

“What? What now, it lasts for a year?” You ran your hands through your hair before tossing them up in frustration.

“Does it?” Carlos said hopefully from the other side of the room. You glared at him.

“Carlos. Stop. You’re not really in love with me and you never could be. Stop fighting, we need to remove the spell.” You spat, aware you were being mean but you couldn’t bring yourself to retract your words. Couldn’t he see this was hurting you just as much?

“I don’t care about the stupid spell, I love you. Why can’t you understand that?” He surged across the room towards you, staring back at you fiercely.

“No you don’t. You only think you do.” You insisted, your faces mere millimetres away from each other at this point.

“Uh, guys?” Mal piped up from beside you. “I have a confession to make.”

“What?” You and Carlos snarled simultaneously.

“The love potion only lasted 24 hours.”

Silence.

“What?” You whispered.

Mal scratched the back of her neck, torn between feeling remorse at how upset her friends clearly were, and pride at how this whole situation had turned out.

“We kind of found out on Wednesday, the recipe, the one I used for the cookies, it was only for 24 hours.”

“'We?’”

“Everyone else knows,”

You gulped. “Let me get this straight: Carlos hasn’t been under a spell since Sunday morning?”

Mal nodded.

“All week, that wasn’t a spell, that was all him? All genuine?”

Mal nodded again.

“Carlos is really in love with me?”

“Maybe you want to ask him that. We’re just, we’re gonna go.” Mal backed out the room, only pausing to grab Evie who had been watching the exchange with glowing eyes, and would have continued to do so if she left her.

The door shut with a loud click.

“You love me?”

Carlos was now somehow sheepish, and sheer adoration coursed through you as he shuffled his feet and fidgeted. “Carlos?” You had stepped apart during the revelation but now you closed the distance.

His eyes locked on yours. They seemed, almost sad. “Yeah. Yeah, I do. I love you so much Y/n.”

“Well good,” you laughed shakily, tugging him forward. He awkwardly collided with you, the very definition of surprised. “Because I love you too.” You didn’t realise until you said it how true it was. You loved Carlos.

He smiled so sincerely and so widely you couldn’t help but mirror him. He linked his fingers with yours, studying your face carefully.

“Can I kiss you?”

“I would be offended if you didn’t.” You grinned, leaning towards him and kissing him on the mouth. It was a kiss of contradictions; it was all at once bruising yet tender, sweet yet lustful, soft yet passionate. One of your hands still awkwardly grasped his shirt, the other played with the hairs at the nape of his neck. Carlos’ hands didn’t seem to know where to rest so they travelled up and down your sides. Your noses brushed gently as you pulled away and you couldn’t help but smile dopily. Yet again he wore a matching expression and you rested your forehead against his.

“Hey, how come you were ruining Ben and Mal’s dates in the first place?” You asked curiously: in your mind it was the only happening left unexplained.

Carlos smiled, rolling his eyes, presumedly at himself, “I was sulking because you’d gone to visit your parents, and Ben and Mal seemed so happy and I was jealous so I-”

He didn’t finish because you started laughing. All of this was the result of Carlos’ intense moping. “I’m an idiot, aren’t I?” He sighed but there was an easy smile on his face.

“Yes you are.” You admitted as you chuckled and pulled him back towards you. You kissed him eagerly, intent on making up for lost time. You shivered, like an electrical current was surging through you, and it felt addicting.

Your love for Carlos (like his love for you) thankfully, wasn’t from a batch of enchanted cookies, or a mystical spell, but it sure felt magical.

"Two week trial"

“Two week trial" chapter 1

He came to her with two duffel bags in each paw. She was surprised to find him outside her front door so late into the evening. His fur was tattered and bristled with his eyes low and baggy, as if he had suffered a traumatic event. She glanced down to find his pants completely soaked in water. Her brow raised as her eyes trailed down the hallway of her apartment building, to find wet footprints leading up to her door.

She heard him sigh heavily. “Can I come in?”

She stepped aside, hearing his feet slosh with each step on her carpet. She cringed seeing the mud he was tracking in. Holding her tongue and ignoring the mess, she closed the door while she watch him throw his duffle bags onto her couch.

“What happened?” she asked, concerned. Nick never visits without calling her first. It was a common courtesy. He wasn’t one to come over unannounced..

“My place flooded.” he stated dryly. He sat down on her couch, utterly exhausted. “And my landlord kicked me out thinking that it was me who caused it.”

“Oh Nick, that’s horrible!” She gasped, placing a paw over her chest. She rushed over to him, sitting down beside him as he told her what happened. “One of my pipes burst when I was sleeping and I spent the whole day trying to save as much as I can, but I only managed to grab the essentials.” He said motioning to the two duffel bags. He lost everything, his furniture, his eletronics, anything that was close to the floor was ruined by the flooding. It didn’t help that his landlord automatically put the blame on him as the cause of it. Nick knew the real reason why and it was because he was a fox.

