also if you don't think this is a parallel i'm sorry but

anonymous asked:

i'm sorry it why do you ship junkrat with mei?? if you haven't noticed or actually played overwatch, you'd know that mei hates junkrat, they despise each other and they're total opposites. and no, opposites don't always attract.

Ladies and Gentleman, we have a first!

In the two or so years I’ve had this blog, I’ve never had an antagonistic anon before. Then again, I only ever started branching out into non-Soul Eater things in September, so maybe this is just what happens when you start to create content for bigger fandoms?

First things first: If you don’t like the content I post, I suggest that you either unfollow my blog or use blacklist to block the tags for content you don’t like. Your Tumblr experience is curated by you. I’ll tag my content to help you blacklist topics you wish to avoid, but it’s ultimately up to each user to take the necessary steps to tailor their dashboard.

Secondly, in sending me a rude ask, you have given me an excuse to talk about a favorite ship of mine. So buckle up, we’ve got a long post incoming!

Why ship Junkrat and Mei? Why ship any two characters?

Take a gander at this post by @chaoticlivi. It’s a pretty exhaustive list of reasons people get invested in the relationship between any two characters. They span from aesthetic and visual tastes (these two look great together!) to more in depth, thematic ones (their relationship embodies a theme I care about). Basically, there are many many reasons to love a ship, and canon rarely has much to do with it.

In general, canon is a box of scraps. This is especially true for Overwatch, which despite its exhaustive lore leaves many holes in character stories and relationships. Nothing in the game itself (which I do play often, btw) is ‘canon.’ The voicelines you hear haven’t actually happened. They are meant to give us insight into the characters, their histories, and their relationships, but you can’t quote them as something Mei or Junkrat have actually said.

In-game content is also in flux. As more shorts and comics come out, as the actual Overwatch lore grows, the game evolves too. It’s possible what’s canon within the game now will change later on.

What I’m saying is, you can point at two voicelines and wave around words like ‘hate’ until you are blue in the face, but that won’t 1) make it canon that Junkrat and Mei will be at odds forever or 2) make me any less likely to ship them.

Now that I’ve got the “shipping doesn’t need a canon basis and Overwatch shipping is a crapshoot built on nearly nothing anyway” part done, I can actually talk about Mei and Junkrat.

amazing post thank you, this fandom is deseparating sometimes, i think is gonna happen happen in s5,but we are getting canon in the next two episodes of this season, because i'm afraid that they are gonna separate them for 5 years for that and because it is in the text they need canon kiss admission of feelings one of them or both.

i agree with you so much, anon! *_*

i honestly don’t know what has gotten into this fandom since the last episode, but browsing through the tag is an incredibly negative experience. everyone is writing pessimistic meta about how “the writers might have changed their mind and are going to keep bellarke platonic” just because their expectations weren’t met and niyla.rke had a scene.

i’m sorry that i’m using this ask to break all of the bullshit down, but i feel like i have to.

a) the niyla.rke scene was intimate, but i genuinely think that people are missing the bigger picture. as @bellamyblakesprotectionsquad2k17 has stated multiple times, the reason why clarke went to niylah is because the two people that she usually goes to for comfort (bellamy/abby) weren’t on her side at the moment. also, it’s canon that niylah isn’t looking for a relationship, and the writer miranda kwok has called the relationship “a friendship” twice already. clarke and niylah are friends with benefits. stop acting like wlw are romantically interested in every woman with whom they have had sex.

b) it rubs me in the wrong way that people are taking bob’s words at a con so literally since bob is the only cast member that has never spoiled anything. he states his personal opinion, which doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with canon. people are constantly like: “bob said this so it can’t happen!!!!!” and honestly, that’s bullshit. actors have very minimal influence on what happens with their character…

c) apparently editing scenes to make them less “romantic”. yes, they did this in season 1, but most likely because they wanted bellamy and clarke’s relationship to be a slow burn. grounds? they have kept developing the relationship in a way that frequently parallels canon romantic pairings on the show (finn/clarke, le.xa/clarke, kane/abby, murphy/emori, octavia/lincoln).

now, people are saying (based on a pair of tweets, mind you) that they have done it again because “bob said so!!!”. we don’t know what the scene was like before it was apparently edited, and still people are acting like this is suddenly a testament to why the writers are keeping bellamy and clarke platonic. in my opinion, it’s ridiculous.

d) has everyone forgotten that this season - even though it’s mostly focused on bellamy and clarke’s seperate character arcs - has repeatedly shown how much bellamy and clarke love each other? this season, it’s canon that they will not live without one another (”if i’m on that list, you’re on that list” - the list was destroyed shortly after that, so the only purpose of making it was to show the fact that bellamy and clarke ~the platonic couple™~ will not live without one another). it’s canon that clarke thinks bellamy is special, which is a word that has only been used on this show in a romantic context. this season, it’s canon that bellamy will never let anything happen to clarke. it’s canon that clarke would let her mother die to save the human race, but not bellamy.

e) this ship has always been a slow burn. nothing has changed. they’re still developing the relationship, and y’all need to understand that it won’t make sense in canon unless bellamy and clarke are ready to love again. this is not new information, peeps. please chill tf out and stop spreading your pessimism all over the tag before you know everything.

it’s really getting on my nerves.

Skam is back in town

So i liked this clip because was very much of the Skam that i like. important moments to remember:

The Trump reference: at start i thought it was a voodoo doll, is really powerful and funny to me

My boyz holding hands: we asked for this for months! this is so pure i low-key cried, Isak with a flower in his hair *start crying again*

I’m still angry at this. i really don’t understand why they choose this song and zoomed on his face while this line… this is so rude why do think my baby is crazy? on episode 4 Sana said “he was sick” i’m still not over this, i was so bitter then now i’m even more.

The line “You’re not alone” is so important for Isak and the fandom, after a season where Isak felt alone this is also rude, i think is a “parallel” and at the end somebody will say to her our favorite line? i don’t know but i don’t like it. Isak now is not alone and she knows it, maybe she is jealous of their relationship we’re too? i was a bit angry at her for having said it but it what she feel at the moment alone

