and of bonds and connections

Keith and Lance’s Blue Lion Connection Theory

The first lion Keith was attracted to

Was the blue lion

Which happens to have the strongest bond/connection with Lance

And look

Those two people standing in front of the blue lion is Lance and Keith.

AND LOOK AT THESE CAVE PAINTINGS

THEY’RE SO SIMILAR TO THE ACTUAL EVENT AREN’T THEY?

What if Lance was meant to pilot the lion, but Keith also has some sort of connection to it too? He felt an energy telling him to search, but Lance had the official bond.

Keith was questioning Coran about the lion in season two, he was wondering how it had gotten to Earth and if a Galra had possibly piloted it. COULD THAT BE TRUE, AND COULD THE PILOT HAVE BEEN RELATED TO KEITH WHICH IS WHY HE FELT AN ENERGY TOWARDS IT?

And look at when Keith approaches the lion before Lance…UMMM

WHAT?? TELL ME THAT DOESN’T MEAN SOMETHING.

IS IT POSSIBLE THAT TWO PEOPLE COULD BE TIED TO THE BLUE LION????

WERE LANCE AND KEITH MEANT TO FIND THE LION TOGETHER JUST LIKE THE CAVE PAINTINGS SAID??? Keith felt the energy which led them to that spot and Lance’s connection led them to retrieving the lion, which is what started Voltron in the first place.

Ways I could see klance realistically playing out in Voltron:

• increased compliments about each other; Lance talks to people about how cool Keith is, Keith talks to people about how awesome Lance is
• a scene where Keith rescues Lance from Galra or something, and Lance says “I was hoping it would be you”
• more bonding moment revisits, aka just small connections they make to each other that one or the other immediately pretends not to remember
• at least one hurt/comfort scene
• being stuck to work together, and then somehow working REALLY REALLY WELL TOGETHER to the point where now they just automatically go to each other whenever there’s teamwork needed, even if they aren’t stuck with each other
• a lot of playful banter/insults, but with more smiling thrown in as the seasons progress
• Worrying™ when the other is in the tiniest kind of danger
• jealousy when the other seems to be hitting it off well with some alien
• the rest of team voltron starts referring to them as a pair; “have you seen Keith and Lance?” “I was talking to Lance and Keith and…”

AHHHHHHH I HAVEN’T DRAWN CROSSOVERS IN A LONG TIME, BUT ALL THE OUTFITS IN NIER: AUTOMATA HAS ME SHOOK *____* I STILL GOTTA BUY/PLAY IT BUT I LOVE THE OUTFITS SO MUCH.  When i watched the beginning being played and 9S showed up, he reminded me of Roxas and then i started thinking about Xion in 2B’s oufit and then this happened. If y’all recognise the blades they hold, cookies for you 8D

HOPE YALL LIKE IT!! ♥

Okay but consider a Mass Effect Andromeda where the Ryder family stays whole. Alec doesn’t die, the second Ryder twin doesn’t end up in a coma.

Imagine Pathfinder Alec Ryder getting to actually be a pathfinder, but also having to cope with his two children who are both canonically huge dorks.

Consider Alec trying to be diplomatic while his two grown ass children are behind him getting into a silent slap fight over who gets to ride shotgun in the nomad.

Consider Alec “so emotionally constipated he’s shitting out diamonds” Ryder having to deal with Jaal “I’ve known you for ten seconds let’s talk about our feelings because the angaran social filter is nothing like yours” Ama Darav.

Consider Alec having to constantly put himself between Reyes and whichever offspring has come with him because the guy will not stop flirting and this man is a criminal and we only need him for his connections, stop winking back.

Imagine Alec bonding with Evfra over the difficulties of leadership in an impossible situation, and having the lives of an entire species depending on your success.

Now imagine that scene but it keeps cutting to Scott and Sara daring each other to eat the weird alien food.

Drak offering Alec parenting advice!!!!!

