Harry’s POV

All day and all night I was frustrated. (Y/N) and I had gone to a friend’s wedding yesterday and all night she teased me. From doing simple, innocent things she knows gets me going to running her hand up my thigh under the table. I couldn’t wait to get her home and of course, right when we got home, her ass fell asleep. I knew she had done it on purpose as well. I was going to get her back. I was 100% going to punish her for her actions.

The next day, while she was at work, I decided to go out and get some vibrating panties for her. Tonight we had reservations with a different group of friends and I definitely was going to take advantage of that.

The night had come and (Y/N) was getting ready. I was already dressed up and ready to go but she wasn’t done yet. I walked into the bathroom with the bag in my hand. She sat on her vanity in front of her mirror, putting on her makeup.

“Hey, I bought you a little something to wear under that dress tonight.” I smirked at her, nodding towards her black, wrapped dress she had on.

“You did?” she giggled at me.

“Yeah.” I nodded, handing her the bag.

I’ve been asked to talk about criticisms of Kylo Ren’s character with regards to the current political climate.

We haven’t even seen the movie yet, so my answer’s simple for now - the series is a heightened fairy tale aimed at 12-year-olds, full of adventure and hope. Everything about it is an extreme exaggeration of real life. With this exaggeration, it becomes metaphorical and universal, able to be read and felt on many different levels.

When Luke held Vader in his arms in RotJ, I don’t think the point was ‘Forgive Abusive Fascist Dictator-Patriarchs,’ I think it was much more nuanced and ephemeral than that, and it’s universality stirred strong reactions in a lot of people.

Adam Driver has been talking this whole time about how the story interests him primarily because it’s a story about extremism causing people to dehumanize each other, to the point of being willing to kill. If this is a story about how extremists might lay down their swords and become reconciled with each other on a human level… I don’t think that story is an inherently bad fairy tale for children at this time.

These movies have always been heightened fairy tales about human compassion and reconciliation where none was thought possible. They are hopeful, and kind of simple. So in that sense, they cannot fulfill all expectations for all people.

some self-care/mental health tips for the upcoming school year

with school coming soon or already starting for some people i figured i’d share some of my tips for a healthier lifestyle. i know in the past i’ve struggled so much with being good to myself once school starts, both mentally, emotionally, and physically!

keep a clean room

i know how hard this is. i’m absolutely awful at it, even in the summer but it really makes the biggest difference. coming home to a mess when your life is already stressful and messy enough just makes things worse. i know when i have a clean space i’m way more productive and at peace with my situation.

take a break from social media

just doing this every once in awhile makes the hugest difference. social media is a wonderful world but it’s easy to get caught up in how everyone is doing things without you or having more fun or how someone’s prettier or whatever. it’s not worth it. i’ve learned that just deleting the apps for even a few hours can make my mental state 10x better. it’s important to realize that while people are out doing things all the time, you can never be as fun as all the 162 people you follow combined.

don’t be afraid to invite people out

one of the biggest things i struggle with is being social, simply because i overthink inviting people to do things with me too much and just wait to be invited by someone else instead. remember that even if someone says they can’t do something, it’s not the end of the world. at least you opened up a possibility!!! by being someone who invites others to do things, people will feel more appreciated and like you actually want to hang out with them! but also always save time for yourself as well!

create a self-care routine with motivation

by giving yourself some type of reward to wash your face, brush your teeth and shower, such as only watching your favorite tv show afterwards, it will feel a bit easier to accomplish the tasks that seem simple but can be terribly hard, especially if you suffer from depression. i’ve learned that combining things into one task also makes it easier, such as once you get in the shower, do everything. wash your face, brush your teeth, shave, all in the shower. it makes self-care so much easier.

get outside, stay out of bed

laying in bed is the best thing ever, i know, but it can be so easy to get in there and never get out. this is my biggest bad habit. i feel more productive even just sitting on the couch. my bed is like a black hole of lost motivation. go outside for twenty minutes a day if you can. sunlight makes things a little better and staying inside all day does nothing for you.

do one thing that scares you everyday, big or small.

i’m someone who has struggled with social anxiety for years now, but i’m slowly getting better because i’m making a conscious (and very terrifying effort) everyday. this won’t work for everyone, i know, but it’s helped me a little bit. i try to challenge myself everyday to do one thing that scares me, whether it’s asking someone to do something after school or agreeing to get coffee with a friend you’re not super close to yet, or even just making conversation with someone next to me in class. don’t push yourself too far but don’t make zero effort either.

cut the negative language/mindset

anytime you have a negative thought find a reverse positive. even saying “i’m not happy with how my hair looks but my ass looks great in these jeans” is better than saying “i look awful today”. stop the constant internal bullying! think of it this way, if your best friend said the things you say to yourself, how would you feel? you’re your own best friend, so cut the shit! compliment yourself like you do your best friend. complimenting myself and finding things i find beautiful on my own body even once a day has increased my confidence exponentially. a negative language towards yourself leads to a negative mindset.

find someone who motivates you

if you need motivation to work out, study, anything, find a buddy. having someone to do things with and hold you accountable makes a world of difference. this summer i got together with a friend and made a deal that we would work out 2-3 times a week. it worked so much better than if i had just made that goal for myself because she was always there to text me to ask to workout when we needed to but i lacked the desire. and i did the same for her. now we actually both got a job at a gym together this fall and are working out consistently because we have that mutual  accountability with each other! plus just having someone you enjoy seeing makes doing the hard task more fun!

accept your individuality

you don’t need to look like society’s ideal of beautiful. there’s millions of types of flowers, and just because one kind is pretty to someone, does that make all the others ugly? no. there’s tons of species of dogs too and they all look totally different. is a poodle ugly just because a golden retriever is cute? NO. your individuality is you. everyone is beautiful in the very own unique way. don’t try to look like someone ellse. your beauty is not measured by how perfect your features are.

drink some fucking water

and eat some food too

understand that a bad week doesn’t mean a bad life

we’re all going to go through those weird ass time periods where it feels like everything sucks and nothing can go right. accept that although it’s pretty bad right now, it won’t be forever.

good luck with this school year everyone! hope my tips help even just one person. take care of yourselves, kiddos.

