listening to the Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack without the context of the show is like listening to the story of a boy who wants to preserve the legacy of his best friend because he cares so much about him and not enough about himself and he ends up having a mental breakdown because he cares too much about everything and it’s really cute and kinda depressing but still heartwarming
WATCHING DEAR EVAN HANSEN WITH CONTEXT IS LIKE BEING HIT BY A GODDAMN FREIGHT TRAIN AND LEARNING THAT THE SAME BOY IS A COMPLETE ANXIOUS LIAR AND HE BARELY EVEN CARED ABOUT THAT SUPPOSED BEST FRIEND AND HE ENDS UP HAVING A MENTAL BREAKDOWN THROUGH THE WHOLE SHOW BUT SOMEHOW…SOME F*CKING HOW…YOU STILL LOVE HIM AND ITS THE MOST DEPRESSING THING IN THE ENTIRE WORLD
K but can we talk about Alana for a sec? Please??? Alana has high functioning anxiety and it really bugs me when people push her to the side and say she’s annoying.
Yes, she did more harm than good when she released Evan’s letter but she was doing it to help people. That doesn’t excuse what she did, but at least we understand that she did it with good intentions.
Alana knows how it feels to be alone, which is why Connor’s suicide affected her so much. She also has a Waving Through A Window reprise which we need to talk about. Waving Through A Window is a song that captures the feelings of all of the characters. They all feel a little alone, and the fact that Alana sings a reprise of it shows that she feels more alone than some of the other characters.
Just please remember that Alana is an important complex character and that we shouldn’t push her away.
Also Kristolyn Lloyd is amazing and deserves more love
