THE NEW OC16 MICROPHONE: TREMENDOUS VALUE FOR MONEY

As soon as their first microphone came out, I knew it would be something special, even spectacular. I’m talking about the the OC18. Click here for my review. If you’ve never heard of Austrian Audio, here’s a bit of history. Had it been up to mother company AKG, their Vienna home office…

Introduction:

The Secret Cinema is a discord server for movie obsessed insomniac weirdos (like me, @skinslip!) and we watch movies most Fridays, every Saturday and Sunday. The server is located in the Pacific time zone and is a primarily queer populated server (and I plan to keep it that way).

The Secret Cinema account is going to primarily be where I post about my physical media collection and other physical media related nonsense (after I finish uploading every blu-rays and DVD in the archive lol).

I have a complete list of all the unique titles (not a total number of releases) that are in the collection in this nifty Letterboxd list.

Listing Key:

#0000 - Every movie has a unique number, multiple releases of the same movie have the same number but with a alphabetical delineation (A, B, C, etc) [Example: 0000A, 0000B, etc)

Title (Date) [Aspect Ratios, Running times, Directors]

Label: the name of the boutique label who did the release

Format: 4K, Blu-ray, DVD, VHS, or LD.

Region: Region the title is playable in

Special Features: a list of the special features contained on the disc, if any

Notes: Special notes about the specific edition

Setup:

Sony BDP-S3700 Blu-ray/DVD combo (region hacked)

LG FHD 27-Inch IPS 27MP450-B

Scarlett 2i2 USB Audio Interface (to patch the audio into my computer, yes it is overkill. I bought it for something else and it gets used this way as a bonus!)

Mackie CR Series CR3 3-inch Creative Reference Multimedia Monitors

AKG Pro Audio K72 Headphones w/ Brainwavz replacement earpads

Collection:

The archive is sorted in alphabetical order. Numbers before A, media agnostic (VHS, LD, DVD, Blu-ray, 3D, 4K are all mixed).

Every title has a unique number to make it easier to find and to keep accurate count, items that are sold or traded shall have their numbers reclaimed and re-issued to the next purchased title.

I don't like to do a lot of double dipping these days because I have limited space.

I focus on boutique labels primarily, my favorites are Vinegar Syndrome, AGFA, Gold Ninja Video, Saturn's Core, Severin Films.

First title: Zombi Holocaust [Shriek Show DVD].

Current title count: 3,117 and counting

I'm curious, what mic do you use? Your sound quality is pretty good and clear

Avatar

If you’re looking for a great quality and are just starting out, I suggest the audio technica 2020 USB mic. Probably my favorite USB Mic in existence, everyone always thought it was XLR and complimented on how good it sounded as a USB.

What I currently use is an AKG Condenser Mic (XLR). You need an interface to use it, if you are unfamiliar with the terms “XLR” and “Interface” you may be better off with the USB to start.

But if you are still interested, the most simple interface I know if is called the “Scarlett Solo” and you can pair that with the AKG Condensor Mic for great quality!

Hope this helps!

About Fucking Time, Chris

So it's been ages since I actually wrote a post. I've been all about the red carpet snark and reblogs. Time to use my big-girl words.

But first, how is everybody? I truly hope this Easter Sunday finds you all happy and healthy and safe.

There will be orchid photos up next, because my beauties are showing off this spring.

The day job is chaos, but whose isn't these days, right?

Family life is.... don't ask. (Special thanks to my brother for keeping me sane as we deal with aging parents.)

Personal life... what's that? I'm in a relationship with my Roku and the 1,368 streaming subscriptions I have.

I've been writing, but my most recent story is a fight. It doesn't seem to want to let me write it. I mentioned on Twitter the other day that I should probably let it go. Maybe it's someone else's story to write.

I have a pile of unread self growth books on my bookshelf. So naturally I bought half a dozen more, as you do. I started Atomic Habits by James Clear and it is really good.

A special thanks to @duckandorpenguin for the headphones recommendation. The AKG Pro Audio K240s are fantastic, exactly the right weight for my ultra-sensitive noggin.

Micheal's had a sale on scrapbooking paper. So I bought a couple pads, and more embellishments. Have I made anything recently? No. But I read somewhere that buying craft supplies and using them are two separate hobbies and if that ain't the truth.

Time to make Pillsbury cinnamon rolls straight from the can like the basic bitch I am.

You kids have an awesome day and make sure you keep track of all those eggs you hide for the little ones. A hardboiled egg stuck behind the potted Ficus in the living room a week from now is quite the surprise. Trust me.

Current audio hardware

Heya @mixnotec!  This is technically a sideblog so I can’t reply properly (sorry!), but I can answer with my mic setup at least!  And hopefully this is helpful for anyone else looking into this.  (Specific equipment is bolded)

I'm using an AKG C214 mic combined with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface (which is necessary to provide the mic with power and connect to things, though you don’t need the 2i2 if you only have one mic).  It is unfortunately a bit on the expensive side (like $500-600 USD total), because the C214 is like an entry-level studio mic, but it’s a great investment for any long-term audio work.  The mic comes with both a shock mount and a windscreen, and I’m also using a boom stand and a pop filter with it.

