also this is me messing with coloring and experimenting

5

The Adventures of Bailey and Hector continue as they both meet Lillie and save Cosmog, and then are saved by Tapu Koko!

This one was a big background challenge for me. Not only did I have to reference in game cutscenes for angles and details, but I also had to experiment with color and lighting due to both scenes taking place at completely different times.

Sun’s coloring was pretty simple, since the daylight let me get away with just using color references I had, but I had to mess with the hues and saturation of Moon, which is why those two pages look fairly different in lighting and color.

Like my art? Be sure to check out my Redbubble store!

I’m going to start making lists of the things I find myself oft repeating to customers (especially now that I work at a beauty supply store, the name of which I’m not allowed to say).

Hair colors:

  • you cannot lighten your hair several shades without bleaching it. It just won’t happen. You want to go blonde but you don’t want to bleach your hair? sorry, it’s not going to happen. “but what if I just put this semi-permanent hair dye on top of my very dark brown?” your hair might be a little bit shiny? but I mean you’re not gonna get the advertised vivid color.
  • There are four kinds of hair dye: temporary, semi-permanent, demi-permanent, and permanent. The first one is obvious, it washes out with one or two shampoos. Semi permanent dye will also wash out, but it will take maybe a month, and it’ll more likely just go kind of pastel. Demi-permanent is the same, but it fades out instead of washing out. Permanent color might fade in the sun or if you go swimming a lot, but other than that it is not going to go anywhere.
  • Do not under any circumstances buy your hair dye at a drug store. Please go to Sally’s.
  • There’s a semi-permanent brand called Ice Cream (I think?). I have never heard a single good thing about them.
  • Manic Panic is a good semi-permanent hair dye to get yourself started, as it’s often sold in places such as Hot Topic or Trivium. HOWEVER, MP fades very quickly, especially with their more red or pink dyes. If you’re looking for a red dye that will stick very well, try the One ‘n’ Only Argon Oil brand.
  • Argon oil has a natural red pigment. If you want to be blonde or ashy or grey (etc.) do not buy any product that includes argon oil (including shampoos or hair masks!)

Makeup:

  • please don’t buy your makeup from Sally’s. Their stuff is usually terrible, ie. they have like maybe four shades of foundation and they’re all varying shades of white
  • NYX matte cream lip colors are absolutely fantastic. You can find them at shoppers drug mart. These things go on smoothly, dry matte, and don’t feel like they’re heavy at all. Above all else: super bold color! My fave is called ‘vintage’.
  • Despite NYX having fantastic lip products, their mascara is shit. I bought one that was kind of a clear gooey fluid with tiny black flecks in it?? like guys pull your shit together.
  • GOSH BB creams are super nice and light, great for when u need a little bit of coverage to last you in a casual setting, and they’re a bit cheaper than your usual Sephora fare.
  • on that note, GOSH also has an amazing eye primer that looks kind of like a white crayon? Goes on white, and holds any color you put on it with an amazing vibrancy.
  • Check out BH cosmetics for some cheap eye shadow palettes that have a wide variety of color! I’ve got their galaxy palette (which is just as great as it sounds) but I also have a 99 color palette. Coupled with the GOSH eye primer everything is beautiful. (b/c these are ‘cheaper’ brands, without an eye primer the colors don’t show up as well.)
  • Don’t laugh but Forever 21 has a really great cream contour palette. Keep in mind though I’m super white, so if you have a darker skin tone this cream palette doesn’t go darker than, like, “orange” tan.
  • Ipsy bags and other monthly makeup kits of $20-$25 are actually surprisingly worth it. Ipsy, for example, customizes your kit a bit more to your skin tone/hair color/eye color/skin type. A good way to learn new brands and try new products.
  • If you are going to be in front of a camera, do not under any circumstances use shimmer. I’m talking shimmer powders, shimmer highlighters, even if your primer advertises ‘glow’ or if your foundation is ‘luminous’. Any kind of shimmer will catch the light and reflect it strongly into the lens.
  • Same goes for SPF.  If your foundation/BB cream/anything really has a bit of sunscreen/SPF, that will also catch the light and reflect strongly into the camera.
  • If you are self-conscious about your wrinkles, avoid shimmer products. They will highlight your skin and cause a large contrast with your creases.
  • If you want to make your lips look larger, use shimmers, glosses, and/or light colors. paler colors will make any space look larger, whereas dark colors (like NYX’s Vintage, for example, or bold reds) will make your lips a little bit smaller.
  • those wedge sponges you can get for like $3 a bag are actually really really good for your foundations. Esp if you’re doing makeup for multiple people. I actually find sponges apply liquid and cream foundations/contours/highlighters a lot better than brushes, as they’re a lot less streaky.
  • Don’t go overboard with your setting powder if you’re going to be on camera/on stage, as heavy application of your setting powder will also come out as pure white in photos.
  • Use rubbing alcohol to clean your makeup brushes. It evaporates faster than water, is less likely to mess with the glue holding your brushes together, and sanitizes everything it touches.

off the top of my head this is all I can think of tonight but expect there to be more in the future, as I continue to try to explain to people why they can’t just throw color on their hair and expect it to be Just Fine.

(also if anyone has any questions or suggestions go ahead and send them!!)

