[Passed to Tina by a classmate, who says, “This is a special delivery from some guy who says he’s a Palestine? I wasn’t listening.” The student returns to his seat. It is a card from Tina's Pal-entine, Blaine Devon Anderson.]
I have never had a Pal-entine before, although I was the one who suggested that we do it. You, like so many times prior to our friendship, have supported me through thick and thin.
Never think that you are letting me down if at times things get too hard. You are no burden of mine, Tina Cohen-Chang. You’re lovely and always striving to be the best you can be.
Apologize not for being yourself, for loving yourself first, for standing up for what you believe in. You are the one who’s been able to make me come to many terms about the world and myself.
Choices that I’ve made, some I’ve regretted. But our friendship is truly one of the best things that could have happened to me. If it moves me, inspires me, and makes me happy, that choice is you.
Opening up to someone isn’t… encouraged, I’d say, in bloodline circles, in life in general. But I’m glad that I found someone to share core wounds with, to dress each other in bandages of understanding, in salves of healing words and mutual empathy. Your hurts are my hurts, and I always want to help you in any way I can. I know you feel the same, and I’m so grateful.
Hello. That’s what I want to be able to say to you every day. I want to say “hello” to you every day for the rest of my life, to see you every day for the rest of my life. If the sun won’t shine, I’ve got you, Tee.
Every moment when I was younger, I wished to have a friendship as deep as the tides, as instant as light. I had to wait twenty-one years for a chance. This chance I cherish.
Care for a trip down memory lane?
Hearing you talk about the things you loved the first time I met you, I knew that we had the same joy for life. Thank you for all you’ve done, shared, and cried with me.
An everlasting friendship.
Nice-sounding, isn’t it? ;)
Grand things await us. I can just feel it. I love you, Tee.
Sincerely Your Pal-entine,
Blaine Devon Anderson.
[In the middle of her CPSC 110, Tina has not expected anything to come from her. Normally some notes that she missed (which was quite a lot thanks to recent events) but looking at the note that was from Blaine. Ignoring her other fellow techies and teacher she read the note and found herself instantly crying. Curse you Blaine Anderson, for having the power to make her cry, when she thought all her tears dry up.
How was she so aetherblessed to have him as a best friend? ]
