a friend of mine is singing music of the night in a showcase we are both in and he asked me to be his christine. I have a slavegirl costume but I am lacking the dressing gown. do you have any advice on how can I make one (preferably on a low budget) like how much fabric/lace would I need or how does the pattern look
My suggestion is always to find a cream/white wrap dress or dressing gown and add lace to sleeves, front and eventually also the skirt. Satin is a good choice, but avoid the super shiny ones. This is an absolutely random eBay find:
On this I would remove the pockets, and make the front skirt slightly curved. I would also shorten the sleeves just a tad. Then add a solid ruffle around the hem to make it floor-length, similar to the Aussie/World Tour ones:
…plus lace or ruffles on the front bodice. It would give a quite convincing Christine-dressing-gown look, and I suspect in the vein of the Aussie/World Tour ones. Here’s the top of that World Tour photo, just for reference:
Not sure how much lace you’ll need. Probably some 5-6 meters, depending on how full you make it? But you can also buy a cheap chiffon shawl or by-the-yard, sew a lace to the edge, and make a ruffle out of that. If you’re extravagant, you can even add a lace layer on top of a chiffon ruffle layer, as seen in some stage costume. But it’s not absolutely necessary, you’ll get a lovely result just using one layer too.
I hope you’ll have a lovely performance, both of you!
