Beauty and the Beast Post-Curse headcanons Part 2

So after posting my first installment of post-curse headcanons I realized that I forgot a few characters. Given the positive response to the first post (and a few sleepless hours last night) I have come up with more. I hope you enjoy them.

Maurice
-After the curse is broken, Chip makes a point of apologizing to Maurice for scaring him during his first visit to the castle. Maurice assures Chip that it wasn’t his fault and asks him to give him a tour of the castle. Chip happily agrees and proceeds to lead Maurice on a uniquely childlike tour. Much less (accurate) history of the castle. Way more hide and seek tips. “And what about this portrait here?” “That’s Monsieur Funny hat. I don’t know what his actual name is…but he has a really big funny hat. These curtains make a good hide and seek spot too. But make sure your feet are covered–Hey wanna see the cubboard I used to sleep in?!” Maurice called it the best tour he had ever had.
- Once Belle and Adam become engaged, Maurice offers to paint an engagement portrait of the happy couple. But dispite their best efforts, they have a very hard time working a long formal portrait sitting into their schedules. The sketches from their early attempts all felt a bit stiff. Then one evening Maurice decides to discreetly pull out his easel in the library while Belle and Adam sat curled up together reading, comfortably in their own element, aware only of their books and each other. This stealth portrait allowed Maurice to capture the tender look in Adam’s eyes when he would look over at Belle (a look he attempted to control–and usually failed–when he knew his future father-in-law was looking) and a look of bliss Belle seemed to only have in moments like this. The portrait is so successful, Maurice continues to make these candid portraits for other residents of the castle, capturing their happiest moments to last forever.

Chapeau
- Chapeau is a man of few words. He prefers to quietly observe in social situations, welcome guests with a wordless smile and nod as a greeting, and to play his violin. That said, he knows everything there is to know about the goings on of the castle. Lumière can’t think of what to get Plumette for her birthday? Ask Chapeau. Chip can’t find a toy he misplaced. Ask Chapeau. His answers are brief, but nearly always the perfect solution.

Cadenza and Garderobe
-Cadenza and Garderobe decide they want to try to teach FrouFrou to sing. This proves to be a very loud and comical task. The rest of the castle is not nearly as tickled by FrouFrou’s performance as a vocalist, but it makes Cadenza and Garderobe so happy they all play along.
-Garderobe has been known to dispense unsolicited romantic advice to Plumette and Belle, some of which makes them blush and look for the nearest exit. However, most of her advice really is helpful.
-Cadenza also offers advice, but it is usually related to writing a song in some way or other. It can be hard to tell if he means metaphorically or literally.

Cogsworth
-Cogsworth has developed the uncanny ability of knowing the exact time of day without looking at a clock. Lumière finds this hilarious and tries to prompt him to give the time without him realizing it. Dispite his accuracy as to the particular minute, Cogsworth often forgets what day it is.
-Once Cogsworth hears of the way Clothilde (Mrs. Cogsworth) treated Belle in the village during the curse, he demands she apologize, which she does (perhaps a bit too profusely.) Their reunion is the rockiest of the castle residents, having been a less than stable relationship to begin with. Somehow Lumière gets roped into acting as a sort of couples councillor for them. He isn’t quite sure how. But ultimately he is willing to do just about anything to help his friend find happiness.

LeFou
-LeFou ends up being one of Belle’s most dedicated pupils when it comes to learning how to read and write. He uses his new skills to write a note to Stanley.

Belle and Adam
- Adam likes to turn little every day moments into opportunities to dance. Belle could be doing something as simple as sorting books in the library, only to be swept up in an impromptu waltz about the room. Once they have finished Adam helps her complete whatever task she was doing so that she doesn’t find his spontaneous dances too disruptive.
-He can’t get enough of hearing Belle say “I love you.” He goes completely weak in the knees every time. Every now and then he will ask her to say it “one more time” because he didn’t get to hear the very first time she said it.
- Adam is way more into wedding planning than Belle. Belle just wants a simple wedding, which means he has to reign himself in at times. His excitement can get the better of him. She said yes and he wants to shout it from the rooftops (and has.) He has learned Belle has a certain smile that she gives him when he starts to get an idea a bit too over the top. Ultimately Belle has the final say on everything, because her happiness is all he really wants. As long as she is his and he is hers, that is all that matters.

Agathe
- As news of the engagement spreads, Agathe decides to pay a visit to the castle to congratulate the happy couple. Adam is a nervous wreck the entire time she is there (calmed only by Belle standing protectively by his side and reassuringly telling him she loves him) but is a completely gracious host all the while. Seeing the lasting trauma her curse had on the people of the castle, Agathe bestows a spell of protection over the castle and its residents as a wedding present, providing them with health and prosperity for the rest of their days. As she departs she tells them she will leave them in peace, but will return in a few years time with another gift. As Adam attempts to thank her for her generosity she cuts him off by saying “No your highness. This gift will not be for you. It’s for the baby.” With a wink she leaves Adam and Belle standing speechless, as she leaves to ponder a proper gift for her future fairy godchild.

sacchariwrites  asked:

Are you going to tell us now how you changed the story after you saw episode 10? You said you had to go back and re-outline the whole thing. I am interested in knowing how it differs.

i’m sorry if someone has already asked you this but can you share with us the original plan you had for umfb before episode 10? or can you not tell us until after the companion fic?

How Episode 10 Changed Everything (and other fun stories):

So as I’ve said a couple of times before, episode 10 was an absolute game changer for Until My Feet Bleed and My Heart Aches and now that the fic is finally done I’ll try and explain how although this may get a bit long and I wont go into too much detail about Viktor for companion fic reasons.

So the main three things that episode 10 changed in the fic was Viktor’s entire character, Yuuri as an unreliable narrator and the program music.

The most significant by far was Viktor’s character. Because pre episode 10 we really still didn’t know that much about Viktor and we had no idea about the banquet. So before episode 10 I assumed that Yuuri fell in love first and Viktor came to coach Yuuri out of curiosity because he likes surprises and doing something different and eventually and unexpectedly found himself falling in love. In a draft for another fic I was tossing ideas around for it actually centred on Viktor only realising he was in love with Yuuri just before the kiss in episode 7. Viktor was always very mysterious and I’m sure people who were in the fandom pre ep10 will remember all the theories that he was just using Yuuri and all that and while I didn’t believe that, I did assume that Viktor’s character trope was the ‘workaholic slowly learns how to love by being loved’ one.

But then episode 10 comes and completely knocks that out of the water because we find that Viktor is actually this adorable sappy romantic who calls Yuuri sleeping beauty and adores him and fell in love with him when he was wasted and dancing and brought life and love back into Viktor’s world. And that completely changed Viktor in the fic because after an episode from his pov I had a much better handle on his character and realised he absolutely wouldn’t act like he had been planned to act in the fic.

In the original plan he wasn’t ever a bad person or anything but he was actually a rival for Yuuri and he didn’t fall in love until much much later. But with episode 10 we also found out that Chris and Viktor are best buddies and Viktor likes skating with Chris and can’t imagine a season without him which means that in the fic there’s no way that Viktor would feel threatened by Yuuri as a rival because in canon he’s besties with his competitor and he’s way too much of a sweetheart for that. So in the fic it changed from Viktor reciprocating the rivalry to Viktor actually enjoying the challenge and excitement it brought into his life.

As for him falling in love, in chapter 10 the singing thing was always planned but that was originally the first sign that Viktor was starting to feel affection for Yuuri and was just the very beginning of him falling in love. It chapter 10! But after ep10 I realised that Viktor ‘love at first drunken dance’ Nikiforov would definitely not be having a solid two years of a ‘relationship’ and just be starting to fall because that would be seriously ooc and we finally saw just how much he adores Yuuri through his own eyes. And so in the fic I reworked the whole thing to fit with Viktor as a character as I now understood him and that included him falling first, falling hard and falling early.

Episode 10 also showed us just how much of an unreliable narrator Yuuri is, with the banquet and also how different everything seemed from Viktor’s eyes. And so that meant that I started to play with the idea of Yuuri being a seriously unreliable narrator and trying to tell a story where his version is very different to the version the audience see, which is obvious now pretty crucial to umfb&mha.

I also went back and reworked all the program music for the fic once episode 10 came out. Before it was all important and did have significance but after I knew that Viktor was going to fall early I decided to play around with the idea of showing the audience how he was feeling through his music. So I went back and completely changed the program music to tell a proper story (funny story, originally Yuuri was going to be the one skating to Sun and Moon. And then episode 10 happened and I looked at the new outline of the fic like ‘this is such a Viktor song oh my god).

Another thing that episode 10 changed was originally Chris wasn’t involved in the fic at all until we found out about his and Viktor’s friendship and that he’s actually such a bro not just a weird guy who gropes Yuuri and comes on the ice. As well as that, in episode 10 we also found out that Yuuri was actually the unknowing playboy in the Eros story not Viktor, coming into Viktor’s life, stealing his heart and then leaving without a word, which lead me adapting the fic to umfb!Yuuri becoming a perceived playboy by others through certain things that will be explored fully in the companion fic as a reference to that. There were also some smaller changes like the inclusion of the drunken Olympics and Yuuri knowing how to pole dance as a shout out to the episode.

Episode 12 also changed a lot. One of the things was Yurio and his role in the fic and how he feels about Yuuri which will be explored more in the companion fic. Also the original end of the fic was that Yuuri was going to try and fail to do the quad flip which ruins an otherwise perfect skate and potentially loses him the gold but he was willing to sacrifice it to tell Viktor. But in episode 12 we see that Yuuri can do a quad flip with his love for Viktor as motivation so it changed to Yuuri still potentially ruining his skate because he isn’t sure if he can land the jump but doing it anyway and actually succeeding because every time he tried and failed before it was because he was doing it out of bitterness trying to beat Viktor and this time he was doing it out of love.

The fic also changed a lot over the course of writing it just because characters take on a life of their own and my first draft was very rough and done before I’d written anything so I’ll try and do a chapter by chapter run down of the big changes from the rough plan I wrote before starting the fic to the end result.

Chapter 4:

·       Phichit originally wasn’t a big part of the fic but that very quickly changed because it’s Phichit and he’s so damn important to Yuuri and such an amazing character so I added him in early and made his part much bigger

·       There was originally going to be a discussion between Viktor and Yuuri that went badly and they both ended up annoyed and offended which sparked Viktor’s side of the rivalry but there was no way to do that without making them both dicks and ooc and after episode 10 it changed to Viktor trying to be helpful but unreliable narrator Yuuri taking it wrong and cutting the conversation short

Chapter 6:

·       Yuuri was originally going to be watching interviews and stuff of Viktor and thinking how arrogant and self-assured he was but this changed with Viktor’s character change because that’s just not him

·       Viktor was going to make a comment about Yuuri’s quads but this one was actually going to be an insult and again changed when Viktor’s character changed

·       The idea for the dream sequence only came later

Chapter 7:

·       Pole dancing only became a thing after episode 10

·       Viktor was going to only miss the GPS and come back for Worlds but lose because he wasn’t fully recovered but I decided I didn’t want the first time Yuuri won against Viktor to be so unsatisfying

·       The watching Yuuri skate at the rink didn’t originally happen at this point in the fic until after I saw ep 10

Chapter 8:

·       Yuuri never lost motivation originally but I decided at that point it was important in his character to almost give up but then come back with a vengeance

·       The drunken Olympics never originally happened

·       They were both originally going to be drunk when they first slept together but that got thrown out almost immediately because consent is very important and there was no way I was going to write a scene where both of them were drunk and therefore couldn’t give proper consent.  Also it was important it wasn’t a drunken mistake but a deliberate choice.

·       Viktor getting drinks never happened, instead he was going to be treating Yuuri in a similar way to how Yuuri was treating him

Chapter 9:

·       Yuuri was originally still going to be very hostile before I realised it was ooc and a dick move after Viktor was being nice to him so it changed to him congratulating Viktor after Viktor won. That then changed the sex scene from the mutual hatefuck it was going to be pre ep10 to Yuuri and the comments thing that sent him spiralling. The not-talking thing was also added as a plot device because Viktor as he became acted very differently to him as he was originally planned to be and it would have been too easy if he had been allowed to talk.

