Olympics 2016 News Roundup #2

Wow, so many things happened since the last time I did one of these.

First, the not-so-fun stuff. No medals from rowing or archery, but kudos to those guys anyway! Especially since this was the first Olympic since 2004 where Indonesia has rowers competing. That, and Riau Ega Agatha will always be the guy who beat the world’s #1 in archery.

All eyes are on badminton now, and things are heating up. As far as I know, the singles players are out, but the doubles are showing some great promise (aside from Ahsan/Setiawan, who are out, which is a bummer). Most notably, Greysia Polii/Nitya Maheswari are group C champions and advancing to the quarterfinals! Hopefully I’ll get to see that match since I’m now done with my internship and have a week before school starts. I watched Praveen/Debby’s match against the Z/Z Chinese pair today. It was pretty clear that China was going to win, but at least the Indonesian pair is still going to compete in the quarterfinals, as is Tontowi/Liliyana. Very, very excited to see how Indonesia will fare in the mixed doubles category.
