and all the monitors

godshipsit-personal replied to your post: So, watching the new trailer for 13.01, and I see…

you can still kind of see them, but they’re like lighter? almost white? maybe it’s this shot and the lighting, i dont know

Yeah, and I even turned up the brightness on my monitor all the way, thinking I couldn’t see the char because I keep the thing so dim… and saw the pale lines in the sand that roughly match up with what we saw in 12.23. Makes me wonder if sunrise made the marks fade? Or if it’s something we’ll see in the episode, or if that shot simply didn’t make it through the VFX department before the used the clip for the promo? Regardless, it’s still interesting to wonder about. :)

It’s time for today’s Hiveswap development team interview!

Hey there folks! We’re back with our next Hiveswap developer interview, right on schedule. This week we’re chatting with our animation director Angela Sham, who – as some of you may already be aware – was already creatively contributing to the Homestuck universe before she started working on Hiveswap. So let’s jump right in!

Introduce yourself to the fans! What is your specific role on the Hiveswap team?

Hullo!! My name’s Angela and I’m the animation director on Hiveswap. I’m responsible for overseeing the development of sprites, cutscenes, and basically anything that moves. Together with our lead animator Adrienne, I help to make the pictures go. I’m very lucky to be drift compatible with her.

When and how did you get your start on the Hiveswap project?

Two years ago What Pumpkin (WP) brought me on to animate Act 7, and then I transitioned into game work! Speaking of Act 7, you can check that out right here if you’d like.

Tell us a little bit about your career background! How did you get your start in animation? Do you have any advice for others looking to enter this field?

I didn’t ever expect to be an animator, to be honest. I didn’t go to school for art, and animation was a manic sort of hobby that helped me concentrate. When I graduated I decided to give it a shot as a career and happened to start freelancing for Sparkler Monthly, where another WP employee was also working, and that was when I joined the Homestuck team. My advice is, there is no one “right” way to enter the field, so draw what you want and put it out there. In my case, I drew fan art and a Homestuck fan animation called “A Lullaby for Gods,” and… here we are! In fact, you can watch “A Lullaby for Gods” right here if you’re so inclined.

We’re making a video game, so of course the question must be asked: what’s your favorite game of all time, and what games are you playing currently (if any)?

This is an impossible question; how could you ask me this!? You’re gonna have to settle for categories of favorite/influential games, including hits like I Cried for 50 Days (Shadow of the Colossus); Why Am I Doing This to Myself (God Hand); I Have a Mouth and It Is Screaming (Rule of Rose, Haunting Ground); I’m Just RPG Trash (Final Fantasy IX, Okami, Paper Mario, Kingdom Hearts); and Gitaroo-Man (Gitaroo-Man). I’m currently playing through NieR: Automata, and I drive around in Grand Theft Auto V when I really need to relax.

Are there any games that you currently use or have used as inspiration for your own animation work here on Hiveswap, or just in general?

Street Fighter III, BlazBlue, and Skullgirls for sure.

As an animator, you must have some favorite cartoons and/or anime – tell us about them!

Tekkonkinkreet was the film that made me want to animate. Something about it made me realize it was possible, that such an incredible thing was made by people, even though I grew up on a healthy diet of cartoons and anime. Some favorite cartoons include Hey Arnold! and Ed, Edd n Eddy, while Samurai Champloo and Escaflowne rank among my favorite anime. Animators who have been especially influential to me include Hiroyuki Imaishi, Yutaka Nakamura, Norio Matsumoto, and Sergio Pablos. I could talk all day about animation, so I’m gonna do you all a favor and head myself off at the pass.

What’s your workstation like? Do you like to listen to any particular kinds of music while you work? If so, tell us about it!

I work from home, so it gets very… uh… listen, there are a lot of snacks within arm’s reach, between my monitors and just a bit too close to all of my art books. Nobody should be told about this, let’s move on.

Favorite Homestuck character?

HMMM. The beta kids are nearest and dearest to my heart; I can’t rank them because they wouldn’t be great without each other. And their patron trolls. So I guess I have eight favorite characters, and are we only being asked impossible questions now.

Favorite Homestuck ship?

GUESS SO. In the early days, I was really ready for Karkat >3>John to happen, but after all these years, the long-buried ship that I think of every so often when I’m lying awake at night wondering where it all went is… Dave/Terezi.

Favorite Homestuck flash?

Lord. I’ve been going through flashes for like 40 minutes now, and this one is actually impossible. This isn’t an answer, but the first one I checked was Jade:Enter, then Jack:Ascend, then Descend, then Make Her Pay, then…

Do you have a personal message you’d like to relay to all the Homestuck and Hiveswap fans out there?

I know. You don’t think I know, but I know. I’m there too.

I think I need to see everything that’s not the inside of a hospital. I need to travel and explore and hike and breathe. I want to breathe it all in, away from the monitors, and the blood, and the sterile gowns. Away from saving other people’s lives, I want my own. It’s time I live my own.

Thank you for Stephanie Edwards, @jerrika

Big List of Fantroll Facts from Hiveswap

This is all pulled straight from the game with 0 (or attempted 0) bias from me or @peckonthecheek

We have both played the game so I can verify several things on the list. Most of the information comes from @peckonthecheek who exhaustively did everything in the game and recorded useful information.