i just hope we will not get another “parallel” ugh

A meeting of the Sans
  • sans1 has just created the room
  • sans2 has joined the room
  • sans1: hey sans.
  • sans2: hi sans.
  • sans1: any change over in your timeline?
  • sans2: eh. not really. the kid keeps botching his genocide run.
  • sans1: they still haven't given up on that, have they?
  • sans2: in a way. they always stop at my bro, thank god. speaking of, how is he on your end? you got a pacifist run, right?
  • sans1: yeah. he's studying for his permit. undyne is teaching him the ropes.
  • sans2: niiiiiice. what caught on fire this time?
  • sans3 has joined the room
  • sans1: nothing, but they did manage to destroy an old warehouse the other day. we've been told we're saving the city millions by letting them practice in destruction zones.
  • sans3: hey sans and sans. talking about papyrus?
  • sans1: hey, sans. yeah, post-pacifist and learning to drive from undyne.
  • sans3: nice. what caught on fire this time?
  • sans1: nothing.
  • sans3: really?
  • sans2: i know, i'm so proud of him.
  • sans3: hey sans. still on botched genocide?
  • sans2: yeah. hope the kid gives up soon, it's giving me a heart attack every time they approach papyrus.
  • sans3: yeah... god i miss him.
  • sans1: don't tell me. genocide?
  • sans3: the kid's taking a break from being dunked on.
  • sans2: how many times have you won?
  • sans3: 107. i know it's only a matter of time, but isn't that approaching the record?
  • sans1: dude, i think the record was 618.
  • sans4 has joined the room
  • sans3: oh man, really? so much for my record.
  • sans4: hey guys. dunking record?
  • sans3: yup. 107.
  • sans4: dude, nice.
  • sans3: oh, actually make that 108. brb
  • sans3 has left the room
  • sans2: christ how does he keep that up?
  • sans1: i hear the sanses in the genocide runs get numb a lot faster.
  • sans2: that's hard to believe for me. i still break into a cold sweat when my papyrus is facing the kid, and he always backs down in my timeline.
  • sans4: they're still at that?
  • sans2: yeah. can we move on to a lighter topic of conversation?
  • sans4: ah man sans, i didn't mean to rattle your bones or anything.
  • sans1: tibia honest, i didn't wanna make light of your situation.
  • sans2: heh. want me to pull papyrus in here? he'd hate this.
  • sans5 has joined the room
  • sans4: nah. he deserves a break every once in awhile.
  • sans5: hey guys. can't stay for long, about to head out. just wanted to check in.
  • sans1: hey sans. what's the rush?
  • sans5: date.
  • sans2: oooooooooh
  • sans1: oh oh oh oh
  • sans4: c'mon spill the beans man
  • sans5: heh, alright. post pacifist, toriel.
  • sans4: i can relate. i'm with toriel in my timeline, too.
  • sans5: how long?
  • sans4: about two years, now. first date on your end?
  • sans5: that obvious?
  • sans4: i can't even see you and i can tell you're rattling your bones.
  • sans2: wait, who's toriel?
  • sans1: the lady behind the door.
  • sans1: let's focus on what's important right now. namely, embarrassing sans before he goes on his first date.
  • sans5: wait. what.
  • sans4: i agree totally. hey sans, toriel really likes touching the rib cage. just saying.
  • sans5: oh
  • sans4: and watch it, she's a cuddler. like, you've seen how she hugs frisk? just wait until she gets her paws on you. like being wrapped in a thick, furry blanket.
  • sans5: oooooooooh
  • sans4: and if it goes well, she has this really cute dress that
  • sans5: i came here to have a good time and i'm honestly feeling so attacked right now
  • sans2: guys if i laugh any harder i'll wake papyrus up
  • sans4: alright alright. seriously though, she prefers white wine, she'll expect a kiss at the end but she'll be fine if you're too flustered, and avoid talking about asgore, unless you immediately turn it into a pun. her favorite is the "my aim is getting better" one. if she's comfortable enough to initiate that herself, you're golden. that help?
  • sans5: yeah. thanks.
  • sans4: also, she has this sweet spot right at her thigh. she'll make this adorable bleating/giggle and you know you've got the right spot.
  • sans5: okay wow it looks like time i should go
  • sans5 has left the room
  • sans4: he'll be fine.
  • sans1: so toriel, huh? weird.
  • sans4: why's that?
  • sans1: honestly, i can't see myself with anyone but mettaton.
  • sans4: oh my god, mettaton?
  • sans2: dude. dude. whoa.
  • sans1: what? what's wrong with that?
  • sans4: my papyrus is dating mettaton in my timeline.
  • sans1: your papyrus is in a relationship? mine's aro.
  • sans2: and meanwhile i'm sitting in a timeline where papyrus just has a huge crush on the rectangle.
  • sans6 has joined the room
  • sans1: that's just... bizarre.
  • sans2: and chatting with parallel timeline versions of yourself isn't?
  • sans1: point taken.
  • sans6: hey guys. what's up?
  • sans4: quick, who are you in a relationship with?
  • sans6: uh... gaster?
  • sans2: ...
  • sans4: uh, ew.
  • sans1: whoa.
  • sans6: hey man, don't kinkshame me bro.
  • sans4: dude, he's my dad in my timeline?
  • sans6: your dad? freaky.
  • sans2: oh you poor soul. he was just my lab partner in my timeline.
  • sans1: it's... weird for me.
  • sans4: okay, i'm really curious. how weird?
  • sans1: well, "gaster" is actually the name me and pap used to call ourselves before he split into us two.
  • sans6: oh yeah, i've met a sans like that.
  • sans2: i sure haven't. when does he get on?
  • sans6: time is relative, but i think early morning?
  • sans2: ah. that explains it.
  • sans4: yeah, the only reason i get out of bed in the mornings is because toriel practically drags me out on my feet.
  • sans2: papyrus does the same for me.
  • sans6: so... wait. does this mean, from a multiversal sense, i'm engaging in both incest and selfcest?
  • sans1: hey, this is a judgement free zone dude.
  • sans3 has joined the room
  • sans4: you're the one who said not to kinkshame you.
  • sans3: back. 108 now. man i walked into a weird conversation.
  • sans2: c'mon sans, we've had weirder.
  • sans6: wait, 108 what?
  • sans4: speak for yourself. i'm getting weird mental images with me and gaster, now.
  • sans3: dunks. end of genocide route.
  • sans2: hey, remember when amalgamate sans entered the chat?
  • sans4: okay, i'll admit that was weirder.
  • sans6: and really sad. i think that was the only time alphys ever joined the chat.
  • sans1: yeah. i wonder how they're doing?
  • sans6: amalgamate sans or alphys?
  • sans1: both.
  • Core Frisk has joined the room
  • sans6: well hopefully
  • sans2: wait who's this?
  • sans1: frisk? wait, what?
  • sans4: oh, hey frisk.
  • Core Frisk: Hello Sanses. Sorry, I'm not interrupting anything, am I?
  • sans6: uh. hey kid. this is a little hard to explain, but
  • Core Frisk: Don't bother. I'm not your Frisk, anyway.
  • sans4: yeah, he's a frisk that fell into the core and now he's kinda omniscient.
  • sans1: wait, what?
  • sans3: whoa.
  • sans6: and gaster was worried about nearly falling into the core.
  • sans1: he had every right to be.
  • Core Frisk: I just wanted to pop in and saying the particular sans amalgamate you were talking about a moment ago is doing fine, in a manner of speaking. He insists that he's happy so long as Papyrus is with him.
  • sans1: that's a relief, i guess.
  • Core Frisk: Oh, and Sans? The one who's been married to Toriel for two years?
  • sans4: yeah?
  • Core Frisk: Just a heads up, sans' first date went fine, but he's plotting a revenge prank on you.
  • sans4: wow kid, that's real cool of you to let me know.
  • Core Frisk: Don't thank me. He asked me to pull the prank myself. Undyne is going to be hunting for you to get her eyepatches back.
  • sans4: what.
  • Core Frisk: if you start running now, you may just get a head-start! :-)
  • sans4: ...
  • sans4 has left the room
  • sans3: that was ice cold, kid.
  • sans6: and amazing. teach me your ways, o master of pranks.
  • Core Frisk: Aw, well I did learn from the best. Namely, you. You're gonna teach me that one in a few months when I visit you.
  • sans6: niiiiiice.
  • sans2: hey, kid? you know all possibilities across all the timelines, right?
  • Core Frisk: Yes. Your Frisk will finally quit at the King Papyrus ending. It'll be lonely for him, but so long as you're with him, he'll be fine. You're a great second-hand man and an even better brother.
  • sans2: ...i gotta run, guys. i, uh... i gotta tell my bro i love him.
  • sans2 has left the room
  • sans3: oh, same here. kid's back for more. don't tell me if i end up beating the record, i wanna find out for myself.
  • sans3 has left the room
  • sans1: ...so, does he?
  • Core Frisk: Where would the fun be if I told you that?
  • sans1: fair enough. alright, i'd better head out. i need to go read papyrus his bedtime story.
  • sans6: and then have fun times with mettaton?
  • sans1: i'm ace.
  • sans6: oh.
  • sans1: ...i don't want to know what you do with gaster, do I?
  • Core Frisk: No, you really don't.
  • sans1: heh. alright, goodnight frisk. goodnight sans.
  • Core Frisk: Night, Sans!
  • sans6: night sans

