and here he is proving why no man will ever compare

While we’re having a lot of lovely discourse on here about how Joss Whedon writes heroines and how people in general write heroines based on the leaked WW script, I’ like to actually address another part of the problem: how you write the dudes in the story. Because the guys will inevitably interact with the heroine and therefore their writing has an effect on how the film views her.

“Feminist Fantasy” is a term I sometimes see used to describe fantasy/sci fi/supernatural stories that have powerful female characters. Thing is, feminist fantasy, much like feminist theory, evolves as time goes on. What would still be acceptable as FF back in the 90s may come across as cliche or even regressive today because opinions change as time goes on. And that’s a huge part of why the leak WW script rubs people the wrong way, especially how the guys act and how they impact Diana’s role.

The idea of “prove the boys wrong” is one that has been done to death since my childhood. It’s a typical plot or subplot. Girl wants to do X thing, boys say she can’t since she’s a girl, girl proves boys wrong, boys learn their lesson. Here’s the thing: that is no longer feminist fantasy. Because that is real life for so many women, having to constantly prove themselves to men over and over and still be looked over next time due to being a woman and have to do it all over again. Feminist Fantasy has moved into the realm of Fury Road and Wonder Woman 2017–where the woman never has to “prove” anything, at least not to the men on her side. She’s accepted as a capable human without a whole arc proving herself such.

Max never questions Furiosa or even the wives because they are women. The times he does argue or question are purely logistical and have nothing to do with belittling them or asserting his preconceived superiority as a man–he’s usually just checking the plan. While Capable does comfort Nux, it’s Nux who proves himself to the wives by getting the rig rolling again. While Nux learns to see them as people, the onus is not on the wives and other women to make that happen. Steve only offers the barest concern for Diana being a woman, mostly just related to how she dresses in London. Other than that his main issue is the Ares thing which he does not ever use to declare Diana naive and in fact it’s noted in-universe that she may even have a point before Ares shows up. He doesn’t just humor her about Ares, its treated more as a conclusion he disagrees with but can’t prove wrong so they simply operate based on their differing conclusions (Diana’s of “Ludendorf is Ares” and Steve’s of “idc if he is or not we’ve got to stop the chemicals”) until the Ares question becomes unavoidable. The other men similarly don’t belittle Diana or creep on her, the most we get is Sameer’s “ both frightened… and aroused ” joke when she beats a guy up and Sameer jokingly commenting on wanting to see her island.

How the men act is important compared to the WW 06 script, because the 06 script is much more regressive. Both the heroic and villainous men act like creeps and belittle Diana, sexualize Diana, lecture Diana. Essentially, guys treating Diana badly is a thing both the bad guys and the good guys do and she just has to deal with it. Which is just shit, from a feminist perspective. The idea that the guys who are heroes are going to treat women as badly (or even just almost as badly) as the bad guys and the only difference is the heroic guys are the ones who change their minds when she “proves herself” is really, really old. It’s simultaneously discouraging to women and insulting to men by saying that all men are pigs and women just have to deal with that, and it’s the “strong” women who do and change the mind of the “good” men…who are still going to be pigs but maybe less so towards you since you proved yourself. The idea of a guy who’s not a pig is not a thing.

Feminist Fantasy has moved beyond that. Feminist Fantasy is no longer where women are able to constantly prove men wrong–it’s when they don’t have to prove men wrong before being taken seriously as people. Because that shows a future, a past, a world where a woman can simply be accepted as a potential expert, or a warrior, or whatever else the character is doing without having to “prove” it to any man in the vicinity because that still places the men as having power over her. It’s not that they can’t prove men wrong–some still will sometimes and all of them could if directly challenged to–it’s that they don’t have to. Guys who are on their side simply accept that yeah, a woman can be that badass while guys who aren’t on their side, well the opinions those guys have a) don’t matter as much and b) because they’re the bad guys, she’s more focused on stopping their plans than proving her worth to them.

Women having to “prove” ourselves more than men before being taken seriously is not aspirational fantasy anymore–it’s where we are, more often than not. The fantasy is that we only have to prove ourselves to the same degree as any man written in the same situation would, and be treated equally to them. We already know the real world is not there yet (see every “Rey is a Mary-Sue compared to Luke and Anakin” argument ever) but the idea that escapist fiction can’t be a bit ahead of the curve on that should be eyeroll inducing at this point.

Why there HAS to be a 4th episode or A quick reminder of everything that is fucky

I know that lately it has become difficult to keep believing in the existence of a fourth episode, one the fandom has decided to call the Lost Special. So this post has nothing but the goal to lay down the hard facts that prove not only the existence of that episode but also the necessity of it.

This is a collection of reasons why we believe in a Lost Special, all at the same place. No Arg, no speculations, no hard meta, just the irrefutable evidence we’ve gathered that shows how something is terribly wrong at the moment within the show itself. If someone starts doubting, this is supposed to remind them why we’re still in the expectative.

Tighten your belt, we’re going deep inside the show. It’s going to be long, and frankly not everything will make sense but that’s the point: nothing make sense otherwise.

Here is my first question, many people are comparing Lena to the evolution of Morgana. What are the similarities and differences between the two of them characteristically and plot wise. 😍

Ah, yes. Pull up a chair kids because this is a damn good question.

I think we can all pretty much agree that making Lena evil and killing her off would be some of the most lazy and cliche examples of writing ever to be dragged across our screens. We’ve been suffering enough through S2 of Supergirl and this plot twist (not actually a plot twist) would not only most likely be the last straw for us all, but it would be ridiculous.

I know some people like to hate on Lena for different reasons such as not liking SuperCorp or just assuming that she will be just another evil Luthor. I have some words for those that talk crap about my precious cupcake but let’s keep this friendly shall we? Sure, there are some parallels between Lex and Clark vs. Lena and Kara. You can have those. But they aren’t the only parallels that exist. The real plot twist is already in progress friends. The real plot twist is Lena actually being *gay gasp* GOOD! Whaaaaat? Who saw that coming!?

Some that are familiar with Katie’s work pre-Lena like to compare Lena to Morgana. Which is awesome might I add. However, some of these comparisons are cheaply used to explain exactly why Lena will be evil. Nope. The Katie McGrath Character Analyst™ is here to tell you that is weak.

So lets start this out by talking about Morgana. Most of you are familiar, I’m sure but for those that are not or need some refreshing, let’s do a quick fact list/breakdown.

The Lady Morgana Pendragon

Okay, caught up? Cool. Morgana’s story is actually quite tragic (Of course it is! It’s Katie! What do you think this is?) But it is quite powerful as well. It has always been foretold that it was in Morgana’s destiny is to become the evil, all-powerful witch that the grew to be. But she was not always like that, and she didn’t have to be! Morgana started out as a sweet, innocent, yet still fiery young woman that had a huge heart and the love and respect of everyone. She could stand up for herself and had the wits to challenge everyone around her. At that point, the biggest issues in her life were her negative feelings toward Uther’s views of magic and those that had it, and the possibility that she may have magic herself. Let us consider the very important fact that Morgana suffered from several external factors that eventually led to her turn.

Uther Pendragon

Morgana always made it clear that she disliked Uther’s harsh methods when it regarded the treatment of sorcerers in and around Camelot. She didn’t think it was right or fair that an innocent person should be executed simply because of what they are. She was right! There were good people in the world that had magic and did not deserve persecution. However, Uther would hear none of her arguments and often acted aggressively toward Morgana when she spoke against him. At times, Uther went as far as laying hands on Morgana and even locked her in a cell until she apologized for calling him a tyrant and a madman – for speaking the truth. Morgana also learns the truth of how Gorlois (the man she believed to be her father died). He was sent to battle by Uther whom failed to send him the reinforcements he needed. This is something that was very difficult for her to handle. It eventually came to Morgana’s attention that she had been lied to her entire life. She discovered that she was actually Uther’s biological daughter from a time that he was involved with Vivienne (mother of Morgause) and that she was actually the rightful heir to the throne. After hearing the way Uther claimed to feel about her, she tried to give him a chance to come clean. Instead Uther decided to keep his secret saying the people do not need to know, thus denying Morgana and her birthright. After years of his crap, Morgana had enough of him. She hated him. She wanted him dead. Needed him dead. So she turned to our next evil inducing factor, Morgause.

Morgause

Ah Morgause and Morgana. Umm, MorMor? Was that a thing? People shipped them. Shippers, acknowledge and answer me! Was that name a thing?? Wait no, Morcest! That’s what it was. Okay. Got it. Thanks guys. This troubles me.

Anywho, Morgause obviously played a major role in Morgana’s turn. I’ll skip ahead really quick and say that Morgause was literally the only person that had enough opportunity, that actually tried to help Morgana explore her power. She helped Morgana embrace the magic that she was originally so afraid of. When meeting with Morgause one night, she explained that she hated the man the Uther had become and even had a chance to kill him but decided to save him instead. She regretted that decision. Morgause saw this and the trust Morgana has invested in her as an opportunity to use Morgana’s body as a vessel that hosted an enchantment that proved to be dangerous to Camelot. Morgana was of course, unaware of this and was not intentionally hurting anyone. This led to the final straw and evil inducing factor, Merlin.

Merlin (and Gaius and Kilgharrah)

I will keep this short because again, Merlin was a man that Morgana originally placed great faith and trust in. They went through a lot together and Morgana trusted him to keep her secret of having magic. Where did our “hero” go wrong? He lied to her. Kept the secret of having magic away from her despite knowing how he could help her. He decided to keep it a secret because the old man and the crazy locked up dragon told him so. Bad choice Merlin. Upon discovering Morgana’s alleged involvement in Camelot’s toil, he just up and poisoned her. That’s it. Tricked her. Poisoned her. Sat there and cried while he murdered the woman that was supposed to be his friend. Rude. Morgause was the one that came to her rescue. Case in point: If Merlin had been honest with Morgana from the beginning, she most likely would not have turned to Morgause. She would not have felt so alone. She would not have been taken away by Morgause and shaped into the evil, angry, and vindictive sorceress that she became. Merlin even acknowledged this point later.

The result: Evil!Morgana

So how does this all compare to our lil cupcake Lena Luthor?? Let’s see.

Firstly, this is tough because we had 5 seasons of our beautiful Morgana and only have ohhh about an hour or less of Lena (crime against humanity). Let me see what I can do, Chance.

Glasses

Since I accidentally started this whole “Anti with glasses” thing, I decided I would write a little something about it. Also, this is based off of something @markired sent me and I guess there’s some Danti implied in here? Take it as you will, whether that’s platonic or romantic.

Also, it’s past 2am here. I tried and I’m an amateur writer.

Anyway, Enjoy! x

Anti needs glasses.

Just like Jack, he needs a pair to see things in the distance. However, his eyesight is worse. That being said, he needs a pair that is stronger than the ones Jack already has and needs to get himself his own pair. He doesn’t like it – oh, he hates having to wear glasses, but contacts drive him up the damn walls so they are out of the question. He thinks they make him look nerdy and less intimidating.

No one except Anti knows that he needs them. He acts like he can see the world crystal clear when in reality, he can hardly see the street signs. It isn’t exactly a good thing when it comes to executing kills because his precision is off and he often misses his shots. This in turn frustrates Dark because he hired the guy to do the dirty work and he’s missing the target – what the fuck?

After nearly losing a seventh victim that month, Dark finally approaches Anti about it.

“Anti, the execution of your kills hasn’t been… extraordinary lately. Is there a reason for that?”

“No,” Anti grumbles, crossing his arms along his chest, “n’ quit questionin’ my killing methods. You won’t even do the kills yerself so don’t be complainin’.”

Anti proceeds to plop himself down on their couch, flipping himself so he’s upside down. His feet hang off the top and his head is hanging off the seat, watching his hair fall back and dangle in the open. It’s evident that he doesn’t want to talk about the subject any further.

But since when does Dark ever really care about Anti’s childish denial?

A deep hum vibrates through Dark’s chest as he scrutinises the green-haired male, completely disregarding his attempt at an insult. Anti, who’s fully aware he’s being watched, lifts his head to lock eyes with Dark. He squints them dangerously.

“The fuck are ye lookin’ at?” he spits out.

