A/N: Enjoy!  Sorry for the wait xx

You spent the whole night crying into your pillow; all of the unspoken words were now put into tears, falling freely from your eyes instead of your lips. You had wanted to tell him how you felt from the very beginning, but now seeing how things played out, you wish you could have just kept your mouth shut instead of acting so impulsively. More so, you just wished that your feelings would disappear for Ethan.

Everything would have been perfect if you hadn’t fallen for him, but then again, you couldn’t help it. Ethan Grant Dolan was everything you’d ever wanted and more. He was the one who put your heart back together after the countless amount of boys crushed it. He was the one who made you laugh until tears jerked at your eyes and your stomach hurt; he was the one you talked on the phone with late at night, having conversations with him that went on into the early morning. He was the one you confided in with everything, the one person who’s opinion actually mattered. He was the one who could make you feel every emotion possible all at once, or nothing at all.

Practically numb is how you felt right now, the dull sensation engulfing your body besides you heart, leaving you to feel the aching pain in your chest. You heaved out another sob when you heard your phone start blasting your alarm. You wiped your eyes and your eyebrows knitted together, finding it mind blowing that you managed to stay up and not fall asleep. You decided to stay in bed though. You knew for a fact that you weren’t ready to see Ethan. Once glance at him, and you’d break down. Things weren’t going to be the same from now on, and you’d be surprised if you guys would ever be friends again. You clutched the blanket closer to your chest, shutting your eyes as you heard your mom’s feet padding towards your door.

She knocked twice and entered, a frown etched upon her face. "Hey sweetie, you don’t feel well?” Your mom asked, shuffling over to where you were laying.

She pressed the back of her hand to your forehead before gasping. “Y/N! You’re burning up, love. Try and sleep, and i’ll grab you some aspirin for when you wake up.”

You nodded, thankful for the fact that your mom was so lenient and that you were in fact coming down with something. You shut your eyes, and let out a deep sigh before somehow managing to fall asleep.

You didn’t know how long you’d been asleep for, but when you woke up, your mom’s face was mere inches from yours, smiling gently as she stroked your head. "Hey honey, I’m sorry for waking you up. I’m heading out, I have work. But I invited Ethan over to keep you company."

You immediately shot up, "No, mom. I’m alright, really. I don’t need any company. I’m totally fine by myself, Ethan doesn’t have to come over.” Your heart was pounding in your ears, you weren’t ready to see him again. You needed time.

Your mom laughed, “Oh don’t be silly, Y/N. He’s already on his way here. He seemed a quite eager to get here, too.” She winked, “But I have to get going. I love you, call me if you need anything.” She kissed your forehead and walked out of your room, leaving you spastic. Your mind was racing along with your heartbeat. You skimmed your brain for any plausible ideas on how to escape this situation.

By the time you came up wth a plan to avoid Ethan, you heard your front door open and close, along with Ethan calling your name. Your eyes widened and your elaborate plan immediately went out the window as you dropped to the ground and crawled underneath your bed. Your bedroom door opened and Ethan walked in.

“Y/N? You in here?”

Silence. The room was dead quiet for a few moments until you heard Ethan sigh and watched him walk towards your bed. The mattress dipped as he sat down on the edge of your mattress, practically right above you. Your lips immediately trembled as you saw Ethan’s worn out, written on vans shuffle into view. Your eyes stung as you saw the faint, purple ink on the inside of his left shoe, ‘Y/N and Ethan forever! <3’

You let out a shaky breath that you didn’t know you were holding in, resulting in you clamping a hand over your mouth as you felt the bed shift back in place and watched as Ethan’s feet were now planted firmly on the floor.

He heard you, there was no doubt about it. You watched as he knelt down slowly, his head peeking under the bed to find you, hand over your mouth with tears in your eyes. He felt his heart clench. If there was one thing Ethan absolutely could not stand to see, it was seeing you cry. When his beautiful honey colored orbs met your tearful ones, that’s when you lost it.

You started to cry. You laid there under your bed, hair unruly and knotted, eyes full of tears, cheeks wet, face flushed and lips quivering as you poured out all of your emotions.

Nonetheless, he still thought you looked absolutely beautiful.

He reached under the bed and grabbed your waist and arm, trying you pull you out from under you bed. Once doing so, he got off of his knees and sat down, pulling you onto of him so that you were cradled in his arms. You placed your head in-between the crook of is neck and sobbed. He shh’ed you quietly, rubbing your back. He pressed a soft kiss to your forehead and pulled your body, that was adorned by one of the many sweatshirts of his that you had, closer to him. He’d never admit it, but seeing you in his clothes drove him absolutely insane.

Your cries died down after a while. You hiccuped and breathed in the familiar scent of him, which calmed your nerves greatly, but also sent your mind into overdrive. Not even an hour or two ago you were thinking of how you never wanted to see him again, but right now, all you craved was him, even if it wasn’t in the way you hoped for. You craved to be in his big, comforting arms; to feel his body pressed against yours as he held you tightly to his toned, muscular chest. To feel the tuffs of his soft, dark hair between your fingers, or to feel his hot, minty breath fan against your neck. It didn’t matter how you had him, you just needed him. You needed Ethan.

“I’m sorry,” You stammered. “I-I shouldn’t have told you off like that. I shouldn’t have gotten so mad about you and Meredith. I just got so winded seeing you two be all mushy all the time. I should be happy for you..”

“Y/N.” Ethan mumbled against your forehead. You hadn’t heard him though; you were rambling on with the sincerest apology you could muster up, even though it hurt you to say it.

You were blubbering, feeling the tears come rushing back, “And the fact that I wasn’t being supportive of you and Meredith’s relationship just shows how terrible of a friend I was..”

Ethan’s mind was elsewhere, not giving it a second thought when he mumbled, “I broke up with Meredith.”

You still continued, “It shouldn’t have mattered about what she was saying to me in the pool about me needing to get over-”

You stopped talking and you both turned to each other in shock, not believing what was being said.

“Wait, what?” You said simultaneously, concern laced in his voice, disbelief present in yours.

“You guys broke up?”

“What did she say to you?”

He looked at you sternly, as if telling you to explain first.

You bit your lip and averted your gaze to the floor, “She was just telling me that I needed to get over you because you would never like me and stuff. That’s what got me going last night in the first place..”

His clenched his jaw, causing waves of emotions to ripple through you. “Are you fucking serious?”

“Yes.”

The room was silent for a few moments, the air grew thick.

“Well she was wrong.”

You immediately snapped your eyes back up to his face, to see him looking straight forward towards your wall nonchalantly giving you a quick glance.

“What?”

“She’s wrong, Y/N. I do like you. Fuck, I was trying to tell you that in my truck last night, but you wouldn’t let me talk. I’ve liked you for so many years now. I just never thought you’d like me back, which is why I started dating Meredith in the first place. To try and get over you. But when you told me all of that stuff last night, I realized how fucking stupid I was.” He said exasperated, his cheeks a bright red.

You both held each other’s gaze, your faces incredibly close together; so close that you could feel his breath hitting your face.

You didn’t think you were hearing him properly. Perhaps you were still asleep, dreaming. He liked you. He always had liked you.

“Fucking hell, pinch me. I must be dreaming..” You mumbled.

He let out a small laugh, before his eyes flickered from your eyes to your lips. “I can do something a lot more efficient than pinching you to show you this isn’t a dream, sweetheart.”

With that, he closed the remaining space between the two of you as his lips captured yours in a much needed passionate kiss. You immediately reciprocated the actions, kissing him with everything you had in you.

You both eventually pulled away, gasping for air as you pressed your forehead against his. Your eyes fluttered open to see him already looking at you, grinning.

“Be mine.”

You looked at him, not fully processing what he had said as you felt your chest swell.

“What did you say?”

“Be” He muttered, kissing your cheek. “Mine,” he whispered in your ear, pressing another kiss to your jaw.

Your head rolled back, basking in the feeling of his lips hot against you skin.

“Of course.”

You gave him another sweet kiss on the lips before getting off of him.

“Now, let’s take a nap, crying takes a lot out of a girl.” You joked, jumping in your bed, wrapping yourself up in the covers.

He smiled and got into bed with you, cuddling you from behind. “Anything for my princess.”

I hoped you guys liked it! I’m sorry for the long wait. Feel free to request!! xx

It seems as though Calum isn’t grasping what is about the happen if we’re not very, very rapid. In a split second I fly out of Calum’s embrace, pulling the duvet with me as I desperately try to locate the articles of clothing that had covered my body upon arriving here. “Shit, shit, shit … Shit!”

The word flows past my lips like molten butter as I slide my knickers over my legs while trying to get my button up slid over my shoulders as well. Calum is slowly sitting up, running a hand through his unruly hair as I throw one of his shirts at his head. “Get dressed, now!”

“Damn, who knew you could be so bossy…” Calum chuckles and I throw him a death glare while I button my shirt with one hand, my other trying to push a leg in my pants hole. “This is not a time to fucking laugh at this Calum, or do you want Meredith to see us stark naked tangled up?”

Calum gets out of bed and slides one of his sweatpants over his legs, going commando for the occasion, apparently, as he walks towards me. “What makes you think that it’s Meredith coming home, it could be my –“ Calum doesn’t get to finish his sentence before I am proven right.

“Y/n? Are you here?” I hear Meredith voice highly pitch against the walls, in search of me. My eyes widen as I realise I left my coat on the floor of the hallway. “See?” I whisper, pointing towards Calum’s closed door as I hear her footsteps approaching. I slide my feet into my shoes and drop on Calum’s sofa as Calum sits down on his bed, just in time.

“Cal is Y/n – Ah, Y/n.” Meredith turns her head towards me and immediately frowns as I feel my cheeks and ears tint red. I’m fiddling my hands in my lap as I try to avoid Meredith’s gaze at all costs. “What uh – what are you doing here?” Meredith continues as she keeps her position, hand on the door knob and eyes trained on me.

“I’m uh –“ I start my sentence and I let my eyes flick to Calum who seems totally unfazed by all of this. He’s simply lounging on his bed, without a care in the world as he lazily grins at me. Thanks for nothing, Calum.

“I wanted to go out for something to eat with you, but you weren’t home yet so I decided to hang out with Calum until you were.” I mumble the words at record speed as I raise to my feet. My flat hands pat my thighs a few times, hoping to close off this conversation and get out of here as soon as possible before I – or Calum, who knows – blurts something out that isn’t for certain ears to hear right now.

