all the awards to her and the grandmother

Here's to BTS.

Here’s to Rap Monster, who has dreamed of this moment since his debut. Who used to perform as an underground artist as a student and who led his group so well despite his young age, despite of his uncertainty and fear for the future. Who makes sure to always be there to talk to his members about their feelings and thoughts. Who gave up entering a good university for his passion for music and has spent nearly every night writing lyrics and making songs even till the early morning, even while waiting to go up on stage and even when they are on the plane flying to their next event. Who always writes such thoughtful tangents on loving ourselves, trusting our youth and our passion, forgiving ourselves, and appreciating everything that we have in this world. Who shows us every side to him even though he’s scared of the vulnerability. Who never forgets to thank those around him even if he does not know them personally. Who always thinks of us wherever he goes and who is always rooting for us in whatever we do. Truly without him, BTS would not be the BTS that they are today. And I really hope that he knows that; I hope that receiving this award was able to take all his stresses and heavy thoughts from his shoulders. And even more, I hope that he has learned to love himself- flaws and all- just as we love him. Thank you for always showering us with love and thoughtfulness even if we may not deserve it, thank you for never forgetting about us. I hope that you never doubt yourself and your pure heart. You are more than deserving of this award.

Here’s to Jin. Who has shown us that hardwork and self-confidence is everything. He was accepted into Konkuk university, which is a prestigious Seoul university, before entering Bighit. He got into the film department with absolutely NO special admissions. He studied hard with plans as to become an actor but when Bighit changed his career path, Jin practiced every single day to become the amazing performer that he is today. I think of how he called his vocal trainer at 4am to show her that he has improved and I get so proud. Here’s to the oldest member of the group. Who constantly showers his members and his fans with love. Who was the one that cooked for the members, borrowing food and tools from his own family when BTS could not afford to, who made sure that every member became comfortable in Seoul when they first arrived at BigHit. Who is unbelievably intelligent as well. Who is always there to make us laugh with his silly gags and jokes, who is always there to make us feel loved. You worked hard to improve, you worked hard to be where you are right now. You deserve this.

Here’s to Suga. Who learned what it meant to be an adult at such a young age. Who used to perform for audiences of two and not have enough money to even buy ramen. Who used to listen to people constantly tell him that he would ruin his family. Who came up to Bighit as a trainee to become a hip hop artist and still worked hard and did not falter when that goal changed; learning to dance and what it means to be an idol, studying and working part time, fighting with suicidal thoughts, depression, self-hatred, a broken shoulder, and more. Who spends countless of sleepless nights working on music and lyrics, even on the nights that they are on vacation or when they just come back from a performance. Who truly showed us that though the start may be humble, the end will be prosperous. Thank you for teaching us what it means to live with passion, thank you for always working hard even if you don’t need to. You may not believe it, but this award is real and you deserve it. You’ve achieved all of your goals now! You’ve worked hard to be where you are. Thank you for showing us that hardwork and determination will never, ever betray us.

Here’s to J-Hope. Who was a street dancer and came into Bighit planning to become a vocalist and dancer. Who, when everyone doubted his skills, practiced even harder to become the well-rounded artist that he is now. Who taught himself how to rap and how to write lyrics despite having little experience in that area and is now one of the main creators behind bts’s music. Who practices every night, working on his mixtape and working on his dance skills, because he loves to do so. Who shows us what it means to live with hope and who never fails to show us happiness even in the most difficult of times. I hope you know that we are aware of how thoughtful you are, I hope you know that our love for you is eternal, and I hope you know that you too are more than deserving for this reward. And I just hope that you know that your existence to us gives us strength, that you do not always have to put yourself behind a happy facade and force yourself to hide your true emotions. We know the wide range of thoughts that you have running in your head and we absolutely care for and love all of them.

Here’s to Jimin. Who was a diligent student that studied dance so passionately. Who spends nearly every night in the practice room because he thinks “who am I to be resting right now?” I think of how you cried when people doubted your skills and I hope you know that those people are completely wrong. Your voice is something that touches our hearts and moves us and your skill in dance never fails to amaze us. You belong on stage. Here’s to Jimin. Who also showers his members with such adoration and affection, who is always there to comfort them in the darkest of times. Thank you for showing us what it means to be a good friend and brother. Thank you for showing us what it means to be kind. I hope you know that we love you just the way you are and that it’s okay to rest and to make mistakes. Please don’t ever doubt yourself.