Alec putting Peebee in time out until she can behave herself.

Alec putting on his Parent Voice when Gil and Kallo fight – it’s not even on purpose, they just sound so much like bickering children.

Alec having to deal with the fallout from the disastrous beginnings of the initiative – would fewer people attack him to his face? He’s certainly a lot scarier and a lot more intimidating than the canon pathfinder is.

Imagine Alec walking in on one or both of his children making out with their love interest. Imagine that ride on the Nomad.

Jaal trying to talk to Alec about it to reassure him of the true depth of feelings he has for Sara but Alec Does Not Want To Have This Conversation. Cora loves Scott but oh god she’s sleeping with her mentor’s son and he knows but he isn’t saying anything why isn’t he saying anything.  Liam practically climbing under the table whenever Alec enters the room because he’s sure his boss is going to space him for making out with his daughter.

Sahuna Ama Darav emailing Alec because “we’re going to be inlaws let’s talk about medical histories and plans for grandchildren!!!”

February Horoscopes

ARIES: Take a nice, firm grab of the dial that controls your aggressiveness and crank it way down. You can relax a little bit and still be able to defend yourself (this of course does not apply if someone crosses the line, then you have every right to be as aggressive as you’d like (however maybe the line needs to be redrawn because you have a tendency to get upset over very small things)). Don’t forget to breathe every once in a while. Things can work themselves out without you getting worked up.

TAURUS: Remember that not everyone is out to get you, Taurus. Yes, there are people in this world with bad intentions, but that doesn’t mean you can just push someone away because you’re suspicious of them. Talk to those individuals. Don’t jump to conclusions and assume that they aren’t good people; you might lose someone who really only ever wanted what was best for you.

GEMINI: Time to take a pair of metaphorical scissors and snip the negativity out of your life! If you know someone is dragging you down rather than supporting you and building you up, say sayonara!

CANCER: You know that thing that you want to do but you might be too afraid to do? Do it. All experiences, good or bad, are still experiences. Take a risk every now and then! Ask that person out! Put your application in! You can do it.

LEO: Try looking at things a new way this month, Leo. You might be in the midst of a problem or you might be trying to reach a goal you’ve set, and things are just not working out no matter how hard you try. Take a step back and try a new route. Do something different if what you’re doing right now isn’t making you successful.

VIRGO: You may not be meeting all of your own expectations right now, and that’s okay. This month focus on persisting through your troubles. Keep your chin up, Virgo. Good things are on their way.

LIBRA: Libra, you sort of have a tendency to be very good at picking out problems and flaws, and then doing nothing about them. Take a stand and start fixing things that you don’t like, whether it be with the world or within yourself. Email your senator. Attend a march. Donate money. Accept criticism. You can literally do anything that you think you can do.

SCORPIO: This month remember that not all relationships that you create have to be romantic. Creating a bond or a connection with another individual does not mean that by default that you have to be in love with that person. Cherish your friends and don’t focus on romance at the moment.

SAGITTARIUS: Embrace your emotions this month. If you need to cry, then cry. If you need to scream, then scream. If you need someone to talk to, then find someone you can trust. Do not ever be ashamed of the way you feel.

CAPRICORN: Decisiveness is key. You may find yourself unable to choose between this and that, but you have to learn to make tough decisions, especially under pressure. Don’t let a decision keep you up at night. Do what you feel is right and good is bound to come of it.

AQUARIUS: Seek out some counsel this February. There are plenty of people in your circle willing to listen to you, you just have to speak. Focus on your needs instead of everyone else’s. You are a wonderful listener, and now it’s your turn to be listened to.

PISCES: Break out of your shell a little bit this month. You don’t have to do anything insanely drastic, but maybe inviting someone new over for a movie, or simply messaging someone you’ve never talked to before to get to know them. You have a very intriguing air about you, Pisces, and whether you believe it or not people do want to be your friend.