·       Viktor was originally going to take Yuuri out to dinner at the WC purely out of guilt

·       There was originally going to be another sex scene after the WC and dinner where Yuuri was angry at Viktor for ruining his skate but it would be ooc for both of them and got changed early on

Chapter 10:

·       Number swap was supposed to be just for hooking up but changed after ep10

·       Yuuri’s theme was originally going to be something related to hatred but it changed as his character developed and I realised how he was being affected by the events of the fic was different to the plan and that would be doing him a disservice as a character

·       Viktor was still kind of being a bit of a dick and making snide comments during sex when Yuuri won which was changed when I rewrote Viktor as a character after ep10

·       Conversation with Phichit was very short and didn’t involve a lot of the stuff it did in the final chapter

·       Viktor was again going to be acting very different in the second sex scene with none of the need or desperation that happened which all came about during his character change

·       Conversation with Chris never happened until the third of four re-writes of ep10 when I realised Viktor’s actions needed some more context for people who were ignoring the music

Chapter 11:

·       Lots of sex was supposed to happen in this chapter before I changed it for plot reasons and also companion fic reasons

·       Sex scene was supposed to be all about Yuuri acting like Eros Yuuri but those two idiots in love were very sappy and sentimental instead and it became a crucial relationship shift point instead

·       All domesticness from that chapter was planned out later in the fic as the fic was being written not in the first plan, including the borscht scene

Chapter 12:

·       Meal with the other skaters never happened

·       The revel about Yuuri’s virginity never happened in the first plan. Then in the rough draft of the chapter it happened at the same time as the second reveal but I split them because it worked better that way

·       This was when Viktor was supposed to secretly watch Yuuri skating his routine

·       Yurio wasn’t originally involved at all and Yuuri left after getting jealous. The love revelation never happened

Chapter 13:

·       Yurio appeared in this chapter instead although the conversation was very different in the rough plan because everything he talks about in the final version came about after episode 10 changed everything

·       Yuuri was originally going to be much more angry at the scandal and used his anger to win while Viktor still fucked up his skate but this changed early when I realised it was ooc and Yuuri would actually react very differently and that emotional devastation and heartbreak would ruin his skate instead

Chapter 14:

·       None of the conversations with Yuuri’s family were planned in detail in the first rough plan, I just knew he needed to go back to Hasetsu and have some revelations

·       Yuuri was supposed to convince himself that Viktor never loved him and never could and only realised Viktor’s feelings after seeing stammi vicino. This changed because it was very important for Yuuri to go and get some distance and time and then decided to come back and decided to try again with Viktor before he saw stammi vicino. It also changed because with Viktor as he became after ep10 and how he reacted there was no way that Yuuri would convince himself that Viktor never cared for him. He’s a bit emotionally dense sometimes but not an idiot

·       Yuuri was going to fall on the quad flip

So yeah, all this is from the very rough draft before I wrote any of it and the story adapted and changed along the way as I got more into the characters and got a better handle on how they would act until it became what you see today. It definitely became a much better story and I’m very happy with all the changes that I made! Having a plan is great for a framework but letting the characters grow and change naturally during the writing process is much more fun and I think makes for a better story

  • Newsies Boyband AU!
  • Now first of all I would call them the Newsboys but like…that’s a real band that exists so idk what their name would be
  • But anyway! Boybands! Fun and cute and lots of wiggle room!
  • Crutchie
    • lead singer
    • beloved by his bandmates and by most fans but every once in awhile there’s that one fan
      • Idk I just think Charlie is overrated….he can’t sing that well, Jack has a nicer voice, and I think he only gets to sing lead because of his leg :/ I’m not ableist or anything, I just don’t like him
    • Mostly Crutchie ignores things like that but once in awhile he wonders if they’re true
  • Jack
    • lead guitar/harmonies
    • very much the Hot Onetm but people tend to overlook his talents
    • designed the logo and does all of the shirts and album covers but doesn’t make that public knowledge
    • the Crutchie Bashers usually use Jack as an excuse and Jack is having none of it he’s a master vague tweeter
      • I love all my bandmates and everyone is perfectly suited to what they do, from lights to vocals!
      • I feel like people forget Crutch and I have been best friends since fifth grade and I have videos like this cause if they didn’t they’d ask for more [video of Crutchie singing The Wizard and I at a middle school talent show]
    • he loves singing harmony, and only sings lead if somebody makes him. two songs in their repertoire include him on melody
  • Race
    • the drummer
    • (haha guess who still likes EYDW with all his heart?)
    • he’s the Wild Onetm but everyone adores him because he’s cute and funny
    • Racetrack Higgins Highlights:
      • “So I was like, fuck it-wait shit I can’t swear in interviews-fuck! Dammit, sorry, I-” “Race just stop talking”
      • he broke a snare during a concert once and put it on his head like a hat
      • pictures of him kissing everyone in the band, on crew, and even fans on the cheek but it’s because that’s what he does. In Italy. That’s how you greet people. and it just carried over
      • always wears a necklace with a shark tooth. gazes into the distance when asked where it was from and responds with, “I’ll never forget her.” Actually bought it Wings on a day off in North Carolina
      • changes hair colors every other week. fans go to two concerts in two days. first one he has bright red hair. next day it’s bright blue.
      • slowly acquiring more piercing until one day they’re all gone.
        • “Lmao you though those were real? I cried when I got a single ear piercing.”
      • then people think his tattoo is fake and it isn’t but it’s ridiculous. like literally the word “THOT” on the back of his neck. Spot dared him to.
    • so people love him even though he’s wild
  • Spot
    • designs sound for recordings and live shows
    • most fans only know him as the one goading Race on
    • but once in a while somebody recognizes him in the sound booth and is like “ahh, that’s who he is”
    • also secretly write lyrics sometimes but asks to be credited as “Sam Carlson” so his poetic writing doesn’t ruin his tough guy image
    • which makes people think of all these crazy theories as to who Sam Carlson is and why he writes songs randomly for the band
    • is the only reason Race hasn’t gotten lost on tour in a gas station
    • is the one who set up the Walkie Talkie system that keeps everyone organized
    • the star of Jack’s snapchat story half the time but never caught doing anything strange? people just know he’s awesome and says funny things
    • is the one who adopted the cat and resulted in him being named Asshole but it was an accident
  • Katherine and Sarah
    • managers and lighting designers
    • really cool and really gay
    • every time they’re doing a show around a Pride parade time or during Pride month there are rainbows and other flags everywhere
    • Sarah is also in charge of PR after the Incident of Race accidentally DMing a fan who’s username included Jack’s name something along the lines of “sup fuckface where are you everyone else is here and you’re the one who said he was bringing the good stuff”
      • by good stuff he’d simply meant the Purple Doritos but the fan didn’t know that and it took a while for people to let that go
    • People think Jack and Kat are dating for a long time because they’re always together
    • it literally took like fifty pictures of Kat and Saz kissing before people stopped denying how gay she was
  • Davey
    • plays bass but also violin and other related string instruments
    • sometimes sings a third part but not usually
    • people don’t give him much credit until there’s a new song
    • which starts out really slow and is only Jack singing and Davey playing cello but mid song it picks up and Dave changes instruments really fast like in the space of one beat to violin and goes really hard and the song tops the charts for weeks because it’s like crazy good
      • “yeah I’m a classically trained violinist, I just usually have more fun on bass” “…” “but i like that song a lot, most times I’m on violin it’s slow and boring”
    • that song is also when most of the Crutchie Bashing started because it was the first really popular one that featured Jack on melody since only Jack sang
  • Their shows are legendary for being good like the vocals the instrumentals everything is always good
  • they got their start in college where Crutchie got them into one of the theatres and it was just for fun
  • but Race, the wild one even in the very beginning, realized that they were actually really good and signed them up for some show like America’s Got Talent or something like that
  • and while they didn’t win overall, they did get enough attention to get a record deal
  • and then they just EXPLODED and became the new big thing
  • which kind of freaked all of them out a little bit because what has started as fun music with friends was suddenly paparazzi and crazy fans and people wanting to know “when is it what is it where is it how are you will you” about their songs
  • but they mostly acclimated pretty fast
    • Crutchie had the hardest time because while he’s friendly he’s also a but of an introvert and needs his privacy which was suddenly a lot harder to find
  • like most boybands, instantly there were Those Fans who shipped people
    • the most common one became Jack and Race because they seemed like the ones most likely to like each other
    • really though it was Spot and Race, who balanced each other out, and Jack and Crutchie, who’d been in love for years and only figure it out when people started trying to ship Jack and Race which made Crutchie really jealous, and the people who nobody knew as well like Specs and Romeo, Kat and Saz (at first they became better known later), etc
  • they get a really good rep with people because they’re always willing to take a selfie or like fanart as long as it isn’t creepy, or answer questions
  • Jack hosts monthly Q&A sessions on his snapchat and each time it’s somebody new
    • so like the first one is Crutchie, then Davey, then Race, then Katherine, then Sarah, the Romeo, etc
  • They don’t come out for a long time but one day they’re performing in a town where there’s this big news story about a gay kid getting harassed at school and they know the kid is there because it was the only positive thing they found on his twitter, so they all come out together like the entire band and crew
    • “So we’ve heard about some of the stuff that’s been going on here, and we want everyone to know that we don’t agree with it, at all. In fact, things like that effect us, too. I’m not the most eloquent speaker, but if you’re hurting today because of who you are, of how you’re born, know that you’ll always have support with us.”
    • And Jack kisses Crutchie in public for the first time which leads to Race stealing Crutchie’s mic and yelling something about “get up here asshat we can’t let him show us up!” and then suddenly every single couple involved in the band is on stage being proud of who they are
    • the kid who was getting bullied cried and then they invited him backstage and he cried more and it was really sweet and they stayed in touch
  • After that the Discoursetm is horrible around them for like, months
    • “reminder that Jack is dating Crutchie and shipping him with Race is not cool”
    • “reminder that we can ship whoever we want with whoever we want and it doesn’t cause harm”
    • “stop calling Jack bi when he’s gay, don’t erase his identity” (jack retweets it with the added caption “I’m bi as heck actually everyone is pretty and it’s not fair :)”
    • “they’re just faking it for attention!!!1!!1″
  • after a few years they announce it’s their last tour and people are like “oh no, what happened, did people start fighting?”
  • and their answer is “no but we’re like twenty eight now and honestly just want to get married and settle down”
    • except for Spot and Race who plan on going around the world in eighty days and then getting a dog and doing it again with the dog
    • or at least, that Race’s plan, Spot just honestly wants to stop moving around and settle down a bit, but maybe not get married yet
  • So the band breaks up and people are kinda sad but every time they’re all in one place, which is pretty often since they’re all best friends, somebody snapchat/instagram/twitter/youtube gets a new video of them messing around
  • Jack and Davey out out a solo album and it’s really good
  • Crutchie gets coerced into releasing a Christmas album and it’s funny
  • and Davey makes a Hanukkah album that’s him playing and singing traditional songs that he sang growing up and it’s gorgeous
  • Bonus: Red Carpet Tidbits
    • because I have a lot of feelings about Crutchie’s style
      • Crutchie gets known for never wearing a normal tux like it’s always custom done and never just black or navy
      • also his makeup is always On Point like crazy good and people are like “tell us your secrets” and he’s like “lol cvs and years of practice and makeup tutorials from YouTube”
  • Jack wears normal suites but there’s always a twist
    • the first was the time he actually just spilled paint on himself in the suit bc he’s an idiot but there wasn’t time for a new one so they ended up just going with it and it looked pretty okay
    • and after that he get’s suites from like Macy’s modified to look better on him and to add cool things
    • also his hat game is pretty terrific
    • he’s also a total hipster and people know it
  • Davey wears totally normal red carpet men’s attire but lets Crutchie do his makeup and look absolutely gorgeous
  • Race wears crazy stuff
    • like you know the Great Comet ensemble costume design? probably things like that. formal wear turned into punk style things and he pulls it off and lets Crutchie do his makeup too
  • the best picture of the band is from like, the Grammys or some award show like that where Crutchie is in a purple suit, Jack is wearing a beanie and a jackson pollock styled color splashed suit, dave is looking fine in a perfectly normal suit and SUPER Extra but good makeup, and Race is like barely clothed but still obviously supposed to be wearing a suit like thing and like a foot shorter than everyone
Movie Night

It’s here! The first part of “Our Girl” is here! This is a Dean x Reader x Sam series.

