all of this isn't really the point of this post but it is something to think about

Types of Overwatch Mains
  • Tracer: You're either gay or upset that Tracer is gay. You haven't removed the Sprinter Legendary Skin ever since you got it. You drink coffee before bed. Own a pair of crocs. Ass.
  • Winston: You still post Harambe memes. Hi there. You're probably really nice and just want to help. You want to form lasting friendships. You're a furry to the point of being a zoophile.
  • Soldier 76: You think this is just COD with a different skin. You have a thing for older men and tag pictures of him as "dad". You're kinda basic but you own up to it. Stay frosty.
  • Reaper: You had a Sonic OC that was a recolor of Shadow. Thighs. You save pictures of barn owls on your phone. Your name is not important. You go to Hot Topic "just to look". Like to be choked during sex.
  • McCree: You fucking love McDonalds. You've gone to a male strip club at least once. Red Dead Redemption is the best Rockstar game. You can aim pretty alright. You can never get your Ult in time. You want to flirt with the Hanzo on your team.
  • Mercy: No one else picked a healer. Witch skin is best skin. You probably have nice hair and remember to moisturize. You're secretly bitter about...something. You kill the enemy Genji every time out of spite.
  • Pharah: You're gay. You fucking hate snipers. You're allergic to walking. You'll waste your ult on one tank. You probably played basketball in high school. You're probs real nice but hella defensive. You only play Samus on SSB.
  • Genji: Avidly update your MAL profile. You're a 12-15 year old boy. Raiden is your favorite Metal Gear character. You want to kill a Bastion. You own a Naruto headband. MADA MADA. You charge into the enemy team by yourself then spam for heals.
  • Hanzo: You draw gay porn. You draw gay furry porn. You can kind of aim but not really. You think every attack team needs a third sniper. You practice wall climbing in spawn. Okami skin is best skin.
  • Zenyatta: You can't stop playing with your balls. You don't fear death. You're a chill dude who loves everyone except Roadhog. Discord Orbs magically appear over the enemy Bastion.
  • Ana: You want to play a healer but kind of want to be defense too. You prefer older women but like her Captain Amari skin anyway. You waste your nanoboost on Mercy just for laughs. You want to kill the enemy Widowmaker first. You don't care about getting POTG.
  • Widowmaker: Ass. Glad that Tracer's a lesbian but depressed because she isn't with Widow. You preordered the game just for the Noire skin. You don't mind pictures of her with a dick. Her Mistletoe Highlight is permanently equipped.
  • Sombra: You spam the Boop! voice line every time you get a kill. Charge into the enemy team while invisible despite having a weak ass gun. Always waste your Translocater. You have a foot fetish. You know basic HTML. つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
  • Symmetra: You swear on your life there will be a Portal 3 some day. You have her sit emote three times on your wheel with only one reserved by her clapping emote. You think you're smarter than everyone else. You're kinda quiet.
  • D.VA: You like K-Pop and K Dramas. You like anime too but not as much as Genji mains. Know every Evangelion meme. You were drawing porn of her before you even learned she was legal. Want a gamer GF. Get your mech destroyed just to teabag.
  • Mei: You like em thicc. You enjoy the suffering of others. You say hi right before killing an enemy. You have a glasses fetish. You have at least one penguin shirt. You've killed a man.
  • Zarya: We get it, you like Heavy. You're gay. You have a muscle fetish. You get in fights with Trump supporters on Twitter and always win. You've always wanted to be a big sister. You're going for the Tobelstein.
  • Lucio: Contesting is your life. You're still trying to get the "Floor is Lava" trophy. Dubstep. Made your own version of Lucio Ball in the custom game engine. You're a slut a for healing.
  • Bastion: You want Play of The Game. You're twelve. You cry every time you can't find Wall-E on Netflix. Leads bugs outside instead of killing them. You think beeping noises are cute.
  • Orisa: Mercy isn't big enough for you. You're one of those weird horse fetishists. She's a robot so it's okay. You're not worried about Doomfist. You keep a picture of Efi in your wallet.
  • Reinhardt: You're either really, really nice or an asshole. Secretly hoping there's an enemy Reinhardt on the other team. You have a pocket Mercy or Ana. You think guns are boring. CATCH PHRASE. You always say Hi first in spawn.
  • Torbjörn: You like all the Lego movies and games. You want to win but not really try at the same time. IKEA furniture assembling gets you excited. Symmetra is too hard for you. You get a perfect view of everyone's ass without crouching.
  • Junkrat: You can't aim for shit but you came here to have fun. You unironically like Johnny Test. You kill yourself on purpose. You enjoy garbage. You have strange tastes in food and porn.
  • Roadhog: You defend vore on DeviantArt. You vape. You enjoy the smell of gasoline. The hook is totally balanced. Your favorite Mortal Kombat character is Scorpion. You love the new Mad Max.

Hey! Can I ask where this " Jeremy Shada said we don't need to worry about lgbt representation, we will be happy" comes from? Is there like a video or a tweet that proves that? Bc I never saw evidence and honestly I am concerned that this is just sb messing with our hopes. Also, isn't it possible that the lgbt representation has nothing to do with lance? Maybe it is sb else. Idk. I hate getting my hopes up ._.

it’s from this post! i doubt the OP is messing with us lol also it’s 100% something to do with lance, my good dude……… BECAUSE……

this is official art by lauren montgomery. i have said this before and i’ll say it again, but pidge’s sign has to do with her arc, her gender reveal. keith’s sign has to do with his arc, his galra heritage reveal. this was posted before s2 aired and it clearly foreshadows galra keith. not coincidences. lance’s sign definitely has to do with him and his arc, his sexuality reveal. lauren would not make keith’s sign and pidge’s sign related to them and then make lance’s sign have nothing to do with him. this stuff is all planned from the start. she’s also the one who said this:

[on expressions] “if we know that a character is feeling something about that- that moment- especially if we know there’s something coming up down the line that maybe hasn’t been revealed, but it would make that character feel a certain way- we try to insert in there a nod to it.”

which is important to remember while watching the show but also when looking at this art because a lot can be taken from their expressions. keith, pidge, and lance look much more unsure and nervous and they’re holding their signs with both of their hands, indicating that HEY this is my sign, it has something to do with me and i’m anxious about it. hunk, allura, and shiro appear to be showing support. shiro and hunk especially look very confident. allura has both of her hands on the sign but her arm is around pidge, like a hug. allura’s the one who tried to coax pidge into telling her her gender. shiro easily could’ve been put with pidge since he was very supportive of her but allura has her own connection to the gender sign (and shiro’s put with lance for a reason). she’s a princess but she is not your “typical princess.” here’s a comment someone left on my klance masterpost about this and i completely agree:

I think Allura has one more reason for holding a gender sign with Pidge, and that is because she challenges the gender stereotypes. She’s not your typical little princess who needs to be protected by all means. She’s a tough young woman that can (and will) kick your ass, and I think that alone is a very powerful message to all the girls that watch this show. It’s a reminder that, no matter what society might claim, they are strong, and they can accomplish anything if they put their mind to it.

hunk has his hand on keith’s shoulder, showing support. he stood by keith after he found out he’s part galra. he was cracking jokes about it and he was there for him. think “belly of the weblum” and all their moments together. also, in “stayin’ alive” when allura thanks hunk for getting the scaultrite, he says, “no problem. you know, keith was there too.” hunk is samoan, so he also has his own connection to the race sign. then, we have shiro holding the LGBT sign with lance, one hand on his shoulder in support. the LGBT rep definitely has to do with lance, you shouldn’t worry. there’s so much backing it up. i think shiro will play some sort of supportive role when it comes to lance’s sexuality and since hunk and allura are connected to the signs they’re holding, shiro may end up being LGBT, too. also, the sign art connects with the paladins of old, as well… which was pointed out to me by @farmlandtensions:

zarkon, a galra, was the original black paladin.
keith, a part galra boy, is the current black paladin.

trigel, the only female paladin on her team, was the original green paladin.
pidge, the only female paladin on her team (before allura became a paladin, obviously) is the current green paladin.

blaytz, who was shown flirting with a male galra, was the original blue paladin.
lance, a boy who is totally not straight, we grew to know as the blue paladin.

they make parallels and show similarities between blaytz and lance to show that, yes, they’re comparing them rather than comparing blaytz and allura.

for the 100th time, this stuff isn’t a coincidence.

the bi flag colors and the gay flag colors have been used in the show on two separate occasions now. first, in s1ep6… an episode with some great klance moments. next, in s3ep3… another episode with some great klance moments. studio mir is animating VLD and they also animated TLOK. the bi flag colors were in the background of the finale of korra. i’ve always theorized that since pidge’s gender arc was in s1 and keith’s race arc was in s2, that lance’s sexuality arc would be in s3. other people think this, too. seeing as how s4 is basically just part 2 of s3, taking the BIG amount of development between keith and lance in s3 into consideration and the fact that lance did not flirt with allura for the entirety of s3, or anyone, actually. i think this will, hopefully, come to fruition in s4 and they will touch on lance’s sexuality. if not, we’ll get it eventually

also, in interviews, they don’t always simply say lance flirts with girls. jeremy shada, especially, does this. in lance’s birthday livestream, he says:

[about lance] “a super like, flirty person that’s hitting on every *hesitates* person that has two legs.”

i’m not kidding btw, he literally hesitates a little before saying person. i don’t have the link to the vid but you can find it easily by googling lance’s birthday livestream. in the famous “lance falling in love” quote, he does this, too:

jeremy would definitely know by now that lance isn’t straight and it’s really obvious that he’s sitting on that information. he’s done this at least one other time that i know of, as well. if lance was straight, this stuff? it would not happen. they would always just say girl/girls.

True Crime

  • Serial - I don’t think it’s possible to be a podcast fan and not have (at the very least) heard about Serial. so, um. if you have any particular feelings about labyrinth--specifically Sarah--uh, go wild.

The morning after Sarah Williams defeats the Goblin King, she gets up and makes toast. She has to brush some glitter off the toaster—it withers and vanishes at the brush of her fingertips, and she stares at her hand for a long time.

