Perhaps one of the strangest creatures ever to exist in Earth’s seas, Helicoprion had its bottom jaw arranged in a unique spiral pattern. Fossils of this shark fascinated two very different individuals: renowned Alaskan artist Ray Troll and Jesse Pruitt, a Iraq War veteran undergraduate. Together, along with a cadre of unconventional contributors, they solved the mystery surrounding this 270-million-year-old fossil, brilliantly told by author Susan Ewing in her new book, Resurrecting the Shark.