Here’s to Taehyung. Who had to get the help of the Bighit staff to convince his family to let him begin training. Who wanted to be a farmer so that he could help his grandmother in Daegu. Who has been so strong throughout this difficult and painful year. Who still performed passionately for us even when he lost one of the most important woman in his life. Who put up a joyful front for so long even though he was actually in so much pain. Who constantly shows us new sides to his personality. Who constantly works hard in all that he does. Thank you for never failing to put a smile on our faces even when you were going through such a low point and thank you for teaching us what it means to be a filial child. Thank you for loving bangtan just as much as we do and thank you for always being so kind and bright. You share so much with us even when we aren’t deserving of it, Your stage presence and skill never fails to amaze me as well. We will remember your grandmother and we will always thank her for her blessings. You are more than deserving of this award. We know how wide the spectrum of your thoughts are and we know how intelligent you are- no matter what type of expression you might have on your face, your existence is always one that we will love.

Here’s to Jungkook. Who started training at such a young age, who was so shy and insecure about himself. Who left his family in Busan to come up to Seoul when he was just 14 years old. Who sacrificed the chance of making so many important memories for his dream, who sacrificed his youth for us. You gave up so many childhood memories- school romances, field days, school friends- to be on stage. Thank you. I think of how you cry when you think of the hardships that his members are going through and I thank you for trusting your brothers and your future, you deserve all the love in this world but please realize that you, also, have been through so many difficult times and have dealt with hardships. It’s okay to not be strong all the time. Thank you for showing us your growth and your endurance and passion. Thank you for showering us with love in so many ways  (whether it be through your detailed song covers or your concert ments), thank you for becoming the person that you are today. Please know that even when your thoughts are cluttered and messy, we are always here to support you and love you. You are more than deserving of this award, thank you for sharing your youth with us.

Lastly, here’s to BTS. This whole entire post of mine is incredibly cheesy but they really do mean a lot to me. Not only do they brighten my every day with their humor and antics but they each have taught me so many things and they constantly inspire me in all that they do. They have taught me to dream, to be diligent, to be loving, to be humble, and to trust my future. More importantly, they have taught me what it means to be young. So here’s to BTS and their first daesang. You deserve it more than anybody in this world and you each are deserving of all the love in this universe. Thank you for showing us that we never are alone and thank you for understanding us and showing us what it means to achieve your dreams and to live with passion. We hear your voice.

Here’s to the first of many more :)

Screwball Ninja’s Mini-OUAT Review: 6x19 The Black Fairy

But to find a mother younger than her son is very curious … “ -Iolanthe

This was a great episode, thematically speaking. It had a plot twist and Zelena being relevant and Rumple bringing his A+ acting and lots of Jaime Murray, which is never a bad thing. Here we go!

