always with the stripes

In the middle of 1950s Tove was very, very lonely. Her letters of that time are melancholy, as she desperately yearned for true love. By this time she was very interested in dating women (as to her, Atos Wirtanen was in a way the last man she wanted to love). But circles were small in a small town, where homosexual acts were both a disease and illegal.

It was 1955, when Tove met Tuulikki Pietilä. They knew each other vaguely by looks. They had attended Ateneum’s art school at the same time but Tuulikki was few years younger and usually students spent time with their own language group (Tove spoke Swedish, Tuulikki Finnish).

The love story which lasted until their deaths, almost half a century began at Pikkujoulu party (”Little Christmas” in Finnish, a party traditionally held in anticipation on Christmas, usually among coworkers or friends) arranged by Finnish art society. Tove asked Tuulikki to dance, but she declined - probably out of propriety. But later Tuulikki sent Tove a card picturing a striped cat and asked her to visit her atelier.

Next summer Tuulikki visited Tove at an island. Love was born. Tove wrote; “I have finally come home to that one person whom I want to be with”. The picture of a striped cat was always and still is on the wall of Tove’s atelier. The couple spent their summers together on an island and winters working in their ateliers, which were right next door from each other.

It can be said that Tuulikki saved Moominvalley. By the time they began their relationship, Tove was absolutely tired of Moomins. Tuulikki’s support restored Tove’s belief in Moomins and they became an important hobby to them both.

Moomin book Moominland Midwinter (1957) is a book about loving and falling in love with Tuulikki. And it really shows. In the book, Moomintroll (who is an avatar of Tove Jansson) wakes up in the middle of unfamiliar and eerie winter, facing loneliness and death for the first time. In the middle of all cold and silence Moomintroll finds Too-Ticky, who’s calmly watching a snow lantern. Too-Ticky is robust and strong with blonde hair and a knife at her hip; everything Tuulikki was.

Too-Ticky becomes Moomintroll’s calm and supportive mentor. She never gives ready answers and instead gently guides Moomintroll as he grows and learns. It is Too-Ticky who says the phrase which Tove repeated often in her interviews and which was seemingly one of her most important philophies: “Everything is insecure and that makes me calm”.

After Tuulikki’s first visit Tove wrote; “I love you both enchanted and very calm at the same time, and I don’t fear anything that might await us”. After finding Tuulikki, Tove described how much calmer and safer she felt. Whole living felt easier.

cute but subtle ways to dress little!
  • PATTERNED SOCKS!! Whether they’re cute animals, or little drawings, or just pretty colours, they’re bound to make you feel little! No-one will notice them unless you pull them up high.
  • Overalls! Wear them over t shirts, sweaters, anything! They’re actually pretty fashionable at the moment, and they work for all genders :)
  • Headbands and bows! I’m in love with headbands right now - I have a collection of adorable headbands, some of them are plain, but some have little bows and flowers, 10/10 would recommend. Also, hair clips and barrettes are awesome!
  • Ribbons! You could tie them into your hair, around your braids or ponytails, or even into your braids - it looks super cool! And there are bAJILLIONS of colours and designs, you can get them from dollarama for basically no money!
  • Some more things you can do with ribbons: tie them around your wrist to make a cute bracelet! You can also replace your shoelaces with your favourite ribbons to spice them up a little.
  • LOTS OF COLOURS! Just mix and match, throw in the entire rainbow into your outfit if you wanna!
  • Hairstyles: if you have long hair, you can try out fun things like pigtails and braids!
  • If you shop online or go to places like gap kids, you can find kiddie clothes that are big enough to fit you! You can find things like cuddly shirts or sweaters with bright colours and cute drawings, or character t-shirts, and it’ll just look cute, not necessarily kiddy!
  • Cute little accessories! For example, I have some cute ear muffs for the winter that are super fluffy and have little panda bear faces on them! You can get gloves and earbuds like this too!
  • Funky tights! i have some rainbow striped ones that i always wear with skirts and it makes me feel super little! You can get ones with patters and stars and hearts and designs that look amazing! You can also do this with leggings.
  • Sparkly nail polish!
  • Heelies or light up sneakers, if you wanna!
  • Do you remember sillybands? Well you can still get them online for barely any money, and they look so cute! When you’re wearing them, they just look like colourful elastic bands, so it’s not super obvious
  • if you’re carrying a bag with you, decorate it with stickers and buttons and keychains! You can make it all pretty and jingly :)

I hope you find these helpful!! I’ll be posting similar posts this week :)

I always love Ice views from Iceland - all those dark stripes are volcanic ash that got included in glaciers during eruptions.

My own small contribution to the Pulse anniversary. The single star represents the one person who was thought dead, but pulled through, leaving the number killed that night 49. All the other stars have been extinguished.

Our Pride as LGBT+ Americans is inextricably tied to the fear of what one man with a gun can do. Until the laws change, the red stripe on our flag will always threaten to drown the rest.

