and a bunch of other characters like

classy-mantis-shrimp  asked:

Hi, I'm a huge Star Wars nerd but idk who Wedge Antilles is. Well I actually don't know a lot because I've only just like seen the movies and the first few episodes clone wars (I don't have Netflix anymore) I have a few books but then I have a bunch of other books to read. I also happen to be a Star Trek nerd so that takes up a lot of time to. So even though I went off topic can you tell me who Wedge is?

Sure thing!

^This is Wedge Antilles

Wedge is a character who first appears in A New Hope as a member of Red Squadron (Red Two, to be exact) and helps in the x-wing run to destroy the first Death Star. His x-wing gets hit during the fight and he has to retreat. He is the only member of Red Squadron other than Luke to survive the attack on the Death Star.

After A New Hope, he and Luke work together to create a new squadron of elite pilots named Rogue Squadron (presumably named after Rogue One) who fly in the Battle of Hoth. Wedge flies as Rogue Three in the squadron.

In Return of the Jedi, Wedge is part of the team with Lando Calrissian who destroy the second Death Star. In the special edition version of ROTJ, he can be seen hugging Luke on Endor at the rebel celebration.

He also appears in a lot of old EU/Legends books and comics as a BIG character who forms an elite squadron in the rebellion called the Wraiths.

In the new canon, his backstory has been changed slightly to be that he was once a TIE pilot for the Empire who defected to the rebellion. He’s been in a few episodes of Star Wars: Rebels

^There he is in Rebels! He is smol and full of angst!

Wedge has sort of been a cult favorite for fans since the original trilogy came out, and his adventures in the old EU are really popular. He’s often seen as one of Luke Skywalker’s best friends (possible romantic interest too, depending on who you ask).

The one really sad thing is that the actor who originally played Wedge, Dennis Lawson, has refused to reprise his role in the sequel trilogy, so at this point in the new canon we’re operating under the assumption that he has either retired or died.

Wedge is one of my favorite characters and I talk about him a lot on this blog because he’s just an ace pilot who gets the job done and isn’t looking for glory. Also, me and my friends like to make weird jokes and headcanons about him wearing leather pants in modern AUs or that his full name is actually Wedginald.

Hope that helps!

I’ve been listening around to a bunch of D&D podcasts because I require podcasts shoved in my brain at all times to live, and I’m really getting into Friends at the Table. Like, a lot of the other podcasts made me kind of uncomfortable with racist/sexist shit that they’d just throw out casually, but Friend at the Table seems to just Not do that!!! The DM is Black, there are women players, at least one trans player, and tons of gay characters.

I’m listening to COUNTER/Weight right now, which is their sci-fi Space Noir anime-y campaign that’s like cyberpunk but a lot more fun and goofy than cyberpunk tends to be. Not as well-edited as The Adventure Zone, but the characters and goofs are really solid. You should totes listen to it!

Why do people hate Jaune? I really don't get the hate. Some call him a self insert tutorial character, but I don't buy that. The setting of the entire first 3 volumes is a thrice damned school, where explanations about everything could easily be done at any point for viewer benefit. I for one applaud them for using Jaune instead of taking the easy way. As for Pyrrha, is it so wrong that she likes him? She doesn't want fame or fortune. She just wants someone to understand her.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, slow your roll, Anon! Where did I say that I hated Jaune? I don’t hate Jaune!

He is on the bottom rung of characters I kind of like to really love, and in front of him are a bunch of other characters that I favor, like Qrow, Ruby, Blake, Yang, Ren and Nora. I guess I am really underwhelmed by him all the damn time, and I find it really hard to like his character as he is now. I feel for him, and I get he probably has a lot of regrets about not pursuing Pyrrha, but…he’s not that interesting. Sorry.

I guess I never shipped them since Pyrrha was never a favorite either? She was an interesting character, and a complete badass, don’t get me wrong, but…meh. She was just never that interesting beyond ‘I’m on a pedestal and I want to get down’. I just never really fell in love with her character. I didn’t even cry/feel too upset when she died.

I was just always more interested in Ren and Nora. Sorry.