BTS x Reader

Observing the vibrantly colored classroom buzz with energy, you tiredly leaned back in your chair, an airy sigh escaping from your parted lips. Young energizer bunnies zoomed past the large cherry wood desk, shrieking with either exhilaration or terror as they chased one another round and round, blocks flying all over the place, papers crumpling and rustling noisily, giggles bubbling from the numerous sets of tiny lungs breathing in the air that smelled of waxy crayons and disinfectant wipes. The sight was so hectic and yet strangely heartwarming, and although you often found yourself sighing multiple times throughout the day due to the sheer exhaustion of it all, you knew you wouldn’t rather be anywhere else. Seeing their ecstatic grins, hearing their colorful laughter, gaping at how their little sponge-like minds soaked up so much more knowledge than you expected – these were the little joys you lived for.

You drew in a deep, calming breath, basking in the moment while it lasted. These moments of quiet reflection were rare for you, but whenever you had the chance, they served as a constant reminder as to why you loved your job. It was nice, to be able to drown out all the noise for a couple minutes, or even seconds, and take a breather. But your moment of peace was short lived as your eyes scanned the classroom at the sound of a feathery cry.

Hey I just wanted to say I've been kind of bummed out about my art, I feel like I'm not improving. I was wondering if you could show me a comparison of your old artwork to your recent artwork and maybe some advice? Thanks c: PS your art is so beautiful

Hi! That’s actually a really interesting ask (ʘ‿ʘ) Everybody prepare yourselves bc it’s time to laugh. I’m gonna show you a few of my older drawings to prove that you can achieve a lot only if you work hard uwu

As i said several times it was really, REALLY hard for me to get used to my tablet. It was so different from a normal pencil and a sheet of paper. D; (if you want to see more of my older traditional art visit my deviantart here) For a long time i couldn’t even finish a single painting because i knew from the beginning it was total crap. If i finished something and was actually pleased with the piece, that was usually just a happy accident lol

I bought my tablet (Wacom Bamboo Pen&Touch) in 2014 and started working in Corel Painter 11 because that was one of the softwares my art senpai was using (shoutout to @petite-madame your amazing tips and tutorials helped me a lot back then, thank you!)
I tried really hard to achieve that oil painting texture so i experimented with different brushes all the time.

This is one of my first paintings. I have no idea what was that to be honest. It’s from May 2014.

Another painting is just a perfect example of a huge happy accident. It took around 15 hours to finish? :’D It was a nightmare. And now I think it would take me probably 2 hours because it’s not even a full portrait haha

The next one is a proof that if you’re a beginner you probably don’t want to paint anything with complicated lighting without a decent reference. That was probably my biggest problem because I really wanted to paint full illustrations but had no basic knowledge about lighting, colors and anatomy. Baby steps, that’s the point. Start with simple things and try leaving your comfort zone slowly, step by step. This is also important with art block (at least for me). You probably noticed that I haven’t uploaded anything complicated recently. That’s because I’ve been trying really hard to get rid of that horrible art block and for me only simple paintings can do the work and help me in this situation.

Another painting (again not finished just like 90% of things i’m showing you now) is from December 2014 and you can see I already improved a lot. Stopped messing around that much with different brushes and started using only 2 or 3 (here basic round ones). Also at this point I started using Photoshop CS6.

Yes, yes. Like I told you, I was a Supernatural trash.

When it comes to kpop fanart I started at the beginning of 2015. A lot of experiments with brushes again:

And this happens if you have no idea about colors and still struggle with blending. (April 2015?) Again not finished because I saw it was going nowhere.

The last one is my first ever Jin fanart. Poor Jin, how could I do this to him :’D Again I had no idea how to blend colors. I don’t wanna mention the fact that it doesn’t even look like Jin.

I think this painting was my breakthrough moment when I finally learned something about blending and brushes. After uploading this one and getting positive feedback I finally had more motivation to finish my paintings. I finally noticed the progress after a year of sweating and crying over my tablet. :’D

And some of my recent artworks here (PLEASE DO NOT EDIT/REUPLOAD):

So basically my advice for beginners/art blocked is start simple, watch/read tutorials and speedpaintings that might inspire you or let you to discover something new.

I really hope that my answer motivates and inspires you a bit, my dear anon! I’m sure you’re improving, just look back at your paintings and think about all of the things you’ve learned in the process on your own mistakes and from other people! <3

Thank you for loving my art and good luck! ^^

Moe, i love your art! Can you please help me about how to color skin and clothes? I'm new to sai and I really want to improve, also i don't know how to add a colored background without messing the drawing

Digital art works with layers. the 3 basic ones - according to me - are: lineart, color, background. and for how to color idk what to tell you other than experiment. Mimi has some cool yet simple tutorials to pick less boring color palettes if you want to take a look at them. sorry im not much help.

can we just… appreciate how far i have come? Like… look at that mess to the left. Rosethorn has changed so much through the two years since i made her (also due to getting decent at art cause thats what i was just starting to draw and since ive become a better writer)

I’ve been meaning to do a comparison but that required me to look at old art, anyway, i went through the painful experience, and even though its not fully colored, its so ridiculous. Like i remember drawing the one on the left when i first got a tablet and i did it in like an hour and the one of the right was like 5 minutes wam bam all done. Like look at that claw hand, i slaved over that claw hand bruh, back when i was first getting into the httyd fandom, i draw 3 hands and 2 feet today, like it was obvi horrible but wow, i did that today.

so if y’all are ever feelin down or “my art will never be good” Just draw! Draw everyday! You will get better, here’s proof, theres proof everywhere, back then i hadn’t taken a real art class ever and then one day i picked up a pencil and decided i wanted to draw better, now i’m in a vigorous art class and looking at art colleges!!!! Like???? idk, i just thought it was kinda crazy!

so ya httyd peeps and ya other artists, you can get better, just practice!!!!!

The one thing, even after two years, is i can’t figure out what i would want her racing paint to be….