Pairing: Dean x Reader x Sam (polyamorous)
Words:  1076

A/N: This is an open series. You can request things for it at any time. It’ll probably be open for a while, so request away!
A/N: If you want tagged in anything, just let me know. :)

“Come on, Sam!” you and Dean both yelled from where the two of you were perched in bed. You had a bowl full of a mix of snacks made into a kind of trail mix. Dean had the drinks lined up for the three of you. Sam was in charge of the milkshakes you had requested. And he was taking too long for your and Dean’s liking.

“I’m here,” Sam laughed, walking into the room with the three milkshakes, “You two are so impatient.”

“Well, yeah,” you grinned up at him.

Sam put the milkshakes on the nightstand and climbed into bed next to you, “What are we watching?” he asked.

“It was Y/N’s turn to pick,” Dean grumbled slightly.

Sam laughed, “Which musical are we watching this time?” he asked, knowing your movie taste well.

           “Chicago,” you grinned.

“I can live with Chicago,” Sam said.

'Once Upon a Time' Creators Defend Cast Shakeup: Fans Want Us to 'Rot in Hell'
Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz tell TheWrap in an interview that "it was time to end one adventure and begin a new one"

“Once Upon a Time” fans experienced quite the roller coaster ride over the course of the past week, and that was even before Sunday’s game-changing Season 6 finale aired.

ABC picked up the fairy-tale drama series for a seventh season on Thursday, but this was quickly followed by the news on Friday that the upcoming run would be without its core cast members, as Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow) and Josh Dallas (Charming) are joining Jennifer Morrison (Emma) out the door at the end of the season.

“OUAT” co-creators and executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz tell TheWrap in an interview that they have known for the better part of a year that these cast members would be leaving, and that the show’s refocus is all about what’s best creatively. However, they are aware that some fans might not exactly be thrilled to say goodbye to their favorite characters — or less euphemistically, that there are viewers who want them to “rot in hell.”

The showrunners also weighed in on which departing cast member still wanted to stay with the show, how soon viewers will meet the mom of Henry’s daughter and why the new season will be similar to the first.

News broke last week that a number of cast members are leaving. How do you feel about fans’ reactions to the shakeup?

Adam Horowitz: To be quite honest, we haven’t looked at a lot of it because we can guess that the reactions [range] from, “I will never watch this show again,” and “Rot in hell.” But these are the same people two weeks ago that were saying, “When are they going to give someone their happy ending?” So if we listened to the internet, there’s too many voices and too many opinions. What we felt was the show always was bold: At the end of Season 1, we broke the premise of the show, and we broke the curse. And I think everybody would agree six seasons later that if Emma still didn’t believe in it, the show would not be on the air. So we felt it was time to end one adventure and begin a new one.

Edward Kitsis: We want the fans to enjoy the show, obviously, but we have to find the way to keep it surprising and keep it fresh and keep it moving forward. If there are questions about what we’re going to do and how they feel about it, I think our hope is that when they see what we’re planning to do, that they’re just as engaged as they’ve always been.

The Season 6 finale felt like it could have been a series finale. At what point were you assured by the network that the show would be coming back?

Kitsis: We have been talking with the network all year, but in a lot of ways, it could have been a series finale, absolutely. As we said, we wanted to end the chapter to that first book. We had gone into the year always wanting to do that. If we didn’t have a Season 7, that would have been exactly how we ended the show. We’ve been putting this new iteration together for a while.

Horowitz: We’ve been talking with the studio and the network about this for a very long time, and if it hadn’t worked out, it would have ended the same way, but we’re just glad everybody wanted to continue.

Josh and Ginnifer told you about a year ago that they were ready to move back to Los Angeles [from Vancouver, where the series shoots]. But when did you know that the other cast members would be leaving? Were any of the casting decisions made in an effort to save money and help ensure that the show gets renewed?

Kitsis: It’s really a case of, it’s an ensemble show, and a lot of people are at different points in their life. And after 134 episodes, some people, they’ve been living away from home for six years, and some people wanted to return, some people had kids. So we started the year kind of knowing who wanted to stay on if we were going to get another year, and who decided it was time, as we said, to retire their jersey after a hall of fame career. Josh and Ginny, we knew they were going to leave this year, so we wrote a year that allowed them to get their happy ending. Everything was amicable — there was [nothing based on] pickups. Everything was made out of a creative decision, which is hard for people to believe, I guess.

Horowitz: It’s funny because the announcements came out last week, so as far as the fans were concerned, it was like, “Wow, all at once.” But this is stuff we’ve been talking about all year, so we’ve designed the whole season to reach this point. It wasn’t like, all of sudden last week we had to do a giant rewrite. It’s just, it kind of is what it is. Shows that are lucky enough to be on as long as we have, have to at certain points change and grow and go in different directions, and I think that’s what’s happened. For us, this is a natural evolution of what the show has always been.

Kitsis: For us, every year felt like a new season of a new show anyway, so we’re willing to do another high-wire act.

It sounds like Rebecca Mader (Zelena) wanted to continue with the show. Was that just a situation where there aren’t more stories to tell with her character?

Kitsis: That was a really hard one because we worked with Rebecca on “Lost.” We literally created the role for her — we called her and said, “We have a role for you — will you come on and do the show?” She’s phenomenal. “Wicked Always Wins” is one of my favorite songs from the [“OUAT”] musical. And it’s like having this great player, but we felt like we’re kind of doing this new thing next year, and unfortunately, creatively there wasn’t a place yet. But that doesn’t mean we won’t see her back because we love Rebecca, we love that role. We don’t think it will be the last we see of her — it just means she’s not going to be a regular in the way she’s carried on for the last few years.

How often might the exiting characters pop up in Season 7 cameos?

Horowitz: I think what we can tell is you can see everybody. Even people who have been dead on our show come back three years later. There’s a difference between, “I want to do a couple [episodes] a year,” and “I want to be there permanently.”

Kitsis: I think if all goes according to plan, you’ll see a lot of people pop in and out. It wasn’t like we did a finale for Season 6 where there was a massacre at the end. These characters are going on, so we would love to have them go in and out as they can and if the story warrants it.

The finale revealed that Henry has a daughter. How soon will we find out who the mom is, and is it someone from the fairy-tale realm?

Horowitz: We will find out who she is in the premiere. It will be somebody from the fairy-tale realm, and what we can tell you is that Henry and that woman will be an epic romance in the tradition of Snow and Charming.

Fans have been trying to guess which new characters will be introduced. What can you tease about that? Can we assume Moana might be on the horizon?

Horowitz: Like always, we will be pulling from the iconic, both the new and the historical. For us, the fun of this is getting to retell origin stories, finding out who people are in the real world without magic.

Seokjin (Jin)

Seokjin’s hands itched to hold you close. The burning prickle to run his hands through your soft locks, cradle your cheek in his large palm and whisper sweet promises into your ear. The breakup had been messy; your company finding out about your secret blossoming relationship without any regard for your dating ban had even Bang Shi Hyuk stepping in to avoid disaster.

“Not for me,

I don’t think it will be easy,

You still fill up my day to day,

Not yet,

I repeat it like a fool,

But I can’t swallow the words on my lips,

It’s not fine, ah~”

Your voice echoed powerfully throughout the arena, pouring every emotion, every tear into the words of your song. You gazed across the audience, faces blurring together until you landed on Seokjin’s tall frame, easily recognizable in the front row tables. Tears began welling in your eyes, unsaid words pouring out to the crowd that you prayed he alone would understand.

Yoongi (Suga)

Yoongi lounged in one of the comfy couches of the waiting room, makeup and hair already done. The sound of the TV airing the groups who just performed filtered in through the air, idly listening over the banter of the rest of the members as he checked his social media.

The sound of your voice echoed throughout the room, too loudly in Yoongi’s ears as his attention snapped to the TV. The screen was filled with an image of you, one he had committed to memory, every flaw, every dark circle under your eyes during the long, sleepless nights.

“It’s 11:11,

When there’s not much time left to the day,

When we used to make wishes and laugh,

Everything reminds me of you,

The wind is as cold as the edge of your heart,

When I open the window, you blow in,

When this time passes, will this breakup be over? Yeah~

Will I forget you?”

The small acoustic performance fit you. You were never one for fussy stages or complicated songs. You preferred raw, emotional ballads, songs that spoke to the heart and pulled at your memories.

Yoongi’s jaw set, an attempt to control his features. Jimin came up, camera in hand, light blinking blue on the back of his phone to signify he was shooting a V-Live.

Hyung, say hi!” Jimin took notice of Yoongi’s set features, and straightened posture and furrowed his brow. Yoongi gave a quick half smile to the camera and focused his attention back on the screen, where he caught the tail end of your performance, tears streaming down your face.

“Must be pre-show jitters,” Jimin commented to the camera, heading in the opposite direction towards Taehyung and Jungguk.

Yoongi quickly pulled out his black leather-bound notebook and a pen, and quickly started writing down thoughts, biting is lip to control all the aimless emotions in his head.

Hoseok (J-Hope)

Hoseok had stopped mid warmup to the sound of your voice filtering in through the practice room speakers hooked up to the radio. It echoed off the walls harshly, leaving him with no choice but to stand quietly and listen. It was a radio interview, promoting the new single you had just released the day prior.

“It’s more sad than what your fans are used to, isn’t it?” The host asked and you chuckled lightly, breath catching the mic.

“Yes,” you agreed. The ballad was a complete 180 from your normal pop style but you were happy with the change, Hoseok could hear it in your voice.

He knew he should have stopped, should have turned the station to something that played a mindless beat, the same rhythm over and over, something he could dance away all the thoughts running through his mind.

Hoseok walked over to the radio, hand gently laying on top with every intention of doing just that. But burning curiousity got the better of him at hearing your next words.

“I was in a really happy place when I wrote this. It’s about someone very dear; even though they are no longer in my life they continue to help me through my day to day.”

“Would you like to sing an piece of it for your fans?” the host asked.

“Of course.” Hoseok could hear the smile in your voice, could picture just how your lips lifted, and cheeks bunched up, nose scrunching the tiniest bit. He leaned his head back and closed his eyes, your angelic voice filling his ears.

“Cause you are,

The light that feel on me,

You are,

Like a beautiful dream,

With seven rays, the whole world,

Is dyed even more beautifully,

Always, yeah you are,”

The interview became quiet and a small sniffle Hoseok recognized immediately as yours permeated the air waves. “Would you like to take a quick break?” the host offered.

With that, Hoseok immediately turned the station and rubbed a sweaty palm over his face. He exhaled heavily, a deep set frown etched onto his lips. He began to stretch his limbs thoroughly, planning to throw himself into practice to try and forget the words etched into his heart, your voice ringing in his ears.

Namjoon (Rap Monster)

Namjoon stood in between his members, smile plastered dumbly on his face even though his insides felt full of mud. His brain processed things slowly, but heart beat that challenged that of a race horse. He hadn’t been this close to you since your split, conflicting schedules being the sole reason. Butterflies blossomed in his chest and soared through his veins at the sight of you, and from the blush that was dusting your cheeks, he was hoping your feelings hadn’t faded either.

“So, (Y/N)-ssi,” Don started. “I hear you wrote your newest promotional song.”

The faint blush deepened and you covered you mouth with a sleeved hand. “Yes, that’s right,” you smiled shyly.

“Mind giving us a sneak peak?” Don asked. You looked over towards your manager, sitting off screen, and he gave two thumbs up. You smiled and nodded, exhaling sharply.

