and made him stronger

Throwback Sunday - Jack talking about the channel (shortly after reaching 250k subs) and his fears of ending up getting lazy and not doing the best he could.

It’s funny to see how this fear has always been there but has never stopped him from putting all his energy into his work. If anything, it has made him stronger and more motivated, I think! And I really don’t think he’s messed it all up at all :D

Sangwoo’s Feelings for Yoonbum

This is an analysis of Sangwoo’s feelings and thoughts throughout the chapters and how he developed feelings for Bum. This is basically Sangwoo’s POV of the story. It might answer some of the questions I’ve been seeing around about ‘Why did Sangwoo do this or that?’ and etc.

0. Emptiness

I think it’s very obvious that Sangwoo used to be really really lonely before Bum showed up. As a child he was abused and I think he was very attached to his mother so he lost the only person in his life that he truly loved. Imagine how frustrating it is to always pretend to be someone else. Be happy, smile, laugh, joke and hang out with people you don’t even like. You think they’re flawed, shallow, stupid, ungrateful and have ugly personalities (Sangwoo’s words) but this is the only way he can be with people. He has to wear a mask 24/7 that hides his true personality and I don’t care if he’s horrible, he’s still human. He doesn’t whine about it but he’s been subconsciously suffering. He has so many ‘friends’ and yet he’s completely lonely because nobody accepts him for what he really is. He literally does not have anyone.

Now before you blame his behavior and tendencies, I want to point out that I think Sangwoo has Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD), shows signs of BPD and also he’s a victim of abuse so with those in mind, let’s start:

1. ‘A perverted stalker?’

A guy broke into Sangwoo’s house and when he got caught, he confessed to him, telling him that he’s been in love with him. Sangwoo smiles because ‘people are full of shit’ and say anything to save themselves. Let’s trust his words here and say he didn’t kill Bum because he hadn’t kill a man in 3 years but I also think at that moment he feels like he should keep Bum around. Maybe out of curiosity? He’s not sure why yet. He just knows Bum is a different case. To do that, he breaks Bum’s legs to make sure he won’t leave.

2. ‘Can I be attracted to a man?’

He doesn’t know what to do with this guy. Bum is not loud or annoying, he doesn’t disobey him and is powerless. Sangwoo started to rationalize things for himself and figure out if he can be attracted to Bum, a man, in any way, basically he started exploring,

But still, he doesn’t trust this ‘perverted stalker’ so he is thinking, ‘I’ll provoke him and I’ll have a reason to end his life.’ BUT to his surprise, his plan backfires. Bum likes the abuse (or at least pretends to). Despite mocking Yoonbum, Sangwoo is surprised! He loves what he’s seeing. I believe he never got a reaction like that from anyone before when abusing them. And so he takes another step forward and kisses him, still experimenting.

He likes the kiss. He decides to keep Bum for now. He keeps him in the basement for a week. He hurts Bum by cutting him (punishing him) but still Yoonbum doesn’t push him away. Sangwoo realizes Yoonbum really is not a threat and is powerless which is why he took him upstairs and when Yoonbum begged him not to take him to the basement again, despite rejecting him, he considered it.

3. ‘You will hate me!’ First Test

Sangwoo believed Yoonbum will eventually want to leave him. Because I think he is aware of his own wrong actions to some point at least. Why would anyone want to stay with him after everything that happened, right? But the big improvement was that he wasn’t planning to kill him anymore. Why? I believe this is where the feelings started to develop. When he sees his mother (the only person he loved), in Yoonbum. Although he can separate these two people very well in reality.

Yoonbum said ‘I love you!’ AGAIN even after everything and Sangwoo is once again surprised! He slowly starts to trust this person’s feelings. He even gives him a knife but… not because he trusts Bum. That’s a test. I’m not sure if this translation is right but I believe that’s what he means by ‘I have something I want to confirm too’. He’s testing Yoonbum’s loyalty. He wants to know if Bum really means it when he says he loves him.

After that the real abuse starts and I believe he’s copying his father’s behavior while Yoonbum is ‘the mom’. He makes him do house chores, beats him up, etc… Meanwhile he enjoys abusing him and is waiting for an excuse to hurt him badly because he’s not emotionally attached to him yet. He doesn’t care. But Yoonbum is always obedient and finally… Sangwoo lets Yoonbum sit at the table with him because he wonders why Yoonbum is so nice to him, always smiling and listening to him and even made him a really nice dinner. He suspects him and it happens to be the same night Yoonbum uses the rat poison. For whatever reason, the poison doesn’t work on Sangwoo and Yoonbum passes the first test!

4. ‘He really loves me?’

When Yoonbum got sick, is where we can see Sangwoo’s emotions to some point. Sangwoo picked him up and took him to the basement but he looked at Bum and actually felt sorry for him (or maybe he just couldn’t see him as a threat. Either way) He went back up and laid him down on his own mattress. He took care of him and told him to rest. You can see him sitting beside him and staring at him in silence and I love this panel so much because you can see Sangwoo caring. can’t help but feel like he’s worrying for his sick bunny xD His emotions aren’t strong but he doesn’t want to lose Bum.