“Your coat was in the middle of ground…” Meredith just states with a raised eyebrow before she crosses her arms over her chest. I feel my cheeks redden even more as I take a few steps towards her, hoping to pass her soon and get this food I quickly lied about.

“I – uh well I put it on the banister so maybe it slid off or something, I have absolutely no idea.” And that last part wasn’t even a proper lie. When Meredith’s stoic features turn into a small smile, I know I’m off the hook and I’d get down on my knees and thank God if that wouldn’t be suspicious.

“Ah well, let’s grab a bite to eat then. But I need to go to the restroom real quick I’ll see you downstairs.” Meredith smiles and winks before she turns around and disappears downstairs, leaving Calum and I alone once more.

“You swine couldn’t you just help me out once – “ I turn around, smile bright on my face but I’m interrupted with Calum’s hand sliding along my jaw and his lips forcefully pressed to mine. As soon as I let my eyelids flutter closed he breaks the kiss and forces me to open my eyes again.

“Let me make you dinner tonight. A proper date, I won’t fuck it up.” Calum whispers before he takes a step back. His grin brightens when he sees me nod my head as a yes and kisses me quickly again. “Aren’t you going to be angry that again I didn’t tell Mer anything?” I mumble, pushing Calum just the slightest bit away. He seemed to totally let it slide although it was one of the reasons we’d argue all the time.

Of course I didn’t want to start an argument now but I didn’t want him mauling on this while I was away with Meredith only to burst when we’d be alone together again. “Y/n…” He starts off with a whine to my name and I feel myself tense up.

“I just want to –“ he interrupts me. “I understand, Y/n. Let’s first see if we can work out before telling everyone, right?” Calum smiles as he tucks a strand of hair behind my ear and I feel my smile grow incredibly large.

“You are the best.” I press my lips softly against his briefly before retreating and already starting my way downstairs. “Y/n, be here tonight at seven.” I wink before I completely disappear out of Calum’s sight. Just in time though, as I hear the bathroom open loudly right as I set foot into the hallway.

*********************

“So, tell me. How are you and Harry?” Meredith wiggles her eyebrows and I think back about the last conversation that Harry and I had shared.

“Ah, I don’t think that’s working out. But it doesn’t matter, we’re still planning on remaining friends.” Meredith frowns as I finish my sentence and her hand grasps mine over the table as we wait for our food.

“I – I think it’s sad. You do deserve someone like Harry. I think he would treat you good.” I nod my head along and smile as I see the waiter arrive with our food. “Thank you.” I smile as I already pick up my utensils to dig into my bacon and eggs before I respond to Meredith.

“Harry’s a great guy, but just isn’t the one for me. I don’t think it’s very responsible to go from friends with benefits to a relationship either, to be honest. I think it takes a bit of the innocence I like of a fresh relationship.” I giggle as Meredith starts laughing while shoving food in her mouth.

“I just want you to be happy, Y/n.”

“Who said I wasn’t happy the way all is now? I don’t need anything in my life but my bestie right now.” I grin as I wink at her, shoving another piece of bacon past my lips.
“You know, that was so sweet of you to say but the way you’ve been chewing that has taken away all magic.” I snort loudly as I try to swallow my food, and partially fail. I grasp for my glass of water and shake my head.

“Unbelievable.”

“Anyway, do you want to go to the movies tonight? There’s this new romance movie that I’m dying to see and it’s recently playing.” Meredith starts hyping and I feel my eyes widen as I rack my brain for an excuse. Keep it simple, don’t make up details or you will screw up. Thanks for the advice mom.

“Ah, sorry. I have plans tonight. But I’m free tomorrow?” I awkwardly smile as I scratch at my thigh underneath the table. Meredith sighs but doesn’t seem to think any of it. “Alright, I guess I’ll just go to Michael’s tonight then.” The thought of Meredith not being home and Calum and I having free range makes my heart skip a beat.

I finish the last of my food in awkward silence and after a few minutes, I decide it’s probably best to bail. We’ve been here for a few hours as well and I want to look good for my date with Calum tonight.

“You know what, I’m going to get going. I’ll see you tomorrow.” I raise to my feet and lean down again to press my lips against her cheek as a goodbye. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.” Meredith grins and I feel my smile fall into a flat line. I’m fairly certain she wouldn’t be doing what I’m about to.

no offence but the whole McDreamy vs McSteamy honestly fkin comes down to comparing “I don’t know if I wanna keep trying to breathe for you” and “if she’s going through her worst right now I want to go through it with her” bc tbH that’s the most important fkin parallel anD THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAY BYE

Your Voight post made me think, and I think CPD doesn't get enough appreciation re: how they seem to effortlessly go against a lot of toxic masculinity. Like, there's been any issues with the guys crying or expressing their love for each other, and it's never made into a joke or followed with a no homo reaction or smthn like that and idk I guess I really appreciate the male friendships in CPD. Even the rest of the franchise doesn't do so well as this imo (not counting justice bc it's still new)

You know I started replying to this and then I realised that I’ve never really thought about the male characters in that much depth…I’m the first to sing about how amazing Erin and Burgess are, as well as male characters individually, but when I really thought about how well the men have been created, I ended up with an entire essay so apologies it’s so long but I just love this show and these guys. Also since there’s been a lot of negativity in light of *cough* recent events, I thought it would be nice to show my appreciation, so here goes. Feel free to add examples/contradictions/points/other ideas etc!!

Something I need to say before beginning: I find it really, really difficult to empathise with male characters. It’s just harder for me to really relate to their issues. And I think a huge reason for this is just that being a female character in these shows and these professions is just harder. And therefore there are a certain amount of fundamental difficulties that each female character has to face, and since being a female in general involves a lot of these struggles, it’s much easier for other women to look at these characters and see themselves in them. Look at Erin and Burgess struggling to keep their hard work and intelligence a more valuable feature to their unit than their bodies. Look at April and Maggie trying not to be undermined by their male, more qualified co-workers - and Manning being a single, working mum. Look at Gabby beating the odds and becoming a firefighter even though no one thinks she can do it because she’s small and female.

And I love that this show can do that: take these vital professions and give them amazing, well developed, multifaceted female characters whose constant struggles are so relatable for any female watching because we’ve all been there.

But what PD does that I just don’t see so much in the others (Fire does it to an extent, but I can’t really think of any examples in Med - although it’s my least favourite and so I’m probably not the best person to make analyses based on it, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) is do the same with the males. And it’s something that I have never seen on a TV show before. There’s no “no-homo” bullshit, there’s no reservations around being friends. They hug each other when they’re worried about them, they do the friendly shoulder squeezes and arm-punches and fist-bumps. They go out for drinks together. They trust each other and look out for each other and they talk to each other about how they feel. And it’s really, really nice to see.

People go the extra mile when writing female characters (although admittedly, as a teenage girl I’m probably not using the widest sample range of TV shows) because they know that either a) their audience is mostly female, or b) they’re worried about sexist accusations. Women have always been victims of horrible media tropes, so I’m so, so glad that they do go this extra mile - I love seeing female friendships more than anything else in the world - but because people are so aware of the issue surrounding female characters, they’ve taken that into consideration, while assuming that there isn’t actually a problem with their male characters.

What Chicago PD does that I think is incredible from a characterisation point of view is they take these archetypal cop characters - the dirty cop (Voight), the by-the-book cop (Antonio), the shell-shocked veteran cop (Halstead), the old-cop young cop (Ruzek and Ollinsky) and the gentle giant (Attwater). **there are more, such as Attwater arguably being the “token minority” and Ruzek being the “fair cop” but you get the idea. They all seem to represent one of the main tropes that are almost always present in cop shows (at least all the ones I’ve watched).

And the show doesn’t subvert the tropes, not exactly - even though doing so would be so much easier - but they three-dimensialise (idk if that’s a word just roll with me here) all the characters on top of these fundamental archetypes. ie:

  • Voight is a dirty cop. He kills people in the name of justice, he’s used dirty money and lied under oath and done things that probably should have lost him his badge a million times. And yet, he works tirelessly for the protection of his city. He loves his son with everything he has, and his grandson, and his daughter-in-law. He took in a 13(?) year old who’d been hooked on heroin and arrested for solicitation and loves her like she’s his own daughter. He made amends with the guy who put his son in jail. He always, always fights for the underdog and doesn’t let the system take advantage of them. He treats his unit as if they are his “family” - literally his words - and he has formed relationships with every single one of them, bending the rules and putting his neck and badge on the line if they ever do anything wrong or against the rules. (Example: 3x05)
  • Antonio plays by the rules, that’s just who he is. He believes in the system more than Voight does, arguably because he’s always been on the right side of it. But that doesn’t mean he’s not willing to make compromises if those he really cares about are on the line - he is more than willing to turn a blind eye to other people’s ‘interpretations’ of the law, and he will do everything in his power to fight his way using the rules of the system before he breaks them. (1x02, 3x01)
  • Halstead’s military history I think is one of the most interesting aspects of this show because he had the potential to turn into a “cold sniper” as I think is the norm with ex-military characters, and yeah, he was affected in ways that we don’t even know - and may never fully understand - by what he saw and did in his tour(s). But he’s so selfless and sweet and supportive. His PTSD and general commitment issues mean that he can’t open up to everyone but he still lets them open up to him, being Erin’s #1 supporter, and he’s finally started to work on looking after his mental health properly and learning how to ask for help. He’s kind and caring and understands the importance of sacrifice and, like Voight, is willing to bend the rules a little bit - even if he’s always there to question Voight’s methods. (3x17, 4x18 - deleted scene)
  • Ruzek is the token rookie of the show, and the audience is placed in the same boat as him when initially learning the ropes of the unit and how everyone fits. He’s the young and attractive one (I mean….), and he does exhibit those typical rookie traits: he’s rash and reckless and cocky and definitely not as cynical as any of the others, but at the same time he has a huge heart, he’s sweet and caring, and he can be as tough as hell when someone he loves is in danger. He doesn’t have the “tortured romantic” side to him and he has a typical cop family tree, but he’s the person I feel like most people can probably relate to - someone who puts themselves in harm’s way every single day for no reason other than he wants to make a difference. (1x01, 1x11)
  • Ollinsky is the other dirty cop, although he functions more as an assistant to the dirty cop. He has the tough coldness about him that you would probably expect Jay to have instead, if following these tropes by the book, and he comes across as very sinister and quite scary. And yet he is an absolute darling around Lexi and Michelle and when Lexi died and Meredith was kidnapped, he totally lost control. Despite all the coldness and being closed-off he is perhaps the most emotional of them all, grieving and crying and not caring about how tough he is when someone he loves is threatened. (4x16)
  • Attwater is the gentle giant of the show and although this doesn’t need much more explaining, he, alongside Erin, is also the token minority of the unit (even more so now that Antonio’s left and Burgess has joined Erin in Intelligence) and although this trope is constantly seen as a bad thing, using a token character to avoid criticism of being racist in casting choices, in PD Attwater opens the door to addressing cases of police racism, corruption and brutality against ethnic minorities, and the episodes in which they do deal with this, Attwater is quick to express his opinion on the matter and challenge within seconds everything that’s wrong with the institution and their society. But on top of all that, he has relatives in prison, he’s expected to be a big tough “scary black man”, but in actuality he looks after his two younger siblings and does stand-up comedy and probably gives the best bear hugs ever.