“Taking Flight” Theory

So I’ve always had an interesting thought about this episode

That maybe it could be a metaphor? It didn’t just have to do with the castle literally taking flight for the first time

So in this episode Pidge revealed that she was a girl to the team

This allowed her to accept herself for who she really is, instead of hiding behind someone she’s not. It also must have took a lot of confidence for her to do this, but the fact that she went through with telling them, means she gained a new found confidence, allowing her to take another step forward in her life.

She metaphorically took flight in this way.

Then there’s Keith

So we know that before this episode took place, we had the classic and famous bonding moment

Here Keith had a one on one connection with Lance, something that I’m sure he’s never had with someone before (other than Shiro.) Meaning this moment was very important to him, here he went through an experience with someone that he’s never had.

This must have made Lance special to him in his eyes, his first bond with someone, especially a person he usually doesn’t get a long with. I can only imagine this affected him so much on a personal level, but also on an emotional level too.

When you experience something with someone that you’ve never had before, isn’t it safe to say that this is how you develop feelings for this person? This is only six episodes in, Keith has never had this. This is where his own feelings take flight.

That’s portrayed in the next episode in literally the first scene

Keith acting impatient, wanting Lance to come out is pretty much portraying those feelings. Remember, the bonding moment was very important for him. I can’t even imagine how excited he probably was for Lance to come out so that they could continue this new relationship. Except Keith’s pretty abrasive, so that’s probably why his excitement was portrayed this way.

He wants Lance to come out so that they can start where they left off and grow closer on a personal and emotional level. He feels closer to Lance here, we are literally seeing his feelings for him take off.

(Not to mention the fact that he was the longest to leave the pod when they all left to go look at their clocks, and I think the creators set up that scene on purpose just to portray how close he feels to Lance now, and that he doesn’t want to leave his side.)

If you remember in season two, this is how Keith was acting when Shiro was in the healing pod

He’s calm, he’s composed, he isn’t impatient and he doesn’t seem very worried

This clearly shows the difference in how he feels about them, Lance is able to make Keith act this way because of the events that occurred before and how those new feelings impacted him. He’s already used to Shiro, he knows him, he has no doubt that he’ll heal fast and get better soon. He doesn’t have to worry or be impatient.

He’s still by his side because he’s close to him, but not in the way that he was with Lance.

His feelings are also clearly portrayed in this moment with Lance, after he comes out of the pod

Lance flirts with Allura, everyone says their comments and then at the very end we hear Keith say “Classic.” and other than Allura he isn’t even looking at Lance (he’s also the farthest away from the group). This is a clear as glass portrayal of jealousy, he is jealous that Lance notices Allura and not him, that their bonding moment is clearly not important to him right now.

Then Lance forgets the moment (which I’m sure he didn’t) and Keith does this

This is literally the face of rejection, Lance forgets an important moment between the both of them, a moment where he most likely started developing feelings for him. It’s really no surprise why he would act like this. But I feel like this moment was purposeful too, because it would have been way too early for anything to happen or start between them anyways.

Except, in season two we got a pretty clear indication that Lance most definitely cares about Keith, even if he doesn’t express it around him. So maybe once he stops flirting with Allura and all of those other girls and literally looks at what’s right in front of him, maybe then he’ll finally find what he’s looking for?

anonymous asked:

What are soul ties? Do you believe in it?

Imagine if you could see the spirit/vibes of the person you are most intimate with would you still lay with them? Would they make it past hello? This is why it’s important to know who you are dealing with beforehand and really dedicate time communicating with them. Because having a soul tie to the wrong soul could literally ruin your life. It’s an exchange of energy. Have you ever noticed that after a while, when you are intimate with someone, you start picking up their characteristics, you start using their slang and terminologies and your perspective and outlook on life may change too - some could argue that this is the result of an influence too and that is true. But look, for example, if you’re naturally a vibrant person, but you’re intimate with someone who vibrates in a lower state, you may find yourself becoming sad and negative all the time, and in exchange, they become happy and more full of life. Even years after the relationship is over, people still feel a strong connection to old flames, even if it wasn’t a positive situation.