I think the question Yoonbum asked (whether he really meant it or not) made Sangwoo happy a bit. Chapter 5 is where he finally feels attached to Yoonbum and shows him affection. They started exchanging stories. Sangwoo was actually interested to know about his story, although he was a bit disappointed, saying that it’s ‘boring’ and that he hates weak people like Yoonbum who self pity. “Stop going on about how lonely you are. I hate that shit.” Why? Because Sangwoo is not the type that stay sad and depressed over their misfortunes. He’s the type that wants to get stronger to beat whatever and whoever is in his way. But in a way he thinks Yoonbum is like him. He started comparing himself with Yoonbum which is a big improvement. He told him how Yoonbum made things easier for him. “Why? How? I looked for a reason. And then I saw you.” He told Bum he was glad they were together and Yoonbum’s love made him feel stronger which I believe means Yoonbum’s love and obedience gives him confidence. And by kissing Bum’s wrist he implied that the love can be mutual.
Although he still doesn’t fully trust him (which is probably why he also refused the bj) but he was letting himself believe that Bum’s love for him was real. He’s happy to see someone is still in love with him even after everything that happened and after he saw Sangwoo’s true personality. He has someone now that knows his darkest secrets and still wants him for what he really is.

5. ‘Almost there…’ Second Test

Everything seems to be going well after that. Sangwoo was kind and affectionate towards Yoonbum. He took care of him and joked around. Although I’d like to think he was being too nice on purpose and not really himself and that’s because the second test was coming. He wanted Bum to feel he’d lowered his guards. He reminded Bum not to cross the line then left the house and Bum fails the second test.

6. ‘Don’t be pathetic.’ First Lesson

Even though he was hoping Yoonbum won’t come out, he expected it (considering he had the basement ready for him). He does not trust Bum at all and I think he was trying to kill Bum until he saw him calling his name even in his last moments so that changed his mind. It’s as if you want to let go of someone you like but they keep coming back to you so you can’t make the right decision. He wants Yoonbum. He wants someone to love him and he knows he probably won’t ever find anyone like that again. He was disappointed in Yoonbum SO he decided to make him better! Stronger! Like himself. So after punishing him, first he decided to show him how pathetic he is. He found a guy for Bum to kill (’for practice’), meanwhile insulting both of them to show Bum how 'bad’ it is to be weak.

Sangwoo still cares about him and makes sure Yoonbum knows that. The sick little mind games he played, were only because he enjoys seeing Bum relying on him and trusting him blindly. As I said before, it gives him confidence and makes him feel stronger.

This first murder happened. It was supposedly to make Bum stronger, show him how it feels to kill and… the most important part, help Yoonbum understand Sangwoo and be closer to him (spiritually!?) so they can be together.

7. ‘He left me too! I won’t forgive him!’ The Breakdown

Fear of abandonment. I already wrote a long post and talked about Sangwoo’s fear of abandonment here. The panic that happens after he thinks he’s been abandoned and the roller coaster of emotions. Rage, Fear, Worry, Sadness. He feels betrayed. He goes mad … and I have one thing to add to it all. I think that might’ve been how he felt when his mother ‘left him’ AKA died considering the flashbacks. (I’m not sure if this person is his mother though. She might have been a replacement?) I don’t know if Sangwoo killed her or something else happened but we can be sure that he loves and wants Yoonbum equally.

When he finds Yoonbum… he realizes how valuable he is to him and so he finally decides, “Let’s stay together… forever…”

8. ‘See how disgusting people are’

I’m going to skip a bit to where Sangwoo introduces Yoonbum to his ‘friends’. I think this is all to let Yoonbum get bullied, emotionally hurt, to build up some anger in him and provoke him. To remind him this is how people will treat you if you let them. Sangwoo already knows Yoonbum has been bullied and hurt a lot in his life because in a way he can relate to him. They are the same people. They were both hurt and abused and they have the right to punish these disgusting people. And this is all for Yoonbum and for the both of them. Sangwoo is pulling him up to his level or at least close so that they can be together. Jieun was a gift to Yoonbum and Sangwoo was happy to see Yoonbum accepted that gift.

I tried to keep this as short as possible. I think I understand Sangwoo well and I believe this is also the reason why he kills… but still these are only my thoughts and how I see everything. So they might not be 100% true. Koogi might have more surprises for her readers. But still, I love this character a lot and I can’t wait to see and know more about him and his past. Also I kind of fast forwarded the last chapter because there are so many posts about it already.

We all know that the galra are born with yellow eyes right? It’s their species thing

So why does Zarkon have purple ones? He was shown to have yellow ones before he turned all evil, so why the switch?

We used to just say “Oh he’s like the king or whatever, that’s why” but ever since the flashback ep, it always bothered me. HOWEVER, there was one galra who made their eyes turn purple

This dude right here, but the only reason they turned purple was because of that purple glowy stuff he collected from Slav

So, after all these years collecting quintessence the stuff finally rubbed off on Zarkon and made him stronger and more powerful as evidenced by the guy above during “Escape from Beta Traz”. And as far as we know, Zarkon has been using that quintessence to keep him alive for over 10,000 years and has A LOT of it stored.

This explains why Keith suddenly turns purple when he comes into contact with that stuff, quintessence is like Space Steroids and it’s raw power amplifies the strength in someone (Just aliens as far as we know). And I think I have a good idea as to what it is that’s inside these tubes in the last episode of s2

So why does Zarkon need so much of it?

I think he’s planning to use it in some huge way on his armies to give him the upper hand, and at the rate Haggar is collecting them, it won’t be long until they have enough to use it against Voltron and to capture the universe.

