**THIS IS A SURPRISE FOR THE RECIPIENT. IF YOU KNOW HIM, PLEASE KEEP IT A SURPRISE**
I’m tremendously excited to announce the release of ‘Time Contraption’. This clock will be presented to the soon-to-be President of the American Welding Society by his loving family in honor of his inauguration in November at the FABTECH expo in Atlanta, Georgia.
The global theme of Time Contraption revolves around the world of welding and fabrication to include, but not limited to…freightliners (18 wheelers), trains, heavy equipment (cranes, earth movers, etc.), ships and port machines, automobiles, motorcycles, aircraft, engines (diesel, gasoline…), transmissions, and pipelines. All of these tools and products of welding and fabrication “inspire the world forward”, and I felt appropriate to include them in the design as the quote belongs to the American Welding Society. I hope you feel the character of this piece to be a mix of Dr. Seuss, Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, and ‘steampunk‘. All coloring is natural (brushed, abraded, and/or torched) and clear coated to endure. To continue good fortune for Mr. President, I welded a piece of horseshoe to one of the sockets on the underside of the base. It’s rather ironic to watch the clock hands go around silently considering the overall appearance and power tool loudness required for completion. The time put into this werk is somewhere well above 45 hours; I stopped counting before finished over a week ago.
So very thankful for the honor, opportunity, and trust to have built this for the recipient and occasion, I hope Time Contraption brings happiness to the inbound AWS President and his family.
A very special ‘thanks’ to Mamma Elf for her support of my many late nights, and these amazing photos!
p.s. Please keep this a surprise :)