“You need glasses, don’t you?” Dark suddenly says, straightening his posture and canting his head to the side, “that’s why you’re having trouble executing kills properly and squinting at everything. You can’t see properly.”

“I can see fine!” Anti barks, pushing himself back up onto the couch and propping himself up with his elbows. His slightly sharper teeth become more evident as he scowls at Dark.

“Oh, is that so? In that case, I suppose you won’t have any trouble telling me what that sign across the street says?” Dark lifts a brow as he points out the window at a little yellow sign with bold black letters on it.

Anti looks over his shoulder at the sign and almost visibly pales. There’s no way he can read that. It’s just far enough for the letters to be too blurry to read. They just look like a black cloud on a yellow sign.

“I don’t need to prove myself to an old man,” Anti sneers, huffing and sliding off the couch. Before Dark can bring up the subject again, the green-haired male storms off into another room somewhere in the house, slamming the door shut behind him.

“Idiot,” Dark sighs, deciding to let the topic go for the time being.

A week passes by after that and yet another nearly failed kill. Dark didn’t get frustrated this time because he now knows the source of the problem, he just has to find out how to fix it. Even though he finds it absolutely ridiculous to have to chase after Anti for being a big baby who’s in complete denial, if it will help his case then he is more than willing.

That, and teasing Anti is just so much fun.

“Is it because you don’t like glasses? There are certainly contacts out there that you could use,” Dark suddenly inquires over dinner one night.

Anti freezes in his movements and peers up at his friend, a look of annoyance on his face. He grits his teeth and gives Dark the silent treatment.

“Even so, anything is better than being partially blind, don’t you think?” the other continues, slowly enjoying his meal as though his friend’s annoyance was nothing but a speck of dust on his shoulder for him to brush off.

There’s a moment of silence between the two. The only sound in the entire room is that of their utensils against their plates. Anti stops eating for a minute and simply sits there, picking at the meat in front of him.

“Don’t be stupid, Dark, I can’t wear glasses. I’m not a nerd,” Anti scoffs, eyes stuck to his plate, “n’ fuck contacts, those little shits are annoying as all fuck.”

Dark doesn’t say anything after that but instead just lifts his eyes to look at the man sitting across from him at the table. He almost wants to laugh at Anti’s comment but refrains from doing so. His mind is at work throughout the rest of the meal.

After that night, Dark eventually goes through the torturous process of discovering Anti’s prescription. It takes almost a full week before he gets the results but when he does, he feels more victorious than he has in quite some time.

And he decides to get Anti some glasses.

Dark is seated in his favorite chair one evening, relaxing while enjoying a good book. However, he’s having trouble concentrating on the letters in front of him. A disheartened sigh escapes his lips at the realisation that he won’t be able to continue.

Suddenly, a familiar voice makes its way through the once silent hallway.

DARK, WHAT THE FUCK ARE THESE!?” Anti hollers from his bedroom. Dark can’t help the smug grin that spreads across his lips.

“They’re glasses, Anti. Try them on,” Dark urges, his tone calm compared to the other.

There’s a series of quick footsteps that grow louder as Anti approaches. Dark turns his head towards the open doorway to see Anti storming in, eyes practically glowing with annoyance.

I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU THAT I DIDN’T WANT ‘EM. I LOOK LIKE A FUCKIN’ NERD, DARK!” He yells, the pair of black glasses in his hand. His other is balled into a fist, practically drawing blood from how tightly it’s closed. “DON’T YOU LISTEN TO ME!?

In a fit of childish annoyance, Anti lifts his hand with the glasses held tightly between his fingers. In the split second it takes for Dark to realise what’s about to happen, Anti’s hand comes toward the ground in full force.

Dark has never moved so fast in his life. It’s as though he’s a shadow, glitching from his spot in the chair to Anti’s side. Dark’s large hand grips Anti’s wrist tightly, preventing him from throwing the glasses onto the ground and breaking them. His nearly black eyes seem to flash red for a moment.

YoU wiLL nOt breAK tHeSE, unDersTOoD?”

Dark’s voice is deep, harsh and slicing. Like the biting cold of winter, it nips at Anti’s childish conscience and fills him with fear. His hot breath tickles Anti’s ear and he shivers, eyes widening in realisation at what he was about to do and how pissed Dark is now. The hold on Anti’s wrist is bone crushing and the green-haired male grits his teeth.

Dark slowly releases Anti’s wrist and brings his hand back to his side. After taking in a slow breath, he looks Anti in the eyes with an expressionless face.

“Now, try them on,” he tries again, his voice much softer than before.

Anti is still hesitant and it shows. He glances down at the glasses in his hand with an expression of disgust. Dark rolls his eyes – he’s losing his patience.

“Anti, wearing glasses does not make you a nerd,” Dark says deeply, reaching over to a small table next to his chair. On it sits a pair of glasses which Anti has surprisingly never seen before. Dark slides them onto his face and pushes them up his nose gracefully with his finger. “See?”

Anti blinks wordlessly at Dark. His eyes are wide and are scanning Dark’s face over and over again. He’s never seen this before and Dark isn’t able to tell whether this reaction is good or bad.

“Now you really look like an old man, Dark,” Anti giggles, the sound echoing around him and layering over itself.

Dark’s brows rise and his jaw sets. “Anti, you prick, I’m going to-”

“But you’re okay-lookin’ for an old man, I guess,” he then shrugs, a smug smirk on his face.

Dark’s anger and the compliment swirl inside of him and he shuts his mouth, muttering some profanities under his breath. He looks away for nothing but a second and when his eyes return to meet Anti’s, he’s met with a sight he never thought he would see.

Anti is wearing his glasses.

“You don’t look too bad yourself, kiddo,” he says, the corner of his lips twitching up into a smile.

Anti shrugs off the compliment and quickly takes the glasses off, grimacing.

“Yeah, whatever,” he mumbles as he walks off to his room.

Dark, now feeling satisfied, sits back down into his chair and resumes his reading – he can see the words much better now.

Both Dark and Anti begin to wear their glasses more often now, even when they don’t necessarily need them.

I LOVE THIS PUN SO MUCH  😂

But actually this ties in pretty well to a rant I have, so brace yourself:

So, as far as literal position during sex, I honestly don’t care. They have that level of trust where it seems like they’d probably switch and enjoy both, and that’s that. However, the label Sub/Dom for me is more of a personality-related label. So I want to talk about Yuuri’s personality, and why he’s dominant. Dominant, here, meaning “having power and influence over others.” Others, here, meaning mostly Victor. This power and influence and be in the form of love, attraction, respect, fear, etc. depending on the character. For example, Victor literally worships Yuuri, especially when he’s in Eros Mode. It’s fucking adorable, but more importantly, it means Victor enjoys that confident and assertive side of him. Not only that, but Victor is the kind of person who wants and/or needs to be told what to do if he doesn’t know how to act. Others, such as Yuri and Minami, look up to him. To everyone saying Yuuri is weak and submissive, are you blind?! I know that’s harsh, but there is so much evidence in the show that Yuuri is a dominant person. Without a doubt. No question about it. Like, you really have to be blind not to notice. Here are some screenshots from key moments to help me prove my point:

- the moment I realized Yuuri is not the shy weakling we all thought he was and also the moment I fell in love with him.

- the first inklings of Yuuri coming out his shell with Victor, similar to that scene in episode 6.

- Yuuri embracing the role of a seductress and liking it, the target of his seduction obviously being Victor.

- Yuuri being comfortable enough with Victor to tell him what he really wants and being able to see through Victor’s bullshit facades.

- Victor wanting to see seductive, Eros-personified Yuuri.

- confidence is sexy.

- people look up to Yuuri and want to be like him.

- a healthy dosage of Yuuri-worship. Yuuri could’ve put the balm on himself, but what Victor asks is “why, when this way is so much better?”

- confidence is great wow.

- Yuuri is able to make Victor “too rich for his own good” Nikiforov to sit in economy class with him.

- Victor is thirsty and weak for Yuuri at all times, and therefore wants Yuuri to use that seductive charm.

- episode 6 is such a goldmine, do I even need to explain these ones?

- Yuuri telling Victor what to do because he doesn’t know. Also, Yuuri is comfortable enough with Victor to yell at him and tell him off.

- Yuuri being extra and badass and confident af, which leads to Victor not even being able to contain all the love he feels for this man.

- Yuuri is in 100% badass mode right now, mark all of Russia down as scared and horny.

- Victor, worshipping Yuuri again. This time literally on his knees.

- Yuuri isn’t some sad puppy who needs Victor to function. He’s strong and independent and sure of his abilities. Please, for the love of god, never characterize him any other way.

- Victor is so whipped lmao.

- Yuuri once again feeling comfortable enough to call out Victor’s bullshit.

- Victor being shook af by Yuuri’s confidence. I think it’s such an important detail that Yuuri was the one who bought these rings instead of Victor.

- drunk and even more confident Yuuri. And a very whipped Victor.

- Victor once again doing whatever Yuuri wants because how can he ever say no the love of his life?

- even JJ finds Yuuri intimidating. I mean look at that decievingly innocent-looking smile.

- Yuuri telling Victor once again to be real with him and then Victor motivating Yuuri through a joking challenge. Yuuri sees the joke motivation for what it is, rather than an insult, because that’s where his relationship with Victor is now.

- Yuuri is badass and just goes for it. Embraces the idea of surpassing Victor that he shied away from in episode 3. And he succeeds; he gets the new record.

- Yuri looking up to Yuuri, in his own Yurio-ish way.

- one last scene of Yuuri being a determined, assertive, confident BAMF.

Compare this to the beginning, how much he’s changed and opened up since then. Just look at the way Yuuri is all seductive and/or confident and/or determined. Look at how people look up to him and respect him. Look at how Victor just melts at every little thing Yuuri does and asks because he’s so in love. If that wasn’t enough, let me just point out these quotes from an interview with Yuuri and Victor’s voice actors:

Suwabe (Victor): Yuuri’s looks can be deceiving - inside, he’s a relentless, aggressive carnivore. He’s got layers. Like cabbage rolls do. (laughs)

Toyonaga (Yuuri): Outside of the competitions, Yuuri sometimes acts as if he was Viktor’s nagging mother. (laughs)

Yup, you read that right. Yuuri is a relentless, aggressive carnivore. Really, how much more evidence do you need? Just take a second and think about it. I will concede that Yuuri may have seemed kinda submissive towards the beginning of the show, but there is no way in hell that he is now. In the beginning, he didn’t have Victor. He didn’t have someone who he trusted and felt comfortable enough with to bring out his bossy, dominant side. But now he does. He’s not nervous and scared anymore, he’s aggressive and strong. Our shy little cinnamon roll has transformed into a confident sinnamon roll. Character Development™ at its finest.

A/N: Wow I actually have no idea what I was doing when I was writing this, but I kind of like it hahaha. Also, this part is written in first person which usually I hate writing in, but I thought it suited the style of the story more :) By the way I love Irene so much, she’s such a babe. Enjoy!

2nd February, 10:22am
Ah, February 2nd. I remember it as if it was only yesterday. It was rather warm for Winter, so my friends and I had bought lunch and decided to eat it down by the river. It was rare for all five of us to have a day free of college classes, so we wanted to make the most of it.

“I’m just going over here,” I mumbled, more to myself than anyone, grabbing my phone and heading towards the river’s edge. I’d spotted a single pink flower floating with the current peacefully, and being a photography major, I couldn’t miss the chance to capture this moment digitally.

“Don’t fall in!” A voice cried from behind me; I felt their large hands push against my back but they grabbed my elbows just before I toppled into the cold water below.

“Sehun!” I bellowed, trying to look as angry as possible when I turned around to face my immature friend. However, I couldn’t stop myself from grinning when I saw the bewildered look cross his face: it soon disappeared when he realised I wasn’t actually mad at him. “That was a close one, Y/N. You’ve got to be more careful,” Sehun joked.

“You’re an idiot,” I quipped back. “I don’t know how I put up with you.”

“You do it out of love,” Sehun replied. You see, Sehun and I had been friends for as long as either of us could remember. Born just ten days apart (he was older and always gave me shit for it), we’d become instant best friends. We stuck with each other throughout middle school and high school, and now we were roommates in college (don’t ask me why I agreed to room with Sehun, he never washes the dishes. Ever.)

