This is without a doubt my favourite photo from Wednesday night. It’s pure, unrestrained joy, plain and simple.
As amazing as he’s been, performance- and maturity- and resilience-wise this year, Marcus Stroman is just a kid. And there’s no photo that captures that so perfectly as him leaping into the arms of his surrogate ‘Papa’ Mark Buehrle after winning the game that clinched the AL East division title - easily the biggest start of Stroman’s career. This is a moment that’s going to stay with him forever, and an image that will stay with us for hopefully just as long.
I’ve looked at this photo close to three dozen times now, and I can honestly say it’s made me feel misty-eyed pretty much every time. The fact that Buehrle is likely retiring at the end of the season just makes it all the more emotional.
