Stuff to do on a sunday

…or weekend for that matter.

I thought I’d compile a little list of things that I aim to do on the weekends in order to not fall too deeply into the pit of lazyness and slackdom. Feel free to add your own advice and sunday/weekend rituals. {see other advice posts}.

Let’s get into it:

Tidy your space. Resetting your room or apartment will make a big difference in your stress levels. Having clutter laying around here and there will ultimately reflect on your mental state, so take a few minutes (it can most likely be done in 20 minutes) and take charge.

Vacuum or mop the floors. Now that the place is tidied up, take 5 more minutes to finish off and tackle dust and crumbles on the floor.

Change your bed sheets. A freshly mase bed smells and feels nice and it might even improve the quality of your sleep.

Open your windows. Let some fresh air fill your room.

Do your laundry. Mondays can be tough, so make sure you have your favorite outfit ready to wear.

Clean the dishes. Again, saving monday morning.

Exercise. Mens sana in corpore sano. Moving your body is vital to your overall well-being, so find an activity that you enjoy.

Be social. You might want to invite a friend and exercise together, go for a long walk or have a sit in with tea and cake.

Pamper yourself. Take a bath, shave, if you want, apply a face mask, use lotion, clip and file your nails, apply polish if that’s your thing. Use peeling on your skin, and conditioner for your hair.

Bake. If you find this relaxing, try a new recipe. Not only will baking make your place smell amazing, you can also spread some cookie-love. I don’t know anybody who doesn’t like receiving baked goods unexpectedly.

Listen to music. Put on the new record that you didn’t find time for to listen in the week or blast your favorite classic album.

Create. Paint, draw, grab your camera or guitar, make a vlog, write a poem, blog. Whatever you prefer.

Read a book. Have you already re-read the Harry Potter books this year? You probably should.

Go outside. Walk around, explore your neighborhood. Find a cute café, watch people walk by and sip on some tea or coffee. Go to a museum or gallery and learn something new.

Tackle unfinished task. Sit down with your planner and look for unchecked tasks in your weekly overview. Do them if absolutely necessary. However, super important tasks are probably crossed of already anyway.

Plan the upcoming week. Make a list of tasks that need to get done in the upcoming week. Try to prioritize. If you’re bullet journaling, this can be a wonderful creative outlet to decorate a few pages.

Prep food for the next day(s). Take responsibility for your nutrition and try not to depend or rely on the food that’s provided by your school, university or work place. Many meals can be cooked in bulk, stored and you’re good to go for many days, with only having to cook once. This ultimately saves time and money.

That’s about it. I hope you might have found one or another useful tip. However, there’s one last thing to do on sundays:

B e   l a z y .   It’s the weekend after all, so feel free to just not do anything at all. Try and push aside some responsibilities, stop worrying about tasks that lay in the future. Sleep in, have breakfast in bed, binge-watch your favorite show on netflix or curl up with a good book. Just chill the heck out.

anonymous asked:

I have a small favor to ask as I am v confused rn but could you post a brief description of the various gravity falls aus cus I know the names but I don't know what they're about so if you could inform me I'd be grateful please and thanks love~

Okay, this might take a bit.

Transcendence AU

Essentially, when Bill fails the apocalypse and is dying, he makes one last desperate attempt to survive by trying to posses Dipper without his permission. Dipper fights back and by a hair’s chance manages to push the weakened Bill from his mind, killing the demon. Only, Bill has already rooted himself too deeply into Dipper and all of Bill’s power remains in Dipper, turning him into a demon and forcing him out of the physical plain. Because of his human origin, Dipper is the only demon capable of becoming physical without a rift, although it takes a while for him to figure out how. Now, while Bill was stopped from destroying the world, it was at the cost of the Transcendence. Pretty much the entire world becomes as magical as Gravity Falls and even more dangerous. Dipper becomes known as the demon Alcor and Mabel is his partner in cult bashing partner Mizar. There’s a lot of world building (reincarnation, prejudice against non-humans, monsters in everyday life, thousands of years as Alcor, Uncle Dipper, angels, other demons, awesome new characters, etc…) and overall, the blog is its own fandom that is constantly contributed to. TAU is the largest, most organized, and highest quality AU that I have ever seen. It’s huge. And fantastic.

Here’s a longer summary.   This is its wiki.    Its TVtropes page.

Demonic Guardians AU -

Here’s the main comic behind it. Demons’ can have one human that if they bond with and protect, will make the demon stronger. There’s a catch though. If the human dies, a part of the demon does too. The stronger the bond between demon and human, the more damage will be inflicted on the demon when the human dies. Not all humans have a demon, and not all demons have a human. A bunch of the cast of GF have demonic guardians, each character having a different level of bond. Bill Cipher is Dipper’s guardian. Mabel’s is Dot Matrix (used to be named Tad Strange; might recognize him as the square with the bowler hat). Gideon’s is Kryptos (the star on top his tent). Stanley has Pi Mo (looks kinda like a coin). Pacifica’s is the Lumberjack Ghost. There’s a whole lot of fan made demons too. The creator is really cool. Outside of Demonic Guardians AU, she’s made the Danny Phantom crossover: You Smell Like Death, the Over the Garden Wall crossover: Garden Falls, and her own really good comic: The Boy Who Fell.

Monster Falls -

Dipper finds a magic stream called Fluvius Cantatis, some stuff happens, and everyone in the town gets turned into monsters. Dipper’s a Deertaur, Mabel’s a mermaid, Wendy’s a werewolf, Stanley’s a Gargoyle, Stanford’s a sphinx, Gideon’s a vampire, Robbie’s a zombie, Soos is a clay homonculus/golem, Pacifica’s a gorgon, Bill’s…human like, etc… This AU is mostly fan art and fanfiction. Sometimes the monster that a character is turned into is different, but this list is what they’re most commonly depicted as.

Reverse Falls -

I have no idea where this AU came from??? All the characters in this have swapped rolls and personalities. Gideon Pines is a kid visiting Gravity Falls with his cousin/best friend Pacifica Pines(or Southeast). While there, they meet the psychic twins Mabel and Dipper Gleeful who run the Tent of Telepathy. The twins are much darker and more powerful than Gideon from Gravity Falls. Will Cipher is an easily terrified Demon who just wants the twins to leave him alone. All the other character’s changes depend on the artist/writer. Robbie and Wendy usually swap.

Relativity Falls -

This is essentially an age/generation swap. Twins Stanley and Stanford go to spend the summer with their Grauntie Mabel. The main switches are Mabel with Stanley, Dipper with Stanford, Wendy with Dan, Gideon with Bud, Pacifica with Preston, Abuelita(Maria) with Soos, etc… Most of the show is the same, with a few twists and the added personality of having a different character in whatever situation.

Anti-Gravity AU -

Though not to be mistaken for Relativity Falls, Anti-Gravity is also an age swap. Wendy and Soos are young kids who find Journal 3. Mabel and Dipper are teenagers who work for Grunkle Stan at the Mystery Shack. Pacifica has Robbie’s role (dating Dipper, to Wendy’s jealousy). Bud Gleeful takes Gideon’s place as Wendy and Soos’s enemy. Robbie is Soos’s bully. Other than that, all characters stay the same.

Reunion Falls -

Dipper and Mabel are separated at birth: Mabel growing up with their parents in California and Dipper being raised by Grunkle Stan. Eventually, Mabel finds out about Dipper and runs off to Gravity Falls to meet him. Without a twin, Mabel, while still bright and cheerful, is less out going while Dipper, growing up with Wendy and Stan as role  models, is more confident. The AU is the twins getting to know each other and bonding.

Only Child AU -

Mabel is stillborn, making Dipper an only child. Because of his parent’s ever growing grief over losing a child, Dipper is often neglected. Dipper has the same personality as cannon, but it’s buried under self-worth issues, survivor’s guilt, need to be loved, and shyness. He’s a sad child who really just needs a hug. He also knits sweaters; he always wears the red one he made (it looks a bit like Ford’s). The AU is Dipper’s stay at Gravity Falls with Stan and eventually reaches to him growing up and gaining a little sister, baby Mabel (who both he and his parent’s adore). The AU is all art right now, but the creator is eventually going to make a fic for it.

Fright Falls -

Mabel gets turned into a vampire. Dipper gets turned into a werewolf. The AU is their adventures as creatures of the supernatural. There’s a lot of cool art for the AU.

Immortal Pines AU -

Immortal Pines is a comic where Bill kills Mabel and Dipper, only to realize that it wasn’t what he wanted. He brings the twins back to life and makes them immortal by infusing them with his power. This means that they only exist in the dreamscape. The AU is them trying to get back to normal before they become too much like Bill.  The artist is cool.

Twin Demons AU -

Mabel and Dipper are the Demons, while Bill ‘Billi’ is the 12 year old human. Billi is an innocent, if lacking common sense, kid who’s come to Gravity Falls to stay with his Grunkle Stan. The twins are demons with big plans that involve Billi, much to his horror.

Blinded AU

The Society of the Blind Eye doesn’t wipe Dipper’s memories of the supernatural, they wipe all his memory.  The Society takes him in, indoctrinating him into their ways. Bill visits and uses Dipper as a spy. The AU is an amnesic Dipper living with only the Society and Bill as company.

Apocalypse Falls

Mabel’s decision in Not What He Seems has catastrophic damage on Gravity Falls. The Shack is destroyed and many people undergo….changes: physical, mental, even death. Dipper gains wings while Mabel’s mind spirals into madness. The AU just got rebooted, so the story-line is unknown at the moment.