“You two, stop flirting and come join us for a selfie,” Baekhyun called out.

“We’re not flirting,” Sehun and I groaned in unision, earning chuckles from Baekhyun and the two other boys, Chanyeol and Suho. “Yeah, my mum wants a picture of my friends to prove I don’t hang out with pot-heads and alcoholics,” Chanyeol added, getting his phone into optimum selfie-position.

“I’m pretty sure Y/N is a drug dealer in between her studies,” Suho laughed as Sehun and I joined them, gaining a playful glare from me.

It’s funny to think that I originally wanted nothing to do with Chanyeol, Baekhyun, and Suho. Sehun had befriended the three in one of his music lectures, and when I first met them I believed they were nothing more than rowdy, immature womanisers. With a lot of convincing from Sehun (boy would not shut up about it), I managed to give the boys a chance and am now proud (albeit embarrassed at times) to call them my close friends. In fact, I’m pretty sure Baekhyun and I have a thing now. Don’t quote me, but he’s developed a habit of being really touchy-feely with me recently, but we’re not dating. I didn’t have many girl friends at all - I didn’t need them. It’s hard enough to focus on college, my part-time job, and socialising as it is, I don’t need the added factor of girl drama.

As we all gathered around Chanyeol, I felt my phone vibrate in my back pocket, followed shortly by a loud ‘ding’. After we managed to take a couple of nice pictures together without much incident (ignoring the fact Baekhyun screamed “SUHO YOU’RE STANDING ON MY FOOT!” and Sehun hit my stomach because I was “covering his beautiful face” with my “man shoulders”), I pulled out my own phone and read the text.

“Sehun, looks like we have interest in our spare room!” I exclaimed, showing the text to the blond.

’Hi, Y/N, my name is Irene Bae and I saw you were looking for a roommate for your apartment? I’m interested! I’m at the café near the university right now and I’d be happy to chat with you’,” Sehun read out loud before adding, “she’s there now?”

“I guess,” I replied, quickly texting Irene back.

“Are you guys leaving now?” Suho questioned, the obvious disappointment on his face matching that of Chanyeol and Baekhyun’s too.

“I guess so. Come on, Y/N, if we hurry we can catch the train and get there a bit earlier,” Sehun said, grabbing my hand and tugging me away from our friends.

“We’ll catch up with you later, I promise!” I shouted back to the three. And as I turned back around, I swear I caught Baekhyun wink at me.

2nd February, 10:37am

I quickly brushed a hand through my windswept hair as Sehun and I entered the quiet, cosy café. I scanned the shop, smiling when I made eye contact with a couple of people from my lectures. “Where do you think she is?” Sehun muttered, urging me forward towards the register attendant.

“Not sure. I might go have a look around and see if I can find her,” I replied, breaking away from Sehun to sweep the café with my eyes. Sehun nodded and waited to order our usual drinks while I shimmied past crowded tables towards the back of the building where I knew it was less populated. And there, sitting at an empty booth facing away from me, sipping a cup of coffee, was a girl. I knew it was her instantly - I would have definitely noticed a girl with bright bubblegum pink hair like hers before. She had headphones in and was nodding her head ever so slightly, completely absorbed in her own world.

I gulped loudly and built up the courage to go up and talk to her. She noticed me and pulled out her headphones quickly, flashing me a dazzling smile.

“You must be Y/N? I’m Irene. Take a seat.” The girl gestured to the seat opposite her and I sidled in, trying to act as at ease as Irene was. She gave me another wicked smile and asked whether I wanted to order anything; I explained Sehun was already doing that.

I suddenly felt very underdressed in my heavy sweater compared to Irene, you know, as if she was Cinderella and I was one of the ugly step sisters. Every time Irene moved, the glint from the fluorescent lights reflected off her dark blue contacts. It was really distracting.

“You’re very pretty, Y/N,” Irene commented. As she spoke, I realised I’d barely said a word to her, choosing to stare instead - but it seemed Irene had been doing the same thing.

“Thanks. I like your hair. It’s very…interesting,” I replied, causing Irene to laugh. And as I sat there listening to the melodic, high pitched sound, I felt all my worries disappear. Irene explained how she’d actually been dared to dye her hair, and I realised Irene seemed lovely and I would have no problems having her as a roommate.

“Oh hey, you must be Irene,” Sehun said, squeezing in beside me and passing my hot chocolate over. “It’s really nice to meet you.”

“You too!” Irene replied. “Seoul really is a beautiful city.”

“You’re not from around here?” I questioned, sipping at the scalding drink in front of me.

“No, I’m from Daegu actually,” said Irene. As Sehun and I listened to her tell hilarious stories from her childhood, I barely noticed time passing. In fact, it was as if time had stopped completely - we’d been let into Irene’s own little world and nothing but us three mattered. She really was a captivating person. Sehun and I asked Irene all the basic questioned you’d ask any potential housemate, and we told her we’d contact her  soon - though it was clear we’d both made our minds up already.

“She’s so lovely!” I gushed the minute we left the café. “She’s the best candidate we’ve seen, Se.”

“I agree,” Sehun said before playfully pushing my shoulder. “If she moves in, maybe you’ll finally have a friend of your own - a girl nonetheless!”

9th March:

“I’m pretty sure this is the last one,” I exclaimed, placing one of Irene’s heavier boxes on the floor in her new room. Irene poked her head over the side of her bed and flashed her signature smile at me. “You’re the best, Y/N. Seriously, your help is much appreciated,” she replied.

“No problem.” I stood there for a moment,  watching my new roommate pull out handfuls of books from one of her boxes and slam them down on her desk. I turned to the door and said over my shoulder, “I’ll leave you to it then.”

“Wait, Y/N. Come and keep me company. Unpacking boxes can get super boring by myself,” Irene whined, looking up at me with large, innocent eyes. “And once I’m done here, maybe we could paint each others nails?” After seeing the sceptical look on my face she added, “you know, girly things.”

“Girly things…” I repeated slowly.

“We don’t have to if you don’t want to! I just thought it would be nice to get to spend some time together, just us two, since you Sehun have been so nice in showing me around Seoul. But we don’t have to if you don’t want too.”

I was starting to realise already that Irene had a way to get people to do what she wanted them to do, and I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not. However, I did think it would be nice to get to know Irene more.

“No, it sounds nice! It’s just, I’ve never really had friends who were girls before. I don’t even have any sisters,” I admitted, joining my roommate on the floor.

“That’s a shame, Y/N,” Irene replied, grabbing a bottle of baby pink nail polish. “Because girls are really fun. If you ever have boy troubles or friend drama or just want to talk, I’m here.” The smile Irene gave me was so genuine, and I knew I’d just made a very crucial friend.

I could feel Irene’s endless smile directed at me as I careful painted her fingernails. I was talking about nothing really - my family, my university major, life in Seoul. And Irene listened to every word I said. It was weird. I’d barely known Irene a month but it felt as if we had been friends since time began. There was no awkwardness between us, oddly enough, and I suddenly realised what I’d been missing by only having guy friends.

“Irene, looks like you forgot one box,” Sehun stated, poking his head into Irene’s room and grinned when he saw us lounging on the floor.

“Excuse you, I was just in the middle of educating Irene which boys to stay away from and which would be more than happy to ‘help her study’, if you know what I mean,” I winked back, eliciting a groan from Sehun.

“You’re impossible, Y/N. I’ll go get that box for you,” he called, backing away from the room. Once he was out of earshot, Irene turned to me and said, “you two are a cute couple.”

At first I thought I’d misheard her, so I asked Irene to repeat what she said. She did, and when I was sure she thought Sehun and I were dating, I couldn’t help the laughter bubbling out. As I rolled around on the carpet, clutching my stomach, Irene simply gave me a confused smile. “Did I say something?” You’re not having a seizure, are you?”

Her comment only made me laugh harder, and it took me a good minute to regain my composure. “We’re not…Sehun and I aren’t dating,” I managed to say through giggles.

“You’re not? Ah, that’s so embarrassing!” Irene cried, burying her face into the soft pillow beside her to stifle her own laughter.

“Wheeew, I can’t breathe,” I gasped just as Sehun returned with Irene’s box. Seeing his face, and the utter idea of Sehun and I dating set me off into another fit.

“Y/N’s broken, she won’t stop laughing!” Irene shrieked, hitting me repeatedly with the pillow and soon collapsing beside me. My ribs ached, cheeks stung, and I was gasping like a fish, but it was an amazing feeling. I’d never laughed so hard in my life - I didn’t want this moment to end.

18th April:

Irene ran a hand over her velvet skirt, smoothing it down for the hundredth time in the past minute. “Seriously, Ren, you’re going to ruin the material on your skirt if you keep rubbing it,” I stated, grabbing Irene’s hand and pulling it away from her clothes.

“I know, I know,” she sighed, giving me a half-hearted smile. “I’m just nervous.” I turned from my place on the bench to face her. We were waiting at the local bowling alley and Irene had been worried about this moment for the whole day. Sehun had suggested that we introduce Irene to Suho, Chanyeol, and Baekhyun, considering they basically lived at our apartment anyway.

“Nervous? Why?” I chuckled.

“You just talk about your friends all the time; they seem so cool.”

“Trust me,” I snorted loudly. “They are definitely not cool.”

And as if they’d heard me insult them, the three boys, along with Sehun, sauntered into the bowling alley. “Who’s the one on the left, Y/N?” Irene whispered furiously to me, brushing a stray strand of hair away from her face.

“Uh, that’s Baekhyun. Why?” I replied, waving at my friends.

“Because he’s beautiful,” Irene gushed, clasping a hand over her mouth. The boys approached us and introduced themselves to Irene, and I suddenly felt rather queasy at the idea of her possibly having a crush on my friend, but I managed to ignore it.

“Okay, let’s get this game started then!” Chanyeol exclaimed, eliciting cheers from the rest of us. Suho went first, and to our utmost surprise he got a strike on his very first go. Baekhyun joked about leaving now since Suho had clearly won already, and then it was Sehun’ s turn. He released the bowling ball with such force, but still managed to get a gutterball. Twice.

We all booed at him as he sat down, an embarrassed smile covering his face. I knocked down a cool seven pins (I’d never been that great at ten-pin bowling anyway). Baekhyun got the same as me, and Chanyeol managed to knock down nine. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves - until Irene stood up to take her turn.

The first ball she bowled zoomed straight into the gutter so she turned around to face the boys. “I’m not very good at this, would someone be kind enough to help me?” She toyed her bottom lip with her teeth and batted her eyelids, shutting the boys up instantly, their joking insults towards each other style of bowling fading into nothing.

I narrowed my eyes at Irene suspiciously, trying to work out exactly what she was up to. Irene and I had been to this exact bowling alley a few weeks ago, and I remember I was groaning 95% of the time because Irene kept getting strikes. If she was so good at this, why was she pretending she wasn’t?

The boys shared a look quickly, silently deciding who would be the lucky one (A/N: wow that unintentional pun) to help Irene before Baekhyun stood up, wiping his palms on his jeans. I wasn’t all that surprised Baekhyun had been appointed the task by the boys’ silent jury - he’d sworn off dating after a bad breakup awhile ago, and I guess his friends just wanted him to get back out there again.

Irene giggled as Baekhyun stood behind her, wrapped his arms around her waist, and swung her arm backwards to bowl. Team Baekrene got a strike. Of course they did. Baekhyun gave me a small smile as he walked back to his seat, while Irene leaned into me as she sat back down, whispering something about how strong Baekhyun apparently was.

And it continued like this - Baekhyun would pull Irene close to him, helping her bowl even though she did not need his help at all, and Baekhyun would glance in my direction after he had, confusing and frustrating me at the same time.

“They make such a good couple,” Sehun commented to me, watching our friends basically feeling each other up adoringly.

“Yeah, they sure do,” I grumbled sarcastically. Sehun gave me a look of surprise before chuckling. “No way. No damn way. Y/N is jealous? Of Irene?”