  1. The price for casting the Dark Curse is the Heart of the Thing You Love Most– which for the Black Fairy would be either Malcolm or Rumple, right? Even if the Black Fairy and Tiger Lily had a hot affair (no indications so far except for sharing clothes), Tiger Lily would come a distant third to Malcolm/Rumple in the line of Things Black Fairy Loves. But the flashback made it look like the BF was going to cast the curse herself, only required “wolfsbane”, and was only going to crush Tiger Lily’s heart because she was in the way. So did the O.G. Dark Curse NOT require the Heart of the Thing You Love Most and that got added in UAT to make it work? Or is the show saying the BF loves Tiger Lily more than Rumple? Or did the BF add a “you have to be THIS TALL to get your heart crushed on this ride” clause to exempt babies from the price of the curse to spare Rumple? Beta testing this thing must be a bitch.
  2. If being willing to kill to cast a Dark Curse makes you a “Great Evil,” then are Regina, Snowing, and Hook ALL “Great Evils” ‘cause they cast Dark Curses? Was Hook’s Dark Curse 3.0 even broken?
  3. Malcolm turning his grief about losing his wife into hatred of his child is unfortunately a common trope in fairy tales where mothers frequently didn’t survive childbirth. And I laughed that he thought the best way to hurt his kid was to name him “Rumplestiltskin.” Ouch.
  4. Both Rumple’s parents are peasants who turned themselves into immortal, magical creatures who rule over realms of kidnapped children (mostly boys) where time is screwy? You’d think the Blue Fairy would have tossed Pan in the Dark Realm just to cut down on the kidnappings.
  5. Speaking of which, does the Blue Fairy just not give a damn that kids are disappearing all over the Enchanted Forest to go to Neverland/the Dark Realm for hundreds of years? “Welp, lost another one! Move to the next baby on the list, girls!” Also, didn’t she care that all the kids of Rumple’s country were being massacred by ogres? What good, pray tell, is a fairy’s protection?
  6. Points forever to Zelena for being relatable hating IKEA furniture and running over the Black Fairy in her green Ford pinto (with bonus monkey key-chain). The show has finally found Zelena’s narrative function: comedic relief and back-up Mills assistance. I’m actually looking forward to Zelena scenes– good job, show! But flag on the play for Regina saying Henry can “raise Zelena” in case Storybrooke goes up in flames. Not only is that not fair to Henry but Zelena did help kill Henry’s dad. But I guess Regina killed Henry’s grandfather and great-grandpa and Hook killed Henry’s other great-grandpa and Snow killed Henry’s grandmother and Rumple killed Henry’s great-grandfather and … yikes. This family!
  7. Emma was more like her S1 self in her one-on-one scenes with Rumple– showing empathy and self-reflection and bonding over growing up orphans. As long as she acts like this all the time I don’t care what she wears or who she dates– she can wear a potato sack and date the cursed puppet people for all I care.
  8. The World’s Most Insensitive Person Award this episode goes to Snow, who when Rumple says he’s killed his long-lost mother to protect everyone, immediately says: “Good, we can have the wedding tomorrow.” Damn, Snow. That’s cold. Also impractical, considering Granny’s not going to bake you a cake when you’ve just wrecked her restaurant.
  9. This episode introduces Rumple’s most obvious triple cross of all time. Don’t see the body? Then they ain’t dead! Of course Rumple’s going to play along with mom to get Gideon’s heart back and learn her Evil Plan, only to shiv her to rescue Belle/Gideon/everyone else in the finale. What bothers me is that he gives a general disclaimer to Belle and Gideon that “it may not look like at the time, but everything I do is to protect you” but doesn’t actually let Belle into his triple-cross scheme. There’s only three episodes left– can’t he go one episode without lying to Belle? Isn’t lying to “protect” her part of the reason he got banished in S4?
  10. To the list of Things That Have More Screentime Than Belle in 6B we can add: Random wand parts, Rumple’s cradle AND an IKEA crib, Blue Fairy’s cleavage, the BF’s sparkly tiara, Zelena’s green pinto, Emma’s dream beanie, and Granny’s jukebox. If Belle, who’s Gideon’s mother and wants to be a hero, doesn’t have at least ONE kick-ass moment in an arc whose theme is heroism and motherhood I’m going to flip a table. Tick-fucking-tock, show.
  11. Belle’s happy about Rumple’s Savior past because she’s always emphasized that he’s a good person who “makes bad choices”, as opposed to Rumple’s opinion of himself as just a bad person. This is an important distinction because bad people can ONLY do bad things, whereas if you dislike someone’s decisions they can always make better ones. (I gave the same speech to my toddler the other day.) This is similar to Zelena and Regina kissing and making up in 5B when they had their memories returned of being happy that one afternoon as kids; knowing that reconciliation was possible in the past gives them the confidence to try and love each other in the present. So Rumple knowing he COULD be a savior might give him the confidence to shine out a hero in the finale.
  12. They pulled a Captainswanus Interruptus again, with Hook sleeping elsewhere before the wedding. Are Hook and Emma ever going to get confirmed boning before the season ends?
  13. I love that in the final BF/Rumple nighttime scene the moon is a crescent moon, just like the BF’s tattoo. What a nice little touch.

Bonus: Why is Emma wearing a modified prison shirt?

This is for the writing challenge: Nancy Muglingan by Ed Sheeran + Zen I'm so obsessed with this song 😅

This song is about how Ed Sheeran´s grandfather meet…So, if I correct…Sooo

Grandchild of Zen and MC telling their love story

-“So how did your grandparents meet?”

-“Why are you asking me that?”

-“Well, Isn’t obvious?”

-“No”

-“Your grandfather is the best Actor EVER! And like he just made history?”

-“But why you ask about my grandmother too?”

-“Because your grandfather always mentions her in his speeches when he wins and award”

-“Well…I really don´t know.My fathers tell me hey haven´t told me…They say that I have to be old enough?”

-“What?”

-“But I know some parts?”

-“Like what?”