And the support system that these six men have together (or five, now that Antonio’s left) is incredible to watch. They understand barriers, they know when to push and when to give each other space, they all work together so well in such a potentially toxic environment without even a hint at this hyper-masculinity that is so huge in other cop shows. They’re all just bros.

What’s also great is that even though there’s a lil bit of that bro-masculine culture especially when Erin goes undercover and dresses up all nice, they’re never anything but perfect gentlemen. There’s no teasing and no sexist remarks about her legs or whatever, they all just seem genuinely impressed by how pretty she looks and how well she does her job. Adam even says things like “there’s about a thousand things I could say right now but won’t” because they all respect Erin and Burgess and support them as much as each they do each other. They don’t care if the women do better jobs than them, or save them, or shoot more accurately than them, and they’d never dream of undermining their femininity while doing so.

Other examples of the bros being bros:

  • Antonio getting Jay into the unit in the first place as a thank you for helping out Gabby (Chicago Fire, season 2 sometime, mentioned later when Antonio leaves)
  • Voight literally crying on Alvin’s shoulder after Justin’s death
  • Every single one of Jay and Mouse’s interactions, especially when they talk about their time in the military and Jay realises how much he cares about his friend when Mouse wants to re-enlist and when Mouse is taken hostage (4x05, 3x03)
  • Antonio and Voight’s entire friendship and the fact that Voight would go to such measures to help Diego even after Antonio was the one to put the cuffs on and send him to jail
  • Attwater and Ruzek being bros until the end and *sniff* the whole best man thing
  • They all buy Antonio a zimmer frame when he gets shot isn’t that just beautiful
  • Ruzek hugging Al after Lexi’s death and his little “I don’t know what to say” and “can I hug you?” - like he knows Al might just want space but he has to let him know he’s there for him
  • They all get so upset when Jay is taken. Just watch the scene where they see the video of his torture and their faces break me. They can’t handle the idea that someone so close to them - their brother - is in so much pain. (3x01)
  • Seriously tho just look at these bros

Sam and Dean watched you crawl across the living room of Bobby’s house, ever since you were born your mother, Meredith, and you had been staying there; keeping safe while John took Sam and Dean around with him on hunts. Occasionally he would leave them behind at Bobby’s with you for a few weeks, but he would always return back for them, and spend a few days with you and your mom before hitting the road again.

Meredith was getting sick of it, she was a hunter too, on a path for revenge just like John. She wanted to go out and find the werewolves that attacked her family; killing her husband and two young children. Right now she was in the kitchen arguing with John over going back on hunts again.

The Journey - Part Eleven

Previous chapters are HERE. Thank you so much @jia911 for your amazing help!

I want to use this space also to wish a super HAPPY BIRTHDAY to @milesislookingforalaska ! Hope you had a blessed day!

Timeline for Part 11:

Guys I am so happy I decided to split this part into two chapters because it wouldn’t have been possible to explore everything I wanted otherwise. This one is my favorite so far, it has a lot of unseen scenes and these are my favorite to write. It takes place during the events of 11x14, when Amelia recklessly takes off her gloves during Herman’s surgery and Owen flips (I wrote his reaction to it) and also what I imagined happened between 11x14 and 11x15. Here goes!

The Journey – Part Eleven

“Shepherd, what are you doing?!”

Owen had got up and reached for the intercom before he could even notice what he was doing. From the OR, he heard Amelia’s distant voice.

“It’s so much easier this way…”

But Owen didn’t care how easy it was. After over fifteen hours of standing in that OR, going through an incredible exhausting procedure, Amelia Shepherd had finally made it to the near end. All she needed to do was place small radioactive seeds in the inside of Nicole Herman’s brain to make sure the chances of tumor recurrence were as close to none as possible. After weeks of closely following up with her plans, Owen knew the procedure steps by heart. The radiation level those seeds contained were considerably high, which demanded special gear to handle them. Even though the dosage was not life threatening, it could still be very harmful. As chief, Owen had to ensure the hospital staff took every precautionin n the book to guarantee their own safety before anyone else’s.

His head of neurosurgery taking off her gloves and exposing herself to radiation was a huge liability. It could cause a great deal of damage if she prolonged that exposure, therefore causing a big bureaucratic headache for Owen to solve, not to mention a very likely insurance problem.

But that was not at all Owen’s concern.

May 2015

Harry didn’t go to many weddings; he’d been to three in his life. The last had been his mother’s two years ago, Louis’ mum last year and before that the last wedding he’d been to have been his Auntie Doreen’s when he was eight and had to be a page boy. He didn’t really know what to do at weddings or what to wear so when Ben and Meredith had invited him, he immediately asked his mum what to do. She’d washed her hands of him though when she reminded him of the outfit he wore to last years’ wedding. She didn’t agree with his half buttoned silk shirt and scarf combo, and she’d despised his hat.

Having been left to his own devices, Harry decided to replicate last years’ assemble, only he didn’t add the black hat this time and he buttoned his shirt a little higher. He was glad of his higher shirt when he kept seeing all the old ladies Ben inexplicably knew staring at him, most of them winked and he was happy to be more clothed.

The wedding ceremony and reception, like Harry assumed most were, had been full of sweet messages and crying. He didn’t cry but he did have a watery eye when Ben took Meredith for their first dance. Now it was the after party and Harry had undone another button and discarded his jacket somewhere and was making his way to the bar. He’d come alone, meeting up with Niall and Louis in the church both of them were already hammered and he needed a few more drinks before he could reach their level.

He spotted her for the first time all day, leaning against the bar with her trademark scowl as she surveyed the room. She had a bottle of Corona hanging from her fingers, which Harry had come to learn was her favoured beer, though she was partial to red wine and a brandy. He couldn’t help but smile when he looked at her, he loved the way her lips naturally pouted and how her face was always so blank yet her eyes were so expressive. She didn’t give a shit about anything and he loved it. She was like an egg he wanted to crack, a book he wanted to read every word of and a puzzle he knew he’d never finish.

Dear John.

A/N: This is the 4th backstory to the imagines rewrite, that & the previous backstories can be found here. This has some angst but for the most part it’s just sad. At this point the Winchester men haven’t seen the reader for almost 8 months. Everyone’s age is going to be changing throughout this part

Dean’s age-14

Sam’s age-10

Reader’s age-20 months

The boys raced up the steps of Bobby’s house, each time they stopped by they hoped that you would be there. It had been nearly 9 months since Meredith grabbed you and left the motel room and they hadn’t heard from you since.

They didn’t even bother knocking on the door, they swung it open, hoping to see your face but they were crushed when they were met by Bobby’s sad stare from the couch.

“Come on Sam, let’s grab our stuff from the car.” Dean said dejectedly. The boys walked back outside, passing their dad on the way in.

John let out a sigh and Bobby stood up and walked over to his desk, “Still no word?” he asked.

Bobby grabbed something from his desk, an envelope, and walked over to John, “She wrote you something.” Bobby spoke quietly.

John ripped it from Bobby’s hand and opened the letter,

Hhhhhhokay a few things.

• Maggie and Jackson are step-siblings. They had no chemistry before five minutes ago, and even if we’re ignoring the age difference, Jackson is in a much different place in his life than she is. It feels like a lame Japril-angst gimmick which will wind up wasting all three characters’ screen time.

• Stephanie, the only character whose plot actually has to do with medicine, is leaving. Fine. On par for Shonda. But she’s leaving without saying goodbye to Amelia? Not fine. Wrong.

• Why did Meredith’s happiness have to vanish again? I can’t stand bitter, love-hating Meredith Grey — she’s only tolerable when she’s in love at this point. If this job is going to encompass Ellen Pompeo’s acting career, can Shonda let her play an emotion other than “sour”?

• Am I to understand that Megan’s purpose is to reset all the s13 plots? She basically puts Meredith and Nathan back to square one; she’ll completely distract from Owen and Amelia’s marriage problems (and the very real plot of Amelia’s pain with babies), and she’ll steal screen time from the usual victims — Arizona, April, and Amelia. Do we honestly need another distraction right now?

• If Shonda doesn’t make good on the promise to remove two-dimensional, poorly-acted Eliza Minnick, I will lose it. (And give Arizona a likable love interest that’ll stick around, ffs.)

• Reality check: even in shock, Stephanie would not have functioned as well as she did. Her hearing would have been damaged severely — those burns would be causing her agonizing pain when the adrenaline wasn’t pumping (e.g. sitting on the stairs, motionless). The severe smoke inhalation = no sassy quips (“Did you take the scenic route?”). And I need another whole point for my last criticism…

• Why the FUCK did Stephanie set the rapist on fire? She looked down at the scalpel on the ground — his back was turned and his hands were occupied. She could’ve stabbed him and ended it all — there was a clear shot to the head/neck area if that wasn’t good enough! It’s ridiculous writing.

• I’m very upset about a lot of things.

(1/2)I love your metas, but I do have a point of contention WRT GC Elthina. From Sebastian's (canonical) short story and personal quest, it seems that she views the young Starkhavener as a sort of adoptive son, and it isn't hard to imagine that she feels the same way about the KC and the GE. Honestly, Elthina has always seemed like a tragic character to me. Watching two people you care about have a falling out is never a good feeling. I can't blame her for not wanting to look into the eyes of...

(2/2)… One of the people she loved and tell them she was siding against them. Both M and O were hardliners, refusing to: give magi the benefit of the doubt; and prioritise the stability of the chantry over the lives of his people; respectively. This was exacerbated by depression (O) and RL use (M), making it impossible for them to find compromise. Her devotion to neutrality didn’t help in the long run, but I can’t bring myself to hate a tired old woman who wanted her kids to get along again.