Also, why does it matter who I ship/don’t ship, like/don’t like? I thought that was a freedom I was allowed to have?

Please remember that these are my own opinions and they don’t affect yours or anyone else’s. I’m not trying to start anything, people.

Honestly?

No other show is going to make an impact on TV as much as The Legend of Korra. Like, go on, do your best. But having Korra – the main character, a tomboyish, bisexual, PoC who is mental ill and was physically disabled – end up with Asami – a beautiful, bisexual, saint of an heiress, who can kick ass despite losing both her parents, one of whom was a helping a bunch of terrorists – raised the bar so fucking high for both cartoons, tv shows, and even games when it comes to representation.

The 7 Elements of a SCENE

There are few things as soul-crushing in the writing process (at least to me) than getting a bunch of characters in a room with the intention of something happening, then the characters proceed to stand around and stare at each other.

Or worse, look at you like this.

My characters didn’t know why they were there. I didn’t know why they were there either. I had no clue what they were supposed to be doing, so I’d start throwing random instructions at them: “Fight, characters! You guys should fight now! Maybe fighting will make this event have a purpose!” Which inevitably resulted in characters going through the motions of battle for no apparent reason, like they had all lost their minds.

What was the problem? I didn’t know how to write a scene. I didn’t know what a scene was. I had a vague definition that it was something about changing scenery, or just “something happening”.

It’s not. And once I learned what a scene was, my characters got to stop pummeling each other, while wishing they could pummel me.

So what is a scene?

The definition of a scene is kind of like the definition of a story. Story is change, a massive change in the life of your main character. A scene is change too, but much smaller, and part of that huge story change. You couldn’t have the BIG change without these tiny changes. Thus, a scene is not switching scenery. It’s not flipping to a new Character’s POV. It’s one segment of change, which triggers the next change, which triggers the next, which gradually build into sequences, which build into Acts, which build into story.

So what goes into a scene? How does it work?

1. Alternating Charges

If a scene opens positive, it will turn negative by the end. If it opens negative, it will end positive. Simple.

2. Character Goals

Everybody in a scene wants something. If they don’t want anything, they shouldn’t be in the scene. And these characters, with their often opposing goals, are going to employ different tactics on each other to get what they want. Which creates …

3. Escalating Conflict

Conflict is created when one character wants one thing and another wants something else, right? So the characters in the scene are each pushing for something different, each new tactic increasing in determination. And what are these actions called?

4. Beats

The beats of a scene are exchanges of action and reaction. One character does something, another character reacts. All exchanges (beats) are pushing the scene onward, building tension and conflict, until finally …

5. Turns & Revelations

The scene turns. The positive has changed to negative. Something has been discovered. The story has spun in a new direction.

6. Connection to Story Objective

Every scene must be connected to the BIG goal of the story, the main character is taking small actions to reach that big goal. If it isn’t obviously connected to this big plot, it won’t make sense. Your reader won’t know why the heck they’re reading the scene. Which brings us to …

7. Logic & Necessity

Every scene must be necessary. It must be able to be linked with the previous scene. “Because that happened in the previous scene, THIS must happen in this scene.”

So! To see how that all works, let’s break down a scene from Tangled. (Because I used it in the last post to map out how a premise works, and my little writer heart can’t resist symmetry.)

Which scene? The one right after this happens:

Opening Charge: Positive. She’s realized everything.

Rapunzel’s Goal: Rise up against her mother – finally.

Gothel’s Goal: Regain control.

Escalating Conflict: They’re fighting over who controls Rapunzel, and this battle causes them to go from “mother and daughter” to “enemies”. The conflict builds nicely in this scene, causing the story turn.

Connection to Story Objective: Throughout the movie, the big thing Rapunzel wants is freedom, she wants her life to begin, she wants to have a new dream. This is the moment she figures out how to do that; it’s not escaping the tower, it’s escaping Gothel’s control over her.

So! Here’s the scene.

Beat 1

“Rapunzel? Rapunzel, what’s going on up there?”

Ignores her. Still processing the tremendous implications of this revelation.

Beat 2

“Are you alright?"

"I’m the lost princess.” (Dumbfounded. Almost whispering it to herself.)