-“First of all, I don´t see my Grampa like ´THE KNIGHT OF THEATRE’, I just see him like Papo”

-“Papo?”

-“Yeah…I was a baby and he let me use it. So, I know that my grandfathers love each other even until now they have a very strong bond but my grandma is angry with Papo because he wants to return to theater-“

-“WOW that´s awesome”

-“But he is very old now.”

-“I had seen photos of him is working out and everything”

-“Yeah! He is so healthy, unlike my grandma…”

-“Oh! Yeah, She has cancer. That most hit him hard”

-“Yes but Papo will never be sad in front my grandma. He always bright flowers to the hospital and he tells her stories to about when they were younger.”

-“That´s sweet~”

-“I had heard something about an app and crazy stuff but I really don´t know”

-“I really what to hear their love story…”

-“My grandma once said ´I can resume  our love story in 3 words ´CONTOL THE BEAST´ I don´t why she says that…”

Tae mentioned that his grandmother passed away this September; the day they won their first award for BS&T, it was her 49th day. She took care of him for 14 years. He told us how much he loves us, and that he wants us to keep her forever in our memories. She was such a big part of his life, I remember all the times he was talking about his grandma whenever he found an opportunity. You could clearly see how much he cared and loved her.
Tae is the type of guy who acts tough and strong on the outside but is vulnerable and sensitive on the inside. This honestly made my heart break to pieces. It makes it even worse being so far away from him and not being able to comfort and be by his side when he is facing such hard times. I’m crying so much watching this, but I’m glad he has bangtan there for him; I’m relieved by how jimin ran to hug him right when he finished speaking and I’m heartbroken by how jungkook cried too for him. No wonder he got emotional whenever his grandma was mentioned. No wonder he looked so tired lately. No wonder big hit took action against all the hate. Our boys are at a weak point and all they deserve is more love than they get. I just wish I could be there and hug him, but all i can do is send him my best condolences… Please support their hardworking, armys. Please love them more. Please love Taehyung more…

Starting out in Destiny’s Child, high-end labels didn’t really want to dress four black, country, curvy girls, and we couldn’t afford designer dresses and couture. My mother was rejected from every showroom in New York. But like my grandmother, she used her talent and her creativity to give her children their dreams. My mother and my uncle, God rest his soul, made all of our first costumes, individually sewing hundreds of crystals and pearls, putting so much passion and love into every small detail. When I wore these clothes I felt like Khaleesi. I had an extra suit of armor. It was so much deeper than any brand name.

“The Trailblazer Award is for someone who breaks the mold, they said. And that’s absolutely Shailene. I remember right after Divergent came out it was like the biggest movie in the world. And Shailene was the biggest star in the world. And she took that as an opportunity to get rid of all of her possessions. She was literally, like, living out of her suitcase. She gave her grandmother her house. Got rid of her car. And that’s the kind of girl she is. It’s not about fame or fortune.I honestly can say I’ve never been in a room with somebody who emits more of a radiant, positive light. Shailene is an incredible force of nature. I’m sure when she gets up here, she’d like to give you all a heart hug, which is where you hug and your hearts touch. But she can’t, so she’ll just accept the award graciously. But, Shailene, I love you. I feel like I’ve written a bunch of speeches for you at this point. I’m always happy to do it, because you’re an incredible actress. And that’s really only matched by your integrity, and who you are as a person.” - Miles Teller presents Shailene Woodley with the MTV Trailblazer Award

Erin/Ebie whatever the hell- and tracy are so stupid, posting a pic of NWA and eazy’s mom and I think tomica at the hall of fame saying “fuck this picture ” and her usual messy dialogue.  She ranted about her grandmother.

Under a photo with EAZY’S MOM in it. saying eazy’s kids should have been there.

The hall of fame awards only give you two tickets. The person who owns nwa was there, Eazy’s mom was there. Eazy has 11 kids . You do the math. None of you all could go and none of the nwa other members kids were there.

You don’t have that attitude when eazy’s mom was there to accept the award on his behalf. It wasn’t worth that. Especially not under those the circumstances.

How much you wanna bet if one of the kids were able to go, because it could only be one, and it wasn’t her she’d be mad still.

Like Lil eazy’s reaction was the opposite because he was happy his grandmother got to do it.

Today I really felt like I made a difference as a librarian.

About eight months ago our library started checking out Kindles and nooks for kids. These devices are pre-loaded with all of the Rebecca Caudill and Bluestem award nominees for the year. They’ve been circulating very well and we’re super happy with them.

