For reference here are the screen time numbers per regular character.  For reference purposes Aladdin, Jasmine and Gideon were included despite not being regulars in this season.

The “6B” graph.  It does not include 6.11 because I wanted to make the half season graphs comparable across seasons so it makes more sense to split them 11 episodes per.

Please remember that screen time doesn’t necessarily reflect the importance of those characters to the story.  Adam rightly points out that Darth Vader has very little screen time in the original Star Wars movie and Rumple only has a couple of minutes of screen time in the pilot.

Earlier seasons and season 6 episodes can be found here.

Note:  Henry’s screen time for season 6 includes both Jared Gilmore and Andrew West.  Gideon’s Screen time does not include after he was turned back into a baby as the rules of this count say you must be capable of speech.

anonymous asked:

Aladdin the movie has Arabic and Indian influences (the place is modeled after Taj Mahal, Jasmine's tiger is named Raja, etc.) so do you think Naomi Scott was a good choice to play Jasmine?

nah that’s some bullshit

look, as someone who is also half-indian and half-white just like naomi, i would love to be excited about her getting such an iconic role, but it’s more important to look at all the ways this is basically disney’s giant cop-out as far as aladdin goes.

1. disney mixing middle eastern and south asian cultural influences for the animated movie was wildly contentious in its own right. what was the need? the arabian nights stories are middle eastern stories. india has no connection to them except if characters in the stories travel there or if people are discussing how the stories spread to other cultures.

2. the cultural representation is far from positive, trust me, like. ever notice how jasmine and aladdin both have Noticeably lighter skin tones than jafar and other villains? or wondered why jasmine is dressed the way she is when that is neither historically correct nor appropriate for her status, and has been deemed such a problem for real disney parks jasmine actresses that they have changed her outfit to no longer be as revealing? why is jasmine the only real female character? why are she, her father, and aladdin the only visibly brown characters in the film who aren’t exceptionally aggressive and uncaring?

3. the palace may be modeled after the taj mahal but the taj mahal was built by a mughal emperor and therefore was Heavily influenced by middle eastern architectural design. lots of mosques all over the arab world look a lot like it. the taj mahal itself has a mosque on its grounds. it’s not really a good indicator of indian influence.

anyway, on to naomi: she’s half-indian and can be considered brown at best, ethnically ambiguous at worst, so sure, she’s not the absolute most abysmal choice disney could have made. but she’s definitely not an interesting choice either, as far as her looks and ethnic heritage (she can sing beautifully and i think she’s a good actress so like, in her own right she’s great, no problems with her as a person or anything)

she’s tan but she definitely fits into eurocentric beauty standards without an issue

she’s half-white and was raised in the uk, so she’s not exactly the best representation for a person from a specific non-western culture, And Let Me Be Clear I Am Half White And Was Raised In America so i feel able to pass a certain amount of judgment on that. i know very little about indian culture and history, i would be a very poor choice for anyone looking to portray an indian born and raised in india, Especially for a period piece

and finally she’s not. middle. eastern. and jasmine most certainly should be, regardless of whatever ~indian influences~ disney had in their original cartoon. the princess badroulbadour (jasmine) comes straight out of middle eastern folklore and should be played by a middle eastern woman, and here is why: middle eastern actors are always faced with the stereotypes of terrorists and poor desert dwellers and greedy, violent, unfeeling people before they ever get to do anything like play a princess. we need to stop promoting those stereotypes.

tl;dr no i don’t, i would rather see her play ariel or a princess actually from indian history/culture than watch her be an unfortunate player in yet another game to keep arabs down and perpetuate the idea that all brown people are the same (but some are slightly less violent than others).
