and ariel does realize that her father does love her that he never stopped loving her

Why the Disney guys are great

ERIC: He loves his dog. He plays the flute really well and that’s hard to do. Really gentle and sweet. When he found Ariel on the beach he took her home and took care of her. Great smile. Is a chill guy but will also not hesitate to stab and kill an evil sea witch with his boat.

PHILIP: Hears a pretty sound and follows it. Great singing voice. Never realizes that the girl he fell in love with is the princess he’s supposed to marry. Falls so in love that the first thing he does is go to his father and tell him. Has that goofy little hat with a feather. Fought a motherfucking dragon on a cliff.

NAVEEN: Immediately takes off his royal suit into a civilians outfit and disappears playing ukulele. Even though he’s turned into a frog he’s still oozing confidence. Can only mince food, doesn’t know how to do anything else. Made a ring out of scrap even though they’re frogs. Is willing to give everything up as long as Tiana gets her restaurant. Has that nice curl that falls onto his forehead. Unplaceable yet charming accent.

HERCULES: His strength too big for his goddamn body. Goes from zero to a hundred real quick. Even though he can deck a monster in a minute flat he has no idea how to talk to girls. Socially awkward. Good with kids. Can do a push-up on one finger. When told to use his head he took it literally. Punched his uncle, the god of the underworld, in the face.

FLYNN RIDER: Sarcasm galore. The Smolder. Drop dead gorgeous looks. Doesn’t mind that he’s on a wanted poster but does mind that they can’t get his nose right. Is the only one who sees it’s weird to randomly start singing. Can’t fight for shit, barley manages to make do with a frying pan. Has the most ridiculous birth name in Disney history. Got stabbed in the gut but cut Rapunzel’s hair to save her, not at all caring about himself. First words after not dying aren’t “I love you” but “I have a thing for brunettes” because of corse they are.

ADAM: Swooshes his cape around in the shadows like some kind of wannabe batman. Is extra as fuck. Still acts like a child sometimes. Has had no social interaction for years but is trying his best. Gets easily confused. Doesn’t know what to do when he realizes he has feelings for people. Is too shy to tell Belle he loves her. Feels bad the second after he scares Belle away. Would literally rather die then live without the girl he loves. Has the most extra transformation back into a human while everyone else doesn’t.

MAUI: Gets scared easily. Amazing hair. That little face he makes when he can’t use his hook right. Was building a statue of himself in his cave like a dork. Magic tattoos. Can’t fish to save his life. Gave humans fire and wind and coconuts. That smirk he does, you know the one. Great sense of humor. Did everything he could think of to make humans happy so they would like him. Was a total puppy when he got his hook back and fixed.

FERDINAND: So fucking sweet and gentle. Has a name that tells us he doesn’t even need Snow White for animals to follow him around. Sings to Snow White when she’s on her balcony like a modern day Romeo. Knows when Snow White went missing because he kept visiting and goes to look for her right away. Is literally heartbroken when he finds her, thinking she’s dead and is overjoyed when she wakes up. A good boy, a soft boy. Literally has done zero things wrong in his entire life.

ALADDIN: Tricked the genie right off the bat. Jumped right in to help Jasmine with the guards. Steals food but ends up giving it to orphan children living in the street. Is the most selfless person in Agrabah. Quick thinker and can outsmart anyone. Is one of the only Disney princes who actually know how to sword fight. Has matching hats with his pet monkey.

LI SHANG: Sexuality crisis. “You fight good”. Turns a bunch of losers into warriors. Rarely ever wears a shirt for some reason. Tries out his new title of captain alone in his tent all exited like a little kid. Doesn’t give up, not once, on anything. Would literally die for Mulan. Fine as hell.

CHARMING: Gets bored at his own ball. Is a hopeless romantic. Doesn’t care for people who gush over him because he’s the prince, and in fact took interest in Cinderella because she was the only one not doing that. Jumped out a window for Cinderella. Is a super supportive husband. Went door to door looking for Cinderella, determined to find her no matter what. Good dancer.

