His third Oscar nomination came after his strong performance reprising the role of Michael Corleone in The Godfather II…. This was the movie that proved that Pacino was among the rare breed of actors who would leave their mark in American cinema history. (Reflecting on it thirty years later, Newsweek said Pacino “gave what is arguably cinema’s greatest portrait ever of the hardening of a heart.”)