I already owned the mic/interface for instrumental recording prior to mod work, and that’s honestly one of the few reasons why I felt comfortable hopping into recording voice for this so quickly.  A nice podcast mic will probably also do nicely (I started out recording/streaming on a Blue Yeti before upgrading to the AKG; Joseph Russell, creator of Lucien, recommends a Focusrite Scarlett solo pack in one of his videos which seems to have everything included.  Also I highly recommend watching his videos!).

I’m also using Reaper as the software for both recording/editing (It has an endless free trial which... I’m technically still using after 4 years... I should really pay for the license, sorry Reaper devs...), and Izotope RX 8 Elements, a plugin, that cleans up the voice files (removes background noise and mouth clicking, and basically my lifesaver).

Hope this helps!

Unveiling the Power of Dynamic Microphones: Your Complete Guide

Dynamic microphones are a ubiquitous and essential tool in the world of audio recording and live sound reinforcement. Known for their durability and versatility, these microphones are favored by musicians, broadcasters, and audio engineers alike. In this comprehensive guide, we'll delve into the world of dynamic microphones, exploring how they work, their applications, and the top models available today.

Understanding Dynamic Microphones:

1. How Dynamic Microphones Work:

dynamic microphone  operate on electromagnetic induction. When sound waves hit the microphone's diaphragm, it moves a coil of wire within a magnetic field, generating an electrical current that mirrors the sound wave.

2. Durability and Reliability:

   - Dynamic microphones are robust and can handle high sound pressure levels without distortion, making them ideal for stage performances and capturing loud sound sources.

3. No Need for External Power:

   - Unlike condenser microphones, dynamic microphones do not require external power sources like phantom power. They can be connected directly to a mixer or amplifier.

Applications of Dynamic Microphones:

1. Live Sound Reinforcement:

   - Dynamic microphones are the go-to choice for miking live musical performances, including vocals, drums, and guitar amplifiers, due to their ruggedness and resistance to feedback.

2. Studio Recording:

   - While condenser microphones are common in studios, dynamic microphones find use in recording instruments like electric guitars, snare drums, and bass amplifiers, providing a punchy sound.

3. Broadcasting and Podcasting:

   - Many radio hosts and podcasters rely on dynamic microphones for their durability and ability to reject ambient noise.

4. Instrumental and Vocal Amplification:

   - Dynamic mics are often used to amplify musical instruments, such as harmonicas, brass instruments, and percussion.

Top Dynamic Microphones on the Market:

1. Shure SM58:

   - Renowned for its durability and clear vocal reproduction, the Shure SM58 is a staple on stages worldwide.

2. Sennheiser MD 421 II:

   - This microphone is prized for its versatility, excelling at capturing vocals, drums, and guitar amps.

3. Electro-Voice RE20:

   - The RE20 is a broadcast standard, known for its warm and smooth sound quality.

4. AKG D112:

   - A favorite for kick drum miking, the AKG D112 provides punchy low-end response.

Tips for Using Dynamic Microphones:

1. Close-Miking Technique:

   - Keep the microphone close to the sound source for better isolation and reduced ambient noise pickup.

2. Windscreen and Pop Filter:

   - Attach a windscreen or pop filter to minimize plosive sounds and protect the microphone from moisture.

3. Proper Handling:

   - Dynamic microphones are rugged, but gentle handling ensures longevity. Avoid dropping or subjecting them to extreme conditions.

Conclusion:

Dynamic microphones are an integral part of the audio industry, offering reliability and versatility in a variety of applications. Whether you're performing on stage, recording in the studio, or broadcasting your voice to the world, a quality dynamic microphone is an essential tool for capturing sound accurately and effectively. With an array of options available, you can find the perfect dynamic microphone to suit your needs and elevate your audio endeavors.

