Ilvermorny Houses

Thunderbird: represents the soul, adventurous, intelligent, temperamental

I think for Thunderbirds, a large part of being “adventurous” is actually about being open-minded.  They are curious and always willing to try new things; they also tend to accept new things without questioning them too much.  They are in touch with their emotions and their soul, and thus have a strong sense of self.  They know who they are but they are always open to change.  They can be seen as temperamental because they express their emotions more openly and aren’t afraid to say what they are thinking.  They can be optimistic to a fault and have trouble processing their emotions when bad things happen.  Overall, thunderbirds are open in many ways, including how they makes friends, show their emotions, and learn new ideas.

Horned Serpent: represents the mind, intelligent

Horned Serpents tend to very analytical and cynical; they love to learn new things, but they take everything with a grain of salt and question why.  They are very logical about things and tend to ignore their illogical emotions; they are the best at ignoring/hiding their emotions.  They are resourceful and are always looking for solutions to problems which occur.  However, they tend to have difficulty realizing that they can’t fix everything, especially when bad things happen.  They tend to be introverted and making friends doesn’t come naturally to them.  They often get caught up in their thoughts and can forget to stop and interact with the world around them.  They are their own person and can be quite stubborn; they don’t like to do things unless they agree to the reasons for doing it, and thus don’t take orders well.

Wampus: represents the body, fiercely loyal, argumentative

Webster said “that a house named after him would never win anything”.  This indicates that he is competitive, he wants to win and be remembered.  People in Wampus are competitive but they want to win fairly.  They are also very loyal to what matters to them, whether that be people or a set of ideals/a moral code.  They are aware of bad things happening and tend to be more cynical about it.  Often, they feel a sense of duty and are amongst the first to take action.  They don’t express their emotions well and tend to bottle them up until they explode.  They are great at team sports and tend to have a close-knit group of friends; it takes a while for them to trust/befriend someone, but they are loyal to the friends they make.

Pukwudgie: represents the heart

I think the characteristics of this house are modeled more after James than William.  I think Pukwudgies feel things deeply and are emotionally affected when things happen to others; James came looking for people he had recently befriended and buried their bodies.  They have a great capacity for empathy and they try their best to help others, thus why this is the house of healers.  They acknowledge that bad things will always happen and that they cannot change that, but they remain optimistic and do their best to help others when catastrophes occur.  This includes healing others, offering emotional support, and working to rebuild what was destroyed.  They are open-minded and connect with other people, whom they can be very loyal to.

Review | Starbucks’ Unicorn Frappuccino tastes like sour birthday cake and shame
The long-rumored drink, released in participating stores nationwide Wednesday, is only available until April 23.
By https://www.facebook.com/maura.judkis

When a news release identifies a drink’s component parts by its colors, rather than its flavors — well, that’s a pretty telling detail. And sure enough, it is vibrant and fun. But what flavor is “pink?” Pink is the flavor of Lisa Frank trapper keepers and strawberry milk. What does sour blue powder taste like? Like Jolly Ranchers, and shame. I guess there’s some mango in there, although it’s overshadowed by a mouth-puckering sour flavor and immediately forgotten in the aftermath of a long-lasting, tongue-coating Robitussin aftertaste.

Really, it does not matter what candies and medicines and emotions these colored powders taste like. This drink exists only to be Instagrammed, hashtag unicorn emoji, hashtag magical.

Hey Dark. Have you ever considered playing the saxophone? I've been playing alto for 4 years and it's pretty neat.

“The saxophone is a rather nice sounding instrument.”

Dark agreed with a slow nod, and rested one side of his hand against his lips. The remainder of his words were slightly muffled as he spoke against his skin, eyes drifting into space.

“An object that conducts some of the most soothing pieces, but in turn, some of the most erratic. But there are a few unsightly reasons that I refrain from playing wind instruments. For one, it calls for a drain of oxygen through your lips, which, all I can tell you is that this is not the most attractive look. The other reason is the collection of… well… spit, that accumulates inside of the instrument. The idea of having to quite literally pour out your saliva after playing music is quite unsettling to me.”