  • sans7: ?
  • Core Frisk: Space?
  • sans7: oh. yeah. why?
  • Core Frisk: Well... I've always wanted to try out a jetpack.
  • sans7: you can jump across timelines, right?
  • Core Frisk: You HAVE met me, haven't you?
  • Core Frisk: That was a rhetorical question. I know that you've met me. Omniscient and all.
  • sans7: heh. get over here, i'll grab a pack for you.

anonymous asked:

How do you interpret Sherlock's feelings for Irene, if not romantic or sexual? Why does he keep her phone (or watch in Victorian MP, both of which fandom have taken to symbolise his 'heart')? Why did he rescue her after she screwed him over? Why is she constantly referenced or appearing naked in his MP? Don't worry, I'm not an Adlocker, I'm just trying to figure these things out myself and get frustrated. :-/

Hello- once again, sorry for the delay in answering this! I have a lot of feelings about this, haha ;)

Okay, so I’ll be repeating what many others have said in this, but I agree that Irene is Sherlock’s mirror, through and through. I think this still stands in ACD’s A Scandal in Bohemia, too- Irene is disguised as a man when she says “Goodnight, Mr Sherlock Holmes,” and Sherlock Holmes frequently disguises himself in canon.

They take this mirroring to the next level in Sherlock, though. On a visual level, Irene and Sherlock are strikingly alike: dark hair, pale skin, similar build. And, to really hammer home that point, Irene even wears Sherlock’s coat.

Furthermore, Irene represents Sherlock’s sexuality, what he has repressed. That’s why he is so fascinated by her- Irene is essentially the ‘Consulting Detective’ of Sex- she “deduces” people’s preferences: “I know what he likes.”

That’s why she pops up naked inside his mind palace, but Sherlock isn’t ready to face his sexuality yet: “Not now, I’m busy!”

And, it’s so telling that when Sherlock meets Irene, he is just faced with question marks- he can’t figure her out. He can’t figure himself out. And, that is only properly addressed in The Abominable Bride, where Sherlock is solving the mystery/case of his own heart: “I shall have to go deep into myself.”/”Why do you need to be alone?”

And, I think Sherlock partly saves Irene… because he sees himself in her. Irene “loses” to sentiment, she falls in love (as Sherlock does)- and, that whole scene where Sherlock seemingly defeats her is just so heart-breaking if you read it as Sherlock also talking to himself: “Sentiment is a chemical defect found in the losing side. […] You just couldn’t resist it, could you?”

I also really wouldn’t worry about Irene’s picture being in Sherlock’s pocket-watch. @ramblings-from-yours-truly has pointed out that visually parallels Holmes’s picture of Gabrielle in the opening to The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes- and we know that film presents a gay Sherlock. I think the fact that Sherlock keeps Irene’s phone/picture acts as a way to incite us to think, to challenge (heteronormative) convention. Why are we automatically assuming that Sherlock/Holmes keeping Irene/Gabrielle’s picture= romantic and/or sexual attraction? Because Sherlock/Holmes is a man, and Irene/Gabrielle is a woman?

I understand that it’s very easy to come to that conclusion, as it’s a pattern in fiction that’s been told so many times, and we’ve been trained to follow it, in a sense. A suave, enigmatic man carries around some sort of object that is symbolic of a Woman…. all very James Bond.

But, the thing is, Sherlock works at breaking down the audience’s assumptions, forcing us to re-assess clichés and our often prejudiced heteronormative ‘instincts’ about where the story is going. We are shown that the James Bond like version of Sherlock is a fiction with the Hollywood-kiss with Molly being a fantasy, and John saying does not believe the “brain without a heart” version of Sherlock he presents to the public.

So,  Sherlock keeping Irene’s phone/ her picture in his watch, does symbolize his heart, I think… in the sense that Irene= Sherlock himself/Sherlock’s sexuality. Plus, @57punches and I also discussed here the implications of a gay 19th century Sherlock keeping a woman’s picture in his pocket-watch= Sherlock disguising his heart’s desires in order to protect them…

Thanks for the question! <3

(1/10) Hey, I've been thinking about something in regards to Yurio's character development and stuff that got cut from the story, and I want to know what you think, so I'm just going to anon spam you for a minute, if you don't mind? I'm sorry if it actually bugs you! I'm also sorry if I was actually over-thinking it. I just wanted someone else's thoughts on this because it wouldn't leave me alone.

(2/10) Okay, so Kubo said Yurio was the first character they created but he couldn’t pull the plot because his story is too tragic, and with the time constraints, they decided to just focus on the love around him that helps him grow. At first I thought, “Okay, that’s just part of the creative process, stuff can absolutely change before the final product comes out.” Then I realized they left too many hints of this backstory in and it causes a problem.(3/10) We know his family is poor due to the state of his grandpa’s truck (I believe someone on Tumblr pointed out it’s so old, you never see those models in Russia anymore) and the fact Yurio has been the sole provider of his family since his rookie days (via official bio). We know his parents aren’t heavily involved in his life because of the flashback in episode 2 or 3, his grandfather being the only family we actually see, and the only relative he thinks about during his Agape struggles.(4/10) Surely if he had a good relationship with his parents (or, if they were loving but are dead/gone and he missed them), then he would think of them more, right? And if he’s the sole provider of his family, then that means if they are around, they’re not working for whatever reason. Now THIS is the part that gets me, him being the sole provider of the family.(5/10) If they had left the “sole provider” bit out, we could assume Yurio either has a poor or stuck-in-the-past grandpa that he’s closer to than his parents because they’re not around much. Not all parents are that close to their children for one reason or another, or really get their children’s interests (Yuuri family is supportive of him, but it’s canon they don’t understand figure skating either). He wouldn’t think of them because they aren’t on the same page.(6/10) But the “sole provider since his rookie days” bit adds a whole ‘nother layer to his character. It tells us straight up he comes from a poor family where his parents either can’t or won’t work, his grandfather definitely doesn’t work because surely he would help out (his child and) grandchild if he could in that situation, and gives a new reason for his bad attitude and why he skates. Remember how Otabek said 10y/o Yurio had the eyes of a soldier? (7/10) Without this context we can just rub it off as a normal determination to win and Otabek’s love of war analogies. But with it, it gives us more insight. He probably had those soldier eyes and threw himself into skating hard without complaint until he made a name for himself because that’s the only way he knew to keep his family afloat. He needs to get to the top not just for himself but for his family’s financial stability. He’s such a brat partially because of the weight on his shoulders. (8/10) Unless you want to tell me he’s been washing dishes in a restaurant in his free time since he was 10 or so, I don’t see any other way he could be providing for his family. Anyway, if this had been fully incorporated into the story, I believe the way Yurio built new relationships and learned to rely on others would have been more impactful. (9/10) He’s basically been alone and worked hard for the sake of something that shouldn’t have been his responsibility in the first place, now he’s learning to open up more, to let agape in. The contrast between himself at the beginning and the end would have been more insightful. I can get why they would decide against this, though. There simply wasn’t enough time for it.(10/10) Leaving it at Yurio being a brat who might not have the best relationship with his parents, and simply wants to win and prove himself is fine. I think they tried to keep on this route by establishing that pre-Yuuri, he never took practice seriously. But by leaving the “sole provider” bit in his bio, it stays a part of his final character design, and it feels like a crucial part of him was left unexplored.