Beat 3

“Oh, please speak up Rapunzel! You know how I hate the mumbling.” (Bullying.)

“I am the lost princess! Aren’t I?” (Fighting back. She will not be bullied anymore.)

Beat 4

Gothel stares, stunned. She’s rendered temporarily speechless, because her secret’s been revealed finally, and her victim is actually fighting against her.

“Did I mumble, Mother? Or should I even call you that?” (Accusing. Drawing herself up taller. Looking down on Gothel and glaring. She’s seeing her clearly for the first time in her life.)

Beat 5

After a pause, thinking up a tactic. “Oh, Rapunzel, do you even hear yourself? How could you ask such a ridiculous question?” (Laughs. Ridicules. Attempts to make her feel childish, dumb, worthy of being mocked. Tactics which have always worked. She even begins to hug her.)

Rapunzel pushes her. “It was you! It was all you!” (Still accusing and angry, but pain is beginning to show. It’s almost like she’s giving her a chance to explain herself.)

Beat 6

“Everything I did was to protect you.” (And Gothel doesn’t say anything redeeming. She’s holier than thou, regal, bestowing kindness on an ungrateful, stupid child. Trying to control through guilt.)

Rapunzel rams her out of the way.

Beat 7

“Rapunzel!” (Shouting. Now trying anger.)

“I’ve spent my entire life hiding from people who would use me for my power …” (Leaves her.)

Beat 8

"Rapunzel!” (Still trying the anger angle.)

“But I should have been hiding from you.” (Throwing the truth at her.)

Beat 9

“Where will you go? He won’t be there for you.” (She’s tried everything else. It’s time to attack her heart.)

“What did you do to him?” (Fear)

Beat 10

“That criminal is to be hanged for his crimes.” (She’s keeping up the disapproving mother act, but striking her right where it will hurt her most.)

“No.” (She’s stopped. Shrinking in on herself. Staring, horrified. And Gothel thinks she’s won.)

Beat 11

“Now, now.  It’s alright. Listen to me. All of this is as it should be.” She goes to pat Rapunzel’s head, a gesture symbolic of her superiority, her physical, mental, and emotional control over her victim.

Rapunzel grabs Gothel’s wrist. “No! You were wrong about the world. And you were wrong about me! And I will never let you use my hair again!"

Beat 12

Gothel wrenches free, stumbling backwards in shock and anger, breaking the mirror in the process.

Rapunzel walks away. She’s escaped Gothel emotionally now.

Beat 13

"You want me to be the bad guy? Fine. Now I’m the bad guy.” (Well, now emotional control is over. It’s time to start stabbing Rapunzel’s boyfriend.)

This action has no reaction, interestingly. It leaves us hanging, a cliffhanger created with only beats.

Closing Charge: Negative. She’s now a full-fledged villain, the motherly persona shed, and she’s determined to get what she wants whatever the cost.

Turn: It changed from positive to negative,  and now we’ve got a Flynn-stabbing witch to deal with.

Revelation: She’s always been evil. She has always been the bad guy. The motherly act was just that, an act.

Logic & Necessity: This scene fits with the previous scene, and the one that follows.

Though I’ve seen these concepts in many books, the place I first learned about it (and the best resource for scene design in my opinion) is the book Story by Robert McKee. It’s helped me countless times, is one of my favorite books on storytelling, and I highly recommend it if you write anything.

I realize that these definitions were a little vague, so I’ll be explaining things more thoroughly in subsequent posts.

Episodes in every American cartoon

- We got in a fight? Let’s split up the room/house with a line. That’s my half and that’s your half.
- Two characters accidentally swap bodies
- The musical episode
- It’s time to shrink really tiny and go into (other character) to solve their sickness!
- Character 1 and Character 2 are fighting for the affections of Character 3 (who probably does not like either of them)
- The background character-oriented episode
- Oh no! (Character) has made a bunch of clones of themself! We need to kill them all.
- The episode where a character gets successful/powerful/rich, becomes an asshole, then proceeds to ruin it all
- The birthday episode
- An episode that turns out to just be a dream
- A character dislikes a newly-introduced “adorable” character but nobody believes them until they eventually prove that the cute character is actually evil
- The “you saved my life”/lifedebt episode
- Holiday episodes
- The “how did the censors let them get away with this?” episode

So I’d like to talk a little bit about JJ.