The Cadillac V-series represents the pinnacle of performance for the luxury brand. The latest additions - the CT5-V and CT4-V Blackwings - are the highest performing Cadillac models ever made. This article will compare these ultimate track-capable sedans. Brief Background on Cadillac's V-Series and Blackwing Models The V-series debuted in 2004 with the CTS-V, using a Corvette-derived 400-hp V8. Additional V-series models followed, with increasingly powerful engines and track capabilities. The Blackwing moniker debuted on the ATS-V and CTS-V models, signifying track-focused capabilities like carbon fiber wheels and suspension upgrades. The CT5-V and CT4-V Blackwings represent the current peak of V-series performance, bringing race-level power and aerodynamics to the street. CT5-V Blackwing Overview As the larger sedan, the CT5-V Blackwing offers greater power and performance. Engine, Transmission, and Power Specs The CT5-V Blackwing uses a hand-built 6.2L supercharged V8 making 668 hp and 659 lb-ft torque. The engine revs to 6500 rpm and includes tech like an electronic limited-slip differential and dry sump lubrication. Power routes through a 6-speed manual transmission to the rear or available all-wheel-drive system. Performance Capabilities With the V8 and available carbon ceramic brakes, the CT5-V Blackwing delivers incredible performance: 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds Quarter mile in 11.7 seconds at 123 mph Top speed of 208 mph Braking 60-0 mph in 97 feet Exterior Styling and Aerodynamic Enhancements The CT5-V Blackwing has an aggressive stance, with design cues like a unique grill, hood vent, and rear spoiler. Exposed carbon fiber and available carbon ceramic brakes signal the car's track intents. Extensive aerodynamic tweaks such as an adjustable rear spoiler and underbody panels enable stability at high speeds. Interior Features and Technology Inside the sharply tailored cabin are sport seats, carbon fiber trim, and a performance data recorder. A 15-inch touchscreen offers tech like navigation, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a premium AKG sound system. Pricing The 2023 CT5-V Blackwing starts at $89,990 MSRP, which represents a tremendous performance value. The car offers supercar power and technology at a fraction of the price. CT4-V Blackwing Overview As the smaller sedan, the CT4-V Blackwing balances power and agility. Engine, Transmission, and Performance Specs Motivation comes from a 3.6L twin-turbo V6 producing 472 hp and 445 lb-ft torque. It uses a 7-speed manual transmission powering the rear or available AWD. Performance stats include: 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds Quarter mile in 12.1 seconds at 115 mph Top speed 189 mph Braking 60-0 mph in 97 feet Exterior Design and Aerodynamic Features Like its big brother, the CT4-V Blackwing has an aggressive stance with functional aero tweaks like a rear spoiler, front splitter, and rear diffuser. These provide stability during high-speed maneuvers. Cabin Space, Seats, and Technology The interior offers front sport seats and available carbon fiber accents. A 10-inch touchscreen provides Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, navigation and a 13-speaker Bose audio system. Base MSRP The 2023 CT4-V Blackwing starts at $61,990 - an attainable price point considering the incredible performance offered. Driving Experience Comparison Both Blackwings deliver incredible power and control for the street or track, but they have some key differences. Power Delivery and Sound The CT5's V8 produces a thunderous exhaust note and tremendous thrust throughout the rev range. The CT4's twin-turbo V6 offers immediate low-end torque with a distinctive turbo whistle. Steering, Handling and Ride Quality With a smaller footprint, the CT4 steers with sharp precision. The CT5 exhibits superior stability at higher speeds thanks to its larger mass. Magnetic ride control ensures compliance over harsh bumps in both models.

Braking Performance The available carbon ceramic brakes provide phenomenal stopping power in both sedans, although the CT5's greater weight requires larger front rotors (16.5" vs 15.7"). Fun Factor on Windy Roads and Track Both cars are an absolute blast to push hard on back roads or track. The CT4 offers nimble handling for technical sections, while the CT5 builds speed effortlessly on long straights. Practicality Comparison Beyond performance specs, daily livability differs between the two sedans: Passenger and Cargo Room The CT5 clearly has more interior room to accommodate adults or cargo. Rear legroom is abundant, and the trunk swallows 11.9 cu-ft of luggage. The CT4 is tighter with 7.7 cu-ft of cargo room. Features and Amenities Both cars offer impressive tech and luxury features like massaging seats, Bose audio, and wireless phone charging. The CT5 adds options like rear seat infotainment screens. Daily Drivability Despite high performance, both sedans retain decent ride quality and refinement for daily commutes. The CT4 will be easier to maneuver through tight urban areas. Verdict In summary, which Blackwing model is best comes down to buyer priorities: The CT4-V Blackwing will suit driving enthusiasts wanting a nimble sport sedan with accessible performance. The CT5-V Blackwing appeases those seeking maximum power and track capabilities in a usable package. Either way, both represent the pinnacle of Cadillac V-series performance - elevating world-class luxury, technology and driving engagement to new heights. FAQs Which Blackwing model has more power? The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing has more power than the CT6-V. The CT5-V Blackwing uses an upgraded and hand-assembled 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine rated at 668 horsepower (498 kW) and 659 lb-ft of torque (893 Nm). What is the main difference in engines? The main difference in engines between the CT5-V Blackwing and the CT6-V is that the CT5-V Blackwing uses an upgraded and hand-assembled 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine, while the CT6-V uses a 4.2L twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. How much faster is the CT5-V Blackwing to 60 mph? The CT5-V Blackwing is capable of a 0-60 mph run of 3.4 seconds with the automatic transmission and 3.6 seconds with the six-speed manual transmission. Which one is more agile around corners? There is no clear answer to this question as it depends on various factors such as driving conditions, driver skill, and personal preference. However, according to a review by Car and Driver, the CT5-V Blackwing has a well-tuned chassis and suspension that make it agile and responsive around corners. What is the base price difference between the two? The base price for the CT5-V Blackwing starts at $84,990, while the exact base price for the CT6-V is not mentioned in the search results. However, it is mentioned that the CT6-V is more expensive than the CT5-V Blackwing. #Wiack #Car #CarInsurance #CarRental #CarPrice #AutoLoans