“I’m not jealous!” I hissed back, but it was clear to both Sehun and I that I was blatantly lying. The truth was, I could feel my insides bubbling with envy every time Baekhyun flashed his bright smile at Irene, and I felt myself gagging when she giggled like an immature schoolgirl in response. Maybe I felt this way because Baekhyun was undoubtedly an incredibly beautiful human, no one could argue against that. Maybe it was because Irene had literally been in Seoul for two months and was getting more male attention than I had in my whole 22 years of living in Seoul. Or maybe it was because I’ d never had a proper boyfriend before despite my best efforts, and Baekhyun was the only boy who’d ever really showed me any attention (he had a way of making me feel so special even though we weren’t dating). Maybe it was because Baekhyun’s flirting was the closest thing I’d had to a boyfriend, and yet all Irene had to do was bat her eyelids and Baekhyun was drooling all over her. Who knows.

I tried my best to focus on the game at hand, but trust me, it was very hard with Baekhyun and Irene so obviously flirting right beside me. That was Baekhyun and I’s thing (although we were never that conspicuous about it). Despite this, everyone else seemed to be having a good time - Suho was crowned Ten Pin Bowling King, while Irene and Baekhyun not-so-discernibly swapped numbers. Everyone left with smiles on their faces - which is all I cared about. No matter the reason behind those smiles.

13th May, 3:17PM:

“Y/N, have you been on Irene’s Facebook recently?” Sehun called as I entered our apartment; he was curled up under a blanket on the couch and was stuffing his face with buttery popcorn.

“You’re an animal,” I laughed, dropping my bag and jumping next to him on the couch. The Hangover was playing quietly on the television, although Sehun wasn’t paying it any attention. “Why, should I have been checking her Facebook?”

Sehun shifted and thrust his phone in my face, watching me expectantly. I had to steady his swaying hand to see that he had Irene’s Facebook open to one of her more recent statuses, posted yesterday evening.

‘He asked me out, I said yes! #feelingblessed #luckiestgirlalive #cutestcoupleever,’ the status read. Attached below it was a photo of the new couple;  Baekhyun’s lips were on Irene’s cheek, her eyes were scrunched up, and she had an adorable smile on her face. It was true, they were the cutest couple ever.

I felt a feeling stir inside me, an emotion that I couldn’t even begin to describe at the time but that, in hindsight, should have been a big warning sign for me to keep my distance. But I couldn’t see that at the time - all I could see was my two best friends being all lovey-dovey cute together. It was gross.

“Holy, look how many likes it’s got!” Sehun exclaimed, his eyes bulging out at the nearly 700 figure. “I’m not surprised,” I replied lowly. “Irene’s become so popular recently.” Sehun simply chuckled. “It’s not all bad: we’ve also become a lot popular too.”

It was true. Irene may have gained lots of friends, but I doubted she would ever want to replace Sehun and I as her best friends. She would often invite us out to all these different events with her new friends (most of whom were girls, which was awesome for me because I gained a lot more female friends). As well as meeting tons of new people (including two charismatic boys named Bambam and Taeyong who often studied with me at the library), my popularity had risen to extraordinary levels. I suddenly found myself being invited to all sorts of parties I’d never been able to even dream of attending before, and I had my own group of friends now that didn’t consist totally of Sehun’s friends. He was right; Irene’s sudden popularity wasn’t all bad.

Sehun and I had just settled down enough to focus on the movie playing when the front door clicked open and laughter poured into our apartment.

“-reaction was absolutely hilarious!” An unfamiliar voice roared, so I peered over Sehun’s shoulder and saw the voice belonged to one of Irene’s many friends. She was very pretty, and I recognised her from around university. I could tell her and Irene were close. I think her name was Willow? Or maybe it was Wanda? I forget some times.

“I know right! It was to die for. Thanks for the ride home, Wendy!” Irene said, hugging her friend before shutting the front door.

Ah, Wendy.

“Hey guys!” Irene greeted, although she barely looked our way before sauntering down the hallway to her room. I glanced at Sehun who shrugged, turning his attention back to the TV.

13th May, 4:56PM:

“Anyone home?” I questioned, banging my knuckles on Irene’s door loudly, causing the ajar door to swing open with a creak. Our movie had finished and we had expected Irene would have come out to tell us about her exciting news by now - but she hadn’t. So Sehun and I decided to investigate ourselves.

“Come in~” Irene sang out in response. She was spread out on her bed but repositioned herself so she was now sitting crosslegged. She was tapping away furiously at her phone, undoubtedly texting one of her close friends, and she was unable to stop a wide smile from covering her face.

“So…when were you going to tell us you and Baekhyun were dating?” Sehun asked excitedly, waving his phone in her face much like he had done with me. Her smile suddenly faded upon hearing Sehun’s question, which caught me off guard.

“Were you even going to tell us at all?” I gestured to the date the status had been posted; over 24 hours ago.

“Well, I mean yeah, eventually, but…” Irene started, but soon trailed off. She stared at us both before giving me a sympathetic smile. “But not straight away.”

“Not straight away?” Sehun repeated, furrowing his brows in confusion.

“Well, I probably would have told you, Sehun. But I might not have told Y/N straight away,” Irene stated bluntly. I stared at her in shock, and I’m pretty sure my jaw hit the floor. What did she mean by that? Weren’t we supposed to be best friends?

Irene must have noticed the upset look on my face because she quickly added, “only because I know how close you are to Baekhyun, and I didn’t want you to feel like I was stealing him away from you or anything.” Irene glanced down at her bedsheet sheepishly, and I could tell she was being honest but it still didn’t lessen the pain and embarrassment I felt.

And my deep blush must have gave me away because Sehun patted my hand and rushed on, “well, I know both Y/N and I are extremely happy for you two.” Irene smiled brightly and uttered her thanks, so Sehun continued. “By the way, don’t forget we’re going to the baseball game on Saturday night!”

I wasn’t a major sports fanatic, but Sehun had managed to score a few free tickets and thought it would be fun for the three of us to go together. “Oh, um, I can’t sorry,” Irene mumbled. Suddenly, her phone was very interesting to her again.

“You…can’t?” Sehun shot me a brief look that seemed to say ‘is this girl serious’, before turning his attention to our uncomfortable roommate. “Yeah, sorry. I think Nayeon is having a party that night. Sorry I didn’t tell you earlier.” Irene was doing an awful lot of apologising and had suddenly become the queen of avoiding eye contact.

“Oh, that’s okay then,” Sehun claimed, but I could tell he was hurt, if only slightly. Anyone could - his voice was barely above a whisper. “I think I have something to do now,” he added, retreating from the room and heading back to the lounge.

“Look, Y/N, I’m really sorry that I can’t come to the game with you guys anymore, but you need to understand we spend so much time together anyway!” Irene said, looking up and finally meeting my harsh gaze. She was apologising, but there was no hint of remorse in her eyes. She knew how much this game meant to Sehun, and she didn’t even care.

“Yeah, I know,” I replied sarcastically. “That’s what best friends do, generally.”

15th June:

I have no idea why I agreed to this. Absolutely no clue. You see, Irene invited me out for brunch with her at this cute little restaurant in the middle of Seoul; but conveniently forgot to tell me that it was actually a double date and she’d organised one of her friends to be my date.

So here I was, on a double date with Irene, Baekhyun, and some guy named Lee Jooheon. Jooheon seemed nice enough (and he was pretty attractive too), but I was so furious Irene had tricked me into going on this stupid double date that I couldn’t focus on anything he was saying.

“So yeah, as I was saying, Y/N hasn’t really had a boyfriend before, so you’d be her first!” Irene gushed, causing a hot blush to form on my face. I’d only been here for ten minutes and already I wished I could melt into the seat and never show my face anywhere ever again. However, I couldn’t do that.

“I don’t think he really needs to know that, Irene,” I hissed.

“Nonsense!” Irene laughed loudly, the sort of obnoxious sound a group of middle aged women would make when one of them tells a really terrible joke. I grumbled under my breath and noticed Baekhyun was watching me. He had a small smirk on his face and winked when I looked up. We sat across from each other in our little booth and this was definitely not the first time I’d caught him staring at me.

In fact, he managed to maintain eye contact even when Irene pressed herself up against him and placed a lazy kiss on his cheek. Every time Irene said something embarrassing about me, Baekhyun would nudge my foot with his own under the table and give me a small smile. At least someone else realised that what Irene was doing was humiliating.

“If you’ll excuse me, I just have to use the bathroom quickly,” Jooheon said, giving me a small smirk before escaping to the toilets. “Ah, I’ll go pay for the bill,” Baekhyun added, following Jooheon’s actions by giving us a small grin before departing. Irene gave him a big smile in response, but it quickly disappeared once he was out of earshot.

Leaning closer to me across the table, Irene growled, “do you think I’m stupid, Y/N?” She was so close to me that I could feel her breath hot on my cheek, and I pulled back quickly. “W-what? Why do you say that?”

“Do you think I don’t see the way you look at Baekhyun? The way you’ve been oogling at him this whole time? I’ve tried to set you up with a lovely guy, but you can’t keep your eyes off my boyfriend. I knew you were a threat, Y/N. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll back off.”

I could feel hot tears pricking at my eyes and I blinked rapidly, started at how cruel my supposed “best friend” was being. I desperately wanted to defend myself, but the lump in my throat made that near impossible. I could only hold Irene’s glare as her glossy lips curled up into a smirk.

“Glad we’re on the same page,” she whispered, just as both boys returned.

“Sweet, everything is paid for,” Baekhyun smiled. He glanced between Irene and I and rushed to add, “is everything alright?”

“Yeah, Baekhyunnie. Nothing’s wrong.”

26th July:

Ah yes. Possibly the absolute worst day of my life. Well, more like the day my perfect life crumbled and shit hit the fan.

Jooheon and I had swapped numbers after our nightmare of a double date, and we’d stayed in contact even though I explained I wasn’t interested in dating him (he was so sweet about it too, bless!). The other day, Jooheon had invited Irene and I to a party his friend Wonho was hosting. But since Irene hadn’t really talked to me since she accused me of trying to steal her boyfriend, I didn’t tell her about our invitation (I figured she would find out about the party eventually away), and took Sehun with me instead.

Everything seemed to be going fine; Irene turned up with Baekhyun as I had predicted would happen. It was only as the night progressed that I started to experience a harrowing, constant feeling in my chest. It was hard to describe what it was or pinpoint why I was suddenly feeling this way, but I instantly knew something hugely terrible was going to happen. Ironically, I think I felt this way because of how untroubled everyone else was.

Alcohol was definitely, 100% flowing at this party. Every room I entered held a least one large group of drunk friends, laughing and yelling louder than I would have considered acceptable in my own apartment. I guess this Wonho guy was a lot more lenient than I was. Or he just didn’t give a shit.

Now, I’d never been much of a drinker (the agonizing hangovers then next morning were more than enough to stop me drinking too much, usually) but tonight was different. Maybe I drunk to try to sooth the pain in my chest, or to lessen the effect the howling screams of drunkards had on my newly formed headache.

“I’m just going to go…somewhere,” I slurred, hitting Sehun hard on his back.

“Make good choices!” Sehun grinned as he turned to face me.

Oh, the irony!

I gulped back another cup of alcohol (I’m not too sure what it actually was, it tasted like vodka mixed with something else but I couldn’t be too sure what. By this time I didn’t really care what was in it anyway - I was far too wasted to be wary about such a small thing) and stumbled into the closest room: a second lounge.

Music was blasting from the stereo in the corner, and there was a group of rowdy younger boys surrounding a pool table. I started heading in their direction for god knows why, but someone intercepted me first.

“Y/N, just the girl I wanted to see!” Baekhyun cheered, giving me an adorable lopsided smile.

“You wanted to see me?” I replied, giving Baekhyun a sceptical look. “Where’s Irene?”

He suddenly grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the lounge and down the hall. The unexpected skin-to-skin contact sent a rogue shiver down my spine and I tried to pull my hand away instinctively - Baekhyun’s vice-like grip prevented us from breaking contact.

“She’s passed out on a couch in some place or another. Girl cannot handle her alcohol,” Baekhyun chucked, throwing open the door of a bedroom and scowling when he found it was occupied already.

“Out,” he instructed, grip still firm on my hand, and the couple sucking each other’s faces off scurried out of the room as fast as their drunken bodies could manage. I couldn’t stop a gasp from escaping my lips when Baekhyun closed the door and slammed my body against it.

