In 1984, William Steig told @npr‘s Susan Stamberg that cartooning would not be needed in a perfect world, “because in a perfect world, people would not be that ridiculous.” William Steig was a @newyorker contributor for 73 years, creating 121 covers and 1,676 drawings. He was also a children’s book author and illustrator who celebrated the ridiculous and otherwise in his books, including The Amazing Bone, Amos & Boris and Shrek!