  Gravity Rises -

Another swap AU, this time between personality and symbols. Mabel is Pine Tree, the intellectual and mystery obsessed twin. Dipper is Shooting Star, the laid back and creative one. Stan and Ford switch. Pacifica takes Gideon’s role as Crescent Moon, the leader of the Order of the Crescent Eye (Bill’s cult). She’s a sociopath and the main antagonist. Gideon takes Pacifica’s role as Lone Wolf, the rich kid turned anti-hero. Terrifying with his magic, even Bill is wary of Gideon. It’s a cool AU that’s very different from the show even though it’s partially a personality swap.

Joseon AU -

An AU where Gravity Falls takes place in the Joseon Kingdom in Korea. Everyone wears traditional clothing of the time period and place of the Joseon Kingdom. The AU is mostly fan art.

Coven AU -

Mabel and Dipper are the apprentices of Grunkle Stan in a wold where magic is common. Bill’s a magic cat.

Gravity Keys  -

In this AU, Gravity Falls is set in Key West, Florida. Mabel has a chicken instead of a pig, but other than that, most things stay the same.

Church AU -

It’s Gravity Falls, but in a church. Bill is a demon. Bill is in the Church. Dipper is just so angry at Bill. Things don’t go well.

Kitten Dipper AU -

Dipper finds a comb that has a cat shaped handle. When he brushes his hair with it, he gets turned into a kitten! The AU is Dipper the cat.

Carnivàle Falls

It’s the 1930s. Mabel and Dipper go to stay with their Grunkle Stan at his traveling freak show. Gideon is a faith healer. The Dust Bowl is a problem.

Spy AU -

Stan and Ford are spys with Fiddleford building their gadgets. They’re trying to take down the Cipher Organization.

Camp Cipher -

Gravity Falls, but as a summer camp. The teens are counselors while all the kids are campers. Nice art.

Never Human AU

Stanley Pines was stillborn, replaced with a Fae or Changeling. When in Fae mode, Stan had six glowing green eyes. There’s some angst of Stan learning to deal with the fact that he’s a monster and not actually related to his family. It’s later revealed that Dipper is also Fae, which really freaks him out. Mabel is super accepting, so everything turns out fine. It’s a really great AU with fantastic fics and art.

Ghost Stan AU -

Stan is a level 10 ghost. It’s awesome, and Stanley makes a great ghost. There’s a lot of sad. Stan’s dead. The AU has a whole bunch of fanfiction and fanart.

Joml AU/Grim AU -

Stanley befriends the Grim, omen of death. As soon as Ford finds out what Stan’s done he freaks out because, well, Stanley has the omen of death as his pet. Really cute and funny AU. Got some angst too though. Also, Stan makes his own journal.

Frankenstan AU -

Stanley dies pre-portal opening. Ford, being the idiot that he is, bring Stan back to life Frankenstein style with the help of Fiddleford. This includes digging up Stan’s body. It’s also got a mystery trio vibe going for it.

amysantiagone  asked:

In Rogue One, Cassian Andor states that he's been fighting for the rebels since he was 6 years old. Assuming he meant literal combating, would his personality be similar to that of a child raised for combat? Would there be any differences?

This is sort of a yes and no, as all children involved in violent conflicts from an early age are affected by it. However, the children who take part in rebellions aren’t in the same category of the child soldiers discussed on this blog before, though they absolutely share similarities.

Kids involved in rebellions are rarely used as frontline combatants. They’re far too valuable for that. Instead, they function as informants, carriers, and, occasionally, saboteurs. They’re not the one who picks up the gun to shoot down enemy soldiers in a safe zone. They’re the ones who move the gun past the security perimeter or receive it from the old man or woman who did and plant it. They’re the ones hanging around befriending enemy soldiers in bars or cantinas so they can tip their friends off about where the troops are moving to next. Children, women, the elderly, those generally viewed as non-combatants, the ones that society overlooks or views as “safe” are often the backbone of any resistance movement.

They get the goods, they move the packages, they carry the messages between resistance cells, they sometimes take care of the equipment, and they do most of the footwork that allows a resistance to engage the enemy. When they do fight, it’s generally in the form of sabotage like finding and slipping poison into the enemy troop’s stew, planting bombs, or because survival necessitates it when their cover is blown.

As a child, Cassian Andor would have a background common with other children in rebellions depicted in media like ‘Phan Duc To’ from Good Morning, Vietnam! (1987) and the children involved in The Battle of Algiers (1966).

If you’ve never seen Good Morning, Vietnam! I just spoiled the movie.

The Battle of Algiers is a great movie if you’re looking for an honest overview of how rebellions function on both sides of the conflict or just a treatment on the French colonization of Algeria. Fair warning, it is not an english language film. Kiera Nerys from Star Trek: Deep Space 9 is another decent character to look at when wanting to model a background for a resistance fighter who joined as a child. G’kar from Babylon 5 and the entire Narn/Centauri conflict is also an excellent example of the enduring hatreds and issues brought by colonization.

One of the qualities you see in these children and then again as adults is pure, unadulterated hatred for their oppressors. More so than the other kinds, they hate. Often to the point of becoming a new version of the enemy their resistance was attempting to drive off.

Cassian would’ve spent a lot of time hanging around rebel fighters, doing odd jobs for them until the day came when they were short a man or needed a message run by someone who wouldn’t attract attention.

If this has started to sound like spycraft, well, you’re not far off. Resistances don’t have the luxury of major battle offensives like an army, and even guerilla warfare is actually a step up from what happens on the ground, and there is a common word you’ll find familiar for what they do: terrorism.

The actions of a resistance fighter and the actions of a terrorist are one and the same, the only difference is in who is telling the story. If you want to investigate real resistances without the judgements, study up on World War II, the French Resistance, and the Maquis.

Yes, that Maquis not the one from Star Trek.

On the ground resistances are rough and ready, they’re often split apart into distinct cells comprised of only a few agents, and almost no one knows who is higher up the food chain. This is important because it protects the other operating cells and resistance leadership in case an operative is captured by the enemy.

For the most part, whether you’re writing historical fiction or a foray into science fiction, the philosophy, goals, and strategy of a resistance will remain the same. What changes is how they go about operating within their setting because, like spies, a resistance requires the author have a solid grasp on how the enemy functions, the details in how they hold power, the technology they have access to, and how their army works.

On a literal and literary level, the Resistance is about disruption. Whether they’re sabotaging train tracks, blowing up food transports, or bombing nightclubs, their goal is to disrupt everyday life and make it as unpleasant as possible. They’re ghosts in the system, you’ll never know where or when they’ll strike, and they’re out to destroy enemy moral every way they can. A resistance drives the enemy from their homeland by making the cost of holding it no longer worthwhile. Though, historically, this is often impossible unless the majority of the population joins the cause and/or the tide of public sentiment back home within the enemy’s homeworld or nation turns against the invaders. A resistance occurring against the powerful within their own homeland is much, much more destructive.

What marks a character like Cassian, who grew up in a resistance movement, more than other children engaged in violence is first and foremost betrayal. Betrayal from without, betrayal from within, the people he’s lied to and betrayed, seeing many friends vanish overnight or die, and never quite knowing who he can trust. He probably has very few friends left alive from his early days with the Rebellion, and more than likely experienced the Imperials wiping out his cell(s) on multiple occasions. He worked his way up the ranks until he became an operative working closely within the Rebellion’s inner circle.

Star Wars is functionally much more clear cut than the real resistances that occur throughout the world.

Happy writing!

how to be a minimalist student

a lot of minimalism blogs/youtube channels are directed at older people with houses and jobs, rather than students living with their parents going to and from school; but that doesn’t mean minimalism can’t be for students/teenagers too!

I thought I would write some tips and tricks for being a student minimalist and why it’s worth a shot:

how to:

1. cook with friends rather than buying takeaways or go for walks instead of sitting inside watching films. make the most of the time you spend with friends (and spend less money while you’re at it)

2. stop scrolling and turn off notifications. I’ve switch off all notifications on my lock screen (except for essentials like text) and have muted all non-essential chats so I only have to know about them if I have chosen to go on my phone for that purpose. this is a really easy way to get rid of distractions

3. practicality > aesthetic. I agree that colourful beautiful notes are lovely but they aren’t necessarily worth your time. use your time effectively and don’t rewrite pages of notes just because you had to cross something out and now it’s ‘ruined’.

3. trade your busy life for a full one by doing one thing at once. learn to focus on one task at a time and give it your full attention. this isn’t just about studying, but also about social events. if you’re meeting a friend, spend the time with your friend, not on your phone. devote yourself to each thing you’re doing and plan your time

4. remember: just because its on sale doesn’t mean you need to buy it. just because you have money doesn’t mean you need to spend it.

5. say no. its easier to take back a no than it is to take back a yes. don’t feel obliged to sign up for everything and do everything for everyone. put yourself first and don’t feel guilty

6. try the hanger trick. hang all your clothes on hangers facing the same direction. twist the hanger around after you wear something. after a month, donate everything that hasn’t been twisted round to charity

7. cleanse your social media: unfriend people you don’t know anymore. unfriend people who are negative. delete the apps you don’t use. unsubscribe from channels/newsletters that no longer interest you. declutter your online life

8. cleanse your real life relationships: stop spending time with people who put you down. end your unhealthy relationships. be honest with people you care about. put yourself first

9. record your favourite show or watch netflix. avoiding adverts frees you from the endless cycle of always wanting to have the next big thing

why it’s worth a try:

1. teaching yourself to switch off from social media and learning to spend more quality time with people face-to-face is liberating

2. everything is easier when you have a clear(er) head. having less means you have less to worry about

3. you’ll save money surprisingly easily. the money you spent on takeaways or shoes you thought you needed because everyone else had them can be put towards bigger things that will make you happier e.g. travelling or can be saved for the future

4. you can focus on your mental and physical health more when you aren’t distracted by your phone buzzing all the time and aren’t basing your happiness on keeping up with the latest trends

N.B. don’t expect to ‘get’ minimalism overnight. I definitely still haven’t cracked it. start small and slowly implement minimalism into different areas of your life. figure out what works and what doesn’t. minimalism is personal so there is no ‘right’ way of doing things.

just because minimalism can be about having less, doesn’t mean you have to throw away your beloved book collection. if it makes you happy, keep it; if it doesn’t, let it go.