Tbh I think Alec actually realised he loved Magnus on that roof with aldertree like he heard him spouting all this stuff about downworlders and how it would never work and it just felt wrong to him and it made him realise that the fear of losing Magnus was so much stronger than the fear that Magnus could hurt him and then when he actually did think he lost him it just made it even more clear and he couldn’t bear the thought of never getting to tell him. I don’t think he doubted his love for Magnus for a second

Can you do a top 5 Haikyuu characters with the saddest or emotional backstory? The ones that really pulled at your heart strings and made want to cuddle them forever? At least so far in the story. Thanks!

Top 5 tragic (or not so tragic) backstories of haikyuu characters?

1. Oikawa. His backstory taught me a lesson that will stay forever with me. It taught me that’s it’s ok to be afraid, that’s it’s natural to feel despair when you’ve always been on top and suddenly other people start to catch up on you. It taught me that the only way to go on is to keep fighting. It taught me that’s ok to fail, but never to give up. Oikawa is such an inspiring character who went through so much, and hides everything behind his perfect facade. His backstory of struggles and his self awareness journey towards the realization that he’s not a genius, that being surpassed is not a possibility but it’s already his reality made him incredibly human and gave his character a force to be reckoned with. He will never stop trying to make the flower of his talent bloom again, again and again. It made me feel…so much. I love Oikawa, in all his fragile, flawed, indomitable self (ಥ﹏ಥ)

2. Tendou. *slams fist on the wall* WHO DARED TO HURT MY BABY TENDOU??? His flashback broke my heart in so many pieces. Those kids were so mean to him, calling him a monster just because he was different? He was just a little child who wanted to have fun and play volleyball…I’m so proud of how he turned his pain into his ultimate weapon (and kicked so many asses with it)

3. Kageyama. More than his backstory as a kid, what hurt me was his time in junior high. When he arrived to Karasuno, Kageyama was like a hurt wild animal, so aggressive just because he was trying to desperately protect himself. He never had a true supportive team and was convinced that he always had to do everything by himself. He was ostracized, made fun of and abandoned, by his teammates and by the only guidance he ever looked up to. And now here we have him, our beautiful blueberry who learned to trust and to rely on others and who’s constantly improving to be the best setter possible, to his favorite spiker and to the rest of the team. He’s finally home, and that’s beautiful

4. Tsukishima. Eh, another pretty painful one that explained us why the Tsukki that we know is like he is. The contrast between his little self and his older self is heartbreaking. He was a still cocky but very happy little kid…who was lied to all that time. The sport that his beloved brother introduced him to now is just a constant reminder of the pain and anger he suffered. But still, he kept playing, even if…“It’s just a club”. These were all the elements we needed to appreciate the moment he was hooked on volleyball to the fullest :’) I’m so proud of Tsukki, his character development is one of my favorites.

5. Ushijima. “The fact that he’s different from other people, will probably end up being his strength”. This was just a calming and comforting backstory, I loved Ushijima’s dad so much, he was really sweet. First of all, refusing to correct his left handiness was an incredible gesture of love (as a left-handed person, I relate so much), he never pressured him to become a volleyball player, and yet Ushijima did, he joined a strong team, he faced so many opponents that made him stronger, became the ace his father admired so much, he liked volleyball, and he made his dad happy. This is such an perfect (and unexpected) backstory for him.

You were born to a family of angels. If someone thought goody-two-shoes people were terrible, imagine how it felt to sport wings that burned every time you lied and having to move nearly every month once you’ve served your purpose.

Being an angel, you all had a specific purpose. And being part of a family, your family would spread across a town to spread positive energy throughout the people. No one could ever be in a bad mood if an angel was around… unless they’re so consumed by the darkness.

And once you stepped into Beacon Hills High School, you knew you found where you needed to go. You had a feeling you belonged to be there and it made your wings tingle underneath your jacket. You rolled your shoulders back and took a deep breath before setting off to find your locker. As you walked, there were multiple pairs of eyes on you. Not because you were an angel that just glowed (that’s actual a myth), but because there were other supernatural beings in that school that got a whiff of your scent. You just didn’t know that… yet.

“She’s not human.” Malia whispered, looking over to Scott and Liam who understood her statement. “Her scent… it’s… different.”

Scott nodded in agreement. “We don’t know if she’s a bad guy-”

“Or girl.” Lydia interrupted.

He looked over to her and nodded slightly. “Yeah… bad girl or not… We lay off her unless she proves to be a threat.”

“Just keep your wolf and coyote eyes on her.” Stiles added. “Stay. Away.”

“Well someone needs to tell Theo the plan.” Liam muttered. The pack looked over to what he meant.

And there you were, standing next to Theo Raeken, struggling to open your locker which, coincidentally, was next to his. He stood stiffly as the doors were pushed open a breeze sweeping in, carrying your scent over to him which made it stronger. Fear struck him in his bones after registering what your scent was. “Are you here to punish me?” He thought aloud.

You looked over to him as he hid his face inside his locker. “Excuse me?” You asked, politely. When there was no response, you decided to pat the young man on his muscly bicep. But then you saw darkness and a young woman tearing this boy’s heart out repeatedly. It was like a nightmare. You yelped as you pulled your hand away, immediately recognizing the feeling of darkness. It consumed him.

You were standing in a daze as Theo slammed his locker shut and hurriedly walked away from you. Your eyes trailed him.

In your first period, you introduced yourself to the teacher and was shown to a seat. There was an empty desk beside you and you couldn’t wait to attempt to befriend this new person. But fate decided to play against you as the boy from earlier sat next to you with an annoyed expression.