It mostly just looks like her hand. Even when she turns it over, and sees where she scraped her knuckles against the oubliette, where the shattered mirror cut the back of her wrist. It looks like she fell, or was playing in the street. That’s all.

The toast comes out burned, and Sarah stares at that too. Eventually, she slumps down against the cabinets and cries, wracking sobs that send her dad and Karen rushing into kitchen. They check her forehead for a fever, put their hands on her, and keep asking, “Are you okay? Sarah, please, tell us what’s wrong…”

Eventually, her dad drags her into his lap and cradles her against his chest, like he did when she was little. Her legs are too long to really fit anymore, but Sarah hugs him around the neck anyway. “It’ll be okay,” he says, keeps saying. “You’ll be okay.” And Sarah—doesn’t laugh, because she can’t, and doesn’t have the words to express what—how—

(None of her stories ever talked about this. What did Sir George do, the morning after he slayed the last dragon in England? Did Tam Lin eat breakfast, or did he sit there, shivering, wondering if his hands were different, having been claws and wings and scales?)

Afterwards, she leaves the burnt toast outside on the back porch. Not an offering. Maybe a reminder.

It’s Didymus she sees the most often, mostly because he’s the one who invites himself rather than waiting for an invitation. He comes for tea, but even if there’s no tea—which there isn’t, usually—he comes to tell Sarah stories. She learns to love poetry because there’s no escaping it with him. (She won’t read Idylls of the King until Brit Lit in college, but she ends up scrawling a lot in the margins; Didymus’ telling of events had been much more interesting.)

Once, she falls asleep like that, her hands tucked behind her head with Didymus curled up and sleepily reciting from the crook of her elbow. “So tender was her voice, so fair her face—though I don’t think he was looking at her face, my lady, pardon me for saying so—”

Sarah buries her nose in his fur. Didymus always smells of rosewater, and a crispness she thinks is just…the Labyrinth. She falls asleep trying to place it.

She wakes up with a wild fox in her bed, animal-black eyes frightened and flat, teeth bared. The fox is whining, and she’s tempted to throw herself across the room, to get away from this wild thing and its teeth. It takes a monumental will to keep herself still and her breathing slow, even; like she’s still asleep and unafraid.

It takes her longer to swallow, and start humming one of the songs he taught her—a knight’s round, he’d said. She’s shaky at first, but the fox’s ears flick forward. It cocks its head, and slowly, the teeth disappear behind its lips.

She almost laughs when noses at her throat curiously, butting its head against her jaw like a cat might.

i--probably--hate--you  asked:

I would also like to point out that not all AZA accredited zoos are good and live up to the AZA standards. The Memphis, TN zoo is one of them. They're very lacking in terms of space for their animals. The cats are often in small enclosures and pace around so much that the ground has ruts in it from their pacing. I know that repetitive behavior isn't always a bad thing, but to the point of having ruts in the ground? The elephants also look malnourished. They have very saggy skin.

So, yesterday we were talking about how as a guest it’s really hard to make judgement calls about the animals in a zoo because you don’t know anything about their history or how they’re being cared for, and that that’s why it’s really important to ask staff when you’ve got concerns? This ask is a pretty good example of that.

I reached out to some Memphis staffers after receiving this ask, and was totally honest about why: I said we’d been discussing zoos on my blog and that someone had written in with a couple of specific concerns. Within a day or two, I’d been put in contact with the correct keepers to get answers to my questions.

What you’re likely seeing as abnormal pacing in the big cats is anticipatory behavior, since that’s a very common thing their animals do when they can see or hear keepers near their exhibit. Trails do wear down naturally in exhibits if animals have preferred walking paths, more so in wet periods such as spring, and in older exhibits the routes most commonly taken by residents are fairly well developed. Since you didn’t specify what species of big cat you were referring to, I wasn’t able to get more specific information, except that there is one big cat who does display some abnormal pacing behavior due to some of her history and that the staff are aware of it and actively working on it.

I couldn’t find any good photos of their cat exhibits to embed in this post as an example, but what I did see when searching google for images is that almost all of the photos of their cats are taken on perches in the exhibit, such as logs or rock outcroppings. It’s important to remember that for large cats, vertical space is just as important a factor as horizontal space - an exhibit that seems too small in square-footage may in fact have a large amount of usable space comprised of climbing structures, hammocks, and hidden perches.

As to the elephants, they have saggy skin because they’re, well, elephants - and in one case, one of the oldest elephants in North America. AZA also recently did a large elephant welfare survey that’s being used to improve their elephant care standards, and according to the scale for that study the elephant at Memphis are in good body condition for their age and size. What’s more, they’re in phenomenal health: the Memphis Zoo staffers have been running a metabolic study on the three elephant ladies at their facility, so they’ve got the data to back up that claim.

I would hazard a guess that if you’d taken the time to ask any Memphis staffers while on grounds, or to reach out to their social media team with questions after leaving, you’d have gotten the same information that I did. I know people really want to think they can make informed judgement calls about the welfare of animals in zoos, but unless you happen to have personal animal management experience with that specific species, it’s probable that you’re going to be completely off-base. Especially at AZA zoos, assume there’s information you don’t have and something you’re probably seeing, and ask a keeper for clarification.

For Once, Something Is Not Actually The Jedi’s Fault

A commenter on one of my fics said something that made me think of this, and now it’s bugging me.

I think the Star Wars fandom seriously underestimates, as a rule, exactly how huge a leap of logic “Palpatine is a Sith Lord” would realistically be, in-universe.

Like…there’s a reason “hiding in plain sight” is a thing. A shadowy figure operating on the fringes of the galaxy would actually be a lot easier to trace, a lot easier to identify. Sheev Palpatine is a public figure. It’s the same reason nobody assumes Clark Kent is Superman. They know who Clark Kent is! He’s got a paper trail, a tax record. He’s a reporter for a newspaper. Everyone knows who he is, where he comes from, his apartment’s address, and what he does all day. Nobody has any reason to suspect he’s secretly that alien in the red underpants who fights evil and punches meteors because they know damn well he’s a nerdy farm boy who burns Ramen.

Palpatine’s an established figure in politics and has been for decades. He can’t be a Sith Lord because he’s right there in the public eye, passing legislation and dealing with beaurocracy and not waving a lightsaber or performing creepy Dark experiments. We know what Sith Lords do the same way we know what Superman does, and they certainly don’t complain about getting headaches from having to file form X1-138-FR629-B in triplicate with the mining guilds.

It’s Palpatine’s very establishment status that allows him to get away with being more active toward establishing the Sith empire. Because he’s just sort of always been there, when the Jedi begin looking for the source of this sudden darkness in the Force they don’t look at him.

Why should they? When looking for the source of something that’s just recently come up, you look at what’s changed. Sheev Palpatine isn’t new. Sheev Palpatine has been there for ages, doing basically exactly what he’s doing now.

Yeah, sure, Velorum being deposed and Palpatine being elected Chancellor is a change, but it was spurred by Amidala, and like. Padme is really, REALLY obviously not a Sith Lord. Furthermore even if they made the obvious connection between Palpatine being her advisor and the vote of no-confidence…that’s not actually an evil, suspicious move. The Senate screwed their planet over and they made the logical next step. He even makes a pretty damn convincing show of being somewhat pleasantly surprised to have been in the running, deflecting suspicion.

Even more importantly, that change, his election to Chancellor? That is not the turning point for the Dark Side growing in strength. By the beginning of Phantom Menace, the Council is already wary of the darkness in the Force. Palpatine’s election happens in the middle of that development, not as a clear turning point. There is no reason to draw a causal conclusion there; in fact, doing so would be profoundly poor reasoning.

I think it’s easy to go “but he’s so OBVIOUSLY EVIL” but that’s also a…really lazy take. The fact that Palpatine is evil is obvious to us, the audience. The prequels are PREQUELS, they assume that everyone watching them has at least seen enough of the OT to know that Senator Palpatine and Emperor Palpatine are, you know, the same fucking person. So the PT doesn’t waste our time or insult our intelligence by trying to be coy. “Palpatine was a Sith the WHOLE TIME!!!!” is not a twist. Trying to make it a twist would have been obnoxious. WE know he’s evil–but whenever he interacts with normal people, if you watch it without the whiny fanboy attitude of “UGH can’t they see he’s EVIL”

Palpatine’s harmless-old-man act is really, really good. Of course it’s fake, and it’s easy to think that’s obvious because, again, we know better. But when you remember that this guy has been a public figure for decades, has never visibly done anything outside the ordinary in that time, and is behaving exactly as one would expect a normal politician to behave…no, it’s not. It’s not obvious. It wouldn’t be obvious.

So can we stop with this? I swear to god y’all have never heard of dramatic irony in your damn lives.

I can't help but hate levi///han now that levi is a dick to hange and doesn't deserve her I read this theory that questiong thing from this month means they are not even friends anymore bcoz levi doesn't feel comfortable enough to call hange by the nickame he had for her anymore and that's sad and also makes me angry because hange is always so nice to him and levi is a douche

Eh, that’s not how I see it.

IMO him dropping that nickname means 1) he legitimately respects her new position and wants to place an emphasis on that by example (humanity’s strongest soldier respecting the new commander is a big deal), and 2) he’s actively trying not to be a dick by throwing out a nickname that is NO LONGER APPROPRIATE – not just due to her rank, but, you know, the fact that she’s lost/damaged/ruined one of her eyes, now.

The situation that ruined her eye was extremely traumatic: it got her work assistant killed–not to mention all of her colleagues: people’s she’s known for years of her career. This includes Erwin, whose shoes she has to fill right away. I doubt she wants the reminder of that terrible day spat out of Levi’s mouth like it’s some kind of a funny joke when there’s very little chance of her being able to see it that way anymore. I know everyone thinks Hange would take it with a grain of salt and all that (cracking jokes galore), but she has feelings and again: the situation was very traumatic. You don’t see Levi cracking jokes about his traumatic experiences, do you?

Fandom conveniently forgets that Hange is a person who experiences human emotion because they’re desperate to keep the ship dynamic for levihan the same forever.

And look, until we got this information, I think interpreting Hange as the sort of person who wanted normalcy there to distract from the depressing and painful reality was believable and realistic.

But with this information it seems that’s not actually the case.