“Still, I hear your sounds,

And still, I feel your hand,

Even today, I lived within your tracks,

Still, I see your image,

And still, I feel your warmth,

Even today, I lived inside your time.”

Your eyes glassed over with the beginnings of tears, and you covered your face, embarrassment creeping up your spine. The rest of your members smiled fondly and clapped, as Bangtan clapped as well and made noises of approval.

Something like pride flooded Namjoon’s chest before he quickly squashed that down. He would let himself have this moment, let show a smile fonder than the rest of his members, before he would go back to being polite yet aloof, keeping a respectful distance from your group.

Taehyung (V)

Taehyung leaned over, large hand covering his mouth. “Jiminnie, I don’t know if I can do this.” He licked his dry lips and leaned back to gaze at Jimin, an unfamiliar, serious expression setting Taehyung’s features.

Jimin smiled apologetically and gave a reassuring squeeze to his knee, resting his hand there. Taehyung leaned back in his seat, handing wiping aimlessly at his mouth, as he watched the staff set up for your solo stage. The lights dimmed, and Taehyung could feel his heart begin to pound as you made your way onto the stage, front and center, to the lone mic.

You smiled warmly at the crowd as the soft piano filled the arena. You searched for Taehyung in the crowd, but were unable to find him in the dim lighting. Your heart sank a little at not being able to see him, but knowing his eyes were trained on you alone gave you the confidence to sing your deepest feelings in front of so many prying eyes.

“I don’t know since when, in this endless ordeal,

Your gaze whispers to me, “It’s okay,”,

Then there’s you,

At the end of my parched world,

Oh, it’s you,

Became sweet rain and made it fall,

For a long time, deep in my heart,

This precious word I’ve hidden away,

I love you,”

Your voice choked on the last note, tears running down your face as you unabashedly let them fall. Taehyung’s He ached to hold you. To wipe away your tears. Your relationship hadn’t been the best. You fought, argued about pointless things, neither one wanting to admit they were wrong. But when things were going right, it was amazing. Pillow fights, tickle wars, cooking that always ended in disaster and takeout. You were someone he looked forward to talk to every night, be it over the phone or through a computer screen. Taehyung gulped down the lump in his throat, willing away any form of tears that might betray his stoic face.

The tower of the future built with anticipation collapses in a single moment, oh,

The big embrace that would hug even despair will only be hollow,

Your lie that didn’t know gaze and touch,

It’s over, all of it,”

Your words screamed into the mic of your solo stage rang through Jimin’s chest louder than he thought any song ever could. Your words filled with the distrust you felt then made his skin crawl, sick with disgust for his own actions. He had never meant for any of it to happen, for it to get so out of hand. And when you walked in, right in the middle of everything, Jimin felt your trust crumble instantly.

Jimin could feel your eyes on him, even if it was only his imagination at play. He itched to hide behind his hair, anything to get you out of his line of sight.  He watched as tears clung to your lashes, and could almost feel the pounding of your heart.

Jimin kept a careful stoic face, but not having the courage to watch you perform, instead aiming his gaze at the stage floor where the lights shone brightly on you. You finished your performance with cheers and whistles from the crowd, and the look of triumph aimed in Jimin’s direction had him sinking further into his seat, wishing it would just swallow him whole.

Jungguk (Jungkook)

Jungguk prayed that if there were any cameras filming this joint radio interview, that he would be as inconspicuous as possible. It was by sheer bad luck that BTS’s sister group, your group, had been invited along to the interview with their new studio album being released. He should have known when one of their managers pulled him aside before the interview started and warned him you would be here, that he would not enjoy this experience.

Jungguk tried to steady his thrumming heart, his eyes unconsciously drifting to you when he wasn’t paying attention.

“So, (Y/N)-ssi,” the radio host began. Jungguk found himself watching you again, hoping his face remained as neutral as possible. “Is there any particular song you like best on the new album?”

You hummed in acknowledgement. “Yes, there is one song I’m really fond of. It’s one I wrote myself; a ballad.” A tight smile appeared on your delicate face, preparing yourself for the question that would come next.

“Would you mind singing a verse of it for us?”

You could feel Jungguk’s gaze lingering on you and looked to your leader beside you for courage. She gave a comforting smile as you exhaled deeply and closed your eyes.

“But still, when I think of your name,

Tears well up and when I close my eyes,

And even though everything has changed,

You’re always at the same place, looking the same,

Making me cry.”

You quickly wiped away the tears that stung your eyes and smiled sheepishly at the host. “That was beautiful,” she commented with a sad smile. “Is it about anyone in particular?”

You froze at the unexpected question and made the mistake of glancing at Jungguk. His eyes widened, and you could see how uncomfortable he had become, mouth slightly agape, shifting in his seat every couple of minutes. He gulped, and you quickly averted your gaze. You smiled shyly and waved your hand in front of your face, hoping to not look too apprehensive with your blatent lie. “Not, really. I-I just have a soft spot for ballads.”

9 Reasons Why the New “Beauty and the Beast” is Better Than the 1991 Original

I know, such a crazy notion, but as a die-hard fan of the original 1991 animated classic, as a young woman who adored Belle and looked up to her as a young girl, and as someone who loves Disney, I truly believe that while the cartoon classic is phenomenal, the new live-action reimagining is astoundingly better. Here are my reasons why:

1. Back-story

In the original I always had SO MANY QUESTIONS. Mainly–how in the hell did a village less than a few miles away not know that a giant castle that once was home to a wealthy and powerful Prince was RIGHT THERE? Who was the Prince ruling over if the villagers had no clue this place and this beast existed? Why were the servants cursed if they weren’t the ones who turned the old woman away? Why was the Prince so cold-hearted, arrogant, and shallow? The prologue amongst other scenes in the 2017 film address all these questions.

We learn that the enchantress placed a spell on the villagers to make them forget about the Prince and everyone in the castle. This explains how no one knew it was there, and also the sense of lawlessness in the village, because if their ruler–the Prince–vanished, and no one remembered him then whose in charge? Gaston? No wonder it’s a mess there.

We also learn why Beast is so cold-hearted, we learn his mother died when he was young and his father was emotionally abusive, and raised him to be a spoiled, arrogant, shallow shell of a man. We also learn that the servants witnessed the emotional abuse of this child and did nothing to stop it–deeming them worthy of punishment for being so cowardly and selfish as to not help the Prince when he was young.

Now someone asked me why the hell Chip and the dog were cursed too, they didn’t do anything. My theory is the curse was really only taking effect inside the ballroom, all the servants were in there for the ball, and in the opening sequence we see Chip running in to see what’s the matter and Mrs. Potts running after him–terrified. I believe she sensed the danger in the ballroom, and was trying to save Chip from meeting the same fate as the rest of them, and ultimately–she failed. The Maestro and Madame de Garderobe’s dog was in the ballroom as well, so I guess he was just unlucky also.

We also learn that Cogsworth and Mrs. Potts had spouses who must’ve been away from the castle when the spell was cast, causing them tragically (at least in Mrs. Potts case) to be forgotten by their loves.

2. Belle the Feminist Activist

It was never made clear in the cartoon film that it wasn’t just ‘odd’ that Belle liked reading it was ‘odd’ that a low-born woman in 18th century France even COULD read. It wouldn’t occur to children (it certainly didn’t to me) that her reading in public is practically illegal and worthy of public shame. In the cartoon it was just all ‘lol books are lame,’ In the live action not only does Belle not have a town bookshop to go to (because seriously, why would a town of mostly illiterate people who hate reading have a bookshop) she is merely friends with the Priest who owns less than a dozen books. THAT IS ALL SHE HAS. And then she teaches another young girl how to read and is publicly shamed for it, and still doesn’t back down, because she believes that women deserve the same rights as men.

In the beginning sequence of the town, we literally see boys marching into school while the girls are stuck doing the wash. Belle also refuses to waste valuable reading time on the laundry–so girl INVENTS A WASHING MACHINE!

When Belle gets to the castle, she tricks the Beast into taking her instead. She tries savvy ways to escape. She never flings herself onto the bed and cries like in the cartoon. She fights every damn second.

In the end she doesn’t even change out of her ballgown to go save her father, she just hops on her horse and goes.

Belle was ALWAYS strong, but this 2017 Belle is formidable and a force to be reckoned with.

3. Tragic love

In the 1991 film, the wardrobe was a goofy character there for laughs, as was Plumette. Also, Lumiere and Plumette’s relationship in the cartoon was creepy and borderline sexual harassment. It was pure lust. In this version, they are madly in love and Lumiere clearly cares about her so much.

We also see Madama de Garderobe and Maestro Cadenza (a brilliant new character) who are also madly in love, but unlike Lumiere and Plumette can’t even be with one another during the curse due to the stationary limitations as the objects they’ve been cursed to be. By the time Madame finally makes her way downstairs to be with Maestro it is too late, the curse is taking away their life. The moment when Lumiere realizes he has lost Plumette, and where Maestro realizes he has lost Madame, add a heart-breaking very raw and real layer to the story. It’s not just about Belle and Beast, these servants aren’t just funny objects that talk, they were people too. They had a life and loves and that was stolen from them just as it was the Beast.

4. Papa and Belle’s Motherless Backstory

In the cartoon, Belle’s father is simply a goofy character. He’s a blithering idiot who makes pointless inventions. In this version, he is an artist who had to leave his plagued wife behind in Paris in order to save their only daughter. We see him live with the pain of this everyday. We see him and Belle have a beautiful, genuine relationship. We see him fight whole-heartedly for Belle. We see him give her courage and strength to never back down from who she is.

And we learn something that the cartoon NEVER gave us–we learn of Belle’s mother. Lost to the plague when Belle was a babe, with nothing but a rose-shaped rattle to remember her by, that her Father captured in a painting. Explaining why Belle always asks for one. We learn that Belle–like her father and mother–is willing to sacrifice everything for the ones that she loves.

5. Classic Fairytale Homage

While the cartoon held almost no remnants of the original fairytale written over 500 years ago, or the original French film made in the 40s, the 2017 version pays homage to both.

Belle asking for simply a rose from her father’s travels, as well as Beast and his servants preparing Maurice a fire and dinner when he arrives at the castle, but Beast only growing angry when Maurice steals the rose–is taken directly from the pages of the fairytale.

We also see another fun easter egg reference to the french film: when Maurice walks up to the door–he sees the front lantern is being held by what looks like a human arm made of stone, which in the French film, was an incredibly iconic scene when Belle walks through the dungeon to find her father.

6. A Real Antagonist

Cartoon Gaston is again, a 2D character there to provide some conflict at the end. The 2017 version shows him as the epitome of prejudice, hatred and sexism. He expresses many times throughout the film the the sees Belle as prey for him to hunt. He leaves Maurice for dead in the wood. The lyrics of the mob song were even changed to include his verse “but I know they all will follow, for in times like this they do just as I say.” Gaston is the scariest Disney villain because people like him exist in real-life. Gaston and his angry mob of blind-followers provide a tangible conflict outside of the curse that the cartoon simply did not provide.

7. A Shared Love of Reading

It never made a damn bit of sense in the 1991 cartoon and the Broadway musical adaptation–that Beast was illiterate. If ANYONE during the time could read it sure as hell would’ve been the wealthy Prince. All aristocracy could read and most men knew how to read a little. So yeah, a Prince could read.

So the fact that he and Belle share a love of reading adds and element to their friendship bred romance that didn’t exist prior to this reimagining.