Fairy Tail Chapter 545 Review

Okay guys. Here it is. After 11 years the story of Fairy Tail finally comes to a close. So let’s dive into Chapter 545 “Irreplaceable Friends”

We open  at a big fancy party thrown in Lucy’s honor for her best selling book, “The Adventure of Iris”. Honestly… Good to know Lucy gets a successful career in her ending.

and we now get the cover page…

It’s a little crowded, and I think there has been better shots of all of Fairy Tail together, but nostalgia is really kicking in.

The next few pages is just shots of FT being FT.

So Lucy begins to narrate some things that have happened in the last year. First about her book and then…

Oh god. Not you. Yes, Anna gets to live in this time period, with no consequences and not even a meaningful conversation with Lucy. To top it off, she’s now a teacher. Yeah, seeing as how all of Anna’s “intellect“ just kept making things worse and worse, I don’t think those kids are in for a good academic future.

Seems like Levy is pregnant. Cool. Not that this isn’t bad, but after the whole Bradman thing, this was kinda obvious.

We then cut to other guilds. Like Lamia scale and we find out that Chelia…

Are you fucking kidding me? I guess this war really did have no lasting consequences for our heroes!

This is the last of Sabertooth. Which I swear is just a copied image from the Avatar arc when the “Tora Tora eating festival” was introduced.

I guess Ichiya is Blue Pegasus’s master now? Well he did survive a suicide trip pushing Acnologia into a portal, guess he earned this title.

Wow this arc has done well at stripping away Kagura’s dignity. From getting striped by Dimaria, to giving Jellal CPR shirtless, to being given a magic induced orgasm, and now she’s a model. Okay there’s nothing wrong with being a model, but this is Kagura. Stoic, Badass Swordswoman,  I didn’t see becoming a magazine model as a future for her character. She doesn’t even seem to like this! Actually wait! The caption says that Mermaid Heel’s girls all became models… Wow, way to treat the female only guild.

We cut to the party where…

Oh god, Gildarts no… Also Juvia, I know you spent time with Gray and developed the striping habbit, but you usually did it in combat… I don’t get why you’re doing it now.

Gray drags off Juvia and begins to lecture her on her scar…

So they’re canon… I think? Kinda… Sorta… No well explained… Hey wait! I just realized that this whole big plot point about how Gray will give Juvia an answer and keep her from being left hanging, doesn’t end in a straight answer, but a maybe?! AKA still left hanging! Dude, grow a spine and say it!

Wait… what’s this…

I love this scene! Mashima you glorious bastard~

We then cut to see that King Toma has abdicated, making Hisui queen. Yeah… Hisui… She totally earned it… What have you even done?Well she does make peace with Alvarez. Which is most likely going through a civil war to determine who is now the ruling body given the emperor and most of his top men are dead.

But Hisui also pardons Crime Sociere…

Y’know her telling them to live, would be a bit more powerful, if she interacted with Erza and not Lucy.

Yeah now the most controversial part of the chapter…

Erza and Jellal don’t get together. In fact, they don’t even talk. Y’know I did a brief post on my thoughts about this and I still stand by, Mashima is under no obligation to get them together, but he does at least owe them a conversation. At least. Because when you tease something like that, you really can’t leave open ended. If they aren’t going to get together you should at least give them a conversation that at least leads to them making the decision not to get together.

(Also Erza’s hair was that gorgeous without brushing it?!)

And Makarov can’t walk anymore… Oh god it must hard for him to make it through each day now, old, numerous heart attacks, lost the ability to walk. At this point just mercy kill him. Wait, he’ll probably live through that too.

Oh yeah and the other controversial scene…

Yup. Mavis and Zeref have been reincarnated and are now destined to fall in love again… Oh god… Why? You concluded their story! The whole journey of them as a couple had a great ending. Granted I felt it was weighed down by the Alvarez arc really dropping the ball with the whole relationship thing, before their conclusion. So this really feels like it ruins that big curse breaking moment, because they actually don’t escape their eternal cycle. Instead of being immortal they’re just reincarnated. Also one month is a short time for these reincarnations to be born and then make it to their teenage years

We get a montage shot of FT acting like FT and…

Wow… A ship with no canon interaction gets acanon ending. Mashima, you glorious bastard…

We cut to the next day in Lucy’s home, where… (For old time’s sake)

Natsu is in her living room. Appears she passed out after getting drunk, and brought her home.

And then this scene.

I know there are some upset that Natsu and Lucy didn’t get together, but this scene is really heartfelt. Regardless of the quality of every arc in question, I genuinely feel that these are two people who’ve been through thick and thin.

So they run off on another adventure… But not just on any adventure…

A 100 year quest.

So we close out on another montage showing off FT.

Umm looks like Fairies don’t have tails…

Anyway that is the conclusion, and after 11 long years the stories of Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Erza, Wendy, Happy, and Carla, come to an end, but the adventure of Fairy Tail lives on…

Post Chapter Follow Up: I’m going to start with the negatives only because I want to end on a positive note.

The biggest issue with this conclusion, is a lot of the individual ends feel iffy… Weather they don’t seem to fit the character like Kagura, or give a level of finality to their story like Jellal, or even acknowledge there has been a change to get us to this point like sabertooth. It really hurts because these are the last time we’ll see these characters and leaving them off with those conclusions is bitter sweet.

Let’s also talk about the controversial stuff. The biggest is the ambiguity. The “story” has to end without the story ending, thus it doesn’t go against a never ending adventure. There are things I think you can leave ambiguous, like Natsu and Lucy going off on an adventure, or what happens to all of the guilds as a whole. But there are some stuff that really you can’t do given the time spent on it. As I said, I am fine with Mashima not making pairs canon. Afterall, he isn’t under obligation to, just because the ships have large fanbases. That said he needs to at least give a straight answer. WIth all the time spent, you need to show us how you come to the end for these pairs and why that might not get together.

Another thing that really hurts is the Zeref and Mavis thing… Why? It’s not a bad scene, but it’s bad because it really ruins their already good conclusion. Doesn’t destroy it, but does make it a lot lesser.

So with all that said… Lets get to the positives,. First of all, I really do want to give Hiro Mashima for attempting something different for his conclusion than the typical shounen ending. I do think it is muddled a bit in execution, but this could’ve very well been just a repeat of Rave’s ending. I’m glad he ended it, his own way.

Another thing is the FT hijicks. I know a lot of the cast of FT didn’t do much this final arc, but it’s so nice to see them all get to show of their personalities one more time before the curtain draws to a close.

And finally, that moment with Natsu and Lucy. I know people are upset that the two are not together as lovers, but that doesn’t take away this really is two characters that share a genuine bond. Maybe not romantic, but it really feels like a finale for these two.

So this is the last time I’m going to do this for FT…

Final Verdict: 5/10

  • It’s too ambiguous
  • It does have some head scratching edings for characters
  • It has very sweet moments of characterization
  • Reminds of the jiy these characters brought me.

Before we go,This is it, this is the last review for a chapter of Fairy Tail I’m going to ever write. It’s been an honor and pleasure bringing you a review week to week. I wouldn’t be anything without this series, I could’ve never made my blog what it is without this series help, and all of your help dear readers. We had a lot of fun. Sure, at times it wasn’t always good, we had ups and we had downs, but that was what Fairy Tail was, a ride. And it’s a ride I don’t regret getting on. I hope it left everyone with some good memories. So till we see each other again, stay gold!

Thoughts on the new gaming vid? They seemed so happy and cute and lighting has improved everything A++ ^_^

(faceapp)

