sorry but ratatouille’s ending is such a perfect ending. i gotta be honest: even with movies i adore, the ending doesn’t tend to be my favorite part, even when they are good. i’m usually all for the middle, the journey, the action.
but this fucking ending is an exception. just put it on and i’ll tear up over that brilliant representation of how just one little thing (such as a simple bite of simple food) can bring back the most nostalgic childhood memories full force, in an instant. that great speech by ego, where he finally understands what gusteau really meant when he said that anyone can cook. that cozy little restaurant they end up opening. that beautiful, soothing song in french. ego, no longer a respected critic but clearly much happier, walking into the restaurant knowing the truth and asking remy, ‘surprise me!’, just. it’s so good. i love it.
- is so good at doing impressions that when he did one to Morgan Freeman, it was so accurate Freeman told him, “You ever do that again, I’ll kill you”
- won $356,000 by winning the California State Poker Championships in June 2004 - defeating some of the best poker players in the world in the process
- filmed four movies simultaneously in 2001: Pearl Harbor, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Changing Lanes, and The Sum of All Fears
- began an intense two-hour a day workout regime the day after he was cast as Batman
- received a lifetime ban from playing blackjack at the Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Casino due to his ‘counting cards’ skills
Which tells me:
1. He’s fucking smart. I mean, he can pick up/learn languages pretty well (one of which is Arabic,Damian are you listening and he majored in Middle Eastern Affairs in college) and he is a boss at poker/blackjack.
2. He’s a workaholic. Look, I’ve never made a film (or even a short video) in my entire life, but he did 4 in one year at the same time and I bet he’s done similar workloads throughout his career. Also, see: two-hour a day workout regime for more evidence.
3. He can do good enough impressions to freak the fuck out of God™.
= Ben Affleck is well on his way to being Ultimate Batman
All Hail the mighty Bat!
(edit: someone didn’t like my previous gif-use due to literal-Superman-bashing, and I agreed. Sorry, I didn’t see Supes little face on the wee gif-screen. Here’s some batfleck just being the best Bat he can)
ignore me creepy internet researching the fuck out of him to get my hands on this info. i needed it to defend myself from absolutely no one. fucking fight me
The sound of her laugh is better than any song on the radio and she smiles like it’s her job. She has love letters stashed in the back of her desk addressed to all the boys who have kept her up at night, making her wonder if she’ll ever really be good enough. She drinks hard alcohol in an attempt to forget him, but always finds herself dialing his number after 12:00 AM. She eats French toast sticks before school and smiles at the strangers on the bus. She sings at the top of her lungs and taps her feet to the rhythms dancing in her head. Although she’s hurting, you’d never know. It’s not a love story, but god she wishes it was.
I just recently found out that Buzzfeed has different websites for different countries, WHICH ALSO MEANS THAT THERE’S TONS OF READING MATERIAL IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES! This is really really good for reading practice, since the articles are short, the genre is familiar, and the topics are relevant and interesting. At the moment, there are only 6 languages available (including English).
Uni is only back in March, until there I will review many past subjects and start new ones(finances is one of them), I will increase my french studies and take care of some invests. I am going to work a lot, because I wanna buy some really pretty stuff to myself! Be a good person, work hard, believe in your dreams and realize, you are your best friend! Have a great year flowers!
Honestly but what if Neil is like a languages prodigy who just doesn’t realize it before Palmetto.
Like it was always Just Another Skill for him, not to mention the years kinda blurred together so he never really realized how long it took him to learn German or French.
But then he took Spanish in Palmetto and, when he ended up a whole year ahead of the teacher within two months, he realized that his aptitude for languages is higher than most people.
So he just kinda says to himself ok cool so I’ll just keep learning languages if ever I have a reason to.
Except now he’s Good For Something that isn’t Exy so his reasons become increasingly more ridiculous.
First he starts learning Japanese because Ichirou.
Then Russian with Andrew.
Then Italian because a new fox speaks Italian and hey if he already speaks Spanish and French why not complete the set.