“That jerk-” Nick muttered bitterly. “It was the rusty pipes in that old building that did it!”

“I can’t believe that happened to you Nick.” She said softly, stroking his back gently in comfort. His shoulder slumped when he stared at her. A small smile appeared across his face from her kind gesture. After all he went through, he was glad to have someone like Judy. “Did you managed to save anything important?”

He grabbed one of the duffle bags, setting it down at his feet. “Just clothes, pots and pans, DVDs and some money-” he zipped it open, revealing a bush of green cash. Her eyes almost fell out of her sockets from the amount of large bills.

“Where did you get that?” She demanded. Nick put his paws up in defense from hearing her almost accuse him of theft. He knew she would never think of him as a thief, even if she did sound like she was.
“Relax, it’s my life savings from the past decade or so, it’s a good thing I kept it in my mattress.” He grinned. Judy couldn’t even fathom the idea that Nick, kept thousands of dollars underneath his mattress.

“Nick, that is so irresponsible. Why didn’t you put this in the bank?”

“Don’t trust them.” He said swiftly. She pivoted her hips to the side, crossing her arms from his nonchalant response.

“But you trust a dirty mattress?”

“If it’s mine, then yes.”

“Nick! Some animal could have mugged you on the way over here!”

“Aww.” He cooed. “Are you worried about me, Judy?” Her eyes went down in a serious glare. His ears went back from her shooting daggers. He gave her a smirk, waving it off. “Don’t worry, as you can see, nothing happened on the way over here.”

Judy sighed, rubbing her temple. “Okay, do you know where you’re going to be staying?”

Nick turned to her, scratching at his neck. “Yeah, about that….”

“What?” She tilted her head, wondering why he was acting so strange. He was giving her a larger grin than usual. Almost as if he was about to tell her a joke.

“I was hoping I can stay here?”

She blinked, followed by a scowl. “Excuse me? I already told you I am not moving in with anyone until I’m married.” She was very adamant about that fact. Moving in is a very big step in a relationship. Nick knew it all to well. While they did have overnight sleepovers (from a long night of binge watching movies) he was asking more than an overnight stay. She crossed her arms, moving her head aside. A sign Nick didn’t want to see. It meant that the conversation was over and Judy was a hard bunny to convince after. He place a paw on her shoulder, moving his head down to lock eyes with her. Judy refused to look because she knew he would be doing his classic puppy dog look.

“Please Judy!” He begged. “I’m not asking to move in, I just need a place to stay for a week or two, just until I find a new place.” She moved his muzzle to the right, trying to catch her eyes. She turned to the left, rejecting them.

“Than stay in a hotel.”

“Do you know how expensive that is in a city like Zootopia?”

She huffed. “I think you have just enough money.”

“Whiskers please! I can’t stay in a shady hotel, let me stay here with you.”

“What about your sister?”

“You’re kidding right? Her place is too small.”

Two weeks living with Nick? Who is a complete slob, a snorer, and an insomniac? He must be out of his mind. No, she would not have it. A part of her thought that she should let him stay, it was only for a while, what will it hurt? It might be even fun! They could eat together, watch movies together once they come back from work. Spending almost 24 hours with each other. In the morning, the first thing she’ll see is Nick. It would be like a dream. She shook her head, her sensible side coming in. He was a male, which was the first problem. She only has one bathroom. Sharing a bathroom might be a bit intimate. He might leave the toilet seat up. She shivered at the thought. He was always so snooty too. He might even take a peek behind her medicine cabinet. She would die if he ever did that. If he takes a shower, his fur will cover the drain. She would gag if she sees that. Yet, on the other paw, she might catch a glimpse of a clean Nick after he showered. When still wet, his fur almost looks roughish. She blushes every time to see his neck fur out of place.
She slapped herself mentally. No, she cannot be swayed. The second problem is the obvious one, he was a slob. Everytime she visited him in his apartment, he never bothered cleaning up. His floors were always dusty, the kitchen sink full of dirty dishes and the place smelled like a locker room. Her apartment was her sanctuary. She kept things in order and with Nick in the picture, it will be a dis-order. The third is the largest problem, he is her mate. A mate looking for affection. One minute they are talking and the next he is trying to flirt. His arm around her shoulder and his lips to her ears. Whispering all sorts of compliments to her, making her insides melt. He always knew what to say, which might be a problem since he is always looking for a kiss or two….sometimes three. She bit the inside of her cheek, will it really be that bad?
She glanced up at him, seeing him smile at her. Wanting to woo her over with his charms, he wiggled his eyebrows for added measure. She held back a giggle making him cheer mentally. She could never resists the eyebrows. Judy sighed, she really couldn’t turn him away, her apartment is built for two. She would feel guilty if she says no to him, after all they went through, what’s wrong with just two weeks?