8. New Music

What would Beauty and the Beast be without those iconic numbers like: ‘Belle,’ ‘Gaston,’ ‘Be Our Guest,’ and of course, the title song–made famous by Angela Lansbury– ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ When Broadway adapted the cartoon film years ago, they added some songs of their own, such as the Broadway-Buff-Beloved number– ‘Home.’ So naturally it would’ve been easy for the writers and directors of this film to just buy the rights to those songs and call it a day. Instead we got 5 gorgeous new numbers, and 1 new reprise. We got the opening ‘Aria,’ sung at the Prince’s beginning ball by Madame de Garderobe, we get ‘How Does a Moment Last Forever,’ sung by Maurice, singing about remembering his late wife. Then we later get the Montmartre of this song sung by Belle as she recalls the lost ‘Paris of her childhood,’ in an all new scene where her and Beast use a magic book to travel to the attic where she lost her mother. We get ‘Days in the Sun,’ where we hear from the servants and the pain they feel as well living under the curse. We get, ‘Evermore,’ the torrid, angst-filled lamenting ballad Beast sings when he let’s Belle go. And lastly, we get a never before heard reprise of ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ sung by Mrs. Potts ( Emma Thompson) at Belle and Beast’s wedding. These news songs add more passion to the film. (Evermore is my personal favorite)

9. Gay Lefou

It’s about damn time. Cartoon Lefou is definitely alluded to being in-love with Gaston, but Josh Gads blatantly homosexual portrayal was brilliant, and as a member of the queer community–made me so happy.

Yes, in ‘Frozen’ we got the one throw-away joke about Oaken being gay, but it was 0.5 seconds long and barely delved into. In this 2017 film, Lefou makes many sexual innuendos towards Gaston, publicly cuddles Gaston, and in the end dances happily with another queer fellow at Belle and Beast’s wedding, and this is an amazing step forward for the Disney franchise to start having openly queer characters in their films.

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT! My 9 reasons why the 2017 Beauty and the Beast is better than the 1991 original. I still love the original and it will always have a fond place in my heart–but when movie nights of the future come round, I will opt to put on the 2017 version instead, and experience a Tale as Old as Time, retold for a new generation.

“But Kyungsoo?” You broke the silence that had settled over the car with a sudden realization, and you worked up the nerve for at least ten whole minutes before you even dared to speak.

“Hmm?” He turned to look at you with his eyebrows lifted and his lips pulled inside his mouth between his teeth and you had to quickly look away from him, opting to check your rear view menu instead of look at his face. Now that you’d actually gotten his attention you felt your words stick a bit in your throat.

“Umm..” you spoke lamely with a wince at your own nerves, “D-Do I look okay for such a fancy restaurant?”

“Hello everybody, my name is Markiplier, and I’m sick, which is kinda cool, except for the fact that it’s not.” Mark rasped into his microphone, proving that he was indeed very sick.

You knew that Mark wasn’t feeling too well, and you couldn’t believe he was still willing to risk his own health in order to give his fans some new content, even if it only was a few minutes long. So no matter how much you had argued at first that he shouldn’t be filming when he was sick, you finally agreed to be in it with him because you knew how much he wanted to do it.

“And also, I’m here with my girlfriend, (Y/N), which is actually pretty exciting since she rarely makes an appearance in any of my videos.” He said, smiling as he turned to the side to look at you and acknowledge your presence so that the viewers would know who you were if they didn’t already. “Say hi babe.”

You sat on the sofa braiding your daughter’s hair while you watched a movie. She was content flipping through the pages of her picture book. She spent the entire day running around the park with Steve and she was tired but trying to fight it. As you combed through a section she broke the mutual quiet with a soft question.

“Is Daddy coming over later?” her voice was small and light as if she had been thinking the question for a very long time to no avail and now was trying to downplay her interest.

“I don’t know, he said he had some work stuff to do, but you spent all day with him.”

“Yeah, I want to spend even more time!” she exclaimed and you laughed a little.

“Why is that, Kira?”

“Because he’s lots of fun.”

“Steve is lots of fun, huh?”

“You guys are getting married, right?”

“Yeah, next year,” you answered.

“Will we move in with him then?”

“Yeah, we’ll be closer to your school,” you answered. She was quiet again, satisfied with the answers to her questions. Steve was a great a guy but he was not Kira’s biological father. You met him a while ago, back when you were pregnant with Kira and going through hell with her actual  father. The two of you met through Sam. He came by your place asking for somewhere to stay when his apartment was obliterated by some villain. He came with Captain America. You were quick to become friends with Steve, and after Kira was born and your previous relationship was all the way over, you let him take you out for a few dates. That proved to be one of the best decisions you’ve ever made. He was always respectful towards you and your baby, never keeping you out too late and even planning dates that Kira could come along on. Steve Rogers wasn’t hard to fall in love with by any means.

The following day I arrived at the studio early and made my way down to studio two. I was about to push into the first door but stopped and backtracked.

I noticed the plaques outside the wall.

I began at the first one which summarized the rise in her career. Starting at seventeen, she was discovered by a manager and quickly rose to fame. I lingered over a picture of her, he was standing next someone who I assumed was the studio owner. She looked much younger and much more innocent, the persona of the cool mysterious girl hadn’t yet been produced. As I moved onto the next plaque they focused more on her time at the studio going over how she recorded every one of her four albums within that very studio. But I found myself watching the pictures and slowly I saw the progression of age and image she developed.

Just reading the four plaques I felt the pressure she had. It was clear there was a lot of history in that room and there would be even more if she managed to make her next one in that room.

Four skaters from Japan, Rika Hongo, Keiji Tanaka, Satoko Miyahara and Yuzuru Hanyu talked to us about their skating career before the ISU Four Continents Championships 2017.

Q = Interviewer Wei Xiong for ISU
RH = Rika Hongo
KT = Keiji Tanaka
SM= Satoko Miyahara
YH= Yuzuru Hanyu

Q: How did you get into figure skating?

RH: My mother is a figure skating coach. I followed her to work when I was three years old, and I played around the rink. When I was five, I told her that I want to learn figure skating, and that’s how I started.

KT: There was a skating rink near my home, so at the beginning I went there just for fun. It was during my first grade in elementary school. Then I enjoyed it so much that gradually I started to take regular skating classes, and before I realized, I was already a member of the skating club.

SM: I started skating when I was four. I lived in the U.S. for two years and a half when my parents were studying there. There was a skating rink inside a shopping mall, when I went there, I tried to skate for the first time and I really enjoyed it, so I started to skate.

YH: It was my elder sister who started to skate first. At that time I wasn’t particularly into figure skating, but I was just following my sister and skating with her.

Q: When did you decide to dedicate yourself to this sport and be an athlete?

RH: I was inspired by Shizuka Arakawa’s victory at the 2006 Olympics, since then I started to dream about competing at the Olympics, and I started to train hard to be a skater.

After she won the Olympics, there was a parade in her hometown Sendai, and you were the kid who accompanied her in the parade car. Do you still remember that day?

Yes, I remember I was sitting next to her, and I saw the shining gold medal at a close distance. I thought that was so cool and I was inspired.

KT: After I joined the skating club, I think being an athlete just became something very natural to me, and I never thought about quitting because training was tough.

SM: I kept skating and naturally began real training after I came back to Japan. When I was in third grade in elementary school, I competed at my first international competition. Ever since then I realized I would become an athlete.

YH: For me, an athlete equals to an Olympian, an Olympic gold medalist. When I was around five-years-old, I already seriously thought about winning the gold medal at the Olympics. But what made me want the Olympic title strongly was the battle between Yagudin and Plushenko at 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.

Q: Did you already have the confidence that you were going to be a top skater in the world?

Tanaka: I still don’t think I am competitive on the international stage, but one thing that inspired me was when Yuzuru won the World Junior Championships. He is the same age as me, and the best among us. When he won the junior title, I thought it was really awesome, and I wanted to catch up with him. So I made up my mind and set my goal to be a competitive skater in the world. One year after, I won the silver medal at junior Worlds.

SM: I didn’t think about being a top skater at that time, but I strongly wanted to go to the Olympics.

YH: Yes! I remember I got the second place at my first ever competition since I started to skate, but soon I won my next competition. I was presented a trophy in that competition, and I lifted the trophy over my head, just trying to imitate what Plushenko and Yagudin always did. It was a small trophy like this size (he pointed to his beverage bottle), and I did it like this (he held up the bottle over his head). It was a small, domestic competition, I think I was five years old, or maybe first grade in elementary school.

Q: Being an athlete is tough, but is there anything even tougher that you hadn’t expected or imagined?

RH: All your time is occupied by skating, I train every day, and it is so difficult to find some time just to hang out with your friends. Also, I need to get up early in the morning, that’s also tough.

YH: The risk of injury is high, and there is no guarantee that the harder you train the better you become, so I think that’s really the difficult part. Also, I think this is unique in Japan, but figure skating is so popular here that I cannot go out easily, and there are paparazzi around, so this is something difficult to deal with too.

(Does training in Canada make things easier?)

Yes, I can get more of my own time in Canada.

Q: What’s your favorite element in figure skating and what gives you headache?

RH: I like the jumps the most. Among all types of jumps, I like toe the most, but I am not good at loop.

KT: I like doing footwork, especially when it fits the music, it feels really enjoyable. As for what I am not good at, compared to those best skaters in the world, I have a lot of work to do on my spins.

SM: I like all elements. But I am not good at twizzles, and I wish I could spin faster on flying camel spins.

Q: Could you share with us the stories or inspirations of your programs this season?

RH: My free skate this season is choreographed by Akiko Suzuki. I want to enhance my presentation, and I think I can learn a lot from her. Before she retired, we were skating in the same rink, and I was always amazed and inspired by her. It feels great that I can continue to learn from her now in this way.

KT: It is a new genre of music (“Federico Fellini Medley”) that I’ve never tried before, so it was really difficult at the beginning of the season, I just couldn’t catch the feeling of the program, and couldn’t show the right facial expression. When I made a mistake on the first few jumping passes, it felt very hard to concentrate on presentation, and hence couldn’t put the program together. But at the NHK Trophy, I did well with the first few jumps, so I carried the momentum to the rest of the program, kept the energy and paid attention to facial expressions. I finally felt I was able to perform this program well.

SM: Tom Dickson recommended the “Star Wars” music to me in the middle of last season, and we started to do the choreography right after the season ended. The music is something different from what I’ve skated to before, but I think it is so cool and I like it.

You are always shy off the ice, is it difficult to skate to something so “cool”?

Yes, I really need to pay a lot of attention to the movements and scale when I skate, and give much more strength than before.

YH: The music of my free skate was composed by a Japanese composer, if I go deep into the story behind the music, it was actually the opening song of 1998 Nagano Paralympics. My mom watched the Nagano Olympics and Paralympics, and then she wanted my elder sister to skate, so she took her to skating class. If you think about it, those Olympics were the starting point of my skating life, so I want to use this piece of music. Also, as I mentioned, it was composed by a Japanese composer, so I think I can continue to present something I’ve learned from “SEIMEI”.

The Olympics really is something special for you, isn’t it?

Yes. On one hand, when it comes to competing at a competition, like in Sochi, I treated it as a normal competition; but on the other hand, I am planning and preparing for the next Olympics, so I guess I have a special feeling for it. Of course, I want to win the gold medal again in Pyeongchang.

Your long program is called “Hope and Legacy”, and you talked about how skaters’ performances can remain as a legacy. Which performance of yours do you think is your legacy?

YH: It was my first novice national championships, which I won. I was very happy at that time, not only happy for the win, but also for my score. It was still under the 6.0 system, I watched competitions on TV a lot, so I knew only those very top skaters in the world could get over 5.5 points, but I got 5.2 for my presentation. I was so happy at that time, and my performance at that competition became my motivation of skating, and it still motivates me now.

Q: What’s your equity in Team Japan? For example, are you the one that laughs the most, or talks the most, or are you the one who likes to give advice and take care of rookies, or are you the one that doesn’t talk at all, etc.

RH: There are younger skaters coming up this season, but this is only my third year on the senior circuit and there are more experienced skaters than me, like Asada or Murakami, so I am the one who still tries to learn from the elders during competitions.

KT: I am the shy one and not good at talking. On the contrary, Yuzuru is very outgoing and really talks a lot, sometimes I cannot follow him.

YH: We are all teammates, but at the same time competitors. For example, I am at the same age with Ryuju Hino and Keiji Tanaka who also competed at NHK Trophy, we know each other since we were kids, we are really good friends off the ice, but on the ice, we are competitors.

