Do you think that at one point James was like “Alex…” and both Alex and Alexandra turned their heads simultaneously and were like “Yes?” and then everyone burst out laughing, and then James started doing it on purpose always calling them even when he doesn’t really need anything, just to mess with them

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Alex Turner is an incredible singer, writer and musician, and he’s working with this girl Alex Semitone who [has an] very interesting sense of melody, tone and art. They came over one day with this song they’ve been working on, and it sounded exactly like this season of True Dectective. So I said let’s finish it up, and they brought over the multi-tracks, so we mixed it over here at Electromagnetic. And it’s a killing tune, I love Alex Turner, I hope to do a lot more things with him on down the road.

Alexandra Savior to release debut album, co-written and co-produced by Alex Turner

On her upcoming debut album Strange Portrait, Oregon-bred singer and songwriter Alexandra Savior grapples with questions of identity. With her first single “Mirage,” Savior sings from the point of view of Anna-Marie Mirage, an alter ego who “paints her teardrops on” and “sings songs about whatever the fuck they want”. Savior explores the gaps between her own identities through piercing lyrics that she delivers in a languid, world-weary voice and sets against a minimalist, noir-pop backdrop created with her collaborator, singer Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys, The Last Shadow Puppets), with whom she co-wrote nearly all of the songs; Turner produced the album with James Ford, who has worked with Arctic Monkeys, Jessie Ware, and Florence and the Machine, among others. The lush late-‘60s/early-'70s sound is the perfect backdrop for an affecting album that details the self-doubt that arises from being thrust into an industry where everyone seems perfect. “I think a lot of the album is about the social anxiety that’s followed me throughout my life,” she says. “The songs are me residing in that fantasy life where I am this perfect creature I’m supposed to be.”

NME: Alexandra Savior On Working With Alex Turner

Rising US singer-songwriter Alexandra Savior has told NME how she came up with new track ‘Shades’, a collaboration with Arctic Monkeys man Alex Turner and co-producer James Ford.

The track, which went online last week, was recorded during sessions for Savior’s forthcoming debut album (as yet untitled) in LA over the past year. Describing ‘Shades’, which is every bit as sultry as Turner’s recent material with Arctic Monkeys and Last Shadow Puppets, Savior said: “It was one of the last songs we wrote for the record, [and] came about more humorously than the others. We were desperate for an upbeat song and indulging in our single lives.”

She also painted a picture of the team’s minimal studio setup: “It was just us three, a wizard engineer by the name of Michael Harris, and occasionally bassist Zach Dawes. Alex played guitar and some bass because my playing is at an elementary level to say the least, and James played keys and rocked out hard on the drums. We’d sit together to try and find precious tones, and for a few of the solos I would sing into a synth or filtered mic and Al or James would mimic the melody.”

Ford, she added, “helped keep [in] some little knick-knacks, like screams and boings and begging and pleading, without confusing the listener or making me seem like I belong in a madhouse”.

Asked if there were ever any nerves while recording around the likes of Turner, Savior told us: “I did feel nervous the first week in the studio, not because of those big shots, but more with a feeling that I may suggest something irrelevant or detrimental because I had never recorded a record properly. But as I became more comfortable I was puppeteering James more than he preferred, I’m sure.”