I think most people have an opinion on this guy one way or another. And while this post isn’t meant to say that he isn’t an ass when he’s off the ice, I’d just like to talk a bit about his skating and where he gets his inspiration.

JJ after episode 8 was mostly seen as a very self-centered character but episode 9 showed an entire other side to his character that completely turned the tables. Unlike Chris who skates for no one other than himself, for JJ we got the scene in the above photos.

People may have seen the last shot and though “JJ is feeling like he isn’t getting enough love from the crowd and he’s just an attention seeker” but hear me out. Immediately before that sentence he dedicates his skating to a whole bunch of people. People who have supported him, inspired him, allowed him to chase his dream of skating.

I feel that JJ as a character is the embodiment of this concept:

JJ has been raised in a nurturing and loving environment and, unlike Yuuri, was much more aware of the love that existed around him. Instead of having that be a pressure however, he has used that to fuel himself.

So I believe that JJ’s line of “This isn’t enough love!” is not about him not receiving enough love, but that he isn’t giving enough love back. JJ may be an ass to his fellow competitors off the ice but he undoubtedly does not skate just for himself. He skates for all of his supporters as a way to pay them back for allowing him to chase his dream.

This show tackles many different forms of love and accepting the love of others and giving it back is a very beautiful concept to see in motion. Thank you JJ!

Review:

This book is amazing. I’ve been a fan of Historical Fiction for a while and never have I ever picked up a book that centres around China. I love how the author chooses to revolve the story around two boys. Li and Ming are the ideal duo to tell the tale of China’s ‘Great Leap Forward’. Their perspectives are so refreshing. The stories they tell are brutally honest and raw and it’s made me appreciate China and its culture even more.

Just like any other Historical Fiction, there are a bunch of references in the book and (I might be a tad bit bias here) but it feels great to read and actually understand the language that’s used in the book. In this case, the author includes Chinese characters and 'pinyins’ in the story to allow the readers to explore the minds of a true Chinese teen. This way, the readers not only learn as they read through the book, they get to understand the struggles that Ming and Li had to overcome and their journey as they advance from their lives on the fields to liberating freedom.

Ming and Li’s unlikely friendship is probably my favorite thing about this book. Literally nothing separates these two. Even in times where people are not to be trusted, no matter what, these two are always there for each other. It’s such a delight to watch these boys grow up together to become independent men despite being surrounded with danger and evil.

The ending tore my heart in two, but honestly it couldn’t have ended any better. Unlike most Historical Fiction novels, this one was light yet poignant. An intricate tale, but simple to follow through. Chim’s writing is mesmerising. The book is very small, but the author is able to construct a detailed, fictional piece of ancient history in about 200+ pages. Absolute brilliance.
Though it might be pretty short, I do find the book to be a bit passive at times. I would’ve finished this book in two sittings but it took me more than that because I had to put it down due to the lack of dynamics. But even so, the book was indeed truly enjoyable.

After reading this book, I now have this urge to pick up anything this author writes. Her writing is gets me so hooked! I’m in dire need of another Wai Chim original.

With that being said, do pick up this book! You don’t even have to be a fan of Historical Fiction. If you like coming of age stories, this book is it!

A huge thank you to Allen & Unwin for sending this book over in exchange for an honest review!

Dallas Margolin comes from a jewish family! Not really tight-knit, but he loves his mom a lot. His dad was a famous mlb player. Just like his dad, Dallas loves baseball. He plays with Malek and Poppy at his school! He has a really fleeting and somewhat sulky personality, He’s quiet most of the time, and he minds his own business. He finds it really hard to open up to people.

Malek has a very warm and welcoming attitude. He’s smart! He tutored Dallas at Math and he’s the only person who understands that Dallas can’t do well at class because he (Dallas) has dyscalculia. If their baseball team had a captain, it would be Malek. He plans to go to Cali for college. He loves camping and he’s going to be a major in bio.