  • 2 seconds in and i’m already shook i can’t believe this is real we are literally looking into their new house they are literally actually filming in a new HOUSE and it’s all just too much to process
  • phil sitting cross legged on the same old futon and fixing the tetris lights and balancing them and the pacman light on cardboard boxes is all too cute his enthusiasm is too much for me and dan definitely thinks it’s so cute too and this whole intro is just so soft
  • i love that phil owns up to the fact that this was his idea while dan is tryna go for his traditional ugh this is too stupid and vapid and too mainstream and not creative enough shtick. phil giving no fucks about a got damn quality threshold is my kink
  • when phil is attempting to take his neutral expression selfie and slightly pouts and he and dan giggle (i’m being generous w that term bc dan’s was more like a squawk tbh) at the exact same moment i just smiled so hard. they’re so cute. and they’re both apparently kind of uncomfortable w the notion of like trying to look sultry in photos which is why that pouty expression made them laugh immediately, and also is a good precursor to the whole discussion that comes later about phil’s ladybird selfie
  • dan’s look into the camera at 2:13 gave me lifeeeeee i like that he’s trying to shade phil for taking forever to get his fuckin selfie but instead he has this ever so subtle up tilt to his lips bc he can’t completely hide his smile ughaierjoaierj
  • omg underrated discussion in this video: at 2:26 once phil has finally succeeded in taking the selfie he turns to dan and says “i look alright there” but w the intonation of a question, like he’s literally asking dan for affirmation that he looks good and  not only that but he full on turns to look at dan and gauge his reaction and that felt so special and genuine to me??? like??? not a sort of thing i would expect to see tbh? and in general this video was obvi silly and just a bit of fun but also i thought the level of feedback they were giving each other on their photos and the way they were reacting was all so,,, warm and comfortable and surprisingly open. in this instance i’m also just frustrated bc dan was about to say something in response to phil asking dan if he looks alright, but he cuts himself off. he says ‘that’s an excep—’ and it def sounds like he was gonna say exceptional or exceptionally and i need to know what his thought was. i also like that the thought he interrupts himself with is about phil still having slight crazy eyes. we’ve talked about phil’s own explanation for his wide-eyed deer-in-headlights expressions in selfies a bit on this blog. according to him, he resorts to doing that bc having his photo taken makes him uncomfortable, so it was cute to me that dan noted that phil still did a little bit of the wide eyes without giving any context for why he was pointing it out bc it’s just an understood thing that they obvi have talked about a lot
  • 3:14 dan’s horrified and squeaky “what have they done to your face?” is so good. it’s just. so good. he sounds so outraged that they’ve fucked w phil’s face i lov it
  • 3:20 is the besttttttttt. this is the exchange where dan teases phil for being old and i love everything about it i love how dan made that comment without even thinking which sort of suggests that teasing phil for being old is just a regular/habitual thing and i love the way phil reacted bc it wasn’t rly irritated or even mock irritation in the end. instead he just played along w dan’s joke and accepted it and the whole exchange was so warmmmmmmm and comfortableeeeeee and flirtyyyyyyyyy and it reminds me of a few other comments that dan has made here and there that allude to their age gap and they’re always v cute and gentle teasing and it’s just so good
  • 3:42 they’re talking about the ‘old’ selfie and 1. dan is captivated and i can literally see him contemplating his future w phil lmao and 2. phil talking about joey graceffa and calling him good-looking w a blatant pause before he said that, making me wonder if he was going to use a word that was a bit more emphatic than “good-looking” either way i’m into it and then there’s a blatant jump cut and i’m wondering if they had a lil side conversation about joey being cute lol 3. phil is still looking at dan basically every time he makes a comment and it’s rly surprising but lovely 4. dan needed to come in w that compliment about old phil rocking current phil’s fringe and how cool he looks :)
  • here’s dan howell caught right in the act of contemplating growing old w phil:
  • bless them for calling out how dumb the concept of a “female” filter is. also dan’s once again violent reaction to phil in the female filter is so cute and funny i love how incensed he is with the whole concept of anything being different about phil’s face
  • 5:36 dan looking at phil in the male filter and saying “you look so average” in such a disappointed tone is rly one of the best fucking things i’ve ever seen in my life. i’ve often thought about dan’s attraction to phil being based in some of the things that are most striking about his appearance. for example he always talks about how black phil’s hair is and how pale his skin is and back in the day he obvi left that infamous comment on phil’s dailybooth about how blue his eyes are and i feel like dan is probs drawn to these features that are just,,, extreme,,, and i love that even a slight change to phil’s jawline/face shape made dan think phil looked decidedly more average precisely bc what he loves about phil’s face are all the things that aren’t average at all!!!! i’m emotional!!
  • phil was so hype to see all of dan’s ones!!!! i’m crying!!!!! the way he was doing his hee-hee laughs and bouncing up and down quite literally and like hitting his hands on the table and saying things like i wanna be friends w him instead of you and ‘i wanna see old danny! old danny slice!!!’ like calm down mate!!!!! ur cute!!! we know u think dan is cute!!! y do u love every single version of him so much!!!! when he sees the old one he immediately says he likes it and compliments it!!!!! when he sees the old one on the daniel x dream pic he calls him cute!!!!!! and then makes this face at dan while dan looks at it!!!!!!
  • help!!!!
  • dan talking about embracing makeup was amazing and phil being totally down with it and immediately suggesting a smoky eye look and consulting some tutorials was also amazing and i hope thats something they’ve discussed before tbh
  • dan @ manly dan: ‘i mean i would.’ nice. dancest is real and it’s right before our eyes ppl
  • 8:28 dan saying he hates his current profile picture was so surprising and lovely when he gave his reason—it doesn’t reflect his natural curls. i’m honestly so pleased to hear that he views the natural hair as such an important change for him that he wants his display pic (something we know he spends way too much time thinking about and therefore treats as an incredibly important thing) to reflect this shift
  • 9:05 ahhhh the controversial dan reactions to phil’s ladybird selfie. here’s the thing. i think when dan says it’s a “really cringe selfie” he’s talking about the discomfort they both feel about doing posed/sultry shots. he corrects himself after phil protests that it’s not cringe to saying it’s only slightly cringe instead of really cringe, and that he should’ve included an ironic (i hate dan’s use of the word ironic so much bc he often uses it when what he really means is “sarcastic” or, in this case, self-deprecating/humorous) caption. when phil then says that he did use a funny caption, dan basically entirely revokes his criticism and says that phil actually “nailed it” w the photo/caption combination. basically i think both of them get embarrassed about the idea of unabashedly posing in an attractive way for photos and since they’re so close dan feels that embarrassment for phil as well. i don’t think he was saying he actually dislikes the selfie or that phil looks bad or unattractive or anything negative about phil himself. the only comment i did find questionable was when he almost said that the smile filter was an improvement!!! it seemed weird when compared to how much he disliked all the alterations to phil’s face on the first picture lol but then he also made fun of it so i didn’t take it to mean that dan literally thought the filter is an improvement to phil’s real face, just that it was pretty remarkable how cleanly the filters worked on that particular selfie
  • overall: really liked this!!!!!!! such a good intro to the new office!!! such a warm and chill lil vid where they were mostly casual and just being so soft and flirty w each other and basically calling each other cute in creative ways whats not to love about that it was great

we played this at a classics crew date so, fuck marry kill with the first & second triumvirates maddie

first triumvirate:

fuck caesar. i feel like any longlasting relationship with him would’ve resulted in my death and also i’m really extra about caesar so this is the way it has to be. remember when he crossed the rubicon and started a civil war like a boss ass bitch? i’m into that. being stabbed 23 times? not as much.

marry crassus because the dude was so fucking loaded, he was buds with caesar and he hated pompey which are good qualities in a husband.

kill pompey. friends with cicero which is straight up unforgivable. seemed like a tool. started a civil war. also not that i frequently jack off to busts of roman patricians but his bust is fucking ugly. a two at best.

second triumvirate (ho boy):

fuck mark antony. if anyone is surprised by this, you haven’t been around my blog for long enough. my boy and i have a lot of things in common, mainly being drunk sluts with suicidal tendencies. plus, he possibly married cleopatra and she manipulated him into killing himself so i don’t think that would work out very well.

marry lepidus… u know what… i feel like he’s the sort of guy that u could walk all over. u could get away with doing whatever the fuck u wanted to do and he’d probably just leave u alone before dying peacefully. dream marriage.

obvs i would kill octavian because there is nothing i like about him, he was a limp fish of a man and used other peoples’ successes for himself (i mean i understand this is ancient rome and everyone did this but he took it to an all new level). dedicated like ten years of his life to demolishing mark antony into the dust. he was also devious af so i feel like you’d always have to watch ur back if u were anywhere near him, and u’d probably slip up one day and he’d kill you so. no thanks.

I'm writing a character who starts out fragile, but joins a band of adventurers and becomes increasingly better at defending herself, javing no othet choice. However, reading through your blog it seems like the gap between skill levels is wider than I thought. As in, it might not be worth it for someone to learn fighting unless they plan on throwing themselves into it. Would it be worth it for her to learn to fight marginally well, or should she focus on getting better at running away?

The question isn’t “should she learn to fight?”, it’s “how skilled do you expect her to be in a short period of time?”.

The answer to the question posed in the ask is both. She should focus on learning to fight and getting better at running away. Both are necessary survival skills. In fact, learning to run away is part of learning to fight. Learning to assess a situation to determine the threat level and decide when it is time to go. Learning to defuse situations to avoid a violent confrontation is also part of learning to fight.

Here’s the problem with the general outlook most people have on combat training. They think you’re learning to handle all the situations which come your way violently. That’s not it. You’re learning how to asses the situations to determine whether or not its within a range you can handle. The best warriors are the ones who know when to fight, when not to fight, when to call for backup, and when to leave.

Those skills are the ones she needs. It’s entirely possible to learn fighting as a defensive option when her other skills fall through. This is not someone who is going to be going at it with practiced swordsmen in a one on one duel, but might get good at cutting themselves free and learning how to create exits so they can find a safer position. They’re not particularly good at violence in the professional sense, but it works as a fallback when the situation grows desperate.

Combat is a skill set. With consistent practice she’ll get better at it and the more scenarios she’s thrown into then the faster she learns how to survive.

She’s going to spend a lot of time running away at first, which she will grow better at. Then, eventually, she’ll learn how to turn and fight. She’ll get better at that too as time passes. She’ll never be the equivalent of the team’s muscle, but that’s not the point. She may end up being a “fight only when I have to/last line of defense” character, but that works fine. I’m going to assume she has other skills she’s developed which are more useful to this merry band than her combat ability. Even if she doesn’t, she still works as a character. I mean, Merry and Pippen are some of the most beloved characters in The Lord of the Rings and they contribute almost nothing except moral support. People play bards in Dungeons & Dragons. (Kidding, bard lovers, they’re awesome and can be incredibly deadly.)

The issues come when we start thinking a character needs to have certain qualities in order to be legitimate, rather than figuring out what their skill sets are and using those as the basis for how they solve problems.

Create a scenario and solve it based on what the character can do rather than what they can’t do. The assumption that a situation needs to be solved violently or that there’s only one outcome is faulty. Your story is in a character’s ability to problem solve, what the issue is and the way they went about finding a solution. Flattering your way out is just as legitimate as fighting, even more so as it draws less attention and creates fewer additional problems.