And that’s okay! There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s okay for your headcanons to be proven wrong on occasion.

And listen to me, here: people change. They grow, and it’s not always apart. Sometimes they grow together, especially after they’ve been through something rough. The fight in Shiganshina was a rough experience.

Hange has been through a surprising lot, though she’s barely focused on during those chapters. Almost the entire military branch she works in was wiped out. She lost countless acquaintances and friends. Now she has to lead what’s left of it…and without an eye. I wish fandom would stop laughing it off like it’s a cute “fun” injury because it looks “cool.” It was probably highly traumatic and painful for her, not just in the moment, either. The fact that it took so long for her to get treatment might have even been the real reason she lost it. The eye loss is associated with all kinds of trauma, both physical and mental. She’s a soldier, she’s accepted that something like this could happen, but that doesn’t make it easier to deal with; it doesn’t make any of her losses less painful.

So let’s talk about the responsibility that’s instantly clamped down on her shoulders after this, because Hange doesn’t even get a second to herself to just, you know, mourn or be sad. She’s the commander now. And while the SC might have sealed the wall(s), it was at a great price (and still under Erwin’s command almost entirely). Hange is going to have to fight for respect from pretty much everyone. Mission accomplished and all, but now that the walls are sealed, humanity is safe again lmao fuck the Survey Corps do we even need that branch anymore? Hange is going to have to present a case to save humanity and exterminate the titans and she’s going to need all the respect she can get to do that. She’s going to need more soldiers because <10 isn’t going to be enough. She’s going to need money and supplies and gear. I hate saying this, but it might not be something she’s capable of presenting on her own merit because she’s largely unknown by the people. (Her newspaper shenanigans help her case but only in that specific area.) However, humanity’s strongest soldier has pretty much all the respect from everyone in this world. If he has her back and is standing proudly at her side, it probably helps her case immensely. (He believes her, he believes in her, this isn’t some kind of a sick joke.)

I want to remind everyone, too, that when the newspapers start telling “the truth” of humanity’s situation, it’s like a 50/50 split? Lots of people think it’s bullshit. That doesn’t help Hange. Like I said: she needs all the respect and the backup she can get. Literally every ounce.

IMO, Levi dropping the nickname “shitty-glasses” was the best thing that could have happened to the ship. I know people think it means they’re not “equals” anymore, but everyone’s focusing on the wrong thing, here.

Up to this point in the manga we’ve seen Levi treat Hange more or less equally, but even in his attempts to comfort her he’s rough. He calls her by a rude nickname that we’re never sure is supposed to be endearing or not. For all we know, he means it in the way a coworker might call the fat guy in the group “porkchop” or other kids might be mean to a classmate by calling them “four-eyes.” Speculation and headcanons aside, canon hasn’t ever really given us a clear idea of what that nickname meant to Levi, let alone to Hange. She lets him call her it, but that doesn’t tell us much. For all we ever knew, she was used to being treated poorly by her peers.

However, with this new information, it sounds much more like the nickname “shitty-glasses” was, coming from Levi, an awkwardly endearing nickname–one he meant no harm with.

And we see that because he drops it. He goes out of his way to consciously stop a habit of his that would seem disrespectful to other people regardless of what it originally meant between them. Levi respects Hange and this is how he shows it. That’s a big deal.

I’d also like to point out, again, that it’s very likely he does this out of more than just respect for his commanding officer. Levi is hardly one to follow conventions, after all.

Hange is his friend. He cares about her safety and we’ve seen this (beneath the chapel). We’ve also seen him clumsily care about the place she’s in mentally (post-Nick’s death). I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that he cares about her feelings, too. And if this nickname drudges up emotional backlash and trauma for her, then by dropping it he’s showing that he cares about her and respects her as his friend.

HiddleHamlet: A firsthand account (part I)

Okay guys. Here goes. I’m going to try to remember and describe as much of the experience as possible, so you can all feel a little piece of it too. This is your warning… this is going to be a long post.

Disclaimer: this review is going to be very little about the play, and very lots about how mindblowingly gorgeous and excellent Tom was in the play. If you’re not in this to hear a dissertation on that man’s thighs in his tight-ass jeans, don’t read further. I love and deeply appreciate theatre (this is the 14th play I’ve seen since moving to London 10 months ago), but this is tumblr and I’m not really here to be a theatre critic or to dissect various interpretations of Shakespeare. I’m here to drool over sexy men. It’s right there in the title.

So, to get that boring, non-thigh-centred discussion out of the way first - the play was seriously great. I enjoyed it hugely, even apart from the magic of Tom’s Hamlet (and somehow in spite of the distraction that was my brain screaming “HE’S RIGHT THERE!!!” for 3 hours straight). I saw a similarly intimate staging of Hamlet back in January, which I found… overly intense. This one was much better. I especially liked the touches of humour throughout, which helped to break up the heavier moments and moved the story along in a nice rhythm, and brought out the humanity and likability of the characters. The cast were all fantastic, and the sparseness of the stage worked well - the focus was fully on the actors and the words they were saying.

We were sat in the front row, far stage left…which was basically on the stage. The theatre is teeny, with no raised stage, which meant the actors were walking by us close enough to touch. Being that close to Tom for an extended period of time was full-on exhilarating. When he’d run by us, we’d get a waft of air and could actually smell him. I didn’t get to last time, so I breathed in deep this time…and it was absolutely delicious. I’m sure we were visibly swooning after each inhale.

(I’m really sad that only a limited number of people will get to see this, and I know there’s been much discussion over the supposed “exclusivity” of this show, but I must say, in being one of the lucky ones who got to be there, that it was magical how intimate this was. It was immersive - a unique and beautiful theatre experience. I feel incredibly grateful.)

Important things must be addressed, so: couch humping. Was SO FUNNY. It wasn’t a full-on dry humping (oh god…I just had to take several minutes to think about what that would be like. I’m back now) but rather a couple of energetic thrusts. Which was enough. This was met with laughter and tons of quietly imploding vaginas, I assume.

In this same scene (a great scene), Hamlet sits on the recently-violated couch with Polonius and laughs loudly with him. It’s rather forced (he’s putting on a show here), but also - seriously adorable. Because Tom. It gifted us with a huge Hiddles grin, which is so damn infectious (as you well know). In the third bout of this laughter, Hamlet dissolves into tears. One of the best things about Tom’s Hamlet was how perfectly and naturally he navigated the quick shifts in his mood - swinging wildly between grief, rage, lunacy, amusement, earnestness - and it all felt incredibly deft and real. Also, that man is gifted when it comes to crying. I think there were real tears in his eyes for about 75% of the performance. At one point, you could see the tears falling, illuminated by the stage lights. It was beautiful. I managed to stay seated and not run to throw myself on him and cover him in kisses, which was obviously what first instinct was telling me to do.

Okay…let us talk about how good he looked. IT IS GROSS, AND MAKES NO SENSE. My brain can’t compute this level of attractiveness, and I have no appropriate words to convey it. It’s even worse in real life. And truly, this is Peak Tom, look-wise. I missed probably large sections of dialogue due to thinking about his hair (I wish this was a joke). I could not stop staring at it. The curls are entrancing. It is perfection. I will cry when he gets a haircut. THIS IS THE HAIR HE WAS BORN TO HAVE. Also, THE JEANS. Holy fucking hell. I could write a Hamlet-length soliloquy about those jeans. Maybe it was because I was on the side, so I spent a good amount of time looking at the back of him, but…I have never appreciated a view more. Those jeans were, um, very tight, and I have zero complaints. I think I could actually see his thigh muscles flexing through them. I was equally entranced by his legs and thighs throughout the whole thing. My stream of consciousness went something like this: hair-legs-thighs-jaw-eyes-voice-words-legs-ass-kill-me-now…!

Yeah… his ass in those jeans. Specifically when he was moving or jumping around a lot. I leave it to your imagination.

Overall, there is truly just something about him. We have not been imagining that. His physical presence is undeniably, overwhelmingly attractive. He’s all legs and cheekbones and curls, and the way he moves is impossible to look away from. He’s so damn FIT. His body, his face, his every movement…it’s all just sex incarnate. I can’t be eloquent about it. What the fuck do you say about this. Just. Ugh. Fuck me up.

Will you look at this? GOD.

Wardrobe stuff: I love his new peacoat. It’s really nice and looks so soft, so he looks super huggable in it. I will continue to swoon over the upturned collar look on him - it works so well with his long neck and impeccable jawline. I also like how well he rocks the hoodie-and-peacoat combo. Really, is there anything that doesn’t look good on him?! Oh, and…there was no appearance, sadly, of the beloved grey boots (those boots are like a secondary celeb spotting for us by now). He was wearing dark brown boots through the whole thing. But they looked really good too no duh, so, no big loss.

Uh-oh… this post is already very long, and I have at least 26 more things to say about all of this. I’m think I’m gonna stop here for tonight and write a part two tomorrow. Coming up: tummy peeks, dancing, leather gloves and the opinions of the lady sitting next to me on Tom’s ass in those jeans (you didn’t think I was done talking about that yet, did you?)