That’s a very good and interesting point you bring up anon! I never addressed that part of the official bio (also, correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought it said ‘main’ provider, not ‘sole’ provider, which carries a different weight) in my Yurio narrative breakdown though because…it never came up in the actual show.

And it’s a shame, because like you said it would give an extra dimension to Yurio’s character and his motivations. It also adds nicely to the Victor parallel. We really don’t know a lot about Yurio’s family situation, but what we do know is very telling. His mother wasn’t/isn’t around. Apart from that reference Yurio never thinks of his parents. his grandfather is the only person he associates with unconditional love (and the only person who we see emotionally supporting Yurio in his skating). The only person Yurio was concerned about finding out he was in Japan was Yakov. Lilia tells him to pack his things, makes absolutely no mention of notifying his parents about coming to live with her.

So yeah, Yurio’s family situation is not great. But it’s one thing to have that, and it’s another to have Yurio shoulder the responsibility of being the main provider for his family. Note I’m using main provider here, because sole provider really doesn’t fit with the way Yurio acts in the series. That’s a much bigger responsibility and pressure on his shoulders. If his family was depending solely on his skating to survive, Yurio wouldn’t slack off his training the way he does before feeling challenged by Yuuri. You can’t have both, “he had the eyes of a soldier because he was fighting for his family’s survival” and “I don’t have time to focus on training I’m on my phone what family?” at the same time, it doesn’t make for a consistent character.

You’re right though, that if this had been fully incorporated and acknowledged in the story, Yurio’s agape narrative would be much more impactful and it would just add more depth and complexity to his character overall. It’s a shame they didn’t explore it. It would have been so easy to do that too. Just have Yurio think about it. I mean, Yurio already thinks a lot about his motivations to win in the show, it wouldn’t be hard to add that he was thinking about providing for his family too. As it stands, I can’t even fully acknowledge that detail as canon, part of the official bio or not, because it’s something that goes against the way Yurio is currently written a lot of times.

He’s still a great character, and his current background works but yeah, wish they could have kept that detail in.

So. That’s a Tarot number.

That’s the tarot number. Kaneki’s tarot number. 12. The Hanged Man. I’ve screencapped more than just Mutsuki’s eyes there because really, the rest of the dialogue on the page is explanation enough for what the tarot means here.

The hanged man, upright, is about resignation and letting go. It alludes, depending on the deck and the scholar, to Odin, suffering to gain wisdom, or Judus, hanging in atonement. It is about suffering or sacrificing in order to gain something. Judgement, epiphany, forgiveness, wisdom. The hanged man references someone who has voluntarily tied themselves or let themselves be tied up there for a reason, and it implies someone meant to or meaning to use this sacrifice, suffering, or suspension for something.

The tarot here is on Mutsuki’s eyes, which for the first time since the Quinx surgery are without a kakugan. If the ever present Kakugan was a symbol of something violent Mutsuki refused to see, or some truth Mutsuki insisted on hiding or hiding from, than it vanishing symbolizes realization or acceptance.

From a Jungain psychology perspective, the Hanged Man marks the start of a journey into the deeper self and the subconscious, a forced or voluntary abandoning of the tight reins of the ego and a surrender to the wildness of the subconscious - a necessary step in the process of true self understanding. As one Jungian psychologist puts it - “self-excavation.”

It is also, unquestionably, a parallel to Kaneki’s acceptance of himself as a ghoul after Yamori’s torture.

Neither are/were “okay.” But the body given to them - forced on them - by mad science - Kanou or the CCG - saved them. Torture left them with new truths about themselves and their past - about how they defined themselves. And left them “hanging.” Left them with a choice.

Kaneki comes out of Yamori’s chains a cold, more violent, broken, vengeful and suicidal person. His realization’s are that he is a ghoul, but also that he has to fight, to pluck, and protect.

Despite all of Tooru’s negative self talk following regaining his memory, I actually think that his acknowledgement to Akira that he is not okay, and his willingness to admit to himself how he feels is a step above where Kaneki was after his own torture. Because it took Kaneki years to realize.

And still, I think, Kaneki has a strained relationship with the violence he’s done and his capacity for it.

Tooru is in a precarious position now, hanging like that. But it is also potentially the start of a journey of true self realization and understanding.

One Kaneki, Mutsuki’s parallel here, keeps stumbling on and restarting. Kaneki has been the Hanged Man for years.

Hopefully Mutsuki’s ability to self reflect will give him a chance to move past it more successfully and to make better decisions for himself than his erstwhile mentor.

Sorry to bother, I'm looking for some help, if you don't mind. I feel- and have for a long time- like I've hit a wall, artistically, and I'm not sure what to do. I'm trying to figure out how to overcome it, and don't really know where to go with it. I feel like my art is just not going anywhere, and I get frustrated. Like I'm making a mess more than a creation? a product? Idk. It just feels like the lines don't make sense anymore. Again, sorry to bother, but I really admire your stuff and skill

it’s no bother !!

First off, I suggest reading my post on art direction: [http://helpfulharrie.tumblr.com/post/120523296471/]

Then, think about what sort of art you want to create! That post should help with this, have a look at the work your favourite artists make and list the stuff you like the most about their art.

Is it their lines? The colour? Texture? etc, once you have a list of things you like you’ll have an idea of what you want your art to look like!

If you’re worried about your art looking like other people’s, don’t be. Emulation is an important method of learning for a start, thats why people do redraws and master studies!

But also more importantly, by studying the things you like you’ll find your artistic voice, it’s hidden in pieces amongst all the art you like. When you piece it together, you’ll draw stuff that’s truly your own ♡

That all said, if you’re struggling with making your lines make sense, it’s probably due to a lack of clarity!

As in, you’re not quite sure what you want to draw, so you end up with a lot of lines which aren’t quite what you want.

Part of this is due to lack of practice, so here are some exercises that can help with line accuracy:

Try drawing some dots and connecting point A to point B in a single stroke while touching all the points. This helps teach you to visualise your strokes!

Being able to draw parallel lines equal distances apart is also good for control

And, practice drawing circles clockwise and counterclockwise, going round once! This takes a lot of practice lmao, if you’re particularly struggling put down a blob as a guideline first

Do a couple of these exercises as a warmup before you start drawing, and you’ll start to get the hang of them.

