This week’s experimental film class was all about Stan Brakhage, focusing on Mothlight. It’s a pretty interesting film; he had gathered the wings of dead moths along with grass, flowers, and other flora and pressed them between two clear leader strips. The idea came to him during a time of depression and he noticed moths flying dangerously close to the flame of a candle and burning themselves.
