The great thing about what we do, any art, is anybody can read into it what they want to take from it. - Katie McGrath

Sometimes I make shitty memes even shittier. I’ve been freaking out cause of the ch 129 spoilers so here’s my contribution to the discourse. Unlike Sebastian though, I already love both ciels.

While I am always glad to see people recasting Padmé and Leia as Asian women, black women, Latina women, Pacific Islander women, and so on, and I understand why people recast these characters, there’s always a part of me that feels something isn’t right when the recast is not Jewish women. Both of these characters are played by Jewish women, and it always feels to me that a recast of any type should be Jewish women.

And, to address it before it is brought up, black Jewish women exist (Kat Graham, Lisa Bonet, Kali Hawk), Latina Jewish women exist (Rachel Ticotin, Veronica Schneider), Asian Jewish women (Karen David, Romi Dames) exist.

When I look at these things, it often makes me question if I’m looking at something that says that Jewish people aren’t a minority. This isn’t even touching onto Jewishness as an ethnicity or Jewish people as conditionally white, two things that I am not remotely able to speak about as someone who is not Jewish (I’m a Catholic of Filipino descent). Yet, it always feels off to me.

Reign: Who. Is. That.

Kara: That… That is Lena Luthor.

Reign: Lena Luthor. Stunning. I like her.

Kara: What? You haven’t even met-

Reign: I’d love to meet her. Is she… what do you call it? Unattached?

Kara: Unattached? Lena? Yeah, she’s, she’s single… No! No, no, no she’s… she’s actually seeing someone.

Reign: She is?

Kara: Me.

Reign: You?

Kara: … Yes. Uh huh. Happily… happily… attached… to me. Hey, quick, lets go over here and see these important things in this direction-

Reign: Oh, look, she’s coming over! Your lady. Won’t you introduce me?