But also for me personally, i think in terms of shapes and silhouettes, and the lines I draw are wrapped around them. It’s less about the line, and more about the shape (which is why I often block things in and just show the shape!)

When I dont think of a shape clearly, I end up with very messy lines!

but if I spend some time thinking about the shape I’m after,

I can draw lines with more purpose!

I’d suggest doing some studies with [http://artists.pixelovely.com]!

Try blocking in solid shapes over the reference images, and drawing lines based on that

and when you feel confident about seeing the shapes, try drawing straight from the photos! Remember to focus on the big shapes before the details.

This should hopefully help with training your eye to find those edges so you can draw the lines you want.

And the most important advice I can give you anon is not to worry too much, being unsatisfied w/ your work means you have the capacity to improve for a start! that’s a good thing!

You learn something new with every piece, I’m sure if you look at your older work you’ll see things you’d do differently now that you know more.

I’m wishing you the best of luck anon, it’s really tough when you’re not sure what to do with your art but I promise you’ll get through it ♡

I do hope this helps. If you need any more help, don’t hesitate to send me another ask!

Hey simlicious :D. I'm trying to convert some SL stuff for sims 3. I need to re map SL objects, cause they have many textures and the uv map is a mess, all the textures are overlapped. I know it is possible with Blender but I don't know which tools I can use, so if you can help me will be great, thanks in advance ^^

Hello! I suspect that there are a lot of people out there wondering how this works. I am toying with the idea of making some video tutorials for blender, but I’d have to find time for that first, but I think it would help a lot!

Let’s see what I can gather right now.

Learn the basics.
I don’t have the time right now to explain every tool in Blender (and I don’t know them all, either), there are a lot of useful shortcuts such as r for rotate, g for grabbing/moving stuff around, s for scaling, e for extruding and these can be used in conjunction with the axes (x,y,z), so you can type rx to rotate something on the x-axis, or you can make it even more precise by typing rx180 - that would move the mesh piece you have selected by 180 degrees on the x-axis.
There is a search function for the different tools, if you hit the spacebar it opens up. You can type in anything and it will look for it and you can click/use the tool directly.

Getting familiar with zooming, panning/moving around in the 3d space and learning basic shortcuts by heart is the first step.

I recommend checking out the merge tools, the snap to cursor/snap cursor to selection tools, the remove doubles and edge split tools.
As for modifiers, check out the mirror modifier, the decimate modifier and the solidify modifier, these are the ones I regularly use to mesh.

There are some really great blender tutorials from Neil Hirsig (just google him) that explain certain tools in detail. They are really helpful and they are in a chronological order, too so you start with easy stuff and go on to harder stuff. I highly recommend those video tutorials! He has his own website, but his videos are also on vimeo. Definitely check out the two videos on unwrapping a mesh, they are really insightful :)

Now some short tips (I copied them out of many messages that I have sent, saves a lot of time instead of typing everything anew, sorry for any typos):

Setting up blender for Sims 3 meshing:

Make sure you setup the workspace so that you have the meshing window and the uv/image editor both visible. I don’t have the pm anymore where I explained this in detail, I might cover this in another tutorial, but there is atutorial by Cmomoney at MTS explaining how to change the viewports like that, too (“setting up blender” or something like that). You don’t need to do all the steps in the tutorial by Cmomoney, mainly the steps where you will get the two parallel windows with 3d viewport and uvmap. The others aren’t necessary and some tips are obsolete.

Remapping Parts in Blender:

In blender, you can select those polys that you want mapped separately, then press u und choose “unwrap”. the unwrapping function uses seams to determine how to unwrap. You can add manual seams for the uv-map with the “mark seam” options in the toolbar on the left (creating regular seams in the mesh works as well, just select the edges you want to split apart and press spacebar and type in “edge split”). With the edge select tool, select the edges you want and then press “mark seam”. If you want to delete a seam, use “clear seam.” The seam-tool won’t create a seam in the mesh itself, it just adds a “guide” for the unwrapping tool. To determine where the vertex- seams of a mesh are located,  just select one or more vertices from your mesh area in the 3d-viewport and press ctrl+L. This selects all linked faces. That comes in really handy for all sorts of things :) Once you have unwrapped a part, you can scale, rotate and change the position on the uvmap pretty easily using the same commands you use for the 3d-viewport (except there’s no z-dimension)

Untangling UVmaps in Blender:

In blender, you can select the uv areas pretty easily in the following way: right click on the mesh area directly on the mesh you want so select and select one vertex with a right-click (or select more, if you want to grab more uv areas at once. Selecting one vertex is to make sure you don’t grab more areas accidentally). With one or more vertices selected, press strg+L. this selects the entire mesh area. This will also select the corresponding piece of the uvmap. Now just move your mouse cursor into the uvmap window and press g to grab that uvmap piece and move it out of the way :) There is also a sync mode that lets you only see and edit the uvmap of the mesh piece that you have currently selected. It is a small button in the toolbar of the uvmap window, next to where you can change the selection methods. It’s called “Keep UV and edit mode selection in Sync”. Sometimes this helps as well :) Happy untangling!

Using the Decimate Modifier to reduce Polycounts

Especiall mesh conversions often have high polycounts and need to be reduced. As to how much, it is best to load a similar EA mesh and check their polycounts. Remember, if you check the polycount in TSR Workshop, divide the Polygon count by 3! For some reason, it shows triple the amount of the actual polys (vertex count is normal, though).
There is a modifier function called “decimate” that reduces polys. The modifiers are represented by that wrench symbol on the tabs to the right. Just click on it and choose “add modifier”, then click on “decimate”. You’ll get a new set of tools specifically for the decimate function. Simply drag/change the “ratio” bar to the left. It shows a percentage of the polycount below. The more you drag the slider to the left, the fewer polys your object will have. You can only see it’s work in object mode. Below the ratio is also a polycount so you can see how much polys the object would have. If you’re satisfied, just hit “apply” and the changes will be permanent. You can also leave it un-applied to be able to make changes; then it will be applied when you export the object. BTW, the modifiers “solidify” and “miror” are modifiers I love to use as well. “Solidify” creates backfaces automatically for you and mirror mirrors the mesh and/or uv coordinates.

Baking textures and using images as a reference for mapping

In the scene tab (the little icon with the camera underneath the tree structure where all meshes are shown), there is a “bake” button. Chose “ambient occlusion” and hit “bake”. If there is an error “no images found to bake to”, try loading a new texture: Go to the uvmap editor, hit the image button, chose new, type in the texture size and hit ok. This gives you a completely black texture (good for baking). For reference purposes, you can also chose to get a checkered map (change the generated type from blank to uv grid) before hitting the ok button). With that, the baking process should work (highlight the mesh just in case). If it still doesn’t work, you can try to save the texture first (in the uv editor, chose image ->save as image). Sometimes, it won’t bake at all, then exporting the mesh, closing the program and importing it back again helps sometimes, but I hope you won’t have those troubles :) The blender tools by cmomoney at MTS have a baking function as well, you might check that out, too. The image function is pretty nifty by itself as well. As said, you can use the checkered uvmap for reference purposes and even load your own textures (for example, the multiplier, like you do in milkshape). The cool thing is, you can easily switch between loaded textures with one click without importing allover again. To do that, click on the longish button that displays the name of your texture in the uvmap editor and you get a list of textures (if you first added them, of course). To make sure the textures are displayed on the mesh, chose “textured” instead of shaded in the 3d viewport and make sure that in the panel that pops up if you hit “N” in the 3d viewport, the shading method (look for the display menu) is “multitexture”. BTW, there is also a function called “backface culling” there. With that enabled, the backfaces will be transparent and you can more easily see where you might need to turn or add backfaces.