Q: Yuzuru, Keiji just said you always talk so much that he sometimes cannot follow.

YH: I admit. I really talk a lot, but I am thankful that he is always willing to listen. Just like I said, we knew each other from long ago, so I feel like he can understand me.

Q: How about in the skating club? For Rika and Satoko, there are many younger girls in your rink, do you give them advice?

RH: I talk to them a lot, but we seldom talk about skating.

SM: I often practice with them, and I get stimulation from them, I enjoy skating with them. I don’t always do that, but sometimes I do give them advice. I also have things to learn from them, so I think it is a very good training environment.

Q: What do you like to do off the ice?

RH: I like sleeping and eating. I especially like ice cream, so whenever there is a limited edition or new flavor of ice cream, I will go get it and enjoy.

KT: I like watching movies. Recently I watch a lot of Japanese movies.

SM: I like reading books and sleeping, and I like cooking. I like something sweet, and I like Japanese food. I cook for my family when I have time.

Q: Yuzuru, you are taking university courses via e-school, right?

YH: Yes, but I am too busy training to keep up with my studies. Nevertheless my classes are very interesting. I am majoring in Human Science, it is very broad, and I study a lot about human, about computer science, etc. Recently I am really into Human Bioethics. I’ve thought a lot about “life” in my life so far, and I am also thinking about “life” when I perform “Hope and Legacy”, so studying Human Bioethics helps my skating. Given that I don’t really have much time, I try to take less courses, but study in depth and make every minute out of it count.

Q: One thing I have to ask Keiji, your name “Keiji” (which means “police” in Japanese) is so special. Who gave you the name?

KT: It was my father. He gave me this name because it is very unique, you can’t really find another person with the same name, and he wants me to be a person with strong sense of justice. He didn’t expect me to be a policeman, but I think this is really a good name, and I am glad that people can remember me by this name.

Prompt: It's Klaus birthday in NOLA and Rebekah secretly sent an invitation for Caroline, because the siblings have a secret bet going on about who's present gonna be the best. After 1000 what does one give to someone who can get whatever he wants :D

Kol is sipping a margarita, splayed out on one of the leather couches in their lounge room when she gets back from her shopping expedition in New Orleans.

The radio is on, playing one of those inane pop tunes that Kol for some reason seemed to love, and his foot is swaying lazily to the beat as he stares up at the fan whirring lazily on the ceiling above them.

“What on Earth are you doing?” She asks of Kol, whose eyes flick towards her, a self satisfied smile creeping across his face when he sees her.

“Celebrating.” Kol says with great relish, taking a sip of his margarita. “Can I offer you a drink, sister?”

“Knowing you you’ve probably spiked it with some sort of sleeping potion, so it’ll be a hard pass this time.” She replies with disdain, remembering the last time Elijah had accepted a drink from Kol, and had then promptly broken out in hives that had taken quite a few days to disappear, and only with the assistance of a witch that owed Elijah quite a few favours.

Kol had ended up with a dagger in his chest for a month before Elijah had deigned to make amends with him.

“God you’re all no fun.” Kol mumbles under his breath, sitting up on the couch and planting his booted feet on the floor. “And since you never asked what I was celebrating, I’m going to tell you anyway.”

“Of course you are.” She remarks dryly, tapping her foot against the floor, cursing the humidity that seemed to hang over New Orleans at this time of the year like an unpleasant shroud.

Already she can feel her hair sticking to the back of her neck, her clothes pressing to her skin unpleasantly. Maybe she could go for a swim a little later.

“Well, as you well know Bekah, Nik’s birthday is coming up. And I know that we all try and one up each other when it comes to buying him a gift. God knows why considering how many times he’s daggered us all… If anything he should be buying us presents to make up for it.” Kol is just thinking out loud now, and she can’t help but sigh, massaging her temples.

In fact, Nik had brought her plenty of gifts to make up for the whole daggering thing, knowing that she was materialistic at heart and was far more likely to respond positively to that than murmured platitudes and constant apologies.

She wouldn’t give up her designer wardrobe, villa in Tuscany, and private island for anything.

“Get to the point.” She snarls as Kol continues to mumble under his breath.

“Fine. I just want to tell you and Elijah that you shouldn’t bother trying this year, because I’ve got him the present to end all presents. The perfect gift.”

“You do?” She asks incredulously, because Kol’s idea of a perfect gift is usually a stripper or a gift voucher to some obscure store.

“I do.” Kol says with another smug smile. “So just don’t even go there this year Bekah. You’re not going to beat me!”

With that, Kol drains the rest of his margarita, falling back to lie on the couch once more.

Justin Bieber starts playing on the radio, and as she marches out of the room to escape the stupidity of the song, an idea begins to form in her mind.

Kol wasn’t going to know what hit him.

“I could get used to this.” Caroline Forbes remarks with a laugh, reclining on the pure white sand as the sun beats fiercely down on her skin.

“I’m not sure about the heat.” Enzo has propped himself up on her elbow next to her, Ray Bans covering most of his features as he takes in the crystalline blue water. “Although it is a beautiful corner of the world.”

She’d been dying to come to Australia for some time now, and she and Enzo had spent the last few months wandering the massive island continent. As she very quickly discovered, there was so much more to Australia than the cosmopolitan city of Sydney.

They went dune boarding at Port Stephens, a little coastal town three hours north east of the capital of NSW. They spent a week on the Gold Coast, checking out the bars and clubs that peppered the famous city.

They spent another week on a cattle ranch in the far flung part of Queensland that no one else ever seemed to go to, made friends with the locals as they had to revert back to animal blood momentarily.

The Northern Territory was amazing, as had been Western Australia. The Barossa Valley had been a favourite, rich wine country with vineyards stretching as far as the eye could see.

Enzo had loved Melbourne, loved the coffee culture and all the hip little laneway bars that were only discovered if you stumbled across them by accident. Someone had suggested the Whitsundays for their next destination, and after looking at some pictures online she and Enzo had very quickly booked one of the resorts there.

The past few days had been spent snorkelling on the Great Barrier reef, reclining on the deck of the sailboat they had hired, swimming in clear blue waters, and sampling some of the amazing food at the various restaurants dotted around the island.

She thanked her lucky stars that she technically couldn’t put on weight now that she was dead and all, so had absolutely no guilt about helping herself to a second or third plate of food at dinner time, washing it down with some wine.

“That it is.” She agrees quietly with Enzo, sipping at her bottle of water, watching clouds scud across the cornflower blue sky.

Someone whistles at them from the shore line, and she raises her hand in acknowledgement towards the skipper of their boat, sitting up and beginning to gather her belongings, shoving them back into the canvas beach bag she carried with her.

She dusts the sane off her as she and Enzo make their way over to the boat, ankle deep in the cool water before they’re being handed up onto the deck.

When she gets back to their room, she’s surprised to see an envelope addressed to her. She hadn’t given anyone an address while she’d been travelling, and so she approaches the envelope with a healthy dose of caution.

Picking it up between two fingers, she gingerly breaks the wax seal on the back, pulling out the parchment within and unfolding it quickly.

Caroline,

My brother is celebrating his birthday this year. Although I’m not particularly eager to see you anytime soon, I know that Nik would like it. Details are within.

Rebekah

She can’t help but cover her mouth, snorting with laughter as she hands the folded up piece of paper to Enzo to read.

“Rather direct, isn’t she?”

“Yes, that always has been her m.o.” She replies with another soft laugh, eyes scanning the contents of the invitation before tossing it onto the bed.

“So are you going to go?” Enzo questions curiously, leaning over to read the invitation as well.

“I don’t know. Maybe?” She answers it like a question, becuase to be honest she’s still not half sure herself.

Enzo raises an eyebrow at that.

“Maybe? That’s a complete 180 from last year when it was a flat out no. Could it be that your feelings towards the big bad hybrid have changed?”

She hits Enzo on the arm good naturedly.

“It’s not like that. It’ll just be… good to see him.” She trails off lamely, knowing that it’s a pathetic excuse if ever she’s heard one.

To be honest, she’d been thinking about Klaus a lot more lately. She hadn’t seen him in almost a decade, the last time being quite a memorable weekend they’d spent together in Tuscany, when they hadn’t done much more than have sex and drink wine from teh surrounding vineyards.

Most of the weekend had been spent in bed, Klaus determined to show her just how good they were with each other, which they were. Klaus continued to be the best sex of her lfie, and if the infuriating smile that he wore on his face every time he brought her to climax was anything to go by, he knew it as well.

But they both had other priorities. She was content to continue her nomadic lifestyle, discovering some of the far flung and forgotten corners of the world, Enzo in tow more often than not.

Klaus had settled into his life in New Orleans, ruling the city with an iron fist, his siblings still with him.

She’d never been. Setting foot into his city would be sending a message, that she was willing to entertain the idea of a forever with him. And she hadn’t been ready for that yet. But now…

“I can see that your mind has already been made up.” Enzo replies with a slow smile. “Are you sure?”

She just takes a deep breath, squaring her shoulders.

“I’m going to need a dress.”

The party below them is in full swing, members of the supernatural community mingling in the courtyard below them.

Kol leans on the balcony beside her, hair swept artfully away from his forehead, tuxedo clinging to the firm lines of his body. He sips at his drink, glancing at her for a moment.

“Did you even try to get him something this year?” He asks with a chuckle. “You’ve been surprisingly tight lipped this year sister.”

She smooths down the front of her black party dress, raising her own glass to her lips as she takes a drink.

“I tried something different this year. Apparently it didn’t work out.” She notes with a shrug, downing the rest of her drink and setting the now empty glass on the tray of a passing waiter.

Kol stares at her for a long moment, trying to figure out the meaning behind her words.

“Shame.” He pronounces with a shrug. “You’re usually much better at this. Did you order something online and it didnt’ arrive on time or something?”

She just smiles to herself, phone buzzing in her hand.

“Something like that.”

And then she thumbs into the message, reading the two words displayed across her screen.

She’s here.

The doorman of course, had been under strict instructions to keep an eye out for Caroline. He’d been provided with a picture of the baby vampire, one from her Mystic Falls days where she’d been polished and primped and wearing a ballgown.

All the same, Caroline Forbes was rather hard to miss, even dressed in plain clothes with her hair in disarray. She would know because she’d seen the girl in such a state during one memorable run in at the MIkaelson mansion in Mystic Falls.

It hadn’t taken a genius to know exactly why Caroline was doing the walk of shame at such an infernal hour of the morning. The younger girl had blushed, hair falling into her face as she had whispered a soft goodbye before letting herself out into the weak early morning light.

She had mentioned this as an aside to Kol, who had promptly teased Nik about it. Nik had snapped his neck and they hadn’t mentioned it since.

“Am I boring you?” Kol’s voice abruptly interrupts her train of thought, and she locks her phone, eyes flicking up towards her brother, who’s staring at her like she’s just grown a second head. “Where did you go just now?”

She just draws herself up to her full height, snagging another flute of champagne.

“Don’t count your chickens before they hatch brother.”

The doorman is staring at her strangely. She can’t imagine why, because she most certainly does not have lipstick on her teeth (she checked). The navy blue party dress that she’s wearing makes her tanned legs look a mile long, and accentuates the curves of her body.

Her hair, which she had spent a ridiculous amount of time on, was twisted into an elegant up do, and she was wearing a necklace that Klaus had gifted to her during their time in Tuscany.

The short of it was, she looked a million bucks.

“Caroline Forbes.” A voice drawls as she steps into the entrance of the courtyard.

Rebekah Mikaelson hasn’t changed a bit, that bored expression on her face ever present. She’s wearing a killer pair of Manolos and she can’t help but eye off the striking shoes with a bit of jealousy.

“Rebekah.” She finally answers, swallowing around the lump in her throat as Rebekah just smiles, pressing a drink into her hand.

“I didn’t think you were going to come.” Rebekah sips at her own drink as she turns, moving more towards the crowd of people, a few of whom eye them off with barely concealed curiosity. “You know, since I didn’t receive your RSVP or anything like that.”