Hi, Anonymous person. Thank you for the compliment, but … really? I mean this, specifically:

Both M and O were hardliners, refusing to: give magi the benefit of the doubt; and prioritise the stability of the chantry over the lives of his people; respectively.

Oh, Orsino. Why do you have to be so extreme with the ‘not wanting to die’, or even, let’s be really daring, ‘not wanting to be tortured to the point of committing suicide’? Why can’t you understand that it’s important for the Chantry, with all its wealth, power, political influence and privilege, to retain its iron grip on Thedas? I mean, think if it didn’t. We might have things like religious tolerance and basic rights and free speech, and then where would we be? Can’t you and your helpless mages just suffer quietly so the rich, corrupt and powerful can keep on being rich, corrupt and powerful? Look at it from Meredith’s point of view. All she’s done is illegally take control of one little city-state and spend nearly two decades abusing her power to the detriment of pretty much everyone, but especially the mages, who are dying in droves. Is that really so bad?

Look. In terms of his perseverance, and his courage in the face of terrible abuse and mortal peril, Orsino is fierce and heroic. But politically, the man is a moderate. He’s too moderate for me. I mean, I love him, because I understand how he got to this position, and why it’s hard for him to go further, but this is not a winning strategy.

Me, I’m with Anders and Fiona and Adrian and their ilk. The mages must be free. The Chantry – its wealth, its power, its status, its legal hold over so many lives – must go. Not just for the mages. For everyone.

Orsino isn’t asking for that.

As first enchanter, Orsino worked tirelessly to improve the lot of the mages. He wanted, as much as he could, to make their days in the Gallows worth something. Even if they were still prisoners, and even though it was hard, he wanted to give them hope. More importantly, he wanted to give them something of a life so that death would not be preferable.

World of Thedas, II

He’s not trying to tear down the Circles, or put an end to the Chantry, or anything like that. He wants the mages to be able to walk sometimes in the sun. To not be locked in tiny cells. To be safe from beatings and rape and torture. To not be made Tranquil when they’ve passed their Harrowings. To have meaningful work and leisure. To have a life inside the Circle, while living by Chantry rules.

That’s … not a hardline position. That’s … just a basic standard of living. Meredith is an extremist. The treatment of the mages in Kirkwall is considered remarkable even in other Circles. Even non-mages in Kirkwall have been stirred to sympathy for the mages:

Every Circle in Thedas suffers from individual mages who rebel and attempt to flee. These apostates are usually found and returned to the Circle or mercifully killed if they have fallen to demonic temptation. Until now, I have never served anywhere that the populace does not fully cooperate in hunting these rebels.

Here in Kirkwall, citizens actually help rebel mages escape. Escaped apostates have survived their freedom long enough to form the “the mage underground,” a network that feeds and shelters escapees and even transports apostates into remote areas of the Free Marches and beyond our easy reach.

– The Mage Underground

The mages are hurling themselves from the top of the fucking tower, it’s that bad in there, and people have noticed that something is wrong.

Note that Elthina’s ‘kids’, as you put it, have never got along. Meredith was against Orsino’s election the position of first enchanter. Not because she thought somebody else would be better at the job, but because she didn’t want the mages to have an advocate at all.

First Enchanter Maceron died in 9:28 Dragon without naming a successor. Many were surprised to learn that the Gallows still had a first enchanter; Maceron had spent nearly all of the last decade in his chambers, emerging only rarely. But now he was dead, and the Gallows in need of a new first enchanter. Knight-Commander Meredith was of the opinion that there was no need for one. After all, the Gallows ran perfectly under the Templars, without interference from Maceron. But Orsino realised that the mages needed someone to speak on their behalf, lest the Templars rob them of what few liberties they still had.

World of Thedas II

It seems she ultimately let it slide because she didn’t really believe he could accomplish anything. As far as I can tell, all he’s managed to do is slow her down a bit. The mages are being tortured to death, and are due for total liquidation in the very near future. But even that is too much for Meredith. The Templars regard Orsino as ‘a menace’ simply for winning his people a few small liberties – liberties of which, by Act 3, they seem to have again been stripped.

Elthina doesn’t give a shit about Orsino or the mages. You know how I know this? Because past a certain point, inaction is in itself a declaration of support. If you’ve got two friends, and they’re arguing about who gets to drink the last beer in the fridge, you can say ‘I’m just going to stay neutral, and let you two sort it out’. But if one of your friends picks up a rock and bashes the other’s skull in, then disposes of the corpse to obscure the evidence and makes up a story about how your now-dead friend was a dangerous criminal and had to be killed, and is awarded medals and accolades for it … and you stand there and watch, and say nothing, and do nothing, then you have sided with the murderer. You are protecting them, and keeping their secrets, and doing nothing to either help or get justice for the victim.

The thing is, Meredith doesn’t need Elthina to side with her. She is not in need of help. She is the de facto Viscount of Kirkwall. She is Knight-Commander of the Kirkwall Templars. She’s not only been brutalising the mages, but attacking the citizens of Kirkwall as well. She can, and does, do whatever the fuck she wants. Elthina standing in the middle of the street and yelling ‘Meredith is right about everything!’ wouldn’t actually change the situation much.

Orsino does need Elthina. He’s not some willful child who just can’t get along with his sister. He is a desperate man struggling to protect people who effectively have no legal rights from a woman who enjoys watching them suffer. He needs Elthina to face down Meredith. He needs her to write to the Divine to plead for their lives. He needs Meredith removed from power. He needs protection and care for his people. He needs these things, not as some ‘hardline’ anti-Chantry position, but just to live.

Elthina does not care about him or his people.

Now – she might care about Meredith. I’m fairly convinced she only cares about people insofar as she can use them (Sebastian included – Elthina has a prince in her direct service, remember), but she has been able to use Meredith, so she might care about her. That’s … not really a point in her favour, though.

Let’s backtrack a bit here, shall we? This is tricky, because we’ve mostly got Chantry sources to work with, and they don’t come right out and say what they’ve done. But the criminal partnership of Grand Cleric Elthina and Meredith Stannard is a long one.

Records indicate that Elthina was born in a small village nestled in the Vimmark Mountains just south of Kirkwall. When she was just a little girl, both her parents contracted a terrible fever that took them both. Elthina never caught the illness, thanks to a kindly neighbour who cared for her while her parents were sick. When her parents died, the neighbour’s husband refused to continue paying for the upkeep of the orphan child, and Elthina was given to the Chantry. She became a lay sister as a girl and, when she came of age, was given the choice to leave the Chantry or take an initiate’s vows. Elthina chose to stay. When she was twenty, she moved south, to Kirkwall, and became a revered mother at the chantry there.

World of Thedas II

That’s Elthina’s backstory. Note that she came from nothing: an orphan and a pauper. And yet her rise is incredible. By twenty she is revered mother of one of the largest cities in the Free Marches. Note that ‘revered’ means she’s actually responsible for the Kirkwall chantry, not just holding the rank of ‘mother’ like Petrice. This is a woman of drive and ambition. These are not bad things in themselves, of course. But they are noteworthy things. They demonstrate that Elthina is not weak willed or retiring by nature. She’s clawing her way up the Chantry hierarchy as quickly as she’s able.

Now, unfortunately, the way the Chantry works puts a bit of a roadblock in her career there. No further to climb until the boss kicks the bucket. And so the next point of interest …

Following the death of her predecessor, Elthina was appointed grand cleric of the Free Marches by Divine Beatrix III.

World of Thedas II

Not surprising, perhaps, but noteworthy still, because it reminds us where Elthina owes her favours. Now we get to the meat of it.

In 9:21 dragon, Divine Beatrix commanded that the Kirkwall Templars force the Viscount to allow Orlesian ships through the Waking Sea passage. Knight-Commander Guylian was against it.

It is not our place to interfere in political affairs. We are here to safeguard the city against magic, not against itself.

– History of Kirkwall: Chapter 4

However, there was a certain knight-captain who was not so scrupulous, and who was poised to take command of the Templars:

When Guylian gave a command, it was Meredith who enforced it. Her drive and her devotion to her duty made her a bit of a legend among her fellow Templars, and privately, many thought she possessed a hundred times the old knight-commander’s charisma. Many said that it was Meredith who was really the leader of the Templars, despite her junior rank.

World of Thedas II

The official story is that Viscount Perrin Threnhold hired mercenaries, who stormed the Gallows and publicly hanged Guylian.

Maybe he did. But. It’s a bit convenient, isn’t it? A man who did not want to fight the Viscount was abruptly replaced by a woman who absolutely did want to fight the Viscount. And he wasn’t just replaced. These mercenaries didn’t do anything sensible, like capture and hold the Gallows, or get hold of all of the Templars’ top officers, or gain control of the lyrium supply – you know, stuff you might do if you were actually trying to beat the Templars. No, they lynched the knight-commander, right out in public, and apparently left every other Templar free to retaliate. Now that they had the justification to do whatever they wanted.

Note that the mercenaries disappear from the story at this point. We don’t know who they were or what happened to them.

Interesting, isn’t it, that a Grand Cleric appointed by Beatrix resides in Kirkwall? Orders for the region would naturally filter through her. Likewise, the Knight-Commander would have first brought his protests to her.

In any case, the Templars stormed the Viscount’s Keep and Perrin Threnhold was arrested.

He was tried and imprisoned three days later by Grand Cleric Elthina and died from poisoning two years later.

– Knight-Commander Meredith

Three days? That’s quick, for deposing the ruler of a city. And with what, exactly, was he charged? This all happened because he opposed the Orlesian empire, and because the Templars were themselves going to war with the Viscount. We don’t know. We only know that Grand Cleric Elthina personally had him imprisoned. Then he died.

Also convenient, isn’t it, that he died mysteriously? Who would have motive to keep him from talking? Or, who might be concerned that he might be able to retake power? How about the people now ruling the city?

Because that’s what happened.

Following Threnhold’s arrest, Grand Cleric Elthina appointed Meredith as the new knight-Commander. At Knight-Commander Meredith’s strong suggestion, a new viscount was chosen: a man named Marlowe Dumar.

World of Thedas II

Meredith’s service to the Grand Cleric, the Divine and the Orlesian empire was rewarded. She was given the top job in the Templars. The Chantry effectively had control of the city. Meredith cemented that control by finding them a convenient puppet.