FELIX: Doesn’t know how to be mean. Considers totally harmless words bad language. Ridiculously short. That video game sound when he jumps. Thinks that by saying Ralph’s catchphrase it will give him Ralph’s power to wreck stuff as well. Can speak qbertese. Dripping with southern farm boy charm. Is a shit dancer but that’s what makes it fun to watch. After accidentally triggering Calhoun he respects her making him leave and never uses the phrase again. Pulls Vanellope back from danger on the rainbow bridge and then makes sure she stays behind him. “Do you think they’ll stop there?” “YES!”

(( If I missed any that you want to see, just let me know & I’ll make a part 2! ))

It’s Okay to be a Disney Princess

I think Auli’i Cravalho seems like a great person based on what we’ve seen of her since she was announced as Moana’s voice actress. So, I’m not trying to antagonize her with this post. But I just want to say, “Why can’t Moana be both?” Disney Princesses have shown plenty of heroism in the different films that feature them. A heroine can be a Disney Princess and a Disney Princess can be a heroine.

Snow White escaped the Queen after the huntsman spared her and the princess’ kindness helped her enlist the help of woodland creatures who helped her find the cottage of the dwarves. When she got there, she convinced them to let her stay by earning her keep. And, even though she was cooking and cleaning for them, she still had those men wrapped around her finger. When she first met them and said “How do you do?” and they didn’t respond, she enunciated, “I said, how do you do?” Yeah, Snow White could be a little sassy. And she was assertive with the dwarves and only let them eat dinner after they all cleaned up and even got Grumpy to do it. So, yes, she fell for the witch’s trick (but she was only 14 and very sheltered in the castle as a scullery maid) and then fell asleep for the last part of the film, so the dwarves and animals had to confront the queen and she could only be woken up the kiss of the prince she liked. But people always seem to forget some of the cool stuff that she did.

Cinderella spent most of her childhood abused by her stepmother and stepsisters. She retained her kindness and never stooped to the mean and petty levels of her family. But that does not mean she just gleefully put up with their crap. She had a little bit sass and had a few sarcastic quips about her stepfamily and their cat Lucifer under her belt. Take this quote, for instance,

“Oh, that clock! Old killjoy. I hear you. Come on, get up, you say, Time to start another day. Even he orders me around. Well, there’s one thing. They can’t order me to stop dreaming.”

Also, the primary lesson Cinderella teaches us is to never give up on our dreams. That as long we believe in them, they can come true. That is a beautiful moral that not just little girls, but everyone can take something away from.

And I’ve explained in another post how there is more to Cinderella than just marrying the prince.

Aurora may have spent most of her film asleep, but she was a little sassy, like with her fairy guardians (she was raised by three women, that’s pretty cool, right?) And she at least had some knowledge about stranger danger when first meeting the prince. It didn’t take long for him to charm her, but she did turn away and dismiss him at first. Also, she left Phillip when she needed to and set the terms for their next meeting. I think she deserves a little credit.

And let’s not forget Princess Eilonwy. She maneuvered through the Horned King’s castle and allowed Taran to team up with her so that they could escape. Also, when Taran made a sexist comment about girls, “what does a girl know about swords, anyway”, oh, boy Eilonwy set him straight.

I also talked about Ariel in that other post which I actually do recommend. But I’ll add a few points here, too. She went all kinds of adventures, including exploring sunken ships and escaping sharks. Many of these exploits of hers are shown in her prequel movie and in the 90′s TV show (and this was long before she met Eric, proving that he as her love interest, does not exclude her from being a capable heroine). Also, she is the one who saved Eric from drowning. And though she made a not entirely wise decision to run away from home and be on land, you at least have to give Ariel props for going after what she wanted, which is something the film makers made a full intent on making apparent (there was an interview from when the movie came out where this was mentioned, but I’m not quite sure where, but I’m sure the peeps that read this could find it if you’re interested :D).

Belle enjoys reading, even though that’s not what women usually did in her time period. She rejects the sexist, egotistical Gaston when he tries to flirt with her, insults her father (then later tries to incarcerate him if she doesn’t marry him) and tries to make her his “little wife”. She dreams of bigger and better things. She sacrifices herself for the sake of her father and later goes out to save him when he becomes ill. Belle does not take the Beast’s crap and even tries to leave when he explodes on her. When she gets attacked by wolves, she does defend herself and when the Beast saves her, she helps him back to the castle after he falls unconscious. She treats his wounds and sets him straight about his anger issues. Her patience and open-minded personality helps Beast slowly regain his humanity. And her love for him helps break the curse over him, his servants and the castle.