“What the hell?” I managed to puff, but my words faded into nothing when I noticed how close Baekhyun’s face was to mine. He was probably only a foot taller, but he seemed to tower over me as I shrunk back into the door. I was totally wasted, but I could still make out the different tones of brown in his irises that I’d never noticed before.

“I need you, Y/N,” Baekhyun confessed, his voice low and raspy. His breath was hot on my cheek, and I could smell the reeking stench of alcohol on it. Baekhyun was drunk too, but nowhere near as tipsy as myself.

“But you have Irene,” I mumbled, and I was sure he wouldn’t even be able to hear me. To be honest, I was surprised at how I managed to resist jumping his bones right there and then.

“I have Irene, but I want you.”

I managed to take one last peek at Baekhyun’s eyes before his lips crashed onto mine: his usually soft, warm eyes had completely darkened and he looked like a hungry predator eying up its prey.

After a minute of desperate kisses, Bakehyun suggested we go somewhere more private, so that’s what we did. He suggested that, since he wasn’t really allowed to be seen making out with a girl other than his girlfriend, I pretend I was too sick to stay at the party and he would say he suddenly remembered an assignment he had due tomorrow. And that’s how we managed our great escape.

I learned two things that night; the first was that lust is a crazy, bubbling cauldron of desire and need, and once you get a taste of it, it courses through your veins and takes control of every inch of your body - from your legs to your fingertips to your tongue and even your mind. It’s wanting what you can’t have, what you shouldn’t have, what you know is absolutely and utterly wrong to take, but being completely unable to stop yourself from taking it regardless.

The second thing I learned that night was that Irene was right: I was a real threat to her relationship.

31st July:

Okay, I lied. When I said July 26th was the worst day in my whole existence, I was lying.

Today was the day everything went downhill. I guess you could say I was standing on the top of a really tall building, creeping closer and closer to the edge: July 26th was what caused me to fall off the very tall building, the 31st is what I experienced just before I hit the ground.

July 31st started out like any other day. It was the middle of summer, and I remember thinking it would be nice if my apartment had a pool. I’d been very good at keeping Baekhyun and I’s one night stand a secret, and I’d made Bakehyun promise he would never tell a soul, especially Irene, for obvious reasons.

In fact, I’d even seen the two together in the wake of our hookup: they looked as happy as could be and as much as it pained me to see them being all cute together, it was so much better than having Irene find out what had happened.

That day I had both my courses (a photography course and an English language course) which meant I had to walk almost literally from one side of campus to the other. Usually I didn’t have a problem with this (it’s a hassle, that’s all) but today seemed different.

I noticed that whenever I glanced in boys’ directions they would stare back with a glint of hunger in their eyes, and when I made eye contact with a group of girls they all glared daggers at me. Synchronised scowling. If I hadn’t been feeling so self conscious, I probably would have laughed.

It was only when I walked past the girls that I realised why they felt so compelled to stare: “See, that’s the girl who slept with Irene’s boyfriend,” one of the girls stated, pointing straight at me. I recognised her as one of Irene’s friends but I didn’t know her name. “She’s not even that pretty,” another girl added as I rushed past them.

At first I thought I was hallucinating. There was no way anyone knew about Baekhyun and I, right?

I was wrong. I managed to make it to my English class without anymore trouble, albeit the usual stares. I was just settling into my normal seat when two boys in front of me turned around. I recognised them as Vernon and Seungkwan - I was on good terms with the both of them as I often let them copy my answers.

“So, Y/N, is it true that you had sex with Baekhyun?” Seungkwan blurted out.

“You can’t just ask that, Seungkwan!” Vernon chuckled, but still looked at me expectantly.

“Oh, I am terribly sorry. Y/N, oh kind, wise, answer-sharing Y/N, is it true that you may have had sexual relations with the handsome Byun Baekhyun?” Seungkwan said in a posh voice. By now, a lot of the class was looking at us. My heart dropped.

“It’s not true,” I uttered, just loud enough for the two boys to hear.

“It’s what?” Vernon questioned, leaning closer.

“I-I need to go.” I packed my bag quickly and left the class as fast as I possibly could - there was no way I was staying in there to play a whole hour of Twenty Questions.

As I was heading home, I felt a mix of emotions. It was hard to pinpoint just one. I felt confused because I had no idea how everyone had found out, but at the same time I felt absolutely devastated because I knew exactly who had told them (it certainly wasn’t me, I hadn’t even told Sehun), and then I felt a wave of sadness that Baekhyun, someone who up until recently I considered a good friend, could share something so intimate.

When I got home, all I wanted to do was crawl up into my bed and sleep the remainder of the day away, but that’s not what happened. The door to our apartment was wide open and boxes sat outside it innocently - I could instantly tell that something was wrong.

“Y/N, I have absolutely no idea what’s going on,” Sehun stated when I walked into the living room. “I had literally just got home when all this started. She screamed at me for conspiring with and defending you?” He gestured to Irene’s room where the loud clatter of miscellaneous items landing on each other were coming from.

I stood near the doorway, the threat of having something thrown at me stopped me venturing further. Irene was angrily grabbing items off her desk, wall, and from her wardrobe, shoving them into cardboard boxes.

As if sensing my presence, Irene stopped her movements and snapped her head up, glaring right into my soul. She stood up and headed towards me with fire in her eyes, and I genuinely feared for my life. Stopping close to me, Irene stated, “You’re a bitch,” before slamming the door in my face.

“Y/N, what the hell was that about?” Sehun questioned when I remerged from the hallway. “ Are you okay?” The worried expression on Sehun’s features told me that he really did care about whether I was okay or not, but shame stopped me from confessing the sin I had committed. I really wanted to, but I just couldn’t.

“Yeah, Se. Nothing’s wrong.”

2nd August:

Remember when I said this past week was like I’d been pushed off a really tall building? Well, I finally hit the ground.

I spent most of the day at this cute little reserve near my apartment where I knew it was unlikely I would run into anyone I recognised. It seems that all I do now: run. Run away from my responsibilities. Run from my problems.

I was supposed to be meeting Suho and Chanyeol right now for lunch, but I couldn’t bear to face them. No doubt they would be bombarding my phone, which I’d left at home, but I was certain their texts would get lost among the numerous other notifications I had.

You see, a few days ago, people would tell me face to face what they thought about Baekhyun and I - which wasn’t the nicest feeling but I could handle it - but now they’d turned to social media to humiliate me, to call me degrading names where all my friends and family could see. So that’s why I was skipping lunch with Chanyeol and Suho, and ditching my classes for the day - I needed time away from it all, to think about how everything had gone oh so terribly wrong. I had no doubt my phone was buzzing away with hate - I seemed to be more popular now than I was before all this happened.

It was late afternoon when I finally decided to head back home. I was feeling just slightly more positive now that I’d thought about my situation and managed to come up with a mental game plan for my next moves.

That was, until I spotted a small van driving way from our apartment. Painted on the side in bright red letters were the words ‘Seoul Movers’. I bounded to the apartment, taking the stairs two at a time, and found a sombre looking Sehun starting at the blank television screen.

“Sehun?” I asked quietly, sliding up to the couch and staring at my friend.

“Irene’s gone. She moved out,” he monotonely replied. I knew this was going to happen; Irene packing boxes a few days ago and the moving truck were a dead give away, but I’d held on with false hope that Irene and I would be able to talk this situation out. Instead, Irene wouldn’t even make eye contact with me, let alone talk to me.

The last of the peaceful feeling I’d managed to hold onto from earlier today drained from my body completely and the reality of my situation fully hit me. Because of my stupid, stupid mistake, I’d managed to ruin a good relationship, my reputation, and I’d lost my best friend.

And as for Baekhyun, I didn’t even know where to start. I was so incredibly mad at him but it was still nowhere near as close to matching the anger I felt towards myself.

“Hey hey hey,” Sehun cooed, noticing the silent tears that were creeping down my cheeks. He stood up and wrapped me in his warm embrace. “It’s okay, silly.”

“No, it’s not. I’ve fucked everything up. I’m such a failure,” I wailed, burying my face into Sehun’s fluffy sweater. He didn’t say anything else, instead he hugged me tighter which I believe reassured me more than anything that he could have said would have.

We stood there for what felt like an eternity, and in that moment I realised I’d never felt more thankful for a single person that I did just then.

Hate it or Love it: 50 quotes from MLK that white people can use besides ‘hate cannot drive out hate’

Every year around Martin Luther King Jr. Day everyone likes to drop an inspirational quote from Dr. King. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a multifaceted philosopher and an amazing orator with a plethora of accessible speeches, sermons and books; yet, somewhere along the way it seems as if a rule was created, restricting white people to one quote in particular:

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

I don’t know the reason behind the restriction; perhaps because this is one of the better quotes to try to push the “I don’t see color; we’re one race – the human race” agenda. Or perhaps the darkness and the light can be used to represent black and white and thus play into the white savior movement. Whatever the reason may be! BlackHistoryDay.tumblr.com is here today to give you 50 quotes from Dr. King that I encourage you to keep in mind for your future references:

1. “No movement of essentially revolutionary quality can be neat and tidy.”

2. “The only answer that one can give to those who would question the readiness of the Negro for integration is that the standards of the Negro lag behind at times not because of an inherent inferiority, but because of the fact that segregation and discrimination do exist.”

3. “There is no more torturous logic than to use the tragic effects of segregation as an argument for its continuation.”

4. “It is one of the ironies of history that in a nation founded on the principle that all men are created equal, we’re still arguing over whether the color of a man’s skin determines the content of his character.”

5. “There comes a time, my friends, when people get tired of being plunged across the abyss of humiliation, where they experience the bleakness of nagging despair. There comes a time when people get tired of being pushed out of the glittering sunlight of life’s July and left standing amid the piercing chill of an alpine November.”

6. “There are some things that we’ve got to learn to sacrifice for. And we’ve got to come to the point that we are determined not to accept a lot of things that we have been accepting in the past.”

7. “We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality…”

8. “We must see now that the evils of racism, economic exploitation and militarism are all tied together… you can’t really get rid of one without getting rid of the others… the whole structure of American life must be changed. America is a hypocritical nation and [we] must put [our] own house in order.”

9. “What good is having the right to sit at a lunch counter if you can’t afford to buy a hamburger?”

10. “Increasingly, by choice or by accident, this is the role our nation has taken, the role of those who make peaceful revolution impossible by refusing to give up the privileges and the pleasures that come from the immense profits of overseas investments.”

11. “If we will but make the right choice, we will be able to speed up the day, all over America and all over the world, when justice will roll down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream.”

12. “That the poor white has been put into this position, where through blindness and prejudice, he is forced to support his oppressors. And the only thing he has going for him is the false feeling that he’s superior because his skin is white—and can’t hardly eat and make his ends meet week in and week out.”

13. “Through our scientific and technological developments we have lifted our heads to the skies, and yet our feet are still firmly planted in the muck of barbarism and racial hatred. Indeed this is America’s chief moral dilemma.”

14. “To keep a group of people confined to nasty slums and dirty hovels is not a State Right, but a State Wrong.”

15. “It may be true that morals cannot be legislated, but behavior can be regulated.”

16. “It may be true that laws and federal action cannot change bad internal attitudes, but they can control the external effects of those internal attitudes.”

17. “The law may not be able to make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me.”

18. “Even this nation came into being with a massive act of law breaking; for what implied more civil disobedience than the Boston tea party…there’s nothing new about law breaking.”

19. “God has brought us here for this hour to tell us to save America because our white brothers is carrying it more and more to destruction and damnation.”

20. “We’re called to do it so that means we can’t stop. This should make us more determined than ever before.”

21. “Now they always tell us to cool off and I know that when you get people cooling off too much they will end up in a deep freeze. They tell us to slow up and some of them even say that the Negros in Albany out to go home and be quiet because there’s a political campaign going on and you may help elect some particular candidate that shouldn’t be in office. Well I don’t know if you have an answer for them and I don‘t know if I have an absolute answer but I want to say to those who are telling us to stop merely because a political campaign is going on that this is a moral issue for us. We’re moving on towards freedom’s land. We cannot stop our legitimate aspirations for freedom merely because some immoral person will use this for his own political aggrandizements…”

22. “We worked in this very nation 2 centuries without wages. We made cotton king; we built our homes and the homes of our masters in the midst of injustice and exploitation. Yet out of a bottomless vitality we continue to grow and to live and if the inexpressible cruelties of slavery didn’t stop us, the opposition that we now face cannot stop us.”