I haven't had a crush in a couple of years, but I remember I used to have a crush on this guy. He was pretty short, always wore the same black jacket with yellow stripes. He had compassion, really stood up for what he believed in. He was ahead of our time, he never really fit in, ya know? He didn't want to go into the family business like I did- we were cousins. He completely forgot about me when he ran away with a florist and sued the human race.

Uhm!!! Can you please guide me into the evangelion fandom? I.. ive been wanting to join the fandom for years but idk where to start and was too embarrassed to ask for some help back then... But i still want to join the fandom!! So.. please..?><;;;

yes yes yes, absolutely, dear!! Well, for starters, welcome! to me, you’re already in!
okay, let’s see. Evangelion is a really complex and wide franchise, and the confusion on where to start is really common.
i’ll tell you what i personally did, which is widely the preferred order of watching/reading.

first, the original anime series. It’s 26 episodes, you can find it easily on streaming sites such as gogoanime. Episodes 21-24 also have a version called “director’s cut” which are different from the on air version because there are some scenes that on-air have been cut. If you can’t find them anywhere, here you can find the transcripts of the added scenes. Alternatively, you can watch Death & Rebirth, which is basically a montage of everything that was already in the anime plus the added scenes (me being really dedicated I watched that too, but it’s entirely up to you since most are repeated scenes that you’ll have already seen)

second, the End of Evangelion, which is an alternative ending in place of episodes 25/26. This is fundamental, please don’t skip it, I promise it will clear most of your doubts on the anime ending.

then, you pass to the Rebuild of Evangelion. There are three movies published, as of now, and there’s a fourth to be released (hopely in time for me to be still alive cough). They’re a retelling of the original story, with added characters and a promised different ending. In fact, already in 3.0 the plot moves on a different time after the End of Evangelion.

Lastly, the manga. It’s significantly different than the anime, but it’s in my opinion still worth a read, especially if you liked the characters. The ending is also very different!!!!!

next, we wait for 4.0 to be released.

tl;dr: original 26 episodes of the anime series (21-24 director’s cut possibly) > end of evangelion > rebuild > manga

every one of these is easily reachable on online streaming/scanlations sites. either way, if you ever find yourself in trouble, don’t hesitate to contact me and I will do my best to help! I hope this was clear (despite evangelion itself being sometimes really far from clear), and I hope you don’t mind me publishing this in case someone needed help with the same things.

And again, welcome in the family!!! Evangelion is really, really worth it. I can honestly say it shaped me as a person. Please come scream at me about it whenever you want, it would make me really happy!!!!!!!!

Mike buying El roses on their first Valentine’s day together—pink and white ones—but over the course of the next year, realizing that she loves tulips more than any other flower. Tulips—pink, white, and purple—become a new Valentine’s Day tradition.

El and Mike bursting into fits of uncontrollable laughter when they exchange cards and realize, for the third year in a row, they’ve gotten each other the exact same one, entirely by accident.

Future Mike custom-ordering candy hearts with little messages for El.

Future El custom-ordering M&M’s for Mike (his favourite chocolate) so that some have tiny Ms and others have tiny Es printed on them.

Mike and El taking turns planning out their Valentine’s Day dates each year until they’re in their twenties and they much prefer to stay home, snuggled up in a blanket fort of their own design, with a heart-shaped pizza they ordered from the local pizzeria.

El always wears a pink dress on Valentine’s day. Mike always wears a red striped shirt. It’s a little tradition, but it’s their favourite.

“You wanna go out?”

Jeff stared. Surely he heard that wrong. “What?”

“Out,” Kent said, in a tone that implied he was being patient. “Do you want to go?”

“Uh –” Kent never asked anyone to go out first. Maybe he wanted to start their second season off differently? “Who else is going?”

Oh. Kent was asking Jeff to go somewhere with him personally, not as a part of a group. Jeff took another breath. “Uh, yeah, man. Where do you wanna go?” There were tons of places to choose from – it was Vegas, after all. Jeff had gone to quite a few with some of the other guys, though he couldn’t say he’d ever gotten out on the floor much.

“Dancing,” Kent said. “I don’t care where, really.” When Jeff opened his mouth, Kent raised a hand. “Scratch that. I do care. No country.”

maybe one with pregnant reader and tom and how he acts if we're sticking with this tom and haz with kids theme

Tom told you every day how beautiful you looked, he had always done it. But on those days you were feeling down, not liking how this second pregnancy was making you look, Tom made sure you saw yourself from his perspective. When you sat, slouched over and glaring at your growing belly, Tom would sit with you, reminding you over and over again how amazing you were, “You’re carrying life,” he would whisper, gentle hands laying on your stomach, “you’re bringing another human being into this world.” He would lean down and kiss the baby, giggling when the baby kicked back. When you stood in the mirror, hating how swollen you looked, Tom would stand behind you, arms at your hips as he kissed across your shoulder blade. “There’s my beautiful bride,” he’d mumble between kisses, looking back at you through the mirror. If you cried because you couldn’t put on your favourite shirt, Tom would simply take off his, Alexander also going topless. He would say that “a family who’s topless together, stays together,” as he kisses your cheeks.
