also this scene is a pain to colour

tv shows like underground and harlots are out there pushing the boundary for what a period drama means, and they do it by putting people usually pushed to the sides, enslaved people are often used to as background setting to amplify how violent this era was, or used to make white people feel guilty, either way their own pain and stories are often silenced

while sex workers are so often only used to sex up a scene, or say something about a character that visits them, or again to use them to highlight violence, while their own pain and trauma is used for shock value and their own voices don’t exist

also these shows while set in the past both have a very modern feel to them, using modern music gives them an energy that makes it feel as if it is happening right now, both show use bright colours in their costumes and set design and it only adds to bring alive the era these stories are set

it’s a good reminder to use that these people had as vivid lives as our own, and had stories and feelings beyond the people who felt entitled to their bodies

supernatural meme: three relationships [2/3] → Dean & Ben

– You’re a liar, Dean.
– Excuse me?
– You say family’s so important, but what do you call people who care for you, who love you even when you’re a d*ck?”

so apparently May 8th is Ace Visibility Day! Which I probably ought to have known being Ace but HEY LET’S CELEBRATE NEW KNOWLEDGE have a left-handed doodle of my very own Ace of hearts, Arthur!

“Well… um… big question, but, to me Van Gogh is the finest painter of them all. Certainly the most popular, great painter of all time. The most beloved, his command of colour most magnificent. He transformed the pain of his tormented life into ecstatic beauty. Pain is easy to portray, but to use your passion and pain to portray the ecstasy and joy and magnificence of our world, no one had ever done it before. Perhaps no one ever will again. To my mind, that strange, wild man who roamed the fields of Provence was not only the world’s greatest artist, but also one of the greatest men who ever lived.”

This will forever be one of the greatest scenes ever filmed…