Malek: rambling about analytical geometry

Dallas: *GALAXY EYES*

Malek: Dallas, are you listening?

Dallas: uhuh. Keep talking. (I really like your voice,)

Poppy’s full name is Ponnilai Rajkhowa. Her parents are immigrants, originally from India. Poppy is really over-protective when it comes to Dallas and Malek, it’s why she shifted from playing roller-derby to being the only girl on their baseball team. She has that kind of personality where at first she sounds like a really blunt jerk but she’s actually a huge sweetheart. She stands at 5′6, and she looks dainty, but she can sure pack a punch. She is a year below her friends.

Parker is a benchwarmer on the baseball team. He’s Originally from Manhattan. His full name is Jonas Nathaniel Parker, but that’s a mouthful, so most people just call him Parker. He’s very quiet, (even more so than Dallas) and he lives with his grandmother. If he wasn’t so introverted, He’d be popular like Malek. His favorite subject is geography. He’s mostly content with drifting and staying anonymous, always being talked over. He just wants highschool over with.

Sara is the new kid in town. She’s always looking stony, deadpan. After what happened to Malek, she joins the baseball team. She really likes fruit shakes and music. Sara is adopted, and there’s more to her than meets the eye.

Fluff & Angst

Request: Anon

Can you do relationship headcanons for the avengers? (Or if not all of them at least Scott and Pietro) thanks so much your blog and writings make me so happy darling!!

——————–

~Steve Roger Headcanons~

  • Huge cuddle monster, especially on his days off he won’t let you out of his arms (even if you’re needed for missions)
  • When both of you have to work he’ll be the first out of bed and will always make you your coffee
  • Whenever you’re baking sweets he likes to stick his fingers in the batter and eat it (he’s a super soldier, raw eggs can’t hurt him)
  • Whenever you’re deeply invested in doing something Steve likes to draw you. He especially likes to draw your eyes, they always show a passionate fire
  • When either of you have a mission to go do and you’re not together, both you and Steve made it a tradition to make each other lists on what you love about each other
  • When both you and Steve have missions together he always makes you carry band aids on you. He knows it’s somewhat silly but it makes him feel better
  • After missions it’s another tradition you both do, you guys take a bath together. He’d clean you while you express all of your worries and frustrations from the mission
  • Then you do the exact same for him (he sometimes gets super emotional from major missions because his mind always went back to Bucky)
  • Steve has PTSD, and when he starts to show his symptoms even more you’re always right by his side, trying to calm him down. Unlike Tony he needs to know that you’re actually there, he’s terrified of the thought of you disappearing from him like Bucky did. And as much as he hates to admit it, he can’t lose you like he did Peggy. You know that and you also know that he truly does love you
  • Whenever his PTSD gets to be too much you take him to your guy’s bedroom and lay him down, you had asked Tony to install a dimming light switch (which helps in times like this). You make sure he’s only able to hear your voice, no loud noises or bright flashes for they could bring him all back down and make him think he’s in the war again
  • When both you and Steve fight you always let him have the last word. As much as you’d want to argue back you realize how hard is must be for him to even be fighting with you
  • Sometimes when the fighting goes too far and either of you say something too harsh you both go to your hideaways. And while hiding both of you think of ways on how to apologize to each other
  • Both of you hide for exactly 3 hours. And when you both find each other it’s filled with regretful tears and loving words. In your guy’s relationship, both of you apologize, not just one
  • At the end of the day, mission or no mission, fighting or not- you and Steve always fall asleep in each others arms, whispering, “I love you.”