Look at who has benefited from this scenario. The Kirkwall chantry is wealthy and influential. Its large Templar presence ensures it is able to maintain its hold on the city.

Elthina has gained quite the reputation for ‘managing’ the Templars:

People frequently turn to her to mediate disputes—particularly those involving the powerful Templar Order, over whom she holds authority as the Chantry’s ranking representative.

– Grand Cleric Elthina

That sounds nice, until you remember that she appointed Meredith to her role, and that the Templars are ruling the city. There shouldn’t really be disputes with the Templar Order. They are empowered (however little I may like it) to take mages to the Circle, and to hunt apostates. They should not be interfering with the general populace at all. Of course they are. Meredith was selected precisely because she was willing to interfere, and she has kept on doing so. Elthina’s reputation is thus one long con. She has been smoothing over those occasions when her knight-commander (and partner in crime) stepped on a few too many noble toes.

And Meredith?

For now, she enjoys the grand cleric’s full support and has free rein in Kirkwall as the commander of its most powerful military force.

– Knight-Commander Meredith

Meredith has, all these years, enjoyed Elthina’s full support. Not just in her role as the boss of the Kirkwall Circle, but as Kirkwall’s military leader. Elthina has backed Meredith every step of the way, since she took control of Kirkwall.

That’s an almost pre-red lyrium Codex entry, from the very first time you meet Meredith. Elthina is worried now, because Meredith’s behaviour is becoming erratic. But prior to this, they have enjoyed a long and fruitful partnership. Whether Elthina cares about Meredith as a person is up for debate (she might!) but she certainly cares that Meredith is no longer doing her job as well as she once did.

So I’m sorry, but I don’t believe in sweet Grandma Elthina. Probably that was the writers’ intent, but either they wrote her very badly as a sweet old lady, or there’s some epic subversion going on here. Nothing I have seen in these games, or their Codices, or the supplementary material, has given me any reason to see Elthina as anything other than a manipulative, terrible person, who only works for her own advancement.

I don’t think of her as tragic, and I don’t mourn her death. She’s part of the problem. A bloody big part, at that.

Grey’s Anatomy: Stairway to Heaven
Heaven, hell, limbo. No one really knows where we’re going or what’s waiting for us when we get there. But the one thing we can say for sure, with absolute certainty, is that there are moments that take us to another place, moments of heaven on earth. And maybe for now, that’s all we need to know.

Misunderstandings & Missteps: Japril

(like something out of a goddamn Shakespeare play)

13x19 AU: When Arizona mistakenly guesses that Riggs is in love with April, instead of Meredith, things get complicated. Jackson makes a misstep that sends him reeling on what he really wants. Will Japril ever be able to find their way back to each other?

Chapter 1: Misunderstandings

13x24 - A Few Thoughts...

                      *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS!*

1) I am SO happy they did not kill off Edwards - the writers made the right choice here, she chose something else, she chose to heal herself rather than heal others. It was a beautiful send-off for a beautiful character. Amelia’s gonna be pissed though… Also “did you take the scenic route?” was a great one liner from her just to remind Warren one last time who is on top! Finally the song Dancing on My Own was the perfect fit - Edwards has lived her whole life in hospitals and then Dr Webber and Dr Shepherd were her mentors and now she needs to go and live her life, she needs to learn to dance on her own.

2) Megan is in the USA and Riggs is driving to be with her! This will be a love story for the ages! Meredith was so altruistic, she saw the bigger picture and knew: “If it were Derek, I would already be gone”. I have no complaints about how they dealt with Riggs being told by Mer; for once it was not all about her!

Debbie Allen said that in the finale all relationships will come to a head: either they will make it or break it. We already know that Benly and Catherine and Richard are safe. Mer and Riggs are new, based on spoilers they are "make it", "Alex makes decision about Jo, it can only be make as it is currently break it. That leaves Omelia and Japril. Considering that they will not do "make it" with everyone that puts them in danger! Pls. Shed some light!

I don’t think Benley are safe at all. They spent the season mostly in good terms and I think Ben’s condition with his residency will backfire and affect their marriage. Also, Ben needs to know where to go from here and he seems very indecisive.

Catherine and Richard IMO are “safe” because I doubt they will give any more screen time to discuss their relationship.

Meredith and Riggs: I think now, just as they are embracing the relationship and finally accepting their feelings, deciding to be together, etc, things will change. Riggs has been pursuing Meredith for the entire season and she has been hesitant. Now that she is finally on board (which is why I think they made sure to show Maggie being supportive of it on ep 22), I think Riggs will be the one to have doubts about them and what may cause it are Owen’s news from ep 23. So I am not sure they will end the season on a good note.

Jolex: After being pretty much ignored for the past seasons, I think they will at least take a step towards reconciliation. My guess is that Alex will reinforce he wants to be with Jo by whatever action he is taking regarding her ex husband.

Japril: such a mess. hard to believe they slept together, have a kid together, supposedly live together and nothing has been addressed about it. Unfortunately for Japrils, I think Jackson will sleep with Maggie. Ugh, I know. I don’t think it’ll turn into a long run thing but it could definitely be a set back in Japril’s story.

Omelia: I think Owen’s news will bring them closer together but won’t solve their problems and they will end the season on a better note but with a lot left to work on.

GREY’S ANATOMY, why can’t you have at least ONE COUPLE that doesn’t break up every 2 weeks for lack of communication? I would really like to see a couple working and struggling but being brought together while working on their issues instead of fighting and getting distant every time something happens.

Hi! Merthan story just for you :) Thank you for all messege, it really help me to write.

Thank you J. for help.

The sound of flushed water wasn’t the way Maggie wanted to start the day. When she received a message from Amelia, she thought that was a joke, but after all the asking, she met them there.

“Why did we need to meet here?” she asked.

“Because your sister has food poisoning and she can’t move from there for about 20 minutes.” Amelia answered.

“Meredith. Are you okay?”

“Yes. It’s because of the sandwich I ate.”

“Or…” Amelia started, “you’re pregnant again.”

Maggie and Amelia looked at the closed door. The sound wasn’t so loud and both of them were waiting for Meredith to respond. Maggie, after all that story with Nathan, got used to them being a couple. It was hard at the beginning, but now she wanted to be a rock for Meredith and her relationship. Both sisters were about to ask one more time when the door opened.

“I’m not pregnant.” Meredith answered. “I just ate this fucking sandwich.”

Mer made a few steps toward the sink, she was pale and her stomach gave a rare noise. She washed her face with cold water, after that she looked in the mirror. She can’t be pregnant, but if she is, that  will be the worst thing ever.

“What do you plan for Zola’s birthday?” Amelia asked to lighten the atmosphere.

“Ugh that. Don’t get me wrong. I would love to make her a big party, but this year, she wanted two parties. One for the family and one for friends.”

“We’re  the family, right?” Maggie asked.

“Well, sort of. She wanted to make a party for me, Ellis and Bailey. The second one is for everyone else.”

“Okay. So we’ll help you.”

“Thank you.” Meredith answered.

                                                          ********

Nathan was standing in front of the ladies bathroom. He knew that he looked like a fool, but after he saw Meredith running here, he just get worried. They were a couple for only a few months, but he cared about her more than about anyone else. Nathan was just about to leave when the door opened, and he saw Amelia, Maggie and Meredith leaving the room.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

“Yes. Food poisoning.” she gave him a small smile.

“So the date is off, I guess.”

“Yes, so sorry. I need to prepare two birthday parties. We can meet next week. Zola’s party will be on Saturday and the other on Sunday.”

“You didn’t tell me it’s Zola’s birthday.”

“Yeah. This Friday. She will turn 8 years old.”

“Can I give her a present? Or I can make a party for her? I’m very good at parties.”

“You really want to?” Meredith smiled.

“Yes. I would love that. If she want to of course.”

“Maybe you could come to our house today and ask?” Meredith said, “ Bailey would love to play with you as well.”

“Awesome. See you later!” he kissed her cheek.

Meredith was standing there for a moment, she turned and went to her sisters. Now when everything was good, she could focus on her patient.

                                          *********

The house was lit with small lights. The door was already open when he got out of his car. He brought something for all the kids, but he was really worried about Zola’s reaction. He was just a guy who is dating her mother, and even he wasn’t sure how it works for them.

“Is anyone home?” he knocked at the door.

“Uncle Nathan!!!” he heard Bailey’s voice from the kitchen.

“Hi, mate. How are you?”

“I’m good. We’re baking birthday cake for Zola, but we will probably order one.”

“Why?”

“Because mommy can’t bake. She burned the second one already.”

“Maybe we go in there and help?” Nathan took Bailey’s hand.

The kitchen was a mess. Flour, milk and sugar were all over the place, the small sugar roses were smashed on the floor and in the middle of that was Meredith with a bowl filled with eggs and water. He was sure she was looking for egg shells there.

“Hi, babe. Maybe you need help?” he asked, smiling.

“Yes, oh God yes. Please tell me that you can bake cakes?”

“I’ll tell you for a kiss.”

Meredith waited for him to come closer, she didn’t want to make any more damage in her kitchen and she was sure that one of the birthday candles is near her feet. Nathan took a step toward her, careful not to smash anything on the way. When he came near her, she put her hands on his neck, she stood at her toes and gave him a hot kiss.

“So, let me do it for you.”

“Yes, please. I will go to check how the kids are and will be right back.”

“Don’t. I mean, I can handle it.”

After two hours of baking and cleaning, the kitchen looked much better than before. He cleaned the dishes, the cake was baked and he was just about to put a frosting on it when Zola came in. She sat on the chair in front of him in silence.

“Hi, Zola. I made you a cake and was just about to ask you what frosting do you want.” he smiled.

She didn’t say a word, her brown eyes were looking  at him and, unlike her brother and little sister, she wasn’t happy about his visit.

“You will never be my daddy. My daddy died and you will never be him.”

“I know that. I’m not trying to be your dad, I just want to make your birthday special.” he answered.

“I don’t want you here! I want my daddy!” she yelled.

“Zola!” Meredith shouted. “apologize to Nathan now!”

“I won’t. He is not my dad, he should be dead, not daddy! I want my daddy!!” she cried. “I want my dad to be at my birthday! Not him!” she screamed, running from the kitchen.

“I’m so sorry. I didn’t know she would act like that. I’ll talk with her.”

“Let me, please.” Nathan took steps to the door.

