Ivory looks up to see a face she hadn’t seen in years. Ezekiel “Zeke” Houston. Zeke was Nico Holmes’ best friend. They’d been popular at Newcrest University, the two hottest guys on campus. Ivory notices that the years had been good to Zeke, he was still very handsome. But there was a sadness and glazed expression in his green eyes…
Ivory is reluctant to match Zeke’s friendly greeting. She recalled Nico telling her that Zeke was still his good friend. How much did Zeke know?
Ivory hesitant: Hello, Zeke. My goodness, it’s been years.
Zeke: It has! It has. It’s great to see you. How have you been?
Ivory wasn’t in the mood for small talk so she keeps her response short.
Ivory: I’m well. And you?
Zeke: Glad you’re well! I’m doing good. You’re Nico’s assistant now, I heard? Congrats on that! I’m in the After Sales Division here.
Ivory frowns: Oh. So are you transferring to another department or company soon?
Zeke: Um, no. I actually only joined that division a few months ago.
Ivory: Ah, okay. Because it’s my understanding that division is being dissolved entirely. Everyone in it is being reassigned or…given severance pay.
Zeke softly: Are you sure, Ivory?
Ivory quietly: Yes, Zeke. I’m certain. I saw it in the organization restructure reports. It will be made public in a few days, actually.
Ivory is alarmed when she sees Zeke’s eyes water.
Ivory: Zeke, is everything okay? I thought everyone in that division was aware of the change.