 Korean Studying ・120816
Got back to some Korean studying today! I found out that I have improved verbally since my trip to Korea (things like simple greetings and ordering in restaurants) but grammatically…not so much, so I suppose I’ll start again from the basics! I’m also trying to improve my handwriting so right now I’m getting used to writing in between lines (instead of sticking to the bottom line like I always did), and well, let’s just say I’ll need more practise haha ୧ʕ•̀ᴥ•́ʔ୨

Song of the Day: You are my Everything - Gummy

i always wonder why people even only a century ago were so much more articulate like why does it seem like when you read diary entries or whatever from the early 1900s it sounds like they’re writing poetry when they were just talking about their day like when and why did our common style of speaking switch from so intricate to like as simple and to the point as possible. also if someone back then heard the way we speak now would they think we’re dumb or be completely lost by how much shorter everything is also why is the evolution of language so fascinating

Eyes like ice, cold and calculating narrow over the rim of a wine glass. Soft lips press to the polished glass, the crimson complimenting tan skin. If it weren’t for the soft dent between his brows you would have assumed he had not heard you. He takes his time allowing the wine to caress his palate, eyes closed as he savors the taste.  As always, he makes you wait until the wine glass is drained of it’s dark contents. You ponder on the taste, if it is bitter upon his tongue much like his words.

The Goodies-

Bruce Wayne

  • What turns them on?

✶When you touch him inappropriately in public. Especially at charities, galas and other balls. It drives him crazy the way you do it so sneakily so that no one but him notice. It’s a sure way to convince him to go home earlier.
✶Seeing you putting someone in their place with your wits and sarcasms after they’ve been rude to you…Oh he lives for this, and will have trouble to concentrate on anything else but wanting you.
✶Your smile. Your laugh. The way you light up his dark World.
✶That man has a thing with lifting your skirt slowly, and putting your panties aside. He couldn’t even tell you why, he just loves it. And obviously, it instantly turns him on when you let him.
✶Knowing that the emotions he feels for you can outlast the orgasm you both had. Oh yes. Knowing he’s loved, and can let go with you.

  • What turns them off?

There is very few things that turns him off when he’s with you, if not nothing (like literally, even when you’re being annoying, or when he’s being an ass, or if you just woke up and are disheveled and not really attractive…he’d still want you), as everything you do is just…Wow. He can’t get enough of you. Everything you do turns him on really. But He had experiences with other women before… :
✶Women who couldn’t handle a simple conversation. No connection at all with them, just sex. In and out, and then they’d be gone. He hated that. Which makes him love you more when you just spent time in each others arms talking about anything and everything. You’re the only one that makes him want to talk about what he feels and such…It’s a big relief. You’re his big relief.
✶He use to hate SO MUCH when he took a woman out that had a “fake hollywood accent”, or any fake accent. A lot of fake French one. They thought it made them more interesting, but the only thing it did, was making them super annoying to hear so…Yeah, massive turn off. He cringed more than once because of a high pitched voice, or an annoying one with a stupid fake accent.
✶Narcissism turned him off instantly. Oh the many women Alfred had to escort out because Bruce misjudge them…It happened to him a lot when he was younger, long before meeting you. He thought he’d find a kindred spirit, but turned out, it would just be a woman who wanted him for his money and fame, and who thought she was irresistible. Spoiler : those kind of women were rarely irresistible, to him at least. He could resist them very well. He could resist most women very well…But you. Oh you, it’s impossible.
✶Lack of passion. He just cannot even think about dating someone who isn’t passionate about anything.
✶Fake tits. That doesn’t even remotely look (or feel) natural. Fuck them. And oh the women he went out as a younger man had a lot of fake things physically (fake ass, tits, teeth, nose…), every thing was fake in them really, to their personality and smiles. He hated that with a passion, and often wished he could drop the “womanizer” and “playboy” persona, that wasn’t like his real him at all…Everything changed when you came in. You’re the best thing that ever happened to him, nothing fake about you (for real though, if you wanna tell him to fuck off because he’s being an asshole, they you’ll do so, and he loves that!).

  • Kinks?

Nearly violent sex. Bitey, grabby, pinny, not-holding-back sex. Paired with sweet words of encouragement and gentle forehead/Cheek kisses.
✶Surprise sex. You waking him up because his cock is in your mouth. Him whipping you around while you walk around the Manor, and boom.
✶Sex after an injury. He loves the way you’re careful with him, or how he needs to take care of you because you’re hurt.
✶He likes giving more than receiving. WITH YOU. Because he feels like he has to thank you to put up with his shit and antics…And you do it so well, oh he just has to please you. Doesn’t mean he’s against a good old blowjob though. Oh, and damn, the good old 69 am I right ?
✶He can be vanilla and/or rough, and you love it. He would never really hurt you (even if you ask him too, just light biting really), and most of the time you make love, rarely just fucking (unless you haven’t seen each other for a long time and you just need it)…He’s all for the sweet and cuddly aftercare. Cheesy man.

Richard Grayson

  • What turns them on?

✶You. Your mere presence. A slight touch of your fingers on his arms. And he’s gone. It’s not always great, like, you’d be in public and you’d just touch his thigh softly, as you do, and he’d give you “that look”…
✶Snuggles. Cuddles. Oh yes.
✶Neck kisses. It drives him beyond wild.
✶He will get harder inside you by the mere sound of your moans…And hearing you orgasm, clenching around him, is a sure way to send him over the edge too.

  • What turns them off?

✶Being with someone boring. Glad he found you.
✶If he’s with a “selfish lover”. He doesn’t mind giving at all, but for him, making love is a way to show mutual respect, to show how much you mean for each other…so if he’s with someone who only think about themselves ? No.
✶When his partner is too forward about wanting sex. “Want to fuck ?” Oh. Nope, he likes when it’s subtle. When you give him sultry looks and such. He likes the building up.
✶Bad breath. As simple as that.

  • Kinks?

