December Book Haul!
Hello, friends! It has been a while since I was able to get on here without other chores/errands getting in the way. In the meantime, I went home, had a lovely holiday season, then came back and worked a ton. I also had a birthday last weekend, so that was fun! And I bought more books, naturally :D
An Assembly Such as This by Pamela Aidan: Pride and Prejudice trilogy from Darcy’s perspective. Gotta say, I am 1 chapter in and I ADORE it already. Aidan managed to capture the spirit of Austen’s writing and characters while maintaining her own idea of what it is Darcy does when he is not with Elizabeth.
Heartless and Silent Melody by Mary Balogh: Mary Balogh is one of those authors I will automatically buy from. These two are linked, with each heroine being related to each other (I think they are sisters), and are fan favorites!
The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After and Brighter Than the Sun by Julia Quinn: I need these to round out my collection of Quinn’s Lyndon sisters series and her Bridgerton series.
Somewhere I’ll Find You by Lisa Kleypas: This one sounded interesting! A married couple who have never set eyes on each other seeking divorce start to fall in love. AND the heroine is an actress!
Gentlemen Prefer Curves by Sugar Jamison: Another married couple, this one estranged for 5 years after (I presume) a misunderstanding. This is the second book in Jamison’s Perfect Fit series. There is a 5 year old girl named Ruby and she is adorable!
The Seduction of the Crimson Rose and The Orchid Affair by Lauren Willig: I have been DYING to get my hands on these two books, numbers 4 and 8 in her Pink Carnation series. I now own the complete set, and I finally finished Orchid Affair! She is every bit as hilarious and deliciously witty as I remember her to be, and it makes me happy.
Finding Fraser by KC Dyer: On the cusp of turning 30, a woman who loves the Outlander series goes to Scotland for her own adventure. I bought this for each person in my friend group, and we are reading it for our book club!
Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho: I am a sucker for fantasy novels, so I am excited about this one! Victorian Britain, and a black man is the new Sorcerer Royal *gasp* who finds a woman who might be a more powerful spellcaster than any man in history *double gasp*. On top of being written by a person of color, Courtney Milan has lent her support for this book and I trust her judgement.
Lafayette in the Somewhat United States by Sarah Vowell: I originally purchased this book for my dad, then a friend overheard me say I was going to read it before I gave it to him and she gave it to me for Christmas! History book about one of my favorite historical figures, the Marquis de Lafayette by a hilarious writer and his involvement in the American Revolution.
Hamilton: The Revolution by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jeremy McCarter: A gift from my equally Hamilton-obsessed cousin, the Hamiltome features not only the libretto from the musical but essays about New York during the revolution, Hamilton’s life, politics, you name it. AND pretty pictures of the show!
Winston Brothers series by Penny Reid: This series made me laugh outloud! 6 brothers in Tennessee, talented and lovable in their own individual ways, and all bearded. I especially loved Cletus’s book, Beard Science.
That is it for now, friends! I got a giftcard from a friend to a local bookstore that I will definitely use sometime in the near future, so I will hopefully have more! Although, where I am to put any of my books is a good question….