“Are you stalking me?” He asked, abruptly. “First you’re next to me in the morning, opening a locker that clearly wasn’t yours since you can’t even open the damn thing. And now you’re sitting next to me in my first period? I’ve never seen you a day in my life. So if-”

“I’m sorry if you got that impression.” You apologized. “I was told to sit here by the teacher. And as for the locker situation this morning, I honestly could not open the.. um… thing.”

“Damn.” Theo repeated. You raised an eyebrow. “Say it.” You shook your head. Wings tend to painfully shed a feather or two if a curse word left your mouth. Growing feathers back was the true punishment. After a long period of silence and an intense staring competition, Theo finally said, “I know what you are. And I’m not going back.”

“What?” You asked as the bell rang and class began.

After the class, you chased after him but he immediately disappeared into the crowd of students. “What did this kid mean.” You asked aloud.

It wasn’t until lunch time that you saw this mystery boy again. The two of you locked eyes across the room and he stood up to leave the cafeteria. You ran after him and just before he opened the doors to leave, you grabbed him. “Let go!” He said, shaking you off.

“What did you mean you aren’t going back?”

“Why do you care?” He shot back. “I don’t know you!”

“My apologies… I’m-I’m..” You began, but he interrupted.

Why Do You Keep Apologizing!” He screamed. “Demons don’t do that!”

You furrowed your eyebrows. “You-you think I’m a demon?” You couldn’t even contain your laughter. His face sported a confused expression. “I apologize for my laughter. But I’m not a demon. My name is (Y/N).” You said, offering your hand.

“Theo.” He muttered. “If you aren’t a demon, then what are you? ‘Cause you’re definitely not human.”

“And I suppose neither are you.” You said with a playful smirk on your face. “You don’t need to be afraid of me, Theo. I’m not here to harm you nor take you back to that girl.” He raised his eyebrows at you, wordlessly questioning you. “That girl in your nightmares. The one that tears out your heart.”

“How did you-”

“Angels are more than just wings and good deeds, Theo.” You said. “We have purposes as to why we arrive in cities… and I have a feeling my purpose is to rid you of your darkness.”

“Can you do that?” He asked, hopeful. You smiled warmly.

“Of course.”

I’m thinking about doing a part two… Because this feels like it needs a part two. Wouldn’t you agree?

Reylo/Kylo’s Redemption/Rey is not a Skywalker Evidence Masterlist

A/N: I just wanted to create a masterlist of evidence I’ve collected and seen others collect about Reylo, Kylo’s possible redemption and debunking Rey Skywalker. This is mostly for me, I wanted a clean space where I could archive it. If you have any evidence to add to any of these theories then feel free to message me!

Added 5/22/17: TFA concept art sections for Reylo and Kylo’s redemption

REYLO EVIDENCE:

1) The Force Awakens novelization by Alan Dean Foster

Without the slightest hesitation, the cloaked figure of Kylo Ren emerged and strode forward to join the battle. A stunned Rey could only track him with her eyes. She had seen this man before, in a daydream. In a nightmare.

———————————————————————————————

In Kylo Ren’s voice there was unexpected gentleness. Not quite sympathy, but something less than the hostility with which he had confronted her in the forest. “You’re my guest.”

———————————————————————————————

A look of amazement replaced the fear on Rey’s face as she discovered herself inside his mind. Stunned at the realization, she found herself inexorably drawn to—to… “You,” she heard herself saying clearly, “you’re afraid. That you will never be as strong as—Darth Vader!”

———————————————————————————————

It was nothing but a waste of physical energy and mental concentration. Hux - Hux was not worthy of such attention. The girl on the other hand…

———————————————————————————————

The Supreme Leader’s voice was flat. “You have compassion for her.”

“No—never. Compassion? For an enemy of the Order?”

“I perceive the problem,” Snoke intoned. “It isn’t her strength that is making you fail. It’s your weakness.” The rebuke hurt, but Ren didn’t show it.

2) The Force Awakens DVD Commentary by J.J. Abrams

This is the moment of course where Kylo Ren learns about Rey. And now, these two disparate pieces come together.

———————————————————————————————

These were the kind of locations that felt like a given in Star Wars. For example, we looked at it like a Western or a fairy tale. What are the elements that you’re going to see that makes it this genre, this specific genre? And clearly, in a Western, you’re going to have the dusty main street, the saloon. You’re going to have cowboys. You’re going to have the bad guy, who’s probably dressed in black. You’re probably going to have a castle, and a prince and a princess, if you’re looking at a fairy tale. We wanted to give these sort of, fundamental, not cosmetic, but, sort of, prerequisite elements. These locations in which we can set our new story and our new characters.

  • But in this scene she is drawn to this place, almost like Cinderella.
  • But when his mask comes off, you see Adam Driver, and he just looks like a sort of prince.

———————————————————————————————

One of the new relationships that we were focusing on was between Kylo Ren and Rey. They’ve never met but he’s heard of this girl. And so, now comes a moment when their meeting is inevitable. […] And now we’re back to our heroine. And this moment where she is about to, for the first time, be confronted by Kylo Ren, a character who she’s going to have a very interesting relationship with moving forward.

———————————————————————————————

So the idea here is that Kylo Ren’s gotten inside of Rey’s head, sees that she has seen the map and is now letting go of the droid as his goal, and focusing just on her. And clearly you think, well he must be able to just extract the information he wants now. But because he’s taken her, you get a sense that there might be something else going on here.

———————————————————————————————

And we’re back in the forest with the story we really care about, the focus of the story which is Rey and Ren.

