al pennant

i don’t really talk about baseball a lot, but i grew up following the houston astros.

the last time the astros were in the world series, which happened to be the first time the astros were in the world series, it was 2005, and my grandpa was dying. we would go to the hospital and watch games with him. he lasted long enough for the ‘stros to lose, but he got to see his team finally make it to the WS for the first time.

astros just cinched the american league pennant, and are going back to the world series. i hope we make it all the way this time, but just knowing we’re gonna get to play even one game in the world series again is bringing up a lot of good, bittersweet nostalgia of hanging out with my grandpa. here’s to a good next series.

we earned it

So how does it feel to see Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins win back to back titles for the first time since Steve Yzerman and the Red Wings?

It makes me want to throw up a little bit, but then I remember in my lifetime the teams that I support have:

Red Wings - 6 Stanley Cup Finals Appearances, 4 Stanley Cup Wins

Tigers - 2 AL Pennants, 4 Division Titles, 2 World Series Appearances

Pistons - 3 NBA Championships, 6 Straight Conference Finals

Spartan Hockey - National Championship

Spartan Basketball - National Championship, 8 Big Ten Titles

Spartan Football - 3 Big Ten Titles, College Football Playoff Appearance

I’d say that’s pretty solid for my existence so far. Just need the Lions to give me something to be proud of in the next 70 years or so.

Also, some of the guys who have more cups than Crosby include: Kris Draper, Nick Lidstrom, Kirk Maltby, Darren McCarty, Tomas Holmstrom…Should I keep going?
