Plant story: when I was a child, my planet, Kr... uh, no, wrong one. When I was in elementary school, we used to spend the Summer at my parents' country house, where my mom had a pretty decent flower garden and a few vases here and there. One of those vases was overflowing with something that looked like a bunch of spiky green fingers, so I asked why she kept that weird thing instead of some other flower and she said "Just wait for it". So I waited, and waited. And waited, until... (part 1)
(part 2)… until, at the end of the season, the weird thing came out with a beautiful totally unexpected flower with a cheetah-like pattern. That would be the Stapelia and if you want to see the flower, that’s one of the first Google Images results.
First, thank you for not making the second part of the ask end up being weird. I was worried for a second there.