Jasmine also took charge. She refused to be forced into an arranged marriage and preferred to marry who she wanted and when she wanted. She did not like being stuck in the castle, and though, like Ariel, she wasn’t that wise in running away, she still took it upon herself to get somewhere. She did not put up with the men in the story deciding her future and called Aladdin out on his lies. Also, she has a pet tiger! That’s pretty freaking cool. Sure, she had to dress up for Jafar and kissed him as a distraction. But she used her beauty against the piggish (actually he’s rather horse-like) Jafar. And Jasmine has also displayed her resolve in the extended Aladdin media, too.

Pocahontas was just as adventurous as the last Disney princesses. She wanted more than to marry the stoic Kocoum. And, though wary, she managed to befriend John Smith and help open his mind to the beauty of the world and accepting people who aren’t the same as you. Colors of the Wind is a perfect summary of what Pocahontas teaches. Her wise, humanitarian ways stopped a conflict between her people and the Europeans. And although she cared very much about John, Pocahontas chose to stay and look after her family, friends and other peers.

Mulan knew that her father was too weak from a previous war injury to be drafted, so she took his place and became a soldier in the Chinese army. Yes, she had to pretend to be a man, but that’s just how it was in her time. Mulan trained and became a skilled fighter. With some help from her friends, she saved her country from invading Huns. ‘Nuff said.

Kida kicked some serious butt in her film (including punching Mole when he said some… things… in her ear) and she took responsibility for the sake of her people, like Pocahontas did.

Tiana worked very hard for what she dreamed of. She did not put up with Naveen’s selfish, narcissistic ways and taught him of what it meant to strive for something truly important in life (while he showed her that there is more to life than work, work, work). Though she could get down on herself, Tiana tried her hardest to obtain her dreams and in the end, refused to let people stop her (like those realtor guys). She become the owner of her own restaurant, just like she always wanted, and helped her late father’s dream become realized as well.

Rapunzel was trapped in a tower for her entire childhood. The reason why she didn’t try to escape is because Gothel pretended to be her mother and insisted that staying in there was for her own good. And being as sheltered as she was, Rapunzel believed her. But when she got her chance, Rapunzel made the decision to leave. She knocked Flynn out and tied him up and didn’t let him go until he agreed to help her see the floating lights like she always wanted to. On their journey, she faced pub thugs and a very intense horse and helped them reveal their better sides. She also did this with Flynn, bringing out Eugene Fitzherbert. Rapunzel used her extremely long hair as a valuable asset on her adventure with Eugene. She stood up to Gothel and was willing to sacrifice her freedom so that he would not have to die. And a tear, her care for him and sorrow over his death combined, brought Eugene back. And it appears that Rapunzel will go on many more adventures in Tangled: Before Ever After in 2017!

Merida loves archery, sword-wielding and horseback riding. She also is very good at those things. She’s very active and goes out to explore, even climbing a tall rock structure at the beginning of the film. Merida is a very capable Disney princess. She also, like Jasmine, does not like her future being chosen for, especially when it comes to marriage. She does make unwise decisions, like trying to give her mother a spell that will make her see things Merida’s way. And it takes her a while to take responsibility for her actions. But she learns to understand her mother better (and so does her mother with her), the two bond, and she does her best to break the curse she set and make everything right again. She learns to be diplomatic and maturely express her thoughts to the men at her castle. She defends her mother and bests her father in a sword match. All the while, Merida still retains her adventurous spirit.

Sofia is a wonderful role model for young girls and older audiences, as well. She helps those in need, even those who have done her wrong (though she doesn’t always forgive people that easily, like when Amber took her amulet and brought a curse on their home- though that was an accident, and Amber, too, is a testament to a character learning to be more responsible and open-minded). She changes the status quo and becomes the first female member of her school’s flying derby team. Sofia makes mistakes, but she learns from them. She goes on many adventures where she and her friends learn important lessons. She’s saved her family and friends numerous times, as well. Also, the film princesses appear every now and again to help bring the moral of the episode home.