~Tony Stark Headcanons~

  • He loves to spoil you. You’re always against it though (you tell him to just donate his money)
  • He also tries to get you to wear one of his Iron Man suits (he’s even made you your own Iron Man suit!)
  • Tony doesn’t seem like a huge touchy-feely guy but when the mood strikes him he’ll pull you from whatever you’re doing and cuddle you
  • During those choice cuddle sessions he sometimes is the little spoon (He had admitted it while you guys were cuddling that he loved being the little spoon. But if you were to tell anyone that he’d of course deny it)
  • Tony doesn’t like to fight with you. Like at all, he’s had too much fighting in his life already (and being an Avenger doesn’t make it any better) and you’re the one person he never wants to fight with
  • Sometimes when he falls asleep in the lab you go down to drag his butt to a nearby couch. And you stay with him throughout the whole night (you didn’t care if your body was going to hurt in the morning, he’d do the same for you)
  • Whenever Tony has a panic attack you always bring him to the biggest window overlooking the city and make him a cup of tea. He doesn’t like being touched when having the attack so you always ask J.A.R.V.I.S everyday to keep a dryer running to keep your blankets warm (Tony wants the warmth of someone during the attacks but like he said, he doesn’t like to be touched during them) You’ll wrap him up in the blanket and sit with him for hours. Wether it was to listen to him talk or just hear him breathe. You’ll remind him every few minutes to breathe in and out or to drink his tea so he doesn’t start to panic again
  • Once Tony is calmed back down from his attacks he’ll slowly scoot himself over to you (he has to test the waters to see if he’s comfortable with being touched) if he’s comfortable with it he’ll raise your arm and cuddle into your side. You’ll then sit there and softly comb your fingers through his hair
  • During most days he’ll play classic rock through the com-system and if a slow song comes on and you’re in the vicinity he’ll whisk you off your feet to a clear area and dance with you (sometimes when dancing his hands will ‘accidentally’ slip down to your butt and you’ll then ‘accidentally’ drop your foot harshly on his)
  • After a hard day at work when both of you meet up back at the bedroom you both always make it a big deal to say “I love you” before you all asleep and after you wake up

~Natasha Romanoff Headcanons~

  • She’s not one to really express (physically mostly, sometimes verbally too) her emotions to anyone (she’s secretly scared that someone will use her emotions against her and somehow hurt you)
  • You always reassure her though that she doesn’t have to do anything that makes her feel in anyway uncomfortable. You also always reassure her that you do know that she loves you
  • On her free days from missions she always does two things:
  1. She shows you moves on how to defend yourself and how to take down your attacker (you work for SHIELD and you do know how to defend yourself but you let Nat teach you anyway- it makes her feel better)
  2. She will shut all of the blinds and lock every door and then she’ll show you just how much she loves you
  • Nat doesn’t like to cook so you’re always the one cooking. You don’t mind one bit to be honest. She does so much for you already and you’re happy to do this for her
  • Even though she doesn’t necessarily show/express her feelings for you everyday, she could never turn down an opportunity to cuddle you
  • She likes to be both the big spoon and the little spoon. But her favorite cuddle position is when she’s able to look at you. She likes to point out everything she loves about to herself while you relax in her arms
  • EVERYONE THOUGHT SHE WAS STRAIGHT UNTIL THEY FOUND YOU TWO MAKING OUT ON THE COMMON ROOM COUCH
  • Whenever Nat has to go on a mission you always pack her a lunch. She doesn’t care what the others think because they know that if they joke her about the packed lunch… she could easily kill them with so said packed lunch (Tony had a hard time getting all of the banana out of his ear that week)
  • When you’re the one with the mission instead, you make a week’s worth of breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for Nat. Your homemade cooking always gives her comfort when you’re gone.
  • This goes for the both of you, when either of you come back from a mission injured to hell and back the other takes care of the other’s injuries and cleans them up
  • Whenever she’s too tired to clean her guns after missions, you’re the one to clean them for her
  • She’s the one to kill the bugs (but she of course lets go of the spiders outside)