It is said that extremely promiscuous people are often very sad and people often correlate this to the number of souls that they have exchanged with. Who knows? Sex isn’t a shameful thing and we should enjoy it with whoever we want, but energy exists and soul ties are real.

However, On the positive side. When you have a soul tie with the right person, it can almost feel like you’ve met your other half - they almost complete you and make life seem like it’s no longer a journey you’re taking alone. No one can explain the strength of a soul tie bond, but due to this spiritual connection, you both can thrive and reciprocate true love and devotion.. so yeah. Just be careful.
The question is not ‘if we argue’ but ‘how do we argue?’ In relationships, romantic and otherwise, we must not see the person as the opponent, but, rather, the problem as the opponent. We must fight together to resolve it - from the same side. We must not hold grudges. And we must stop seeing each other as easily expendable. For life is full of compatible people, but there will be disagreements with all of them. It is in forging the bonds stronger than these disagreements that we find a deeper connection.
—  How do you fight? / Just for thought

a common theme in arakawa’s writing of fmab is about choosing life over death, how sacrifice is meaningless, and how each human life is valuable and worth a lot. when we’re introduced to the ingredients of a philosopher’s stone, human lives, it puts that theme into action. we learn from envy during the gluttony’s stomach arc that the souls that are placed into philosopher’s stones are reduced to mere energy. they don’t remember what they look like nor their memories. but .. that doesn’t seem right.

when ed faces envy in his monster form, he hears the voices of those souls crying out things such as “kill me,” “help me,” “give me back my son,” and of course the one that makes ed freeze in place, “big brother, wanna play?”

if these souls were reduced to energy, then how are they still crying out, showing emotions, feeling pain, and calling out to their loved ones?

ed questions this himself when he fights envy. he hesitates because the possibility that these souls can still think, exist, and talk is horrifying to him. they’re trapped inside envy with nowhere to go forever, possibly going insane for being in there so long and begging ed to kill them because it’s better than knowing you won’t ever have a body or be truly human ever again.

envy tells ed that you need to use logic instead of emotions if you are to determine what a human is, but arakawa teaches us in that moment that it’s okay to think with your emotions, that sometimes thinking with your emotions solves problems better than using logic.

hohenheim is a great example of this. he was forced to live with over 500,000 souls trapped inside his body, but unlike father, he actually talked to the people that resided within him. he learned their names, their likes, dislikes. this goes to show that no, the people trapped in those philosopher’s stones were NOT just reduced to energy. they still had their minds even if they didn’t have their bodies, because THINKING and FEELING is what TRULY makes you human, not what you look like.

understanding the seven deadly sins is understanding humanity. father’s downfall was that he severed all those emotions from himself; he didn’t feel emotions towards humans or the people trapped in his stone and couldn’t care less about them, never trying to talk to them or create bonds or connections with them. he saw himself as a higher being when in reality he was just a simple human who thought removing his emotions would make him stronger.

the citizens of xerxes still remember who they were when they were alive and the people whom they loved. when father gives them bodies for the first time, they still remember hohenheim and how their lives once were, and they are thrilled to walk again.

we learn from winry that being trapped in a philosopher’s stone is painful and feels like being in a prison. the citizens of xerxes in envy’s body would rather be dead than trapped, and when ed uses envy’s philosopher stone to get out of gluttony’s stomach, the souls THANK him.

they are not just reduced energy. ed was right when he had a gut feeling that those people trapped in the stone were still human like his brother and could still think and feel, even if they didn’t have physical bodies. he and his brother still recognized them as people. he hesitates when he has to shoot them.

he has to face this reality again when he fights the immortal legion, soldiers who’ve had souls placed in their bodies, minds possibly manipulated to attack other people, and ed hesitates once again.

envy told ed that you can’t use your emotions to decide, but it was envy in the end who was wrong. he didn’t understand human emotions nor bonds just like the rest of the homunculi. they looked down on people and just saw all the souls trapped in stone as mere energy instead of humans with emotions. they lost the fight because they underestimated the power of what people can do when they work together. it’s okay to think and decide based on your emotions, because it’s just another trait that makes all of us human, another trait that helps us form bonds with one another.

