I think people who don’t like Star Trek just don’t like it because it isn’t sexy.
Their uniforms are ridiculous, the phasers have a rather boring design, the aliens are dramatically funny looking or just humans with funny noses rather than the stylistically sleek way one expects from major SciFi programs, either exuding evil from every curve of their bodies, or exotically erotic.
It’s got a cheap cheesy look to it because the show isn’t really at all about the visual appeal in that sense–what the viewer should be paying attention to is the mood conveyed by the actors. But I love how dorky it is. You got to hand it to the cast, taking props and costumes as silly as these and creating Shakespearean drama that tackles the deepest questions about the human condition
Not everything needs to be sexy and Star Trek embraces awkwardness and normalizes it in such a lovely way