I’ve got a character who can do magic, but isn’t good enough to be a combat mage. She can’t really fight. When she and her friends were captured by giants, she was small enough to slip out through the cage bars. Since she wasn’t good at lockpicking and they were too far away to get help, she decided to go talk to the giants. The story evolved from there.

“If I can’t do X, what else can I do?”

That’s where the story is.

There are a variety of different skill ceilings with combat, levels of what you can do and can’t do. A person with a weekends self-defense training isn’t going to be tackling Navy Seals, but they’ll be better at identifying danger in their surroundings. They’ll be better at creating exits to so they can escape to safety. They may have a better chance when faced with danger.

You said it yourself, the point of this character training to fight isn’t so she can throw herself into the fray against seasoned combatants but to help her survive. Focus on that and keep track of her skill level versus that of her opponents.

Chapter Three of a Fatal_Error has Occurred will start in a few weeks!

Taking a break before starting this past chapter made a HUGE difference in how quickly, efficiently, and stress-free creating updates was for me because I spent time writing a script, sketching updates ahead of time, and getting organized. So that’s how I’m going to approach this upcoming chapter as well :) This’ll also give me a chance to just draw and derp around and have a bit of fun with the asks, which I’ve missed doing :D

Also, we’ve finally reached the point in the story that I can start introducing some other story elements that I’d like to explore, like the File Not Found comic. And I think ya’ll will be interested to see what I have in mind as well ;) But this requires some pretty careful planning, and I want to make sure I get it right, and at the level of quality I hold myself to. So look out for announcements about this in the weeks to come~

Along with all of this (and on a more personal note) I’ve got a LOT of things going on in my life right now, both blog/comic related and not, and I just need some time to take care of things right now so that I can keep working on my art in the future the way that I want to :) It’s nothing bad, I promise, but as a seasoned procrastinator it’s just important that I take some things seriously and handle my potato business like the potato I am.

Anywhoo! As for the main comic, ya’ll will know when I’m ready to get things started once I post the Chapter Three cover :3 I thank ya’ll in advance for your patience! <3

4CC Special Sports News in HEROS: (interview in Gangneung, Korea)

Translation of Yuzuru’s comments only:

1) (0’00” to 1’25”) Well, I am filled with frustrating feelings. But I think I was able to execute the FP performance relatively well, so I think I made some achievement. (As regards your earlier phrase of ‘real quads era’) Yes, both Nathan who was first and Uno who was third jumped a wide variety of quads and they both bravely challenged 3As, too. So I do feel that we have entered into a difficult era which demands difficult kinds of quads to be executed with a high quality. (It is a challenging era) but I am enjoying it :)

2) (6’40” to 7’05”) (At the K&C to Brian), yay, I managed to land 4 quads and two 3As!! (At the green room, Shoma said to Yuzuru that it was awesome and he was surprised.)  Yeah, I did them for the first time; I had never done that even during practice, hee, hee!

3) (8’05” – 8’35”) (at the green room, after Nathan’s FP) Ahhh, I might not be able to beat that. Oh this makes me feel so nervous; the colour of the medal will change. I want gold, a gold medal, give me gold! (After Nathan was announced to be the winner) AAAAGGGHHHH!!!! (Walking towards backstage) it’s because of the popped salchow, popped salchow!!!

4) (8’55” – 13’26”) Yes, I do feel frustrated, but I have managed to execute two 4Ts in the second half for the first time as I attempted, which is an achievement. Also, I managed to keep my calmness at the same time of performing in line with the music, so I think that was a big achievement for me. (When did you think of changing the elements?) Well, so first, 4S (in the second half) became 2S. After doing a half-loop, I thought of challenging 4S (as a third jump of the combination) but I thought it’s a bit too difficult, so I didn’t. (The interviewer confirming what he said) Yes, indeed I did think of doing 4S (as the third jump), because I was able to do it during practice, so I was about to do it, but I didn’t. After that, I concentrated on the next 4T, then at (the next element which was) 3A+3T (though originally 2T), I was doing a practice to replace this (combination) with 4S, so it came to my mind if I should do it, but I didn’t. And after that, as for 4T+2T (which replaced the originally planned 3A+1L+3S), I found that I had some energy left, so I thought ‘oh let’s do 4T + 2T!’ and I did it. (So, you were thinking and changing right before jumping at one time) Yes, indeed, I felt several conundrum and wondered at each situation, and I had lots of reflection. I had to think of lots of things including the number of combinations or repetitions according to the rules, so it (changing so many elements during the performance) was the first trial for me, so I was skating with lots of thoughts. (At the end, you did 3A) yes, I was going to do 3Lz, but I noticed that I could jump 3A, so I did it as it seemed possible. Yes, so I was thinking one by one, while feeling the music, too, so I didn’t feel much difficulty and I think my breathing was stable during skating. (As for 4Lo), especially this time, I was able to land clean 4Lo both in SP and FP with high GOEs, so in this sense, it was such a big achievement. In addition, especially this time as well as the last time (probably GPF?), I think I was able to concentrate on every jump after executing the first 4Lo, especially in the FP. So the remaining task is for me to learn from every mistake I made during this SP and FP.  (About 4S), Well, my condition for 4S is not bad; (but) this time at the competitions, I couldn’t land two 4Ss, so to be honest, I was about to lose my confidence (in 4S), and it made me wonder a bit. But I am able to execute it properly during practice, and my real ability has already mastered how to jump 4S. So, I think I should work harder towards the World while confirming (checking and working on each of his mistakes and problems) one by one. (About your PCS at 94.34), well, I think I could have done better. Because of the failure of 4S, my performance got ruptured, which I have to improve. That (4S) is one of the elements I could aim higher in terms of TES, too. (As for your rivals) Well, especially the multiplicity of quads and 3A of Nathan is a big thing. I myself have two 3As in the second half, but Nathan was not originally good at 3A, so in that sense, I am amazed with and admire his mental strength. (Finally as for the Worlds) I have already achieved a complete form of performances during practice, so I would like to increase the probability of executing such complete performances, so that I can execute perfect performances at the Worlds. (nodding :) )

5) (14’15” – 14’ 45”) (At the earlier press conference at the venue), I think I am getting better every year, and what I do has been getting harder and harder. I very much like this feeling that I am challenging my own limits. I think this silver medal is the one I have most enjoyed (as far as silver medals at 4CC are concerned). From now on, we have no idea who will challenge jumping 4Lz or 4F, and there is a possibility that someone will challenge 4A. So, I find the (current development of) the figure-skating so exciting, and I am looking forward to practicing even more.

6) (15’50” – 17’25”) (Do you have anything you have found as a pre-Olympic?) Yes, I do. It (the rink) was easy for me to jump, at a comfortable temperature, and the sound acoustic was quite good. So I feel it is a very good rink for me. (Are you even more excited?) Yes, I do have a strong desire that I would like to come back and skate here, by all means. (About yourself in 1 year’s time) I would like to become even stronger. Not only executing jumps, but also I would like to elevate the quality of 3A and quads. While doing so, I should do more performance, become more expressive, and improve the quality of each element. All these things. So, all in all, this competition has stimulated my desire to improve myself even more, in a good sense. (I feel your frustration as well as passion from you now) Yes, indeed, I am burning inside me :) (In terms of rivals) Of course, the existence of rivals counts, but I have frustrating feelings that my own performance was quite pathetic. So I would like to clear one (problem) at each time.

7) (30’55” – 31’45” ) (After his EX performance)  It was such an awful exhibition performance. I did practise it, I was doing practice properly. Well, it’s a little hard (because of so many events with short intervals in a day). Now I realise that triple toeloop [he intentionally said slowly] is a difficult jump. I should have done 3F, which I did practice. OMG, this is awful, it haunts me a lot. My frustration with FP is gone.  No, it’s OK; there is one more time, one more time, one more time; there is the Finale.  (footage of gala: he did a 3T during gala finale)

8) (33’10” - end ) (Message to all fans) Thank you so much for all your cheers for me during this competition as well. From all of you who came to the venue, those cheering for me in front of the TV as well as those watching on internet, I received lots of lots of power. In terms of the final result, it ended up with being 2nd, but I feel that the reason why my FP was first is because of all your encouragement. I will continue to elevate my level and do my best from now on, so please keep cheering for me!

sheepgalaxy  asked:

Hi! So I saw a post that said the Black Lion wants a pilot who's a confident leader and Shiro seems confident but is full of doubt and fear while Keith has confidence in his decisions and that's why he's better for black, and I wondered if you had any thoughts about that? I can find the post again and link it to you if you'd prefer to see the whole thing! But I just... really disagree with that logic and can't seem to put why into words. I have no doubt in my mind that Shiro is the true (cont)

Black Paladin and know it’s the same for you, but I was just curious if you had any thoughts about that particular reasoning for the switch. It doesn’t sound right at all to me and I think it has a lot of things wrong, I just can’t say why I think so exactly. It also said Shiro doesn’t have a place on the team anymore and it really makes me sad that people think that honestly. Keith, Allura, and Shiro are all my faves and none of them is more deserving of a spot on the team than the other imo.

okay i have to tell you that you said “I saw a post dragging Shiro and saying Keith’s the better leader” and i instantly thought “i bet i know who this is” and i went to their blog and LO AND BEHOLD it was the EXACT person i was thinking of, so no - i don’t need you to link me the post lmao.

the reason why the logic seems wrong to you is because it’s garbage. i mean, let’s look at the actual CANON characteristics of the Lions, shall we?

The Black Lion:

Allura: “The Black Lion is the decisive head of Voltron. It will take a pilot who is a born leader and in control at all times, someone whose men will follow without hesitation.”