~Clint Barton Headcanons~

  • Clint is always cranky without his morning coffee, so before he wakes up you make a full pot of it for just him
  • You got him this gag gift for Christmas a while back- it was a giant coffee mug that could hold up to a gallon of liquids… he uses it every morning
  • Clint is partially deaf so you had taught yourself sign language for him (it’s helpful too when you want to tease him in front of The Avengers)
  • Everyone gets super frustrated when you and Clint sign to each other in front of them. It’s especially frustrating when either of you laugh suddenly
  • The first time you told him you loved him you had used sign language to tell him (he cried)
  • Before you guys started dating he would hide up in the vent and rafters and watch you (you knew he was there always hiding but you knew he was just trying to figure out your character)
  • You had finally gotten tired of his hiding so one day you asked Nat to meet you in the common room (you knew he was going to be there so before he could get to his usual hiding spot in the room, you climbed up there and waited for him. When he finally showed up you had almost fell out of the rafter from laughing at his shocked reaction. Clint asked you out right then and there, you of course said yes)
  • Clint always complains about not having enough arrows so for his birthday every year, you get him just that, arrows. (you always have a theme for the arrows, last year’s theme was Hello Kitty)
  • For being an Avenger, Clint loves junk food. So every time you go to the grocery store he has to tag along.
  • And for being a master assassin, he’s not very sneaky about all of the treats he puts in the cart. And whenever he thinks you caught him he’d give you the most innocent look, you’d then roll your eyes, and then the innocent look is replaced with a shit eating grin
  • In your phone his contact name changes every month from: “Bird Boy”, “Lil Shit”, “Princess”, and your favorite, “Lil Shit Princess”
  • He’s the master of building forts, everyone will agree with you on it
  • You two fight about the silliest of things, and when he feels as if he lost during the petty argument he goes to sulk up in the vents
  • The only way you found out how to get him out of the vents is to yell about his favorite show being on
  • Or to yell out that you’re about to drink the last bit of his coffee (it’s always interchangeable)

~Bruce Banner Headcanons~

  • Bruce loves to show you his research. It could be either his old research or new, he has to it all to you
  • He loves to watch you read his research too, you always have a proud look on your face
  • Bruce also always asks for your input on his ideas and projects. He always wants to know if you think his projects are safe/good ideas
  • Like Clint, he would hide from you before you guys started dating
  • Before dating Bruce he would spend even more time in the lab. He was investing himself in trying to find a cure for his “Big Green Problem” as he would put it
  • The only reason for him researching it even more is because he wanted you to not think of him as a monster, but as just some regular guy
  • One day when he thought everyone was gone he finally had left his lab (even in the beginning of the relationship you were always curious of what he does in the lab). You snuck in to see why he’s been in there whenever you were over. Bruce came back and saw you in tears, you had found out why.
  • Lets just say Bruce has never felt so terrified and in love after the lecture you gave him
  • Bruce doesn’t like to talk about it but you were able to convince him into seeing a therapist
  • You always wait for him during his sessions (and for when he wants you back there for him, you always rush to him and hold his hands)
  • And after therapy sessions you both always go get ice cream (his favorite is pistachio, ironic isn’t it)
  • It took a long time for Bruce to show you any type of physical affection, but when he finally did, he was the most loving boyfriend anyone could ask for
  • Whenever Bruce meditates you always join him, no matter what time it is. Unless you’re really needed somewhere else, if that’s case then you leave a cup of tea next to him
  • As much as Bruce love peace and quiet, you had made him a playlist of soothing classical music for when he’s in the lab
  • You actually made tons of different playlists for him when certain emotions hit him (his favorite is called “Calming the Big Green Babe” he finds it funny)
  • He totally cried during Marley & Me

~Thor Odinson Headcanons~

  • First things first, he may be a God from another part of the universe but he’s a huge fucking nerd
  • While you were showing him Earth’s modern entertainments, he had stumbled across the Star Wars movies (big mistake)
  • Whenever it’s his turn during movie night at The Avengers tower he always and you mean always requests for the Star Wars movies
  • Everyone blames you
  • You never understood his obsession with Poptarts
  • But you always stock up at least one cabinet in the kitchen with the artificial treat (it’s always gone within three days)
  • Speaking of the kitchen, during your first few months of living together you had to keep your good china dishes hidden from Thor so he wouldn’t smash them
  • But! You do keep thrifted dishes in a separate place so both you and Thor can smash them for whenever you both want to celebrate
  • Thor never likes to be the little spoon. And if you were to even joke him about trying to be the little spoon for once he’ll always answer with, “I am the might Thor! I must be the big spoon my love!” He just doesn’t want to crush you
  • He’s also very dramatic (you blame it on his Asgardian culture) but you find it charming to be honest
  • He can get very homesick sometimes but he knows he can’t leave at times because The Avengers might need his help
  • When he does get homesick, you drape on your guy’s bed sheets and try, keyword try, to do an Asgardian accent. It always manages to bring a smile on his face. And if you got super close to doing the accent he’s proud laughter will boom throughout the room (they don’t call him the God of thunder for nothing)
  • If Thor has the chance to go back to Asgard, he will every time ask you if you wanted to come along (you of course always said yes)
  • Whenever you both are in Asgard and someone asks who you are, Thor without fail will pull you into his side and answer with, “My Queen.”
  • And it always ends with you laughing at him