Today, a grandmother called because she needed to check out the same book for both of her granddaughters, but one of them can only see out of one eye. Reading is very difficult for her at times and she often needs to read large print books. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the book she was looking for in large print, but we did have Kindles available. Because you can adjust the font size on a Kindle our entire collection of Caudills and Bluestems is now accessible to patrons who need to read large print books. For some reason I’d never considered this before!

The grandma left super happy and I’m left feeling like I really made a difference today!

I don't follow pop culture, but I know some big stuff went down recently. Could you give me a breakdown on what's going on between Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj, and what this at all has to do at all with Taylor Swift? Honestly I'm a little confused.

So to preface this, I am white, what I’m going to explain will be my best attempt to do justice to the issues that have been covered in these events but bear in mind they are coming through the filter of a white person and if anyone sees an issue I neglected to bring up or something problematic I say, please please please tell me, anon or not, otherwise I won’t know.

First off. There’s the brief twitter discussion that went on between Taylor and Nicki. It started when Nicki was pointing out the hypocrisy in the music industry that revolves around white artists using black culture and music and then having white people award white people awards for copying black artists. Just look at Iggy, Eminem, and Riff Raff. Itchy Areola is well known for her racism, Eminem periodically raps about abusing women, and do I really have to say anything about Riff Raff??? Just google image his name and you’ll see. But white people just love them while constantly shitting on artists like Nicki, Kendrick Lamar, or Drake. For gods sake Miley made a joke about Biggie Smalls being murdered by LAPD (but more on that later) After Nicki pointed all that out, Taylor misread the entire situation and swerved out of her lane. There’s a post that’s floating around that I can’t link to (Because I’m technically on mobile) But it summed up the discussion nicely with
“Nicki: Racism!
Taylor: Sexism?
Nicki: No, racism.” and I’ll add to the end of it that Taylor did apologize for not staying in her own lane and I’m pretty sure she learned what was up with that.

Last night was the Video Music Awards, hosted by Miley Cyrus, and to be honest I didn’t watch it, I don’t have cable. But from what I gather from tumblr Miley was particularly bad. Miley has been appropriating black culture almost since she left Disney Channel and it’s well documented. But last night was just really bad… First of all she was interviewed a few days ago and the last third to quarter of the interview questions were related to Nicki Minaj and her uproar about ‘Anaconda’ not being nominated despite it’s immense success and popularity (this uproar is exactly the twitter discussion that Taylor butted into) And if Taylor swerved out of her lane with her comments, Miley fucking ran right into oncoming traffic. She says she didn’t really pay much attention to it, that she heard this or that, when all she had to do was look up the tweets. Ultimately she essentially insulted Nicki and said that Nicki is rude and angry and blah blah blah angry black woman stereotypes, AND BECAUSE OF THAT Nicki doesn’t deserve attention… Not only does this perpetuate the ‘angry black woman’ stereotype that is used to wash away any legitimate criticism black women level against anyone or anything, but this is also a tactic used by a lot of oppressors, to poke and prod the groups they’re oppressing and finally when the oppressed cry out in anger and frustration the oppressors say “See? You can’t even be civil how can you expect us to take you seriously?” And just earlier today actually I saw this great quote from Kat Blaque that summed up (again I’m on mobile or I would link to it, I’ll see if I can dig it up after I post this) the quote essentially boils down to that what oppressors really want is for the oppressed to sit there quietly grinning and bearing it so they don’t have to think about all the horrible and inhuman things happening to them.

Now, back to the VMA’s. Miley showed up with fake blonde dreadlocks which were much loved by white newscasters (Compare to Zendaya’s fake dreadlocks and the reaction to those). She went onstage making an excessive amount of weed jokes. She even went so far as to write off Kanye’s entire speech down to “So that’s what he’s like high” ENTIRELY WRITING OFF EVERYTHING HE TALKED ABOUT AS HIM BEING HIGH. She also appropriated black language and I’ve seen some discussion revolving around her use of the word mammy, and whether or not she was meant to be referring to her actual grandmother who appeared in a skit with her or whether it was a very racist reference to Snoop. I don’t know who she was referring to but honestly with her history of racism, if she cared at all about not seeming racist she wouldn’t have done any of the shit she did including use that word on national television. Finally Nicki was rightfully recognized for her incredible success with 'Anaconda’ and she was given an award. I’m sure you’ve seen the video by now. She walked up, thanked her fans, thanked her pastor, and then she took Miley’s life on national television with a smile on her face. Miley of course tried to turn it around and blame the media for twisting her words but honestly I read the solid paragraphs of pure quotation with no edits of what she said and even as a white person I can see she was really really racist and disrespectful to Nicki.