By the way, in one of your ramblings a few days ago, you said something about parallels between Thomas and John. I don't mean to be pushy or anything, but if you could elaborate? If you have a moment... And want to... I'm new to Black Sails and even if it was discussed, at some point, I wasn't here. And I'm really curious... thanks. *.*

sure thing!!! :’’)

just to clarify though, bc I think my wording may have been misleading: when I said “silver/thomas parallels” as they relate to the ways in which silverflint becoming canon would already be entirely supported/set up by the narrative, I was referring more to similarities between Flint x Thomas and Flint x Silver as relationships rather than silver and thomas as characters >:) so, that’s what I’m going to elaborate on below! sorry if that’s not what you were looking for/if the relationship parallels are already obvious to you :3 (if you are interested in thinking more about character similarities, though, THIS GIFSET may be helpful!)

*clears throat* ANYWAY!!! more of me blabbering about Flint/Thomas and Silverflint things under the cut O:)

Hi do you know any canon Larry fics? Don't worry if you don't know any! :) x

hi darling!  i do!  i hope this list is sufficient!

okay, so one of the first fics in this fandom i ever read was bravery by @andthensusays and she hooked me.  it’s her fault.  she has some other ficlets that are also canon compliant, if i remember correctly, but all her stuff is wonderful.

between me and you is a sort of cute headcanon ficlet by @stylesforstiles.  it’s cute and i just really love it.

these next two are…kinda canon compliant.  it’s hard to explain, but i think they are both similar in a way.  they are kinda…parallel universe canon compliant future fic?  or at least.  they were when they were written.  but yeah.  so they kinda straddle the line of canon compliant and au, if that makes sense.  the first is and then a bit by @infinitelymint and the other is burn to ash by @bethaboolou.  they are very different from each other but both are fantastic and just.  read them if you haven’t already.

it’s just that it’s delicate is sooooooo adorable!  it’s the fluffiest x factor fic ever and i just.  i love it very much a lot.

every arrow that i aim is true is kinda another one of those canon compliant future fics?  it’s super cute and takes place during a break in the band…or after the band breaks up (i’m the worst at remembering details), but yeah.  it’s great.

like you’ve been here before is another canon compliant future fic and it takes place years after the band had ended and is focused on the boys writing the true story of one direction.  it’s a good read for sure.

always in my heart by @tellmethisisnotlove is one of those fics that is canon compliant but not at the same time.  it’s canon compliant but under the condition that h&l broke up, if that makes sense.  it is heart wrenching and gorgeous and yeah.  for sure read it.

for a foreseen invocation this one is also canon compliant but has the boys breaking up before tmh and having to still be in the band together despite that and it’s just…sorry i’m tired and at a loss of words but it’s super awesome or i wouldn’t have bookmarked it!  haha

your hand in mine DON’T THINK TWICE JUST READ THIS IT IS THE FLUFFIEST OF FLUFF AND YOU CAN’T HELP BUT BE FILLED WITH WARM FUZZIES AFTERWARDS JUST DO IT!

speaking of fluff, check out everything by @fuzzypurplestuff because almost all of their stuff is canon compliant and is just fantastic.  their ao3 is found here.  another person with a good amount of canon compliant fic is @ashavahishta and their fics can be found here.

so this one is complicated.  midnight dancers is sooooo great and it is also kinda canon compliant…they tagged it as alt-canon and i like that.  that’s what a lot of these are…but anyway, it has multiple endings that you can choose between and it’s just…really good.  hard to explain but i love it.  it kinda pits tomlinshaw against larry and…it’s so well done.

the things there might be pictures of series by @andyouknowitis is super fantastic.  it’s mostly canon compliant future fic with a bit of a twist, but it’s wonderful.  absolutely.  lj has an incredible gift with words and makes you just want to live with those characters.  highly recommend this series!

like a timebomb ticking is another fic by @infinitelymint and just.  if you need a good cry with a happy ending then do this one.  this fic is one of those fics that changed my life?  like…it’s amazingly well done and just…yeah.  it’s canon compiant future fic again and just.  yeah.  beautiful.

this crown of thorns is an incredible fic that is deep and not as fluffy and fun as some of the others on here.  it is a really interesting character study of how their situation could actually be affecting the boys, harry in particular, and it’s incredibly well done.

to the ends of the earth by @stylinsoncity is another that could be considered alt-canon and it’s gorgeous.  listen to the playlist while reading too, i promise you won’t regret it.  i call it the idaho fic, and you’ll easily figure out why.

let’s take the world by storm is the canon compliant kink exploration fic you never even knew you needed but you really REALLY do.

and if this ridiculous list isn’t enough for you, @allthelarryfics has a list of canon compliant fics for you here!  i hope this helps and sorry it got so long…i didn’t realize i had so many in my bookmarks that fit the canon compliant factor haha

Hi love, I read the billboard thing and it's so blatantly obvious that he's still part of 1d. Like 80% of the interview involved them. What I don't understant is that it seemed to trash Simon cowell a bit, with the overworking stuff. Why does he let that happen? Do you think it's azoffs work? And other thing, that interview was really bad and I'm pretty sure zayn didn't say half of those things, so do you think he's happy that it's published or summat? ----continue

I love how z retweeted 1) a tweet from an account that has Liam’s name in it 2) is so extra that the tweet is isn’t even in English :’) I love ziam they be keeping my gay ass on life support tho

—- continue. the end was so funny though. The part where he’s saying that he has to smile and do stuff he doesn’t want to. And then it says that he smiled. So shady. And also the part about what he looked for in a girl was gross. Sorry if it’s too long. It’s just that I trust you a lot, and LOVE your analysis. Thank you love!

“I’m incredibly disciplined. I realized I can push myself through situations I might not necessarily want to do, but can overcome by being in the moment. No matter what, I can smile and do whatever I got to do.” And then he does smile, flashing a small, not entirely un-boy-band-like grin.

That is pretty funny when I look at it actually.  I wonder if the writer was intentionally throwing shade because he implied with the smile parallel and the “not entirely un-boy-band-like” part that Zayn is in fact not happy about the very interview that quote is from.

I think it probably was intentional given the “inadvertently bearded” comment that was also included.  The writer went way out of their way to include that phrase.

I very much think this is exactly like Fader, 1DHQ involvement and all.