But then he comes home one day with a Korean portfolio because he SWEARS those Korean guys at Starbucks we’re talking shit about him.
And then he learns Latin in 6 months because Jackson from the football team bet him $38 he couldn’t. Eat shit, Jackson.
And when he joins the US court he always makes sure that he speaks the native language wherever he may end up playing which gives him Portuguese, Swedish, Dutch, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, and Greek.
(Mind you this all takes him about 15 years and he has the weirdest accent you’ll ever hear that NO ONE can pinpoint.)
Once he goes pro he creates this cycle of learning a language during the game season, mastering all the mechanics, and then during the off season he takes a month off to go to that language’s country of origin to pick up the slang and a bit of an accent. He doesn’t consider his education complete until a native speaker can’t tell how long he’s been learning. Then he comes back and starts a new language.
He always likes surprising reporters in foreign countries who attempt to translate their questions to English by replying in their native language.
Whenever some fuckwit American interviewer asks him to say something in [insert language] he always recites the Mac & Cheese recipe he uses on cheat days that Kevin fucking hates. Somehow the interviewers never fucking learn.
(God help the boy when he retires from exy and has time to learn even more.)
Basically Neil turning what used to be a tool necessary for survival into an actual hobby that he enjoys and puts effort into because he feels like it and no other reason.
Alright. Listen. This art hoe is a sucker for art hoe aus. Ever since i first read the description of this one painting Viktor makes in the fic I’ve been like”I NEED TO PAINT THIS” but I didn’t have canvases here so it’s watercolour and pencil on paper. i was just thinking about zimbits as parents and i know lots of people hc Bitty to be the one to braid hair and shit if they have a daughter but i actually think it’s Jack ‘110%’ Zimmermann????? Like, yeah Bitty know how do already from helping the girls get ready when figure skating but he doesn’t really enjoy it but Jack already likes playing with hair (i saw a post about him playing with Shitty’s hair once???) he finds it relaxing and so when their daughter’s born he researches the fuck outta different braid styles and practices on Shitty (who at this point has regrown his flow) and he gets really good cuz you can bet your ass that he perfects the fuck out of his french braid technique and he really enjoys trying out different styles. basics all i’m saying is their daughter always has bomb ass looking hair and everyone thinks its Bitty who does it but its really Jack
so i saw a post listing films in foreign languages and i thought i could expand on the list a little bit but my addition got so massive i decided to move it to a separate post. this list will focus on my target languages and feature a little bit of french as well just to spice it up.

Jerrie is a 19 year old YouTuber and Internet personality from Germany with a passion for the French language. In this video he discusses his language learning journey, and describes both the struggles he went through while studying, and some of the tricks and tips he used to integrate French into his everyday life, improve his confidence, and make it “his language”.
I spent a very very veryyy long time translating this video into English and adding subtitles (who knew it could be so fiddly?!) before sharing it on Tumblr because, while I think it is a really good video, I am aware that a lot of you guys don’t speak German. To activate the subtitles, just click on the little icon to the left of the gear at the bottom of the video :~)
You know what I really like about Miraculous Ladybug? Marinette is half-Chinese superhero, a superhero that is a European half-Asian teenage girl. She’s liked by most of her class, the Parisians love her alter-ego, she does good, she’s not stereotyped for her race. As diaspora like myself, she struggles with connecting with her Chinese relatives (especially since living in a non-English speaking country, it makes communication that more difficult), and having Westerners actually having an easier time communicating with them than her! Her race, however, is never a negative issue, and it is shown as still important to her family. Her mom is clearly a Chinese woman, and their home is decorated with a blend of Western and Chinese décor just like mine.
This is just so heart-warming to me!
I have never seen such a high and well-represented protagonism of someone of Asian descent in a non-Asian and non-American setting, and tbh, that is something I kinda need right now, what with this mis- or just plain non-representation of Asians in the West, and due to the generalized American-centrism, even when reclaiming representation for the Asian diaspora, forgetting that we exist all around the globe, and not just in the USA.