Outside of the strict Miley being racist at the VMA’s and specifically to Nicki, Taylor swerving and Nicki setting her straight, there’s a lot of other things that happened like Miley’s sexualization of a pregnant woman and her baby (really creepy btw)

There are much better discussions of all the nuances of what happened and I’m not qualified to speak on those and I highly encourage you to educate yourself on these things and never stop, I try to do that myself.

Beyonce’s CFDA awards speech

Taylor Swift Gives $50,000 to Seattle Symphony

It might not be what some people would expect to find on her playlist. But it turns out that Taylor Swift is a fan of the Seattle Symphony’s recording of “Become Ocean,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning work by John Luther Adams — so much so that it inspired her to make a $50,000 donation to the orchestra, it announced on Thursday.

Ms. Swift, one of today’s most popular and powerful pop stars, praised the recording of Mr. Adams’s large-scale, hypnotic, environmentally aware “Become Ocean” in a letter she wrote to the orchestra’s music director, Ludovic Morlot.

“I was thrilled to hear that Taylor was moved by ‘Become Ocean,’ like all of us at the Seattle Symphony,” Mr. Morlot said in a statement. “This is a powerful piece with a unique soundscape. We’re especially thankful that she wishes to support our musicians, and that she shares our belief that all people should be able to experience symphonic music.”

Ms. Swift’s gift to the orchestra will be used to support an educational program called “Link Up: Seattle Symphony” that works with elementary school students, and to bolster the musicians’ pension fund. In her letter to Mr. Morlot, the orchestra said, she reminisced fondly about attending orchestral concerts with her grandmother.

It was not immediately clear how Ms. Swift came to hear the piece, which the Seattle Symphony commissioned. Of course, both Ms. Swift and Mr. Adams have something in common — they are Grammy Award winners. The recording of “Become Ocean,” released by Cantaloupe Music, won a Grammy for best contemporary classical composition, while Ms. Swift has won seven of the awards.

In the past, a favorable mention of an artist by Ms. Swift on one of her widely followed social media accounts has been known to boost sales and fortunes. It will be interesting to see if the Swift effect will carry over to a different genre, with a modern orchestral work.

Beyoncé`s full speech at the CFDA awards !!!

“Thank you so much, Diane, for the things you just said about me. I feel so much love and I feel so proud. As long as I can remember, fashion has been part of my life. Its effect on me actually started before I was born. Many of you guys don’t know this, but my grandmother was a seamstress. My grandparents did not have enough money, they could not afford my mother’s Catholic school tuition. So my grandmother sewed clothes for the priests and the nuns and made uniforms for the students in exchange for my mother’s education. She then passed this gift onto my mother and taught her how to sew.

Starting out in Destiny’s Child, high-end labels didn’t really want to dress four black country curvy girls, and we couldn’t afford designer dresses and couture.

My mother is fabulous and beautiful and she’s here tonight. My mother, my grandmother, and my uncle are always with me so I cannot fail. My mother actually designed my wedding dress, my prom dress, my first CFDA Award dress, my first Grammy dress, and the list goes on and on. And this to me is the true power and potential of fashion. It’s a tool for finding your own identity. It transcends style, and it’s a time capsule of all of our greatest milestones. So to my mother, my grandmother, my uncle, thank y’all. Thank you for showing me that having presence is about far more than the clothes you wear and your physical beauty. Thank you for showing me how to take risks, work hard, and live life on my own terms.

I want to say thank you to every designer who works tirelessly to make people think they can write their own story. Y’all are fairy godmothers, magicians, sculptors, and sometimes even our therapists. I encourage you to not forget this power you have or to take it lightly. We have the opportunity to contribute to a society where any girl can look at a billboard or magazine cover and see her own reflection. Soul has no color, no shape, no form. Just like all of your work, it goes far beyond what the eye can see. You have the power to change perception, to inspire and empower, and to show people how to embrace their complications, and see the flaws, and the true beauty and strength that’s inside all of us. Thank you so much for this incredible award, I’ll never forget this night. God bless you all. Thank you.”