“Are you sure? I don’t want you to be sad about what she said.”

“Yes. I’m sure. You can ice the cake if you want.”

Nathan took a step and almost immediately turned back. He kissed Meredith’s forehead and after that changed his mind.

“Or just leave it. I’ll make it when I get back.”

“You think I can’t handle it?” she asked.

“No, babe. It’s because we don’t have ingredients to bake another one.” he grinned, leaving the kitchen.

                                        **********

All the thoughts started to run through his head when he was in front of Zola’s door. He knew she suffered more than anyone, Derek was her father, she is old enough to miss him and also feel betrayed by her mother because she’s seeing someone else. Nathan took a deep breath and knocked the door.

“Zola. Can I come in?” he asked.

The silent sound of crying got his attention, he gently pushed the door. She was laying on her bed with the plush bear wearing doctor’s scrubs. He sat on the edge of the bed. He wasn’t ready for this at all.

“I was 10 years old when my dad died. I didn’t know why he didn’t come home. I was mad and sad at once, all the time. I thought that my mother betrayed me and my dad by marrying another guy.” he looked at his hands, “he was my whole world and after his death, I had to build my world again. Alone.”

“Did you like the husband of your mother?”

“Not really. He tried. He gave me presents, never forgot about my birthday, but he wasn’t my dad. He gets that, just like I get it. I promise you that I’ll never want to replace your dad. Never. You have my word.”

“I didn’t mean to. I didn’t mean to say all those things. I really wanted to spend my birthday with dad. He always said that I’m his princess.” she sobbing.

“You will always be your dad’s princess.” he held her hand. “I just want to ask you for a chance. I never had children. I don’t know how to be a friend for you and your siblings. I really want to be.”

“You’re doing good. At least my mom isn’t burning the kitchen.” she smiled.

“That’s true. You want to choose frosting for your cake or must I leave you alone here?”

Zola sat on her bed, her eyes were a bit red and her dress was crumpled. She turned to Nathan and let him give her a big, strong hug. They went down the stairs straight to the kitchen.

“Mommy. I’m sorry.” Zola hugged her. “I didn’t mean to.”

“You should apologize to Nathan as well.”

“She already did.” he smiled to Zola.

“Can I choose the frosting?”

“Of course.” Nathan answered. “you can also help me ice it, if you want.”

“Yes. I want pink and blue.”

“Like a princess dress?” Nathan looked at Zola.

“Like a princess dress.” she smiled.

                                          ********

They were both so tired, cake, presents and laughter filled the room for almost 2 hours. After cleaning and putting kids to sleep, the only thing they wanted was sleep. They sat on a couch next to each other. Meredith put her head on his shoulder, she was so tired that even sitting straight was too much for her.

“I need to tell you something. Before you hear the rumors.” she started with her eyes closed.

“Do I need to worry?” Nathan asked.

“I think not, but it was a long day so I’m not hundred percent sure.”

Nathan opened his eyes and looked at her, he kissed her head and surrounded her with his arm. After that day, he was ready for every situation.

“Everyone thinks I’m pregnant with you, but I’m not.”

“Ugh. Even if you were, I think it wouldn’t be a problem. I would help you with everything I can.”

Meredith sat straight, her eyes became bigger, she never thought that Nathan was that kind of guy. Of course she thought about how supportive he can be, but now she was sure.

“I love you.” she said.

“I love you too.” he answered.

Meredith was kneeling in front of the toilet for almost twenty minutes. She was already tired of returning all the food she ate. Mer put her head on her hands and tried not to think about what that day would bring to her. Her relationship with Nathan was a mess, after Megan returned everything changed. She didn’t even know if they were together. Meredith opened her eyes after a moment. She felt another part of nausea coming to her.

***

Amelia was standing in front of the bathroom for some time. She heard all of it. She and Mer should be on their way to work already. Amelia tried to avoid coming into her sister-in-law’s way, but she couldn’t be late. Again.

“Meredith are you okay?” she asked softly.

“Yes. Give me a sec.”

“We are already late.” Amelia looked at the door.

“We can go now.” Meredith said, opening the door.

“God. Are you sure you can go to work today?” Amelia said, worried.

“It’s just a flu or food poisoning, I think.”

“Well, you look…bad.”

“I feel like shit, to be honest, but I can’t stay. Owen will be with his sister and Nathan…”

“You and Nathan…?”

“Me and Nathan… it’s complicated. We need to go now.”

“Mer…is it possible that it’s not the flu?” Amelia asked.

Meredith’s eyes became bigger, she didn’t even think about the possibility of being pregnant. They tried to be careful, but she could remember herself their wild nights. She tried not to think about it and focused on survived that day.

Meredith looked at Amelia and tried to remember herself when they were so close like now. Meredith took her jacket and gazed at the brunette.

“I need to take a test.” she looked at Amelia, “can you help me, when you have some time today?”

“Yes.” she answered, squeezing her arm.

****

Meredith was sitting in the cafeteria when Amelia sat in front of her. They had already taken a blood test and all Mer could think about was the result.

“They’ll make it quick, maybe at the end of the day.”

“End of the day!”, Mer shouted, “that’s not quick at all.”

“Well. Second option was two weeks from now.”

“Sorry. You helped a lot. Thank you.”

“No problem.” Amelia looked at Mer’s plate. “What are you eating?”

“Chocolate cake. Well, third slice, but I’m hungry.” she shrugged.

“Mer, I think we already know the result.” Amelia said, looking at her.

Meredith looked straight into Amelia’s eyes, she knew that too, she was pregnant with the baby of a guy whose fiance was found on the desert. Meredith closed her eyes trying to calm her nausea. The best part of it was that she would have surgery soon which might make her busy, the worst part was the surgeon who assisted her. Soon she would be in the same room with the father of her potential baby.

****

The surgery lasted for about two hours now, even though it had helped, Meredith’s distraction wasn’t disappearing. She tried to focus on what she was doing, but Nathan wasn’t helping at all.

“Do you have plans for today?” he asked.

“No, not really.” she answered politely. “How is Megan?”

“Good. I mean she needs to get used to a normal life. Owen helps her a lot.”

“And…you? Does she remember you?” she asked him, looking at her patient.

“Yes. She remembers everything. Even the fact that I cheated on her, so…”

“So sorry to hear that.” her stomach took a turn.

“It’s okay. The most important thing is she’s alive, safe and that she is with her family.”

Meredith looked at him once more, his light blue eyes were shining, she was happy and sad at one seeing him like that. Megan was the love of his life, she had disappeared and now came back. She closed her eyes for a moment, knowing that he was already taken, even if he didn’t know that yet. Meredith opened her eyes and after a moment she felt like her head was spinning. Her body shivered and she couldn’t help it. Meredith looked at Nathan, but he was a blurr. The last thing she remembered was the light of surgery room and the pain in the back when she hit the floor.

****

The room was too bright for her, even if she was already awake, her body and eyes wanted to sleep. She looked around at the room, she was connected to machines which monitored her. At once she remembered herself what happened in surgery room, after a moment the door opened slowly.

“How are you feeling?” Amelia asked.

“Good, I think. How is my patient?”

“Nathan took care of him.” she smiled, “I have the results.”

“I’m pregnant.” Meredith said.

“You’re pregnant.” Amelia nodded. “Are you…are you and Nathan?”

“Like I said before it’s complicated. I don’t know if we are a couple. I don’t know if he wants to be with me or Megan. I can’t tell him.”

“You must tell him. He has the right to know.”

“Even if he wants to be with Megan? You didn’t see him when I told him about her. He was so happy.”

“You think he won’t be happy if he finds out that you are pregnant?”

“He will, but I want to wait and see if Megan….”

The door opened with a click, Nathan looked straight at Meredith.

“Are you alright? I was worried, no one has ever passed out by just talking with me.” he smiled.

“You can tell yourself that this was the reason.”

“I need to go, I have things to do.” Amelia said, looking at them flirting.

Meredith tried not to look at him, he was worried about her and it was even harder. She should just ask him, a simple question could help her get the truth. The problem was, she didn’t want to ask him to choose. She was afraid that he chose Megan and that could break her heart.

“Did you take the tests?”

“It’s just the flu or food poisoning.”

“I wanted to talk to you, that’s why I asked what you’re doing tonight.”

“Oh. Okay.”

“If you want to and are feeling better.”

“Yes. We need to talk. 8pm? My place?” Mer proposed.

“Yes. See you then.”

After he left Meredith felt that again, she was afraid of what he wanted to say. She was afraid that another baby would be raised without the father. Meredith took a deep breath and put her hand on her belly.

“We will see how it goes.” she caressed it gently.

*****

Meredith was sitting on the sofa when she heard the doorbell. After she left the hospital with the results in her hand, the thoughts were running through her head. Now, when she knew a hundred percent she was pregnant, she was even more scared. Her kids, Amelia and Maggie were at the cinema so the house was half empty. She stood up, took a few steps toward the door, Mer took a deep breath and opened the door.

“Hi!” Nathan started.

“Hi. Come in.”

“I have something for you.” he gave her red tulips.

“Thank you.” she felt tears in eyes. “Fucking hormones.” she whispered to herself.

“You said something?” he asked.

“No. You want something to drink?”

“Meredith, the thing with Megan…”

“Coffee?” she tried to leave the room.

Nathan grabbed her wrist and pushed her gently so she needed to sit on the sofa. He touched her cheek and started to talk.

“I want to say that Megan and I….that we….she doesn’t want me. She went through too much that she isn’t ready for any relationship. Especially with me.”

“I’m so sorry.” Meredith said.

“Don’t be. I didn’t come here to talk about it. I’m here because I want to know if you still want to build something with me.”

Meredith looked into his eyes, he was honest, she knew that. Her head spinned again, she closed her eyes to calm herself. When she opened them, Nathan stared at her.

“I need to tell you something. I don’t know how to say that and it’s so freaking hard that I don’t know how to start.”

“Mer, just tell me.” he squeezed her hand.

“I did a test today. I know why I passed out.”

“Mer, in a minute I will have heart attack. Just tell me.”

“I’m…I know it’s too soon…I don’t know if you want this…” she paused, looking at him, “I’m pregnant.”

Nathan’s eyes never been bigger, he took a deep breath and after seconds he started to laugh. He laughed so hard that Meredith was wondering if he was okay.

“Are you okay?” she asked confused.

