and a lot of all hail megatron

Here’s another of the 30th Anniversary Covers I did for last month’s TF books. I really REALLY wanted to pull off the G1 animated look here so I had great fun dropping away all the black lines to the background and painting it.

In cel animation often the backgrounds would be painted in a lot of texture and detail as they would last for whole scenes (and often be reused) while the objects designed to move would be more simply drawn and rendered as they would be drawn hundreds of times to cover the movement. Hence why Megs has the only black outlines on the page and why he pops forward on the page like a good ‘un.

Hope you managed to pick one up!

Hey so I've been wondering about the whole Perceptor/Drift thing. I've just read MTMTE up to issue 46 and I haven't seen them interact yet. Are they gonna appear in RID together, or did they appear in another comic? Ps: love your art. Hope you have a good day!

Ohhh shit alright it’s taking every part of my body not to get into a long monologue about how much I fucking love this ship, but yes, they’re from a different comic!

They first meet in Spotlight:Drift and also interact together in All Hail Megatron! I’ll be honest, there’s not a lot of interaction between them in AHM (but Spotlight:Drift is super important for the two of them) and it’s the kind of ship where their absence from the main action in general is kind of the fodder for the ship. Not that it doesn’t have basis, don’t get me wrong, there’s enough fun to be had!

So much fun

But yeah I am kinda sad that they don’t interact in MTMTE anymore. Drift says Percy’s name like… once. In the first chapter. That’s basically it.
They do have a history together and I would love for them to do things together again. I’m not saying this from a shipping point of view by the way, I don’t live in denial, I know they’re not canon, but I mean, I just want them to do something. Sit together in a lab. Say hi to each other in the hallway. Just something ;w;

But yes, that’s where they meet and interact! I hope this helps!

Thank you for your kind words, Lovely Anon, I’m glad you like my stuff!

Apologies, i should have clarified! Transformers! I'm newish to this all, and I downloaded the app recently but it's all very overwhelming and I don't know where to start!

Well, my lovely, welcome to the big wide world of comics!!
First of all, here’s the order of comics:
Megatron Origins
Autocracy
Monstrosity
Infiltration
Stormbringer
Escalation
Devastation
Maximum Dinobots
Drift Series
All Hail Megatron
The Transformers
Last Stand of the Wreckers **has ties to MTMTE**
Ironhide
Heart of Darkness
Death of Optimus Prime
More Than Meets the Eye (#1-22)
Robots in Disguise (#1-22)
Dark Cybertron (includes MTMTE and RID)
Windblade Series
More Than Meets the Eye (#28- ongoing)
Robots in Disguise (#28- ongoing)
**Spotlights can be read at anytime. They’re good one shots***
So that’s the basic order for reading the comics for the main continuity. I know it seems overwhelming but you can honestly start where you want to. I personally started with All Hail Megatron then moved onto Transformers, Death of Optimus Prime, MTMTE, RID, and so on. Then I went back and read all that I missed. If you wanted to start with the more recent stuff, I would surely read Death of Optimus Prime then move onto MTMTE and/or RID. If you just want to start off with a short series to get yourself started in comics, I suggest to start with the Drift series. I liked it a lot.
Sorry it took so long. I hope this helps!! If you have any other questions come and ask me!!

I honestly have no idea if this has been asked before but: I've recently discovered that Transformers had comics mostly based on a curiosity whim. What's the order of them in timeline/continuity?

There are quite a lot of Transformers comics! We’ll try to cover the broad spectrum of them here for you. All the major TF comics are their “own” continuities, not designed to fit into the timelines of the cartoons, but to tell their own distinct stories.

Back in the 80s through to the early 90s, there was the Marvel Comics The Transformers series, which lasted 80 issues. It was concurrently reprinted in the UK, where many additional stories were created that slotted into and around the events of the US stories.

In the early 2000s, now-defunct company Dreamwave Productions published several series. Their “Generation 1″ comics were a unique universe too, beginning as two mini-series before turning into an ongoing. The history of this universe was fleshed out through the “War Within” mini-series, exploring the early days of the war. Dreamwave also published Armada and Energon comic books, totally separate from their G1 stories, and also separate from the Armada and Energon cartoons.

The current holders of the license are IDW Publishing, who have been putting out comics for over ten years now. Their “core” continuity is a ground-up reimagining of the Generation 1 universe that has gone through four distinct “phases” - The “Ations” by Simon Furman (a collection of mini-series supplemented by one-shots), “All Hail Megatron” by Shane McCarthy, the 2009-2011 ongoing series by Mike Costa (again, supplemented by several mini-series), and the “present” era, which began with “Robots in Disguise” and More than Meets the Eye” by John Barber and James Roberts, and was later joined by “Windblade” by Mairghread Scott. These three titles have recently relaunched as “Optimus Prime,” “Lost Light,” and “Till All Are One” respectively. There are a lot of series, mini-series, and one-shots making up IDW’s continuity, and hopefully our articles on the company and their Transformers continuity will help keep them in order for you.

If you look at the IDW page you’ll also see that they’ve released several OTHER comics not connected to their core continuity, including a substantial series of “expanded universe” material centering on the live-action film series, and a handful of Beast Wars, Animated, and Prime tie-in titles, which - unlike the “mainline” comics put out by the various companies, DO tie-in with the continuities of their respective cartoons/films. Not so long ago, they also published “Regeneration One,” a continuation of the original Marvel comic by the classic comic’s creative team.

Outside of these three major examples, official comics have been published by various other small licensees around the world, probably most notably by 3H Enterprises and Fun Publications, the two companies who have been responsible for running the official Transformers convention and collector’s club.