23. “The absence of brutality and unregenerate evil is not the presence of justice.”

24. “As the nation passes from opposing extremist behavior to the deeper and more pervasive elements of equality, white america reaffirms its bonds to the status quo.”

25. “Whites, it must frankly be said, are not putting in a similar mass effort to reeducate themselves out of their racial ignorance.”

26. “It is an aspect of their sense of superiority that the white people of America believe they have so little to learn.”

27. “To find the origins of the Negro problem we must turn to the white man’s problem.”

28. “It seems to be a fact of life that human beings cannot continue to do wrong without eventually reaching out for some rationalization to clothe their acts in the garments of righteousness.”

29. “The greatest blasphemy of the whole ugly process was that the white man ended up making God his partner in the exploitation of the Negro.”

30. “Just as the ambivalence of white Americans grows out of their oppressor status, the predicament of Negro Americans grows out of their oppressed status.”

31. “Negroes have grown accustomed now to hearing unfeeling and insensitive whites say: ‘other immigrant groups such as the Irish, the Jews and the Italians started out with similar handicaps, and yet they made it. Why haven’t the Negroes done the same?’ These questioners refuse to see that the situation of other immigrant groups a hundred years ago and the situation of the Negro today cannot be usefully compared.”

32. “The Negro was crushed, battered and brutalized, but he never gave up. He proves again that life is stronger than death.”

33. “A riot is at bottom the language of the unheard. It is the desperate, suicidal cry of one who is so fed up with the powerlessness of his cave existence that he asserts that he would rather be dead than ignored.”

34. “What is needed today on the part of white America is a committed altruism which recognizes this truth.”

35. “True altruism is more than the capacity to pity; it is the capacity to empathize. Pity is feeling sorry for someone; empathy is feeling sorry with someone. Empathy is fellow feeling for the person in need— his pain, agony and burdens.”

36. “I can never be who I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the way our world is made.”

37. “True education helps us on the one hand to know truth, but more than that it helps us to love truth and sacrifice for it. It gives us not only knowledge, which is power, but wisdom, which is control.”

38. “If you can’t fly, run; if you can’t run, walk; if you can’t walk, crawl; but by all means keep moving.”

39. “We will move out of these mountains that have so often impeded our progress, the mountain of moral and ethical relativism, the mountain of practical materialism, the mountain of corroding hatred, bitterness and violence, and the mountain of racial segregation.”

40. “…Always have faith in the possibility of getting over to the Promised Land. Don’t become a pessimist and feel that we cannot get there; it is difficult sometimes, it is hard sometimes, but always have faith that the Promised Land can be achieved and that we can possess this land of brotherhood and peace and understanding.”

41. “An individual who is not concerned about his selfhood and his freedom is at that moment committing moral and spiritual suicide…”

42. “But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough can you see the stars.”

43. “There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right.”

44. “Many people fear nothing more terribly than to take a position which stands out sharply and clearly from the prevailing opinion.”

45. “Many sincere white people in the south privately oppose segregation and discrimination, but they are apprehensive lest they be publicly condemned.”

46. “’Do not conform’ is difficult advice in a generation when crowd pressures have unconsciously conditioned our minds and feet to move to the rhythmic drum beat of the status quo.”

47. “This tragic attempt to give moral sanction to an economically profitable system gave birth to the doctrine of white supremacy.”

48. “Unlike physical blindness that is usually inflicted upon individuals as a result of natural forces beyond their control, intellectual and moral blindness is a dilemma which man inflicts upon himself by his tragic misuse of freedom and his failure to use his mind to its fullest capacity.”

49. “Only through the bringing together of head and heart-intelligence and goodness shall man rise to a fulfillment of his true nature.”

50. “Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”

Enjoy.

Title: The Taste of Envy

Summary: Bianca is a call girl and her favourite client, a possessive man named Negan requests her services for the night.

Pairing: Bianca x Negan

Warnings: Smut, possessiveness, spanking, fluff

Sitting at the bar with one leg crossed over the other, Bianca reapplied a layer of red lipstick and waited for Negan who had requested her services. Becoming a call girl was never her intention, she had plans to go to college and study law, make her parents proud and be the success story of her family. But somewhere between nineteen and twenty-one she had fallen off the tracks, got involved with women who worked through a call girl agency and realised she could make big money using her body.

Now twenty-three, the pretty redhead was just starting off in the adult business. The men she serviced were rich businessmen who had more millions than sense, some of them had crumbling marriages to wives they hated and some of them were lonely and needed someone to talk to, but this particular man who wanted to see her tonight was possessive. Negan. He wasn’t like the others. Yes, he was older and he was rich, but he was gorgeous. He was a man who could get any girl he wanted, whenever he walked into a room, heads turned and women damn near threw themselves at him like he was a pussy magnet. But he still paid to see her. It was flattering to say the least, and there was part of her that got butterflies whenever he texted her. But to work this job, the number one rule was to never get attached, and she was already failing.

There was something to be said for reunion sex. Explosive tangles of lips and teeth and limbs. Aggressive clawing and slapping flesh, just all consuming need, I miss you, I love you, I’m so happy you’re back. Saying with her body what she couldn’t put into words, I’m sorry spoken in the rough tug of his hair, forgive me painted in teeth along his neck, I’m with you in the rough slide and rasp of skin on skin.

Afterwards was harder. Sweat drying and breath calming and the words wouldn’t come. Goodnight whispered into her hair, slow measured breaths as he gave into exhaustion. Her ring winking mockingly in the light of the moon through the window.

“I love you.”

“they’re all liars here”

I know this is old, OLD news, but it turns out I’m actually never going to get over The Show giving Sandor Clegane’s backstory explanation & “they’re all liars here” line to Littlefinger. I mean … bad enough that you deprive a character of a scene so staggeringly significant to his characterization that you literally auditioned the actor by that scene … but of ALL the characters to then transfer those lines to … Why. WHY.

Because, okay. This is just a rough and unedited spilling of thoughts, so forgive me for not being terribly academic and thorough here, but look: the themes of truth and lies are central to Sansa’s character arc in the books. (Unless otherwise specified, everything I discuss here is from book-canon, btw.) Sandor and LF likewise both play significant roles in her storyline and are both involved in the truth/lies theme, but in rather different ways. When the Hound says that line about liars, it’s coming from the established context that he’s a guy who supposedly abhors lies and liars; a guy who — when alone with her, at least — often tries to break through Sansa’s armor of courtesy and elicit truthful reactions, even if they’re unpleasant ones. And yet, despite the famous “a hound will die for you but never lie to you” line … Sandor actually lies a lot. Especially in public. Regardless of whether he completely buys his own cynicism when he says shit like “killing is the sweetest thing there is,” he definitely lies more than once in service of protecting Sansa. And so here, as he calls Sansa out on being a bad liar, it’s hypocritical but also extremely reflective of the fact that Sandor is a deeply broken former romantic: he disdains lying because he was made to feel that the honest, honorable world he once believed in was itself a lie, but he feels that lying is necessary because the world’s terrible, so you have to be terrible to survive in it, so better get good at being terrible. It’s a worldview directly opposed to Sansa’s own idealism / romanticism and her tendency to show humanity even to those who frighten her or have harmed her … And ultimately, I think Sansa — and the narrative — pretty definitively prove Sandor’s cynicism wrong.

Whatever The Show may be, I think that ASoIaF is not a grimdark, cynical work on the whole. There’s a lot of awful, terrible things in it, yes, but I think we’ll see a triumph of kinder values in the end. After all, “The North Remembers” is not a statement just about revenge, but about honor and loyalty. Ned was merciful and honorable and he died an unjust death for it, and in the short term, that seems to make a good case for being cynical and ruthless … but in the long term, we see that House Stark and its silly honor have inspired a loyalty that unites and motivates and endures. Likewise, the promise of healing/renewal trumps cynicism/destruction with the “death” of the Hound persona and the claim that Sandor Clegane has found peace. “The Hound,” now an identity currently being shuffled around between some pretty bad dudes, proved to be 1) a persona false enough that Sandor was able to shed it and survive without it, and 2) far worse than the actual man underneath.

The way Sandor uses falsehoods is actually not unlike Sansa’s porcelain / ivory / steel sentiment or her aloof, self-effacing “armor of courtesy.” Both are means of protecting oneself against the dangers (both physical and emotional) of a world that has proven itself to be far crueler than Sansa believed it to be before Ned’s death or that Sandor believed when he was just a kid who wanted so badly to be a knight. I do think it’s possible LF started out with something of the same mindset; there’s some indication he too might’ve been a romantic as a child, the underdog dueling for the sake of true love and all. If Sandor wields lies as a shield, however — a means of protecting Sansa from physical threats and himself from emotional ones — then to Littlefinger, lies are a dagger hidden in his sleeve. Far from viewing it as a necessary evil, he’s weaponized mendacity and made manipulation into an art. And, of course, he too has the duality of a “true face” and a persona … but which is which?

“Littlefinger was only a mask he had to wear. Only sometimes Sansa found it hard to tell where the man ended and the mask began. Littlefinger and Lord Petyr looked so very much alike. She would have fled them both, perhaps, but there was nowhere for her to go.” Sansa doesn’t know which identity is LF’s true face (if indeed either is), nor whether EITHER face can be trusted. It’s a pretty big difference compared to the way she always managed to get under the Hound’s skin and, even without seeming to know that she was doing it sometimes, connect with his true self (see: “he was no true knight,” the Mother’s Hymn, etc.). And it’s under LF’s tutelage, of course, that she (necessarily) develops her own persona of Alayne the bastard girl — an ability which grows out of the skills she developed in King’s Landing, where she improved her armor of courtesy and her ability to remain impassive and seemingly docile for the sake of survival. LF, however, encourages her to take a more proactive role in plotting and scheming, to be on the offense rather than the defense, treating her as something of a protege — a protege he still controls for now, though of course it’s widely speculated that she may prove his undoing in the end.

Truth and lies, questions of identity, etc … It’s all very tangled. And maybe on the surface it seems like there’s not much difference in having Sandor say “they’re all liars here” versus Petyr saying “we’re all liars here.” But they’re just such different characters that I think the line carries a very different weight depending on who the speaker is, what his attitude about lying is, and why (or whether) he wants Sansa to improve at it. It’s just kind of wild to me that The Show gave that line to a character who plays such an opposite role in that thematic aspect of Sansa’s arc. Not to mention that it’s one of those lines that, even fairly early on, hints at the fact that Sandor is much smarter than most other characters give him credit for. Pity the show stripped him of moments that show his insight and complexity like that.

And, I mean, goes without saying that giving Sandor’s backstory monologue to LF 1) made no sense, how does LF even know any of that, has he been gossiping with Gregor, god knows Sandor wouldn’t tell, and 2) erased the foundation of Sandor having any particular bond with Sansa, making their season 2 scenes kind of baffling, but whatever, the show didn’t adapt half their ACoK scenes anyway and also seems to have forgotten that they ever knew one another, so I guess it doesn’t matter in the end.

Toon Henry 'Bad Ending' AU

phantoms-lair submitted:

“I think he’s in there,” Boris whispered to Alice. It had been several days at least (time was hard to tell here) since they had seen Bendy. Not since Henry-

They hadn’t exactly liked what Bendy and Joey were doing. Both thought it a bit mean to put the former cartoonist through a series of scares as payback without even letting him explain himself, but ultimately harmless.

Until it wasn’t.

Bendy had been mad at Sammy when he had arrived on the scene of the ‘sacrifice’. The ink-covered man had fled at his ‘Master’s’ rage, so Bendy had turned his attention to Henry. He’d wanted to play with the guy first, get a bit of payback before he was was willing to let bygones be.