This alone has taken me two days to do, please forgive me if I don’t get out the other part the same day as this posts or even the next. I’m only one little nerdling <3

I feel like magic is defined by how open a person’s mind is, in Star vs.

Which is why characters like Queen Eclipsa- who fled Mewni with a monster lover- and Star herself- who is a godparent to a group of tadpole monsters, has dated a demon, and found friendship with a bunch of alternative monsters- are so much more powerful than the others, while Moon is somehow weaker, despite 40+ years of learning and plenty of practice and using it in a friggin WAR.

Which is why Queen Eclipsa and Star both are worried and feared by the rest in her family- they can break free from the line they’ve dug into the ground, and it’s because they’re willing to learn.

Damn, Horikoshi. So I’ve been trying to find this article for a while because seeing ‘mountain climbing’ on Kacchan’s profile immediately reminded me of it; the whole thing is interesting but here are the relevant parts:

As Matthew Barlow, a postdoctoral researcher in sports psychology at Bangor University, Wales, puts it: “Climbing something like Everest is boring, toilsome and about as far from an adrenaline rush as you can get.”

A climber himself, Barlow suspected that sensation-seeking theory has long been misapplied to mountaineers. His research suggests that, compared to other athletes, mountaineers tend to possess an exaggerated “expectancy of agency”. In other words, they crave a feeling of control over their lives. Because the complexities of modern life defy such control, they are forced to seek agency elsewhere. As Barlow explains: “To demonstrate that I have influence over my life, I might go into an environment that is incredibly difficult to control – like the high mountains.”

Flirting with mortality, in other words, is part of the appeal. “If you can escape death or dodge fatal accidents, it allows you the illusion of heroism, even though I don’t think it’s truly heroic,” says David Roberts, a mountaineer, journalist and author based in Massachusetts. “It’s not like playing poker where the worst that could happen is you lose some money. The stakes are ultimate ones.”

Barlow and colleagues also found that mountaineers believe that they struggle emotionally, especially when it came to loving partner relationships. They may compensate for this by becoming experts at dealing with emotions in another, more straightforwardly terrifying realm. “The emotional anxiety of everyday life is confusing, ambiguous and diffuse, and you don’t know the source of it,” Barlow says. “In the mountains, the emotion is fear, and the source is clear: if I fall, I die.”

hi! I love your art! I was wondering if you could make a tutorial on how to add variety to drawing characters. all my characters look like carbon copies of each other with different hairstyles. thanks!

I wish I could make an extensive tutorial about this but tbh I’m not an expert on the subject. I’ll try to give you some written tips though!

I think the main reason why lots of people have problems with variety is the fear (sometimes subconscious) of making your character look ‘ugly’.

First of all, something I’d recommend doing this, but instead of trying to achieve the ‘perfect face’, try doing a bunch of different ones and keep them! Also, here’s some actual tutorials to help you out (x) (x)

One very good exercise is drawing your friends, trying to capture their main features. Maybe their face is very long? They have big lips? Small eyes? This is amazing for lots of reasons because:

-you’ll practice a lot
-you don’t need to bother with lineart
-by staring at their photos for so long, you’ll see how different real humans look and you can use such features for your characters
-you can show it to them if you’re satisfied!!

I’d also recommend to look at how your favourite artists draw faces and specific features, you can definetely take some of them and merge them in your style!

This wasn’t much of a tutorial but I hope it was helpful nonetheless! Thank you for the compliments and have a good day!