“Oh God yes! I was waiting for Megan to come back for almost ten years. I thought that it would be the only thing that made me happy. I thought that I would never have a family, friends or a baby. Now you are telling me that amazing news. I’m so happy that we will have a baby!!” he touched her belly.

“I was so scared. I didn’t want to make you choose between me and Megan. It wouldn’t  be fair.”

Nathan got closer to her, touched her cheek and after seconds their lips connected in sweet kiss. He put his hand on her stomach again. Nathan got closer to it and said:

“You don’t know me, but I’m your dad. We will play soccer or I will drive you to dance classes.”

Meredith listened to those words, all the scary feelings she had disappeared like a bad dream. She caressed his hair when he talked to their unborn baby. Mer found herself on the sofa. She knew that their future will be filled with ups and downs, they had each other, they had kids and what was most important, the past was already behind them.

“Protect Her” - Stiles Stilinski

(not my gif)

REQUEST: Stiles and his little sister are running to hide and Stiles is behind (Y/N) and as she goes to cross the corner, Stiles hears something and grabs her, pinning her against his chest with his arm wrapped around her shoulders and he holds her protectively.

The plan had gone totally wrong and Stiles and (Y/N) - his younger sister, were now locked in Eichen House. The original plan was to get into Eichen House to talk to Meredith, but as Stiles and (Y/N) were walking down the corridor, a loud alarm went off.
“What’s happening?” (Y/N) said a little worried.
Stiles knew this place was as evil as it could get, especially on the floor where all the supernatural creatures were locked up. Although he tried to remain calm, (Y/N) could see a hint of concern in her brother’s eyes.

Even if (Y/N) was only two years younger than Stiles, he had always been extremely protective of her. So when (Y/N) had the idea to go to Eichen House to get some answers, Stiles refused to let her go alone, he even insisted to go without her. The reason why (Y/N) wanted to talk to Meredith was because she had been experiencing strange things lately and Deaton told her Meredith could help, though he didn’t recommend her to go and see her in Eichen House. But (Y/N), who was tired of hearing voices no one else could hear, was determined to get some answers.
Scott also insisted to go to Eichen House with Stiles and (Y/N) but he knew he wouldn’t be able to go very far because of wolfsbane blocking the access to the supernatural floor, so he wouldn’t be much help. Instead, Scott was waiting outside the building with Liam.

When Scott received a call from Stiles, he knew something had gone wrong.
“What’s going on in there? Are you guys okay?” Scott asked, worried. He wasn’t a big fan of this plan.
“Can you hear what the doctors are saying from where you stand?” Stiles asked quickly.
Scott didn’t ask any questions and focused. He closed his eyes and used his werewolf hearing to hear what the doctors were saying inside. Liam watched him carefully.
A few seconds later, Scott opened his eyes and put his phone back against his ear.
“Someone escaped.” Scott told his best friend.
“Someone like me,” Stiles started, “or someone like you?” He asked, referring to Scott’s supernatural being.
“Someone worse than that.” Scott replied. “The doctors sounded very worried. I think whoever escaped their cell is dangerous. You guys need to leave, now.” Scott sounded pretty worried, too.
“How the hell are we supposed to leave this place? All the doors are locked.” Stiles said, concerned.
“Find a way out, Stiles. You and (Y/N) can’t stay in there.” Scott declared.

Stiles hung up the phone and took a deep breath. (Y/N) didn’t take her eyes off her brother, expecting bad news.
“How screwed up are we?” (Y/N) asked Stiles.
“We gotta get out, now.” Stiles grabbed (Y/N)’s arm and led her into an empty and dark room.
“Wait. We need to find Meredith. We won’t get another chance.” (Y/N) stopped in her tracks.
“We’ll find something else. Now, keep your voice down.” Stiles said as he thought he heard something near by.
“I didn’t come here for nothing, I need to-”
Stiles didn’t let her finish. He put his hand on (Y/N)’s mouth as he whispered a “shhh”. But (YN) jerked his hand away immediately.
“You can stay here, but I’m gonna go find Meredith.” (Y/N) said angrily.

As (Y/N) was about to walk out of the dark room into the corridor, Stiles grabbed her arm and pinned her against his chest. A second later, (Y/N) heard a unhuman scream which echoed through the walls. She carefully tried to take a look to see where this awful sound was coming from. She saw a terrifying creature being pinned down by several doctors. (Y/N) looked away and grabbed Stiles’s arm which was wrapped around her shoulders, holding her securely.
Stiles noticed that (Y/N) was shaking so he held her tighter in his arms, trying to reassure her.
“It’s okay (Y/N), I’m here.” Stiles whispered in her ear.
(Y/N) nodded but couldn’t stop shaking.
“There! That will sedate him for a while.” One of the doctor said. “Let’s put him in the isolated cell.” He added. “And tell Rozek to turn the damn alarm off! It’s giving me a headache.” One doctor said to another as they all left the corridor.

(Y/N) took a deep breath. Stiles finally let go of her.
“Are you alright?” Stiles asked.
“Yeah. Thanks” (Y/N) replied. “And thank you for, you know, protecting me.” She added.
“Always. That’s my job as your annoying big brother to make sure you’re safe.” Stiles smiled and kissed (Y/N)’s forehead.
Stiles and (Y/N) came out of the room and walked into the corridor, where the doctors and the awful creature were a few minutes ago.
“Come on, let’s go find Meredith.” Stiles said.
Stiles didn’t always agree with his sister’s plans, but he was always willing to help her out. So if (Y/N) wanted to go and find Meredith, that’s what Stiles was going to do.
“No, it’s okay. Let’s just get out of here.” (Y/N) declared. She shivered as she thought about spending one more minute in this place.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah. We’ll find another plan. Let’s just leave this nut house.” (Y/N) stated.
“How are we gonna do that though? The whole building is still under lockdown.” As Stiles was speaking, (Y/N) noticed something on the floor. She picked it up and saw that it was a doctor’s badge.
“There is no way we’re going through those doors.” Stiles finished as he pointed at the locked and metal doors.
“Not without this.” (Y/N) smiled as she held the badge before Stiles’s eyes.
“How did you-” Stiles started.
“One of the doctors must have dropped it while they were trying to control whatever was that creature.” (Y/N) explained. “Come on. Let’s go.”

Stiles and (Y/N) discreetly made their way out of Eichen House, using the badge to unlock every door, and joined Scott and Liam, who were waiting outside by the Jeep.
“Glad to see you two safe and sound.” Scott said, relieved.
“Yeah. Though I told you guys, two Stilinskis in a nut house sounds like trouble to me.” Liam declared with a chuckle.
Both (Y/N) and Stiles rolled their eyes at the same time.
“Thanks buddy. Though we’re not the ones who fell in a hole while going on a little walk into the woods.” Stiles said as he winked at Liam.
Scott and (Y/N) laughed.
“Ha-ha. Very funny.” Liam said as he rolled his eyes.
Stiles, Scott and (Y/N) kept laughing as they all got into the Jeep. Liam, who couldn’t pretend to be annoyed for too long, joined them in their laughter. And together, they drove back to Scott’s house, trying their best not to think about what was going to happen next and what other supernatural creature they will have to face next in the crazy town that was Beacon Hills.

I groan loudly when I awaken, Calum’s warmth pressed against my side as his soft snores fill the room. I curl against his broad frame, lying my head on his chest to let his heartbeat lull me back to sleep. I sense the shift in his breathing and I freeze when his arm curls around me and presses me closer to him.

“Morning.” He mumbles, eyes still closed while he stretches his strained muscles.

“Good morning, did you sleep well?” I sigh, throwing my leg over Calum’s midsection to absorb more of his warmth. “Amazingly.” Calum slowly opens his eyes and grants me a soft smile.

“At what time do we have to be at yours?” I question as I roll on my back and glance at my alarm clock to see we had spent all morning in bed. “At three. What time is it?”

“Almost one. I should get ready.” I chuckle, turning towards Calum who had rolled over and was peppering my shoulder with butterfly kisses.

“I should leave soon too. I don’t give a shit what Mer says, you’re spending the night. Luke and Ashton are also staying.” Calum taps my bum for emphasis before he rolls out of bed.

“I’ll see you later then?” I sit up straight, tucking my duvet closer to my body as I watch Calum get dressed.

“Of course babe. And after this you’ll get your present from me.” Calum winks as he crawls back onto the bed, his lips roughly pressed to mine, drawing a moan from my parted lips.

He presses me down onto the matters, hips rolling against mine. His hands grip my thighs roughly and I let my hands wander towards his recently buttoned jeans.

“No, no Y/n. Tonight I’m all yours.” Calum chuckles against my lips before he crawls off of the bed again and disappears from my bedroom.

*************

Somehow I’m reluctant for tonight. But on the other hand, I’m rather excited because this friendship Christmas is something Meredith and I used to do since we were little girls with no money to spend, when we would craft small things for each other to give instead of spending heaps of money.

My makeup is done, I’m dressed and about to step into my heels, ready to leave for the Hood residence. Meredith’s present is already with Calum, so all I have to grab is my gift for secret Santa… And this year I drew Michael. I was fairly glad with him because I know all he loves to do is game when he’s not with Meredith, so a new game was the first and last thing that popped into mind.

Within two hours since Calum had left I was ready to depart and be just in time so Meredith won’t freak out. The drive is short, per usual and before I know it my heels are clicking as I walk past the side of the house to the back door. I can already see Meredith run around, probably stressing to get everything ready in time – although I know she was ready with a lot of time to spare – Michael lounging around on the kitchen chairs and Luke is present as well.

I push the door open and immediately I am greeted by a chorus of hello’s, Meredith waving dramatically as she disappears from sight again. “You also staying?” Michael asks as he sees the duffel I’m dragging along with me and I nod my head as I lean down to press my cheek to both boys’.

“Wine and driving aren’t two things I like combining. How are you guys?” I smile as I get my secret Santa gift out of my bag and already start for the living room, hearing their response while I walk away from them. “Hi Mer. Lovely what you’ve done here.” I smile at her as I step into the living room, seeing the beautiful table decoration she had placed along with an amazingly big tree.

“Hi babe. Thanks. It’s been so hectic. Oh, are you staying?” She smiles as her arms curls around my shoulders for a brief hug, eyes first cast on my duffel bag near the door. “Yeah, maybe. If it gets too late or anything.” I smile, stepping out of her embrace and picking my bag up again.

“I’ll just drop this off real quick, then I’ll help you with any appetizers or whatever.” I hear Meredith hum in agreement but I’m already out the door and up the stairs.