But Sammy had knocked the guy for a loop pretty badly. He wouldn’t get up. Not when Bendy threatened, cajoled, or begged. He couldn’t be dead, after all. His eyes didn’t turn to Xs and his tongue wasn’t stuck out. He didn’t float above his body with a halo and a harp. None of the things that signified dead to toons. That way it was funny. There was nothing funny about just laying there in a puddle of reddish ink (it had to be ink) and getting colder and colder. Toons were animated, that’s what made them toons. It wasn’t natural for them to be still. So he had to get up eventually.

It was sitting there waiting toes tapping, fingers drumming, that Bendy realized there wasn’t anything funny about any of this.

The final blow, though, was the things that had fallen out of Henry’s pocket. A wallet filled with little money, but mostly pictures. Some he recognized as others from the studio. But most were a woman and several children that he could see bits of Henry in. The other object was the note in Joey’s handwriting; the one that had called Henry here.

“Your best pal, Joey Drew.” Boris had read, frowning.  “Gosh, that’s not a nice trick to pull on your best pal. You’d never do that to me, would you Bendy?”

And that had been what had broken Bendy. Because all it would have taken to get Henry back had been a nicely worded letter. Why hadn’t they just done that ages ago? Henry had come to see an old friend with no more prompting that a brief message, and now he was dead.

Boris and Alice didn’t know what had happened next. Bendy had run off and soon after they had heard him screaming in rage. Then nothing, not a trace. The two toons had kept out of sight of Joey and Sammy, thankfully neither of them had fixed on them like they had on Bendy. But with no sign of the Dancing Devil, they had begun to fear the worst. Then Boris had noticed some drag marks with Bendy’s footprints leading into one of the many unused rooms in the studio.

Sure enough, upon opening the door, they found Bendy surrounded by balls of wadded up paper, scribbling frantically at something on Henry’s old desk. “Hey Guys,” He greeted cheerfully. “I’ve almost got this done!”

“What is this?’ Alice asked, carefully unfolding one of the pages on the ground. It was filled with scribbles of Henry as he had looked as a toon. The lines were rough and the proportions wrong, but it was recognizable.

“It’s Henry, or at least it will be. If he’s a toon from the start, then he can’t die, right?” Bendy grinned. “That’ll fix everything!”

“Fix?” Boris stepped back as Alice audibly growled. “You think this will fix-” She stomped up to him and slapped the pen out of his hands. “Of all the self centered, self serving- Do you think Henry can be replaced with a copy?! That the fact that you helped kill him will just be undone?!”

“That’s not fair, Alice.” Boris tried to interject. “Joey told us he wouldn’t die.”

“Joey also told us Sammy would be fine. Whatever he is isn’t fine and Joey’s a liar.” Alice snarled. “And what would you be bring him back for? If he’s pure toon, he’s trapped here like we are. He’ll never see his wife, kids, grandkids again. Just the people who killed him, the people who helped, and the people who did nothing. Punish him for leaving by making him stay forever? You’re not doing this for Henry, Bendy. You’re doing this for yourself. Trying to bring him back to suffer, just like Joey.”

Don’t you ever compare me to him!” Bendy’s eyes shrunk and the ink around his horns seemed to melt a bit.

“Like Father like son,” Alice said bitterly, turning around and leaving the room.

“She didn’t mean that,” Boris assured Bendy. “She’s blaming herself for what happened and it’s really getting to her. We know you didn’t really mean any harm. I’ll get her calmed down.” He hugged his best friend and went after the angel.

“I didn’t mean it, but it happened anyway.” Bendy whispered to himself. “And it’s going to happen again and again till everyone from Sillyvision is like Sammy-or you.” He turned back to his drawing. Unlike the early attempts, this looked almost identical to how Henry had looked towards the end. “I can’t do anything to stop Joey. He made us, he can counter anything the three of us do. But you already proved he can’t control you.”

He picked up the page, the creases on it the only sign off how hard he was gripping it. Bendy has considered drawing Henry younger, in his prime, but dismissed it. That was the Henry who thought Joey was his friend. He’d need the older, cagier Henry. The drawing was even wielding an axe, just to be sure. He retrieved the pen from where Alice had knocked it away. The Ink Machine needed a sacrifice from the artist’s workspace, after all. The pen was the only one Bendy had ever used, and a reminder of when Henry was happily a member of the studio. It had to do.

“Come on, Old Man. Let’s get you back.“

YOU WROTE A THING.  FOR THE BAD ENDING.

I’M DYING.  I’M DYING, AND I MIGHT HAVE TO DRAW SOMETHING FOR THIS.  I LOVE THIS SO MUCH.

A Study in Pink

The other night my entire life changed, I think for the better, and I want to tell you about it. So this is what happened on the night I moved in with Sherlock Holmes.

When I first met Sherlock, he told me my life story. He could tell so much about me from my limp, my tan and my mobile phone. And that’s the thing with him. It’s no use trying to hide who you are (or what you are, which scares me more) because Sherlock sees right through everyone and everything in seconds. It’s remarkable but terrifying. What’s incredible, though, is how spectacularly ignorant he is about some things.

This morning, for example, he asked me who the Prime Minister was. Last week he seemed to genuinely not know the Earth goes round the Sun. Seriously. He didn’t know. He didn’t think the Sun went round the Earth or anything. He just didn’t care. I still can’t quite believe it, and he’s not taken kindly to me spontaneously laughing about it. In so many ways, he’s the cleverest, most incredible person I’ve ever met but there are these blank spots that partly worry me and partly brighten my day (knowing something that Sherlock doesn’t brings a sort of thrill). At least I’ve got used to him now. Well, I say that, I suspect I’ll never really get used to him. He is like no one else I’ve ever met. It’s just, on that first night, I literally had no idea of what was to come. I mean, how could I? I’ve come to learn that when you’re with Sherlock Holmes, everything is an adventure.

“Wipe that fucking expression off your face before I slap it off!” His father screamed, his fist still on the table after pounding into the wooden surface. “Do you hear me, Daniel James?”

Dan tried his hardest to keep his expression neutral, erasing the fear from his eyes as best he could. About an hour before, he had begun explaining his equal attraction to men and women to his mother. She had listened, taking in every bit of information he tried telling her. Things were going well until his father came home. Now that his mother had relayed the information to him, things were about to take a drastic turn for the worse.

His father turned and walked slowly towards the dining chair Dan was sitting on. He leaned in close, speaking lowly. Dan could smell the alcohol on his breath. “Listen to me. Let me make myself perfectly clear. No son of mine will ever be seen holding hands with a man.” He pointed a finger right underneath Dan’s chin. “Is that understood?” His son nodded slowly. “Good. I’m going out again, Karen.”

His heavy footsteps shook the whole house as he walked out the back door. Dan fought back tears as he heard the door slam shut.

The train shook violently from side to side, jolting him awake. “You okay, bear?” A voice questioned. He turned to his left to see his boyfriend Phil sitting beside him, his phone in his hand. Dan was frozen, taking in his new surroundings before replying. “Yeah. Strange dream.” Phil smiled softly, giving the former a quick kiss to the temple before resting his head on the former’s shoulder.

You sat in the car, wedged between Chanyeol and Jongdae, you didn’t know where you were going and you didn’t even have the guts to ask. You were sobbing uncontrollably and just praying that the man you thought was your really close friend didn’t pull his trigger on you. Kyungsoo sighed, looking at you through his rear view mirror and rolling his eyes.

“For goodness sakes, be quiet. I’m trying to concentrate on my driving.” You tried stifling your sobs as hard as you could as you were really trying to not piss off the men anymore then you already had, but it was proving to be really difficult.
Finally Chanyeol had had enough. “For fucks sake Y/N” Chanyeol grumbled, unbuckling his seatbelt. He reached forward into the glove compartment pulling out a piece of white material and a brown bottle. Unscrewing the lid he emptied some of its contents onto the cloth and held it up to your nose and mouth. Your eyes widened when you realised that he was trying to sedate you with chloroform and you struggled against his grip, but he had the upper hand and before you knew it you had lost consciousness.

                                                          ***
You woke up feeling drowsy and your vision was blurry, you continued to fall in and out of consciousness for a good 30 minutes, until the voices around you started to become clearer. You held your breath when you remembered the last thing that had happened to you. Lifting your head from the table that you were laying on you scanned your surroundings. The room was fairly dark, with just a couple of dim lights to help show you where you were. You couldn’t recognise where you were. They didn’t take you back home, but they hadn’t killed you either. You didn’t know whether or not this was a good or bad thing. You tried lifting yourself off of the table, but your limbs were still heavy and so you were unsuccessful in your attempt.
“She’s awake.” You heard an unfamiliar voice say, they stood above you, so you were staring up into their face. You didn’t recognise this person he wasn’t any of the other two from the club and certainly wasn’t Chanyeol. He had thin sharp eyes, and a set jaw. From where you were laying he looked as though he might be really tall, but you weren’t one hundred percent sure. You still didn’t know where you were and you just wanted to get out. You attempted to roll off the table, but the tall man laughed pulling you back into place.
“I really don’t know where you think you’re going.” You slumped back on the table and tried looking around for anything that could help.
“Stop looking, you’re not getting out unless we want you to”
You closed your eyes, trying to regulate your breathing and block out all of the chatter that you could hear on the left side of the room.
“What do we do with her?” The guy above you said, turning away from you and facing the others in the group.

“We wait until Suho gets here.” You heard a voice say, sounding as though it belonged to Kyungsoo.
“Ahh, no fun! No fun at all.” The tall man pouted, looking back over his shoulder at you. “I could think of a lot of fun things we could do right now” he winked at you.
“Shut up Sehun” You heard Chanyeol say from somewhere in the room.

Sehun.

You heard footsteps approaching you and stop beside you right next to Sehun; looking to your left you saw that it was Chanyeol. This time you darted off the table and half ran to the far right side of the room, but in two strides Sehun caught up with, turning you around to face him and slamming your back into the wall. You cried out in pain and dropped down to the floor.

“Oi!” you heard Chanyeol call “Careful”
“This coming from the man that just sedated her?” Another voice scoffed making the rest of the men laugh in unison.
“Listen, that was pain free” he replied, walking closer towards where you were on the ground. “Get up” he said offering his hand to you. But you refused it, wrapping your hands around your legs and hugging them against your chest instead. “Y/N, get up” he huffed, pushing his hand closer to your face. You responded by spitting into his palm and shuffling back against the wall.
The whole room of boys broke out into fits of laughter, whilst Chanyeol frowned at you and wiped his hand on your hair.

“What’s going on in here!?” A new voice shouted, entering the room making everyone else quiet and step aside. The man walked up next to Chanyeol and stared at you through angry eyes. He was short compared to Chanyeol and dangerously handsome, his face didn’t match the hostility in his voice you began to feel intimidated.
“What is this Chanyeol?” He muttered in the most unsettling tone, which made him sound scarier then when he was shouting. “You nearly fucked up over a whore?”

“She’s not a whore.” Chanyeol rolled his eyes, staring down at you with a blank expression. It was at this point you realised you didn’t know who this person was anymore. Everything you thought you knew about your closest friend was incorrect. You’d just witnessed him kill a man, he held a gun up to the temple of your head and he knocked you out with chloroform, not to mention his growing hostility towards you. It was as though he had been replaced with another being. For the first time in your life you were completely scared of Chanyeol. You quickly skimmed the room with your eyes from your new position on the floor, analysing your situation. You were sat in a room with six men who were all wearing black one of which you still didn’t know. But it was fair to say you didn’t know any of them since you couldn’t say you knew Chanyeol anymore.

“Why didn’t you bring any arms with you?” The man next to Chanyeol hissed at him.
Chanyeol groaned, tearing his gaze away from you. “Look we weren’t supposed to be under alert tonight. Nothing was supposed to happen. I didn’t bring anything because I wasn’t expecting to use anything. This isn’t my fault.”

“Haven’t you ever heard of an ambush Chanyeol, for fucks sake!” The man growled into his face.

“That’s exactly what I said” Jongdae laughed from the opposite side of the room

“Shut up Jongdae.” The man standing next to Chanyeol shot him and unimpressed look momentarily and then focused back onto Chanyeol
“And who is this?” He pointed straight at you his gaze burning into the back of your head. “Why did you bring her with you?” There was a silence. “I’m speaking to you Chanyeol, answer me!” the man shouted banging his fist on the metal table that you were laying on previously making you jump and cower in your spot.