✶Once, he was arguing with you and in the heat of the moment, you slapped his face. Of course you excused yourself profusely, until you realized he went from being annoyed to argue to being very aroused…You both learned something about him that day. So, light BDSM. Who would’ve thought ?
✶He lives for silly giggly sex. Pleasure, your moans and bad puns, how could it get better than this ?
✶Women’s mid sections. He loves slight belly and curvy hips. As simple as that.
✶He’s a sucker for romantic evening, that turns hot and steamy.
✶Rubbing your legs, ass and back during the act. Oh yeah.

Jason Todd

  • What turns them on?

✶Seeing you punching people. It sounds awful, but the way you don’t let anyone walk on your feet and don’t hesitate to punch people even twice your size…He loves it.
✶If you wear a dress, your legs will instantly turn him on. He loves your legs. Especially when wrapped around his waist.
✶You love to dance, and hum songs you like…Big turn on every time, as he can’t get enough of your voice, and you’re damn sexy when you dance.
✶When you’re trying to contain yourself, but simply cannot. Muscles spasm and contort as you climax.

  • What turns them off?

✶Judgmental people. The kind who decides what you are before knowing you.
✶The daddy kink. Oh God, NO.
✶It’s something kinda silly, he knows, but he hates long unclipped toe nails. Ew. You laughed the first time he told you. Well, yeah, it’s super gross.
✶Lacks of enthusiasm and initiative. He can’t be with a woman who lets him do everything, chose everything for her. And who never initiates anything. Basically, the opposite of you.

  • Kinks?

✶Clothed sex, because it feels like you two are so hungry for each other, that you just can’t bother getting all the clothes off.
✶Sex games. First one to come loses.
✶Public and semi-public sex. Hey, he likes danger. When you two are almost caught…Oh the thrill.
✶He’s very creative when it comes to sexual position. As long as your comfortable of course…He’s sure glad you’re flexible by the way.

Timothy Drake

  • What turns them on?

✶Intelligent woman. Intelligence in general.
✶The way you look at him, with so much love, that makes him feel like he’s really wanted and needed…Sometimes, he just needs validation, as he doesn’t always gets it with his family. Fortunately, you’re here for that.
✶Nibbling on his ears and neck, while whispering sweet nothing.
✶Eye contact. He just loves it.

  • What turns them off?

✶Loud people. Oh God can’t they shut up ? He hasn’t slept for the past 36 hours and they’re making his head explode. Instant turn off if there’s too many noises. Though he loves your screams…It’s different ok ?
✶If you starfish. Making love is a thing he wants to do with you, not to a very passive you. Fortunately, you’re never able to “starfish”…you’d do it as a joke sometimes, because you know he doesn’t like it, and then you wouldn’t be able to resist moving in sync with him.
✶Nothing to talk about but yourself. Someone obsessed with themselves. Oh he hates it. He’s so glad he didn’t find someone who didn’t had any subject else than themselves. He’s so glad he found you. Because with the name “Wayne” comes a plethora of women only interested in money and fame, who loves no one else but themselves.
✶He hates feigned incompetence. Like a girl who acts like she doesn’t know anything about sex, while she’s clearly experienced. He always feels manipulated when this happens…

  • Kinks?

✶He loves to “discover boundaries”. Like what you like, dislike, what you two are willing to do, the extent you can go etc etc..Knowing just until where both of your boundaries go.
✶You two nerds invented a secret “sex langage” to be able to talk about it in public. Of course you would.
✶Nerdy dirty talk. Oh the puns about technologies, and pop culture you two are able to get out while making love : it’s endless. And he loves it. It makes him feel like he found just the perfect person for him. And you really are.
✶Lazy morning sex. Bath sex. Those private moment with you, where you can just both enjoy each other. Domestic moment sex if that makes sense.

Damian Wayne (older than his current age of course)

  • What turns them on?

✶Training together, seeing you fight and such. The way your body moves…Gets him every time.
✶The way you look at him and tell him “I love you”. He’ll never get tired of it. Seeing the love in your eyes for him, knowing you mean it, that there’s at least one person in the world that really love and appreciate his bratty ass.
✶When you caress his hair, fingers massaging his scalp. Soothing and arousing at the same time.
✶The way you bite your lips or stick out your tongue when you’re focused.

  • What turns them off?

✶He tries to be nice about it but…Body odors. If you smell because you two jumped on each other before you could take a shower…Instant turn off. Even his own smell could turn him off. Basically, if it smells bad, he won’t be able to concentrate on sex at all. He’s a living paradox however as he loves the smell of your sweat.
✶Hurting you.
✶Rude and vulgar people.
✶Lack of empathy.

  • Kinks?

✶Sensory deprivation. Like blindfolded, so you have to rely on trust and such. Or handcuffed, so you can’t touch and…again trust comes in. Sometimes, he would put headphones on your ears, so you wouldn’t know what his next move is by the sound…Basically, knowing you trust him and letting him do all that.
✶He likes trying new things. But will never do anything you’re uncomfortable doing of course. Consent is key.
✶Always the tease though.
✶Sometimes, he’ll argue with you ON PURPOSE just for the amazing make-up sex afterward…Each time you’ll give him a look meaning : “really Damian ?”, and he’ll just smirk back at you. He knows how to push all your buttons, and oh, he just really like the way you are during make-up sex.
✶You come first. He loves you, he wants you to be comfortable, but he also like trying new things and he’s so damn glad he found someones like you who’s willing to be adventurous.

Ten things I learned about writing from Stephen King
The novelist James Smythe, who has been analysing the work of Stephen King for the Guardian since 2012, on the lessons he has drawn from the master of horror fiction
By James Smythe

Stephen King is an All-Time Great, arguably one of the most popular novelists the world has ever seen. And there’s a good chance that he’s inspired more people to start writing than any other living writer. So, as the Guardian and King’s UK publisher Hodder launch a short story competition – to be judged by the master himself – here are the ten most important lessons to learn from his work.

1. Write whatever the hell you like

King might be best known – or, rather, best regarded – as a writer of horror novels, but really, his back catalogue is crammed with every genre you can think of. There are thrillers (Misery, Gerald’s Game), literary novels (Bag Of Bones, Different Seasons), crime procedurals (Mr Mercedes), apocalypse narratives (The Stand), fantasy (Eyes Of The Dragon, The Dark Tower series) … He’s even written what I think of as being one of the greatest Young Adult novels of all time: The Long Walk. Perhaps the only genre or audience he hasn’t really touched so far is comedy, but most of his work features moments that show his deft touch with humour. It’s clear that King does what he wants, when he wants, and his constant readers – the term he calls his, well, constant readers – will follow him wherever he goes.

2. The scariest thing isn’t necessarily what’s underneath the bed

Horror is a curious thing. What scares one person won’t necessarily scare another. And while there might be moments in his horror novels that tread towards the more conventional ideas of what some find terrifying, for the most part, the truly scary aspects are those that deal with humanity itself. Ghosts drive people to madness, telekinetic girls destroy whole towns with their powers, clowns … well, clowns are just bloody terrifying full stop. But the true crux of King’s ability to scare is finding the thing that his readers are actually worried about, and bringing that to the fore. If you’re writing horror, don’t just think about what goes bump in the night; think about what that bump might drive people to do afterwards.

3. Don’t be scared of transparency

One of my favourite things about King’s short story collections are the little notes about each tale that he puts into the text. The history of them, the context for the idea, how the writing process actually worked. They’re not only invaluable material for aspiring writers – because exactly how many drafts does it take to reach a decent story? King knows! – but they’re also brilliant nuggets of insight into King himself. Some people might think that it’s better off knowing nothing about authors when they read their work, but for King, his heart is on his sleeve. In his latest collection, The Bazaar of Broken Dreams, King gets more in-depth than ever, talking about what inspired the stories in such an honest way that it couldn’t have come from another writer’s pen. Which brings us to …

4. Write what you know. Sort of. Sometimes

Write what you know is the most common writing tip you’ll find anywhere. It’s nonsense, really, because if we all did that we’d end up with terribly boring novels about writers staring out of windows waiting for inspiration to hit. (If you like those, incidentally, head straight for the literary fiction section of your nearest bookshop.) But King understands that experience is something which can be channelled into your work, and should be at every opportunity. Aspects of his life – addiction, teaching, his near-fatal car accident, rock and roll, ageing – have cropped up in his work over and over, in ways that aren’t always obvious, but often help to drive the story. That’s something every writer can use, because it’s through these truths that real emotions can be writ large on the page.

5. Aim big. Or small

King’s written some mammoth books, and they’re often about mammoth things. The Stand takes readers into an apocalypse, with every stage of it laid out on the page until the final fantastical showdown. It deals with a horror that hits a group of characters twice in their lives, showing us how years and years of experience can change people. And The Dark Tower is a seven (or eight, or more, if you count the short stories set in its world) part series that takes in so many different genres of writing it’s dizzying. When he needs to, King aims really big, and sometimes that’s what you have to do to tell a story. At the other end of the spectrum, some of King’s most enduring stories – Rita Hayworth & Shawshank Redemption, The Mist – have come from his shorter works. He traps small groups of characters in single locations and lets the story play out how it will. The length of the story you’re telling should dictate the size of the book. Doesn’t matter if it’s forty thousand words or two hundred, King doesn’t waste a word.

6. Write all the time. And write a lot

King’s published – wait for it – 55 novels, 11 collections of stories, 5 non-fiction works, 7 novellas and 9 assorted other pieces (including illustrated works and comic books). That’s over a period of 41 years. That’s an average of two books a year. Which is, I must admit, a pretty giddying amount. That’s years of reading (or rereading, if you’re as foolishly in awe of him as I am). But he’s barely stopped for breath. This year has seen three books published by him, which makes me feel a little ashamed. Still, at my current rate of writing, I might catch up with him sometime next century. And while not every book has found the same critical and commercial success, they’ve all got their fans.

7. Voice is just as important as content

King’s a writer who understands that a story needs to begin before it’s actually told. It begins in the voice of the novel: is it first person, or third? Is it past or present tense? Is it told through multiple narrators, or just the one? He’s a master at understanding exactly why each story is told the way it’s told. Sure, he might dress it up as something simple – the story finding the voice it needs, or vice versa – but through his books you can see that he’s tried pretty much everything, and can see why each voice worked with the story he was telling.

8. And Form is just as important as voice

King isn’t really thought of as an experimental novelist, which is grossly unfair. Some of King’s more daring novels have taken on really interesting forms. Be it The Green Mile’s fragmented, serialised narrative; or the dual publication of The Regulators and Desperation – novels which featured the same characters in very different situations, with unsettling parallels between the stories that unfolded for them; or even Carrie’s mixed-media narrative, with sections of the story told as interview or newspaper extract. All of these novels have played with the way they’re presented on the page to find the perfect medium for telling those stories. Really, the lesson here from King is to not be afraid to play.

9. You don’t have to be yourself

Some of King’s greatest works in the early years of his career weren’t published by King himself. They were in the name of Richard Bachman, his slightly grislier pseudonym. The Long Walk, Thinner, The Running Man – these are books that dealt with a nastier side of things than King did in his properly attributed work. Because, maybe it’s good to have a voice that allows us to let the real darkness out, with no judgments. (And then maybe, as King eventually did in The Dark Half, it’s good to kill that voice on the page … )

10. Read On Writing. Now

This is the most important tip in the list. In 2000, King published On Writing, a book that sits in the halfway space between autobiography and writing manual. It’s full of details about his process, about how he wrote his books, channelled his demons and overcame his challenges. It’s one of the few books about writing that are actually worth their salt, mainly because it understands that it’s about a personal experience, and readers might find that useful. There’s no universal truths when it comes to writing. One person’s process would be a nightmare for somebody else. Some people spend years labouring on nearly perfect first drafts; some people get a first draft written in six weeks, and then spend the next year destroying it and rebuilding it. On Writing tells you how King does it, to help you to find your own. Even if you’re not a fan of his books, it’s invaluable to the in-development writer. Heck, it’s invaluable to all writers.

oh, shit, people actually asked me to follow up on Preaching The Good Word of A Functional Alignment System, okay

i hope you people know what you’re unleashing here

(whole thing prompted by this right here, notably including the tag #unpopular opinion: the definition of lawful and chaotic has been thoroughly twisted over the years since od&d)

So some of you (the ones who didn’t request this) might be wondering: “Alterz, why would you want to go back to the old alignment method? If people generally agree on the new alignment definitions then why confuse things by trying to change them? Is this just some old system nostalgia?”