“Sorry.” She replies to the older vampire, smoothing a hand over her hair. “I was undecided until quite recently. I did send word but apparently you didn’t get the message in time.”

“No matter.” Rebekah waves a hand dismissively. “You’re here now and that’s all that matters.”

Rebekah tilts her gaze upwards towards the balcony, and she follows the line of the Original’s gaze. Kol Mikaelson has a drink in her hand, and is gaping at her with his mouth hanging open rather unattractively.

Within split seconds his gaze lands on Rebekah, eyes narrowing as he raises his drink towards his sister in a toast for some reason.

“What was that about?” She asks Rebekah, who lifts one shoulder in an elegant shrug as the crowd clears momentarily and she spots Klaus from across the room.

He looks entirely at ease in this particular setting, his tuxedo clinging sharply to the lines of his broad shoulders, pants tailored to within an inch of their life. He’s got his head thrown back in laughter as he talks to another man, drink in hand and looking like he doesn’t have a care in the world.

“What on earth has he done to his hair?” She hisses towards Rebekah in horror. “It looks atrocious.”

She sees Klaus stiffen at that, and curses his superior Hybrid hearing as his gaze suddenly lands on her, eyes dark.

It’s perhaps the first time that she’s seen him truly caught off guard, and she can’t help but raise her glass to her lips, not realising just how much liquid courage she’d need to fortify herself with for this particular encounter.

The crowd seems to part before Klaus as he moves towards her, Rebekah giving her a gentle nudge, encouraging her to meet him halfway.

If that wasn’t a metaphor for their relationship, she didn’t know what was.

Klaus stops before her, gaze indecipherable as he reaches out, traces a gentle hand along her cheekbone.

The weight of the curious gazes around her is heavy, and she can’t help but lean into his touch as he bends, taking her hand in his, pressing a gentle kiss to it.

He straightens, and his smile is like the sun.

“Hello Caroline.”

It feels strange, being on Klaus’ arm. For a moment, she can’t help but think that Klaus is showing her off, demonstrating his power.

Until he begins introducing her to people, a hand resting dangerously on her lower back, thumb rubbing circles into where her dress does not cover up the skin of her back.

He seems content to take a backseat in their conversation, instead observing silently as she exchanges greetings with various witches and werewolves and vampires.

She sips at her drink as someone else comes to greet Klaus, and it takes a moment for her to realise why this time is so different. Klaus isn’t treating her like an object. He never has, a byproduct of his thousand or so years of existence.

No. Klaus is treating her like an equal, and the thought of that sends a thrill down her spine. So when there’s a break in the conversation she twines an arm around his waist, pressing a quick kiss to his neck.

In response Klaus pulls her closer to him but doesn’t comment, carrying on his conversation effortlessly.

Hours later as the guests begin to filter out into the street, Klaus pulls her in close to her chest.

“What are you doing here Caroline?” He asks in a low voice, tone dangerous. “Not that I’m not happy to see you, of course I am.”

She meets his gaze confidently, hand drifting up his chest to fix the lapel of his dinner jacket.

“I’m here for you Klaus.” She tells him with a smile. “You remember that weekend in Tuscany, when you let me go without a word of protest?”

Klaus’ lips curl into a smirk.

“How could I forget Tuscany?”

“You didn’t push me. And I was grateful for that, even though I did know that you wouldn’t wait around forever for me. And when you kept your distance in the following years, I was grateful. But I also missed not having you around.”

Her eyes drop to the crisp lines of his shirt as her hands drift down towards his waist. His breath is hot against her cheek, and he’s gone unnaturally still as he waits to hear the next words out of her mouth.

“You offered me forever and I wasn’t ready then. But I am now.” She says softly, hands sliding up his chest, twining around his neck as his gaze darkens, mouth hanging open in surprise. “If you’ll still have me of course.

Klaus’ lips against hers is the only answer he provides, the only answer she needs. Klaus kisses her like he’s a starving man, like he’s been deprived of something for so long.

She’s scarcely less eager to return his embrace, missing the feeling of him, the familiar smell of him.

She doesn’t protest when Klaus picks her up in his arms, using his vamp speed to get the from the courtyard to what is undoubtedly his bedroom.

He’s got her pressed up against the closed door before she can even think about it, lips hot against the skin of her neck as he nips at her with a content sigh.

His jacket drops to the floor, and she helps him unbutton his shirt, no doubt in her mind as to the direction that this is heading.

Her hands roam over the skin of his chest, catalouging all the new scars that he’s acquired since she saw him last, hand pausing over a particularly nasty looking scar, no doubt caused by some sort of stabbing.

“You’ll have to tell me that story later.” She murmurs, tipping a finger under his chin and kissing him gently.

“Later.” Klaus agrees in a low voice, hands pausing at the seams of her dress.

She’s reversed their positions in an instant, Klaus pressed up against the door with a surprised look on his face.

“Don’t you dare rip this dress.” She hisses at him, knowing his proclivity for destroying her clothes when he’s in this sort of mood. “I like this one.”

His low chuckle curls around her, a warm feeling in the bottom of her stomach as he turns her gently by the shoulders, a hot open mouthed kiss pressed to the side of her neck.

His hands on the zipper are like fire as he pulls it down slowly, fingers brushing over the exposed skin of her back as he pushes the dress from her shoulders.

It pools at her feet, and she hears his breath hitch in his throat as he runs a gentle hand down her back.

“I’ve missed this.” Klaus murmurs to her, walking her backwards towards his bed, both of them kicking off their shoes, Klaus shucking his socks as they go.

He grips her by the hips, easily lifting her up and tossing her onto the mattress, a giggle escaping her lips as Klaus’s gaze darkens.

“Come here.” She beckons to him as Klaus crawls between her knees, covering her body with his as he takes her into his arms.

The feeling is unfamiliar and familiar all at once, Klaus’ erection pressing into her core as she tangles her lips with his.

A soft moan escapes her as Klaus’ lips scorch a hot trail down her throat, face nuzzling between the valley of her breasts, stubble scratching against her sensitive skin.

“Pants off.” She orders after a momentary pause, Klaus chuckling as he does her bidding.

“A little eager aren’t we?” He asks her with an infuriating smile as he hooks long fingers into the waistband of her panties.

“We’ve got ten years to make up for.” She just breathes, watching as his face softens, hand coming up to cup her cheek delicately as he lines up his body with hers, cock nudging gently at her entrance.

She can’t help but gasp at the feeling, heel nudging at his arse as he smiles down at her.

“We’ve got all the time in the world sweetheart.” He replies before pushing into her heat with one, smooth stroke.

She’s missed this, the feeling of being filled by him, and her eyes roll back into her head at just how good it is, at how good he is.

Klaus had learnt to read her body with an almost eerie sixth sense, and he puts all of his learned knowledge into practice as he sets a rhythm that has her unable to do much more than gasp and hold on for the ride.

Klaus rolls suddenly, reversing their positions as she sways above him, a little startled. Klaus just smiles, still hard inside her as he guides her arms around his broad shoulders, hands hot around her waist as he helps to lift her, guide her up and down.

She’s always loved this position with him, loved the power and the look of awe that always creeped across his face when he saw her like this.

She bends down to kiss him, rolling her hips in a gentle rhythm against his. Klaus’ hand traces down the front of her body, thumb pinpointing her clit with an unerring accuracy.

She shudders a little when he presses there, rhythm broken momentarily as she opens her mouth in a silent moan.

She can feel the tell tale build in her core, the ache becoming almost unbearable as she increases her rhythm, anchoring her hands on his shoulders as he begins to thrust up into her with a look of concentration on his face.

She falls apart in his arms, Klaus catching her, turning and pressing her down into the mattress as he continues to drive into her, the pleasure edging into pain at the sensitivity.

Klaus knows this though, gentles the movement of his hips until it curls low in her belly once more, building impossibly fast to her peak.

They come together this time, her name on his lips as he buries his face into her neck, feels the heat of him inside her.

She runs a hand through his sweat dampened hair, breathing slowly returning to normal as he pulls out and heads for the bathroom, returning in the next few moments with a damp cloth to wipe themselves down with.

When he’s done he pulls her into the circle of his arms, a content exhale as he props one arm under his head, staring up at the ceiling.

They don’t have to say much. They never do in moments like this. But she feels like she has to say this.

“I love you.” She whispers into the skin of his chest, Klaus stiffening momentarily around her before he’s pressing a gentle kiss to the back of her hand, eyes brimming with emotion.

He doesn’t say it back but that’s okay. She knows that he’s felt this way about her for a long time, and she’s not going to get hung up on her insecurities like she used to when it came to him.

The moment is perfect, and she wouldn’t change it for the world.

“I hope you’ve got space in your wardrobe for all my clothes.” She voices out loud suddenly, propping herself up on her elbow to face him.

Klaus’ burst of startled laughter is like music to her hears.

On the lower levels of the house, Rebekah Mikaelson pours herself a victory drink, Kol glowering on the lounge opposite her as the fire crackles merrily away in the hearth.

“Do you concede?” She asks of Kol, who just glares at her, cracking his knuckles a little threateningly.

“I concede.”

It became a habit, checking your phone every few minutes to see if there was a text, if there was a missed call. But every time, there would be nothing. Then that same old bitter feeling settled in your stomach, and it became harder and harder to focus on the essay you were writing. Eventually, you gave up and sat back, staring at the paper but not quite seeing it.

It was the day of the competition: the day you’d been waiting for for months, but it wasn’t going quite how you’d imagined it back then. Instead of getting ready excitedly with Jungkook, Hoseok and Yoongi, you were sat in your room tearing your hair out at the memory of Taehyung walking away from you with a betrayed look in his eyes. You’d told Jungkook what had happened, and how Taehyung’s parting words and the lack of communication confirmed that he’d dropped out of the dance, and Jungkook didn’t seem at all surprised.

“He can sulk for a long time,” he had explained, wincing as he walked into his kitchen, his ankle still causing him pain. “After so many years of knowing him, hasn’t he ever done that before?”

You had said he hadn’t, because when you fought, it never lasted long. Over the years, you’d relied on his forgiving nature, but this time was different. He knew how much this dance meant to you and Jungkook, so if he was willing to let it all fall through, he was seriously hurt. You didn’t blame him.

Yoongi had texted you that morning, asking whether Taehyung had given in and if you would be performing, and your eyes stung slightly as you typed out a simple no. You hadn’t forgiven yourself for what happened, so you didn’t expect Taehyung to either. For the past couple of nights, you’d eaten your way through several tubs of ice cream in front of the TV, feeling very sorry for yourself. Your housemates crept around you, not disturbing your binge and letting you eat your feelings away. However, on the day of the competition, it didn’t seem to be working, so you sat down to get some work done. Which also wasn’t working.

You had no energy left in you to win Taehyung round. Deep down, you knew keeping that secret from him would hurt in the long run, but you didn’t realise how much it would hurt. Everything seemed so futile, and it left you feeling empty. You had to force yourself to get out of bed, to eat, to take a shower, but your mind never once strayed from Taehyung.

As you stared out of your window at the cloudless sky, your phone began vibrating angrily against the wooden desk. It flashed up with a name, and your heart sunk when you realised it wasn’t Taehyung. It was your mother.

“Hey,” you answered, switching to English.

Y/N! You haven’t called recently, is everything okay?” came her chirpy yet slightly worried voice.

“I’m fine,” you swallowed, eyeing the bin that was full of empty ice cream tubs. “How’s home? Did you get the money I sent you?”

“I did, thank you. It’s all been sorted with the rent, so don’t you worry about that. You’ve done us a massive favour. Thank you, Y/N, honestly. But I was mainly calling about something else. I wanted to ask you about Taehyung…”

You took in a deep breath, readying yourself for whatever idea she’d come up with. Usually she’d ask you to invite him to some family outing that she’d spontaneously planned, whether it be a meal at a restaurant or a shopping trip in town. Excuses popped into your head to get out of asking Taehyung without arousing suspicion as your mother continued talking.

