Carrier-Belleuse was the son of the famous sculptor, Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse. He studied under Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889) and Pierre-Victor Galland (1822-1892) at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and first exhibited work at the Paris Salon in 1875.