Keith is not in control of anything, ever. He is volatile and unpredictable and prone to emotional outbursts. No one on the show has ever followed him without hesitation. They’ve followed Shiro, though. When they all find the Blue Lion in the pilot, Lance explicitly defers to Shiro’s authority as the senior officer - i.e. he is prepared to follow him without hesitation:

Lance: “Shiro, you’re the senior officer here. What should we do?”

The Red Lion:

Allura: “The Red Lion is temperamental and the most difficult to master. It’s faster and more agile than the others, but also more unstable. Its pilot needs to be someone who relies more on instincts than skill alone.”

I mean… she basically just described Keith. Look at this and tell me it’s not “relying on instinct” and “unstable”:

The other Paladins here are not “following without hesitation”. They are screaming in terror. This is not the mark of a natural born leader.

Keith is not the Black Lion’s “true Paladin” because the Black Lion doesn’t actually value confidence or bravado. She values leadership and compassion and trust, and Mr. “Shut Up and Trust Me” over here is not a team player who commands the unquestioning confidence of his men. He’s the wildcard. And that’s fine! That’s who he is! But it also makes him spectacularly unsuitable to lead Voltron - something I wrote about extensively in {this meta about Keith’s leadership style compared to Shiro’s}. And if you read that you’ll notice that everything I said about Keith’s leadership style was borne out by the first three episodes of season 3: Keith ran off on his own, didn’t consult with others, always wanted to do his own thing, bossed everyone around and didn’t listen to their ideas, and failed at handling interpersonal conflicts. (Especially when it came to dealing with Lance’s insecurities. That scene where Lance came to Keith’s room for comfort and validation? Shiro would have handled that WAY differently.)

Despite what people will try and tell you in the weeks/months leading up to season 4, Keith is not the “true Black Paladin” who was “supposed to lead all along” and Shiro has never struggled to bond with his Lion or pilot her. He never struggled to rally the team and form Voltron, the way Keith struggled in season 3. And I will probably write a whole long meta about this and go into more detail, but the point is: Shiro in canon is very closely bonded to Black. Look at this:

This happened in the SECOND EPISODE, when Shiro managed to nail an “expert level drill” on his first try, despite it being an exercise Coran described as something they should only really try if they’d been piloting the Lions for years.

Keith hasn’t even seen through the Red Lion’s eyes yet, LET ALONE Black’s. If he’s the “true Black Paladin”, why didn’t we see him bond more with the Black Lion in season 3? Why did he struggle with her so much? Why couldn’t he jump in and instantly form Voltron with the others?

Shiro managed to rally the team to form Voltron after flying the Black Lion for less than twenty minutes. Keith - who’s been flying a Lion for months, has experience of forming Voltron with the others, and has flown the Black Lion before - failed utterly to form Voltron on his first try. Because he’s not a born leader like Shiro is - like Voltron and the Black Lion needs.

The fact is that Shiro does have doubts and insecurities - that is also canon - but those qualities make him a BETTER Black Paladin, not a worse one. Remember that the Black Lion has already had a Paladin who was supremely confident in his own decisions and didn’t listen to others and selfishly did his own thing at incredible risk to everyone else:

…how did that work out, huh?

I have also written extensively about how Shiro {probably thinks the Black Lion wants a Paladin more like Keith}, but how the Black Lion {in fact relates to Shiro more because they have both been through similar traumatic experiences at the hands of Zarkon}. And this still stands: Zarkon related to the Black Lion through control; his approach to trying to get her back was to force himself on her and try to overpower her with his energy. The Black Lion was there for Zarkon’s slow descent into a power-hungry dictator who only viewed the Lions as weapons and tools to be used. She was there for Zarkon’s betrayal of his fellow Paladins, and for the war that was fought for control of Voltron. That’s why she values trust and co-operation and it’s why she chose Shiro as her Paladin.

Shiro’s entire relationship with the Black Lion is characterised by trust. He trusts her implicitly in the nosedive exercise - and she returns that trust and lets him see through her eyes. He trusts her suggestions for things like the jawblade or using the bayard. When she spits him out in 1x11, he trusts that it’s not voluntary and refuses to give up on her. Whilst he doubts and questions whether or not she really wants him as Paladin, his commitment to piloting her never wavers. Shiro fights for the Black Lion, time and time again: he goes back for her, he battles Zarkon in the astral plane for her - he goes to her and asks her to bond with him, to trusts him and believe in him - and she does. She trusts him with her past and her history. And then in 2x13 she asks him to trust her when she raises up the bayard slot on her console, as if to say: “trust me. we can get it back if we work together” and Shiro understands. He trusts her enough to charge full-tilt at Zarkon with no idea what’s about to happen, all to get back the bayard the Black Lion lost all those centuries ago.

Like Shiro says to Zarkon on the astral plane: “It’s not about control. It’s about earning each other’s trust.”

Do not let anyone tell you that Shiro isn’t the true Black Paladin. These people are deliberately ignoring large parts of canon in order to argue that Shiro somehow isn’t really Black’s Paladin or his bond with her is weak. That argument is garbage. If his bond with his Lion was so weak, he never would’ve been able to retrieve his bayard. He never would’ve been able to see through her eyes, or experience her memories.

Shiro is the only true Black Paladin. Keith is the true Red Paladin. He might be sitting in Black’s pilot seat right now, but he’s not the Black Paladin and he never will be. There is only one true Black Paladin on the show, and that’s Shiro.

How to Print and Price your Stuff

The main example used here is posters (and other print items for simplicity sake), but I do mention other items and what I talk about here applies to pretty much all produced products (posters, mugs, key chains, bookmarks, comic books, etc.)

Here’s some advice based on my own experiences and research.

General Pricing:

8″x10″ posters are usually at least $10 and up. Posters Larger than that are usually at least $15 or $20 and up.

For a larger poster $45 can be perfectly acceptable especially if the content is particularly fantastic or detailed.

The exact amount really depends on you, art level, size of poster, printing costs, printing method, etc. Don’t under price your art, but don’t expect to sell a lot of and 8″x10″ print for $50 a piece unless your art is really frickin’ spectacular.

[Original art (not a print, an original, like a physical painting or sculpture) are a different story. Original paintings and the like can go for larger amounts, but your only selling the individual painting once. This will focus more on production of multiple prints and copies.]

Selling Factors:

How do you plan on selling these? For physical copies, if you’re not going to be at a convention or booth, online there’s

Shipping cost

to consider. Will shipping be an added on cost or will the poster price be higher and shipping free? (If you’re doing free shipping make sure to put that where it’s well visible. People always like free.) Also make sure to account for overseas shipping which can be way pricier.

Also consider deals.
Buy 2 get 3rd 50% off can help encourage people to buy more and raise your sales, but you have to willing to sell your product for that price. Other deals that are common are Buy $X or more and get free shipping, Buy X# of products and get free commission doodle or bookmark or other little trinket (doodles can be requests that you post on your blog rather than physically ship), Buy full set for $50 (instead of the $60 it would cost to buy them all separately), and other things in this vein.

Production:

Are you going through a site where you never actually touch the product (ie. RedBubble) or are you handling all the printing and shipping yourself?

Online Sites and 3rd Party Vendors:
If your going through a site that handles all the production and shipping it can be good since it’s very hands off. On the payment side though here are some question you need to check:

Speech-Language Pathology (sorry for the novel- I'm just really passionate about linguistics and SLP)

Hey, so I’ve seen some posts about jobs/applications of linguistics on a few different linguistics blogs now. One field I think many people don’t consider is speech-language pathology. Granted, it’s an entirely different degree; however, I was fortunate enough to attend a school that allowed me to get a bachelors in both linguistics and speech-language pathology. SLP deals a lot more with treating language and speech issues, but still requires a vast background knowing about language.

In undergrad, half of my linguistics courses and SLP courses were cross-listed/the exact same class. So getting an extra bachelors took just one extra semester and was very manageable. Often what I was learning in one class was reinforced in another. If I’m being 100% honest, linguistics is my passion. I could study nothing but languages for the rest of my life and be totally happy. However, another one of my passions is being able to help people and make a difference in their lives. And that’s where SLP comes in.

Almost everyone (that I’ve met) in the SLP field has pretty much stuck to SLP/communication sciences and disorders (aka CSD), and will know a lot about language acquisition, articulation, various disorders, etcetera. However, having a linguistics degree/background (like I do) has provided a whole different level of depth to my understanding of the SLP field. Having studied phonology, syntax, and language change in not only English (my native tongue), but in also other languages, has given me insight to working with my clients that a lot of my peers don’t have. Often, CSD focuses on the language you plan on working with (in my case, English) and doesn’t always look at language as a whole. Like, why does /t/ become a glottal stop at the end of the word? Well, when you’ve taken a semester of phonology as a linguistics major, it’s easier to see and notice subtle nuances that most individuals in the field just don’t recognize. Having a background in linguistics has been nothing but beneficial to me in this field.

Speech-language pathology is a growing field (it’s still relatively new, compared to a lot of other fields), and it offers a TON of different opportunities. As a clinician, a speech pathologist can literally work with a person from the time they’re born (literally as an infant) all the way up until a person is on their deathbed. Granted, most people pick a certain specialty to focus on (e.g., stuttering, aphasia, autism, accent reduction, etc.), there’s always the opportunity to change things up and start working with a different population- that way, you never get bored. Currently, I’m working with a 3 year old and a 47 year old. So, as you can imagine, my therapy is very different. Not only is each day a new day with that client, but one day I’m crawling on the floor laughing and singing, and the next I’m working with a gentlemen on spelling his kids’ names.

With your bachelor degree in SLP, you can work as a speech-language pathology assistant (and it pays pretty well). With your masters degree (a couple more years of schooling and passing a national certification exam) you can do anything from work in a hospital, a school, or own your own private practice. Like I said, the possibilities are limitless.

All in all, I’ve seen such improvements in my clients. I’ve laughed with them, I’ve cried with them. I’ve had parents thank me while wiping the tears away from their eyes because their child has accomplished things they were once told they would never be able to accomplish something.

This field has been tremendously rewarding. I wake up every day looking forward to the differences I can make in another person’s life, another person’s language. As linguists, I’m sure we all recognize the vital role that language and communication plays in our day-to-day lives. As a speech pathologist, you get to help improve the quality of life for others via language and their communication.

I would highly, highly encourage anyone looking for a job/career path that’s passionate about languages to look more into speech-language pathology. Not only does one get to apply something they’re passionate about (i.e., language), but there’s an opportunity to make a difference- even if it’s just in one person’s life. And the field is constantly growing, with tons of different opportunities out there, across the entire spectrum of a person’s lifespan.

TL;DR- If you love linguistics and also want a nice paying job, you should really look into speech-language pathology.

I've been thinking about panicky Keith a lot lately because I love,,,panicked caretaker Keith. So what about a situation where lance is trapped in a place where the oxygen levels (or if you'd prefer, a poisonous gas is filling the room) are quickly draining and Keith can't do anything but talk to lance on the coms and try to break him out? Also congrats on the blog can't wait to see you grow :0

Lance had been trapped in the lift for what seemed like hours now, he wasn’t quite sure how long it had been, delirium taking over from the sheer lack of oxygen filling his lungs.

He had just wanted to go for a relaxing dip in the pool on his day off, as if he could get so lucky.

Sprawled out on the floor of the altean deathtrap gasping for breath, tears began to fill Lance’s eyes.

All the missions he’d gone on, all the injuries he sustained in the fight to protect the universe and this was how he was going to go; choking on his own breath in an elevator while his closest friends continue on with their day, not even noticing his disappearance.

He’d yelled for them. Over and over, nobody answered. The pain of being so disposable mirroring the ache in his heaving chest.

Mind going fuzzy and vision beginning to blur around the edges, Lance was about to let the appealing thought of an endless slumber take over his body when he heard the com crack on above.

“Lance? Lance! Talk to me buddy?”

“K-keith”

The tears began to flow hard and fast down Lance’s face now, they did care.

“Hang tight Lance we’re getting you out now just breath for me”

Keith was a nervous wreck.

He’d spent the good part of three hours searching the ship top to bottom until Pidge suggested that maybe Lance was trapped in the lift.

Over the coms Keith tried to keep his cool so as not to scare Lance, but truth be told, he was at breaking point.

“Allura get him out NOW!”

“I’m working on it Keith please just try and relax a bit he’ll be fine”

Everyone seemed so calm about the whole situation which made Keith furious.

“How can you say that?! Just listen to him!” Keith screeched before pressing the button to the com so the entire room could hear Lance’s laboured breathing.

Seeing the distress take hold of his fellow paladin, Shiro moved over and placed a hand on Keith’s shoulder.

“I know you’re worried Keith but you’ve gotta be strong for him, okay?”

Sobs now wracking his already shaking form, Keith waited for the affirmative from Allura before rushing out of the crowded room and into the hallway just as the doors of the lift came whooshing open.

Bending down to the crumpled form on the floor he laced his gloved fingers through the other boys damp hair.

Eyes fluttering open, Lance drew in a shaky breath before launching into a coughing fit. Keith positioned himself behind the trembling boy, rubbing his hand up and down his back in the attempt to comfort him. When the harsh coughs had finally subsided Lance allowed himself to fall back into the warm embrace of Keith’s arms.

“H-heyy” he all but whispered, voice strained from his long since forgotten about screams for help.

Tears began to fill Keith’s eyes once more as he starred down at Lance’s beautiful caramel complexion that had been tinged blue from oxygen deprivation.

Practically launching himself onto the blue paladin Keith began to bawl.

“NEVER scare me like that again do you hear me? I was so worried I thought I thought-”

“Ssshh”

Keith was cut off.

“It’s okay, I-i’m okay now” Lance reassured.

“Y-yeah?” Keith sniffled.

“Yeah, you saved me, my knight in fluffy pajama bottoms” Lance joked, shooting Keith a smile that could melt the coldest of hearts.

God, he just couldn’t with this boy.

“Yeah. I’ve got you.”

Any tips for those who wanna learn Japanese to play games on their own

Sorry about the delay in answering this, I wasn’t sure how to word it, and I’m sure my wording’s not going to be great now, but here it goes~

Ahh, and this is going to sound so preachy, but: practice!

If you’re still a beginner or haven’t started learning yet, there are a bunch of resources available online for learning Japanese. You really need to get the basics down first because you’re definitely going to need them. Particles in particular are going to trip you up (they still trip me up orz).

Read A LOT. Not just manga, search for blogs with stuff you’re interested in (otome game blogs are handy as you get useful vocabulary too), purchase some books if you can, try some books you’ve read in English translated to Japanese.

Also, listen to Japanese audio as much as you can—not just songs, but Drama CDs, TV shows, news segments, anything. There are probably some Japanese TV streams still available online somewhere or online streaming sites for shows and so on.

Kanji is hell sometimes no matter what medium—blog, game, book, anything—so you’re going to have to work on that a bit. The problem with kanji in otome games is depending on the quality of the game (PSP vs PS Vita for example) some of the kanji is going to be hard to read. You’re going to have to get used to either picking out the particles to search via particles or find a dictionary you can use handwriting input on and try writing it by hand to find it.

Whether you’re playing a game above your level or not, I can pretty much guarantee you’re still going to be using a dictionary to help every now and then.
I remember when I first started playing otome games, they were just the iOS ones and I was looking up like nearly every fifth word and had no idea what some of the selection choices were. It was great fun to attempt at like midnight lol I’d keep switching between the app and my dictionary and it was sooo time consuming.

I’ve been studying Japanese for a hell of a long time and there’s still a heap I don’t know. I’m still after dictionaries a lot and still marking down stuff I don’t know to either look up later, study, find out what other contexts things can be used it, how this grammar point differs from that one and when to use them, etc, etc.

Like, if you’re really dedicated you can get your Japanese level up quickly enough for otome games. Hell, you could probably play them now if you have a good dictionary and a good idea about how Japanese grammar works. I mean, as long as you’re consistently working on it and challenging yourself with it you’re going to improve.

I’m not sure if any of that ramble above is helpful, so I’m just gonna throw in some links from here and hope that they help lol

Shiro can do magic

a masterpost of evidence

*wheels in conspiracy board* okay kids settle down, today’s lesson: Shiro is Altean and can do magic!

I’ve made several individual posts about this, so here’s a masterpost summarising all the main evidence I’ve gathered so far in support of the theory that Shiro can do magic/manipulate quintessence. The numbers in brackets are references to other posts, which are all listed at the bottom along with links to the originals. The original posts have more detail (including evidence, screencaps, discussions etc.) so if you’re not sure on any points please read through the references.

The fundamental theory goes like this:

  • Shiro has some kind of Altean ancestry and is a magical/sacred Altean with the same powers and abilities as Allura
  • When Haggar experimented on him in the Galra prison, she activated his dormant magical abilities, turning his hair white
  • Haggar gave him his prosthetic arm to both activate his magical powers and change his natural Altean quintessence to the more corrupted Galra version, which is why the arm glows pink/purple
  • We have seen Shiro do magic several times on the show, but it has not been acknowledged as such

I’ve put the main body of this under a readmore so I can update it as necessary and hopefully it will update in all the reblogged versions too. And now… to the theories! *x-files theme starts playing in the next room*

Hi Lily! Good luck with your blog!! Can I request (headcanonned) reactions of TFP Bee, Smokescreen, MTMTE Rodimus, Ratchet, and Swerve reacting to a human's voice going high pitched because they inhaled helium?

I love this! It’s a cute ask, it made me giggle just thinking about it. Ah, how easily humans can be entertained (I feel like the bots here are thinking that too). Thanks for sending this and with all characters I absolutely adore?? You’re awesome! :D

Smokescreen:

  • His s/o inhales helium with the other kids, all of them goofing around and having a good time. He doesn’t notice until they call out to him with their silly voice and for a moment, he just looks around confused. Who was that? Nobody he knows has such a high pitched, weird voice.

  • When he realizes it’s his s/o, he’s immediately delighted. That’s so cool! Not to mention hilarious, do it again s/o! His s/o starts singing and he’s laughing, he can’t help himself. Even when Ratchet grumpily yells at them to be quiet, the two continue to snicker to themselves. He keeps asking for s/o to say certain things.

  • Eventually, it goes on so long that everyone else begins to get irritated. So they have to stop and Smokescreen is totally disappointed.  But every once in a while, when the two sneak out for a drive, they’ll do it again and amuse themselves till they’re both crying from laughing so hard.

Bumblebee:

  • Bee’s s/o is also messing around, blowing up balloons and sucking out the helium with the other kids. But when he hears how it changes their voices, he’s super curious. How does that work?? He makes a series of inquisitive beeps and whirs to let his s/o know he wants to learn more about what’s going on.

  • Once Raf explains it to him, Bee can’t help but feel light-hearted. He watches his s/o have fun and pokes them occasionally to remind them to keep going. Say this, say that! At one point he lifts them up in his hands to eye level and they tell him they love him with their helium voice. He’s caught between laughing (in his own way) and being embarrassed. He settles for giving them happy nudges with his head.

  • He definitely goes around to the other Autobots and shows off what his s/o can do. He knows the other kids can too but somehow, it’s more special when his s/o does it. Interrupts everybody in their work or relaxation time to excitedly show them his s/o’s voice. He becomes a bit pouty when no one cares but his s/o cheers him up~

Swerve:

  • He’d die … of laughter! No seriously, he would be laughing so hard coolant would start leaking out of his optics. It shouldn’t be that funny but to him it is. Humans are already so freaking weird and now, by simply breathing in some helium their voices sound ridiculous? What a riot!