KYLO’S REDEMPTION EVIDENCE:

1) Adam Driver Interviews

Kylo is someone who is broken. There’s nothing more powerful than genetics. If you really imagine the stakes of him in his youth having all these special powers and having your parents be absent during that process, with their own agendas, equally as selfish. He’s lost in the world that he was raised in and feels that he was abandoned by the people that he’s closest with. He’s angry because of that, I think. And he has a huge grudge on his shoulders.

- The Secrets of The Force Awakens

———————————————————————————————

Larry King: Without giving away any spoilers, what’s one aspect about Kylo Ren you are excited for fans to see in the next film?

Adam Driver: I think that’s such a general answer, but you know…humanity. […] There were a lot of plot points that we knew were operating in the first one, that we get to explain more in the second one to make both of them make sense.

- Larry King Now interview

———————————————————————————————

That was a frustrating thing. Everyone likes to tell you you’re the bad guy, but I definitely didn’t think of him that way.

- Larry King Now interview

———————————————————————————————

I feel like that character makes sense to me. The family dynamic and desperately wanting family to be part of his life but not getting it. The anxiety and lot of anger that that creates and that last a lifetime. When we finished that I was like, I believe we made that personal.

- Awards Chatter podcast

———————————————————————————————

I remember us saying he wasn’t bad or evil, but was something more three-dimensional. Because that seemed more dangerous and more unpredictable - someone who feels morally justified in what they’re doing, instead of someone being evil for the sake of it.

- The Force Awakens press conference

2) J.J. Abrams comments

They had this kid who was born equal parts good and evil. He is someone who is broken….But it’s more than just having a bad seed as a kid. Snoke had targeted this kid, knew that this kid was gonna be incredibly powerful in the force and wanted him as an ally. So this mother and father had a target for a son. Someone was watching their boy. And these parents aren’t there enough to guide him.

- The Secrets of the Force Awakens

———————————————————————————————

So, here’s the moment, where Supreme Leader Snoke doubts that Kylo Ren is strong enough to resist the overture of love from his father. And it’s the first time you see that Kylo Ren might even have some self-doubt. He’s trying to defend himself, but Snoke is not convinced.

- The Force Awakens DVD Commentary

———————————————————————————————

You’re watching two parents grappling over an incredibly difficult child. And, I think, that’s a very relatable parental conversation. To see it between Han and Leia, I think, was particularly interesting. And you just see how what happened with their son, Ben, it really ripped them apart. When Leia mentions Supreme Leader Snoke, you realise that they are aware of this figure that is responsible for seducing their son over to the dark side. And you realise that Han has been on the run trying to get away from this this whole time. And in this moment, Leia implores Han not to give up. To do anything he can to save their son.

- The Force Awakens DVD Commentary

———————————————————————————————

But the question of why he wears the mask was answered in his insecurity. That he was involved with the Knights of Ren, which we have a whole backstory for. But the idea that he was using that mask for intimidation, that he, like many terrorists, is a coward, and he’s someone who’s hiding, who’s trying to scare you. And he knows that what you don’t see is more frightening. And I think he’s also got a little bit of a Vader wish, that he’s trying to emulate his grandfather.

- The Force Awakens DVD Commentary

———————————————————————————————

“This used to be the second scene with Snoke where Ren was unmasked, but now it’s the first one. […] Now, Ren is still trying to get Snoke to give him a shot, but Snoke is saying no. Basically, “I don’t trust you any more, I’ve got to do the job.”

- The Force Awakens DVD Commentary

———————————————————————————————

People have asked me if I think that Kylo Ren was just playing with him the whole time, if he meant to kill him from the beginning. And the truth is, I think that Kylo Ren in this moment is actually being convinced to walk away from this. Snoke is, as Han says, using him. And I think that somewhere Ben knows this. But I think that he can’t accept it deep down. He has gone too far. […] But I don’t think that in this moment this is a put on. I think that Ben is legitimately going to give up. But then, the idea was that in this moment, where he’s taking the lightsaber and offering it to him as a gesture, the sun finally is drained from the sky. And you see the light go away. And now they’re in this darkness. And darkness takes over. And as if this moment isn’t disturbing enough, he pushes the saber further in and says these terrifying two words. “Thank You.” In Kylo’s mind, what he has just done seals the deal. It’s the ultimate proof to Snoke that he is to be trusted, that he will not be seduced by the light. And I think, the instant that he’s done it, he regrets it.

- The Force Awakens DVD Commentary

———————————————————————————————

In explaining the character of Kylo Ren, Abrams draws a strong connection from his turn to the Dark Side and his parents’ fractured relationship. Making matters worse was Supreme Leader Snoke, who knew the child of Han Solo and Princess Leia would be powerful and targeted Ben from an early age, corrupting him and then recruiting him to the First Order.

3) The Force Awakens novelization by Alan Dean Foster

Stunned by his own action, Kylo Ren fell to his knees. Following through on the act ought to have made him stronger, a part of him believed. Instead, he found himself weakened.

———————————————————————————————

He met her eyes steadily. “We’ve lost our son, forever.”

Leia bit her lower lip, refusing to concede. “No. It was Snoke.”

Han drew back slightly. “Snoke?”

She nodded. “He knew our child would be strong with the Force. That he was born with equal potential for good or evil.

You knew this from the beginning? Why didn’t you tell me?”

She sighed. “Many reasons. I was hoping that I was wrong, that it wasn’t true. I hoped I could sway him, turn him away from the dark side, without having to involve you.” A small smile appeared.