“It was quite strange. I was making a quick trip to the market to pick up some groceries, and I could’ve sworn I saw Taehyung walk past. So I called out his name, just to be sure, and he turned and looked around. He didn’t see me, but it meant I could see his face and it was definitely him. Has something happened in his family? Surely he’s missing classes by coming home.”

“What?” you asked flatly, standing up suddenly and sending your chair clattering to the floor. The door to Yeona and Mijung’s room opposite you opened, but you ignored it. “He’s in Daegu?”

“I saw his mum, but of course, I didn’t want to be insensitive so I just asked if Taehyung had some time off. She said he hadn’t, and I didn’t push her any further than that. Plus, I don’t speak enough Korean to ask anything else. Tae looked really sad, too, bless him.”

“He’s in Daegu,” you repeated hollowly, just as your bedroom door opened to reveal a slightly annoyed Yeona.

“Can you keep-”

“I’ve got to go,” you said down the phone, cutting off Yeona’s attempt at a scolding.

Not looking her in the eye, you brushed past Yeona as you hurried towards the front door, your mind in turmoil. Was it really that bad that Taehyung had to go home? Or was it something else? You had no idea, but you were certain that either Jin, Namjoon or Jungkook did.

Really, all you needed to do was send a text to Taehyung’s housemates, but you didn’t want to stick around to be told off by Yeona, and you weren’t doing anything else productive, so you began pacing it towards Taehyung’s house in the hot spring morning.

Taehyung’s house was loud with noise when you arrived, as they were all singing along to a song playing on Jungkook’s phone. Jimin standing in the mix, which took you aback slightly as he danced next to Jungkook and sang his heart out.

“Jimin,” you said bluntly, catching his attention. His face split into a grin as he ruffled his silver hair, but you couldn’t understand why he was there and Taehyung wasn’t, so your smile back was weak. “Where’s Taehyung?” you asked him.

Jimin just shrugged, so you turned the question onto the other boys. Jungkook paused the music so you could be heard properly, resulting in a few grumbles from the others. After repeating yourself, however, you were met with silence.

“Taehyung? I haven’t seen him since yesterday,” said Jin finally, beginning to frown.

“Nor me,” added Namjoon. “Although I heard him bashing around in his room for a bit, but nothing else. We thought he was with you.”

Jungkook’s eyes opened wide as he realised something was up. It was such an innocent look that you understood why he got away with annoying Namjoon so often.

“Taehyung’s gone home,” you explained sadly, hoping against all hopes that you weren’t the sole reason for his unexplained departure. “He found out that I knew about Yeji.”

“Knew what about Yeji?” asked Jin quizzically, the same confused expression on his face as Namjoon. “Wait, is this to do with the thing that you kept from him? When he told you he liked you before you met us in the park?”

Slowly and hesitatingly, you explained the whole situation, with the help of Jungkook and Jimin. You watched as Namjoon and Jin’s faces turned from confused to angry to sorrowfully understanding as you talked, your burdens lifting off your chest as you did so. It was shameful describing what you did, especially to your friends who had always been so kind and considerate . Jungkook and Jimin also looked embarrassed, as they too had kept the same thing from Taehyung, but there was no doubt in your mind it was your responsibility. After all, you were supposed to be his best friend.

“… and now because of that, Taehyung’s gone back to Daegu and I can’t compete in the dance competition,” you finished, looking around at the others and waiting for them to say ‘it’s your own fault’ or ‘what’s done is done’. Because it was true: there was nothing else you could do.

Strangely, however, Namjoon seemed to believe differently. “Well, you need to go bring him back for the competition.”

You just blinked several times, not quite expecting that response. “I need to do what?”

“I’m not seeing all your hard work go down the drain, just because of some silly misunderstanding,” declared Namjoon. “I understand why Taehyung was mad, but it’s plain unfair to ruin this for you. I say drive down to Daegu, apologise, and tell him to get his ass back to Seoul.”

Laughing at the absurdness of it all, you shook your head. “If he’s upset enough to go home and miss classes, then he’s not going to come back if I simply say sorry. Plus, I can’t drive.”

“Jin does.”

“It’s broken down,” mumbled Jin, his face downcast. “Why do you think I’ve been looking after Jungkook? I’m not doing this out of kindness, you know.”

“How about… train!” Namjoon called out triumphantly.

Again, you shook your head. “Too expensive. I appreciate the thought, I really do, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. I was just coming to check if there was another reason that he might’ve left, but I guess not. I’ll see you guys later.”

Walking towards the front door, you almost made it to the handle before a hand on your shoulder pulled you back. Wheeling around, you saw Namjoon standing right behind you, his dark eyes pitiful as he smiled softly.

“Don’t give up, okay?”

Looking down at your shoes, you tried not to let your face go red. “Namjoon, it’s too late. I’m tired of chasing him.”

He just chuckled lightly, giving your shoulder a firm squeeze before letting go and walking away backwards. “It’s never too late to fight for something,” he said, turning around and leaving you standing there, unsure and uncertain as to what to do next.

Going back to your house, you walked into the main sitting area and almost burst into tears then and there. Instead, you gulped heavily to rid the stone from your throat and sank down onto one of the sofas, cuddling a cushion in your lap. How could you fight for a lost cause?

“Y/N! It’s your turn to do the-” Jiwon paused as she saw your stricken face, not knowing how to react. You didn’t bother looking in her direction, as your mind was elsewhere and you couldn’t be bothered to bring it back. Instead, you let her slowly remove her body from her bedroom and tentatively move towards you, her slippers dragging on the wooden floor.

“Is everything okay?” she asked quietly in a high-pitched tone.

When you didn’t respond, she disappeared for a minute, but returned with reinforcements. Before you knew what was happening, all three girls were sitting around you, eyebrows upturned in worry.

“You’ve been acting really weird recently,” commented Mijung bluntly, her ponytails jiggling about furiously as she fidgeted about next to you. “What’s the matter?”

That’s all it took for you to completely spill everything. For so long, you’d been keeping things to yourself and suffering quietly, but you were on a roll. For the second time that day, you told your secrets. You told them all about Taehyung, about how you fell in love over the years, about the dance competition, and all the way up to how you messed up by keeping too many secrets. It felt wrong at first, as your housemates were the last people you thought you’d tell about anything, but eventually you were glad you did. Mijung wrapped her arms around your shoulders while Yeona and Jiwon mothered you with blankets, as well as making sympathetic noises and offering their support.

“We had no idea,” muttered Yeona. She seemed genuinely distressed, which contradicted her usual grumpy aura. Although you had been told it was because she worked so hard, your opinion of the older girl never changed until that moment.

“So, you fancy Taehyung, and he was going to dance with you, but he’s gone back to Daegu because you upset him,” stated Mijung, summarising your points, “and you can’t fetch him and bring him back to Seoul because you can’t drive. Right?”

“Why don’t you text him?” asked Jiwon.

“He’s ignoring them. I don’t think it’s something you can sort out over text, anyway,” you sniffled.

“I can drive.”

Your hanging head lifted to look at Jiwon, mouth falling open slightly.

“I was in a similar situation with my boyfriend,” she explained, fiddling with the corner of a cushion. “I kept secrets because I was scared he would judge me if he found out. It almost ruined things completely.”

“You’d be willing to drive down to Daegu for me?” you spluttered incredulously.

“This will be so fun!” squealed Mijung, clapping her hands. “Road trip!” Standing up, she hurried to her room, but Yeona and Jiwon didn’t question it. You wondered if they ever bothered questioning Mijung’s actions.

“But you… don’t like me?”

“Nonsense,” Yeona laughed loudly. “Sure, you’re noisy, but you’re not so bad. Us housemates have got to stick together, right? And if Y/N’s in a time of need, then it’s our duty to help out.”

“It’s a long drive,” you argued, not quite believing your luck.

“How long will it take to drive?” Yeona asked, biting her lip in anticipation.

“About three hours,” you responded, quickly glancing at Jiwon to see if she was frowning or not. Luckily, she nodded, and internally you cheered.

This was really happening, you thought to yourself. At the start of the year, you never would’ve thought that your housemates were willing to make an impromptu road trip to the other side of the country, just so you could participate in a dance competition. Scratch that, you wouldn’t have even thought that would ever happen an hour ago.

“We’ve got to plan this out,” instructed Yeona, immediately taking charge. “If we leave now, we’ll make it by mid-afternoon, leaving Y/N… not very long to win round Taehyung. By the time we get back to Seoul, the show would just be starting, if Y/N’s quick.”

“Sounds good to me!” cheered Mijung, coming back from her room with a crate of food. “I’ve got the provisions.”

“How…” began Jiwon, trailing off as she stared at the pile of snacks and drink cans that Mijung was struggling to carry, her small frame leaning backwards slightly to support the mound of food. Turning back to Yeona, she added, “We’ll be cutting it fine, won’t we?”

Yeona nodded. “Y/N, you’re going to have to be quick. Jiwon, you need to push the speed limits where you can, because if you’re late for shows like this, they don’t let you perform at all. They’re really strict on schedules.”

Adrenaline filled your body as you realised what you were about to do. Could you make it? The excitement pumped in your blood at the thought of dancing with Taehyung on stage, but it was a distant dream. If you didn’t have long to talk, you might not be able to convince him at all, and you didn’t want to waste people’s time by driving down to Daegu for nothing. But you wanted nothing more than to make Jungkook proud. After messing with his emotions for so long, it was the least you could do for him.

The girls began packing up the car while Yeona gave out strict orders on directions if there was traffic. Your heart swelled at the sight, knowing they were going out of their way to help you. It was strange how their personalities began to show, too. For so long, you’d assumed that both Jiwon and Yeona were crabby and snarky, and Mijung was slightly crazy, but you were pleasantly surprised to find out differently. Jiwon was slightly nervous, but seemed extremely intelligent, Yeona was a natural leader, as she was calm and in control, and Mijung was a devotee for food and seemed to have a positive outlook on absolutely everything. Your spirits were lifting by the second, knowing that your housemates weren’t completely heartless, and that you might still have a shot at the competition. And a shot at fixing things with Taehyung.

This might solve everything, or could be a complete disaster.

And you hoped and prayed it was the first.

An hour later, you were driving down the highway, Yeona sorting out timings and Mijung with you in the back asking you endless questions about Taehyung. The car was a mess already, with sweet wrappers everywhere and a strong smell of vanilla wafting through the air, despite the air con being on full blast. There was also a sticky residue near your feet, which you believed was Mijung’s fault, as during a two minute pit stop her drink went from full to almost empty, but she denied the accusations. Despite the litter crunching under your shoes, it was quite comfortable sinking back into the chair and letting your head rest against the cool glass of the window.

“Basically, you both like each other, and neither of you knew for years?” she asked, sucking on a lollipop that turned her lips blue.

“He was subtle about it,” you explained. “It was only when my friend pointed it out, I realised. I don’t know, I guess I just thought he was being friendly.”

“I wish you’d told us sooner. I would’ve immediately told you he was flirting. I have a romantic eye” said Mijung proudly.

You shuffled in your seat uncomfortably. It wasn’t the fact that you didn’t want to become friends, but more because of the rudeness and constant scolding you received had put you off. Although they were never your dream housemates, and they were nothing compared to what Taehyung had, but they were helping you do something that was completely insane, and you were eternally grateful.

Eventually, a couple of hours later, the buildings started becoming familiar as you reached the outskirts of Daegu, and you began directing Jiwon towards your house. You passed fields and small farms, all of which brought you nostalgia of the times where everything was so much simpler. A time when there was no heartbreak, no confusion, no secrets. High school was extremely stressful, as you were working well into the night just to get a good grade, so even though you’d never go back, you still missed how your life was back then.

“What are you going to say to him?” Mijung asked softly, as if she knew you were growing more and more nervous as you drew closer.

You shrugged, keeping your eyes out of the window and watching the trees and bushes flash by. “I guess sorry would be a start.”

“Don’t panic,” she reassured. “If he really loves you, he’ll let you in.”

Something told you she wasn’t talking literally.