Im trying to compile concrete examples for this podcast ep me and neen are supposedly doing about Rihanna and other non-technical vocalists we enjoy and S&M came on in the gym this morning and I was like thinking about how one time I picked up this book about the production of mathematically perfect pop songs and how.. I think it was S&M, but like ester dean crafted the hook and each of dean’s songs actually has like three hooks but anyway. This has very little directly to do with Rihanna the vocal stylist. Re: this song specifically I’m weirdly obsessed with how she says “i like it like it” in the main hook where she’s repeating it like it just gets to me every time i hear it and i have no idea why and I don’t even like this song that much bc of the production and i think the chorus is kinda bad but the hook and that part in the hook..

but actually it is directly related because taking both of these tangential thoughts together its like pretty obvious that vocals - and not technical vocals but rather timbre and idiosyncratic delivery - are way more important in pop music than people really consciously think because everyone always gets down on the vacant lyricism and the formula of it all … and ummmm duh it is formulaic because so much of this is written by formula and factory design and max martin has almost arithmetic rules etc etc … But then naturally it comes down to delivery because delivery can save subpar lyricism and songwriting (and uplift both) but poor delivery will drag down anything its meant to deliver

When I googled this book I was thinking of this article covering it had the gist of what I think when I think of Rihanna: “the words are more like vocalized beats than like lyrics, and they don’t communicate meaning so much as feeling and attitude… they nudge you closer to the ecstasy promised by the beat” first i find it interesting that they say vocalized beats bc that’s the clear inextricable infusion of hip hop into pop music? and also the quote as a whole is not only Rihanna as a singer but also Rihanna as an artist and celebrity/personality… As all three she sells you perfectly effortless attitude and people try to separate the three i.e. “she’s a better fashion icon or social media personality than singer” but her success in each area is like triangularly contingent on excelling in the others

i have no excuse this is just kind of fun

They call you cry baby, cry baby
But you don’t fucking care
Cry baby, cry baby
So you laugh through your tears

Cry baby, cry baby
‘Cause you don’t fucking care
Tears fall to the ground
You’ll just let them drown

Easter at Home Farm
  • Robert: What? You're saying you'd rather go for a run than let me cook you breakfast?
  • Aaron: I've seen what's in the fridge. I'd rather do pretty much anything else.
  • Robert: Well, it's Easter, you're meant to live on sugar! And... I've better things to do than shopping. (KISS) You know, we could just skip both and go back to bed?
  • Aaron: Yeah, don't tempt me. I'll have my mum on my case as it is.
  • Robert: Take it steady, though, eh?
  • Aaron: I'm fine. I promise you.
The Earth should not be cut up into hundreds of different sections, each inhabited by a self-defined segment of humanity that considers its own welfare and its own “national security” to be paramount above all other consideration.

I am all for cultural diversity and would be willing to see each recognizable group value its cultural heritage. I am a New York patriot, for instance, and if I lived in Los Angeles, I would love to get together with other New York expatriates and sing “Give My Regards to Broadway.”

This sort of thing, however, should remain cultural and benign. I’m against it if it means that each group despises others and lusts to wipe them out. I’m against arming each little self-defined group with weapons with which to enforce its own prides and prejudices.

The Earth faces environmental problems right now that threaten the imminent destruction of civilization and the end of the planet as a livable world. Humanity cannot afford to waste its financial and emotional resources on endless, meaningless quarrels between each group and all others. there must be a sense of globalism in which the world unites to solve the real problems that face all groups alike.

Can that be done? The question is equivalent to: Can humanity survive?

I am not a Zionist, then, because I don’t believe in nations, and because Zionism merely sets up one more nation to trouble the world. It sets up one more nation to have “rights” and “demands” and “national security” and to feel it must guard itself against its neighbors.

There are no nations! There is only humanity. And if we don’t come to understand that right soon, there will be no nations, because there will be no humanity.