Anna is just as adventurous as many of the others I’ve mentioned. And she certainly has good reason, spending her entire childhood behind castle walls, similar to Rapunzel in the tower. She is very brave, going after her sister in harsh winter weather, despite their estranged status. She enlists the help of Kristoff and Sven, treks up the mountain and also confronts the giant snow creature, Marshmallow. And she gave her life to save Elsa. Sure, she took things too far, too fast with Hans, but she was desperate for affection after all those years alone and like some of the other princesses, grew up sheltered from the world. Anna’s parents were dead and she believed that the only other family she had abandoned her. She learned her lesson with Hans, though. And, well, he got what he deserved.

Elsa isn’t a princess, she becomes a queen early on in her film, but Pocahontas and Mulan aren’t technical princesses, either (but they are in the official lineup). So, yeah, I’m going to include her, too. I can’t just have Anna and not Elsa. Elsa dealt with many problems after growing up thinking that her powers were a curse. But after she had some time to herself, she realized that her abilities were actually capable of wonderful feats. She bested Weselton’s goons and almost killed them before Hans intervened. And with Anna’s help, she overcame her fears and brought happiness to her kingdom. And she has been a great ruler ever since.

Elena is a princess learning to rule her kingdom as queen. She defended her family from a wicked sorceress and was stuck in Sofia’s amulet for a few decades. Once she was freed, she defeated the villain and now is becoming a capable monarch while also going on several daring adventures with her family and friends.

So, there is nothing wrong with considering Moana as a Disney princess (I also think it makes sense because she is a chief’s daughter like Pocahontas). She will display brave, empowering traits just like the other royalty before her. A princess can be a heroine just as much as a heroine can be princess. Those two things do not have to or need to be mutually exclusive. Disney has been proving that for decades and with the arrival of Moana this fall, I think we can see that it will continue on for many more years to come.

“I’ve never had any real friends.”
“I am not a prize to be won!”
“Hmm… I never realized how incredibly handsome you are.”

Nala

“So where are we going? It better not be any place dumb.”
“What made you come back?”
“So where are we really going?”
“What’s happened to you? You’re not the ___ I remember.”
“Hey genius, it was my idea.”

Pocahontas

“If you kill him/her, you’ll have to kill me too!”
“Look around you. This is where the path of hatred has brought us.”
“This is the path I choose, ___. What will yours be?”
“It would’ve been better if we never met. None of this would’ve happened.”
“I can’t leave you.”
“You think I’m an ignorant savage, and you’ve been so many places, I guess it must be so.”
“How can there be so much that you don’t know?”
“You have a most unusual name too.”
“I’m trying to help my people.”
“I don’t know what I can do, still I know I’ve got to try.”
“We don’t have to fight them! There must be a better way!”
“But maybe we should try talking to them.”
“But of one of them did want to talk, you would listen to him/her, wouldn’t you?”
“I never knew that fear and hate could be so strong.”
“I thought our love would be so beautiful.”
“Should I marry ___?”
“___ was just coming to protect me.”

Esmeralda

“I ask for nothing. I can get by. But I know so many less lucky than I.”
“You mistreat this poor boy/girl the same way you mistreat my people!”
“You speak of justice, yet you are cruel to those most in need of your help!”
“You’re lucky. That arrow almost pierced your heart.”
“Did you make all these things yourself?”
“How can such a cruel man raised someone someone like you?”
“Now you look at me. Do you think I’m evil?”
“You’re not hurt are you? Here, let’s see.”
“I know what you were ‘imagining’.”
“Alright, then I’ll come to see you.”
“You missed a spot?”
“Are you always this charming or am I just lucky?”
“You sneaky son of a…”

Meg

“Well you know how men are. They think ‘No’ means ‘Yes’ and ‘Get lost’ means ‘Take me, I’m yours.’”
“You wanted to be petty and dishonest?”
“How do you know what I’m like?”
“I’m a big touch girl. I tie my own sandals and everything.”
“People do crazy things… when they’re in love.”
“Sometimes it’s better to be alone. Nobody can hurt you.”
“Look, I learned my lesson, ok?”
“It looks better that way. No, it really does.”
“Are you always this articulate?”
“Read my lips – forget it!”
“You’re really choked up about this, aren’t ya?”
“I don’t care, I’m not going to help you hurt her/him!”
“This one’s different. (S)he’s strong, (s)he’s caring, (s)he would never do anything to hurt me…”
“What are you doing? Without your strength, you’ll be killed!”
“Look, I gave it my best shot, but (s)he made me an offer I had to refuse!”