I pass Calum’s room without a second thought and drop my bag on the comfiest bed in the whole house – in my honest opinion. Luke and Ash can room together in the smaller one, for all I care.

“I just knew you wouldn’t be ready yet.” I laugh as I peek my head inside Calum’s room, seeing him bare chested and digging in his closet for a shirt to wear. He laughs before he turns around and beckons me inside, pointing towards his closet.

“A bit of help is in order.” I roll my eyes and walk in and straight to his mess he calls a closet. “Hi by the way.” Calum breathes and I chuckle as I start skimming through his clean shirts. “Yes, Hi Cal. Long time no see.” I smile up at him as I hold a blue button up in front of his chest, nodding my head in confirmation. “This, I love this colour.”

“Thank you.” Calum grins and he presses his lips briefly to mine before he hurriedly walks to his bedroom door. “I’ll see you in five, I don’t want to anger Meredith even more.” Calum laughs loudly before he disappears from my sight and I lazily walk out of his room as well, only to walk into a solid chest.

“Oh, Luke…” I chuckle awkwardly, trying to pass him as quickly as I can but he stops me.” Meredith asked me to come and get Calum but he seemed a bit occupied…”

“He just wanted help picking out a shirt…” I trail off, leaning against the wall as I try to avoid his gaze at all costs. “I never got a kiss when I helped him out…” I can hear the smirk in his voice and when I snap my head to his in utter panic, I see it’s definitely present.

"Luke I - please don’t tell Meredith I-“ I start rambling immediately, stepping closer to him to beg him on my knees if I have to. “Y/n…” he stops my rambling, his hand resting on my shoulder to shut me up completely.

"Your secret is safe with me. I wouldn’t want to fuck over my best friend, either.“ He smiles down at me, my rampage heartbeat slowing down and I feel my breath even out as well. "But I’m not saying it’s a smart idea.”

"Tell me about it. This is bringing so much stress along…“ I laugh humourlessly, rubbing my hands along my face before I take a step back. "Anyway, thank you. I appreciate it.” I shoot Luke a small but genuine smile before I start my way downstairs.

"Okay, all yours.“ I grin at Meredith as she pushes a plate of small biscuits in my hands. "Put this on the table will you?” Meredith looks tired, a lot more than you expected from just a day of preparations. I make a mental note to question her about it later. Ashton has arrived as well during my absence and I press my lips to his cheek in greeting.

"Lovely to see you again, Y/n.“ I grin brightly and set the small appetizers in front of him, dropping down beside him to have a nibble for myself. Luke and Michael join us and it doesn’t take long before Calum is present as well, joining the table filled with males as I wait for Meredith.

As she also joins, she doesn’t take her usual spot beside Michael but sits next to me, Luke on her other side. I throw a pointed look in her direction but she avoids my gaze all together. "I’m glad we did this. I’ve prepared multiple meals so I’m sure everyone will like something, right?” Meredith laughs as she points to the plates filled with all kinds of food, bottles of wine littering the table.

A few glasses of wine and all plates empty later, Meredith starts serving us her full course meal. By now I’m already incredibly full, but I keep shoving bite after bite past my lips because it’s so good.

“After this I need a break.” Luke chuckles as he rubs his stomach in content, a chorus of laughter following his statement.

"We could exchange gifts in the mean time?“ Meredith proposes and everyone stands abruptly, chairs screeching against the tiles. We start with Meredith since she organized this get together, Ashton having her gift. When Luke turns towards me I’m pleasantly surprised and I feel like a child on Christmas morning.

"I hope you like it; it was fairly hard to find a gift for you.” Luke chuckles awkwardly as he places the small wrapped box in my lap. The chuckle that passes my lips fade out as I let out a small gasp at the bracelet that lays limply in the box.

“Oh Luke that’s adorable, thank you.” I raise to my feet to wind my arms around his neck and press my lips to his scruffy cheek with a loud smack.

"That leaves you, Mikey.“ I grin as I turn towards him, gift in hand. Michael seems thrilled with his new game and he momentarily lifts me off of the floor as he hugs the oxygen from my lungs. "Well Y/n and I still have a gift for my sister.” Calum suddenly states and my mouth opens slightly when I realize he is right. I sort of forgot that we had gotten a gift for Meredith.

Calum walks up to me with the small box in hand and holds it out to me but I motion for him to give it. Meredith seems thrilled and the way her eyes flicker and glisten when she opens the small box I know we made the right choice. “Wow, this - this is beautiful.” She holds the necklace up to her chest and then I see her face contort.

"You know I had appreciated more if you fucking chipped in on mum and dads gift than getting me something so expensive? You’re unbelievable.“ My eyes widen as I glance towards Calum whose cheeks are flaming up like a wild spreading fire.

"You should be even fucking glad we got you something with the way you’ve been acting lately. God you’re a bitch.” Calum seethes as his hands ball into fists.

"It’s always the same with you! It’s always my fault but you don’t see how poorly you treat people!“ Meredith screams and I believe we are witnessing the breaking point of brother and sister. All of us are quiet as we watch the drama unfold.

"I don’t even see you as a human so I don’t know what you worry about.” Calum sounds so calm and collected. It’s enough for Meredith to burst into tears and disappear out of the living room. The boys keep silent and I slowly turn to them. “Seriously Calum? You couldn’t be a bit friendlier to you sister?” I raise an eyebrow and when he doesn’t respond, I sigh and disappear after my friend.

"Meredith, are you okay?“ I mumble as I push the door to her room open, seeing her lying on her bed, facing away from me. "No.”

“Tell me what’s wrong.” I state, sitting down on the edge of her bed.

“Calum.”

"That isn’t the actual reason. Something else is troubling you.“ I sigh, patting her leg as some form of comfort. She starts crying a bit more violently. I let her be.

After a few moments she sits up and rubs her makeup smeared eyes. "Michael and I have been fighting nonstop lately. I think he might be cheating on me."

I can’t suppress the small laugh that leaves my lips but I do shut myself up immediately after. “Michael is absolutely smitten with you I’m one hundred percent certain he would never do such a thing.” I turn towards her, tucking my left leg underneath my bum as I fold my hands in my lap. “What makes you think that, anyway?” I decide to pry more, hoping she’d open up a bit more and I could get this party back on track instead of this mess.

Meredith just groans and I roll my eyes, dropping my body onto her bed and lying like a starfish. “I have all night, you know.” I laugh, wriggling my body a bit to let her know I was getting more comfortable. I know she wanted to be alone, but I wasn’t going to let her be. Not this time.

“We haven’t slept together in weeks, maybe even months. He doesn’t even grant me a second look. And well you know we used to have a healthy sexual relationship.” Mer shrugs her shoulders and I can’t help but raise my eyebrows. “Have you thought about talking to him about it?”
“Well no because we’re constantly fighting!” Meredith raises her voice and I bite my lip to refrain myself from raising my voice as well.

“Meredith, no offense babe,” I start off, seeing her glare already in the corner of me eye, but I continue none the less, “have you ever thought about the fact that you’re a bit irritable lately and you’re not only fighting with Mikey but well – uh – with everyone?” I try to be as gentle in my word choice as I can muster, but I’ve never been good with words.

“You’re overreacting.” Meredith huffs and it makes me raise back up, leaning on my flat hands as I throw my raised eyebrow look in her direction. “You sure?”
“Okay yeah, I might be a bit irritable…” Meredith laughs and I bite my lip, shaking my head at how easy this suddenly went. “You know, just talk to Michael. And I advise you to talk to Calum and apologize to him in the morning, let him cool down. That present was from the both of us and he really wanted to get you a nice gift, you know?” I raise to my feet to get Michael so they could have their talk, and I could go and see if Calum was feeling alright.

“Yeah, I’m sorry. Thank you for the lovely present, Y/n. I’ll come down in a bit.” Meredith sighs as she starts rubbing the smeared mascara from underneath her eyes. “I’ll send Michael up, just talk.” I don’t wait for her to answer anything as I already descend down the stairs. I don’t find any of the boys inside but I hear their voice chime from the back terrace, their voices dying down when they see me appear in sight.

“Michael, I advise you to go and talk to your woman. It might solve a lot of our problems.” I breathe, my fingertips digging into the back of the chair Calum was occupying. His features look puzzled, but he gets up none the less and disappears inside. “Are you okay?” I sigh, squeezing Calum’s shoulder once. “I’m fine.”

“You know what? I’ll make us some drinks, I’m sure we can use some.” Ashton sighs, pushing himself up from the table but he stops in his tracks beside me. “Anything you fancy more?”
“I like coconut.” I grin, stepping around the table to let my bum fall on the wall edge of their terrace.

“Come here.” Calum motions me over and I let my gaze flick to Luke briefly before throwing Calum a confused look. He pats his lap and I raise to my feet but still keep at least a meter between us. “What about -?” I start but he shuts me up with a hiss and pulls me onto his lap. “I don’t give a fuck right now. Come and sit.” Calum groans and I throw my legs over his, arm thrown over his shoulders as I see Luke smirk in the corner of my eye.

Calum’s fingers are slowly trailing along my thigh, underneath my dress. He and Luke are having a conversation which I’m not involved with, my head lying on Calum’s shoulder as I feel myself drift up. The holidays are tiring. I sit up straight, eyes wide when I hear Ashton clattering utensils just a few meters away. I try to get up but Calum pulls me back down, his hot, plump lips pressed against my neck fairly quickly. “Stay.”

Ashton returns with a plateau filled with glasses of a pinkish liquid and ice cream. “I thought we could have dessert now, I don’t think Mikey and Meredith are coming down any time soon.” Ashton smirks, setting his plateau down and starts handing out a glass for everyone along with a plate with ice cream. “Thank you, such a gentleman.” I grin at him as he holds it out for me to take.

“You know, I’m ready to call it a night. This whole evening was a lot more tiring than I had expected.” Luke breathes as he shoves his now empty plate away from him, his wine glass filled with cocktail in his other hand, ready for a sip. I hum in agreement, wiggling in Calum’s lap – still – to make myself more comfortable.

“Indeed. It was nice having a Christmas with you but I’m knackered.” Ashton chuckles as he raises his glass for a toast, and all of us reciprocate by raising our glasses as well. It takes us five, maybe ten minutes for us to finish our drink. Luke and Ashton disperse towards their guest bedroom for tonight, leaving me alone with Calum who is still finishing his smoke. “Are you ready for your present, babe?”