I think the best thing about Keith and Lance is that these two hated each other in the beginning of the show

But slowly as it went on, even though they still didn’t agree with everything that they did and they still had some arguments, you can tell that they started to care more about each other

Look at Keith being concerned for Lance

(I can’t get over this part, he was so impatient for him to come out because he wanted him to heal so badly)

And look at Lance after he found out that the Red lion was attacking the base in the Blade of Marmora episode, he knew Keith was possibly in danger and he looked so concerned for him

(Especially the way he says “Allura?” too)

Lance and Keith’s relationship is slowly progressing as the seasons go on, and I personally think that it will be the most valid in season three now that Shiro’s gone.

Shiro was always the one that came between them so that they would stop fighting. Now that he’s gone and they’re probably going to have to find him, they’re going to need to work together (not just as teammates but as friends/acquaintances too).

Their relationship was set up to reach this point, rivals at first, but when they both lose something important to them, their bond/connection/team work matters now more than ever.

We already know that they actually are a pretty decent team when they want to be

(Getting out of that elevator together)

(Going on missions)

And there are so many more moments, but now it goes beyond Voltron and it’s a matter of can they work together as Lance and Keith, and not just as Lance and Keith the paladins.

That’s going to be the ultimate test, but I personally think they can it’s just a matter of how and when. They’re going to be very important to each other in season three, I can tell.

Sun thru the Houses

1H: the first house is the house of the self, and because the sun is representative of the self as well, this is a very healthy position for the sun to be in. this shows the type of person that is meant to put themselves out into the world, and to have a lasting impact on others. the sense of self is most likely pretty strong and associated with the aries archetype, since this is the natural ruler of the 1st house, and mars. this can give the chart holder a warrior like personality, one that must always be more forceful, assertive and able to stand up for themselves. they usually approach life with much vitality, strength and enthusiasm. these people must be appreciated, noticed and acknowledged for who they are. there is a strong desire to feel important and wanted as well, it is important to not let yourself become a tyrannical figure though, as that can be something common and associated with this placement of the sun.

2H: the second house is the house of worth and value, also security and possessions - physical possessions. with the planet of one’s vitality, self expression and ego coming in here, it lights up the part of us that needs to develop outer security and what one values. it is important for these people to learn what gives them a sense of security and fulfillment and not have to be dependent to find it through others, like their opposing 8th house represents. security would typically come through strengthening the ego and self, because that is what the sun itself represents. the individual with this placement must feel secure with themselves, so even if outer security is missing, they will feel an overall safety with life.

3H: the third house is the house of communications, knowledge, speech, and siblings. with the ego and self lighting up this house, the sense of self is derived from what this person knows. they must feel honorable about their own thoughts to feel a sense of purpose in life. they also must feel like they have been heard by others, nothing could be more sad than a third house sun person that is constantly ignored or feels ignored (perhaps if mercury is in the 12th house). these people are hardly ever satisfied with what they know, and are always looking to learn more, their hunger for knowledge is insatiable. there is always a need for this person to get their point or words across to others; through verbal speaking or the written word as well. there could be a talent or mastery of language.

