PSA ABOUT CUTTING POSTS
Now, let me start this miniature rant/announcement off by stating that I mean no harm by this post at all. It’s simply just something people should know, and I’m not targeting anyone in specific.
I’d like to talk about cutting your posts. When I say cutting your posts, I do not mean arguments or oppositional replies on a photoset or something else that is ooc. When I speak about this, I am specifically talking about roleplayers and their in character threads. Now I’m sure a lot of you can relate to scrolling through endless blocks of coloured (with the Xkit extension) or gray lines on your dashboard, scrolling and scrolling and scrolling until it feels like eighty years has passed and suddenly you’re an old man yelling at kids to get off the lawn. We’ve all seen it, maybe we’ve all done it a few times as well and it’s understandable. However, if you’re one of those people who do not cut their posts, please please please take this post into consideration.
Many people have slow laptops, slow internet, and many people are like me and have photoshop, youtube, four tabs of Tumblr open, and an incognito window open all at the same time, therefore causing our computers to slow down. When I’m forced to scroll past these blocks of lines, it causes my dashboard to become glitchy, and what ends up happening is my whole computer pauses and I have to force quit everything. Yeah, not fun especially if I have an unsaved reply that was deleted in the reboot. That said, a lot of the happenings could be prevented by users keeping one tab and only one tab open, but let’s face it. We’re all to busy on the internet to do that, and it’s called multitasking. Give us credit.
However uncut replies are also responsible for tons of other things such as annoyance, negative feelings, and a clogged dash. Three things nobody likes, and to think that it’s only three things amongst hundreds of other things that only make our roleplaying experience unenjoyable. I do understand that some people don’t know how to cut posts, or are afraid of losing the reply forever, or some are even on mobile and are unable to do it. To those of you that don’t know how to cut posts, it’s simple. There are tons of tutorials on various roleplay helpers, but all you do is highlight your previous reply and click delete on your keyboard. A proper and desirable post length is typically two reply lengths: your partners, and your most recent one. To those afraid of losing the reply forever, you wont. That’s why the tags exist so you can either name the thread, name the verse, and/or name the partner you’re roleplaying with and their character. Tumblr is very good about that. And, to those of you on mobile who cannot cut your posts, I suggest you save them as a draft and let your followers know that replies wont come until you’re able to cut them. The alternative to this is using the internet on mobile and manually cutting posts that way. It’s possible, and I have done it.
Cutting roleplay threads is such a simple thing to do, and it’s extremely respectful and handy for your followers and fellow roleplayers. Not only does it prevent a lot of frustration from scrolling past it, but it prevents a messy blog, a messy dash, and crashing computers. So please, I kindly ask you:
