The Duc de La Rochefoucauld-Doudeauville with his Terrier, c. 1875, Jean-Léon Gérôme, (French 1824-1904).
The duc is posed at the top of the grand staircase of his home in Paris, the Hôtel de Boisgelin (c.1732). Parts of the hôtel were redesigned by French architect, Henri Parent around 1875. The grand staircase (“escalier d'honneur”) seen in the painting was inspired by the queen’s staircase at the Palace of Versailles and panelled with polychromatic marble plaques.

I’m really glad that you like it!
Also, I’ve decided to make a blog for all the Spooky Hotel AU asks and plausible prompts, just to keep everything more organized. All the main art/comics will still be uploaded here on my main blog and then reblogged there.
If you want to keep up on the Spooky Hotel AU stuff or have questions, head to the blog: @spookyhotelau