I died a bit when in The Bedroom Scene, Lance took a step back when Keith said he should stop worrying about who flies what and focus on his missions. Like keith my boy I know you are trying to be A Leader here but could you miss the point by another mile? don't blame him though, it isn't exactly his forte to do it.

that scene was very in character and wasn’t meant to solve all of lance’s issues right then and there (lance has been said to have a show spanning arc, after all) because keith doesn’t even KNOW the extent of said insecurities in the first place, since lance has never explained the root of them to anyone. we, as viewers, know the extent of it but no one on the team does. i feel like people forget that tbh because i’ve seen people shitting on the team, especially keith, for teasing lance and not getting the fact that he deals with a lot of self-worth issues. but the thing is, i’ve been over this in previous posts but… they don’t know their teasing is affecting him because of that confident exterior he puts up. they don’t know about his self-worth issues because he talks himself up all the time when he’s around people. friends tease each other and that is common knowledge, they are not doing it to be malicious. you can tell for them, it’s all in good fun. we know everyone cares about lance, values him and trusts his abilities and even though lance most likely knows they aren’t teasing him to intentionally hurt his feelings, it definitely still gets to him… which is why he really really needs to actually talk about this in depth with someone.

we can’t blame the team for not picking up on it because lance masks it extremely well and we can’t blame keith for not realizing the deeper meaning behind the whole conversation lance had with him in his room. as i’ve already talked about in previous responses and as we all already know, keith is a loner and is shown to not be good at social interaction, comforting people or picking up on things. basically, he’s not that good with stuff that involves other people, in general, because of his lone wolf nature, his past and how closed off he usually is. like you said, it isn’t his forte. so, of course, keith misunderstood… of course he didn’t pick up on it… first, because lance hasn’t really let his insecurities show until now, but even in this scene… lance doesn’t explicitly explain why exactly he’s feeling this way. lance knows keith is not good at this stuff because lance, himself, is good at this stuff… because it has been made a point in the show to show us how lance is very helpful to keith when he doesn’t understand things. lance knows keith did not get the point and that is why he did walk away from this interaction feeling a bit better than he did beforehand. he knows that, even though it was poorly executed, keith was trying to reassure him. he knows he was trying to cheer him up when he said “and lance, leave the math to pidge” and that is why he genuinely smiled back at him.

this scene played out EXACTLY how it should have given how these two are individually, and how their relationship is, at this point in the show. it would have been out of character for lance to voice the full extent and reasons behind his insecurities right away, i think… since lance does seem to try very hard to keep up his confident, happy-go-lucky exterior around others. the progress he has made with starting to somewhat talk about it is realistic and in character. it would have been extremely out of character for keith to be able to pick up on the deeper reason behind lance being worried about being left out… and it would have been extremely out of character if he was able to comfort lance better and reassure him better with words alone, because at this point… keith still isn’t that good at this, especially with words, but he tried and it helped a bit. he then proceeded to give up piloting red after saying “shiro” could pilot black just so lance didn’t have to be left out and not have a lion. those two scenes are obviously meant to tie in with each other. keith took what lance came to him about to heart and that is a big and important step for keith and his character. it didn’t end up mattering because “shiro” was denied by black, but still. we were able to see that keith was trying to make sure that lance’s worries were not realized.

some people are saying that keith unintentionally made lance’s insecurities worse and lance left his room feeling worse than before… but i don’t think that’s the case… because like i said, lance KNOWS that keith isn’t good at this stuff and he KNOWS he was trying his best. this didn’t resolve his insecurities, but it didn’t make them worse either. they’re going to get worse because lance keeps bottling them up, not because of this interaction. lance left keith’s room genuinely feeling at least a little better, the smile on his face was genuine. the new light in which lance was viewing keith was genuine and special. this interaction opens the way for them to have a BETTER, more personal interaction like this in the future. it’s a stepping stone on the path to them opening up to each other more, understanding each other better with lance actually explaining his insecurities in full to keith. once keith actually understands, he will be able to help more because he knows that lance is very skilled. keith knows lance is important and brings something to the team that no one else does. not to mention, lance is now the next person after shiro… that hasn’t given up on keith. he has stuck by his side and had his back basically all of season 3 and that is undeniably very important to keith. lance has become very important to him. keith even opened up and acknowledged his mistakes with lance. he never does that. he was extremely vulnerable in that situation and he sounded absolutely wrecked… that whole scene was just… very symbolic, beautiful and intimate. lance was able to bring him back up and get him back on track. i know lance has become extremely dear to keith, someone he now relies on and looks to in times of need. so, once he actually knows about the core of lance’s insecurities… i am certain he’s going to be there for him and reassure him about his importance on the team the best he can.

Do you know any fics with slytherin!harry. Preferably in the long range?

I have a few! I am very picky about my Slytherin!Harry, because I don’t like him to be OOC (sooo no Harry supporting Voldemort or anything like that) and I find that a lot of Slytherin!Harry fics make him into an entirely new character. I thought the following ones were very well done though!

Slytherin!Harry Recs

Leo Inter Serpentes by Aeternum (658K combined so far)- Just one conversation between two eleven year old boys goes slightly differently, and the world changes. Just how much will be different with Harry being sorted into Slytherin, and how much will stay the same?
My favorite Slytherin!Harry fic! It’s a canon re-write starting from book one, but enough things change that it stayed exciting throughout! Also Harry has a pet snake! And Snape becomes his mentor!! ALL THE GOOD THINGS!!! You should be warned that it’s a WIP. But the author is currently actively posting the 6th book, and I have hope it won’t be abandoned :)

Written on the Heart by who_la_hoop (114K)- Harry doesn’t mind that so many Slytherins from his year have returned to finish their NEWTs, really he doesn’t. It’s just – do they have to be so friendly? He’s not prejudiced, really he’s not. It’s just – they’ve got to be up to something, right? Unnerved by the attention he’s attracting from everyone – the Slytherins are the least of it, to be fair – and struggling with a raft of changes to Hogwarts itself, Harry wishes he could be happy that one constant remains: Draco Malfoy really fucking hates him. When he’s hit by an illegal love-spell though, Harry finds he has more to worry about than whether or not Blaise Zabini actually wants to be his friend. For if everyone affected has been blessed – or cursed, by the look on Malfoy’s face – with a magical tattoo revealing the name of their soulmate, what does it mean that Harry’s skin remains completely bare?
kfhdsjrg3hi SOUL MARKS!!! c;mbxneiu EIGHTH YEAR!!! rewuy, obsk AMAZING AUTHOR!!! Harry is forced to move to Slytherin!!!! Need I say more? Seriously, this fic is amazing. Harry doesn’t act super Slytherin, but he has to live there, so it counts, right?!

Malfoy Flavor by Vorabiza (199K)- Harry’s ready to banish the Golden Boy image and take charge of his life. Unfortunately for him, or fortunately, there are surprises in store for him.
Okay so this one might be a tiiiiiiiny bit ooc, but I LOVE VORABIZA’S STUFF and it’s so fun to read that in this case I don’t even care. Harry disguises himself as Dustin Snape (okay I know I also had to get over the fact that this is a horrible name) and “transfers” into Hogwarts and is a total badass and just READ IT.

Other People’s Choices by Lomonaaeren (82.5K so far)- AU. The Sorting Hat doesn’t just let the Sword go when it falls on Harry’s head in the Chamber, but also Sorts him again, this time into Slytherin. Harry is furious and terrified, and the adults aren’t helping much.
WIP. And I haven’t read it yet!!! But it looks amazing and Lomon is always amazing, so I am very excited for it to be finished. Also, if you are just looking for a Slytherin-esque (adult) Harry or Dark!Harry or Grey!Harry, she has written a ton of that in other completed fics!

Progressive Displacement by GatewayGirl (21K)- Harry didn’t mean the wish that way. From his point of view, it hadn’t even worked.
Another one I haven’t read! I just discovered it right this very moment while poking around to make this list, but it looks really good! I think Harry wakes up in several alternate realities, and he’s a different Slytherin!Harry each time. All I know for sure is that it starts with Harry taking Draco from Azkaban, and I love that <3

Cunning and Ambition by MinaAndChao (372K)- “The weak in courage is the strong in cunning” -William Blake. One small gesture and one simple sentence change lives, and through it, history. A Slytherin!Harry AU. Abandoned in the sixth book.
This series is a pretty straight-forward Slytherin!Harry re-write, and it stays pretty similar to canon. It was abandoned in Book Six.

Also someday (hopefully!!) you will be able to read my WIP, Test of Time! Harry and Draco both go back in time to just before first year, and Harry ends up being sorted Slytherin this time around. There will be Slytherin politics and Draco teaching Harry how to be more Slytherin (among many other things; this is just a side-plot), and it will diverge almost entirely from canon :D

Most original Dramione stories you've ever read. I'm talking the ones with a unique premise or twist you didn't see coming. Something that isn't usual in this fandom. Can be dark, fluffy, romantic. Whatever. I just want to read something that is like, WOW THAT'S DIFFERENT!

Well, here are some I can think of off the top of my head. I’m only posting the stories that are completed, not the WIPs (there are SO MANY good WIPs out there!):

Edit: If I may, I thought this was very unique, IT MAY SCAR YOU FOR LIFE but it is good:

Fragments by Jane - M, 50 Chapters - “Last night, she told me about you. I know how you met, how you hated, how you loved.”

- Lisa

Yo, can we normalize being wrong about your experiences and being open about making mistakes in this community? Pretty much everyone has been Completely Sure Something Is A Thing and then later on realized…… that they were wrong about it, in some form or another.

Someone going all-out into exploring a potential identity to see how it feels before saying whether or not they think it’s likely (or even feeling like it’s likely and diving straight into acknowledging it as A Thing) is only ever a problem if people refuse to go back on their labels and admit they made a mistake.

It’s not that uncommon to confuse a kintype for a soulbond/headmate or a hearttype or vice versa or any combination of these. Personal narratives can affect perception of identity and can cause people to internalize or externalize things like this a lot.

I thought I was Sora for years. I told so many people that I was him, it wasn’t a secret or anything. Then I realized he was actually a soulbond and we had gotten mixed up with each other (and I had some huge misunderstandings of how this stuff worked for awhile due to my ex) and it was scary to finally say “hey, so I was actually wrong about this” because of the pervasiveness of feeling like you need to know 100% about yourself before you say anything, and if you realize otherwise you were “just making it up”.

Mistakes happen. They’re normal. Thinking you’re one thing when you’re actually another thing is completely normal. You’re not betraying anyone if you realize you made a mistake. What isn’t okay and normal is refusing to acknowledge the possibility that you could be wrong about who you are. It’s scary, I know, but it’s really important.

It’s a lot better to really look at yourself and be open to change and accepting responsibility than it is to desperately cling to labels and false identities that don’t suit you. This is’t a contest, otherkind/fictionkind/therian identities don’t grant you access to some “exclusive club”, and they’re definitely not somehow more real or legitimate or better than things like otherheartedness, plurality, etc. or just being human that relates heavily to “weird” experiences.

Being yourself, without trying to force yourself into an experience you don’t fit, is more important than the labels or titles you come across. Learning to express what you really feel without fancy buzzwords or fear of backlash due to an honest admission of realizing you thought you were something else.