  • the Perrie diss articles that popped up almost immediately to give her promo
  • the strangely gratuitous talk about how successful One Direction has been
  • the simultaneous dissing of 1D’s (old? manufactured?) sound, “Zayn” did say he liked DMD and not Perfect which isn’t unfair to say
  • the mentions of how manufactured life BTS can be
  • the pushing of the OT4 vs Zayn narrative while at the same time keeping it subdued and softened
  • the gratuitous Liam mention (as if any of the boys ever denied Zayn has an amazing voice)
  • the details that scream WEED!LIKES CHUNKY WOMEN!IS AN AUTHENTIC HOMETOWN BOY!IS A POC! which adds up to ZAYN IS A PERFECT R&B/RAP ARTIST STEREOTYPE! BUY HIS MUSIC WHEN IT ACTUALLY, EVENTUALLY, FINALLY COMES OUT!
  • the girls, girls, girls angle including Gigi, his ideal girl, and even the fact he joined chorus when he was 8 or 9 to meet girls

It’s very much a mix of New Team and Old Team in my opinion.  It hits all the same notes as Fader except for the Larry denial.  I guess once was enough for that.

No, I don’t think Zayn approves of this article or marketing style.  No, I don’t think once his new team has actual control that this sort of promotion will continue. Try reading the quotes in your head in Zayn’s voice and see how much of it actually adds up.  I can’t imagine Zayn saying at least half of it.  The other half could easily have been taken out of context.

This is not who Zayn is and he’s headstrong enough that he wouldn’t have signed up with yet another team that forces this on him.  I think he just has to wait it out until 1DHQ are completely out the door.

If I was writing Star Wars, Rey Skywalker is exactly what I would do. I mean, you have all these layers you can play up and each different way you strike it will hit a different note in how people perceive it bc everyone sees the OT differently. It presents this entire world of possibilities- of everything playing out like it did before (everything, even the murder of innocent people and the worst violation of a person can be forgiven) or it can play out different and explore that new and unexplored outcome (just because you’re sorry doesn’t mean your victims have to forgive you or shoulder the burden of what you’ve done to them in silence.)

Also I think playing out Rey as a Skywalker and having her confront the big bad- Snoke and Kylo- gives us a perspective we were missing from the redemption of the OT.

Luke forgave Vader, and Vader accepted that and was “redeemed” before he died. But Luke didn’t speak for Leia, whose family and loved ones were all killed on Alderaan, who had her agency taken and was held prisoner by Vader, who fought and fought and fought and probably never truly forgave him. She lost her mother just as much as Luke did. She didn’t have to forgive Vader. And I think, as much as Rey parallels Luke, that she could explore THAT mentality.

And maybe she could explore the idea that you’re not less because you’re affected by the bad things that were done to you. That you’re not less by putting your foot down and refusing to engage your enemy as if they deserve to have their actions discussed.

One of my favorite things I’ve seen is that Leia sent Ben to Luke because she thought he would do better. He forgave Vader, right? He moved past all those bad things. I imagine he must have seemed pretty well adjusted, taking care of children and teaching and leading them, until Ben came along, Snoke attached like a parasite to the inside of his thoughts. And Leia thought “my brother did the good thing- he rid Anakin of Vader, he forgave all that bad, and I couldn’t ever shake it - so he will be able to do what I can’t too. He will be able to get rid of this dark like he did before.”

But as much as people want to pretend like it, being forgiven doesn’t actually change anything. Vader still hurt Luke and Leia and Han and still killed so many people, including children. Being forgiven didn’t changed what he’d done. It didn’t heal Leia’s hurts, didn’t fix the wrongs Han had suffered, didn’t heal Luke - not really. It didn’t bring all those dead people back.

And I think Rey could look at Kylo, at her cousin or her brother and still see all the hurt he’d caused her and all the hurt he’d continue to cause her and others. I think she would remember waiting for years and years on that desert planet for people to come back who never would, and she’d think “forgiving them for abandoning me won’t bring back all the years of my life I lost on that hell planet. All the years I spent where I could have stolen a ship and left.” And she’d think “forgiving Kylo Ren won’t bring Ben Solo back- Ben Solo doesn’t exist anymore.”

After all. Didn’t we see how Han’s desire to believe he could bring his son home was ultimately what killed him? The idea of “people can always be brought back” is a nice one. It’s a pretty one and it is about as fluffy and sweet as honey. But for the victims it’s toxic. For the victims it says “you can never let go, they deserve your forgiveness.” For the victims, “they can always be saved” sounds a lot like “You haven’t tried hard enough to save them.”

I think a “Vader in reverse” (he starts off evil and is offered forgiveness and redemption and a ticket home to people who love him, only to deny it) and a “Here is the other side of the forgiveness story” is some damn good and interesting writing.

It also has a really amazing message for victims. It would say “it’s not your job to forgive them so they can heal and be a better person. They have to do it on their own. They have to fix what they can and atone for what they didn’t and it’s not up to you to forgive them for what they did to you.”

Hi, I just got into teen wolf and caught up a couple of weeks ago, and I'm sorry if this comes across as rude, but I was wondering where the sterek ship came from, and why people ship it so hard. They don't seem to interact in the show much, so I was just wondering. You seem to be one of the top sterek contributors that I follow, so i figured you'd be the best to ask :D Sorry if any of that came out wrong, I'm genuinely interested, I promise.

The thing with Sterek is that once you believe in it, it takes on a life of its own. You’re right, they don’t have many scenes together - especially in this latest season, which post-dates most of our obsessions so is subsequently inconsequential. And as with most things in fandom, the show is just the starting point, just the very initial spark. The real stuff is what we craft and tighten up with more time and reflection.

But Sterek.

To me it’s two things: It’s a chemistry thing, and a complementarity&compatibility thing.

This means that some people just aren’t going to see it. I literally cannot see ANY sexual chemistry between Lydia and Allison. Just DOES NOT COMPUTE in my brain, but I know it’s one of the most popular femslash ships on the show. And many of us have subtly different interpretations of the different characters that change how we see their compatibility and complementarities. So it’s a personal thing on some levels.

Chemistry

Now, my perceptions of chemistry function primarily on a nonverbal level, since I am a psychologist who studies nonverbal behavior in part. So sue me ;D. But I see some very important things between Stiles and Derek in the scenes they do share.

When Stiles and Derek look at each other, at any point that there is eye-contact, there is a higher level of 1-to-1 eye focus than either character shares with any of the other characters. When they are around each other they look at each other, and when they do that they really look at each other. Scott and Stiles, for instance, who have lots of shared screentime, typically present a more hetero-male nonverbal behavior profile, exchanging gazes instead of sharing them, turning postures at parallel or wider angles rather than facing or acute positions. Lydia and Allison do the same thing, though in a more feminine manner which does resemble attraction behaviors more closely so I suspect that’s where some people see chemistry and I do not.

So to me, Stiles and Derek are aware of each other, their body language shows that they are physically leaving space or awareness for each other in the scenes they’re in, more than most of the other characters do with each of Derek and Stiles respectively.

They also share several non-plot-relevant beats within their scenes together. What I mean by this is that they have pauses, take breaths, share snarky eyerolls and other exchanges that they don’t have to.This is mostly a function of their chemistry as actors and Dylan’s particular style than anything intentional, from what I understand, but either way the finished product gives their interactions a special subtexts.

To me, all of this is the epitome of chemistry.

Plus they look fucking hot together - lots of contrasts in their lines and colors and it’s very pretty if you ask me.

Complementarity & Compatibility

So again, as a personality psychologist, I see some very important places where Stiles and Derek are compatible (similar) and where they are complementary (different in ways that fit well against each other).

As I’ve said before, of course they’re both beautiful and interesting but there are bazillions of beautiful and interesting characters. What makes them special to me is how they have harmony in core, important places, and sharp differences in other places that complement each other, making them even stronger together than they are separately.