4H: the fourth house is the house of where we came from, our roots, home, family, mother/parents, the deeper part of the psyche, what makes us feel safe, secure and at home. with the planet of the ego and vitality here, the person must feel honorable in the home environment; there is a need for the home to stable in order for this person to shine. imbalances in this environment can severely hurt or impact the chart holder, never to be forgotten. there can be a tendency to over identify with the family and not give yourself the chance to branch off and create a separate identity in your own life. it’s common for this person to have been an only child - the center of the parents’ universe, worshiped by the parents even. creative energy may be mustered up in the home environment.

5H: the fifth house is the natural ruler of leo and is ruled by the sun, so this is seen as a very healthy place for the sun to be in and shine to it’s fullest extent. the fifth house rules leisure, pleasure, romance, casual sex, gambling, risk taking, the general sense of fun, although that is something very subjective and personal to everyone. with the sun here, the person must feel honorable in what gives them a sense of pleasure and leisure. these two things are what the chart holder holds very highly and strongly values. there may be a strong creative force in the individual. the involvement of romance, fun or any theme falling in the fifth house enhances the chance of this person being a participant. however, there can be a need to always be the center of attention as well, especially when endeavoring these “fun” activities.

6H: the sixth house is the house of labor, daily routine and health. with the planet of the ego and vitality, there is a tendency for the overall sense of self to derive from work/service and one’s own general health. there is a need and constant motivational factor of improving the self and finding ways to be better at what ever it is they do. self imperfections or insecurities are always heightened here, because the ruling sign of this house, virgo, is highly critical and picky, especially of themselves. there is always room for improvement and fixing everything to it’s best ability, virgo believes. since this house rules one’s general health, with the sun here the individual must have a respectable relationship & honor their own body. there can be self-neglect because of the primary focus being of service to everything else but themselves. the sun here must learn to efficiently balance out their daily life and the self, realizing there can be nothing without their self anyway.

7H: the seventh house is the house of others, partnerships, marriage, open enemies. with the sense of self, ego and vitality coming to light up this house, the person must feel honorable in their relationships with others. however there is a common tendency to have a poor sense of self and vitality because the ego is so closely associated with others, rather than the self. they find themselves through others. relationships and partnerships or social interaction of any kind give them subtle clues to who they are more so than when they are on their own. this can be the type of person that does not ever want to be alone by choice, because of this fear of feeling completely lost within the self. it is true though, that they do need to be involved with people or others in some way.

8H: the eighth house is the house of privacy, intimacy, transformation and the occult. the sun represents the self, vitality and ego, so naturally when this comes into the eighth house, the ego and self seek personal transformation through acts of intimacy, occult studies or pushing themselves extremely hard to test their limits in life, and possibly find a sense of rebirth through doing so. this person pretty much yearns to feel emotionally connected to and bonded with something, there is an extremely intimate outlook on life. everything is profound in the eighth house, this person can be extremely wise and insightful because of their deep, complex dynamic make up, mostly because of their fascination with all things that are hidden from the public’s eye, their investigation of the inner workings of the self and others, as well as rather taboo subjects, can pay off rather well.

9H: the ninth house is the house of beliefs, higher knowledge, travel, foreign lands, and philosophy. with the sun, ruler of the personality, ego and one’s own vitality, there is usually an experimental nature towards one’s own belief systems - the individual can usually try out many throughout their life, until one fits their personal moral system the best, and which they must find honorable enough to expand and grow from. the individual with the sun here may view life as a voyage, a soul search or some type of pilgrimage. this person can be very concerned with the bigger picture and tend to neglect the finer details to their life. there can be an eternal wanderlust and desire to constantly grow internally and mentally; these are very acquisitive people. this is a common placement indicating visionaries, gurus, religious figures, spiritual practitioners. the self is designed to find inspiration through growing and developing the self more, and passing this inspiration on to others through their own beliefs and knowledge, as well as life experience.

