I had been invited to a barbecue with The boys and their girlfriends. Granted I felt a little out of place not being a girlfriend of anyone. However, I also felt nice that Louis had invited me. I hoped it might be slight proof that he had a thing for me. Zayn and Gigi were here as well, and it was nice to see all the boys interacting and laughing.
“Mind if I sit here,” it was Louis, asking for the seat next to mine.
“No that’s fine,” I smiled genuinely happy to be next to him. He’d just come from grilling so he had a plate of hot dogs and Burgers. He placed them on the picnik table in front of us.
As we talked, Louis put his arm around my shoulders. I felt myself tense. I looked at him, to gauge what it meant, but he’d already turned his head to laugh at Niall’s joke. I bravely moved in closer. Louis turned and smiled at me. Our sides and thighs were now touching, and I felt giddy with nerves and happiness.
“Oh, thank God,” Zayn said as he took a look at us.
“What?” I asked confusedly.
“You two are finally together, it’s about time. I remember when we were touring Louis would go on and on about you,” Zayn laughed.
Louis was stiff beside me. His cheeks were and adorable pink color. I didn’t know what to think. I felt a grin crossing my face.
“I mean we all love you y/n, but it was getting old hearing over and over how amazing you are.”
Louis was making a slashing motion across his throat. Niall was coughing and Liam was nudging Zayn.
“What?” Zayn laughed. “It’s not like it isn’t true.” Zayn then put on a voice that was meant to sound like Louis, “y/n’s fooking amazing. Did you see how pretty she looked in that dress. She so smart. The other day y/n was playing with her puppy she looked so adorable. Guess what y/n said to me-”
“Zayn!” Louis said sharply.
“What I-” Zayn’s smile faltered.
“So, you haven’t told her yet?” Zayn guessed.
“I gotta check the grill,” Louis said quickly. He jumped up and hastily walked over to the grill.
“Goodness, mate,” Niall laughed awkwardly.
“Hey, I’m not in the band anymore, I don’t know what’s going on,” Zayn said with hands raised in defense.
“Okay, but read a situation,” Liam chuckled.
“Sorry y/n, that must’ve been awkward,” Zayn said ashamedly.
“It’s fine Zayn, because I like him too, and I’m going to go tell him,” I said decidedly. The boys and their girlfriends all grinned and encouraged me as I got up from the table.
“Lou,” I said gently, touching his back.
“Oh, hi y/n,” Louis said avoiding my eyes.
“So about what Zayn was saying,” I said slowly. Louis finally turned to me.
“Forget about it,” he ran his hand through his hair. “We don’t have to let it change anything.”
“No,” I laughed grabbing his hand. “I want something to change, because honestly, I’m mad for you too.”
Louis’s smile at that moment could’ve lit up the entire world. He pulled me into a huge hug. I sighed happily and clung to him.
“So, can I kiss you?” Louis asked quietly.
“Of course,” I said with a bright smile. He pulled me and gently kissed me. I wrapped my arms around his neck contentedly. When we separated we heard cheers from Zayn and the rest of his band mates. I grinned, and Louis threw his head back with laughter.