Well 1) I’m too young by far for old system nostalgia but more importantly 2) people don’t? agree????? on the alignments???????

And that’s a problem, because the whole point of the alignments is to give some rough guidelines on how any given character is likely to act. It should be inarguable. The very fact that people can have arguments over what an alignment is means that the system has failed.

If you look in the alignment section on the more recent D&D editions, they literally have to go into detail on each alignment to explain what each one means. Worse still, for a system theoretically set up as a gradient, the different alignments are basically buckets and it gets really confusing if a character doesn’t neatly fit into one of those buckets.

Some examples from characters I have actually played: a mercenary who I labeled as neutral because I could make equally compelling arguments for why he should be lawful neutral, chaotic neutral, neutral good, and neutral evil. A hermit who at any given time was chaotic neutral or neutral good, but could never reliably be described as chaotic good.

Under the system I’m about to provide you, the mercenary is inarguably chaotic neutral and the hermit is unambiguously lawful good. End of sentence, all cleared up.

getting the hang of hiragana and katakana. everything makes SO much more sense now (excuse my terrible japanese handwriting, i’m practising to make all the characters look more even and correct!). now learning how to write simple greetings and phrases that i’ve picked up over the years, but never knew how to put on paper. it’s all coming together!

ig: @parisiemme

Can I just

Comma splits.  No.  Leave them alone.  Stop using them.

(I don’t mean that.  I am fundamentally against any writing advice that gives out absolutes.  Keep using comma splits, just… maybe take a break from them? For a while? learn how to use them at least???)

Okay because this

“He frowned at the suggestion, he just wasn’t that kind of person.”

That’s clunky.  That ruins the rhythm of whatever you were saying before.  In fact, it has no rhythm.  It is rhythmless, it is useless, it is time for us to move on.

Remember that everything you write, people are hearing your words in their heads, and punctuation matters for that.  I read sentence structure like that as “He frowned at the suggestionhejustwasn’tthatkindofperson.”  Mostly because the comma isn’t enough of a pause to give the second clause any weight.  It just blends into the first and makes the whole sentence seem clumsy.  Rhythmless, like I said.

Specifically, it ruins the rhythm because this is actually two separate sentences stuck together when they really, really need to be two.

“He frowned at the suggestion.  He just wasn’t that kind of person.”

Which reads to me as “He frowned at the suggestion. [BEAT] He just wasn’t that kind of person.”  Much more dynamic.

In general, if you have two independent clauses (ie two sentence segments that work as their own sentences), they have more impact if you separate them.  A comma, while perfectly functional, indicates a brief pause in speech that doesn’t nearly have the gravitas that your gorgeous writing deserves.  (Or comedy, as the case may be).

There are other things you can do to spice things up.  Semicolons are designed for this kind of sentence structure.  They live for this kind of sentence structure.  They are dying without our attention and that, my friends, is a goddamn tragedy.

“He frowned at the suggestion; he just wasn’t that kind of person.”

To me, semicolons are both a vocal inflection and half a beat.  The combination means that there’s still a distinction between the two clauses, but their still connected into one sentence.

Semicolons are super useful in that they imply that two separate sentences are actually related.  It’s not quite a colon, where the second clause essentially explains the first; more like a colon, a comma, and a period had a lovechild together*.  You can say the two sentences together, but they function a lot better together.

*Please make sure when you use this the two clauses are actually independent, otherwise it won’t make any sense

Em-dashes are my personal favorite for connecting independent clauses.  For example:

“He frowned at the suggestion– he just wasn’t that kind of person.”

Just like the semicolon, em-dashes make the second sentence related to the first, but to a bigger extreme.  They make the second clause actually dependent on the first, and give it an air of an aside in a play.  It’s all very Shakespearean, which is why I like it.  (Parentheticals do the same job, but like you’re doing the aside in a whisper.)

So many alternatives to a comma split!  And I mean, there’s also a few lessons in here about rhythm and how it affects your writing; on whether this example I’ve used is anything I would want in a finished product (depends on the point of view, I guess, but generally no, I would not want that anywhere near even my second draft); and on the ways that narrative writing can be both very experimental and informal when it comes to grammar, but also very strict, and it all depends on what emotions you’re trying to get across.

But the point is, comma splits are not doing your writing any favors.  Just… take a look, see if they’re working, and take them out if they’re not, because it’s driving me crazy.

[Article] BTS Is Back! The K-Pop Kings Talk Their New Album and Ever-Evolving Style

Just ahead of the release, the members sat down for an exclusive interview with Vogue to break down their new look and evolving personal style. Despite a long day of filming and dance rehearsals, they were in good spirits, laughing and chattering happily. “Let’s go!” J-Hope said. Here, we do.

Q. Tell us about the new visual concept for this album. What kind of style did you pick to express it?

Suga: It’s about boys falling in love. There are four versions of love, and we shot four different photos to show them. Though each one is different, the same feeling of love comes through in every shot. There’s a sense of playfulness, of friends hanging out comfortably at home in their free time, and that kind of fluttering feeling. Visually, we cover a lot of ground.

The lyrics and the music themselves are about finding your fate. In this album, we cover a wide range of songs: There are high-energy ones, very hip-hop ones. It’s quite diverse. To match it, the style covers a range of colorful, sporty, leisure, and boyish clothes. They go well together: powerful music, colorful clothes.

J-Hope: It’s very colorful and sporty, overall. I think there’s a slightly retro feel, too. Among the seven members, I think we each kind of bring out our hidden boyishness through our clothes.

Suga: It’s totally different. When we did You Never Walk Alone, we wore a lot of casual clothes. This time, it’s a lot flashier. Super colorful, yet more high-end and comfortable at the same time. More of that comforting feeling.

J-Hope: Right, this time we wanted to show more of that boyish style.

Q. How would you describe BTS’s style in general, looking back across your work?

Rapmon: Just style.

Jimin: Truthfully, we have a very energetic style, I would say.

Q. A lot has been said about the kind of individuality you hope to express as a band. Is that something that comes into play with your style, letting each member’s own persona come through?

Jimin: Of course; it’s important. With each new album, we do a lot of fittings. And each time we do those fittings, we talk a lot and always share our thoughts as we go. We put a lot of effort into looking for clothes that express ourselves and the feelings we want to express with each album’s concept. We want to show that, [but] without losing our individuality either.

V: I don’t think we have one signature. With each concept, we change it up completely and the styles have been so diverse. For “Boy in Luv,” we wore school uniforms. For “Blood, Sweat & Tears,” it was a range of suits and white shirts. As artists, we have to change our style to match each concept. We’re always changing, ever changing.

Q. Do you have a favorite piece you wore for this comeback?

Suga: I loved all the oversize shirts.

Jungkook: Me too. There’s a loose, navy chiffon shirt I wore with slacks that was particularly light and comfortable. I liked that a lot.

J-Hope: I liked wearing those basketball jerseys, and those ultra-colorful sweaters, too.

Rapmon: There was a really big windbreaker that I liked because it was so big.

V: I liked everything, but the accessories most of all. Particularly all the rings and earrings, I liked those the most.

Jimin: For me, it was the bright red shirt from “DNA.”

Q. Who do you think has changed the most since you debuted?

J-Hope: V?

Suga: V has changed a lot, and Jimin changed a lot.

Rapmon: Jungkook, too.

Q. In what way?

Jimin: We’ve all gotten old.

J-Hope: Our maknae line [the youngest members] has changed a lot. They are the youngest and looked it when we debuted, but now, they look more grown-up.

Jin: Like Jimin. Overall, his face changed from cute to sexy.

Q. What do you want most for this comeback?

Suga: To make the Billboard Hot 100 is my dream.

J-Hope: Let’s get it! Dream!

Rapmon: I would like all the members to be healthy.

J-Hope: Health!

Suga: It’s the most important thing, really.

Jimin: I would like to be 3 centimeters taller.

V: For real. I want to have wide shoulders like Jin.

Jimin: Me too [laughs]. For real.

Suga: If everyone could be happy, I would be happy.

J-Hope: Peace!

Jungkook: For me, I’d like to travel a lot. Anywhere would be great. And if I could learn to speak English and Japanese well, that would be great, too.

J-Hope: I also would like the members to be healthy and happy. And everyone else, all our fans.

Q. Any last words for your American fans?

J-Hope: Of course, American Army.

Suga: No matter what, our American Army is so big, and we are so very thankful to them. From now on, we want to put on even cooler performances, be cooler, be better, so look forward to it. Please, always look forward to it.

V: Thank you! We love American Army so much!

Q. Tell us about your personal style. What are you into lately?

V: In my case, I like to pick one piece that pops against everything else. I like flashy shirts, or I’ll wear a simple shirt with a fancy necktie. I also like vintage pieces, more standout ones. I’ll go to certain boutiques and look for clothes without labels. You can find a lot of nice unbranded shirts, and I wear those a lot.

Jimin: To be honest, I don’t think much about style, or “oh, this is my style,” that sort of thing. I follow my mood, which is so different day to day. Generally, I like a wide range of styles, but lately, I’ve been reaching for comfortable, simple things. Simple slacks and shirts.

Jungkook: Are you familiar with the term paealmot [fashion-know-nothing]? I don’t know anything about fashion. So for me, I reach for anything comfortable. I wear a lot of athleisure and workout clothes—sweatpants and sweatshirts—as I like to stay active.

Jin: I like to dress warmly, comfortably as I go around. Naturally I like easy fashion. My style is clean, polished, and gentle looking. Or you could say I prefer to wear big sweatshirts and hoodies.

J-Hope: I’m into streetwear, and more colorful looks. These days, bags have become more of a thing for me—these mini cross bags are so great.

Suga: These days I’m wearing a lot of Jordans, those sneakers. I’ve been wearing a lot of slippers, too, and comfortable clothes in general. I really like that kind of oversize fit.

Rap Monster: These days, I’m most into staying comfortable. I do have a lot of interest in Japanese brands, so I’ve been looking at cool Japanese hyungs [older brothers] and carefully studying their style. Brands like WTAPS, Visvim, I like a lot.

Q.  What is one item you can’t live without?

V: I like old-school, vintage-style glasses a lot. As for accessories, I really like them all.

Jimin: I like accessories a lot. Hats, caps, beanies, I like all of them. I also look for special standout earrings, rings, necklaces … I like to layer them on heavily.

Jungkook: I don’t like accessories all that much, except for hats. I like bucket hats and beanies a lot, and I sometimes wear rings or bracelets. I’m the kind of person that if I put it on once, I’ll leave it on forever.

Jin: I like silver accessories. I think they suit me well.

J-Hope: I like hats a lot—bucket hats, sun caps, beanies, and fitted caps. And like I said before, I like bags a lot. I like shoes that stand out, too. Lately, I’ve been wearing a lot of running shoes, the kind that look good with very wide pants.

Suga: I also love accessories, especially bracelets and rings. King rings, the really big ones. I’ll wear a lot of them at once.

Rap Monster: I like hats. As for a favorite … I like all of them, though? Really. I wear hats all the time.

Q.  How much interest do you have in fashion?

Jin: “How do I mix and match these things together … ” I tend to stand in front of the closet worrying like that.

Q.  Who is your style icon right now?

V: I don’t have a big role model at the moment, but later on, I would like to channel [actor] Ryoo Seung-bum [who is known for his unique style].

Jimin: I don’t have one exactly, but I like to look on the Internet for cool, well-dressed people and get inspired that way.

Jungkook: I am my own role model. I want to follow myself.

Jin: [Actor] Kang Dong Won. The clothes he wears, it’s the fit and style I like.

J-Hope: I like A$AP Rocky. How to put it … he dresses on-trend, but he also dresses for himself. He’s made his own style. It’s hip, but has a clean, polished kind of feel. That whole A$AP Mob style, I like.

Suga: Like Jungkook, I don’t really have one. I just look for what I like and what I feel comfortable wearing.

Rap Monster: Cool hyungs I look up to, even people I pass on the street in Seoul. People dress so well here, it’s easy to get inspired.

My Thoughts on Why the Hetalia Fandom is Failing

A lot of people, including myself before have claimed that this fandom is ‘dying’. My opinion has changed since joining tumblr.  I don’t think that things are that bad just yet because people are still very much in the fandom.

The problem is that we aren’t very active. This is what I’ve noticed so far.

1)      The Popular Blogs Aren’t Active: To have and keep your fans, you need to make consistent material, rather than posting occasionally. It’s what makes people excited and inspires them to create their own content. Even if it’s just one post a day, it’s still really important to post (if you can, of course), as it maintains people’s interest. Especially when you have such a large platform of followers!

Don’t get me wrong, there are some amazing Hetalia blogs that post several times everyday, and I’m always looking for new ones to follow!

2)      Not All Fanart Is Equal: Another thing about our fandom is that new artists aren’t given a chance to thrive. There are amazing new artists out there, but people only reblog the work from the popular blogs. Why not all?  If you see great content, reblog it regardless of how much attention that blog has received.

3)      Reblog Reblog Reblog: Reblog everything, friends. The more you reblog, the more people see content and want to get into it. Simple!

 4)      Fanfiction: The fanfiction community hardly has any responses nowadays, in comparison to what it used to be. Fanfic authors spend hours of their spare time for free to create stories for you to read and enjoy. It’s so important to follow, favourite, and review. Most of the time, authors reach out and post material to connect with their audience (as is with artists too). If there aren’t any responses, then they aren’t going to bother posting.  Good Fics have gotten a lot of people through some tough times, so I would hate to see that part of the community die out.

If you have an account, support the stories you read. It makes no sense not to, and any comment, no matter how short, means the world to them. It doesn’t take you nearly as much time to support a story as it does to create one. Don’t be lazy if you’re a reader – the stories aren’t going to create themselves, they need encouragement and praise to continue :)

5)      SUPPORT ALL CONTENT: All art, stories, head canons, RPG’s, RPs, and anything else in this crazy fandom needs to be supported. If you love the fandom and want it to thrive, support is your greatest tool to make it happen.

I know some people are going to think I’m being melodramatic by writing this. Or perhaps I care too much. Still, I think the Hetalia fandom deserves better. Sure, there’s some really freaky content, but we’re a bunch of history nerds and weirdos anyways, so whatever, as long as you’re not being offensive.

This is the one fandom that I haven’t ever gotten bored with. The concept of countries being personified is just so ripe with creativity and potential. There is so much you can do with the large list of cast members, i.e. the mecca of ships and AUs. We’ve created a ton of content thus far, so why stop now?

We’re a community, so don’t you think we should start acting like it by becoming active again and supporting each other? The fact that we trended last week makes this even more possible!

Hasta la Pasta, let’s make Hetalia awesome again!

Reblog if you agree :)

“ Triangles are my favorite shape
Three points where two lines meet.” (tessellate)

Triangles are supposed to be the strongest and most stable of all geometric shapes. You wonder how true this statement is if applied to real life situations. The way you see it: triangles aren’t a reliable structure for relationships, especially if the parties you’re involved with find commitment to be a foreign concept.

The world began with just one tree. One tree, one patch of dirt, and six fledgling gods. Each god slowly found their role in creating this world, their world.

All six started equal, with limited knowledge of what it truly takes to craft a new world. They began together, as a team, learning and building side by side. Through this they began to discover their expertise, their realms and roles.

The first to find his place was Haywood, the god of Machines,Evolution, and Progress. He built the devices that provide resources for the others and developed new technologies, he strived to automate and simplify life, to make everything better and faster. He brought industry to the world before the others had learned where they belonged.

The second to find their talent was Pattillo, the god of both Life and Death. He developed agriculture beyond the simplicity of trees to provide nourishment to his fellow gods. Corn, carrots, watermelon, inferium, redstone, and much more, all could be found in the farms of this god. He also developed the spawners, to safely acquire materials from the monsters that also inhabit the world.

Free was the next young god to learn where he belonged. Originally the god of Playfulness, he found his true calling as the god of Light and Energy under the guidance of Haywood. Free used the light to develop clean energy, and from there developed wireless energy to power his fellow gods devices and machines. He was the most carefree of the gods, often pulling small pranks, much to the ire of the more serious of the group.

Quickly after, Ramsey found his calling in the way of Animal Farming. The eldest of the gods created all of the animals in the world, from cows to sheep and so forth. He favored his chickens the most, however, and he bred them carefully and with purpose. These chickens of myth could provide resources to the gods, everything from iron to ender pearls, they were the pride of Ramsey’s farm.

Dooley was the last god to find his place. Originally, as the youngest, he was a simple helper. He grew tired of this role and began toying with spare materials, and discovered something entirely new. Dooley became the god of Magics that day. From blood alters to mana pools, he quickly developed his skills, creating wands that would summon water, burn foes, and even allow him to fly higher than Haywood’s jetpacks. The youngest god had found his place.

And what of the sixth god? What was his domain? Jones never truly discovered his place, but he never let that bother him. He became the god of Wanderers, of those who prefer to help and observe, and let the wind take him wherever it desired. He was there when Haywood created jetpacks, when Ramsey hatched the first chicken, when Dooley created his first rune. He helped Pattillo kill monsters before the spawners were born, and he encouraged Free and even participated in his pranks. And he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Study methods in University

The first thing my university teachers told us when starting was to not bother rewriting lecture notes about every single thing because you won’t have time.

It’s different in university.

You have a LOT more content thrown at you in each lecture and it’s impossible to deepen your knowledge in everything. You just don’t have time.

