One Year: Carnation Books Staff Q&A - Ros

How did you hear about carnation? When did you start working there?

Lee told me about the project, and I thought it was a great idea, and wanted to contribute by working as a editor. I’ve done a lot of editing in the past in various different forms, but never with an LGBT focus before, and that aspect of Carnation is really important to me. I started working in October 2016, I believe

What do you do for Carnation?

Editing. I’m currently working on a gorgeous lesbian romance set in the 1920s. I’ve also contributed to the upcoming anthology.

What’s your main fandom?

My two long-term, forever fandoms are Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Star Trek, especially Deep Space Nine. A the moment, I’m also following Game of Thrones very avidly. With GOT I’m mostly interested in the women characters, especially the Starks.

OTP?

I’m not really an OTP kind of girl. Infinite diversity in infinite combinations. That being said, I adore Jadzia Dax / Kira Nerys (DS9) because they compliment each other so well, and also, they are in love and seeing them together makes me feel swoon-y.

Favorite tropes in fic?

I guess, at heart, I’m all about hurt/comfort. But I’ll read almost anything from gen to kink.

What’s the most fic you’ve read in one sitting?

It’s been a long time since I stayed up all night reading fic. I’m getting old. :P

What are you reading right now?

I’m not following any particular fics right now! I’m currently reading a novel, “The Small Room”, by May Sarton, which is about some very clever women on a college campus in the US in the early 60s.

What are you working on for Carnation right now?

Novel editing.

What would you like to tell people about Carnation?

It’s a really promising and exciting publisher with a great ethos. Lee is very professional and very committed and it’s rewarding to work with her.

Since it’s Carnation’s birthday – what’s the weirdest birthday gift you’ve ever received/given?

I once gave six tins of sardines, boneless and skinless, from Sainsbury’s. They were appreciated.

Many thanks to Ros for participating in our staff survey! We also want to thank everyone who came to our birthday celebration last Friday. We gave out prizes, heard some fantastic fic readings, and had a wonderful time hanging out with our friends!