“Suho you’re scaring her, calm down.” Chanyeol said frowning at the position you were sitting in and running a hand angrily through his hair.

So this was ‘the’ Suho. You didn’t expect him to look so neat and presentable. You weren’t expecting him to look so handsome either. You were expecting a tall bulky man, but this was the exact opposite, nevertheless he was very scary.
Kyungsoo scoffed shaking his head at Chanyeol.

He’s scaring her? Says the one who held a gun against her head and brought her into this situation in the first place.”
Suho put his hand up into the air as if to silence Kyungsoo and bent down so he was levelled with you.

“She should be scared Chanyeol. Very scared.” He smiled at you disturbingly, sending chills down the length of your back. “What’s your name sweetie” he asked in a patronising tone, making you feel somewhat sick. You didn’t answer him and looked down at your shoes. You had realised you were still in your work clothes and wondered whether or not you were actually going to make it to work tomorrow. You should’ve left when Chanyeol told you to, why did you have to prove yourself to Kyungsoo, look where that got you. He pinched your chin between his thumb and index finger and pulled your head up roughly towards his face. “I asked you a question bitch, answer it. What is your name?”

You swallowed hard and told him your name.

“So what do we do with her then?” Sehun asked walking closer in your direction and crouching down beside you next to Suho. You tried to shuffle back further but you realised that your back was already pressed against the wall. “Aww” Sehun cooed scornfully, “Are you scared Y/N” You flinched at the sound of your name rolling off of his tongue. It didn’t belong in his mouth. You didn’t belong in this room. You’d do anything right now to be cuddled up in your bed.

“Depends on how much she knows” Suho continued, answering Sehun’s previous question. He smiled at you vindictively and looked up at Chanyeol. “How much does she know?”

“Nothing.” Chanyeol shook his head looking at you with the blank expression he’d been wearing since you got into the car.
“That’s a lie” you heard Jongdae call from the far end of the room “She saw everything that happened tonight.”

Chanyeol rolled his eyes changing his focus from you to Suho “That’s all, she knows nothing otherwise. I promise.”

“I don’t know Chan, it’s getting kind of hard to trust anything you say lately.” He stroked the side of your face in a less than comforting way and look at your eyes, squinting slightly. “How much do you know sweetie?” He asked. You answered straight back this time, not making the same mistake again.
“I know nothing” you whispered. He smiled disbelievingly at you.
“Did your boyfriend teach you to lie so well?” he asked, edging his face closer to yours in attempt to intimidate you, and it was working.

“He’s not my boyfriend and I’m not lying. He just took me to the club to have a few drinks. That’s all I know. I just want to go home, please.” You wanted to sound brave but your voice came out little more than a squeak making you look more pathetic than when you were just sitting there silently.

“Sorry Sweetie, that can’t happen.” He shook his head standing up and taking a few steps back.

Suddenly you felt a wave of rage consume you whole. “Chanyeol, I want to go home now, what the fuck! Take me home you bastard!” There was a pause. Then roars of laughter from around the room.

“Wow, she’s a feisty one” The unidentified short man from across the room with the most precisely carved eyes smiled. Then in less than a second his face fell flat and dark. “I hate feisty girls.”

You heart was racing out of fear at the realisation that every single man in the room was staring at you. You’d never felt so exposed in your life. You looked up at Chanyeol, who was still looking at you blankly. Who was this man and what did he do with your Chanyeol?

“So can we kill her?” Sehun asked excitedly, clasping his hands together.
“No.” Chanyeol mumbled.
“Okay torture her then kill her?”
“No!”

Suho started to walk towards the door of the room. “This is your fucking mess Chanyeol you sort it out. You’ve been fucking up a lot lately Chan. It’s crossed my mind to get rid of you once or twice now, but you’re a valuable asset to the team so I can’t. Besides. Family loyalty, am I right? If I’m not satisfied with your attempt to clean this shit up in two days I’m killing her myself. Do you understand?” with that he walked out of the room slamming the door behind him.

soulmates au

For as long as he can remember, Marvin’s had a name scrawled out along the nape of his neck. It’s almost illegible, more chicken scratch than handwriting, and for the longest time he had been absolutely puzzled by it. Granted, he’d heard coworkers chatting around the water cooler mention that it’d taken them a bit to decipher the name on their skin ( not always because their soulmate was destined to have horrific handwriting, but because their soulmate had a painfully common name; he knew a man once who had already dated a plethora of Jessicas ), but most had figured it out by their teenage years.

But regardless of any difficulties he had in figuring out what his soulmate’s name was, Marvin knew it wasn’t Trina.

I’m Not Him

“No, your an ass-hole!” You shout, pushing his chest away from yours. You look up to meet his cold eyes, like he was feeling nothing about this whole situation. How he didn’t even care about how he had hurt your feelings. The countless times he had made you feel “unworthy”. The dates he stood you up on. The time you thought were romantic, personal moments between the two of you, but he left you the minute you looked away. Always finding something better.

“Don’t over-react Y/N. Not again” he sighs, rolling his eyes yet again.
“Over react?! It’s our 5 month anniversary and you don’t even care! You’d rather spend it one some stupid guys night out?”
“Hey! I am always letting you go off to spend nights with Veronica and Betty, I never complain then!”
“Okay, one, when I spend those nights with my friends, it’s not on our anniversary or when we’ve made plans. And excuse me? You “let me” spend time with my friends?“
"You know I didn’t mean it like that” he rolls his eyes again. Is he serious right now? You feel your blood start to boil in your veins as your anger rises. You press your hand into a fist behind your back, your nails digging into the palms hard.

“I don’t care what you meant. I’m leaving” you sigh, biting your lip to stop it from quivering. You grab your jacket and bag from the floor next to the couch you were both sitting on and rush over to the door.

“Come on Y/N. Chill the fuck out. It’s not like we were going to do anything special” he scoffs. Clearly not remembering how you’d confided in him. How a few weeks ago in a heated moment where he had tried to take off your clothes you promised him that you would make your anniversary special. Giving him your virginity was something so special to you, it showed how much you trusted him, how much you cared, how much you loved him.
Clearly it meant nothing to him.

“Fuck you” you whisper, hoping he heard you as you walk out the door, slamming it behind you.

The cold hit you as you walked the empty, dark streets. The thin jumper you picked up this morning was perfect for the cool breeze of morning but when it became night, the thin layer was not enough to save your skin from the air. You shivered, hugging your arms as you walked. Where to go? Not home, he would think of that, be there waiting for you, waiting to make up. With blood still boiling you decide to walk far and fast. No particular direction, just any way to distract yourself.

“Y/N?” asks a voice in the darkness, making you jump. With worried eyes you look around, suddenly realising where you had walked to. A movie plays in the background to an almost empty drive in. The voice coming from your best friend who was leaning against the door to the projection room. His crown perfectly settled on his head as usual, proving to the world how much of a prince he really was, despite so many people being unable to realise it.

“What are you doing here?” Jughead asks, talking over the movie which you realise is Pretty In Pink, a classic, and one of your favourites. It was the scene where Andie confronts Blane about their prom, shouting at him to admit he is ashamed of her. How ironic.

“I just needed to breathe” you sigh, your breath appearing like a cloud of smoke in front of your face.
“You look freezing” he rushes over to you, pulling off his jacket and draping it around your shoulders. When he gets up close he looks at you properly. His intense stare looking at every detail on your face.
“Thanks Juggie” you force a smile on your lips.
“Y/N? What’s going on?” he asks, looking down at you, never breaking his gaze, clearly concerned. Why did he have to be so perfect. He cared so much that it felt inhuman sometimes. He cared for everyone, was always there for Archie in times of need, when Betty needed calming down or cheering up, he was always there. But sometimes that looked like nothing compared to how he looked out for you. Whenever there was the slightest glint of sadness or anger on your face he was there, within seconds he would be making you smile, cuddling you when you felt lonely, bringing Pop’s take out to your house with a movie to cheer you up before you had even text him to ask if he was free. It’s like he knew you better then you knew yourself.

Bringing you inside the projection room he walks behind you, his hands rubbing up and down your arms trying to warm you up as much as possible. You both sit down on his mattress laid out on the floor in the corner. You had constantly offered Jughead a place to stay at your house, your parents loved him and would do anything for him, but Jughead knew your boyfriend. Knew how jealous he would get, and he didn’t want that drama at school. Drama was never something Jug voluntarily got into unless it was to protect someone else.
“So, are you going to tell me what brings you out here so late at night?” He asks with a sigh, lifting his arm up to lazily swing it around your shoulder, bringing you in closer so you can lean against his chest. You sigh happily in the comfort of the moment. All the anger you had early started to fade away as you melted into his arms.

“Just… It’s just him” You hear Jughead sigh. He knew exactly what he was like, his habit of lowering your confidence, making you beg for his attention as if he was a God you had to worship. From the beginning Jughead had shown his distaste for your taste in men, the amount of times he told you to leave him but you never paid attention. You thought you knew what love was, but if this was it, was it really worth it?

“What has the ass-hole done now?” he asks, squeezing your shoulder, pulling you closer into his chest, if that was even possible.
“He’s decided he wants to miss our anniversary for a guys night out”
“Y/N” he says sympathetically. “He’s a dickhead. I’m not surprised…”

Listening to Jughead rant was not what you needed right now. He lectured so many times about him but now was not the time for another lesson.
“Jughead stop. Please!” You shout, louder then you had intended too but the anger in you had started to rise again. You push yourself away from his chest, sitting up to look at him directly. He stops mid-sentence, just staring at you. “I can’t listen to this right now. I know you hate him. I know. You are my best friend, that’s what I need you to be right now! I don’t want you to tell me how he’s a dick, how he keeps doing this because I know he does! I’m the one who’s had to put up with it first hand! I don’t want it repeating for me by you, not now!” You shout, your eyes watering in the moment. It felt like everyone was against you. Like everyone wanted to treat you like shit. Like a child who couldn’t understand, or a toy for them to play with. You look away from Jug, towards the wall where he had posters hanging loosely, despite this you could still feel his eyes gazing at you.

“Fine.” Jughead says, finally breaking the silence that had fallen between you two. “Fine. I won’t say anything else about him ever again. As long as you listen to me know Y/N” He grabs your hands, pulling your attention back towards him. He softly strokes the pad of his thumb against your hand, a soothing gesture which makes you breathe deeply, calming yourself. He looks at your eyes deeply. “Y/N, you deserve so much better. I can say he’s a jerk all I want, I know that won’t change your feelings. But I just want you to know the way he treats you is bullshit. You are the most intelligent, funny, beautiful, fantastic girl I know. Any guy would be the luckiest man on Earth to even have a chance to be with you. You deserve the world. The whole galaxy even and he can’t even bring you a star.”

“Jug…” you say, speechless to his words.

“I know I’m not him but if I was then I would be fighting everyday to make you the happiest girl ever.”

You sit there for a second. Trying to find the right words to say to your best friend. The guy you had known since childhood, yet you had never seen this side to him. Never felt so special, so speechless, so loved. In a rush you lean forward, placing your lips delicately on his. It takes a second for him to respond, but soon he kisses you back. A hand cupping the back of your head, pulling you closer to him. He smiles into the kiss, pressing his lips hard on yours, rough and desperate. I move closer, placing my leg over his so I was straddling him. He bites my lower lip and sucks harshly, making me moan into the kiss. My hand lands on his chest, the other going to his hair, pulling off his beanie along the way. I gently tug his hair, making his moan as well. After a minute I break the kiss, looking down at him as he catches his breath. I look down and smile.

“Jughead. You are my world” I say honestly. A smile breaks out on his face as he raises his head, delicately pressing his lips back on mine.

I’m gonna try to keep this more brief than my analysis posts, but I wanted to talk about Danny a bit in this episode, because there were some things that I left out of my general analysis. I’d forgotten how crucial this episode was to showing just how much having ghost powers changed Danny.

Jazz, of course, mentioned that he was much more gloomy and negative after the accident, which is understandable and something I talked about. His view of himself and his powers, though, is something I feel I could’ve gone into a little more. So here we go.