“You had—you have—wonderful qualities, Han, but patience and understanding were never among them. I was afraid that your reactions would only drive him farther to the dark side. I thought I could shield him from Snoke’s influence and you from what was happening.” Her voice dropped. “It’s clear now that I was wrong. Whether your involvement would have made a difference, we’ll never know.”

He had trouble believing what he was hearing. “So Snoke was watching our son.”

“Always,” she told him. “From the shadows, in the beginning, even before I realized what was happening, he was manipulating everything, pulling our son toward the dark side.”

———————————————————————————————

“You don’t belong with them.” Tekka spoke calmly, in matter-of-fact tones, and without any fear. Speaking truth to the lie that stood before him, striving to bring light to darkness. The hope was a faint one, but he had to try. “The First Order arose from the dark side. You did not.”

———————————————————————————————

When next Snoke spoke there was an intimacy in his voice, a familiarity that stood in sharp contrast to the commanding tone he had used with Hux.

“I have never had a student with such promise—before you.”

Ren straightened. “It is your teachings that make me strong, Supreme Leader.”

Snoke demurred. “It is far more than that. It is where you are from. What you are made of. The dark side—and the light. The finest sculptor cannot fashion a masterpiece from poor materials. He must have something pure, something strong, something unbreakable, with which to work. I have - you.

———————————————————————————————

“I want the entire Ileenium system destroyed.”

Daring to disagree, Ren took a step forward. “No - Supreme Leader, I can get the map from the girl, and that will be the end of it. I just need your guidance.”

———————————————————————————————

He [Kylo] looked at the officer. “The trooper who was on guard?”

“Still being debriefed, sir. He doesn’t remember what happened. One minute he was at his post, at ease. The next, he found himself in his quarters, changing out of uniform. Initial assessment indicates he is telling the truth.” The officer hesitated. “If you would wish to try stronger methods I can…”

“No - no. Keep questioning him. Just - questioning. He may remember something.”

He held her stare, and then his gloved hands touched the sides of his mask and took it off.

He had a young man’s face, with an old man’s eyes. His lips and dark hair stood out against the pale complexion of one who shirked the sun. He looked like a student who took no joy in his studies. One who perceived only the great problems of the galaxy and not its simple pleasures. […]

“And Han Solo,” he said. “He feels like the father you never had.” His tone softened, as if he cared. “Let it go. He would disappoint you.”

———————————————————————————————

Ben had the wavy dark hair that Han remembered, now shoulder length. His mother’s cheeks, Han’s chin. Yet everything about him was narrow and stark, as if he had starved himself of nourishment. And his eyes were not the brown eyes Han remembered. They were dim and dark and terribly sad. […]

In the last few seconds of his life, he thought of the Falcon and his furry first mate and his beautiful princess, but he saw only his son. The darkness in his eyes. And the sadness.

Han forgave his son for what he had done. He prayed someday his son would forgive him in turn.

5) The Aftermath novels by Chuck Wendig

Who is out there, who is watching us? Hands reach for her, hands of shadow, lifting her up, reaching for her throat, her wrists, her stomach -

Inside, the child kicks. She feels her baby turning inside, right-side, up and down, struggling to find his bearings, trying so hard to find his way free of her.
———————————————————————————————

He is less a human shaped thing and more a pulsing, living band of light. Light that sometimes dims, that sometimes is thrust with a vein of darkness. She tells herself that it’s normal - Luke said to her, Leia, we all have that. He explained that the brighter the light, the darker the shadow.

Right now, her son is upset, tumbling inside her as if he can’t get comfortable. His light, flickering with dark.

Dear mom and dad:

I’m not transitioning to kill her. She is an important part of my past, and one I’ll always have. I’m transitioning to save him. She has made him stronger. The world isn’t losing a daughter, or niece, or sister, they’re gaining a son, a brother, a nephew. I need this to happen. I can’t keep denying myself this. Otherwise, you’re killing both of us

“Flat out” - h.s. Part 6

Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Part 5

The air was humid as you jogged up the steps in your white sneakers, kicking the door open with the nudge of your hip as you held the box in your hands. Harry groaned when the door opened and you merely smiled at him, quickly closing it behind you.

“Do you know why I invest in air conditioning, Y/N?” Harry asked, running his hands through his sweaty and damp hair. “It’s to keep the inside cool. And with you opening windows and keeping the door open all the time, that’s kind of hard to do.”

You rolled your eyes and placed the heap of boxes on the counter as Harry watched you. You were dressed much cuter and more casual than you had in the past with school, and Harry realized that it was because you could breathe again. You had no one to impress. You’d gotten a job. And now was just that transition phase before you moved on with your life.

I get a little sad when I hear people going “Hunk is not fat, he’s muscular” because like…

Let’s just take a brief look at our beautiful boy here:

I like this shot, even though it’s technically everyone, because this nicely demonstrates both of the important things here. The important things here is: Hunk is both fat. and muscular. Absolutely. He has a soft tummy and big dang beefy arms.

THE T-SHIRT THIEF | M

Pairing: Taehyung x Reader

Genre: Smut, Fluff

Word Count: 9,812

Description: In the midst of your loneliness due to Taehyung’s absence, you decide that you need a distraction, which somehow manifests itself as going over to his apartment and stealing a t-shirt or two… or three…

Anonymous Requested: Being in a relationship with Taehyung, and stealing all of his t-shirts while he’s busy with bts’ latest comeback + smut

cr.