  • Swerve decides (once he’s calmed down) that he has to try this for himself. He knows it probably won’t affect him the way it does his s/o (it definitely won’t) but it just looks like so much fun! Ooo maybe if he tries it in his holomatter avatar?

  • After he’s gotten that out of his system, all he wants to do is get his s/o to say different hilarious things with their high pitched voice. The two spend the rest of the day recording the s/o saying weird stuff and then running around playing it for others.

Ratchet:

  • His first reaction would be to look over at his s/o goofing off with this completely straight, stone cold face. He just watches them as they talk with a high pitched voice, before reaching up to rub the spot between his optics. Somebody save him, his s/o is just too much sometimes.

  • But when he looks at them again, they’re laughing, still in a high pitched voice. They look so darn happy and he can’t help but feel his spark jump in his chest. Well they are rather cute now that he thinks about it …

  • He wouldn’t join in or encourage them but the slight smile lingering on his lips is enough to tell his s/o that deep inside he’s a bit amused. It’s more just that he enjoys seeing them having a good time, even if it is rather silly. He quickly gets a headache though and takes away the helium. Party pooper. :P

Rodimus:

  • The first time he hears the affect the helium has on his s/o’s voice, Rodimus falls out of his captains chair. Not on purpose of course but he just wasn’t expecting … that. It’s so weird! Why does your voice sound like that s/o? Someone tries to explain it to him but he gets bored. He doesn’t really care he just chalks it up to humans being humans.

  • For a little while, he’s content to have a good time laughing over the silliest sayings and words his s/o speaks with their high pitched voice. But then he gets a great idea - s/o! You should do your funny voice over the intercom! He finds a way to hook it up so the whole ship can hear the two of you being giant nerds.

  • Legit, these two pretend to be ‘serious’ and make important announcements while the s/o still has their silly voice, until Ultra Magnus barges into Rodimus’ office. There’s a lot of screeching and a high pitched yelp before the intercom is cut off. Later on at Swerve’s bar, Rodimus and his s/o are still laughing about it. Needless to say, Ultra Magnus banned the fun times with helium after that. :P

The Music Industry~

OKAY, so under this cut you’ll find a list of #55 jobs your characters can hold in the music industry aside from classic band members/solo artists. I know for bandom RP especially it can be hard to come up with unique jobs for OCs that still enable them to create connections. I’ve organized everything into categories for easy searching and defined even the most intuitive titles, so hopefully this helps!

Hello, yes, hi, I recently found your art and account and I love what you do. I'm turning 14 in April and I've asked for a drawing pad, but I have no idea how to use one as of yet. Have you got any tips or anything? Because I've wanted to try digital art for a while and your art makes me want to even more lmao. Thanks! - B.A.

BOI OH BOI DO I GOT SOME TIPS FOR U <3

(I’m not sure what kind of comp you’re going to be using, so I’ll list for both.)

FIRST: Drawing Programs; the free and the great.

-Firealpaca: Lightweight drawing program. I draw Recovery using this! It’s easy on the RAM if you have a weak comp/are paranoid about yours like I am, it is mainly for basic comic making, and has all the basic brushes you need (pen/pencil/airbrush/symmetry/etc). You can add your own brushes as well but they’re p basic settings. Has basic Animation/Gif making as well using Onion Mode! Layout is a piece of cake. Please note that If you leave it open for a week it’ll crash on you, even if you haven’t anything on it at the moment, and sometimes the brush sensitivity just stops working so you just have to close and then open it again. (Also I have no idea how to update it aside from deleting it completely and just downloading the new version from scratch, so thats a thing.) Mac/Windows

-MedibangPaint: This is basically FireAlpaca But Better. Has tons of screen tones, brush patterns, and tools. I don’t use it much because I’m used to FA’s layout and get confused with the the placement of tools in here, so if you can I highly suggest just going with this first. Also has basic animation/gif making! Has storage for the website as well, and you can upload more preset brushes. It’s v anime. This program has waaay more in terms of basically everything, so it just takes more RAM. NBD, you don’t have to have every brush downloaded from the storage ^u^. Mac/Windows

-Clip Studio Paint: Okay this one isn’t free, it’s a pricey one, HOWEVER once a year they take the price way fuckin down by at least 75%. Sign up for the email list and it’ll let you know when that precious day comes. It’s how I got it @u@, around christmastime? This program is basically MedibangPaint On Steroids. I do all of my digital-yet-tradition-style-painting on here! The brushes all have some neat af settings to play with, you can make your own brushes, has tons of screen tones, pre-made panels, and settings. You can save projects as basically anything you need, is a hardy program that almost never crashes, and It’ll take a nice chunk of space on your comp depending on how much memory you have but hey, its worth it. It’s much more complex layout-wise than the other two here, but you get used to it after playing around and watching tutorials haha.

-Mischief: It’s a 25$ app, has like four brushes and five layers only but is vector-based with an endless canvas. Not really worth having unless you like the vector thing. UP TO YOU. I spent forever with this one doing all that homestuck stuff, so it’s not really bad so much as it is a basic bitch. Mac

-MyPaint: I used this a bunch when I still did digital art on my windows laptop before I upgraded to a Mac. It’s easy on the comp and has plenty of brushes and settings. You can also get brush packages if you don’t feel like you have enough that comes with the program! Also has endless canvas; pretty sure you can just select an area and then export as is. I barely remember the rest but It’s pretty great. Windows/MacPorts(which I hate)

-GIMP: I hate this thing. I cannot figure it out for the life of me. It’s got loads of shit though, can handle layers, has plenty of brushes, and can do basic animation/gifs if you ever figure it out. Windows/mac

I’ve heard good things from paint tool SAI and Krita as well, but have never used them myself.

***You can always pay through the nose/use a student discount for the photoshop series and pay that shit monthly, those fuckers have literally everything, but I am a cheap college kid making minimum wage with a car payment; I’d rather just pay once/not at all.

TABLETS: treat that shit like a newborn babe 24/7

-I have literally only ever owned a Wacom Intuos4. It has lasted me six years, and at least five moves across many miles. I broke one of the cord ports the day I opened it by holding it wrong, have one left, and now treat it like it’s going to die if the cord moves badly. Please be aware that if you break both ports, you better either sodder it back together yourself or upgrade to smth else because it costs about as much as the tablet itself was bought at to be fixed. Good news, though, it comes with at least six extra pen nibs, has programable buttons on the side (that I have never bothered to use) and a scroll bar in case you’re too lazy to use the keyboard (…I don’t really use that either unless I’m just scrolling through tumblr LMFAO).

-I would die for a Cintiq.

HOT TIPS: its useful.

-most of the programs listed use the same keyboard shortcuts. MEMORIZE THEM. It’s pretty easy, since you’ll use em a lot. [cntrl/cmmd+T] lets you resize what you just drew on that layer, and [cntrl/cmmd+z] is undo. I use those the most, for obvious reasons.

-vector-based programs are pretty great because when you resize an image it looks prefect. You can’t do that with a program that isn’t, so I just resize the base roughdraft and draw the lineart again on the layer above so I don’t get weird JPEG quality lines.

-You can use a ruler with your tablet, just slap it on and go, but honestly most programs have settings for that. just use those.

-You can also trace stuff on your tablet, so long as the paper isn’t too thick. I just scan/take a photo and then open it up in the program, though. much easier.

-SAVE CONSTANTLY. Art programs like to crash on you, even when they’re hardy and you have a good comp. make it a habit to quick save your work.

-Use a desk and have good posture. You’ll be able to draw a hell of a lot longer if you do. I personally keep fucking up my knees by sitting on my legs as I work out of habit, and don’t actually have a desk chair. Keep your screen at eye level and at a fair distance to prevent eyestrain and also neck-strain haha

-Chances are you won’t be used to the tablet right away. Most places you buy from say it’ll take a couple of months to get used to how weird it is to draw while not looking at your own hand, so don’t be frustrated If your drawings look a bit off at first.

-if you draw at least one thing every day, by the end of the year you’ll have improved exponentially. I literally made this blog to make myself draw once a day.

-don’t be afraid to check out speedpaints and tutorials. It’s always good to get more familiar with the program you’re using and new techniques previously unconsidered.

-get familiar with clipping layers. They are insanely useful; you clip one layer to the one below and then when you draw it only shows up on the drawing of that layer below. Shit is a godsend if you’re bad at coloring in the lines/lazy. The bucket tool is also really useful, and you can adjust the expansion by pixel so you don’t miss anything between the lines.

-experiment with your brushes, shit be fun af

-warmup your wrists before and after drawing. prevent swollen veins and such. dont want hand pain/numbness, its reaaaaally bad.

—basically if your hands hurt stop for the day.

-PNGS are for internet, JPEGS are for printing/fucking with quality (cough hack homestuck)

-resolution doesn’t have to be much more than 350 dpi if its just going to be on a webpage. Maximize that shit if you’re going to be printing, though. Especially if you put stuff on redbubble.

-DeviantArt has this thing called Sta.sh where you can dump art, keep it in perfect quality and just share it with certain people with a link instead of all of the website. Great for storing commission pieces, its the only reason I have DA in the first place.

-you get a different audience depending on what site you use for posting art, so keep that in mind for the kind of feedback you want.

-after awhile of drawing using a tablet, you may lose patience/forget that in traditional art there isn’t an undo button lmfao It’s cool; you don’t have to choose one over the other or anything.

-Honestly you can work around almost anything. You just invent new ways and techniques for yourself and you’ll do just fine.

Aaaaand that’s all I got for today! Thanks for sticking around <3