If everyone’s so hung up on who uses what words to describe themselves and who fits what terminology, why not focus on experiences and existences instead? Let people make mistakes. Let people know it’s okay if they’ve grown and changed and used to think some pretty stupid things. I bet you most of us thought p-shifting was possible at some point. I know I did.

So let’s kill this culture of belittling people for being wrong about themselves and making newbie (or not-so-newbie) mistakes. We were all new to this at one point. We all had mishaps and confusion. So let’s remember that, and be honest and open about it, okay?

I saw that you opened requests in a recent post so here's mine. If it isn't then feel free to ignore it. RFA+Saeran react to an MC who lost her glasses and can't see anything because she's as blind as a bat? Love your recent headcannons and keep up the good work!

Thanks! Enjoy these~

  • You woke up and couldn’t find them anywhere
  • But you didn’t have work that day so you didn’t think it much of a big deal
  • Neither did Zen before you tried fixing the side of his coat with a sharp tug…only to realize that it was his ponytail
  • But then he just tells you that he’ll be your eyes until you find your glasses
  • It’s fine for the simpler things
  • Then you two are getting ready to go out and you’re putting on your make up
  • Your lip liner and eyeliner sticks looked very similar, and the labels were faded
  • In your rush, you ask if one of them was your lip liner
  • He’s getting ready too, so he just glances and nods
  • Next thing you know, you have a streak of black on the edge of your lip
  • He just thinks it’s better to find your glasses at that point

  • You woke up to Yoosung already gone for work and your glasses missing
  • It was going to be a long day, but you decided just to continue with your plans
  • You wanted to cook Yoosung a meal before he got home, so you found the recipe and carefully prepped so the ingredients were right
  • But that didn’t help your depth perception and aim
  • Before you could even finish, you had a lot of burn marks, small cuts, and a lot of ingredients that missed the pot
  • You got frustrated so you went to find your back-up pair
  • Not only were they the wrong prescription, but they also somehow broke right down the middle
  • You ended up looking for your regular pair through one lens that you were holding to your face
  • Yoosung comes home to find the couch cushions flipped up and furniture moved everywhere
  • “Is it blanket fort night?”
  • He also gets a small laugh when you look at him through your makeshift monocle
  • He starts laughing harder because he’s the one who put them away last night
  • “I thought you would go crazy looking for them, so I put them in the drawer last night,” he says before looking around at the mess. “I guess that didn’t help, huh?”

  • You couldn’t find your glasses and the cafe opened in less than an hour
  • So you insisted that you could just work without them
  • Jaehee didn’t know how blind you actually were so she let you do it
  • But she started to see when you almost put salt in coffee instead of sugar because you couldn’t read the labels
  • She was running after you all day trying to make sure you didn’t hurt yourself or mix something up
  • Eventually, she just told you to take orders and she’d make them
  • It was great until an equally as blind customer showed up
  • “Can you tell me what’s after the latte?”
  • You squint at the menu, “Uhh….yeah, can’t help you there.”
  • It’s a long day, but you come home without any huge disasters
  • You reach for the cereal box on top of the fridge…and find your glasses neatly folded on top
  • Jaehee is calm for a second before she starts yelling at you
  • “Why are they on the fridge?!”

  • Your glasses weren’t in the place where you usually put them
  • Which was bad considering you and Jumin had a fancy dinner to go to with some important people
  • And you couldn’t exactly get ready or survive the night without them
  • This leads you both into a frenzy as you search the entire penthouse
  • When the maid stops in, Jumin ends up recruiting her too to help find them
  • Both of your nerves are really strung high
  • After a few hours, you just decide to use your emergency ones
  • Which lasts you for the next day…until they disappear again
  • You have one last pair of emergency ones, but even those disappear within the week
  • You and Jumin are very confused and actually worried about someone stealing them
  • Until one day he goes over to pet a purring Elizabeth, and he finds her cuddled up to all three pairs of your glasses
  • You have to start putting your glasses in a place she can’t reach after that

  • You were taking a nap on the couch and you fell asleep
  • Seven passed by and took off your glasses so you wouldn’t crush them in your awkward position
  • But he was feeling a bit mischievous so he went and hid them
  • He even sets up little traps around the floor that you might trip over–nothing dangerous though
  • When you wake up and look for them, he acts super innocent and even pretends to look with you
  • He’s trying to hold back laughter every time you fall into one of the traps
  • Eventually, he brings them out pretending to find them
  • He holds them out of your reach and tells you that you have to pay him with a kiss if you want them back
  • He forgets that you’re still partially blind and your depth perception is off
  • You end up ramming your head into his nose while trying to reach for the glasses and give him a peck
  • You felt bad until you found out it was his fault in the first place

  • You were constantly losing your glasses, and Saeran was constantly helping you look for them
  • So this time, you didn’t want to tell him that you misplaced them
  • You told him you were wearing contacts for the day
  • He started having his suspicions when you kept ramming your knee on the same corner table
  • You two were watching some foreign cooking show and he looked away for a sec
  • “Hey, what did the subtitles say? I didn’t catch that.”
  • You sweat nervously having blanked out yourself, “Uh…they’re making something with flies.”
  • Turns out it was pies, but you can’t really see the “P”
  • It’s at this point that he figures it out
  • Now that the secret it out, you go look for them
  • After a lot of blind patting around, you beg Saeran to help you
  • He doesn’t move from his place on the couch, getting tired of you losing them so often
  • When he spots them, he just gives you a vague description where they are
  • You keep going to the wrong spot though, and you’re getting more irritated
  • He’s really lucky you can’t see the smirk on his face

Mary is the best mother figure they could wish for

Hear me out.

Mary, by her absence, through her choices and ultimately NOT being what the brothers ever hoped she would be is leading them to some deep inner questioning, which is what they both need to move forwards if not what they want.

In the end this is exactly why Amara / TBTB brought her back, because as we head into the endgame era there are things that need addressing that only be addressed from within. With Dean ‘sublimation’ Winchester and Sam ‘repression’ Winchester it would take something BIG to force them to do this. And it doesn’t come much bigger than their mom, narratively, in the show.

DEAN ‘sublimation’ WINCHESTER

Dean’s inner demons centre around self acceptance. I have written a whole other post about Dean’s self worth here but basically Mary and Cas are key to this for him moving forwards (and are mirrors of each other this season).

A key indicator of his self acceptance is the break down of performing!Dean which we are seeing so much of in s12. We have not just a whole episode dedicated to slapping us in the face with the fact that this exists (for those who don’t do subtext) in 12x11 but they even TELL US OPENLY that sublimation ‘is kinda his thing’, on top of so many snippets where he is letting his true feelings show. OK, so its now CANON that performing!Dean exists. Why? To tear it down.

And what was a huge factor in performing!Dean? His emulation of John. So having Mary around is definitely going to have a huge impact on this story.

1. Mary has already forced Dean to really think about how he feels towards her and how hurt he is by her actions. You can practically see the inner dialogue in his eyes at some points in s12.

He’s standing up for himself, calling her out, practically saying out loud that he thinks he DESERVES BETTER!

And yes, he did ‘apologise’ to her at the end of 12x14 but really he’s not vindicating her actions but acknowledging that he didn’t put her in the right ‘box’ in his view of family. She had to call him out on it for him look within himself to figure this out.

2. Cas has been a key component of Dean’s overall arc since his FIRST SCENE OF THE SHOW (and arguably was planned to be a key component since the pilot once he took over Anna’s planned role).

“Good things do happen, Dean…. What’s the matter? YOU DON’T THINK YOU DESERVE TO BE SAVED?”

I mean, since their FIRST MEETING Cas has been validating Dean. He understood Dean’s lack of self worth within 2 minutes. I can’t WAIT for this to be bookended and I would love it if they paralleled it properly, something like Dean asking CAS “you don’t think you deserve to be loved?”.

*OK I’ve stopped sobbing now, moving on*

So Cas is key to Dean’s self acceptance and also eventual Destiel in the obvious way through his sexuality. Even if you don’t ship them or believe Dean is queer just allowing himself to be loved in the platonic way as family by someone who CHOOSES to (as per 12x12) is incredibly important to Dean’s self worth, especially when linked to Cas’s own overall arc of ‘falling for humanity’ because it’s DEAN who made him rebel, avert the apocalypse and choose humanity.

I love how Crowley often gets my Dean-feels going (often his lines really hit a spot for me in terms of Dean’s inner dialogue) and his famous I deserve to be loved’ moment really hits home for me. Dean should and WILL I am sure at some point either say this specifically or have it said to him. I wonder by who…

Mary and Cas are both key to Dean’s self acceptance arc. Currently not only is Mary a s6 Cas mirror but they are incredibly interlinked and probably will be even more so when the supernatural / BMOL / Mary story comes to a head.

Sam’s inner demons centre around self forgiveness. He still struggles with feeling like a monster (even though he knows he shouldn’t), he has tried to be cleaner than clean, whiter than white to cleanse himself (e.g. with food), and it’s especially clear this season that he is holding back from other people, often hiding behind Dean (eg. phone calls etc).

Sam’s self forgiveness can also be split into 2 overriding narratives.

1. Accepting and forgiving the grey areas of the supernatural and specifically the supernatural within himself (e.g. past psychic abilities, demon blood).

Mary has already twice narratively shifted the blame for Sam’s demon arc onto herself away from Sam:

12x2: “how can I face Sam after what I did to him”.

12x12: *flashback to YED Ramiel*, Sam: “what have you gotten us into?!”.

2. Forgiving himself enough to work with other people again and see himself as a leader.

Mary and the BMOL are key to this. Sam is a MOL and Dean is a Hunter, thats always been the narrative since s8. A happy place for Sam is running the MOL, a new, moral type of MOL with a dog, a girl, maybe even kids and trusted people all around… eating a hearty meal instead of a salad…

I just reread your post abt the BoM trials, w the difference between HoloShiro and Real Shiro, and it made me think of how that experience could help Keith comfirm that Kuron isn't Shiro. Kuron is like HoloShiro in that he's very commanding and ignores Keith's wants & input, and seems to view Keith following his instincts as flaws. I don't mean he's a bad guy, just that he's not Shiro, and harsher. I can see him ordering Keith to do something that confirms he's not the real Shiro to Keith.

oh ya you make a really good point! I’ve seen lots of other people compare some scenes with Holo Shiro and Kuron and it’s something that’s been on my mind too lately. Kuron definitely tries to command the team despite Keith being leader, and this turns the whole team against him. Everyone sides with “Shiro,” and Keith is left to grumble and go along with it while fuming all the while. So yes, both Kuron and the hologram were completely dismissive of Keith’s instincts and didn’t trust him to take control of the situation the way Shiro would. A good example of this is when Keith wants to shut down Zarkon’s base and says “No one’s commanding me,” which immediately prompts Shiro to agree.