If you want to add to this post, feel free to screenshot what you want to add and send it to me!

i’ve posted about 90 high-res screenshots of various places around skyhold, mostly focusing on solas’ rotunda and his murals, but with some detail shots also of dorian’s nook, vivienne’s nook, the inquisitor’s quarters, and the main hall (with the free marches decor).

feel free to use for any purpose idgaf. if you want to see something else let me know i don’t mind screencapping stuff. i have a complete collection so i can change the decor too.

props to bioware’s art department, there are so many gorgeous little details that most players will never ever see, like all the stained glass patterns. or for instance: did you ever notice those little mabari heads carved in the beam underneath solas’ desk? looks like it was made in ferelden.

A Performing Arts High School
  • Everyone makes fun of the Dance Majors because they all wear athletic clothes, and all kinda waddle.
  • The main campus monitor is a fat man that just drives around on his cart all day, yelling things at people. Not even angry things. Just things about Celine Dion and diets that are strictly bread.
  • The vice principle once had a conversation with me about sissy websites. I told him he should dress up and wear a tutu. He laughed.
  • Everything is always broken. There’s always something broken. Always.
  • The school is in the downtown area, and there are a LOT of homeless people around. Once a homeless man walked into the VD2 class and just yelled.
  • One homeless man killed himself on campus before school. School still went on that day, though.
  • The school has a sleepcam account, and an account dedicated to one of the pigeons that stay on campus. His name is Chad.
  • Everyone hates the band majors.
  • My art teacher asked our class to bring her dead birds, and like 3 people did.
  • There were like, 3 fires in one day. Fuckin theater tech majors, man.
  • There are a bunch of levels of basements to the main theater. A kid was rumored to have lost his hand at the bottom.
  • A kid was rumored to have died from falling from the catwalk in that same theater, actually.
  • The photo teacher doesn’t give a shit. About anything. She lets us roam campus all period as long as we tell her we’re shooting for a project.
  • Once during photo, me and my friend found some of the tech majors destroying a wooden end table with a hammer. Their eyes were glazed over. They let us hit the wooden end table, too. Fuckin tech majors, man.
  • No one questions the printed out pictures of Robbie Rotten in the hallways.
  • Once there was a fleshlight in the Fraiser building’s boy’s restroom. I didn’t realize till I peed on it. People took selfies with it.
  • All of the art majors are dead inside, some of them are on a lot of drugs, too.
  • Once someone broke a toilet off the floor in the girl’s art bathroom.
  • Everyone thinks the jazz majors are all on drugs.
  • Under the gym by the field is where a lot of the emos gather at lunch. It’s called the emo canopy.
  • Other schools in the city call our school LV-Gay instead of LVA. There are so many gays, yet no one stable enough to actually date.
  • There was a boy in the Ballroom one class that would just, stop every 15 minutes or so and do 10 push-ups. Every day. Without fail.
  • All of the film majors are horny. All the time.
  • No one knows what’s going on, ever.

“Those who would walk the path of the white mage are healers without peer, possessed of the power to deliver comrades from the direst of afflictions—even the icy grip of death itself.

only for today.

Pinkberry HCs

• Brooke is super super tech savvy. She was bored one preteen summer and checked out a book about coding at the library and picked up on it super fast and now she can hack into most basic-to-moderate mainframes/technology (the only person who knows abt it is chloe bc she’s seen all brooke’s computer monitors set up in her room)

• growing up, Chloe’s mom was big on having her know how to defend herself and enrolled her in karate classes. She took classes until she was 15 and got her brown belt & now takes kickboxing

• whenever they have sleepovers at Chloe’s house they sleep in her bed together because it’s a queen size and she doesn’t see the point in having one of them sleep on the floor. They tried to squeeze into Brooke’s twin a few times but gave up bc its just too uncomfortable

• slight continuation: whenever she sleeps at Brooke’s house, Chloe insists that she sleeps on the floor too because she doesn’t feel it’s fair to have one on the floor and one on the bed

• they made a pact that Chloe’ll pay for gas if Brooke pays for their tri-weekly yogurt  dates  sessions

• Brooke definitely listens to Taylor swift but like. Her older albums. Conversely, Chloe only listens to her more recent ones

• Chloe has a tendency to drift off into daydreams and Brooke finds it annoying sometimes because she’s more grounded in reality and can’t relate™

• Chloe writes exclusively in glitter gel pens. You know the ones

• Chloe takes French classes while Brooke takes Spanish and they often do each other’s homework with hilarious results

• when Brooke was younger she tried to write poetry and one day she digs up an old notebook to laugh at with Chloe but it turns out she finds it really interesting. Chloe winds up writing her own slam poetry and performs during poem night at the coffee store on the corner (she’s working up the courage to ask Brooke to come but most of them are about her so)

• Brooke loves astronomy. She’s had a telescope since she was 9 and can see the Big Dipper from her front porch & stargazing with chloe is her dream date

• best of all: they are Happy and Girlfriends in Love amen