Neither of them are normal. Neither of them are inherently heroic. They both have edges of ruthlessness, the ability to do the hard things, to cut off the arm to save the body. They both make sacrifices to protect those they love and would rather suffer than ask for help sometimes. They are both smart. They are both impulsive and reckless in their own ways. Neither of them are particularly agreeable people, which is not a personality trait you want too big of a difference on. They both understand anger and guilt and loss in some similar ways, based on their histories. Their senses of humor are compatible, thus the snark, though I can never quite decide if it’s because they are similar or different in that regard, though I lean towards the former, given the severe levels of sarcasm.

Stiles is unconventional and nonlinear in his thinking. Derek is more straightforward. Stiles calls people on their bullshit, which is helpful since Derek can be pretty good with the denial and projection. But Derek can also do that to certain people, and Stiles is one of them. Stiles’s high expressivity and Derek’s laconic tendencies mesh well, bringing each other a little closer to center and also letting them appreciate the other’s differences.

Sadly I have too many papers left to grade… so I’ll leave it there. Honestly it’s easier for me to explain in how I like to write their characters, exploring these different facets, and I’m sure I have a lot of other things I’ve thought of but forgot now. Oh well. I’ve got papers to go read and not the fun kind.

  • People : So, you like The Big Bang Theory ?
  • Me : Yeah. You should watch it. It's fun.
  • In my head : I don't just like the Big Bang Theory, I LOVE it. I live Big Bang. I breathe Big Bang. I AM THE BIG BANG THEORY. This is the best show in the entire univers, parallel universes included. The Big Bang Theory has changed my life. First it's insanely funny, the jokes are smart and the writers always find a way to make you learn something through the different plots. Second, it helps people to embrace their nerdy side. Tbbt shows us that geeks and nerds also find love and have friends. Nerds are capable of more than just solving an equation. This show celebrates the difference. This show changed my life. It celebrates the brainy, the intellectual and the different and I love this to infinity and beyond. Sheldon taught me to always be honest, he also taught to me to be myself no matter what other people think. Amy taught me that things do get better with time. Leonard taught me to never lose hope. Howard taught me that it's okay to laugh at myself. Penny taught me that there are all kinds of intelligence. Bernadette taught me to be tough. Raj taught me that it's okay to be alone. These characters taught me stuff, and I relate to them on many many levels. I've never related to so many characters in a show before and for that I'm thankful. I am thankful for the existence of The Big Bang Theory. It does not matter the number of season we'll have because the show will always be a part of my life. "Some stories stay with us forever.." The Big Bang Theory is one of those stories for me. I love you Jim Parsons, Mayim Bialik, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Kunal Nayyar, Simon Helberg and Melissa Rauch, Kevin Sussman, Wil Wheaton, John Ross Bowie, Laura Spencer, Carol Ann Susi. I love you Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and Steve Molaro. Thank you for changing my life the way you did. Thank you for everything, and above all thank you for creating Sheldon Cooper, Amy Farrah Fowler, Leonard and Penny Hofstadter, Rajesh Koothrappali, Howard and Bernadette Wolowitz, Stuart Bloom and everyone else.

Maybe the animators don't like Sakura and she isn't a vital support for the series only Sasuke and Naruto are. No offense. Sakura is a tag along even for a suppose main character we never saw or Kishimoto wasn't interested in letting us know who the Sakura's parents where he obviously doesn't like her. At least he didn't mess around with SS moments I think that's the only thing Kishimoto handle well in the manga the anime was terrible doe. I hope I wasn't offensive if so I'm sorry.

You’re not offensive at all. However,

  1. During the 2015 Jump Festa, Kishimoto expressed how much he likes Sakura, and how upset he was by the fandom’s reception. He really tried his best with Sakura. He was proud for turning her into a “fine young lady“ by the end too.
  2. Kishi was pressed by the editor to not introduce Sakura’s parents in the manga, due to the low popularity of her character. However, RTN’s parent designs are Kishimoto’s.
  3. Oh dear, Sakura isn’t a vital support for the series? A LOT of the manga isn’t vital to the plot’s progression, but it serves for its better appreciation, and those parts aren’t treated as badly by the animators. Almost all characters are in a way or another subplots to Naruto’s and Sasuke’s developments. They are the protagonists after all. Back to Sakura,
    1. She injected Naruto’s chest with chakra. Naruto would be dead otherwise.
    2. She saved Sasuke from the alternate dimension by aiding Obito. Sasuke would be dead otherwise.
    3. Except for the last arc, Sakura’s words are consistently the only ones to reach out to Sasuke, “devouring the wicked power”. Sasuke reacts to her, without her realising.
    4. It’s Sakura who was given the promise of a lifetime.
    5. It’s Sakura who discovers the whereabouts of Orochimaru to rescue Sasuke.
    6. Without Sakura, Sasuke would have been a murderer of two innocent hindrances (the Otogakure guy at FoD, and Karin).
    7. It’s Sakura who smacked a god in the head.
  4. Let’s be honest, the Naruto plot is about getting Sasuke away from the path of evil. What are the most relevant bonds? NaruSasu - the Yin-Yang ”brotherly” growth-promoting rivalry, ItaSasu - unconditional love of your natal family, SasuSaku - unconditional love of your family-to-be. The parallels were decided since 2006.
  5. Saying that Sakura is not plot-relevant also means ignoring the most significant lessons to be learned from the manga.
    1. Never give up on people whom you know still have some good in them. Don’t force yourself onto your loved ones, but let them know you will always be there for them.
    2. Armed with hard work alone, you can become the most accomplished professional in your field. Don’t forget Sakura is the only one after Tsunade, privileged by her Senju lineage, to master the Byakogou. She discovered Kankuro’s antidote within hours, failed accomplishment by Sunagakure’s entire medic team. The God of Shinobi is impressed by her alone.
    3. A girl doesn’t need to be romantically attached to a person to experience compassion and affection for them. (See Naruto, Chiyo, Rock Lee, Hinata, Karin, endless injured shinobi and children)
    4. Intelligence and accomplishments are sexy
    5. Once you think you’ve exhausted all your resources, you can still “give everything you’ve got”. Sakura drained her little chakra left to pump life into Naruto’s heart. She still managed to release her Byakogou after that. Twice. That’s unbelievable courage and resilience.
  6. Kishimoto too never stopped thinking of Sakura as a heroine (see JF15 interview again). You say that her skills aren’t comparable to Naruto and Sasuke’s, but she’s a Sannin/Kage-level shinobi at 17. Actually, I’m thankful that at least one main character was spared of gratuitous power-ups.

Would it have been nicer if Kishi had given more focus to Sakura? Sure. Though it’s more the reader’s fault, and his inadvertent misogyny. People on average prefer unrealistic women, stripped of their humane complexity, “physically strong and mentally impassible”. Sakura is real, she faced problems which are relatable for many, and she’s an excellent role model for the way she overcame them. Arguably, she sustained the most tangible character development of all characters.

Regardless, the animator’s biases shouldn’t show. Some people will never read the manga, and their understanding of Sakura is forever skewed by people who de facto are overturning the plot of the manga. Then anime watchers complain that the plot isn’t consistent. Of course it isn’t. You’re not telling the story right.