Of course, part of what made Blade of Marmora so painful is that Keith trusts and loves Shiro implicitly. But at the same time, he’s not entirely sure if Shiro really feels the same about him. During the trial, Holo-Shiro is uncharacteristically antagonistic, tearing Keith down at every change he gets. He tries to force Keith to sacrifice his very identity, to cut away the parts of himself that don’t fit in with his ideal image. Keith doesn’t ever question Shiro either; he doesn’t object when he’s called selfish, when he’s accused of not valuing the team. The “as usual” Shiro tacks on the end of his statement also implies that Keith has felt guilty for this a lot

He believes he regularly fails to be a selfless and noble member of the team, instead putting himself first. We of course know that this is completely unfounded; when it comes to making the ultimate sacrifice, Keith is the only one willing to quite literally volunteer for a suicide mission. He fights Zarkon one-on-one. He goes hurtling headlong into danger time and again to save Shiro.

And Shiro has been nothing but supportive and compassionate with Keith in turn, so why would Keith expect him to suddenly voice his worst fears? Josh has said that “[Keith’s] always scared he’s gonna say or do something wrong and he’s gonna lose Shiro.” That’s a pretty heavy statement. We’re talking about someone who genuinely believes one wrong move could cost them their deepest and most intimate relationship. Keith’s abandonment issues are so ingrained that he honestly thinks any day Shiro could turn around and leave him. So honestly, I think seeing Kuron as “fake” would be a lot harder simply because it’s not Keith’s mind that made him–it’s Shiro’s

Kuron is Shiro’s memories and feelings, his desires and fears. Kuron doesn’t yell at Keith like Holo-Shiro, and he doesn’t storm off and leave him alone. No, quite the opposite. He seeks out Keith and he’s the one who reaches for him, tries to comfort him. In the moment, he may have been harsh, yes. But afterwards? He finds Keith and has a talk with him, let’s him know how proud he is and how much faith he has in him. He cares for Keith enough to offer reassurance. This isn’t the hologram who immediately turns on Keith as soon as he doesn’t get his way. Kuron tries to be compassionate. Understanding. He gives Keith the same little tactile physical assurances we often see from Shiro. He imparts what he no doubt believes to be helpful advice. He wants to encourage Keith and see him grow as a leader.

Anyway you’re right, Kuron is distinctly different from Shiro, and it’s very possible that continually being at odds with one another in combat situations will eventually tip him off. However, Kuron is also very unlike Holo-Shiro, and I think that alone makes things a lot harder. Because this isn’t a mirage of Shiro fabricated from Keith’s own dreams and insecurities, it’s Shiro’s emotions and Shiro’s perceptions. And just like Shiro, going by his memories and behavior, I think he really does love Keith and the rest of the team. That alone is going to make everything a lot more complicated

OMG!!!! ok ok I want to request the rfa+the trio going to an abandoned house and mc exploring like a boss while they are nervous and wondering how she isn't scared. omg I'm so pumped for Halloween

A/N: its 10pm and after halloween of course i can post a request no one can judge me
Alright, so this is more their individual reactions to mc, i hope this is okay;;

Was he more afraid of the paranormal or was he more afraid of getting in trouble for being on private property? Seeing you walk around like it was nothing was… also terrifying. But also really concerning- he wanted to be the one who wasn’t scared! So he could protect you, like in the movies! In all honesty, you take off into a room, wait for him to walk by, calling for you, and pop out- he runs. Straight out of the house. Also doesn’t forgive you for days afterwards

“If anything jumps out, I’ll punch ‘em for you babe,” he says. What does he do? Death grip on your hip the whole time, until you take off. He’s calling out for you, trying to find where you went. He’s fine with this adventure, he’s explored abandoned buildings before with his previous motorcycle friends, so he isn’t afraid of getting caught…. he’s afraid of something paranormal because then he can’t protect you from things he can’t punch. MC please just come back

Refuses to go in there with you, that is against the law to trespass. But.. what if.. what if there are scary people in there. Nevermind, she’s coming with you. You keep asking her if she feels that breeze, or if she saw those leaves move, but you keep forgetting it’s autumn and there’s wind. Isn’t scared at all, but is uncomfortable at the fact you two are on someone else’s property uninvited, this is the ~spiciest~ thing she’s done in a while, what an adrenaline rush

Doesn’t see the point in it at all because? It’s some run down building. What if the structure is unsteady, what if something breaks and you get hurt? Who the hell is he supposed to sue? Says he’s not afraid, and he really isn’t. You’re looking around, trying to find some sort of ‘ghost’. Aren’t ghosts only supposed to come out at night? Or is that only in the movies? He doesn’t know, he doesn’t believe in them anyway. He’s just going to follow you around, taking pictures of how determined you are. They’re all blurry. You tell him it’s because of the ghost- he doesn’t believe you, though he does get a new phone the next day, just in case

“Dare me to go into this house? Too late I’m already in,” he said. He’s in there, pretending the app on his phone works for this. You think it’s funny and play along, who knows, maybe the app really does work- you never know with him. Quickly becomes a game of who can scare who, and due to your climbing skills and the help of a fallen beam in the structure, you’re the victor when you drop down in front of him and scream. And whose high pitched scream is that? Oh, not yours. It’s his. As he runs out of the building. He’ll tell you for days that he wasn’t scared, he was just playing along but you /know/.

MC we really should not be here and we really should not look for ghosts. He isn’t a full believer but he’s seen enough late night documentaries, spooky stories on the internet, and weird… unexplainable things to be terrified that /something/ is there. You move quickly, quietly, and like you’ve…. done this before. MC what if something is here? What if /someone/ is here. Would you get in trouble?? Would you get.. ghost… kidnapped? Clings to you the whole time, but tries to play it off like he just wants to be near you because he loves you.

He’s boosting you over the fence. Breaking in, HELL YEAH. Abandoned building, DOUBLE HELL YEAH. The edgelord in his is crying from joy. But when he finds out you want to look for ghosts he is… less excited. He thought the two of you were just going to explore and have a nice little adventure together, be 'cool kids’ and just fuck around, maybe throw some rocks and things- ya know, like you have a problem with authority. But nope, nevermind, it’s about ghosts. He isn’t impressed, in fact, he’s doing things to mess with you. You’re the one who’s a little afraid by the end of it all because this asshole’s been throwing things, blowing on your ear, hanging from the ceiling to touch your hair, the works.

Bitches listen, he is a good boy he will not trespass.

I couldn’t even tell you that with a straight face- but he could, he’s a very good actor. Acted like he was completely against going into this house and that he was going to ditch you if the two of you get caught. Which he would. But he’d come back to bust you out of trouble, of course. But you seemed fearless? Like, this house was spooky and gave him bad vibes- more than Saeyoung’s house- and you’re just.. creeping around corners, asking ghosts if they were there. He couldn’t help but laugh at the fact you thought you were going to get an answer. When a rock flew in his direction, though, he took off. Threw you over his shoulder, and out in a complete flash.

anonymous asked:

Okay I just saw that post you reblogged about how Americans have privilege everywhere they go just because they are American, and while this is true, it really only holds true for white Americans. This seems to make the assumption that all Americans stand the same, Where that just isn't reality. Like someone stated in the reblogs, can you really say that the Native Americans here who have been oppressed for hundreds of years, who live in poverty today because of this, have privilege?

(Cont.)can you say the same for the black people brought here in chains that face the effects of racism every day? Those who are beaten threatened, killed, because of their skin. Can you say they have privilege? Sure in other parts of the world being an American is something that gives you an advantage (and I agree. This is true for /white/ Americans) but racism is something that exists in many parts of the world and is hard to escape, so I think that undermines much of the so called privilege

Like I understand the point, but it’s just not realistic and you can’t apply generalizations like that to all the people in such a diverse country.

Um, when I said Americans, it meant anyone born and raised in the United States of America. Sorry you guys have such massive problems with each other but anyone who was born and raised in a country is from that country, no matter what their ethnic origins are.

what youre not realising is that: if you’re American = you possess automatic coolness almost everywhere else in the world. A good European example is Tia Taylor (an American) on Youtube who tells her African American fans that since she’s treated so well in Italy, they shouldn’t worry about coming over and beign treated badly because of their race: they wouldn’t have to, they’re American. But on the other hand black Italians have a harder time of life in Italy. You couldn’t tell who was from where if you stood them side by side, apart from maybe how they dress/what they own, why they’re here and where they live, which are usually more than not factors indicated by wealth and cultural background. Large and by, African Americans coming over from America are reporting that they’re treated much better here than they were in their own country, while European black people continue to suffer racism etc. That’s American privilege already, right there.

Secondly while we’re at it, African American/Native American votes and passports (as well as white Americans of course, since they vote too) are the most powerful in the world. The US elections are given priority coverage in Europe* and whoever the American public votes for will affect the whole world. you know sometimes you guys vote like that really isn’t the case. America has its finger in every pie politically and militarily. And being from that superpower? That’s called privilege.

So in conclusion, I can so generalise. An American can go abroad and talk over a Moldovan, a Bangladeshi, probably a Brit at this point too at the world table, no matter what their race. Racism exists everywhere; it’s not that that makes you special, it’s your wealth. Your internal affairs are none of our business, but apparently our internal affairs are yours, so excuse me if I remain skeptical of your denial of your own power.