You watched with a prominent downward quirk of your lips as Taehyung ran around the apartment, quickly stuffing clothes into a duffel bag as he scurried in every direction to gather his things before he had to head off to the dorms. It was time for a comeback, and all of the members agreed that it would be much easier on everyone to just stay at the dorms together during the busy hype of the first couple of weeks. This cut down the annoyances of people showing up to schedules at different times, or getting caught in traffic, so you completely understood the point of it… You just wished it didn’t mean having to stay back at your apartment all alone.

At this point in your relationship with Taehyung, you probably should have been used to the notion of him having to leave for a few weeks, or sometimes even a few months, every once in a while… but just because you were used to it, didn’t mean you had to like it.

You fell back against the mattress, your mind heavy with thoughts, and you weren’t exactly trying your hardest to mask the disdain you had for him leaving, so it wasn’t surprising when you felt the slight sink of someone taking the spot next to you on the bed. You opened your eyes, a concerned looking Taehyung coming into view.

“Please don’t pout. You know I don’t want to leave.” He reached forward, lightly pinching at your bottom lip that was sticking out.

Receipts of a possible redemption arc

After reading the new infos about baby Ben Solo, i’ve been wanting to put together all the evidences pointing to a likely redemption arc.

The Force Awakens novelization:

When next Snoke spoke there was an intimacy in his voice, a familiarity that stood in sharp contrast to the commanding tone he had used with Hux.
“I have never had a student with such promise—before you.”
Ren straightened. “It is your teachings that make me strong, Supreme Leader.”
Snoke demurred. “It is far more than that. It is where you are from. What you are made of. The dark side—and the light. The finest sculptor cannot fashion a masterpiece from poor materials. He must have something pure, something strong, something unbreakable, with which to work. I have—you.

He met her eyes steadily. “We’ve lost our son, forever.”
Leia bit her lower lip, refusing to concede. “No. It was Snoke.
Han drew back slightly. “Snoke?”
She nodded. “He knew our child would be strong with the Force. That he was born with equal potential for good or evil.
“You knew this from the beginning? Why didn’t you tell me?”
She sighed. “Many reasons. I was hoping that I was wrong, that it wasn’t true. I hoped I could sway him, turn him away from the dark side, without having to involve you.” A small smile appeared. “You had—you have—wonderful qualities, Han, but patience and understanding were never among them. Whether your involvement would have made a difference, we’ll never know.”
He had trouble believing what he was hearing. “So Snoke was watching our son.
Always,” she told him. “From the shadows, in the beginning, even before I realized what was happening, he was manipulating everything, pulling our son toward the dark side.”

The Supreme Leader’s voice was flat. “You have compassion for her.
“No—never. Compassion? For an enemy of the Order?”
“I perceive the problem,” Snoke intoned. “It isn’t her strength that is making you fail. It’s your weakness.” The rebuke hurt, but Ren didn’t show it.
[…]

“I want the entire Ileenium system destroyed.”
Daring to disagree, Ren took a step forward. “No—Supreme Leader, I can get the map from the girl, and that will be the end of it. I just need your guidance.”
“And you promised me when it came to destroying the Resistance you wouldn’t fail me.” The threatening figure of Snoke leaned toward Ren. […]

“Kylo Ren. It appears that a reminder is in order. So I will show you the dark side. Bring the girl to me.”

He (Kylo Ren) looked at the officer. “The trooper who was on guard?”
“Still being debriefed, sir. He doesn’t remember what happened. One minute he was at his post, at ease. The next, he found himself in his quarters, changing out of uniform. Initial assessment indicates he is telling the truth.” The officer hesitated. “If you would wish to try stronger methods I can…”
“No—no. Keep questioning him. Just—questioning. He may remember something.”

Ren hesitated.
“It’s too late,” he said.
“No, it’s not.” Halfway across the walkway now, Han continued to move forward, smiling. “Never too late for the truth. Leave here with me. Come home.” Without the slightest trace of malice or deception, he cast a dagger. “Your mother misses you.”
A strange sensation touched the younger man’s cheeks. Something long forgotten. Dampness. Tears. […]
Stunned by his own action, Kylo Ren fell to his knees. Following through on the act ought to have made him stronger, a part of him believed. Instead, he found himself weakened.

The Force Awakens junior novelization:

Snoke’s voice assumed a fatherly tone. “I never had a student with such promise…before you.”
“It’s your teachings that make me strong, Supreme Leader,” Ren said.
“It is far more than that. It is where you are from. What you are made of. The dark side,” the Supreme Leader said, hesitating before saying the next words, “and the light.”

“He feels like the father you never had.”
His tone softened, as if he cared. “Let it go. He would disappoint you.”

Han forgave his son for what he had done. He prayed someday his son would forgive him in turn.

Aftermath Empire’s End:

Who is out there, who is watching us? Hands reach for her, hands of shadow, lifting her up, reaching for her throat, her wrists, her stomach -
Inside, the child kicks. She feels her baby turning inside, right-side, up and down, struggling to find his bearings, trying so hard to find his way free of her.

As Leia finds her peace, so does her son. […]
My son is alive. The future is bright.  […]
The baby turns inside her again, troubled by something she cannot feel and cannot yet understand.