Mulan

“Would you like to stay for dinner?”
“Stop. I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I’m just nervous. I’ve never done this before.”
“Look at me… I will never pass for a perfect bride?”
“Can it be I’m not meant to play this part?”
“Well, (s)he doesn’t talk about me much.”
“I never want to see a naked (wo)man again.”
“If you’re so worried, go stand watch.”
“You shouldn’t have to go!”
"Why else would I come back?”
“I don’t think I can do this.”
“Hey. I’ll hold him, and you punch!”
“Get off the roof, get off the roof, get off the roof!”

Jane

“Now, you stay away from me. Like a very good wild (wo)man.”
“You stay. I’m warning you… My ___ won’t take kind to you.”
“Now that’s close ENOUGH!”
“It’s a lovely heartbeat. It’s very nice.”
“You do speak? And all this time I thought you were this big, wild, quiet, silent, person-thing!
“Hmm! I mean, I must say I’m rather curious of who you are.”
“(S)he was this close to me, ___, just staring at me.”
“(S)he was confused at first, as if (s)he had never seen another ___ before.”

Chicha

“What do you mean the door’s stuck? Try jiggling the handle.”
“So, remind me again how you’re related to ___?”
“So what did the emperor want?”
“Well, that’s just rude!”
“No no no no. Emperor or no Emperor, it’s called common courtesy. If it were me, I’d march right back there and *demand* to see him. You know I would!”
“___, I’m fine. This baby’s not coming out for a while, but even if it was, I’d give that guy a piece of my mind. That kind of behavior just, just…”

“I’m late because I had to go to the store and get peanut butter ‘cause all we have is… is… stinkin’ tuna!”
“But if you want to leave, you can. I’ll remember you though.”
“I remember everyone that leaves.”
“You know, you wreck everything you touch. Why not try and make something for a change?”
“Oh good! My dog found the chainsaw!”
“No more caffeine for you.”
“Then why don’t you sell me and buy a rabbit instead?”
“This is your badness level. It’s unusually high for someone your size. We have to fix that.”
“You’ll like it 'cause it’s stinky like YOU!”
“A falling star… I call it! Get out, get out! I have to make a wish!”
“I hear you cry at night.”
“Do you dream about them?”
“I know that’s why you wreck things, and push me.”
“I need someone to be my friend. Someone who won’t run away. Maybe send me an angel! The nicest angel you have.”
“Did you ever kill anyone?”
“Our family’s little now, and we don’t have many toys… But if you want, you could be a part of it. You could be our baby, and we’d raise you to be good.”

“Okay, talk. I know you had something to do with this.”
“I think it might be a koala… an *evil* koala. I can’t even pet it! It keeps *staring* at me, like it’s gonna eat me!”

“Did you actually aim for that?”
“I mean that in a very caring way.”

Franny

“Just a little tip for the future, I am always right. Even when I’m wrong, I’m right.”

“Oh, but ___, it’s already happened…”

Mittens

“They pretend they’re going to always be there for you, and then one day they pack up and move away and take their love with them.”
“They leave her/him/me, wondering what she/he/I did wrong.”
“You - you came all the way back here… for me?”
“Yes, so if you want to keep it inside your body, where it belongs, you should stop jumping off trucks doing eighty on the interstate!”
“You know what that is, television? It’s entertainment for people. It’s fake! Nothing you think is real is real!”
“Yeah, go nuts. Let’s see how that works out for ya.”

Tiana

“Voodoo? You mean to tell me all this happened because you were messing with the Shadow Man?”
“It serves me right for wishing on stars. The ONLY way to get what you want in this world is through hard work.”
“My dream wouldn’t be complete… without you in it.”
“You’re a no-count, philandering, lazy bump on a log.”
“This stick in the mud has had to work two jobs her whole life while you’ve been sucking on a silver spoon chasing chambermaids around your - your ivory tower!”
“Oh… All my years. No one’s ever done anything like this for me.”
“I can’t hear you, I’m sorry. What?”

“Oh, very funny. So, what now? I reckon you want a kiss?”
“A prince/princess? But I didn’t wish for any…”
“(S)he was trying to propose. That’s what all that fumbling was about and here I thought, all (s)he wanted was to marry a rich girl/boy.”
“Just look at it, mama! Don’t it just make you wanna cry?”

Rapunzel

“Who are you, and how did you find me?”
“I’ve been looking out of a window for eighteen years, dreaming about what I might feel like when those lights rise in the sky. What if it’s not everything I dreamed it would be?”
“Well, that’s okay! I mean, what (s)he doesn’t know won’t kill him/her, right?”
“I’ve hidden it. Somewhere you’ll never find it.”

“Sorry! Just, don’t… don’t freak out.”
“I should have given it to you before, but I was scared. And the thing is, I’m not scared anymore. You know what I mean?”
“I’ve spent my entire life hiding from people who would use me for my power… when I should have been hiding - from YOU!”
“No! You were wrong about the world. And you were wrong about ME!”

Vanellope

“You could stay. You could have your own castle, where you can wreck and stink as much as you want, and no one would ever treat you badly ever again.”
“Why are your hands so freakishly big?”
“You really are a bad guy.”
“What? Speak up, I can’t hear you. Your breath is so bad it made my ears numb!”

“Everyone here says I’m just a mistake…”

“___, it’s not gonna work…”

“I understand if you don’t want to help me anymore.”
“It’s true love!”
“___, please! Please! I can’t live like this anymore!”
“What did I ever do to you?”
“No! Why? Why do you shut me out? Why do you shut the world out? What are you so afraid of?”
“All right, I’m just blocking you out because I gotta concentrate here.”
“Nobody wants to be alone. Except maybe you.”
“You kind of set off an eternal winter everywhere.”
“Please, I know you’re in there.”
“Just let me in.”
“What would you know about love? All you ever do is shut people out.”

Elsa

“The party is over. Close the gates.”
“I said enough!”
“Please, you’ll only make it worse!”

“it’s your word against yours. It’s called a hustle sweetheart. Boom.”
“What’re you going to do, kill me?”
“No! ___! Don’t do this! Fight it!”

why I’m anti cs

After seeing some posts about this, I wanted to explain why I’m anti-CS because maybe then I can stop thinking about it :)

I think CS a very unhealthy relationship and has really damaged Emma, a character who used to be strong and full of life now just seems broken and only cares about her boyfriend. I’ll try to demonstrate why I think that.

Obviously this is my point of view, if you like CS you see this differently. Other scenes are more important to you and/or you interpret it differently. I respect your opinion. I just wanted to express mine. I hope I don’t get hate for this :P

To understand what this is: This is not a deep analysis of the characters and their motivations. These are my feelings about scenes that stood out for me while watching. I was GA until mid season 4 since I wasn’t in the fandom and didn’t really ship anyone until then.

This is huge and has a lot of gifs with examples of scenes, so everything is under the cut

No history you say?

Hook, Captain Swan, and Emma in 4x15 “Poor Unfortunate Soul”

It’s been 19 episodes since we had our last Hook-centric and this one was well worth the wait.  We got it all: action, intrigue, romance … and wet Hook!  We were told that we were going to see Hook at his most pirate-y and we finally addressed something that the fandom has been speculating about since the idea of the author was introduced:

Flashback

I just realized that these two characters have the fewest amount of flashbacks of all the main cast (except maybe Belle… sorry girl) and yet they are both so well developed characters.  We finally get another glimpse into Hook’s past while he was a pirate and we learned a very valuable piece of information. Hook sailed in and out of Neverland acting as Pan’s delivery service. Did anyone else know this?  I think we all assumed that he was stuck in Neverland for hundreds of years but this is actually really interesting information.

Anyway, so Hook’s past with Ursula was very surprising to me.  I had fully prepared myself to be seeing a really awful side of Hook but in reality it was very true to character.  Hook went to great lengths and put himself at risk in order to help someone that needed it but when it came down to it his revenge was the most important thing to him.