*yeah I mention Europe a lot, because W Europe is where I live.

||Part of this really happened, though I improvised a bit.||
  • Person who has only seen Durarara!! Anime and admits to being too lazy to read novels: Why would anybody like this guy? *posts gif where Izaya is saying*"People are my playthings."
  • Me: There are reasons I like Izaya: For one, he's intelligent, charming, cunning, has class, cares for and values his friendship with Shinra in his own way even though he has trouble with empathy(something I relate to), and despite everything, he's just a human even though he's able to bring down an entire organization like Amphisbaena. Not to mention I'm pretty sure he's jealous of practically everybody he comes into contact with. Shizuo, Mikado, Shinra, even Celty.
  • Me: He punches a telephone pole upon realizing he'd be betraying his only friend by normal human standards.
  • Me: And he was neglected by his parents emotionally. That's a very typical cause of personality disorders, just so you know. It's not entirely his fault that he is the way he is. Just saying. But I enjoyed watching him outsmart Amphisbaena. And I really like reading the novels for his philosophical views. Plus, he's kind of agnostic and fears death more than anything, something I can relate to.
  • Me: Haha his hand was literally swollen up because of slamming it into the telephone pole. But you know what happened when his sisters expressed concern for his hand?
  • This-
  • Mairu tilted her head and asked as she saw his right hand, “What happened, Iza-nii? Your right hand looks swollen.”
  • “...Health (Are you alright)?” Kururi looked at him with worried eyes.
  • Izaya stroked her head with his left hand and lied with a sigh, “Yeah, I got this when I was running away from Shizu-chan.”
  • “So you deserved it after all—”
  • “Keep yourselves away from muscle idiots like that one. Or you could die, you know.”
  • The siblings continued their conversation as they disappeared into the city night. The city, which took in everything it was offered, absorbed their talk into its nightly cacophony as it did any chit-chat within any normal family.
  • -
  • That was from the ninth Durarara!! Light novel.
  • But what was even sadder was the scene before that -
  • The twins flanked Izaya as he began walking, a bitter smile on his face. Mairu, who was on Izaya’s right, raised her face to look at him and said in a natural tone, “Say, Iza-nii. We know that you probably don’t treat us any differently as you treat other people, but keep in mind that we still think of you as family, OK?”
  • “All of a sudden you’re saying things that would actually make me happy. What happened?” Izaya felt that the line didn’t sound like Mairu, who usually told him to “Die!” and highkicked him when she saw him. He glanced at his sisters’ faces—and saw that they were smiling innocently back at him as they continued.
  • “So, if you get killed by Shizuo-san, Iza-nii, we’ll make sure to cry a little bit for you before we laugh about it.”
  • “Small (Just a little)...”
  • “...I was a fool to expect any family love from you.”
  • Izaya chuckled and walked faster.
  • - Also from LN 9, I have no clue why it wasn't in the novels. It really should have been. Especially the scene where he actually punched the telephone pole. But another reason I like Izaya is because not only is Izaya changing, but Narita himself said, "I have a feeling there was a scene where he cried, but he didn't let the readers see."
  • Somebody else: There are many reasons that make me like Izaya Orihara, like his fascinating personality, but that doesn't mean I think of him as a good man ¯\_(ツ)_/ ¯ I love it anyway
  • Person who has only seen the Durarara!! anime:
  • *throws in lame ass argument about what 'bad' things Izaya has done, without arguing, even though the argument could go both ways, considering he did take down Amphisbaena, and took Jinnai Yodogiri's corporation, giving Kasane Kujiragi back her freedom.*
  • Me: He's neither good nor bad. Most people can't be classified as either. We're all selfish in our own ways, and have a dark nature down deep that makes us want to test people at points. But without proper nurturing that can become harmful by nature, and it can consume us.
  • Somebody else number 2: The funny thing is that most people fail to recognize that they are of equal good/bad scale to Izaya without realizing it. It's only because Izaya is presented as an antagonist going against the common societal view that he is seen as a villain. Anyone that stands out against what is accepted is seen as bad because that is what we are taught at a young age to believe.
  • So saying that you hate Izaya because he is evil or bad is playing into those accepted, ingrained, and common beliefs.
  • Person who has only seen Durarara!! anime:
  • I don't have to like Izaya. I don't agree with you, and I don't want to argue about this. Izaya is pretty terrible. He started a whole war for fun, and told a girl to commit suicide. Any Shinra was just assuming when he said that Izaya has a fragile heart. Shinra is just some underground doctor(me: that doesn't know what he's talking about)?
  • Me: You don't have to like him, but you can't just deny canon. First off, he didn't want to start the war entirely for fun. He's an atheist/agnostic, and is terrified of death more than anything. The novels outright called Shinra, "his friend, the first person to see through Izaya to his true nature.". And Shinra described Izaya's 'true nature' as being more human and his heart more fragile than anybody else. Nextly, Shinra isn't 'just' some ignorant doctor. He has the potential to be the most manipulative character on the show if he really wanted to, and he's not ignorant. He's actually fairly insightful and observant, even when others aren't even though he ignores them because he only cares about Celty. Even Tom seemed weary of Shinra, implied by the novels.
  • Somebody else 4: Whether you like Izaya or not doesn't matter, because it's not just interpretation, it's canon, so in other words, you're just ignoring facts to justify your hatred for him.
  • Person who has only seen Durarara!! anime:
  • I mean he could made different choices and it could have turned out better.
  • Person who has only seen Durarara!! anime: I think Izaya's the worst one because he started the war.
  • Me: The same could be said for pretty much every single one of the characters, who all have done some pretty bad things, and crossed over things Izaya never would. *points out Shizuo's non justification for his hair trigger and how if it weren't for Simon, Shizuo could have killed somebody. Points out Ran's joking about raping both Saki and Mikage, as well as his abuse towards his brother, not to mention what he did and threatened to Saki(though he is jealous of the love Aoba receives from his parents, and the natural leader role Kyouhei has), points out Anri's hypocrisy in siding with Saika just because she saved her, points out Masaomi's cowardice(even though he has his really good moments), points out how Izaya saved Saki and multiple other girls from abusive situations, and especially Kuon's sister's experience with Izaya and how they can't properly seem to live without Izaya, points out the fact that, in reality, Mikado stabbed Aoba because he wanted to fulfill his ego, as well as the fact that he shot off a gun and caused a spark in the Awakusu-kai, points out some of the things Namie and Seiji did, not to mention Shinra's manipulative nature. Above all, points out all the trouble Nasujima caused and the terrible things he did(to Haruna and her family especially), as well as Jinnai Yadogiri sending Vorona(serial killer for fun at first, likely because of neglect) and Sloan to kidnap a child and do who knows what with her, considering all that Jinnai did to Ruri(also serial killer, but less for fun and more for revenge to get back at those who killed her parents)(not to mention Jinnai doing experimentation on her), though killing still starts to consume her because she feels freedom by doing so), Adabashi beating Shinra to a bloody pulp(though not apparently as bad as Shizuo has supposedly done to Shinra in the past, according to Shinra himself)(after which Izaya had Izumii break Adabashi's leg broke and kept him in his apartment for three days until he managed to escape.)* I'm not going to even go into Shizuo beating up a guy for simply questioning the purpose of life and telling him to go die, or the things Vorona, Shinra, Walker, Erika, Aoba, Rokujo, even Celty,(probably)Simon, and many others have done. Because every character has flaws and weaknesses that make them human. Minus Takashi and Jinnai Yadogiri, everybody has a least one person they have an attachment to of some sort and can feel a little closer to than others, even if they won't admit it, mostly everybody has unhealthy obsessions, Izaya nonetheless. But most everybody is changing, Izaya has even took the huge step of NOT calling Shizuo a monster, and instead admitting that Shizuo is just a man that distanced himself from humans. If that alone is not an improvement for him, I don't know what is.
  • Person who has only seen the Durarara!! anime: *obviously didn't read much of anything* Eh, Izaya's not good, and I just can't find it in myself to like him. If he were a real person, I might sympathize with him a little bit, because he could find help, but he's just a character, and there's no real justification for why he is the way he is.
  • Other person who has only seen the Durarara!! anime:
  • The anime is made for you to interpret Izaya however you want.
  • Somebody else number 4: This is why people need to read the novels. There is more to Izaya than what is portrayed in the anime.
  • Me: Plus, both the anime and manga is there to promote the original sources, so, naturally, they are going to leave out stuff, because they want you to read novels.
  • Somebody else number 5: Izaya isn't evil. He's not a sociopath. He's not a psychopath. He's not a troll. He is indeed only human and only wants a little more in his life than sitting on a bed and binge watch anime. There's so many reasons to like him <3
  • Me: While sociopath can be a generic term used for people with delayed or limited empathy(due to trauma)(unlike psychopaths, who are just born that way), as far as I know, sociopathy can still be detected in brain scans, because their brain still works and is wired very similarly to a psychopath. Either way, I honestly don't believe Izaya is either. I believe that he's just a human with a normal brain like both of his brain scans suggested.
  • Somebody else number 6: I honestly love hate him, but mostly I hate him, but I gotta admit he's a hot bastard.
  • Me: You're kind of missing the point, but whatever. He, just like anybody, has a side to him one can hate, but he also has a side to him that makes him a very complex character. The way he views things are so fascinating and he really opened my eyes to certain things. I can relate to his philosophy, I can empathize with his feelings about humans, and especially his hatred/jealous of Shizuo(having grown up with a brother that acts much like him, just to a less extreme, not mention I've experienced some domestic abuse, so I don't just like him for his looks alone(even if he is pretty good looking. Like I said, he's charming, cunning, shrewd but with class, is kind of funny at times, has views on society that I personally understand, is jealous of a lot of people for various reasons which I can also relate to. Despite being a mere human, he uses his wits to get out of dangerous situations, and to take down corporations like Amphisbaena and Jinnai Yadogiri. He has a an amazing ability to turn the tables when one least expects it, and wonderful flexibility as well. Unlike Shizuo, who has super strength, or Mikado who has close confidants he can truly rely on, or Celty, who can use her shadows and many others, Izaya is just a human(though he's jealous of every one of them, not forgetting Shinra, and doesn't actually want to be acknowledged as himself.)
  • He's an incredibly written character in the novels, but ultimately one I can relate to in certain aspects, including the feeling of loneliness, and feeling fear at the one he called his '(only)best friend' being mad at him. It honestly frustrates me when people bash him, or ignore the things that make him who he really is.
  • Izaya isn't a sadist, he just wants answers. And he's an emotional masochist at it's finest, possibly a chaotic neutral, and both an Anti-Villain and Anti-hero(though maybe a little more on the Anti-villain side at times). Also, lastly Izaya didn't "convince girls to commit suicide". In reality, he saved them in the novels(even if it wasn't really his intentions.) Ryo didn't happen. Izaya didn't cause the blood splatter. Because Manami and the other girl were the last two he messed with, and it clearly said that nobody he met up had actually went through with it in the end.