Quotes:

“They (Han and Leia) had this kid who was born equal parts good and evil. He is someone who is broken….But it’s more than just having a bad seed as a kid. Snoke had targeted this kid, knew that this kid was gonna be incredibly powerful in the force and wanted him as an ally. So this mother and father had a target for a son. Someone was watching their boy. And these parents aren’t there enough to guide him.” (J.J. Abrams)

Q: Without giving away any spoilers, what’s one aspect about Kylo Ren you are excited for fans to see in the next film?

Adam Driver: I think that’s such a general answer, but you know… humanity.

“Imagine the stakes for him in his youth… Having all these special powers and having your parents absent during that process on their own agendas, equally as selfish. He’s lost in the world that he was raised in, and feels that he was kind of abandoned by the people he was closest with.(Adam Driver)

[…] The family dynamic and desperately wanting family to be part of his life but not getting it. The anxiety and lot of anger that that creates and that last a lifetime. (Adam Driver)

I hope i’m not forgetting anything, but please feel free to add.

Michonne is not Andrea

Here is a post I just made on tellittothedead (to answer concerns about haters stating Michonne will now die) that I thought would be appreciated here:

While I’m 100% Richonne shipper trash, I’m also a realist. Chances are Rick and Michonne won’t get a happy ever after at the end of this series. It’s an apocalyptic horror show after all. HOWEVER, I do not believe that GN Andrea’s death foreshadows Michonne’s. Here’s why:

  • Michonne is an iconic character to both GN readers and TV viewers and her death would have impact way beyond Rick’s manpain
  • GN Andrea’s death was stupid. Like dumb, lazy writing stupid and I do NOT see Gimple forcing that idiocy onto one of his 3 major characters
  • GN Rick is very very different than TV Rick. TV Rick already proved to viewers that he can survive Michonne’s death and carry on. I give all the credit to Michonne on that one. It was her love for him and faith in him that made him a much stronger man. A man who sees beyond his individual needs to the greater good. With that in mind, what purpose would Michonne’s death serve other than shock factor?
  • While Gimple is a fan of the comics and is loyal to the larger comic arcs, he is known to switch up the deaths. Under his reign I think Glenn was the only one who got his comic death and even that had a twist on it.
  • AMC cares about revenue more than anything. Yes, Daryl is their cash cow because they own the character but what other characters sell the most merchandise? What actors have the longest lines? Who generates the most buzz? Michonne earns them viewers, buyers and fan loyalty. She’s not going anywhere until the very end (possibly) when they have the series end in sight.

I have always said that Michonne and Carl will outlive Rick and Andrea’s comic death is not changing my opinion at all.

The haters can suck it.

anonymous asked:

I think Zuko was more introverted, but when you see him as a child, he was much more chipper and upbeat. If you read about kids, or experience it yourself or witness it firsthand, you can see that 9/10, kids who have been abused are very withdrawn and socially anxious and a bit awkward because of the anxiety. Not to mention how he was raised in a palace. I was severely abused as a child too and I am the same way as Zuko. Ehasz did his research on behaviors of abuse victims. :( <3

same anon that was abused: I like also how with Katara, Zuko really opened up and overcame his social anxieties because there was a real, intimate trust there. With Mai, he’s still submissive and withdrawn emotionally from his abuse. Every abused kid knows there will be a a social difficulty with peers and has felt it themselves. Mai took advantage of Zuko at a vulnerable spot and Zuko’s thirst for love and childhood reminisce. Katara built him up from it, made him feel stronger and more loved

First of all, I am so sorry to hear that you were severely abused. That is awful. And you are absolutely right that Ehasz did his research and that Zuko’s portrayal is very authentic for a victim of child abuse. His character is so fascinating. His anxiety and introversion are both very realistic and you can see how he was severely affected by his upbringing, including the isolation. Thank you for your perspective, by the way. As a victim of abuse, you have a very valid criticism of Maiko and you have every right to be unhappy with how Zuko’s relationship was depicted given that he is also an abuse victim.

I got the same sense as you. With Mai, he said nothing. He looked upset and would not face her. Then they kissed. But he did not kiss her in the same way with Jin. He let her kiss him. There is a big difference. He did not object, because he is submissive. He is a victim of abuse and he has a hard time standing up for himself and expressing his feelings. People use this kiss as a sign of his feelings for Mai, but they are missing the subtle dynamic that was being depicted. Aaron Ehasz wrote this episode and he wanted to show that Zuko is passive and unassertive because he has been so victimized and he is vulnerable. This scene was NOT a romantic moment at all. It was actually a very abusive one.

Mai completely takes advantage of his submissiveness. She orders him around at the party, and gets very angry when he tries to talk about his past. As soon as he got home from war, she wants him to cater to her. She only seems happy when she is indulging in the perks of him being a prince. He seems so desperate for any kind of affection that he puts up with suppressing all of his feelings and plays a role, because she only likes the “perfect prince” Zuko and he is so lonely. She likes fruit tarts and palanquin rides, but she acts extremely dismissive when anything serious about his life comes up. He finally cannot take it anymore, and he withdraws and will not tell her how he really feels. This is the romance that Bryke thought was healthy and cute.

I agree that he opened up to Katara far more and they would have had a much, much better relationship. He was able to talk to her about personal things that he would never tell anyone else. She understood him and as a victim of abuse, this is crucial. And he listened to her, too. He communicated with her more as an enemy during one single scene than he did with his own girlfriend during the whole show, including the comics. He talked about his scar, and his feeling of being “marked”. She offered to heal him. Mai looks bored when the subject of the war meeting comes up and she happily tells him to get over it so they can go back to cuddling. She knows he got his scar there, and she doesn’t care.