10H: the tenth house is the house of one’s reputation, how one is perceived through the public eye, the persona, the career and one’s achievements. when the planet of one’s ego and personality, also vitality comes in the 10th house, there is a strong desire to be admired by others and recognized as someone. the sign of the sun specifically will give more clues to what it is exactly the person wants to be admired for. there must be an honorable relationship with one’s professional achievements and reputation. there can be a dependence on a parental figure for acknowledgment, or an inheritance to enhance the chances of acknowledgment. the person with sun in the tenth may over identify with tenth house matters and have a hard time forming a separate identity with any other part of themselves.

11H: the eleventh house is the house of social groups/dynamics, organizations, clubs, society, humanitarianism. when the planet of one’s identity and self comes in this house, there is a direct association of the self with whatever they are associated with. there can be direct association between the self and friend group, this is who they are. or what cause they believe strongly in. this person may be vastly involved in many different groups or organizations, and an interest in spreading their knowledge. the identity here is strongly linked to a higher cause than themselves. the self worth, worst case scenario, is derived from groups or friendships. relationships with friends, groups and organizations must be felt as honorable and secure through the individual with this placement.

12H: the twelfth house is the hardest house to describe because we do not truly know what is in there…generally it’s the house of the subconscious mind, the “back of the brain” where things are not commonly thought about or acknowledged, or seen. its the house of dreams, mysteries, escapism, illusions, sensitivity, spirituality…everything. it’s where things go to dissipate. it represents the things that are hidden from us, as opposed to the things we hide from others - it’s entirely unconscious in it’s workings, and extremely hard to describe or pin down accurately. with the planet of the ego, personality and vitality coming into neptune’s domain, the ego is washed away and dissolved. the boundaries between the self and outer world are extremely thin, these people are very sensitive to energy. the conflicting aspect of this placement is that the twelfth house is the furthest house from the conscious mind, and the sun itself is an extremely conscious energy. the individual with sun in the twelfth must learn to properly blend the workings of the spiritual realm and the things that cannot be seen, with the outer, more tangible realm. the ego is comfortable in spiritual practice, solitude and being of service to others. there is a fear of others not accepting them for who they are, so its more often than not that the individual with the sun here hides themselves from others and only comes out when alone. the sun here is easily tainted and colored by other energies and is felt the strongest when alone or secluded from others or things that may drain its energy. the sense of self is fogged and blurred by neptune. the ego must feel honorable in it’s spiritual views, acts of service and time alone. the uncertainty of the self that these people feel is what causes them to fall into the depths of depression or sadness. they can feel overwhelming guilt just for being who they are and expressing themselves, because there is some obligation they have to be there for others, and avoid ever being seen or felt as selfish.

**afflictions of the sun must be taken into consideration as well, as that can severely alter some of these characteristics.

What are Keith’s Powers?

OK so in the first episode of both seasons (which I don’t think is a coincidence) we saw that Keith had a pull towards the Blue Lion

And that he was able to pilot the Black Lion momentarily

But he’s also the main pilot of the Red Lion

And as we all know, overall Keith has the strongest connection/bond with Red by far.

So if Keith has been able to communicate with three lions, it’s most likely that he’ll also have a pull towards the other two lions in the future as well. But if you put the facts together, he has the strongest bond with Red because the lion is meant for him, but he also has some sort of connection with the Blue and Black Lion. And what do all of those lions have in common? Quintessence.

If you remember in season one, Allura claimed that each paladin pilots a lion whose Quintessence mirrors their own and that creates a mystical bond that cannot be explained between the paladin and the lion.

What if Keith has a rare form of Quintessence that is able to allow him to have a connection or feel with more than one lion instead of just one?

It’s almost like both of the lions are able to speak to him and he is able to speak to them as well just like to their original paladins (except for Red in the beginning of course)

That means he could possibly have a strong, rare quintessence that he has not yet discovered, unlocked, or even realized yet, but is developing further as the show goes a long. Once it is revealed though, I feel like it will be very important to the team.

Okay, I fully understand everyone’s excitement over the ring-exchange and engagement, but please don’t mock or dismiss Yuuri calling it a “lucky charm”.