  • *has already abandoned conversation*

anonymous asked:

If i remember correctly, a couple of months back somebody asked you about bruce and jason; if they'd ever have a normal, deep conversation addressing their problems. How it'd go? I mean... do they maybe find themselves at a bar after some very peculiar set of events? We're never gonna get a truthful conversation with those two so i'm relying heavily on you to satisfy my curiosity. You're free to make me ache all over from the pain since you can do that well. :D

“If you wanted to watch the game with me, you could’ve just invited me to the manor,” Jason says as he opens the door to the bar. Better food, less drama, and more comfortable seats make Gotham Knights on the 200" batscreen more real and enjoyable than actually being at the stadium. There’s something to be said about the occasional bat flying past your head, but you get used to it. The alternative is some greasy guy’s saliva sprayed all over your hair while he’s screaming to some player to stop dragging his feet.

Sometimes Root would come home from a mission scattered. She’d sit on the couch and stare into space for hours, laptop forgotten and half-sliding off her legs until Shaw came and rescued it. She didn’t seem distressed or like she was in shock. Just gone.

When she eventually snapped back to the present, it would be with a slight shake of her head. She’d look around the room, curiously, as if she couldn’t quite recall how she’d gotten there, and then act normally. Or what passed for normal where Root was concerned.

“You done staring at the wall?” Shaw asked after one such occurrence.

Root paused in the middle of smoothing out the ruffled cocktail dress she hadn’t changed out of yet. She looked like she was about to answer, but then only smiled and countered with: “Maybe I’ll stare at you now instead.”

Shaw could appreciate not wanting to talk about certain things, but she couldn’t stop trying to piece together the mystery. Root was usually hurtling forward at a million miles a minute. To see her still and empty was unsettling.

It took her a little while to see the pattern.

“Who were you this time?” she asked when Root snapped back to the present.

“Secretary at a law firm.” Root peeled off a black blazer Shaw had never seen before. “Had to get my hands on some documents in the company safe. One of the lawyers tried to get his hands on me, though, so I left him in the safe instead.”

Some thieves left a calling card at the scene of their crime, like a glove or rose or something dumb. Root seemed to leave behind unconscious and severely traumatized misogynists as her calling card. Shaw couldn’t risk telling her how much of a kick she got out of that without risking a round of smugness.

Another episode followed a few weeks later.

“Let me guess…professional dog walker?”

Her outfit wasn’t anything special this time, but it was coated in animal hair.

“Groomer, not walker,” Root corrected as she got up from the couch, leaving a layer of hair behind.

“Well, don’t get any ideas about putting bows on Bear.”

“But he’d look so good with them.” Root pulled a handful of orange ribbon from her pocket and dangled it in front of Shaw like she was a kitten she was trying to entice into playing with it.

Unnecessary pet accessories aside, it was always a relief to see her full of life again.

The next time it happened, Shaw decided it was time to have a talk.

“Do I have something on my face?” Root asked when she blinked out of her trance to find Shaw sitting in a chair across from her, arms crossed.

“You never used to space out after taking other identities. What changed?”

There was a slight flicker of uneasiness on Root’s face, quickly chased away by a lazy smile that was anything but authentic. “Hmmm, maybe sometimes I get too into my role. Side effects of being too good at lying, I suppose.”

It felt like a half-truth to Shaw. “Used to be you’d be a pilot in the morning, a barista in the afternoon, and a debutante in the evening. Now you’re one thing for a day or two and you go all space cadet and stare holes in my wall. What gives?”

Root chuckled and leaned back on the couch, stretching her arms along the back of it. “This is possibly the least subtle attempt anyone has ever made to psychoanalyze me.”

“Subtle isn’t my thing. I asked. Up to you if you answer.”

Root wasn’t making eye contact anymore, a slightly guilty expression on her face. But she looked to be gathering her thoughts rather than trying to escape the conversation, so Shaw waited quietly.

“It’s different now,” Root said at last. “It's….”

She spent a few minutes frowning at the bottle of nail polish she’d left on the coffee table before continuing. “When I take on an identity, I go all in. There can’t be any crack or flaw in my disguise, so I have to be that person. Live their life, think their thoughts. I mean not all my missions require that, but…” She trailed off.

“But the ones that do are the ones you end up spacing out on my couch after.” Shaw could sort of see where this was going. “You’ve been doing that most of your life though. You didn’t used to have to…reboot your brain or whatever.”

“It’s different now,” Root said again. She was picking at one fingernail, refusing to look up.

“Hold that thought.” Shaw stood up and headed to the kitchen, leaving Root behind to sort out her thoughts. She figured the amount of time it took to make some tea would let Root regroup.

Root smiled when Shaw handed her the warm mug. Her smile widened when Shaw sat down next to her on the couch rather than returning to her chair.

“Back before all this, it was never a problem,” Root said, sounding more sure of herself now. “It was a lot easier to switch on and off identities. I was still me, I mean, but me was…less complicated. I kept things at a very shallow level, I suppose. Never let myself feel anything too deeply or get too attached. In some ways, my own identity was the easiest to assume because it was the least involved in anything else.”

She held her mug of tea cradled in both hands and stared into it like there was a script at the bottom to read from.

“It’ll get cold if you don’t drink it,” Shaw pointed out. She wanted to say more, but she figured that Root wasn’t done yet and didn’t want to derail her now that she was finally explaining.

Root obediently sipped her tea. “Thanks. For the tea, I mean.”

“There’s a lot more distance to come back now.” Root chewed on her lip for a second. “There’s more of me. More things that matter, more things I’m tied to, more things I miss. When I stop being myself now, it takes longer to put myself back together after. Like all the pieces of me get mixed in with all the pieces of other identities and I have to sort them out.”

“Sounds like a headache. How do you…I mean…do you just sort through every thought in your brain and put them all in the correct boxes or something?” Shaw didn’t have anything even remotely approaching a frame of reference for this.

“Not quite that consciously, perhaps. I’m not even really actively aware of it. It’s all a bit dream-like, and more like…following trail markers to get out of the woods.”

“Trail markers?”

“Things that strongly connect me to, well, me. Some silly little things–” She wiggled her fingers with their painted black nails. “–but also things like computers, the subway. Her, of course. She always helps me come back.” Root fidgeted with her mug. “And you.”

There was the slightest hint of red in her cheeks. A bit ridiculous that she was embarrassed, in Shaw’s opinion, since she flirted as freely as breathing. But then this was something a lot more complex than some bad innuendo. Shaw got that. She just wasn’t sure what to do with it in this particular case.

“So why keep working missions that make you do this?”

“It’s my job. And I don’t dislike it. It’s just gotten a little more complicated.”

She finally looked over at Shaw and whatever she saw in Shaw’s face made her relax (Shaw hadn’t thought she had any particular expression on, but then Root had always had an uncanny knack for reading her). She placed her tea down on the coffee table and tentatively rested one of her hands on Shaw’s leg. When Shaw didn’t stiffen or move away, she settled her hand more firmly, palm still warm from the mug.

“She did offer to decrease the number of those types of missions, but that doesn’t seem fair. I don’t want to let Her down.”

Shaw held back an exasperated sigh. For someone who went on about how much her AI buddy cared about all of them, Root could be pretty willfully oblivious to how that caring extended to herself as well. But that wasn’t something she could fix in one afternoon.

“What can I do?” It still felt a little weird asking that, but she’d found out over time it was better than staying frustrated in silence. For both of them.

“Honestly, I’m not sure. But coming back here…it’s a good place to be. It makes the way back a lot shorter.”

“Then tell your boss that you always come here after a mission.” Though Shaw strongly suspected that the Machine was on the same page as her here.

Root didn’t say anything and the silence stretched out between them. Her fingers traced patterns across Shaw’s leg.

It didn’t happen again for a while (though Shaw was unsure if that was a coincidence or if the Machine was demonstrating the good sense that her analogue interface clearly lacked), but a month and a half later Shaw came home to the now-familiar sight of Root sitting motionless on her couch.

She looked her over with a tiny frown, taking in the details. Whoever Root had been this time had another fancy job that required formal business attire. The look suited Root in so far as all looks suited her, but it didn’t feel quite right.

She ended up sitting on the coffee table in front of Root, carefully lifting one of Root’s hands from her lap and placing it on her own knee. Root didn’t stir.

Shaw uncapped the small bottle of stinky cheap nail varnish that Root still hadn’t moved from the coffee table and went to work applying a coat of black polish to each of Root’s nails. She took her time, being careful not to smudge it, and staying fully focused on her task.

When she finished the last nail on Root’s other hand, Root’s fingers twitched on her leg. Shaw looked up to meet her eyes.

“Thought you hated the beautician business.” Root was all mischievous smiles and bright eyes again.

“Got bored. And you’re sitting on the tv remote.”

“I can think of much better things to be sitting on.”

From totally zoned out to hitting on her in under a minute. Shaw was almost impressed.

“You eaten yet? Dinner, I mean.”

Root shrugged. “Don’t really remember.”

Shaw sighed and headed to the kitchen. “I’ve got some leftovers I can heat up.”

Later that night, she let Root curl up on her and put her head on her chest.

“Getting cold lately,” Shaw said, one hand idly playing with a lock of Root’s hair. “Nice to have a human radiator again.”

“I missed you, too.”

“Hmph.” That level of sentimentality was frankly unnecessary.

“It’s nice to be back.” Root sounded half asleep now.

Shaw didn’t answer, but instead tucked Root’s head more firmly under her chin. She didn’t let herself fall asleep until Root’s eyes drooped shut and her breathing evened out. When she woke up the next morning, she found that Root had rolled off her in the night, but one of her hands still rested on Shaw’s chest, fingers splayed out, and each nail painted with a perfect coat of black polish.