This is the time to prioritize prioritize prioritize. Find out through 2nd-year students or past tests or even through the teachers what are the most important things to know (and most often that’s already a lot), and normally stick with that. It’s already super interesting and it’s going to take your time, believe me.

What I do is

  • lecture notes on my laptop (just because it’s quicker and more organized for me but you can also do handwritten)
  • when I get home I print the lecture slides (you can print 3 to 4 slides per page to save paper)
  • and annotate them on the free spaces, with my lecture notes, textbook, and Google on the side
    • I basically highlight the important things on the lecture slides
    • copy things from my notes that the teacher mentioned and aren’t on the slides
    • draw diagrams/tables for later revision
    • google some questions I’ve had, and write down anything I find particularly interesting (you can consider this google time for you to search deeper on the subjects).

So what I mean is: you can still go on and read extra, search more articles about whatever you’re studying, but it doesn’t mean you should be worried about it. You should be worried about what is mandatory to know.

In conclusion: I understand things in lecture and while I’m annotating the slides. For revision, I go through the already annotated slides and do practice exercises.

PS: if your teacher doesn’t give you the slides you can find powerpoints, pdfs or pages online: google them and they’ll do the job of the base to annotate in. Anything really that has the content given in class so you don’t have to write everything.

So in my case, my lecture notes are less informative and more condensed, and when I review the material through the slides I basically try to organize the content in my brain and find the most important concepts.

There is NO time to start from the beginning and write beautiful notes about everything. Hell to the no. I’m sorry to break this to you babe, but you do have to make it easier on you.

Now, like you said, loads of people have this problem, I’ve had this problem. Coming into uni, we have to find new study methods and ways to get organized.

What distinguishes the great students is the capacity to prioritize and never lose the big picture of all the things you learn organized - like a big mindmap. Or drawers or rooms inside your brain, if you wish.

So always keep that in mind. How each lecture material relates to the other given before and how everything fits together.

Getting behind is also very common (a 2nd-year student told me) especially because you’re still trying to figure out how you’re going to study. Tips for catching up:

never stop studying this week’s lectures because you’re studying the last week ones. This will create a snowball effect. The lectures that are behind are behind, as long as you understood them well, it’s not half as bad as you think. Catch up on the annotating slowly whenever you have some minutes to spear, on a weekend p.e. But don’t prioritize them over this week’s lectures. That is key.

find your study method as fast as you can. Don’t keep switching up. Maybe rewriting your lectures notes on a binder is too time-consuming, maybe you’ll prefer to do mindmaps instead, maybe you’ll follow the method I explained above, but whatever it is! Start studying now because you need something simple that works for you and for the modules that you’re taking.

don’t try to catch up those 10 lectures at the same time. Do the most important ones first, the less important ones last. Spread them over a big period of time, in between studying the week’s lectures. You’ll be fine.

After all this I just want to say one more thing: don’t overthink it. University is different than high school because you can never know everything. The lectures touch on so broad subjects that you can spend hours studying just one. So don’t stress out too much, no one is expecting perfection from you. Just do your best, and you’ll be amazed by your results.

Hope this helped, the best luck! ♡

Tips For A Broke Hoe✨

1. Download your bank’s app onto your phone so you can check your account balance and transactions. This can help prevent you from spending too much money, keep track of what you’re buying and how often, and can also catch identity and bank theives early so you don’t lose all your money.
2. Get a job with a place you shop at frequently. A majority of retail companies give their employees some generous discounts (for example I work at Kohls and we get 15% normally, plus frequent 20/20/15% stacked friends and familu discounts, plus frequent 35% off everything discounts, AND employees can stack coupons and Kohl’s cash when other customers can’t).

9. Talk to your bank about setting up a Certificate of Deposit (CD). This is a particular savings account that when you invest your money, it accumulates mote interest over a set amount of time, so when yhat time is up you have more money than what you started with. Be careful with these though, because interest rates can vary, and if you withdraw any money from your CD before the set time is up, you can lose your interest or even your original funds. This is good for saving up bulk amounts of money for college, cars, or a home.
10. Set up budgets for each week/month/year to regulate your spending. Categorize your money imto things like “Food,” “Clothes,” “Gas,” “Personal Care,” “Bills,” etc.

19. Sell, return, or donate shit you don’t need or want. Liking everything you have (clothes, makeup, appliances, etc) is gonna keep you organized and simple, and gives you an idea of what you want/need so you go into a store without splurging on even more shit you don’t need (I know its a little confusing, but trust me your life will be so much easier)
20. I know this should be obvious, but have a good work ethic. You’re more likely to get raises and promotions. Every single is a potential reference, and you never know when you’ll be in a pinch for money and may need that job back temporarily.
21. Don’t waste all of your money on stupid shit like drugs or alcohol; its expensive and toxic for your beautiful body anyway.
22. Keep your bills, receipts, taxes, insurance policies, and other important personal information in the same organized place (I recommend a labelled file cabinent or binder). Financial organization is 🔑
23. Keep a journal of everything you buy & how much you spent in a month. At the end of each month, review and assess what were necessary buys and what you can cut down on next month.
24. If you’re a college student, a lot of schools have a free gym membership. Use it.

Thats all for now, hoes💎

Ok but here’s the thing about when Clarke says Octavia “will see how special you are”: she’s not really looking intensely at Bellamy, she’s not in “convincing” mode, or calming mode. She just breathes it out as fact, like one of the fundamental laws of existence: Bellamy Blake is special. Because to her, there’s never been a question. That Bellamy Blake is special is something that just /is/, to Clarke - it’s why she’s so confused when others can’t see it, when /Bellamy/ can’t see it. And to an extent, it’s because Clarke knows Bellamy better than anybody, and appreciates everything he brings to the table more than anyone else. But that’s not all of it. No, Clarke doesn’t realize that the reason saying “she’ll realize how special you are” is as right and simple as saying “the sky is blue” isn’t just because Bellamy /is/ special, it’s because Bellamy is special TO HER. Her love for him has become so much a part of her that she assumes other people can see what she sees. Bellamy Blake is special and Clarke Griffin loves him. It just /is/.