She flashed him a smile. “Okay, I guess I could let you stay here.”

Nick gave her a wink, smirking for having won. “I knew I can count on you, Whiskers.”

“But since you’re going to bum around here-”

“Bum?” His face fell, losing his confident smirk. “Isn’t that a bit harsh?” Judy placed a finger on his chest, leaning in. He stared at her as she gave him a mischievous grin, before finally responding in a low and cruel whisper.

“You have to pay half of the rent.”

He frowned, unamused. “After everything I went through, your making me pay half of the rent?” She nodded. His lips move to a respectful smile. “I think I’m finally rubbing off on you.”

“I suppose.” She said, acting unimpressed before letting out a giggle. He grabbed a handful of money from his duffle bag, placing it in her open paw.

“You’re worse than my landlord.” he teased, pressing the tip of his nose against her soft pink one. She pulled away giving him a happy grin.

“But you still love me-” she pointed out.

“I suppose.” He muttered pretending not to care. She punched him in the shoulder making him chuckle.

“Well, since you’re going to be staying, I’m going out to get groceries. I have to cook for two now.” She looped the purse over her shoulder, stuffing the was full of money inside it as she walked to her door. Nick followed. Before Judy could open the door, she felt Nick wrap his arms around her waist. She paused when she felt his chin on her shoulder, a blush forming.

“You’re making dinner for me? Great! Pick me up some fried crickets.”

Her nose recoiled. “Ew no way, plus that’s really unhealthy, all you eat is fast food. No, I’m going to make you dinner and you’ll love it, I promise!” She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek, pulling away. He frowned as his arms became empty, watching Judy wave goodbye as she closed the door behind her. His arms slumped down, he was hoping to at least spend a little “quality” time with her.

He grabbed his second duffle bag, going into her kitchen. It was time to make himself more at home. He took out his burned pots and pans, opening her lower cabinet doors and placing them besides her shiny ones. He went around towards her coat closet, he knows she only kept her spare sheets there, leaving the rest of the spare space to put his shirts and pants in. He didn’t bother hanging them, he threw them inside in a large pile and shut the door. He emptied out his DVDs, placing them on top of her television, setting them up as two towers. It looked out of place since Judy kept her DVDs on a large shelf beside the television, kept behind a glass door. After tossing his bag off to the side he decided it’s the right time for him to change out of his wet clothes and take a shower.

Judy was carrying bags full of food, the most she had ever gotten. She held a large grin, skipping along the hall to her door. She was excited on cooking for someone other than herself. She usually ate by herself, it was bit lonely at times. Sitting in silence and watching a bit of tv but with Nick, she wouldn’t have to worry about being alone. She popped open the door.

“Nick! Can you help me with the bags?” She called, kicking the door close behind her.

“Sure thing cottontail.” Nick said coming to her rescue. She smiled looking up as he took half of the bags.

“Oh thank you I was-!” She stopped mid-sentence when she saw what he was wearing. He was wearing a bright red, loose t-shirt and black slacks. She had never seen him wear those type of clothes before. She was so used to his cheesy green Hawaiian shirts, she never thought he had any other type of clothes. She also noticed that Nick’s was glistening from how wet his fur was.

She blushed lightly. “You cleaned up nice.”

“You like it?” He asked coyly, raising his eyebrows. “It was the only clean clothes I had, the rest is hard and crusty from the water.”

“Ew!”

“So I shoved them in your washer.”

“My washer?” She gasped, dropping the groceries. Her own clothes were in there. “What about my clothes?”

“I just put them together, I thought you wouldn’t mind.”

“Oh Nick no!” She rushed down the hall, towards a set of laundry doors at the left side of the wall. Nick cocked a brow as he peeked down the hall.

“What? They were dirty right? Consider it my good deed of the day.”

“I had only whites in there! The colors are going to mix!” Her eyes widened as the washer stopped. It buzzed loudly as a red light flashed on the controls signaling that it was done. She threw open the door. Her ears lowered when she took out her favorite white blouse, which was now light green from Nick’s shirts. Her white socks, pants and shirts-ruined. Stained with blotches of green. Her ears lowered and her mouth moves into a hard scowl. Nick slowly retreated back in the kitchen. This was going to be a long two weeks.

I realized that people are getting confused with the name change, this is the “sleep over” 5 chapter long story but there is another story with that name and with a similar “plot”. So to avoid confusion I changed the title.
I do hope you all enjoy this ^_^
This is unedited and many of you wanted to read it.