Not only were those his honest and sincere feelings, but omamori are more than mere “lucky charms”, they’re a huge part of Japanese culture, and Japanese religion, with very profound meaning, so mocking that is actually incredibly rude, and highly culturally insensitive.

Traditionally, Japanese omamori look like this

and can be bought at most shrines and temples in Japan. I’d actually say they’re closer to “prayers” than “lucky charms”, really, in their intent, though that doesn’t quite fit, either. But when you know that the most common omamori are for things like safety in traffic, doing well in school, having romantic encounters, and fertility/safely born children (used both by couples who want kids, and expecting mothers hoping for no complications with their pregnancy), you probably see what I mean.

The word omamori translates roughly to protector/protection/protective charm, and are based on the animistic Shinto world view. The ones you get at shrines are part supplication that the enshrined deity will bless and protect you, and part a… hmm, almost a signal beacon? so said deity can find you, to know that you’re someone under their protection. And also part comfort for the carrier, that they’re not alone, that they’ve got someone on their side.

But it’s not just “official” deities that are considered to have protective powers. Your ancestors are also seen sort of as guardian spirits protecting their family line (common theme in East Asian religions - Mulan, anyone? - at least, and I think also in all animistic religions, though that’s not my area of expertise), and even such ambiguous things as strong emotions are seen to have protective and blessing properties, especially love and affection.

For this reason, a lot of people will use mementos or objects of sentimental value as omamori. Either because it reminds them of a particular person or situation or emotion, or because they see some kind of link between that particular object and whatever they seek blessings for/protection against.

The important part for Yuuri, and why he bought that ring, is less that it’s a wedding ring, and more that it’s a gold ring. Yes, emphasis on both gold and ring.

The gold part is obvious, because the blessing he wants is help in getting a gold medal. It’s a resonance/like-brings-like thing.

The ring part is more obscure, but I’ll try to explain it.

One of the most basic and important parts of Japanese culture and society is the idea of 縁 (en). If you look it up in a Japanese-English dictionary, you get words like fate, destiny, chance, a relationship, a connection, a bond, an affinity, and while those are all ways to translate the word, depending on context, they don’t really explain the concept. En is the meeting of two or more things/beings that leaves a lasting connection or bond.

You might say you don’t have en with money to indicate that you can never seem to amass any wealth. It’s less you’ve got no luck with money, but more that you and money were never meant to be. You might earn it, but it still doesn’t stick around, somehow. An omamori for romance is called an enmusubi, or a “tier of en/bonds”, in this case referring to interpersonal relationships.

If you’re saying goodbye to someone you don’t know whether you’ll ever see again, you might express a wish that you’ll have en, and be able to meet again.

Now, I’ve mentioned in previous posts that the Japanese love homonyms and word associations. This is even more true for en, because it’s so important to them. Like in the example of a farewell, you might give someone a five yen coin, because five yen is go-en (五円), and when speaking of en with an honorific, that’s also go-en (ご縁). It’s a physical manifestation of your wish to have en with them. This is also why five yen coins are generally considered the best coins to give as offerings when you pray for something, despite their low value, because it indicates a hope for en with your wish.

Okay, getting to the point now: Another homonym (well, technically the same one, but different usage) for en is the word for circle or round. And because that’s basically what a ring is, rings are often used as a metaphor for, or an expression of a wish for en. So rings generally have a more profound level of meaning in Japanese.

It’s a gold ring because Yuuri wishes to have en with gold medals. He gives it to Victor because he wishes to have en with him.

He spent the whole day looking for something. He said he’d desperately wanted an omamori for a long time. He’s embarrassed, because yes, it’s a goddamn wedding ring, and he’s very aware of that, and giving rings to someone, period, is not something a Japanese person does lightly. It’s a very meaningful act, and this omamori is very important to Yuuri, so going “lol, lucky charm, yeah right” is incredibly disrespectful.
