Who’s down for #MeatlessMonday??? You’d be surprised how going meatless as simple as once/week can be so beneficial not only to you, but also to the environment. Ok some people can’t see past themselves, so 1 day without the meat can help reduce your risk of cancer, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and the list goes on. For those who are somewhat aware of their connection to the environment will be happy to know that 1 meatless day helps to minimize water usage by the tons. Get this, it takes up to 2500 gallons of water to go into 1 lb of beef! 2500 gallons of water for livestock to get 1 lb of beef vs. tofu (which I don’t eat anyways, but for comparison purposes) 220 gallons per lb. WOWEE!! I won’t get into the other enviro-benefits because I want this one to digest. As a holistic health coach, I have so many conversations where people completely ignore/overlook digestive health. One thing that my nutritional instructor shared with me that has truly stuck is the general concept of “we are what we eat” which she took a step further to “we are what we digest”. So many of our digestive systems are out of balance and a huge percentage of the nutrients we eat are NOT being absorbed by the body. When we begin a journey into wellness, a focal point has to be digestion, or rather your starting point should be the digestive system. It’s where the process of receiving nutrients from food begins. How healthy is it? Do you experience bloating, belching or flatulence after meals? Do you experience constipation, indigestion, heartburn, diarrhea, fullness or “nigeritis”? These are all signs of dysbiosis. Other symptoms include weak finger nails, greasy stools, various skin irritations, etc. Having a healthy digestive improves your ability to absorb the vitamins, minerals, etc the body needs as well as increases your ability to combat any imbalances. Whole grains (NOT mistaken for whole wheat), legumes, beans, veggies (green ones esp.), fruits (preferably lower sugar content) and water are great for the digestive system! Of course in combination with a low/no processed food, healthy oils, low sugar, chemical and alcohol diet. Stress and exercise can also play a role in your digestive health. As do antibiotics and other meds. I always encourage people to take digestive health very seriously. Do the research and tune in to your body. Rei Ki is the newest addition to my journey of wellness & spirituality. This past weekend, my experience was like no other on so many levels. We hold so much power within us, and so many times we leave this earth never uncovering the depths of who we are. #Reiki can be described as the Universal Life Force that exists within us all. It can be used to not only bring healing to ourselves, but to others as well. I have successfully completed my Shoden Practitioner Certification and I am looking forward in a few weeks to advancing to the next level. In the mean time, I have been sanctioned to share the gift of Reiki with those willing to receive.
