I’ve been actively collecting Disney merchandise for 3 years.

I collect Disney princess merchandise. I know, you all are shocked. The princesses I have the most merchandise are the white princesses, surprise surprise. It’s not because I don’t collect Mulan, Tiana, Pocahontas, and Jasmine merchandise. I cannot find much merchandise for them so I have less of it. Merchandising is part of marketing. My collection is proof Disney favors the white princesses over the princesses of color. So I’m going to show you my merchandise, starting with the merchandise of Tiana, Mulan, Jasmine, and Pocahontas. I will note, not all the merchandise I own will be in this post. I also included Frozen merchandise since I collected that for a few months. I do collect more than just Disney princesses but this post is connected to the post I made earlier today about Jasmine, Tiana, Mulan, & Pocahontas

Tiana, Jasmine, Pocahontas, and Mulan Merchandise:

I included by Aladdin musical/broadway merchandise since I have so little merchandise for one of my all time favorite movies. I do have a Jafar lithograph with the picture of my lithographs.

Ariel, Merida, Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Frozen, Beauty & the Beast, & Rapunzel Merchandise:

I know, some people will be like “But there are more white princesses, of course you have more merchandise for them!!” I’ll even give you that if ALL the princesses had the same amount of merchandise made in the parks, Disney Store, hottopic, etc. However, they don’t. My Jasmine collection IS bigger than my Tiana, Mulan, and Pocahontas collections combined. The Little Mermaid is my all time favorite movie (flaws & all), so I do have more merchandise of Ariel than anyone else. I see something Ariel and I pretty much buy it on spot. The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs are my top 5 favorite Disney movies. Besides this year with Aladdin being rereleased I can scarcely find Aladdin or Jasmine merch. Jasmine, Ariel, and Snow White are my all time favorite princesses. I can only find merchandise all the time for Ariel and Snow White. Ariel is the easiest princess to find merchandise of. I only collected Frozen for about a year and I have more merchandise from the movie than I do of Tiana. I’ve been collecting Tiana merchandise for 3 years.. I have a Kristoff doll & Olaf plush not shown. Pocahontas is one of my favorite movies and I cannot find merchandise for her anywhere besides a few prints and postcards at Wonderground Gallery. Last year was the exception because of the designer line. I started collecting after the first designer line which is why I only have the Snow White journal which I got for a really good price (it was around $25 with shipping).

You cannot argue Jasmine, Mulan, Pocahontas, and Tiana fans will not buy merchandise. We do. I’m praying the few pieces from the Art of Jasmine collection I haven’t been able to get stay around until I can afford them. I am getting the Jasmine & Aladdin sketchbook ornament when it comes to the Disney Store closer to Christmas since I hate ordering them online as well. I’ll probably get the Tiana and Mulan ones as well. I don’t really like how Pocahontas looks so I will probably skip that one sadly. I’m missing 3 postcards from Wonderground Gallery of Mulan, Tiana, & Jasmine I’ll have to get. I started collecting art from Wonderground Gallery because they finally had new merchandise with Mulan and Pocahontas. Fans will and do buy merchandise for Jasmine, Mulan, Pocahontas, and Tiana. I would buy more if Disney actually made it.

I want more marketing and merchandise for Pocahontas, Jasmine, Mulan, and Tiana.

Let’s not pretend the lack of marketing is not one of the big reasons we never see any merchandise for Pocahontas, Jasmine, Mulan, and Tiana. Even with the rerelease of Aladdin this year, there has not been much marketing for the film even though its coming out next month. By this time last year I was already seeing commercials for Sleeping Beauty and two years ago the commercials for the Little Mermaid started in the summer. Aladdin is one of the highest grossing films in Disney history and you sure as fuck wouldn’t know that from the lack of merchandise and marketing. You would think with the Aladdin musical on broadway, they would try to market the shit out of the movie and show to get more people to see it & buy the merchandise. The musical is doing very well and is not going anywhere anytime soon. Most of the original cast signed contracts until next year. The musical is honestly doing almost as well as the Lion King, if not as well. People fucking love Aladdin and you would not know from the lack of Disney marketing and merchandise. If you ask Disney fans which movies they want more merchandise for its Aladdin and Princess and the Frog without fail.

Disney wouldn’t even have to try hard to sell shirts, mugs, journals, etc. to adults that have Jasmine or Tiana on them. People want them and will buy them. Guess what? Most limited edition merchandise Disney makes sits around for awhile and a lot of it goes on sale. That is no exception for merchandise for the princesses of color because its expensive as fuck. People are not going to want to buy the same classic doll every year when the new one is rereleased. They have not changed the look of Mulan, Jasmine, or Pocahontas in years. You cannot complain collectors aren’t buying the same identical doll every year when you change up how the white princesses look. I bought the Aurora classic doll twice because I liked her dress last year better. I bought Rapunzel this year because she finally looks movie accurate (or as close to it as Disney will make her). I’ll be buying the Tiana sketchbook ornament because she is in her blue dress and not identical to the previous years. If Disney would give us new merchandise and not the same thing every year, we would buy it. Also, if you made Mulan look movie accurate, I’d be all over that doll but she is not.

Mulan, Tiana, Jasmine, and Pocahontas are in the princess line. They have all the marketing in the world backing up that line. Their whole marketing plan in every little girl wants to be a princess. You have a somewhat (maybe kinda) diverse group of princesses if you actually marketed the princesses of color. Jasmine, Mulan, Pocahontas, and Tiana are all different from one another and the other princesses. They could easily market them if they really wanted to. In 1995 when Pocahontas was released, I was dressed from head to toe in Pocahontas merchandise, the same way little girls today are dressed head to toe in Frozen, Tangled, or Little Mermaid (still 26 years later) today. There is no fucking reason they cannot market these princesses to little girls the same way they do Elsa, Rapunzel, and Ariel. If little girls were actually exposed to Mulan, Pocahontas, and Jasmine, you could sell a shit load more merchandise. Little girls fucking love Tiana and there is only the same merchandise released year after year. You know how many different dolls of Jasmine, Belle, and Ariel were released in the 90s? At least one new one a year and I had them all. Girls will ask for new dolls for Christmas and birthdays if they aren’t the same thing from the year before. Disney is missing serious opportunities to make money because they don’t market Pocahontas, Jasmine, Mulan, and Tiana. Look, I’ll give Disney that Jasmine and Tiana are more popular than Mulan and Pocahontas. I’ll give them that the only people who really love Pocahontas and Mulan grew up in the 90s. I see little girls in Disney dresses up as Tiana and Jasmine A LOT when I am down there. Little Tiana’s are all around the park. You cannot be in Magic Kingdom and not see a bunch of little Tiana’s. Girls love her and adults love her. You sure as fuck wouldn’t know that based on how Disney markets her and their lack of merchandise. Same for Jasmine. I have seen a couple of little Pocahontas and Mulans walking around but not as many. Those two princesses have NOT been marketing to my generations kids. They sell merchandise on them based on nostalgia.

I know not just girls like the Disney princesses. However, Disney markets these characters towards girls which is why I focused on girls in my post. Also, a lot of the adults I see asking for new merchandise for Jasmine, Mulan, Pocahontas, and Jasmine are women. I do know men who collect merchandise of these characters as well but they tend to be in the minority.
