New Music Faves

New music is always my favorite kind of music, so here’s all that you might have missed in this past week:

- Halsey just announced her new album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom which she said is coming out this June. Badlands was amazing, so let’s see if this one is just as good or hopefully better.

-Lorde released another new single Liability. If you like slower piano songs, you’ll love this. It’s a good song, but i prefer Green Light.

-Alt-J released their new song 3WW. I haven’t completely listened to it yet, but let me know if it’s good guys.

-Charli XCX released an album??? Wow was not expecting that. Let me know what you guys think about it.

-New Politics, my original indie babes, just released a new single One of Us! I love them and this song is amazing.

-Some other note worthy arrivals are COIN’s Malibu 1992, Fickle Friends’ Hello Hello, Fleet Foxes’ Third of May, X Ambassadors Hoping, and XYLØ I Still Wait For You

Post a few of your currently favorite albums and tag [said amount of] people to do the same.

This was extremely difficult to chose just a few. I ought to do something like this but just with favorite songs. Yes. I think I will! Now, in no order of preference, I present to you:

1. James Blake - “Overgrown”

2. Meadowlark - “Dual EP”

3. Glass Animals - “Zaba”

4. Florence + the Machine - “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful”

5. Thomston - “Backbone EP”

6. Hozier - “Hozier”

7. - “No Mythologies To Follow”

8. HAIM - “Days Are Gone”

9. Banks - “Goddess”

10. Alt-J - “This is All Yours”

(I’m breaking the original rules that restricted me to tagging only six people and posting only six albums. It’s just that I love this idea and couldn’t be confined to just a few. Plus, it’s an incredible way to gather more favorites, wouldn’t you agree?)

I would like to tag: perksofbeingafanboy, leedleleedlelawliet, mydraco, fearwakes, gwenstacys, hediwig, allyyyyson, legilimen, vanessayves, aidanternur, teaincheshire, hungergasmes, facinaoris, antidottes.

Thatalternativekid's Best Albums of 2014

Creating the following list was particularly challenging for me given just how diverse the spectrum of music created in 2014 was. New artists such as FKA twigs and Lake Street Dive blurred the lines between genres while seasoned veterans like St. Vincent and The Black Keys reimagined their role in the music world. On the albums Goddess and I Never Learn, earnest and pleading vocals took center stage, whereas on Alvvays and Salad Days, the focus was more on the aesthetically-pleasing and sentimental tunes. Lyrically, Sharon Van Etten and Run the Jewels broke new ground, bringing deep emotions to the table and raising up new issues for discussion. In addition, the mellow music of Jenny Lewis and Future Islands was reminiscent of times when the world was less complicated, and music more pure. In this past year musicians showed us that no matter what crazy happenings take place in the world around us, music will always be there to take us back to a place of peace, humanity, and beauty.

  1. St. Vincent - St. Vincent
  2. Are We There - Sharon Van Etten
  3. The Voyager - Jenny Lewis
  4. LP1 - FKA twigs
  5. Turn Blue - The Black Keys
  6. Bad Self Portraits - Lake Street Dive
  7. Alvvays - Alvvays
  8. Singles - Future Islands
  9. So Long, See You Tomorrow - Bombay Bicycle Club
  10. Too Bright - Perfume Genius
  11. Love Letters - Metronomy
  12. Ritual in Repeat - Tennis
  13. Sweet Disarray - Dan Croll
  14. Supermodel - Foster the People
  15. Ryan Adams - Ryan Adams
  16. This Is All Yours - alt-J
  17. 1989 - Taylor Swift
  18. Run the Jewels 2 - Run the Jewels
  19. Ultraviolence - Lana Del Rey
  20. Salad Days - Mac DeMarco
  21. Goddess - Banks
  22. They Want My Soul - Spoon
  23. I Never Learn - Lykke Li
  24. Drowners - Drowners
  25. Strange Desire - Bleachers

My taste in music changes constantly, but there’s something telling about the music you find important at a given time. For me, music marks an age of my life, and I can tell these ages by whatever album I was obsessed with at the time. So to mark just about the end of my first year at college (oh, I still have finals, but I can dream !), here are the most important albums in my life at the moment. I’ve linked to every album, so you can listen if you like.

  1. Fear Fun, Father John Misty (2012)
  2. Smoke + Mirrors, Imagine Dragons (2015)
  3. Hozier, Hozier (2014)
  4. Lonerism, Tame Impala (2012)
  5. Rumors, Fleetwood Mac (1977)
  6. Abbey Road, The Beatles (1969)
  7. Fleet Foxes, Fleet Foxes (2008)
  8. The 2nd Law, Muse (2012)
  9. This is All Yours, Alt-J (2014)
  10. Everything Will Be Alright in the End, Weezer (2014)
